- The Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel story just keeps getting messier. Photos at an adults-only resort in Sedona, both of them married, The Athletic pulling her off coverage, and Adam Schefter getting grilled about it on Philly radio. This is the NFL offseason drama nobody had on their bingo card. Welcome to The Sports Hangover Daily, I'm Michael Benatar. Alright, let's get into it. Look — I don't love leading with gossip over games, but this Russini-Vrabel situation is the biggest story in the NFL right now, and it's not close. The New York Post dropped photos showing Athletic reporter Dianna Russini and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at the Ambiente resort in Sedona. Holding hands, hugging, interlocking fingers by the pool. Both married. Both denying anything inappropriate. Vrabel called it "a completely innocent interaction," said any suggestion otherwise is "laughable." Russini says the photos don't represent the full picture — that there were six people hanging out that day. Here's what matters beyond the tabloid stuff. The Athletic, which is owned by the New York Times, has pulled Russini off coverage. Her byline's been gone since Tuesday. And yet Vrabel? He's still the head coach of the New England Patriots. Nobody's asking him to step back from anything. That double standard is loud. A reporter gets sidelined while the coach gets to call it laughable and move on? That tells you everything about how the NFL ecosystem works. The access flows one direction. The consequences apparently do too. Oh, and the photos were apparently shopped around by an anonymous tipster who wanted four figures from TMZ. Four figures. Someone tried to sell this story for like two grand. That's the part that almost makes me laugh. Almost. Alright, let's talk some actual basketball because Friday night's fifteen-game NBA slate was stacked. The headliner was San Antonio and Dallas — Wemby versus Flagg — and it lived up to the hype. Victor Wembanyama went for FORTY points and thirteen rebounds. That was his 65th game of the season, which officially makes him eligible for NBA awards. And honestly? Good luck to everyone else in that MVP conversation. Cooper Flagg wasn't bad either — thirty-three points, six boards, five assists — but Dallas has now lost eleven of their last thirteen. That roster around Flagg just isn't there yet. Over in LA, LeBron put the Suns away early. Lakers won a hundred and one to seventy-three. LeBron had twenty-eight points on ten of sixteen shooting, twelve assists, and four steals in just thirty-two minutes. He also recorded his twelve-thousandth career assist. Only the fourth player in NBA history to do that. The Lakers have won fifteen of their last nineteen, and they're looking scary going into the play-in. AJ Green had the individual performance of the night for Milwaukee. Career-high thirty-five points. Went eleven for sixteen from three. He became just the third Buck EVER to hit ten or more threes in a game. Bucks beat the Nets a hundred twenty-five to a hundred and eight. Atlanta clinched a postseason spot with a beatdown of Cleveland, a hundred twenty-four to a hundred and two. CJ McCollum had twenty-nine, dropped twenty-five of those in the first half, went six of eight from deep. Dyson Daniels had a triple-double — thirteen, ten, and twelve. Hawks will finish fifth or sixth in the East. Quick hits — Detroit handled Charlotte, and they've already locked up the one seed in the East. Minnesota snapped Houston's eight-game win streak behind twenty-three from Terrence Shannon Jr. off the bench and twenty-two from Anthony Edwards in his return. And the Celtics clinched the two seed. On the NHL side, the Kings beat the Oilers one to nothing at Crypto. Anton Forsberg made twenty-seven saves for the shutout. Anze Kopitar played his last regular-season home game before retirement. That's a real one for any LA hockey fan. Kopitar IS that franchise. Meanwhile the Hurricanes keep rolling — they beat Utah four to one and have won six of their last seven. And Colorado clinched the Presidents' Trophy after Nathan MacKinnon scored his league-leading fifty-second goal of the season. Last NFL note — the Eagles quietly made a smart move, grabbing Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay for a fifth and a sixth. They signed him to a one-year, twelve-and-a-half-million-dollar extension. Wicks had a down year in 2025, but he's only twenty-five with real upside. With all the A.J. Brown trade noise, Philly's building insurance. Smart. Here's my Hangover Take. I wanna talk about the Cowboys for a second. Markquese Bell got arrested on drug charges in Prosper, Texas, on Friday. James Pearce Jr. is a no-show at Falcons workouts after his arrest earlier this year. Kyle Hamilton is publicly ripping the Ravens' standards. And this is all in the same week as the Russini-Vrabel photos. We're eleven days from the draft and the NFL can't stop tripping over itself. Every April we hear about "character concerns" for twenty-one-year-old kids coming out of college. Scouts ding guys for a bad interview or a parking ticket. But the pros? Coaches, veterans, reporters — they get the benefit of the doubt every single time. The league loves accountability as a talking point. They just don't love applying it evenly. That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
