- 0:02Arsenal left side to the middle. What a move by Philip Forsberg.
- 0:06One of the best from Scoresberg. It's the podcast that loves the
- 0:12hockey team you love. Sorrow stops him with the
- 0:15blocker. This is the Predator's official
- 0:18podcast with Cara Hammer and Max hers for the empty net and hits
- 0:22it on about on 102.5 and 106.3. The game at
- 0:27nashvillepredators.com This is the Predators official podcast
- 0:32here on Friday, November the 8th.
- 0:34Predators have lost three in a row.
- 0:37It's been an up and down week with a lot more down than up and
- 0:41we are here to talk about it before hockey fights Cancer
- 0:44Tonight, which will also preview Saturday night in Smashville.
- 0:47November 9th. First ever meeting between the
- 0:49Preds and the Utah Hockey Club in Bridstone Arena and the back
- 0:53on the road for five more. So I hope to see you on Saturday
- 0:56night in Smashville. Last chance to see your Preds in
- 0:58person for a while, unless you want to head out West, including
- 1:03the Kara Hammer's home state of Colorado.
- 1:05Kara Hammer will be there. She is also here right now.
- 1:08Hello Hammer. What's up, Max?
- 1:10I feel like let's start this podcast with the up because we
- 1:14talk about going out West. Obviously the Preds have their
- 1:17last home game before the before the big road trip against Utah
- 1:20like you just mentioned, but then they take on the Colorado
- 1:24Avalanche, a team that they just had a big time win over last
- 1:27Saturday night in Smashville. Kara, I do have a point of
- 1:31contention here. What's that?
- 1:33Is it Colorado or Colorado as a native?
- 1:37Colorado. Colorado.
- 1:40Yeah, it's Colorado, but don't but you know, wait, you just
- 1:43switched? You just switched.
- 1:47This is this was all the hate tweets I used to get back in the
- 1:50day because I can't even say the word Tennessee Titans correctly.
- 1:53So I am like the last person to ask how to ever pronounce
- 1:56anything, especially when I may drop in a little Missouri or a
- 2:00little Washington. You just don't know.
- 2:03All right, well, we'll find someone with less twang than
- 2:05Carrie Hammer to settle that when we're out in Denver and
- 2:08I'll be wearing my South Park tie there on Monday.
- 2:10But the Preds did beat the ABS on home ice to start this busy 4
- 2:13game week. Preds are in a stretch of seven
- 2:15games in 12 days. This is their only win in that
- 2:18stretch so far. Five games into it, they beat
- 2:22the Avalanche on Saturday night in Smashville.
- 2:24Big tip in goal by Colton Sissons to give the Preds the
- 2:27lead for good late in the second period in that game.
- 2:29Kara. Yeah, I feel like there was a
- 2:32lot of highlights, Max, in that second period alone.
- 2:35Steven Samkos got the power play going.
- 2:37Things were looking really good when he was able to score there.
- 2:39But how about Zach LaRue? He was the one who really picked
- 2:42up the assists on Colton Sisson's goal.
- 2:44And you felt like things were starting to look really good.
- 2:47And obviously the boys kind of they needed it up.
- 2:49We we talked about it being up and down.
- 2:51They were coming off a bad loss against Edmonton, so that second
- 2:55period it, it felt like good hockey for the president, Felt
- 2:58like they were they were getting things going.
- 3:01They were playing connected. Yeah, they played ahead into the
- 3:05third period and were able to get another goal.
- 3:07Roman Yossi a power play rocket for his first goal of the season
- 3:11In game #11 of the season. Took a while for the captain to
- 3:14get his first but it was a bullet for his first on the
- 3:17power play A1 timer in the slot in tight set up by Steven
- 3:21Stamkos. Eustace on and then had no
- 3:24chance on that one that made it 3-1 Preds early in the third
- 3:27with the PPG. Second power play goal of the
- 3:29game for the Preds. Second primary power play points
- 3:32of the game for both Yossi and Stamkos after Yossi had set up
- 3:36Stamkos earlier on on a power play in the second period for
- 3:39the Preds. First goal.
- 3:41And then the only way the ABS made it a one goal game is with
- 3:45a crazy otherworldly goal by Nathan McKinnon throwing it on
- 3:50net. No look sees bank off of UC
- 3:53sorrows and in. And I don't want to call it a
- 3:55lucky goal because it's Nate McKinnon and he meant to do that
- 3:58and it was unreal. But that was, as Pete Weber
- 4:02would say, a goal that he pulled out of his keister.
- 4:04And then the Preds hit two empty netters to finish off A52 win
- 4:07against the ABS on Saturday. I don't want to highlight
- 4:12anybody outside of the Nashville Predators, but Nathan McKinnon
- 4:15does things on the ice, Max, that sometimes I am just in awe
- 4:18of watching him. But one thing about them, it's
- 4:22really it's it's down to McKinnon and Mccarr for the apps
- 4:25right now. I mean, that's a team riddled
- 4:27with injuries and they have the star power seemingly step up.
- 4:31But I have to ask you to talk about Pete Weber.
- 4:33How much did he love pronouncing Ivan Ivan?
- 4:37Hey, the man so nice they named him the same thing twice.
- 4:43The only player in the National Hockey League with the same
- 4:45first and last name. That's awesome.
- 4:47Yeah. I think some of our guys should
- 4:49start doing that. How Guild becomes Hal, Hal,
- 4:52Chris Mason becomes Mace. Mace and Jay Moore, Would he be
- 4:57JJ or more? More.
- 5:01I feel like JJ, but then that just sounds like a first name
- 5:04like Ivan Ivan. That's true.
- 5:06Well, Jay does introduce himself to everyone as Jason, which is
- 5:10his full first name, but he's Jay.
- 5:13But he's Jay. He's Jay, so we'll see what the
- 5:15ABS look like when the Preds see them again on Monday.
- 5:18They are on both ends of this seven games and 12 days stretch.
- 5:21Preds do get a win against a short handed division rival in
- 5:25the Avalanche. And then the week did not go so
- 5:28great from there. The Preds have lost three in a
- 5:30row since that win on home ice on a Saturday night in
- 5:32Smashville. They were shut out on Monday
- 5:35night against the Kings. Darcy Kemper pitched the shutout
- 5:38against the Predators, who had just 16 shots on goal in the
- 5:42game in a three nothing loss. They did not get a shot in the
- 5:46third period until after they pulled the goalie with under 5
- 5:50minutes left trailing 1. Nothing at the start of the
- 5:52third. Gave up a goal on the 1st shift
- 5:55of the third period to former Pred Kevin Fiala and Andrew
- 5:59Brunette. Felt like they did not have the
- 6:01effort on that shift, on that rebound and then it got
- 6:05contagious and they didn't get a shot on goal in a game where
- 6:08they should have been trying to come back.
- 6:11I feel like if you were to recap that game Max, and look at the
- 6:14second period, when you see on the score sheet that Luke Shen
- 6:18fought Tanner Jeno and Ryan O'Reilly had just his second
- 6:22fighting major of his career, you would think how do the
- 6:25Predators not come out and win this game?
- 6:27It's a one goal game. You get the crowd into it.
- 6:30People were going crazy. I mean, that's a heavyweight
- 6:33tilt between Shen and Jeno, but it it's just it's kind of in the
- 6:38Pred season so far. They just couldn't find a way to
- 6:42play connected and pull this one out.
- 6:44All right, Kerry, you ready for what I hope is a recurring
- 6:47segment on the POP that we're going to, we're going to call it
- 6:51Fight Confidential. We have inside info on both of
- 6:55these fights. This is the type of reporting
- 6:58that I bring to you. So 2 fights in the second
- 7:00period, Preds were down 1, nothing, just trying to show any
- 7:03life whatsoever. So on an early shift in the
- 7:05second period, Tanner Jeno rocked Luke Shen over the
- 7:09Dashers into the King's Bench. Awesome hit by Jeno.
- 7:13We've seen it before when he was on the Preds, Shen got smoked
- 7:17and he knew it. So then out of the next TV time
- 7:19out, both of them are coming on the ice.
- 7:21These are two guys who know each other.
- 7:23They're 10 years apart in age, little bit less, but they're
- 7:26both from Saskatchewan. Luke Shen, one of the most
- 7:30veteran, beloved players from that province, Tanner Jano from
- 7:34Oxbow, the Oxbow Ox going up against the big city boy from
- 7:38Saskatoon, Luke Shen. They've skated together before,
- 7:41they've fought before, they've had confrontations before, but
- 7:44they they are friends and there's a lot of respect off the
- 7:46ice, especially from the younger Jano to the older Shen.
- 7:50That's how the hockey guys work. So out of the TV time out,
- 7:53they're lining up next to each other for the face off.
- 7:56Shen asked Jano, you want to go? Jano literally looks up at the
- 8:01scoreboard, sees the score as one.
- 8:04Nothing. Luke looks back at Luke and says
- 8:06no, and then Luke Shen says no, we got to go.
- 8:10He pulled the veteran card and Tanner Jano obliged and Luke
- 8:14Shen got the win. That is a tough fight to win,
- 8:17but when Luke Shen starts throwing lefts, nobody knows how
- 8:20to fight a lefty. I mean, that was one of those
- 8:25when the guys were going at it. I mean, obviously a huge fan of
- 8:28Tanner Juno, loved him in Nashville, would love to see him
- 8:30back in a Predator sweater one day.
- 8:33It's kind of like who, who, who's the dog in the fight here?
- 8:36We work with the whole team, but you love Tanner Juno, you loved
- 8:39Luke Shen, you wanted to just be like a good show for everybody.
- 8:43I was more impressed, though, when I saw Zach LaRue starting
- 8:46to chirp Tanner Juno later in that period.
- 8:50You know, you kind of think a little bit, hey, rookie, I don't
- 8:52know if you want any of this smoke.
- 8:53Yeah, watch yourself, young little compared to Tanner Jano
- 8:57fella, but yeah, that was fun. They're giving each other a
- 9:00couple pokes back and forth. But yeah, a little Sasky fight
- 9:03Luke, Jen and Tanner Jano. And I said to Luke when I was
- 9:06asking about this the day after the game, hey, you had to get
- 9:09back in the win column after your first fight in the year.
- 9:11And I'm not going to divulge too much information.
- 9:14I'll talk about it again if it comes up when the Preds play the
- 9:17Bruins again in March. Shen was really unhappy with his
- 9:23first fight of the year, not because he lost it, but because
- 9:26of something that Mark Castellick from the Bruins did
- 9:29that influenced the outcome of the fight.
- 9:31I'm not going to say everything, but Shen was not happy about
- 9:34that and he made-up for in a big way with a big decisive,
- 9:38unanimous decision over Tanner Janelle.
- 9:41Do we have any insider information on the Ryan O'Reilly
- 9:44Belt? We have some fun stuff.
- 9:46So this is, this whole thing is so funny to me.
- 9:51First of all, Ryan O'Reilly has played sixteen seasons over 1000
- 9:55regular season NHL games and had never been in a fight in a
- 9:59regular season NHL game before. Which first of all is nuts
- 10:03because like he's a grinder. Yeah, he's a top line guy, but
- 10:06he's a hard nosed player. He gets in there.
- 10:08You would think especially early in his career in Buffalo when he
- 10:12was on some bad teams and he was the best forward on those teams,
- 10:16you would think he ran into somebody and it's like, my God,
- 10:19let's go. Like we're going to fight.
- 10:21This guy will fight me. So I was shocked that he had not
- 10:24fought in a regular season game before.
- 10:25But here's what happened in this fight.
- 10:27Then I'm going to tell you about the last fight, which was in the
- 10:29playoffs, his only other NHL fight.
- 10:32So this fight dirty hit. Kyle Burrows, King defenceman,
- 10:35knee on knee, textbook illegal hit.
- 10:37He did get a penalty for kneeing.
- 10:40Gus Nyquist goes down, Ryan O'Reilly peels around, sees that
- 10:43Nyquist is hurt, goes right up to Burrows, drops the gloves.
- 10:46We're going. And O'Reilly won the fight
- 10:48decisively and I thought performed very well.
- 10:51He said his fists are OK, by the way, no injury there, so don't
- 10:54have to worry about that. But he jumped right in,
- 10:57protected his teammate. Nyquist did say before the game
- 11:00against the Caps on Wednesday on Preds radio that he owes
- 11:04O'Reilly a fight. So maybe if O'Reilly ever takes
- 11:07a dirty hit, we'll get Gus Nyquist dropping the gloves,
- 11:10which who knows how that'll go. But yeah, Gus said he owes him.
- 11:13So O'Reilly defending his teammate at a time when
- 11:16everybody on the Preds was PO D and I think he did the right
- 11:19thing. I I think he raised everybody up
- 11:20a little bit and he certainly won the fight.
- 11:23He said he only had one other NHL fight.
- 11:26I I just wanted to confirm with him that there were in others
- 11:29that we missed 'cause like I said, I was so surprised.
- 11:31But on hockeyfights.com, they had him down for one.
- 11:34It was in the playoffs two seasons ago when he was a trade
- 11:38deadline rental for the Maple Leafs.
- 11:41They're playing against the Lightning.
- 11:43There was a dirty hit, Morgan Riley hit and injured Braden
- 11:46Point. And then we had two fights
- 11:49happening after the whistle with some major star power 2 fights
- 11:54going at once, Ryan O'Reilly against Nikita Kucherov and
- 11:59Austin Matthews against Steven Stamkos.
- 12:07It was unreal. Go watch it on YouTube or on
- 12:10hockeyfights.com. And the other funny part about
- 12:13it to me is that Luke Shen was on the ice for the Maple Leafs
- 12:16and here all the superstars are chucking them instead of Shen.
- 12:21Oh my gosh, this is the best insider information.
- 12:24Insane. Yeah, this is by far the most
- 12:26interesting stuff in hockey. But yeah, that was Ryan
- 12:29O'reilly's only other NHL fight. It was recent and it was in the
- 12:33playoffs where nobody ever fights and it was just a
- 12:35superstar fight across the board.
- 12:37I mean, O'Reilly would readily admit that he is by far the
- 12:42lesser of the four players involved in those fights.
- 12:45Stamkos, Matthews, Kucharov, all fighting at once.
- 12:50And O'Reilly happily in that group of superstars as a top six
- 12:54forward himself getting in there.
- 12:56And Stamkos got Matthews, he got him good in the other fight that
- 13:01was going on. That's wild.
- 13:04But I think back, if you tie it back into into Ryan fighting in
- 13:09that game against the Kings, he's trying to set an example,
- 13:12right? He's a leader on this team.
- 13:14There's still a lot of young guys.
- 13:16They're still trying to find their rhythm.
- 13:18I asked Philip about this post game actually.
- 13:20You know, what does it mean to you when it's Ryan O'Reilly
- 13:23dropping the gloves and he was like it.
- 13:25It just makes you want to get into it, just proves what type
- 13:28of teammate he is. But one word after that night
- 13:31was frustration, and we heard a lot of it from Bruno.
- 13:35Yeah, we've sensed it for a while and we just can't seem to
- 13:38to correct it and, and get over it.
- 13:43I think we talked with, I think I've talked about it enough here
- 13:46over the last couple weeks about how it's, you know, it's a
- 13:50dangerous emotion and it's getting the best of us and it's
- 13:53kind of unfortunately leaked through almost the whole team.
- 13:57And frustration plays tricks on you.
- 14:01Frustration makes you think you're actually working when
- 14:03you're not working. Frustration actually makes you a
- 14:07poor teammate. Frustration is contagious.
- 14:13So those are some pretty bad things and and that's kind of
- 14:16leaked through our group right now.
- 14:18And the frustration continues. Max, I mean, going out on the
- 14:23road. We talked about this after the
- 14:24game against the Kings at home, and Bruno felt like, hey, a road
- 14:28trip is a good change of pace. It's a time to reset, refocus.
- 14:33And the Prez just couldn't seem to find a way again against the
- 14:38Washington Capitals. Yeah.
- 14:40First of all, I will start this conversation by saying the
- 14:43Capitals look really, really good.
- 14:46This is this is a potential division title contender in the
- 14:49Metro going up with the Rangers. I think the way they look right
- 14:52now, they're getting goaltending too, from their two backwards
- 14:55goalies, Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren.
- 14:58I don't know if you heard Kara Will Willie said he dropped his
- 15:00stat on TVI dropped it on radio as well.
- 15:03And I, I like to think there are a lot of people out there who
- 15:06happen to catch both Willie and I saying the same things at
- 15:09different times during the game and realizing that we are
- 15:12comparing notes and sharing information.
- 15:14So a shout out to anybody who's timing that up to hear them
- 15:16both. But Logan Thompson, formerly of
- 15:19the Golden Knights, now on the Capitals, is the second Caps
- 15:22goalie to start his tenure with the franchise. 6 and O the other
- 15:26one Preds legend. Another backwards right-handed
- 15:29goalie catching glove Tomas Vokun in 2011.
- 15:34So any shout out for Voki we can get, we're giving.
- 15:36Going into that night, it was kind of sad that there was going
- 15:40to be some lineup changes. We weren't sure.
- 15:41We thought Luke Evangelista might be a healthy scratch going
- 15:44into that night, but Tommy Novak was actually, I guess, injured.
- 15:50Upper body enlisted day-to-day, and we saw Van come back into
- 15:54the lineup. Some last minute shuffling in
- 15:57both games of this road. Back-to-back this week for the
- 16:00Preds. And yeah, that one was an
- 16:02interesting one. Luke Evangelista was told in the
- 16:04morning that he would be a healthy scratch for the first
- 16:06time this season and just the third time in his three NHL
- 16:11season so far, and they want to send a message.
- 16:14Evangelista has not yet scored a goal against a goalie this year.
- 16:17He has one goal and it's an empty net goal through at that
- 16:20time, 12 games this season. So he was supposed to sit and
- 16:25then he ended up playing. He did take warm up as the extra
- 16:28forward. Preds always will dress an extra
- 16:30forward for warmups in situations like this.
- 16:33Novak unexpectedly unable to go so he's scratched, comes out.
- 16:37Evangelista does end up playing and they have to shuffle all the
- 16:41centers around to make all of this work.
- 16:43So Yuso Parsonen, who was supposed to be the third line
- 16:46left wing, goes to center and we assemble what we are now calling
- 16:50the last minute line of the 23 and younger Preds, Yuso Parsonen
- 16:55in between Luke Evangelista and Phil Tomasino.
- 16:57Tomasino and Parsonen had been scratched for a combined 13
- 17:01games in a row coming into this week, and Evangelista was
- 17:04supposed to be a healthy scratch for that game.
- 17:07Then the three of them go out there together and score a goal
- 17:10on their first shift together. Unreal.
- 17:13They're awake now. They're they're away.
- 17:16And one thing I like too, was Stampos was playing with Phil.
- 17:19He was able to get on the board. But Max highlight of the
- 17:21Washington Capitals game, that penalty kill.
- 17:24I mean the Preds were perfect, 6 for six on the night.
- 17:28Yeah, it was impressive. The Preds now have the number
- 17:30one ranked penalty kill in the NHL.
- 17:33They unfortunately had to kill over 20 minutes of PK time on
- 17:38this trip. Too much, way, way too much for
- 17:42two games, but they were successful, killing off 9
- 17:44minutes of penalty kill time against Alex Ovechkin in the
- 17:47Capitals PK. All five goals in this game were
- 17:50five on five goals, including goals by Yuso Parsonen and
- 17:53Steven Stamkos for the Predators.
- 17:55Those two guys were actually the Preds goal scorers in both games
- 17:58of the back-to-back, coincidentally enough, and the
- 18:02Preds end up losing three to two.
- 18:04Both teams got a goal in each of the 1st 2 periods.
- 18:06The only goal of the 3rd and Alex Ovechkin one timer from
- 18:10Dylan Strom behind the net to Ovechkin in the right circle.
- 18:14I got to say I got a little bit of a chill of a goosebump
- 18:17getting to call an Alex Ovechkin goal.
- 18:19I I had announced him scoring an empty netter before against the
- 18:22Preds Kara, but it is unbelievable how likable Alex
- 18:26Ovechkin has become this late in his career, his 20th season.
- 18:29He's now 33 goals behind Wayne Gretzky for the all time regular
- 18:33season NHL scoring title and he's getting it done.
- 18:37He's having an amazing start to the season and the Caps look
- 18:39awesome wearing his favorite jersey, the black Screaming
- 18:42Eagle. They it was the first time this
- 18:44season they'd worn those. They were their reverse retros
- 18:46two years ago. According to the media in DC,
- 18:51they've worn those jerseys 8 times.
- 18:53Ovechkin has scored in all eight games.
- 18:57So do you think they just find 33 more games?
- 19:01To. Wear in the Screaming Eagle
- 19:03jersey. I will give them this.
- 19:04It is a beautiful, beautiful kick.
- 19:07Yeah, I'm over the red. The red of the Caps does not do
- 19:10anything for me. I think you go back to the the
- 19:13black and the blue that Andrew Brunette wore in his NHL debut
- 19:16for the Capitals in the 90s before the Preds came into
- 19:19existence. But yeah, the Caps look good
- 19:21right now. Connor McMichael is red hot.
- 19:23He's a teammate of Luke Evangelistas and juniors with
- 19:26the London Knights. He's already halfway to his
- 19:29career high goal total in a month.
- 19:31Oh. Wow.
- 19:33Yeah, so the Preds will see the caps one more time, but let him
- 19:37cool off a little bit before Jay Moore's boy Nikki Dowd.
- 19:39I can I call out Jay Moore? Is that allowed?
- 19:43Yeah, yeah. Yeah, Jay, I have something to
- 19:45say and I haven't told him this, but I'll tell him this tomorrow.
- 19:48So Jay Moore and I always joke on the post game show 'cause he
- 19:50coached Nick Dowd from the Capitals in a couple of teenage
- 19:53All Star teams. Dowd is from Huntsville, AL
- 19:56Southern hockey. Awesome story, total development
- 19:59story. Undrafted, went to Saint Cloud
- 20:01State in Minnesota. Four year college player, excuse
- 20:05me, He was drafted. He was a seventh round pick.
- 20:07Now he's 34 years old on his fourth team at 10 plus year NHL
- 20:13veteran. He's had an unreal career.
- 20:15But this guy? Sneaks on the ice after every
- 20:19icing. His team commits and the refs
- 20:22don't notice. How does he get away with this?
- 20:26Because the refs have no idea what they're doing.
- 20:29But I'll let Jay be the one to tell you that on every single
- 20:32post game show because Jay Moore absolutely loves NHL
- 20:35officiating. But yeah, if I can tell from up
- 20:38high, like, come on, people. But we do love Nick Dowd.
- 20:42He's a great player, great fourth line center, but just
- 20:45don't do it against us. Nikki D.
- 20:47Well, now Max W, you'll have to, you'll have to get get a hold of
- 20:51somebody down there. Yeah, yeah, I'll, I'll have my
- 20:56people talk to nobody. I have no connections.
- 21:00You have. People, I have people.
- 21:01UC Soros was amazing in this game.
- 21:03He deserved a better fate. Predators lose to the Caps 32IN
- 21:06regulation on Wednesday night. Just more good stuff from Juice
- 21:10and then a tough back-to-back long travel against another hot
- 21:14team, the Panthers, who had won five in a row and had had a long
- 21:17rest coming back from Finland, where they swept the stars in
- 21:22two Global Series games this weekend.
- 21:24Panthers are atop the Eastern Conference and they crush the
- 21:28Preds on Thursday night. Probably the worst performance
- 21:31of the season for the Preds. In a season where there have
- 21:33already been some major stinkers, They lost six to two.
- 21:37The Predators had 9 even strength shots on goal in the
- 21:40entire game. They had just 4 even strength
- 21:43shots on goal in the 1st 2 periods.
- 21:46Yeah, really. Nothing good to say about this
- 21:48one Kara. This was hopefully a low point,
- 21:50but who knows. Yeah, I think it goes back to to
- 21:55the frustration and the the guys really just, you know, Mace kept
- 22:00talking about on the broadcast last night.
- 22:01No, nobody feels sorry for themselves.
- 22:03You know, they're they're kind of fighting an uphill battle
- 22:06right now. It's got check time and I think
- 22:09they just need to find a way to get out there and enjoy playing
- 22:11hockey and yeah, you know, play together, play connected.
- 22:16If if relentless was the word last season, I think connected.
- 22:19It needs to be the one this season.
- 22:21As we enter the weekend in the Preds host Utah on Saturday
- 22:24night, Nashville is in sole possession of last place in the
- 22:28entire NHL standings. They are the only team in the
- 22:31NHL still with single digit points, 9 standings points at
- 22:354-9 and one through 14 games So far.
- 22:38Not the best. A really poor effort on
- 22:42Thursday. And Kara.
- 22:43We've recapped 4 games that happened in six days here, which
- 22:47is a tough situation for anybody.
- 22:49But these four games under score 1 of the major shortcomings of
- 22:53the Pred season. They cannot play 2 good efforts
- 22:57in a row. There have not been two
- 22:59competent competitive performances in a row by the
- 23:02Preds this season, and this week was a perfect example of that.
- 23:06Saturday they played well enough to win, beat the ABS.
- 23:08Monday they generated nothing against the Kings and got shut
- 23:11out. Wednesday they were competitive
- 23:13with the Capitals, came up one goal short, but did a lot of
- 23:16things well and made some improvements, and their goalie
- 23:18was great. And then Thursday, even worse
- 23:21than Monday, barely putting the puck on net against the Panthers
- 23:24in a game that they trailed almost immediately and never
- 23:27were close in. I think one of the things Max,
- 23:31is they're just spending too much time on the perimeter.
- 23:33They've really lost their inside game.
- 23:35And I think once they get that back and are able to to get to
- 23:39the net and find out what worked for them well last season,
- 23:42things will start clicking. It's just I don't think you can
- 23:45really put your finger on kind of why they can't string two
- 23:47wins together. But something's got to change.
- 23:51Yep, quite a few somethings will have to change and the Preds
- 23:53will be home for one game on Saturday night, November 9th
- 23:56against the Utah Hockey Club, formerly the Arizona Coyotes,
- 24:00who will play the Preds for the first time ever.
- 24:03Connor Ingram having a great season and goal for I was about
- 24:07to say, the Yoats they are. I guess the utes Can I get away
- 24:10with that, Kara? But but the Utah Utes is is the
- 24:14the college team. They are.
- 24:16Really. Call them that.
- 24:17I'm borrowing. They don't have a name yet.
- 24:20I know, but I need. I need something plural to run
- 24:22with the. I don't even know what a Utah is
- 24:29like a Idaho is an Idahoan. Right, I think it's a.
- 24:32Wyomingite. What's a Utah?
- 24:34Wyomingite. Wow.
- 24:36I think it's AI think you literally just put an N on the
- 24:39end of Utah and it's Utahn. Utahn.
- 24:44It's Utahn, yeah. It's a Utahn.
- 24:47Yeah, I have no idea how to pronounce it, but I think that
- 24:50is what it is. But I'm going to keep going
- 24:53with. Youth, Somebody from Utah is
- 24:54listening. Please try.
- 24:55Please tweet us, yeah. What you.
- 24:58Are at maxers what you are? Who are you?
- 25:00Who do you play for? Utah?
- 25:04But yeah, they'll be here. Feds did not fare well against
- 25:07the Coyotes the last couple seasons against Nick Schmaltz,
- 25:10Clayton Keller, the snap it around boys.
- 25:13So we will see how the Preds do. Utah is on the final game of a
- 25:17four-game road trip that has lasted more than a week.
- 25:20They lost in overtime in Las Vegas last Saturday.
- 25:25They got shut out in Winnipeg on Tuesday and then they had a good
- 25:28effort Thursday night against the Blues in a four two win.
- 25:31They are 500 so far this year. Preds get their first look at
- 25:35Utah on Saturday night in Smashville and Hockey Fights
- 25:38Cancer Night first of two Hockey Fights Cancer Nights this
- 25:41season, benefiting the Monroe Carroll Junior Children's
- 25:43Hospital at Vanderbilt. As always, we have plenty more
- 25:46details on how you can get involved in everything that will
- 25:49be going on as we pink and lavender out the rink.
- 25:52Wear your lavender. If you have any lavender purple
- 25:55Preds gear from years past, hockey Fights cancer or just
- 25:57anything lavender in your closet, wear it to the game on
- 26:00Saturday to support those fighting cancer who have beaten
- 26:03cancer and to remember those who we have lost to cancer.
- 26:06We'll play about everything going on for Hockey fights
- 26:08cancer night on Saturday coming up next and get you ready for
- 26:11some other things going on around Smashville over the next
- 26:14few weeks as the Predators hit the road after that to start a
- 26:17two week long 5 game road trip to Colorado, Edmonton, Calgary,
- 26:22Vancouver and Seattle. She is Gary Hammer from Preds
- 26:25TV. She's a Coloradan.
- 26:28I'm Max Herz from Preds Radio. This is the Predators official
- 26:32podcast. You're on ESPN.
- 26:33One O 2 five and one O 6 three the game.
- 26:47Oh, why you got to be so cold, Why you got to go and cut me
- 26:55like a knife and put our love on eyes.
- 27:03Welcome back to the Predators official podcast here on your
- 27:06exclusive radio home for Preds hockey.
- 27:09This is ESPN1O25 and one O 6 three the game.
- 27:13My name is Max hers from Predators Radio along with Kara
- 27:16Hammer from Predators TV. And Kara for the first time
- 27:20ever, I am right about the demonym of people from Utah.
- 27:26It is Utah, it's just Utah with an N at the end.
- 27:33A a person from Utah is a Utah. I knew it wasn't.
- 27:38I knew it wasn't a Ute. The Ute is an Indian tribe and
- 27:42that's where the mascot name comes from.
- 27:44But I, I like Ute for what we're going to call the team until
- 27:47they officially become something else next season.
- 27:51Yeah, I'm curious. I felt like they were leaning
- 27:54towards going to be a Yeti, right?
- 27:56What? I think that's their front.
- 27:58Runner Yeah, I think they've made it clear that they are
- 28:00doing that. They just have to get all the
- 28:01trademarking done. I kind of just like it simple
- 28:06Utah hockey clubs. I don't know, maybe that's
- 28:08boring. Maybe people need like a mascot
- 28:10and something to get behind. But I feel like it.
- 28:12It's just a clean classic line. It just, it feels, I don't know,
- 28:17I like it. I think it's cool for one year,
- 28:19but I I will say with the Washington Football Team, now
- 28:24that they have changed, it makes me miss Washington Football
- 28:27team. But I think Yetis will be a lot
- 28:29cooler than Commanders. I mean, yetis are pretty cool.
- 28:33Yeah, yetis are awesome. Have you ever seen a Yeti?
- 28:36I've been on a Disneyland Friday with the Yetis.
- 28:40Well, there you go. And I like my Yeti.
- 28:44Well, yeah, that may have something to do with their trade
- 28:47marking issues. Your Yeti cooler or cup,
- 28:50whatever it is. Would that be like their
- 28:51sponsor? I don't know.
- 28:53Yeah, Seattle Kraken are sponsored by Kraken Rum, so
- 28:57there's a way to make it work out there.
- 28:59But yeah, not our problem. The division rival Utah hockey
- 29:02club will be here on Saturday night in Smashville November
- 29:059th. Many of you are listening to
- 29:06this podcast on that Saturday morning here on one O 25 the
- 29:09game. So hope to see you for the Preds
- 29:12and the Utahns Utahns on Saturday night in Smashville.
- 29:20I still can't do it the. UHC, the Utah Hockey.
- 29:23The UHCUHCFC against Nashville SC No against Nashville
- 29:28Predators HC on Saturday night. Smashville the game's at 7.
- 29:32Radio pregame coverage will start at six.
- 29:34TV pregame coverage will start at 6:30 with Kara Hammer and the
- 29:38whole crew. It is the first of two Hockey
- 29:40Fights Cancer Nights here in Smashville for the game against
- 29:44Utah. Hockey Fights Cancer Nights, as
- 29:46always, are benefiting the Monroe Carroll Junior Children's
- 29:50Hospital at Vanderbilt in conjunction with the 365
- 29:53Pediatric Cancer Fund. It is well timed as Shay Weber
- 29:57will go into the Hockey Hall of Fame at the end of this weekend.
- 30:01Technically, on Monday will be the day of the induction up in
- 30:04Toronto. Our Brooks Bratton will be
- 30:06there. We will talk with him about it
- 30:08afterward. But Shay Weber and Pecorine
- 30:10started the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund.
- 30:14Their jersey numbers are the three, the six and the five.
- 30:17Shay Weber, number six, pecorine #35.
- 30:20So fitting timing for all of this.
- 30:22And the Predators are working to raise $36,500 three hundred 6500
- 30:28for the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund.
- 30:31And our friends at AstraZeneca in conjunction with the NHL have
- 30:34committed to matching the first $10,000 raised for Hockey Fights
- 30:38Cancer. Go to
- 30:39nashvillepredators.com/hockey Fights Cancer to donate from
- 30:43afar on your computer or your phone.
- 30:46We do have some other ways to donate and things you can
- 30:49purchase for a donation. In the arena there will be
- 30:52Hockey Fights Cancer mini sticks, mystery pucks, foam
- 30:56pucks where you can write who you fight for, who's battling
- 30:58cancer or you've lost a cancer or a survived cancer.
- 31:02Plus Hockey Fights Cancer bracelets.
- 31:04Those will be at the Predators Foundation table on the 100
- 31:07level of Bridgestone Arena behind Section One O 7.
- 31:11At the Preds Foundation table. You can also text to bid in the
- 31:15silent auction with the pregame player jerseys, which again,
- 31:19cannot be worn during warmups because of a ridiculous NHL
- 31:22rule. But text Preds to 76278 to bid
- 31:26whether you're at the game or not.
- 31:27You can also go see the sweaters at the foundation table.
- 31:30There will also be multiple areas where you can get I fight
- 31:34for signs throughout the game at the foundation table on the 100
- 31:38level, upstairs at the fan information desk by section 331
- 31:43on the 300 level, also in the Lexus Lounge and outside the
- 31:47arena on the Plaza at the corner of 5th and Broadway if you go
- 31:51into the arena at the main entrance.
- 31:52So a lot of ways to get involved, a lot of ways to
- 31:55donate. The Predators will also be
- 31:57presenting their check to the Monroe Carroll Junior Children's
- 32:00Hospital before the game in conjunction with a ceremonial
- 32:03puck drop of childhood cancer patients from Monroe Carroll at
- 32:06Vanderbilt. The donation care over $250,000
- 32:10from last season for hockey fights cancer.
- 32:12Wow. That's incredible.
- 32:15Some other cool things that will be at the game.
- 32:17This is the words of the Preds Foundation.
- 32:20All caps. I quote massive, all caps.
- 32:26Massive bell for cancer survivors to ring on the main
- 32:30concourse. We've all seen those videos and
- 32:32cried many times that cancer survivors completing their
- 32:35treatment and ringing the bell in the hospital in their
- 32:38treatment center. There will be a bell for you to
- 32:39ring if you are a cancer survivor at Bridgestone Arena.
- 32:42Another big one, Kara Buddy, the miniature horse from Angel Heart
- 32:47Farm, will be in attendance. Buddy.
- 32:51I know you're a big buddy fan and I wish your baby girl Remy
- 32:54would be at the game tomorrow as she is a cowpoke herself.
- 32:58She is, and she loves many horses.
- 33:01And we could get our Roper from last year, rider Kisner Kisner
- 33:08from Wyoming to come and ride the miniature horse.
- 33:12I don't think he rides many horses.
- 33:13I think he rides big horses. But there'll be lots of hockey
- 33:16fights. Cancer merch for sale.
- 33:18For the second year in a row, the Predators are partnering
- 33:20with the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, which is also involved
- 33:24at Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
- 33:26You can get your cheek swab to see if you are eligible to be a
- 33:30bone marrow donor and become the hero who we see at Hockey Fights
- 33:34Cancer Night Every year. A cancer survivor meets their
- 33:37life saving bone marrow donor for the first time at the game,
- 33:41and literally everyone in the arena cries.
- 33:44Yeah, it's one of the coolest moments.
- 33:45I love that the press do this, the foundation puts this on.
- 33:49I mean, it literally is like one of the coolest things you could
- 33:53ever witness. Yeah.
- 33:55And it's it's something that thankfully a lot of us never
- 33:57have to think about. But it's important for everyone
- 33:59to know that this is something that happens and something that
- 34:02saves lives for everyone as well.
- 34:04So hockey fights cancer night in Smashville.
- 34:06Be wearing our lavender ties, thinking of everybody fighting
- 34:09cancer out there at Smashville. We love you.
- 34:10We're with, you know, a lot of you guys, a lot of fans are
- 34:13going through cancer out of treatment and hockey is fighting
- 34:17cancer with you and we fight for you.
- 34:18So we'll see if any preds will fight on the ice as we hockey
- 34:22fight cancer this week. A lot of fight talk on the show
- 34:24today. We are with you guys in the
- 34:26fight against cancer. Couple other things we want you
- 34:28guys to know about over the next few weeks.
- 34:30The next Predators official watch party is this coming
- 34:33Thursday night for the game against the Oilers.
- 34:36That is Thursday night November 14th.
- 34:38The game is at 8:00 show up early.
- 34:40The watch party is at Assembly Food Hall and 5th and Broadway
- 34:43right across from Bridgestone Arena.
- 34:45The games at 8. The funds will start around 7
- 34:47with Wayne D and DJ Battle Pres Energy team.
- 34:50Maybe even Nash will be there. I don't know if Nash will be
- 34:53there. I think he's usually there, but
- 34:54I will be in Edmonton so I will not be there.
- 34:58I will be watching, I will be at home watching, I will be rooting
- 35:02and I hope that things just turn out well for the preds on the
- 35:05road. And we'll let you know when the
- 35:06next Preds official watch party is at Cara Hammer's house.
- 35:08But it's not there yet. One other thing, if you have
- 35:11kids, the Scott Hamilton Learned to Skate program is back
- 35:16presented by Cat Financial. It's the number one learn to
- 35:18skate program in the South. The program is for all youth and
- 35:21also for adults interested in wanting to get out on the ice
- 35:24for the first time. Whether it's hockey, skating,
- 35:26figure skating, you know Scott Hamilton's name is on it.
- 35:29He can teach you how to figure skate one of the greatest Figure

- 35:37You can visit nashvillepredators.com/learn to
- 35:41skatenashvillepredators.com/learn to Skate is how you can get
- 35:45involved in the Scott Hamilton Learn to Skate program.
- 35:48We love Scott Kara. It is it is unreal that we have
- 35:52him as a Smashville resident and involved as much with the Preds
- 35:56as he is. And he literally is just one of
- 35:58the nicest people ever. We've had him on the podcast.
- 36:02My Remy's grandma was diagnosed with cancer.
- 36:06And we were talking to Scott Hamilton about his, his, you
- 36:09know, his diagnosis and his struggle and how he was over to
- 36:12comment and how he's been giving back.
- 36:14And I had mentioned that Remy's grandma was just diagnosed, and
- 36:18the words that he said, Max, were just so kind and so honest
- 36:22and he just really is a great person.
- 36:25Yeah, what an exceptional person, an exceptional man, an
- 36:28exceptional American, an exceptional athlete and honestly
- 36:31someone who could be in politics and be very successful there if
- 36:34you wanted to. So Nashville predators.com/learn
- 36:37to Skate is how you can get involved in the Scott Hamilton
- 36:40Skating Academy. They are taking registrations

- 36:53anniversary. Skating sessions for new

- 37:02It's for both kids and adults. So make that happen.
- 37:05We'll come back. We'll play for you our interview
- 37:07of the week and we'll wrap up the show.
- 37:09She's Cara Hammer from Preds TV. I'm Max hers from Preds radio.
- 37:13You are listening to the Predators official podcast here
- 37:15on One O 25 The Game. Welcome back to the Predators
- 37:42official podcast here on ESPN 102.5.
- 37:45The game. My name is Max Hers along with
- 37:48Kara Hammer to wrap up the show here.
- 37:51Kara, I was listening to a ton of old Wall A this week in DC.
- 37:54Wall A's from DC, That song with Lady Gaga remixing.
- 37:59Nah, Nah, hey, hey, goodbye holds up 15 years old.
- 38:03It's a banger, you. Love it, you love.
- 38:05It yeah, shout out to Wale. He makes good music.
- 38:07I missed him in Smashville during a road preseason game.
- 38:11Come back Wale, I'm ready to see you live.
- 38:14Time for our interview of the week and it's with Preds rookie
- 38:1721 year old Zach LaRue who is getting oh so close care to his
- 38:21first NHL goal. He had a couple that he just
- 38:24missed this week, one on A2 on one.
- 38:26Monday against the Kings he was barely stopped by Darcy Kemper
- 38:29going low glove. And then Wednesday against the
- 38:32Capitals, also A2 on one, also coming down the left wing side,
- 38:37tried to go high glove, short side shelf on Logan Thompson,
- 38:43the backwards goalie. And how Gill was drooling over
- 38:47this shot, how he changed the angle of his top hand, looked
- 38:49like he was going far side, came back near side.
- 38:53He ripped it. He hit the post.
- 38:56I think he hit where the post meets the crossbar.
- 39:00And it went up and out. And I asked LaRue about it the
- 39:03next day. That was probably the hardest
- 39:05shot I think I took in my life. So I was, I was just shocked
- 39:09when that didn't go in. I was, I was really hoping it
- 39:11would, you know, go bar South and not bar N But again, that's
- 39:15part of the game. I think I've been getting a lot
- 39:17more looks over the last few games.
- 39:18And you know, I'm feeling confident making.
- 39:20Plays so I know it's it's only a matter of time now that's Zach
- 39:23LaRue Cara bar down a classic item of hockey lingo, bar down
- 39:28ski etcetera. Now we've got from Zach LaRue
- 39:31the new Age lingo Bar South and Bar N That one unfortunately
- 39:36went Bar N off the cross bar and out of play, not Bar South.
- 39:41I feel like now we're going to have to have like a LaRue
- 39:44Evangelista segment where we're hearing from the rookies, you
- 39:47know, the lingo that keeps us in the game.
- 39:51Yeah, well, did you see Alex Doherty did tweet this a couple
- 39:54weeks ago? And LaRue had talked about it
- 39:56before that on Smashville Live on his debut episode when he
- 40:00came out for his hot lap in his NHL debut, his first shot.
- 40:03Like you're supposed to go top cheese on your first shot on
- 40:06your hot lap, which is what you do in warmups anyway.
- 40:08Players are practicing shooting to specific places.
- 40:11LaRue completely whipped on it and it just slithered right down
- 40:15the middle on the ice into the middle of the net.
- 40:19And apparently he got a lot of crap for it in the locker room.
- 40:22And Luke Evangelista commented on Larue's Instagram, posting a
- 40:26picture of his NHL debut. First, first guy ever to go
- 40:31bottom cheese on his hot lap. So we now know there is an
- 40:34opposite of top cheese. It's bottom cheese.
- 40:37Bottom. Cheese.
- 40:38Bottom cheese. But as LaRue said in that quote,
- 40:41he thought it was the hardest wrist shot he ever took in his
- 40:43life. And thanks to our friends at the
- 40:45NHL Edge and the NHL Advanced Stats, which we are fortunate to
- 40:49see during the game and give to you in different forms on the
- 40:52broadcast. I had said as soon as it
- 40:54happened it was an 83 mile an hour wrister, which is pretty
- 40:58Dang hot for a wrister. I think mid to high 80s is as
- 41:02high as you'll see for a Rister in the NHL.
- 41:04Their hardest so far this season for the Preds is Philip Forsberg
- 41:07at 85 miles an hour. And after the interview, I I
- 41:10told Zach that it Rister was 83 miles an hour and he goes no way
- 41:16confirming his suspicion that it was the hardest Rishad he had
- 41:19ever taken in his life. That's cool.
- 41:23Yeah, that's cool. He's he's going to get one.
- 41:25Yeah, he and Mark Delgaizo are racing to their first NHL goal.
- 41:28Both of them have had some major chances this week and they are
- 41:31taking it personally. Who gets it first?
- 41:33Just getting their buddies. But somebody's going to get one
- 41:36soon. Preds are going to have to start
- 41:37getting anything go and it starts this Saturday against
- 41:40Utah at Bridgestone Arena on Hockey Fights Cancer Night at
- 41:437:00, then continues on the road with A5 game road trip.
- 41:46This is a stretch of eight out of or seven out of eight.
- 41:50Excuse me, on the road for the Preds with the Country Music
- 41:53Awards at Bridstone Arena. Predators will head out West to
- 41:57Denver, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle over the
- 42:00next few weeks. We'll have podcast dispatches on
- 42:02the road coming your way. Next Tuesday or Wednesday will
- 42:05be our next episode. Thanks for listening.
