- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Benn and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with I R Radio. Welcome to an all new episode
- 0:08Speaker 1: of the Almost Famous Podcast. First off, big thanks to
- 0:12Speaker 1: our friends at best Egg for sponsoring this special financial episode.
- 0:17Speaker 1: One of the biggest financial pain points I see people
- 0:20Speaker 1: facing today is the high interest debt. It's a trap
- 0:24Speaker 1: that makes it nearly impossible to escape. Most of us
- 0:28Speaker 1: have experienced some sort of debt. Uh if it's loans,
- 0:33Speaker 1: a car payment. Uh, sometimes it's even a house payment.
- 0:36Speaker 1: That's kind of haunting us and sitting over us. I
- 0:39Speaker 1: have a buddy, uh, one of my best friends in
- 0:41Speaker 1: the world, who has been struggling with debt ever since college.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And it was credit card debt. It was compounding on
- 0:49Speaker 1: itself every month. He could not get in front of it. Uh,
- 0:53Speaker 1: he couldn't sleep, he was anxious. I was anxious for him.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We kind of wrote that together. Debt is a really,
- 1:03Speaker 1: really unfortunate thing that happens in life, sometimes due to
- 1:07Speaker 1: our own choices, a lot of times just due to
- 1:08Speaker 1: what life brings about. Inflation right now is making debt
- 1:12Speaker 1: even worse. Uh. And as I said before, it can
- 1:15Speaker 1: cause physical issues like loss of sleep, uh stress. Uh.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You can always be thinking about how you're gonna make
- 1:21Speaker 1: your next payments. Uh. It's impossible to save also while
- 1:26Speaker 1: you are paying off this debt, and then it compounds
- 1:29Speaker 1: over and over month over month, uh, and it kind
- 1:33Speaker 1: of sits like a cloud over the top of you.
- 1:35Speaker 1: When you're dealing with high interest debt, it's important to
- 1:38Speaker 1: turn the bus around quickly. Consolidating high interest debt into
- 1:43Speaker 1: one payment is the smart way to get under control.
- 1:46Speaker 1: The guys I think do it better than anyone else
- 1:49Speaker 1: is our friends at best Egg. This is what best
- 1:52Speaker 1: egg can offer you. If you're somebody sitting out there
- 1:55Speaker 1: with debt right now best egg. Working with best Egg,
- 1:58Speaker 1: the goal is to end up with one monthly payment
- 2:01Speaker 1: that's way lower than all the other bills combine, so
- 2:04Speaker 1: you kind of wrap it off together. It's super easy
- 2:07Speaker 1: to get onto best egg. It's an online app. You
- 2:10Speaker 1: can just do it a couple of minutes. Loans are
- 2:13Speaker 1: funded fast. You're not waiting weeks upon weeks to see
- 2:16Speaker 1: if you've got accepted for this loan. Sometimes it's like
- 2:19Speaker 1: even a one day approval. So you wrap all this up.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You get a lower interest rate, which makes it easier
- 2:25Speaker 1: to pay off you can pay it off in one
- 2:27Speaker 1: monthly payments. You're not trying to find all the places
- 2:30Speaker 1: that you owe money to. You can just do it
- 2:32Speaker 1: all at once. And with best eggs Financial Health tools,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you can monitor your credit score and use the credit
- 2:39Speaker 1: simulator tools to help make informed decisions. For example, what
- 2:43Speaker 1: would happen if I took out an auto loan payment.
- 2:46Speaker 1: It's a good question question a lot of us have
- 2:48Speaker 1: to ask. These are super helpful tools, But until you
- 2:51Speaker 1: pay down your debt, your bills and obligations with crazy
- 2:54Speaker 1: high interest rates, it's hard to accomplish your money goals.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I tell everyone, don't wait to fix the problems. The
- 3:00Speaker 1: longer you wait, the harder it is to fix. That's
- 3:04Speaker 1: why I'm a big fan of Best Egg, huge fan
- 3:08Speaker 1: of paying all that debt down, that high interest stuff

- 3:36Speaker 1: introduce my friend somebody that knows a ton about finance
- 3:40Speaker 1: and life in general, Jason Tardik. So good to be here, Ben,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and it's good to be back. It's good to see you, man. Now,
- 3:47Speaker 1: this is a very special episode. Thank you too, best Egg.
- 3:50Speaker 1: We've asked you to join us today, Jason, UH to
- 3:53Speaker 1: talk a lot about personal finance, but also based on
- 3:57Speaker 1: your experience and interviews you've done, uh kind of some
- 4:01Speaker 1: of the uh financial situations and how people make money
- 4:05Speaker 1: from the show. Are you cool with that? Um? I
- 4:07Speaker 1: love it. Ben. One thing when you and I always
- 4:09Speaker 1: get together, we end up talking about money or business.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So this is just gonna be a nice little rerun.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm excited. Let's do it. Let's do it. Okay, Hey, Jason,
- 4:17Speaker 1: For anybody out there wondering maybe they didn't listen to
- 4:20Speaker 1: uh the almost famous episode that you co hosted with me,
- 4:24Speaker 1: why uh, why did we here feel like you were
- 4:28Speaker 1: the perfect guest for this specific episode. What's your background?
- 4:33Speaker 1: What projects have you done that have kind of set
- 4:35Speaker 1: you up for this? Just run through the list of
- 4:38Speaker 1: you don't mind for sure? Yeah, I think one of
- 4:40Speaker 1: the big things if you're talking finance or careers, and
- 4:42Speaker 1: you're bringing any form of education to the public, you
- 4:46Speaker 1: better have some type of credibility. So a little bit
- 4:48Speaker 1: about me. I have my undergrad and business administration. I
- 4:51Speaker 1: got my m b a. And like it's like a
- 4:52Speaker 1: top fifty school simon business school and finance and accounting.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And then I was a banker for ten years, so
- 4:59Speaker 1: I worked to see if pos of companies that earned
- 5:01Speaker 1: over a hundred million dollars and I lent money to them.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And since then, I've been able to build a Restart
- 5:06Speaker 1: consulting platform where we do education for individuals on personal finance,
- 5:11Speaker 1: career management, have a podcast Trading Secrets, which is topping
- 5:15Speaker 1: business and careers, have a book called The Restart Roadmap,
- 5:18Speaker 1: Rewire and Reset your career. And I also do UM
- 5:21Speaker 1: lending for real estate projects, and I do small business
- 5:25Speaker 1: UH startup investing to UM kind of like the seed
- 5:28Speaker 1: stage and venture side. So from early business to exits
- 5:32Speaker 1: to lending UH to having and running my own businesses,
- 5:35Speaker 1: which about five at this point. UM. I've kind of
- 5:38Speaker 1: seen the life cycle and been part of it and
- 5:40Speaker 1: that's what's kind of led me to doing what I'm
- 5:42Speaker 1: doing now. You know, it's I've shared this story on
- 5:45Speaker 1: air before, but we get a lot of people, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: this is in a younger, more judgmental, more cynical season
- 5:54Speaker 1: of my life. UM, I'd like to think I've done
- 5:57Speaker 1: some work with myself. Uh. But uh, I met you
- 6:02Speaker 1: for the first time in a gym. I forget exactly
- 6:05Speaker 1: where we were, but you were working out and I
- 6:07Speaker 1: stepped into workout. You were pumping weight and I was stretching,
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think, and you had just gotten off of the
- 6:15Speaker 1: Bachelor season, and I remember just like you know, I
- 6:20Speaker 1: saw your job title on this show and I had
- 6:23Speaker 1: heard you speak about it on this show a little bit.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But a lot of people here blow smoke, you know
- 6:28Speaker 1: when they're on national television, but what they do for
- 6:30Speaker 1: a living. So I just started asking you some questions
- 6:32Speaker 1: and right away I realized you're legit, like you know
- 6:35Speaker 1: what you're talking about. UM. And it really is uh
- 6:40Speaker 1: fun for me for a couple of reasons. One, I
- 6:42Speaker 1: enjoy listening um and reading your stuff like I enjoy
- 6:46Speaker 1: learning from you. Um. But then it's also just cool
- 6:50Speaker 1: to see you use this platform and turn it into
- 6:51Speaker 1: something that yes has a picture of what you're doing before,
- 6:55Speaker 1: but really now reaches a whole new audience. It's been that,
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's been a ton of on It's interesting that you
- 7:01Speaker 1: said that, though the whole idea of like, all right,
- 7:04Speaker 1: is this uh a smoke blower? Or does like he
- 7:07Speaker 1: or she actually know what they're talking about? And it's
- 7:09Speaker 1: something I battle with. I battle with like on a
- 7:11Speaker 1: day to day basis. So this platform gives me a
- 7:14Speaker 1: lot of access, but the access does not mean credibility
- 7:17Speaker 1: because you have a you're from the Bachelor, and so
- 7:19Speaker 1: I'll be like, I just had Jason Oppenheim from Selling
- 7:22Speaker 1: Sunset on the podcast, literally, like I don't think you
- 7:25Speaker 1: knew it, like his press probably a team probably prepped them,
- 7:28Speaker 1: like as guy from The Batcheler, he's got this business podcast.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So he gets on and I haven't even told this yet,
- 7:33Speaker 1: but he goes how much this is how he starts
- 7:35Speaker 1: the conversation, how much time you got? How much time
- 7:37Speaker 1: is this gonna be? I said, an hour or forty
- 7:39Speaker 1: five minutes is what we have booked. I can't do that.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I have ten minutes. So well, I can't do an
- 7:43Speaker 1: interview in ten minutes if we're gonna have a credible
- 7:46Speaker 1: discussion regarding residential real estate, and the outlook and everything
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's done for your career and selling Sunset And he's like,
- 7:52Speaker 1: give me a minute, hits mute call, someone comes back Alight,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I got twenty minutes. We ended up talking for and then,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but early, like in a conversation like that or with
- 8:04Speaker 1: like a Jim Kramer with some of these you know,
- 8:06Speaker 1: damon John, Like instantly building credibility with understanding the industry
- 8:12Speaker 1: and what you're saying and how you're saying it is
- 8:14Speaker 1: so important, especially when you got the Batchelor title or
- 8:18Speaker 1: like the Bachelor franchise stigma next your name. It works
- 8:22Speaker 1: for the good, it will also works for the bat Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you're on uphill battle. Jim Kramer is on my TV
- 8:26Speaker 1: right here by my computer by the way, right now,
- 8:29Speaker 1: breaking down on mad money, everything plunging in the stock market.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Well yeah, they we Uh it's a great segue then, uh, Jason,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you spent a lot of your life now talking about finance,
- 8:41Speaker 1: talking about money, talking about how people personally UM can
- 8:46Speaker 1: build wealth and what smart ways um they can operate
- 8:51Speaker 1: in life to take the next best step. Why, though,
- 8:54Speaker 1: is money such an uncomfortable subject for people to talk about?
- 8:58Speaker 1: I mean, I I think we're just like this what
- 9:01Speaker 1: I call is the blueprint, Like this blueprint that we
- 9:03Speaker 1: live in conditions us to believe certain things and abide
- 9:07Speaker 1: by them. And what I've found with this blueprint is
- 9:09Speaker 1: it doesn't necessarily work. Like if you look at everything
- 9:12Speaker 1: happening today, whether it's in the market or it is
- 9:16Speaker 1: just like emotional happiness, you look at like so many
- 9:20Speaker 1: levels of what could be success, like the United States
- 9:23Speaker 1: total debt for per household UH income growth, the amount
- 9:28Speaker 1: of people that actually negotiate for themselves in the career,
- 9:30Speaker 1: like all these statistics that you would think drive success
- 9:33Speaker 1: aren't showcasing that. And so I think one of the
- 9:36Speaker 1: things that we abide by in this blueprint system is
- 9:39Speaker 1: don't talk about money. It's politically incorrect, it's impolite, it's unethical.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And I remember, like when I started my career, I've
- 9:47Speaker 1: always just been curious about money my whole life. When
- 9:49Speaker 1: I was a kid, I was always curious, and so
- 9:51Speaker 1: I would talk to people like so, like what would
- 9:52Speaker 1: you get paid for that? And we'd be like, don't
- 9:55Speaker 1: tell anyone, like sign in blood, don't tell anyone, and
- 9:58Speaker 1: like why why in alien? If we did, we could
- 10:01Speaker 1: get written up, and so I think we've been conditioned
- 10:03Speaker 1: to do so. But my whole theory on the total
- 10:06Speaker 1: topic is the more we talk about it, the more
- 10:09Speaker 1: information we get. The more information we get we can
- 10:12Speaker 1: leverage to help navigate our careers and our financial independence.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And so I think talk about money share what you make,
- 10:20Speaker 1: your wins and your losses. And that's something I stick
- 10:23Speaker 1: by and try and like really really pressed down. And
- 10:26Speaker 1: anyone I talked to you know, ensiteras thing I talk
- 10:29Speaker 1: about my personally. I feel like I'm more comfortable talking
- 10:32Speaker 1: about my losses than i am my successes. I remember
- 10:35Speaker 1: in Memphis when we were together, I was going through
- 10:37Speaker 1: a really hard season with one of the companies that
- 10:39Speaker 1: I operate, and I was talking to you about it. Hey,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I need some insight, like this is what's going on,
- 10:44Speaker 1: this is where we're struggling. Um is that common? Like
- 10:48Speaker 1: our people more. But I don't know if anybody in
- 10:51Speaker 1: the world other than maybe my wife, and I don't
- 10:54Speaker 1: know she would know, um fully like how much I
- 10:57Speaker 1: make doing anything in my in my career here, why
- 11:02Speaker 1: is it that we're so like, why is it that
- 11:04Speaker 1: we're so held off? Or like? Is it rude to
- 11:08Speaker 1: tell somebody, Uh, isn't there to ask somebody like what's
- 11:11Speaker 1: going on here? Well, first of all, I commend you
- 11:13Speaker 1: for talking about your losses, and you're right. I mean
- 11:16Speaker 1: you opened up that you're vulnerable. Vulnerability and that moment
- 11:19Speaker 1: creates connection and like wanting to help and talk. No
- 11:22Speaker 1: one does that. And if you're talking or listening or
- 11:25Speaker 1: are being inspired by someone who only talks about their wins, like,
- 11:28Speaker 1: look further and look for someone else, because everything every
- 11:31Speaker 1: win you see out there, there's a tons of losses
- 11:33Speaker 1: that match, especially like these day traders and stuff. When
- 11:36Speaker 1: you get the guys and girls that are only showing
- 11:38Speaker 1: their wins and losses. Run up to your point, though,
- 11:42Speaker 1: shame on you, because we had a podcast me you
- 11:44Speaker 1: and Jessica and you guys said you're going to go
- 11:46Speaker 1: to the go back to the chalkboard and talk about
- 11:48Speaker 1: what you make and how you make it. I think
- 11:50Speaker 1: we don't because I think we believe that our entire
- 11:54Speaker 1: worth as an individual is based on what our financial
- 11:58Speaker 1: situation is. You could be the nicest human, you could
- 12:01Speaker 1: give back, you could be just a pure soul, but
- 12:04Speaker 1: you're worth is instantly downgraded if you're not at a
- 12:08Speaker 1: higher earnings level is the perception that I think society has,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and that is the ship that's got to end. Like
- 12:15Speaker 1: the people that are leveraging the fact that they make
- 12:18Speaker 1: more money so they are more powerful, or in a
- 12:20Speaker 1: relationship that they are the earner, therefore the value of
- 12:23Speaker 1: their partner brings the table is insignificant. That's the bullshit
- 12:28Speaker 1: that creates the divide, and the divide is what keeps
- 12:31Speaker 1: us just so deterred from actually accomplishing the things in
- 12:35Speaker 1: life that we want to accomplish in a healthy space
- 12:37Speaker 1: to do so. So then is it rude Jason for
- 12:41Speaker 1: me too, in the right relationship ask somebody how much
- 12:46Speaker 1: money they make, I personally don't think it is. But
- 12:51Speaker 1: I think, like everything, there has to be a healthy context, right.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I think there are a lot of unhealthy reason that
- 13:00Speaker 1: someone may say how much do you make? That I
- 13:03Speaker 1: don't approve of, but providing healthy context to say, hey,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I am trying to be on the same page as you,
- 13:10Speaker 1: so that you and I are on the same team
- 13:12Speaker 1: and we're creating a life that makes sense within our
- 13:15Speaker 1: means and that we can pass on to our family
- 13:19Speaker 1: and live healthy in a transparent manner. Can we sit
- 13:22Speaker 1: down and talk about finances, Can we talk about where
- 13:26Speaker 1: we stand with one another and how we can both
- 13:28Speaker 1: contribute not only financially but in other ways to like
- 13:31Speaker 1: make the healthiest team. So I think the problem is
- 13:34Speaker 1: so many people do it the wrong way, and we
- 13:36Speaker 1: see it on social media all the time, the flexes
- 13:39Speaker 1: with like you know, you see some of these guys
- 13:40Speaker 1: the flexes or girls with the Lamborghinis or with the
- 13:42Speaker 1: big cars or you know, look what I just got.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Like it's such a braggadocious thing to probably make up
- 13:50Speaker 1: for material material insecurity, and that is not what I'm
- 13:53Speaker 1: talking about. You know. I feel like there is a
- 13:58Speaker 1: especially within like the middle class. UM, there's a lack
- 14:02Speaker 1: of access and a lack of a platform for people
- 14:05Speaker 1: to We can name a couple um places and organizations
- 14:09Speaker 1: that are really trying to help coach uh personal finance
- 14:12Speaker 1: in those realms. But if somebody's out there listening. We
- 14:14Speaker 1: have a very young demographic of listeners, UM, and they're
- 14:18Speaker 1: just getting started here. Uh, they don't have a lot
- 14:22Speaker 1: of coaching personally. What kind of advice do you like
- 14:24Speaker 1: to give somebody right away? Right away? Is number one? Rule?
- 14:28Speaker 1: Number one? Do not have rolling credit card debt period,
- 14:33Speaker 1: find a way to pay that off in full, and
- 14:35Speaker 1: put a budget in place so that you are managing
- 14:38Speaker 1: it your spend so you don't have rolling credit card debt.
- 14:41Speaker 1: If you do, you will be buried. You are absolutely
- 14:45Speaker 1: killing yourself if you have rolling credit card debt. That's
- 14:48Speaker 1: that's number one. The second thing I'm gonna say right
- 14:51Speaker 1: now eight point six percent inflation. Fuel oil is up
- 14:56Speaker 1: over a hundred percent year over Your groceries are up
- 14:58Speaker 1: twelve percent, entre g is up thirty five. If you
- 15:02Speaker 1: are not budgeting what you are spending, you are going
- 15:05Speaker 1: to be in deep. You have to know what you're
- 15:09Speaker 1: spending money on because the cost of everything is increased significantly.
- 15:12Speaker 1: If you didn't do it a year ago, you could
- 15:14Speaker 1: be okay. You don't do it now, you can be
- 15:16Speaker 1: in some serious trouble. You gotta do it. And I'm
- 15:18Speaker 1: big on, like Ben, not getting rid of everything. Pick
- 15:21Speaker 1: and choose and prioritize what puts a smile on your
- 15:24Speaker 1: face and what makes you happy, and the things that
- 15:26Speaker 1: aren't the must have, the things that can go really
- 15:29Speaker 1: rethink that and get them, get them out. The last
- 15:32Speaker 1: thing I would say is debt management. Like I talked
- 15:35Speaker 1: about credit card debt, but everyone's so focused on like
- 15:37Speaker 1: how do I get rich quick? How do I do this, this,
- 15:39Speaker 1: and that. You really have to focus on all your debt,
- 15:42Speaker 1: understand the interest you're paying, and how you're managing your debt,
- 15:45Speaker 1: because especially early on, that's what buries people from actually
- 15:50Speaker 1: creating long term wealth. It's uh, it's interesting. So you know,
- 15:55Speaker 1: you mentioned a few things that you know. I don't
- 15:56Speaker 1: think everybody listening to this wants to hear about, um,
- 15:59Speaker 1: the issues in uh, the economy or the markets right now.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I don't think everybody has that kind of intrigue. But
- 16:08Speaker 1: what everybody is dealing with is inflation UM and gas
- 16:12Speaker 1: prices going up without necessarily uh well with with no
- 16:18Speaker 1: wage increase at least nothing valuable enough to the middle
- 16:22Speaker 1: and lower class right now to help compensate for these increases.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Is this just gonna continue, like if you had a
- 16:29Speaker 1: crystal ball, Jason, um, Are we just going to conside
- 16:32Speaker 1: the c these prices go up and up and up
- 16:35Speaker 1: and gas kind of stay around the five dollar UH
- 16:38Speaker 1: price forever? Or are we budgeting and saving now so
- 16:42Speaker 1: that in the future we'll get back to what we're
- 16:45Speaker 1: more comfortable spending on these things. Yeah, one of the
- 16:48Speaker 1: big issues going on right now, Ben is the fact
- 16:50Speaker 1: that this like we have this crystal ball in all
- 16:53Speaker 1: areas of life, like we always want to use history
- 16:55Speaker 1: to predict the future, like in anything, like even like
- 16:58Speaker 1: if you're listening right now, like think about a real relationship,
- 17:00Speaker 1: like you want to look at your last relationship to
- 17:03Speaker 1: try and avoid what didn't work. But the problem is
- 17:05Speaker 1: with the market, it's like we're dealing with the craziest
- 17:10Speaker 1: x we've ever dealt with. Like things are moving in
- 17:13Speaker 1: such different ways that we're forecasting and we don't know
- 17:16Speaker 1: what to do, and we're in this position where it's
- 17:18Speaker 1: almost like damned if you do, damned if you don't.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And so we just got the inflation report out, and
- 17:23Speaker 1: for anyone that doesn't know, it comes out monthly, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: so just like trying to forecast it, we really expected
- 17:29Speaker 1: it to be lower, and it came out at all
- 17:31Speaker 1: time highs. We haven't seen inflation this high, to put
- 17:34Speaker 1: it in perspective, in forty years plus year over year.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So people are panicking, and with panic becomes sell offs,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and you'll hear the term bear market a lot and
- 17:44Speaker 1: that means the markets down over in a period of time.
- 17:48Speaker 1: So that's what it means, because you're gonna hear it
- 17:49Speaker 1: a lot. But the thing that you should know is
- 17:52Speaker 1: that um interest rates are going to go up. They
- 17:54Speaker 1: have to, and the reason they're going to is because
- 17:56Speaker 1: it's gonna combat inflation. So if you have debt and
- 18:00Speaker 1: now really think about maybe refinancing because we know they're
- 18:04Speaker 1: going up. So that's a big thing. Uh. And the
- 18:06Speaker 1: other thing is like, just think more about where you're
- 18:09Speaker 1: spending your money and how you're spending it because of
- 18:12Speaker 1: the price of fuel in the way it's going up now.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I don't want to get too technical, but the government
- 18:16Speaker 1: is doing some small things to help from attack strategy,
- 18:20Speaker 1: what you can write off for your gas because it's
- 18:22Speaker 1: become so outrageously expensive. So know that some things are
- 18:26Speaker 1: being put in place, but like, really really think about
- 18:30Speaker 1: where you're spending your money. And a big one, I
- 18:31Speaker 1: would assume that most people on this pot are listening
- 18:34Speaker 1: to this podcast can relate to his rent. So if
- 18:37Speaker 1: you're listening this, like, I'll ask you a question, do
- 18:39Speaker 1: you rent? And so hopefully or not hopefully, but I
- 18:42Speaker 1: would assume some of you guys are saying, Yes. A
- 18:45Speaker 1: big ratio that you've got to know is if you're renting,
- 18:48Speaker 1: you have to know what the price to rent ratio
- 18:51Speaker 1: is in your market and you can google it. Just
- 18:53Speaker 1: google what is my price to rent ratio? So, for example,
- 18:56Speaker 1: in Detroit, price to rent ratio is about five. Okay, Jason,
- 19:00Speaker 1: what does the ratio? Does that mean? Five? That means
- 19:02Speaker 1: in five years if you're paying rent, in five years,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you could actually own a property. So it doesn't make
- 19:10Speaker 1: sense in this world where costs are so expensive to
- 19:13Speaker 1: be renting if you can afford to buy, because in
- 19:15Speaker 1: five years you would own it. Now, let's going to Manhattan.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Your price to rent ratio is like fifty five. It
- 19:20Speaker 1: would take you fifty five years given rent to have
- 19:23Speaker 1: ownership of the place. So there it might be more
- 19:26Speaker 1: advantageous to rent. So when you're thinking about costs, one
- 19:30Speaker 1: cost I think that most people listening would think about
- 19:32Speaker 1: is their rent. Really think about price to rent ratio
- 19:35Speaker 1: because it could definitely change what you're doing and how
- 19:38Speaker 1: you're building an asset. How can somebody out there right
- 19:41Speaker 1: now find the info needed to have these tax savings
- 19:46Speaker 1: when it comes to gas or when it comes to
- 19:48Speaker 1: maybe you know, it's not uh, it won't be shocking
- 19:52Speaker 1: if the government starts to do some things to subsidize
- 19:54Speaker 1: some of the price of groceries. Where can people find
- 19:57Speaker 1: that material to know if they can benefit from or not.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Shameless plug So Trading Secrets podcast we talk a lot
- 20:04Speaker 1: about it, and then we also have an Instagram account
- 20:06Speaker 1: Trading Secrets, where we try and get this stuff up
- 20:08Speaker 1: and out as soon as we can. But of course
- 20:10Speaker 1: there's other forums where you can get it quicker. You'll
- 20:12Speaker 1: just have to do a little digging. Like if you
- 20:13Speaker 1: go to I R S dot gov, you can see
- 20:16Speaker 1: all the things that they are putting out and but
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's it's a little too technical for most people, but
- 20:22Speaker 1: you can go to it. The easiest place I'm gonna
- 20:24Speaker 1: give you, like the Wikipedia and Finance, is called Investopedia.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So if you're ever anyone out there, if you are
- 20:31Speaker 1: listening and you get confused by something and you're embarrassed
- 20:34Speaker 1: to ask or you don't know what to do, literally
- 20:36Speaker 1: just go to investopedia. Put in the word, the term,
- 20:39Speaker 1: or the question, and their resources are barred on some
- 20:42Speaker 1: of the best out there, and they break it down
- 20:45Speaker 1: in a way that just it makes sense. It's not
- 20:47Speaker 1: so textbook and confusing. So that's Investopedia is a place
- 20:51Speaker 1: I go. Investopedia is all my favorites tab by the
- 20:54Speaker 1: way on my browser because I need help understanding a
- 20:58Speaker 1: lot of these acronyms and a lot of the things
- 21:01Speaker 1: that are being done and I just need to break
- 21:02Speaker 1: it down. Or YouTube is actually a good place to
- 21:05Speaker 1: to be, like what is X y Z and place
- 21:09Speaker 1: typically there's good videos explaining it. Um, all right, Jason,
- 21:13Speaker 1: let's take a break here. When we come back, we're
- 21:15Speaker 1: gonna kind of sandwich this podcast. We'rena talk like a
- 21:19Speaker 1: lot about what we just talked about, uh, kind of
- 21:21Speaker 1: current events, what's going on. We're gonna talk about in
- 21:23Speaker 1: a second, what happens in the bachelor world, how do
- 21:25Speaker 1: people make money? Do they make money? Is this all
- 21:28Speaker 1: a scam? And then we'll end it with a few
- 21:30Speaker 1: more personal questions and we'll get you out of here. Um,
- 21:33Speaker 1: but let's take a break, get a glass of water,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and we're back with Jason Tardi. All right, Jason, Uh,
- 21:47Speaker 1: as I said, we're gonna sandwich this episode with personal
- 21:50Speaker 1: finance and then also with some bachelor talk. Uh, Jason
- 21:54Speaker 1: it's Uh. We talked earlier about kind of the taboo
- 21:57Speaker 1: subjects around how much money do you make? Um? I
- 22:00Speaker 1: feel that way in the Bachelor world. Right. It started
- 22:03Speaker 1: when I became the Bachelor. I had no clue how
- 22:05Speaker 1: much money I should ask for to be the Bachelor. Um,
- 22:07Speaker 1: but you have this company negotiating with you, this massive company,
- 22:11Speaker 1: for the first time ever, and I'm like, I'll just
- 22:13Speaker 1: take anything, Just give me the opportunity. I guess. Um,
- 22:16Speaker 1: nobody wanted to talk to me about how much money
- 22:18Speaker 1: they made until post filming, and then I kind of
- 22:21Speaker 1: found out are people Let's just start with a very
- 22:24Speaker 1: general question, Um, are people making money coming on this show,
- 22:29Speaker 1: like is this is this a career like path for them? Yeah?
- 22:33Speaker 1: I mean it certainly can be, right, And I think
- 22:36Speaker 1: the reason people would say then why, And it's because
- 22:39Speaker 1: after the show, we now live in this world where, um,
- 22:43Speaker 1: on social media, your individual page, you're you're literally a
- 22:48Speaker 1: human billboard, right, and so you're gaining the demographic from
- 22:53Speaker 1: the show that is ideal to marketing agencies in brands
- 22:58Speaker 1: that are anything that are cosumer to direct business to
- 23:02Speaker 1: direct consumer. Right, So think about consumer brands, like all
- 23:06Speaker 1: the things right, like, I'm drinking Bubbly Sparkling water, my
- 23:09Speaker 1: iPhone that's right here, my oral b toothbrush, my bud
- 23:13Speaker 1: light that I drink, or ranch water, whatever it may be. Uh,
- 23:16Speaker 1: these are all direct to consumer brands, and you're now
- 23:19Speaker 1: stepping into a space where you have access to the
- 23:21Speaker 1: target market of direct to consumer brands and they're very
- 23:26Speaker 1: engaged in what you're doing. And it's just if you
- 23:29Speaker 1: think I was at c m AS recently and I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: looking at the stadium and I'm thinking about there's about
- 23:34Speaker 1: seventy people in the stadium, and my eyes just catching
- 23:36Speaker 1: all the billboards and things that are out there, and
- 23:39Speaker 1: this seventy people I'm looking. I'm like, oh my god,
- 23:41Speaker 1: this is so many people. Then I could go to
- 23:44Speaker 1: one of Ben Higgins videos on what of his reels
- 23:47Speaker 1: or something on Instagram and there's a million humans, one
- 23:50Speaker 1: million humans checking this stuff out plus and so it
- 23:55Speaker 1: creates an opportunity to monetize at a level that people
- 23:58Speaker 1: just really don't end diticipate. So if we can throw
- 24:02Speaker 1: some numbers around, uh, just based on what you've learned,
- 24:06Speaker 1: it's gonna be a two part question. If you don't
- 24:08Speaker 1: mind the main question is how much money are typically
- 24:13Speaker 1: people making uh from these ads and post show And
- 24:18Speaker 1: then also the second part of this is or have
- 24:20Speaker 1: people made money uh like some of the earlier seasons
- 24:23Speaker 1: made more money? Or are people making more money now? Um?
- 24:27Speaker 1: Do you have any of this information? Well, the information
- 24:30Speaker 1: I do have is that, like if you look at
- 24:32Speaker 1: the market cap and the market size of influencer marketing,
- 24:35Speaker 1: it's grown by the billions you know over here, I
- 24:38Speaker 1: mean it's it's exponentially grown, so that it is absolutely
- 24:42Speaker 1: at the highest level it's ever been. Right. Now, what's
- 24:45Speaker 1: interesting is is COVID actually propelled the market because while
- 24:50Speaker 1: no one was driving anymore, listening to the radio, listening
- 24:52Speaker 1: to podcasts as much walking or going past the billboard,
- 24:57Speaker 1: the marketing groups that weren't like leaders to this space
- 25:01Speaker 1: had no option but to deploy capital towards our phones.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And so now the market is bigger than it's ever been.
- 25:08Speaker 1: So I think what you're seeing is a whole lot
- 25:10Speaker 1: more volume now, a whole lot more volume and larger
- 25:13Speaker 1: dollars with larger opportunities. But with more volume and opportunities
- 25:17Speaker 1: comes more competition. And as a result of competition, I
- 25:21Speaker 1: think what you're seeing is probably maybe a little bit
- 25:24Speaker 1: less opportunity for those who haven't like built the audiences
- 25:28Speaker 1: that are appealing to the brands. And if you look
- 25:31Speaker 1: at what's appealing to a brand, it's the following count,
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's the brand of the individual, it's the engagement of
- 25:38Speaker 1: their audience, it's the community they've built, it's the quality
- 25:41Speaker 1: of content they've put out, the consistency and cadence of
- 25:45Speaker 1: what they're putting out, all those things that really factor
- 25:48Speaker 1: in price points and rates. And so people always wonder
- 25:52Speaker 1: if you could throw out like a range of what
- 25:54Speaker 1: an individual could make. Let's say somebody that's a very
- 25:58Speaker 1: successful contestant from the show. We're gonna through three categories,
- 26:00Speaker 1: contestants villains from the show that have a large following
- 26:04Speaker 1: in the leads. Maybe with most leads I think maybe,
- 26:09Speaker 1: except as of recent have more than five thousand followers.
- 26:13Speaker 1: We'll do a little baseline here, So some of my
- 26:15Speaker 1: in like, I mean, here's obviously speculation, right, but I'm
- 26:19Speaker 1: gonna do a little speculation. I think in general, females
- 26:25Speaker 1: in this space that are from the Bachelor franchise will
- 26:28Speaker 1: do better than a male. If you take the same
- 26:31Speaker 1: following same engagement, your your female will monetize better. Why
- 26:37Speaker 1: because it's it's more relatable to the audience, which is
- 26:41Speaker 1: pretty much I would say there's probably not anyone in
- 26:43Speaker 1: the bat I would be willing to bet this that
- 26:45Speaker 1: there's no one that's come off the Bachelor's franchise with
- 26:48Speaker 1: at least ten thousand followers that doesn't have at least
- 26:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna say eighty five percent demographic of females eighteen
- 26:58Speaker 1: to forty four, that's my speculation. As a result of that,
- 27:02Speaker 1: it creates a lot more relatability, higher engagement, easier to sell,
- 27:07Speaker 1: right Like if so, that is a big that's a
- 27:09Speaker 1: big thing to note if you're taking a female lead
- 27:13Speaker 1: in today's world, with the opportunity that's out there. Um,
- 27:17Speaker 1: you know, assuming that the show runs the way it's running,
- 27:21Speaker 1: you know, within a year or two there they should
- 27:26Speaker 1: absolutely be monetizing at the seven figure level. I would
- 27:30Speaker 1: think so after about two years, I would think they
- 27:33Speaker 1: have grossed um for sure, two years post show as
- 27:37Speaker 1: a lead female at least in the seven figure space
- 27:42Speaker 1: if they are hungry to do just that. And that
- 27:46Speaker 1: is why everyone leaves their job, right, People are wanting
- 27:49Speaker 1: to know we've talked about in the last episode. Yes,
- 27:52Speaker 1: there's different motivations, but when there's that kind of money
- 27:55Speaker 1: being thrown at you, it's tough not to take a
- 27:57Speaker 1: detour into that space. So I think that I think
- 28:01Speaker 1: a villain something to know, talk to a lot of
- 28:03Speaker 1: CEOs of like big big agencies. One thing that's interesting
- 28:07Speaker 1: in the space of influencing, if you are a G
- 28:10Speaker 1: rated influencer, your total gross income will be so much
- 28:15Speaker 1: higher than an R rated influencer. So why do we
- 28:18Speaker 1: look at Forbes List and people are like, we don't
- 28:21Speaker 1: but Forbes List and like, look at the fact that
- 28:23Speaker 1: like babies and kids are some of the highest paid
- 28:25Speaker 1: influencers out there. It's because they're g rated content. And
- 28:29Speaker 1: so the big brands with the big dollars that could
- 28:31Speaker 1: put massive spend behind it have no liability with a
- 28:35Speaker 1: g rated influencer. So an R rated influencer, the people
- 28:38Speaker 1: that might be selling you know, dildos or things of
- 28:43Speaker 1: that nature, Uh, they are going to they can still
- 28:47Speaker 1: make a lot of money doing it. And there's nothing
- 28:49Speaker 1: wrong with selling a dildo. Uh, there's nothing wrong with
- 28:52Speaker 1: that space. Um, but they're gonna make less on an
- 28:57Speaker 1: actual rate perspective than someone who is in the g
- 29:00Speaker 1: YOU rated space. So can you be a villain and
- 29:03Speaker 1: have kind of like a negative connotation and sell into
- 29:06Speaker 1: that PG thirteen R rated brand? For sure, but you're
- 29:09Speaker 1: gonna make a lot less based on what the executives
- 29:12Speaker 1: of this space c then someone that's in that g
- 29:15Speaker 1: PG level, If that makes sense. Is there actually a
- 29:19Speaker 1: rating system like do brands have like Ben Higgins R rated,
- 29:23Speaker 1: Jason Tartik G rated? Like do they rank them? Or
- 29:27Speaker 1: is this just you know, you using words to kind
- 29:29Speaker 1: of describe how brands see you. So the second episode
- 29:33Speaker 1: of Trading I'm saying this because it's so true. The
- 29:35Speaker 1: second episode ever a Trading Secrets, I got the CEO
- 29:38Speaker 1: of an influencer agency. He said it was like the
- 29:40Speaker 1: biggest agency in the world. I didn't really fact check it,
- 29:44Speaker 1: but I asked him, literally, been the same exact question,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and he said that the big brands have algorithms and
- 29:51Speaker 1: and they have um they have software that you can
- 29:55Speaker 1: put in a profile and it will spit out what
- 29:58Speaker 1: their rating is. So he was telling me, like, what
- 30:01Speaker 1: because I swear a little bit like I swear a
- 30:02Speaker 1: decent amount. I just said you know, especially the podcast.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It's just I'm talking. He's like that can be picked
- 30:08Speaker 1: up in your content. Your content can be picked up
- 30:11Speaker 1: in your rating, which is wild. So you are good
- 30:16Speaker 1: with that PGG rated for I think I would give
- 30:18Speaker 1: Ben Agains a PG boring saw me too, that's it. Yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 1: it goes to bed at nine. He's got something wrong
- 30:28Speaker 1: with him. We just don't know what it is. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I get it. I hear it all. Hey, I feel
- 30:34Speaker 1: like I'm listening to troll. Uh. Jason. Final question for
- 30:39Speaker 1: you about the Bachelor World, Um, how again? You know
- 30:46Speaker 1: you kind of mentioned earlier that there's a lot more
- 30:49Speaker 1: competition out there. We don't see the follower account as
- 30:51Speaker 1: high as it once was from the franchise. That's just truth,
- 30:55Speaker 1: you know, for whatever reasons, lack of viewership, lack of engagement,
- 31:00Speaker 1: more people to follow, who knows, we could blame on
- 31:01Speaker 1: all those things. Maybe it's maybe it's a mixture of
- 31:03Speaker 1: all three um people coming off the show today contestants.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Let's not go with leads. That's a whole different beast.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Uh is coming off the show and being an influencer
- 31:14Speaker 1: still a viable income stream. Do you think that they
- 31:19Speaker 1: can make this work. And then if so, how many
- 31:23Speaker 1: years can you stay an influencer before that income stream
- 31:30Speaker 1: goest gets so low? Because I'm imagining there's like a
- 31:33Speaker 1: depreciating accent there where you're really relevant. Then if you
- 31:36Speaker 1: don't continue to stay relevant, you're not as needed for
- 31:39Speaker 1: these brands. How long can these people still make it?
- 31:43Speaker 1: I think you can make so Like I have seen
- 31:46Speaker 1: so I have fifty I have investment into a talent
- 31:50Speaker 1: agency so I do get some exposure to this stuff.
- 31:53Speaker 1: And I have seen food influencers, lifestyle and influencers, unscripted
- 31:57Speaker 1: television influencers, comedians, I mean all the different genres. And
- 32:03Speaker 1: the biggest concern out there is longevity. How long will
- 32:06Speaker 1: it last? But if you are creating you know through
- 32:09Speaker 1: like you know your individuality and your authenticity, you're commute,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you're creating that community, you're creating that brand, and you're
- 32:16Speaker 1: putting good content out there, the deals won't stop. The
- 32:19Speaker 1: deals will not stop. Even if you're you know, relevancy,
- 32:22Speaker 1: especially with the Batchelor off the show, your followers may decrease,
- 32:26Speaker 1: if you're still building that community with you, those deals
- 32:30Speaker 1: and those opportunities won't won't go away because there's more
- 32:34Speaker 1: of them out there than anywhere. The big question then
- 32:37Speaker 1: becomes and this is more like on talent management sides,
- 32:40Speaker 1: like do you have the right people that are advocating
- 32:42Speaker 1: for you. Now, it's interesting with the show, as you
- 32:44Speaker 1: see a lot of the competitive shows people are coming
- 32:47Speaker 1: off with like massive followings. And I was just doing
- 32:50Speaker 1: a little consulting with some dancers on Dancing with the Stars.
- 32:53Speaker 1: It will be really interesting because this will be one
- 32:55Speaker 1: of the first shows that is taking a live network
- 33:00Speaker 1: national station to streaming, So it will be fascinating to see,
- 33:05Speaker 1: like what happens with the following there and with the
- 33:08Speaker 1: Bachelor franchise. I think one of the issues just in
- 33:10Speaker 1: general with these big followings is like your total volume
- 33:14Speaker 1: of viewership is decreasing a little bit, right, Like I
- 33:18Speaker 1: think it depends like the Bachelor always does well, Batcherette
- 33:21Speaker 1: does a little worse, Paradise can go. But if that
- 33:24Speaker 1: number of network viewers decreases, it will be interesting to
- 33:28Speaker 1: see how they spin into live shows on streaming and
- 33:32Speaker 1: if that will then give a huge bump up. But
- 33:34Speaker 1: you could have fifteen thousand followers and you could create
- 33:37Speaker 1: a life changing business if those fifteen thousand followers are
- 33:40Speaker 1: engaged not for today, not for tomorrow, but literally for
- 33:43Speaker 1: a lifetime. Yeah. I mean I would say even at
- 33:45Speaker 1: generous my coffee company, if we had fifteen thousand subscribers
- 33:48Speaker 1: that were subscribing to our coffee, let's say hundred subscribers,
- 33:53Speaker 1: that was that's that is a good business like that
- 33:56Speaker 1: are buying our coffee monthly, and we know it, we
- 33:59Speaker 1: can predict it, we can plan for the future around that.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Um So no, it's a great point. Hey, We're gonna
- 34:05Speaker 1: take one more break. When we come back. We have
- 34:06Speaker 1: just a few more questions for Jason relating with him personally.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And I'm gonna end uh with a very dramatic question.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Um I'm not gonna tease it, but it's gonna be.
- 34:17Speaker 1: It's gonna put them on the spot. We'll be back
- 34:19Speaker 1: with almost famous podcast. All right again, thank you the
- 34:32Speaker 1: Best Egg for helping us put on this podcast. It's
- 34:35Speaker 1: been awesome to talk to Jason. Jason, just a few
- 34:37Speaker 1: more questions for you here. Um really, this one goes
- 34:42Speaker 1: back to the beginning. But have you always been good
- 34:44Speaker 1: with your money? If somebody's out there listening and they've
- 34:46Speaker 1: heard everything that you've said to day, and they've heard
- 34:48Speaker 1: about the influencer marketing, and they've heard about the idea
- 34:50Speaker 1: that if they have even followers on Instagram, and you know,
- 34:54Speaker 1: there is a level to where it is valuable to
- 34:56Speaker 1: have some followers on social media. Um and uh. And
- 35:01Speaker 1: they're listening to this and they're going, Hey, I think
- 35:02Speaker 1: I can do something with all of this. And thanks
- 35:05Speaker 1: to Jason for kind of putting that out. Has this
- 35:07Speaker 1: always come natural to you or had you did you
- 35:10Speaker 1: have to learn along the way. Yeah, I mean I
- 35:12Speaker 1: think it's so important for your audience to know. Ben,
- 35:14Speaker 1: for these for starters, you could have five hundred, you
- 35:17Speaker 1: could have a hundred followers. It takes literally one year
- 35:19Speaker 1: and one relationship that could change everything. And these days
- 35:22Speaker 1: on TikTok, I mean, it's crazy what people what's happening
- 35:26Speaker 1: to people overnight? I mean since the pandemic. The people
- 35:28Speaker 1: that I've talked to, their live his their lives are
- 35:31Speaker 1: night and day like, There's never been more of an
- 35:34Speaker 1: opportune time if you have an opinion or a thought
- 35:37Speaker 1: or an expertise to get it out there, because you
- 35:39Speaker 1: don't need a TV show anymore, you don't need a
- 35:41Speaker 1: platform to give you the launch. These platforms exist, and
- 35:45Speaker 1: so get it out there, take a shot at it.
- 35:47Speaker 1: You never know. One little quick thing the Points guy
- 35:49Speaker 1: had him on the podcast. Two years the guy was
- 35:51Speaker 1: working in HR at a bank seventy k started writing
- 35:55Speaker 1: about how people could utilize their credit card points. That's it.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Because he loved it. You just had a past about
- 36:00Speaker 1: created the blog two years later, sold it for eight figures.
- 36:03Speaker 1: He had no jump start, he had no show. Eight figures.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Twelve years later, he still runs the business. He's exited twice.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Life changing from credit card freaking points. Okay, now I'm
- 36:13Speaker 1: gonna get back to your question about being like on
- 36:16Speaker 1: the money side. Um, my grandfather was an oral surgeon,
- 36:20Speaker 1: and so he at a very young age, brought me
- 36:23Speaker 1: in and told me that he had an advisor and
- 36:25Speaker 1: an advisor. And this does not go for every advisor
- 36:28Speaker 1: out there, but his advisor always told him when to buy,
- 36:31Speaker 1: never told him when to sell. And he started to
- 36:33Speaker 1: question him a little bit and noticed that it was
- 36:35Speaker 1: a little um sketchy in his ways. And so he
- 36:39Speaker 1: took a massive hit with fees, but exited every single
- 36:43Speaker 1: dollar from that advisor, and he managed all his money himself.
- 36:46Speaker 1: And he taught himself how to do it. And so
- 36:48Speaker 1: he sat me down at sixteen at the time and
- 36:51Speaker 1: went through every single dollar that he had and where
- 36:53Speaker 1: it was, and where and how the families money all
- 36:56Speaker 1: these things. So it became very comfortable to me to
- 36:59Speaker 1: like talk of out these things. And so as an
- 37:01Speaker 1: early age, and I've I've always kind of taken the
- 37:04Speaker 1: mindset that, like, you need to be smart with your
- 37:07Speaker 1: money because it can create independence and opportunity unlike anything else.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We're gonna popcorn question around here. None of them are
- 37:14Speaker 1: going to really really relate with each other. Um, but
- 37:16Speaker 1: they're just questions I want to get to with you
- 37:18Speaker 1: before we closed out here. UM. For somebody listening right
- 37:22Speaker 1: now working in a career, Um, they love, but they
- 37:26Speaker 1: feel like they need to be compensated more. What tips
- 37:28Speaker 1: do you give somebody? Uh, to negotiate their salaries? The
- 37:32Speaker 1: easiest thing to do. There's a whole chapter about this
- 37:34Speaker 1: in the book, but only thirty people their entire LIFs
- 37:37Speaker 1: negotiate for themselves, which is scary in itself. But the
- 37:41Speaker 1: biggest thing you gotta do is you got to find
- 37:43Speaker 1: out what your value is. So if I say to
- 37:45Speaker 1: you right now, what should you be paid? And you
- 37:47Speaker 1: don't know the answer, you better go get the answer.
- 37:49Speaker 1: How I did it was I took all my analytics
- 37:53Speaker 1: for what I was doing in my job, put it
- 37:54Speaker 1: on a resume, went out to head hunters that were
- 37:57Speaker 1: looking for bankers, and I just said, go find me offer.
- 38:00Speaker 1: They found me an offer from a competitor. Uh. They
- 38:02Speaker 1: told me exactly how much it was gonna be. I
- 38:04Speaker 1: think it was, like I think at the time, the
- 38:07Speaker 1: offer was, if I remember correct, was like a hundred
- 38:10Speaker 1: and forty grand with bonus potential up to like I
- 38:13Speaker 1: think it was like of the base. And so I
- 38:15Speaker 1: took it into my It took this, by the way, guys,
- 38:17Speaker 1: it took me ten minutes, literally a ten minute conversation.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Here's this, give me a verbal offer. I go into
- 38:23Speaker 1: my boss's office and I said to him in a
- 38:25Speaker 1: very like, non threatening way, like I don't want to leave,
- 38:29Speaker 1: but I have to do my due diligence. Here you
- 38:32Speaker 1: can see yourself. I'm not making it up. This is
- 38:34Speaker 1: the email. This is the offer I was given. I'm
- 38:36Speaker 1: not even asking you to match it. I'm just asking
- 38:40Speaker 1: you to say, does it make sense for him to
- 38:43Speaker 1: be compensated more. How bad do we want him? Can
- 38:45Speaker 1: you do anything? And you don't need to make a decision. Now,
- 38:48Speaker 1: forty eight hours he came back and he gave me.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I think he ended up bumping my pay. It was
- 38:52Speaker 1: like to one fifteen or something. So no, he didn't
- 38:55Speaker 1: match the one thirty or one forty of whatever it was,
- 38:58Speaker 1: but it was like a round of pay increase and
- 39:02Speaker 1: that was a lot of That was a huge change
- 39:04Speaker 1: for me. That took twelve minutes. Go find out what
- 39:07Speaker 1: other people would pay you in competitive industries or competitive companies,
- 39:11Speaker 1: and use that information to negotiate for yourself. And if
- 39:14Speaker 1: my boss comes back and says to me, no raise,
- 39:17Speaker 1: you got nothing. I just got about five years of
- 39:20Speaker 1: information in attendinut conversation. So why am I stay here
- 39:23Speaker 1: another two years busting my chop, succeeding every expectation to
- 39:26Speaker 1: know that I'm never going to get the rays that
- 39:28Speaker 1: I need anyway, I gotta hit the door. So go
- 39:30Speaker 1: find out what your value is. It's a great point.
- 39:33Speaker 1: And to highlight something you said is in that non
- 39:36Speaker 1: threatening way, right, you don't want to be walking there,
- 39:37Speaker 1: say this and they say you're out. No, there's I mean,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I think most people in leadership at companies welcome this conversation.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I know I do with my employees. When somebody comes
- 39:48Speaker 1: to me and says, hey, I think I need to
- 39:49Speaker 1: be compensated more. Great, Let's open up the door to
- 39:52Speaker 1: have this question, this this conversation. Let's talk about why
- 39:55Speaker 1: you feel this way, what you're doing that feels that
- 39:57Speaker 1: makes you feel like you're far exceeding what you're getting
- 40:00Speaker 1: paid for, and let's see if we can work work
- 40:02Speaker 1: something out here. I welcome those conversations, because here's the
- 40:05Speaker 1: other point. Something very interesting I think that I've learned
- 40:09Speaker 1: is typically your boss cares about you. Hopefully you have
- 40:12Speaker 1: a good boss that cares about you, but they're not
- 40:15Speaker 1: thinking about you a percent of the time. And there
- 40:18Speaker 1: and and if they are thinking about you, it's oftentimes
- 40:20Speaker 1: about productivity and what needs to be done for the company,
- 40:22Speaker 1: not exactly if you're being compensated fairly until the end
- 40:25Speaker 1: of the year, where that's a conversation that everybody's having
- 40:28Speaker 1: on bonuses into the year, you know, salary increases, those
- 40:31Speaker 1: type of things, but throughout the year, it's I welcome
- 40:35Speaker 1: somebody coming and saying, hey, I need more totally, totally,
- 40:39Speaker 1: and I think you could get more like to your point,
- 40:42Speaker 1: if you have a good boss, your boss is gonna
- 40:43Speaker 1: do what's like or at least have some type of
- 40:45Speaker 1: insight that's gonna be who like your personal interests. I
- 40:48Speaker 1: just had an employee come to me. She got an
- 40:51Speaker 1: offer from a not a competitor, a company in tech,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and she's awesome. She was great ten out a ten employee.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Our financials just couldn't support that race she got. I said, there,
- 41:02Speaker 1: we're not a tech company. We haven't raised money the
- 41:04Speaker 1: way they've raised money. I can't pay that. But if
- 41:07Speaker 1: you want to go like, you gotta go. And maybe
- 41:10Speaker 1: one day I'll get to the company to the point
- 41:12Speaker 1: where we can pay that and I will come knock
- 41:14Speaker 1: it on your door. But for your best interest, if
- 41:17Speaker 1: this is something you're excited about, you gotta go take that.
- 41:19Speaker 1: And those are the things I think you should look for,
- 41:21Speaker 1: especially to your point, Ben, when you're interviewing, you know,
- 41:24Speaker 1: what's just as important as your pay and maybe more important,
- 41:27Speaker 1: is who is your leader and is that someone that
- 41:30Speaker 1: you aspire to be, because if it's not, you're in
- 41:32Speaker 1: the wrong spot. Yeah, yeah, great points. Okay, final question
- 41:35Speaker 1: for you, buddy. Uh again Uh. And here, I'm gonna
- 41:39Speaker 1: set some parameters here so it's not awkward for you,
- 41:43Speaker 1: Not that I would fall into this conversation at all,
- 41:46Speaker 1: but I'm just gonna make it easy from the beginning.
- 41:48Speaker 1: The answer here cannot be me, It cannot be your fiance,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and it cannot be yourself. Okay, So who do you
- 41:56Speaker 1: think from the show from The Bachelor and Bachelor at
- 41:59Speaker 1: World has been really smart about their career? Who do
- 42:03Speaker 1: you look at and go They've done well with what
- 42:05Speaker 1: they've been given. Um. Alright, so it can't be me, you,
- 42:11Speaker 1: it can't be Caitlin. Those are the parameters I'm gonna
- 42:14Speaker 1: go with. Um. Jillian Harris is one who's done unbelievable.
- 42:20Speaker 1: She's created in phenomenal community, phenomenal brand. Um. I think
- 42:27Speaker 1: one thing that Nick Vile has done exceptionally is that
- 42:31Speaker 1: he found a niche that the Bachelor audience still has
- 42:35Speaker 1: extreme interest in at the same level they do the Bachelor,
- 42:38Speaker 1: and he has plugged and worked his ass off to
- 42:40Speaker 1: build a really solid community. He's done great with that.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I think another guy he's done great, Travis Stark. Unbelievable.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I mean what he's done in like the doctor space
- 42:50Speaker 1: and been hosting like that is phenomenal. Let's talk about
- 42:53Speaker 1: more recent people. I think Tyler Cameron genius one show.
- 43:00Speaker 1: All the pieces of that puzzle connected at a level
- 43:03Speaker 1: that he's one of the most followed people from the show.
- 43:07Speaker 1: And he could have been going to be the Bachelor.
- 43:09Speaker 1: He could have had those opportunities, and he knew that
- 43:12Speaker 1: he could take this platform and move into a different direction.
- 43:15Speaker 1: He has and he has. He's branded himself brilliantly, like
- 43:21Speaker 1: absolutely brilliantly. Another one I'm gonna put out there just
- 43:24Speaker 1: just because it's more recent and more fun. I think
- 43:26Speaker 1: she's doing a phenomenal, phenomenal job. Is Rachel Kirconnell. She's
- 43:30Speaker 1: consistent with her posting. She she's in the lifestyle blogging
- 43:34Speaker 1: vlogging space. Her engagement is super high. She never misses
- 43:39Speaker 1: a day. I've never had that conversation with her, but
- 43:43Speaker 1: like from a third like third level looking in, she's
- 43:48Speaker 1: building something I think that's gonna be extremely sustainable. That's
- 43:51Speaker 1: very impressive. You just named off a lot of people,
- 43:54Speaker 1: a lot of people that I go, yeah, of course
- 43:57Speaker 1: they've they've done great. Now if I would have opened
- 44:00Speaker 1: up the door for you. I would have to put
- 44:02Speaker 1: Caitlin in that category. I think Caitlin is um done
- 44:07Speaker 1: an incredible job. Here's the weirdest thing for tell me
- 44:10Speaker 1: if you disagree as we close out here is I
- 44:12Speaker 1: thought I was having as a year coming on. Caitlin
- 44:14Speaker 1: kind of disappeared for like two years, and I think
- 44:16Speaker 1: there's like some behind the scenes there, right, but like
- 44:19Speaker 1: you didn't hear a lot of Caitlin after her time
- 44:22Speaker 1: on The Bachelor at and then she kind of like
- 44:25Speaker 1: rose from the ashes and like this kind of blossomed
- 44:29Speaker 1: with her podcast and her following in her wine and
- 44:31Speaker 1: her scrun cheese and then into hosting, and she crushed
- 44:34Speaker 1: it into hosting, she liked, I don't know what she
- 44:36Speaker 1: was doing, we can all assume, but then she, like you,
- 44:40Speaker 1: kind of came into her life and she blossomboddy. I
- 44:42Speaker 1: don't know if you can take credit for that, but
- 44:43Speaker 1: it kind of feels like Caitlin is is living the
- 44:46Speaker 1: good life now. I mean, that's nice to you to say.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I think she helps me with a lot of things.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I think I can help her with a lot of things,
- 44:53Speaker 1: like on the business end, as far as like operations
- 44:55Speaker 1: and like fundamentals, but her creativity and her community is
- 44:58Speaker 1: unreal honest though, I think to take away from that
- 45:01Speaker 1: is like, unless you're in a really comfortable spot with
- 45:07Speaker 1: where you are and who you are, uh and knowing
- 45:10Speaker 1: yourself better than like anybody, it takes that to get
- 45:15Speaker 1: to the next level, you know what I mean? And
- 45:17Speaker 1: I think for Caitlin is like I don't know any
- 45:20Speaker 1: like too many people in my life that know themselves
- 45:23Speaker 1: better than Caitlin knows herself. And that's willing to move
- 45:28Speaker 1: forward in the direction that Caitlin feels best for her,
- 45:32Speaker 1: regardless of what anybody says, how someone puts her down,
- 45:35Speaker 1: how someone tells her she's wrong. You know, she just
- 45:38Speaker 1: knows herself and what she wants out of life so well,
- 45:42Speaker 1: and like that's a massive takeaway from me. And and
- 45:45Speaker 1: she's just she's built just something that's unbelievable, and the
- 45:48Speaker 1: core of it is from her knowing herself and empowering
- 45:51Speaker 1: others to do the same. Yeah, talk about longevity, I
- 45:54Speaker 1: mean Caitlin, Caitlin Bristol could literally again disappear, and her
- 45:59Speaker 1: brands and the brands that she's built in the community
- 46:01Speaker 1: she's built around him, would still be there. I mean,
- 46:04Speaker 1: what an incredible compliment like on the business side to
- 46:08Speaker 1: what she's done with her and her team. Just super
- 46:10Speaker 1: cool to see. Well, that's a good note to end on. Jason,
