- 0:02Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:05Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:09Speaker 2: The world's a big podcasts.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 4: You know, I would like to think that the contributions,
- 0:23Speaker 4: you know, that Belichick has made matter. And I understand
- 0:26Speaker 4: Fred's point.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Maybe because I'm getting up there and I'm there, you.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Know, yeah, I've done good things. You're probably right, Brett.
- 0:34Speaker 3: But even then, they had the stripes. It was like stripes.
- 0:37Speaker 3: It's like, what is like a soccer shirt kit kit?
- 0:40Speaker 3: This is a kid I say the same thing about
- 0:42Speaker 3: pat Patriots At that time, nobody liked that damn logo.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I don't understand. Like grown men, how like they're so
- 0:49Speaker 3: infatuated by uniforms, like Mike, like this is a win,
- 0:54Speaker 3: good job. Freshmen basketball were at practice and half of
- 0:58Speaker 3: us were hung over. The other half we're sick. Brad
- 1:01Speaker 3: Kimball took a tip off and started dribbling the wrong
- 1:03Speaker 3: way down the court and I started cracking up, and
- 1:05Speaker 3: the coach kicked me out of the brass. He's the
- 1:07Speaker 3: one going.
- 1:08Speaker 5: The wrong way to coach. Things aren't going well for me.
- 1:11Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, the team does well
- 1:14Speaker 4: and you have that conflicted feeling.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's why I did individual sports. Eventually.
- 1:20Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for

- 1:55Speaker 3: So thank you Toyota. Welcome aboard, buy a Toyota.
- 2:00Speaker 4: We'll get you over the top.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Yeah, welcome to the big time.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Well you're welcome, so I can guarantee you within no,
- 2:08Speaker 3: maybe a couple of days. You'll be so sick of
- 2:10Speaker 3: that read. But anyway, we are here. It is training camp,
- 2:15Speaker 3: conditioning run today for the players. Tomorrow we will be
- 2:20Speaker 3: out live at nine fifteen at our usual perch high
- 2:25Speaker 3: above the practice fields, and we're going to bring you
- 2:27Speaker 3: the first day of camp from our perspective, as well
- 2:31Speaker 3: as Thursday and Friday and Monday, which looks to be
- 2:36Speaker 3: the first day of padded practice, so a big week
- 2:39Speaker 3: ahead of us. But here we are today. It's Deuce,
- 2:42Speaker 3: it's Paul, it's myself, Evan will be here, Tamara will
- 2:47Speaker 3: be here, Matt's in the booth, so we get a
- 2:50Speaker 3: lot to talk about, guys.
- 2:51Speaker 7: I don't know what to start with. I mean, the
- 2:53Speaker 7: last show of the offseason. It feels like we heard
- 2:54Speaker 7: from Bill this morning, signed a couple guys yesterday, so
- 2:57Speaker 7: it's all it's all coming together. I think you can
- 2:59Speaker 7: feel the segment this morning in our.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Obliminatory Navy signing, right, Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 5: How does that? How do you say that one called
- 3:06Speaker 5: for go go, thank you. I'm really trying hard on
- 3:09Speaker 5: that one.
- 3:10Speaker 7: I want to say it effortlessly and not have to
- 3:12Speaker 7: pause and make sure I got him right before I
- 3:14Speaker 7: say it.
- 3:15Speaker 4: But yeah, I hope not to have to say it,
- 3:17Speaker 4: because I know I'm going to do something wrong. Anyway,
- 3:21Speaker 4: I'm a little intrigued by the other signing. Jalen Hurd
- 3:25Speaker 4: And Yeah, I thought it was interesting listening to Bill
- 3:28Speaker 4: this morning. He was asked, Now, for those who don't know,
- 3:32Speaker 4: this is a guy who came out of high school,
- 3:35Speaker 4: a very highly rated recruit, went to Tennessee, was a
- 3:38Speaker 4: very productive running back at Tennessee, wound up transferring to Baylor,
- 3:42Speaker 4: where they really don't traditionally run the ball, They run
- 3:45Speaker 4: a spread. He became a wide receiver, and Bill said
- 3:49Speaker 4: unequivocally he will be a wide receiver, which I thought
- 3:51Speaker 4: was interesting. I didn't know if he was there to
- 3:53Speaker 4: maybe potentially provide something.
- 3:54Speaker 3: What are the numbers?
- 3:55Speaker 5: Six foot four? I mean, he's yeah, he's the wait,
- 3:58Speaker 5: I think around two twenty.
- 3:59Speaker 3: But it's it's you know, it's why is he available?
- 4:02Speaker 5: Because he got hurt?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Oh, he hasn't panned out in the NFL at all.
- 4:05Speaker 7: He I think he had back injury. The first he's
- 4:07Speaker 7: the third round pick of the forty nine ers. So
- 4:09Speaker 7: you know, they have a pretty good pedigree of you know,
- 4:11Speaker 7: reputation and developing guys.
- 4:12Speaker 5: But back injury, acl injury.
- 4:16Speaker 7: You know, it's it's three years basically lost and so
- 4:18Speaker 7: he hasn't really he hasn't had an opportunity.
- 4:20Speaker 5: But you know, this is what they kind of do.
- 4:22Speaker 5: You know, it's it's you know, flea market shopping.
- 4:24Speaker 7: You know, you're kind of looking for something like, hey,
- 4:27Speaker 7: this has got a little ding in it. But I think,
- 4:29Speaker 7: you know, if we give it a chance and we
- 4:30Speaker 7: fix a couple of wires, it might it might work
- 4:32Speaker 7: out okay for us. So, I mean I said before
- 4:34Speaker 7: I think they needed to add some depth. This wasn't
- 4:36Speaker 7: exactly what I meant. I mean, there was no, no, no, no,
- 4:39Speaker 7: no no. I'm intrigued by the skill sets. I mean,
- 4:42Speaker 7: six of the ten receivers on their roster have not
- 4:44Speaker 7: caught an NFL.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Do you remember when I said a couple of weeks ago,
- 4:46Speaker 4: we were talking about the supplemental draft and there were
- 4:48Speaker 4: two wide receivers, one from Jackson State, one from Purdue.
- 4:52Speaker 4: That's this is the kind of like you need I
- 4:57Speaker 4: don't know what the number is, but ten or twelve
- 4:59Speaker 4: wide receivers to be out there at the training campfield
- 5:01Speaker 4: to to just run right run routes, you know, so
- 5:04Speaker 4: the quarterbacks can throw and you're not killing your front
- 5:07Speaker 4: line guys. So yeah, that kind of depth, not depth
- 5:12Speaker 4: on the fifty three man rocks.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and for those new to this game, there's going
- 5:16Speaker 3: to be a turnstyle of guys coming in and out
- 5:20Speaker 3: throughout camp. You know, so guys.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Even yesterday, I think there was a list of about
- 5:24Speaker 4: a half dozen guys they had in for tryouts they
- 5:26Speaker 4: signed to it.
- 5:27Speaker 3: There'll be guys getting cut, re signed, guys signing getting
- 5:33Speaker 3: not resigned.
- 5:33Speaker 7: You know, somebody gets hurt, it'll be somebody gets signed.
- 5:36Speaker 3: You need ninety bodies. You need ninety bodies out there,
- 5:40Speaker 3: and so you know, you try, you take a flyer
- 5:42Speaker 3: on a guy, see how he looks. So this is
- 5:45Speaker 3: going to be a constant, you know, wave of people
- 5:48Speaker 3: coming in and out.
- 5:50Speaker 7: Yeah, and then I think the other two big pieces,
- 5:52Speaker 7: just to touch on, we're Belichick confirming that Jack Jones
- 5:54Speaker 7: will be out there being number one and the other
- 5:57Speaker 7: one being uh gosh, I just totally Juju will be here.
- 6:03Speaker 7: Trump Brown has been here for a few days, so
- 6:05Speaker 7: I think there was some speculation of will is he
- 6:07Speaker 7: run the conditioning run yet, but it sounds like, you know,
- 6:09Speaker 7: he has. We saw a bunch of guys walking off
- 6:11Speaker 7: fall sweaty, so I don't know if some of the
- 6:13Speaker 7: vets were doing that. But day for conditioning run, I
- 6:15Speaker 7: mean not as bad as tomorrow and Thursday, and Friday.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Though, those days look like they're gonna be uh, you know.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Real real hot.
- 6:20Speaker 7: But yeah, it's uh Jack Jones, I guess it's going
- 6:24Speaker 7: to be out there. So I guess you just kind
- 6:25Speaker 7: of ride it out, see what happens. I think the
- 6:27Speaker 7: next we can't talk about it ongoing legal situation.
- 6:32Speaker 4: I was talking about his cornerback. I can't talk about.
- 6:34Speaker 7: We'll see in Green Bay what happens with, you know,
- 6:36Speaker 7: joint practices. But I guess for now it'll just be
- 6:38Speaker 7: he won't be available, probably to the media, I'm guessing,
- 6:41Speaker 7: but you know, yeah, to look at him.
- 6:43Speaker 3: They should just trot out his lawyer.
- 6:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I'm sure she'd be down for it.
- 6:48Speaker 5: She's ready to go. Uh yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 4: So no Jerry, like Jim Murray when he goes into
- 6:53Speaker 4: those rants. Oh yeah, he goes that's all alleged. You
- 6:57Speaker 4: lose us, all right, stop bothering my client, you lose it.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah. So this is big. It's everybody's here ready to go.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Feel the energy, I think a little bit. I don't know.
- 7:12Speaker 5: I mean, maybe it's just seeing the guys walk down
- 7:14Speaker 5: the hall.
- 7:15Speaker 3: We have our weekly department meeting, and we have a
- 7:19Speaker 3: fairly large department now and actually there's other people from
- 7:22Speaker 3: other departments that sit in in our meeting. You know,
- 7:26Speaker 3: we have it every Tuesday at eleven And I was
- 7:29Speaker 3: two minutes late today and when I walked in, boy,
- 7:32Speaker 3: the place it sounded like a you know, a cocktail part.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It was with loud music.
- 7:37Speaker 4: It was lively today.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, everybody, I think is excited now. You know,
- 7:42Speaker 3: talk to me in two weeks. Right right now. Everybody
- 7:45Speaker 3: is in a good mood, ready to go.
- 7:46Speaker 4: But the one thing I think that happens every year
- 7:50Speaker 4: in relation to what you guys are just talking about,
- 7:52Speaker 4: is that there are so many new people that come in.
- 7:55Speaker 4: There is an excitement. It's like we're going to camp.
- 7:58Speaker 4: It's the first day of camp, and it's new. There's
- 8:01Speaker 4: a newness to it. And I think that that definitely
- 8:04Speaker 4: was apparent today with all of those new faces that
- 8:06Speaker 4: we have.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, we have new faces on our staff too, not
- 8:10Speaker 3: just the team. So yeah, it was good to see.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I mean, we have to have at least a half
- 8:14Speaker 4: dozen people. This will be their first camp for us,
- 8:16Speaker 4: like within our you know, I shouldn't say our, within
- 8:20Speaker 4: Freddy's scope.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Freddy scope.
- 8:23Speaker 4: He's the we are all Patriots, and tonight the Patriots
- 8:30Speaker 4: will go to training camp tomorrow.
- 8:32Speaker 7: Technically, well maybe it was to the content team my
- 8:35Speaker 7: little Barbie trip last night too.
- 8:36Speaker 4: So oh I let them. I gave them the what for. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 4: they say they had a great time. They asked me
- 8:43Speaker 4: why why I missed it? I said, no, no, no, I
- 8:45Speaker 4: didn't miss it. What I missed was the invitation. There
- 8:49Speaker 4: you go, you didn't How do you expect me to
- 8:51Speaker 4: go if I don't know what's happened?
- 8:52Speaker 3: I went Saturday. I saw Barbie, did you really?
- 8:55Speaker 5: Two thumbs up from you?
- 8:56Speaker 3: He was okay. I was hoping to laugh more. I
- 9:01Speaker 3: thought it was a good It was solid. I mean
- 9:03Speaker 3: the design, the set design, and the unbelievable.
- 9:06Speaker 4: I will probably see it, but can I just ask
- 9:10Speaker 4: was it? Let me let me ask was it designed?
- 9:13Speaker 8: So?
- 9:13Speaker 4: Like, I'm a little disappointed by your five second synopsis there,
- 9:17Speaker 4: I was hoping to laugh more. Yeah, I'm here for that,
- 9:21Speaker 4: like you you like, do you just see what they do?
- 9:23Speaker 4: Like I assume you've seen the Toy Story movies. Like
- 9:26Speaker 4: the Barbie character and the Toy Story movies is absolutely hilarious.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Like I laugh at every element that they have with
- 9:33Speaker 4: Barbie and Ken did they not do that? And they
- 9:35Speaker 4: went serious likesage, just how miserable you are as a man.
- 9:40Speaker 4: There's a lot of I'm not I'm not ready for that.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I get told how idiotically and.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I didn't mind that. And there was a lot of
- 9:47Speaker 3: messaging and women empowerment and all that, and you know,
- 9:49Speaker 3: which is fine. I have no problem. I just expected
- 9:52Speaker 3: some better lines, you know, some funny lines, and there
- 9:56Speaker 3: was there was a couple you know, haha out loud,
- 9:59Speaker 3: but there wasn't any gut you know, uh, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 3: laugh from the gut moments.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I'll see it, I mean, eventually I'll see that. I
- 10:05Speaker 4: probably won't go to the movies to see it, but
- 10:07Speaker 4: I'll see.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But visually it's it's worth seeing. And you know, it
- 10:11Speaker 3: was clever, the whole idea I don't want to give.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Did you see Oppenheimer?
- 10:14Speaker 3: Not yet, but that's next on my list.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Matth Did you tonight?
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:19Speaker 9: I bought a ticket for the nine twenty tonight oh
- 10:21Speaker 9: here near my house.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Because Providence is the only one with seventy millimeter where
- 10:26Speaker 3: you can actually see it the way it was showy.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I camp tomorrow. I don't know if I like the
- 10:30Speaker 4: fact that you'll be out late.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it's Marie Matthew.
- 10:33Speaker 9: I'll sleep anyway, I'll be good.
- 10:34Speaker 5: I don't I have a good.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Time, but anyway. Yeah, so you know, Barbie was okay.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it was worth the theater visit for it.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know.
- 10:45Speaker 7: I find myself struggling with movies, Like I don't know,
- 10:47Speaker 7: I just don't enjoy them like I used to.
- 10:49Speaker 5: I don't know why.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Like we went to see The Spider Man, which is fine,
- 10:51Speaker 7: but I just find it so long and the previews
- 10:54Speaker 7: and I'm like, I've been here for four hours.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I'm a little worried about Oppenheimer for that. It's like
- 10:58Speaker 4: over three hours.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't mind. If it's a good movie, you
- 11:01Speaker 3: don't really mind.
- 11:01Speaker 4: I would agree, but it has to be really good.
- 11:04Speaker 3: It has to be a good movie.
- 11:05Speaker 7: But I think I've gotten used to kind of not
- 11:07Speaker 7: binging per se, but just being able to watch in
- 11:09Speaker 7: chunks and you know, like taking a break.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I like, I don't mind going to a movie for
- 11:13Speaker 3: the movies. For a good movie, you know, and the
- 11:16Speaker 3: whole get your popcorn, get your seat. You know. There
- 11:19Speaker 3: was seeing I use an element of I like the previews.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I mean Star Wars stuff I get
- 11:25Speaker 5: excited for. I think, but I don't know.
- 11:26Speaker 7: I think it's just been a while. I've been really
- 11:28Speaker 7: disappointed with a lot of.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Movies, jaded because you were I was in the bizz.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I was in the biz.
- 11:31Speaker 7: I see, I saw the sausage was made. I don't know,
- 11:34Speaker 7: I just I've been disappointed with movies like people like
- 11:37Speaker 7: COVID the.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Day for Camping. You're talking about barbies.
- 11:40Speaker 4: So it's funny that you say that. I did a
- 11:42Speaker 4: quick little talk today with a young man who's recently
- 11:48Speaker 4: out of college. He's working in the business a little bit.
- 11:51Speaker 4: He's doing some production work for twenty four to seven Sports.
- 11:55Speaker 4: He works for them a little bit. He just wanted
- 11:58Speaker 4: he's a friend of a friend. He wanted some vice,
- 12:00Speaker 4: blah blah blah. And I told him to listen, come here, Fred,
- 12:05Speaker 4: I'm not the I'm not I'm not I'm not the
- 12:07Speaker 4: kingmaker like you.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Fred. I can't really do anything for him.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You're just on the circuit.
- 12:11Speaker 4: But but I was laughing, and I said, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 4: I was telling them about what he asked, all the
- 12:16Speaker 4: different things that we do and I said, this is
- 12:18Speaker 4: one of you know, we have this radio show. It's
- 12:20Speaker 4: it's a podcast, but it's it's more of like a
- 12:22Speaker 4: radio show, and we're going to do it today. Like
- 12:25Speaker 4: listen to the beginning, I said, you So, obviously we
- 12:28Speaker 4: talk a lot about the pages, but we talk about
- 12:29Speaker 4: a lot of other stuff while there's massive construction going
- 12:32Speaker 4: on in the building.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Cameras he's head.
- 12:37Speaker 4: But I said, you know, it is the day before camp,
- 12:40Speaker 4: so I would imagine we'll be pretty much off football
- 12:43Speaker 4: today and literally five minutes and it's Barbie Oppenheimer.
- 12:47Speaker 7: Well, in our defense, we did touch on the major
- 12:49Speaker 7: key points of it, but it's been a long We.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Signed a couple of guys, but more importantly, bar.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Brosers spots eighty nine and ninety.
- 12:56Speaker 3: You know, Bill, he had his press conference today at
- 12:59Speaker 3: eight and uh, well, you know, for a guy who's
- 13:01Speaker 3: eighty five, he looks good. He looks good, Yeah he does.
- 13:04Speaker 5: He looks relaxed.
- 13:05Speaker 7: I'm sure he was on Nantucket, just off Nantucket probably
- 13:08Speaker 7: it's usually where he finishes up.
- 13:09Speaker 4: What did you look good?
- 13:10Speaker 3: You didn't catch that for a guy who's okay, I
- 13:13Speaker 3: did hear it?
- 13:14Speaker 5: Okay, I just want to make sure over my head too.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I thought, just being complimentaredy, he looks ready to go,
- 13:20Speaker 3: you know, yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 4: He was in mid season. I'll tell you that he.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Was that cantankerous. I mean the fact that he wouldn't
- 13:28Speaker 3: talk about Jack Jones, that's fine. Did you expect him to?
- 13:32Speaker 3: I thought he was fine.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm an idiot.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yes, I've seen him a lot worse than today.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Come on, now we see fine.
- 13:39Speaker 7: I mean I thought, uh that Trump Brown with with
- 13:42Speaker 7: Badar was interesting because I think came in a little late.
- 13:44Speaker 5: And was like, did he ask about did anybody ask
- 13:45Speaker 5: about Trump Brown?
- 13:46Speaker 3: Now?
- 13:46Speaker 5: I'm like, don't worry. Great, that's all you that's all
- 13:48Speaker 5: you care about Trump Brown.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Like the fact that Trent Brown is here is.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It's so funny?
- 13:53Speaker 5: Is he engaged?
- 13:53Speaker 3: I think that maybe Current and Badata and cahoots because
- 13:57Speaker 3: I was listening this morning and they had a clip
- 13:59Speaker 3: of Current, I guess from his podcast or something. As
- 14:02Speaker 3: somebody asked him what is the number one story going
- 14:05Speaker 3: into camp? What do you think? He said it was
- 14:09Speaker 3: the hot Seats.
- 14:10Speaker 4: No, No, I would say my number one story, which
- 14:12Speaker 4: I just posted this morning, is just Mac Jones.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Bill O'Brien, the offense.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Can the offense be fixed?
- 14:17Speaker 3: All fair question, all fair answers. You know what his
- 14:20Speaker 3: was Trent Brown and protecting mac Jones because he's that's
- 14:24Speaker 3: the number one.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's in the top five.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Okay, but it's not the number one story going into.
- 14:29Speaker 4: But for a guy like him, who's listen, I like
- 14:32Speaker 4: Greg person current Okay, well, oh yeah, I think that. Yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 4: I'm surprised that I'm surprised that it's current because that's
- 14:40Speaker 4: definitely under dage, right, and then he's offensive line.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And then but Dard came in and asked about Ted
- 14:45Speaker 3: Trent Brown. I'm like, are you guys talking or something?
- 14:47Speaker 4: You know, that's definitely one of the major storylines of camp. Well,
- 14:51Speaker 4: it's the tackle situation. I don't have any tackles.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Okay, but I think I think I think Bill O'Brien
- 14:57Speaker 3: and the offense over.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Me is number one. I I agree with you. Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 5: I just think Paul.
- 15:02Speaker 7: I think Paul's rubbed off on me with Trent Brown
- 15:04Speaker 7: because I just don't have high expectations that, like, at.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Best, he'll be solid, Like I don't really.
- 15:11Speaker 7: Have expectations that he's going to come in and be
- 15:13Speaker 7: that what he was built up to be when he
- 15:15Speaker 7: was here in eighteen is the left tackle and played
- 15:17Speaker 7: every game, and you know, was like, I don't think
- 15:20Speaker 7: we're ever getting back to that, Trump Brown.
- 15:21Speaker 3: So did you see Trent Brown a few days ago?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Posted him like doing sit up, I mean.
- 15:26Speaker 7: Push ups, and that was literally like to drop a
- 15:29Speaker 7: sweat on him. Like he looks engaged, he's ready to
- 15:31Speaker 7: go to college. Went Google, gotta over and it was unbelievable.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Listen, I'll eat up. I'm eating it up. Like the
- 15:38Speaker 3: fact that he even wants people to think that he's
- 15:40Speaker 3: working out is a good sign. Sure, you know, Like
- 15:43Speaker 3: because in the past he I don't think he cared
- 15:45Speaker 3: what people thought, you know. So the fact that he
- 15:48Speaker 3: wants people at least to think that that's a step
- 15:51Speaker 3: in the right direction.
- 15:52Speaker 4: If you ask me, he wants more money, okay, that's
- 15:56Speaker 4: why he's What are.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You going to do to get more money? You gonna
- 15:58Speaker 3: work harder. Okay, maybe you'll get more money, you know.
- 16:02Speaker 4: But then they're stuck. If you give him more money,
- 16:05Speaker 4: he's going right back. If you don't give him more money,
- 16:07Speaker 4: you just going right back.
- 16:09Speaker 7: That's the little carrot on the string in front of
- 16:11Speaker 7: him and just kind of keep it always out.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Of it and you don't think they're going to resign
- 16:15Speaker 4: him at the end of the year.
- 16:16Speaker 3: I have hope for Trent Brown this year. I think
- 16:17Speaker 3: he's going to have a good season, you know, barring injury.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I would just be like Mike and just say I
- 16:22Speaker 4: hope that he plays the vast majority of the games.
- 16:25Speaker 4: I'm not asking for anything else, anything more than that
- 16:28Speaker 4: he'll be perfectly adequate if he can be on the
- 16:30Speaker 4: field more often than not.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I think all those things that we said were
- 16:34Speaker 7: are significant and but I mean, really, the more I
- 16:36Speaker 7: think about last few days, like for me, young guys
- 16:39Speaker 7: have to pop, Like I need to see some young
- 16:42Speaker 7: guys playing at a level that we haven't quite seen
- 16:45Speaker 7: yet for me, like that, to me is what gets
- 16:47Speaker 7: this team out of the basement. I mean, Paul, I've
- 16:50Speaker 7: been watching more and more Red Sox lately. You brought
- 16:52Speaker 7: up the comparison last week to you know, kind of
- 16:55Speaker 7: what's happening there with Cassas and you know, Durant, and
- 17:00Speaker 7: there's a nucleus there that gets you people yes and
- 17:03Speaker 7: that and that to me, that for me is the
- 17:05Speaker 7: number one thing from this camp is if you come
- 17:08Speaker 7: out there and it can be really anybody.
- 17:10Speaker 5: I don't care draft in the last three.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Years, Mac Jones, Barmore, Thornton, Pierre Strong, like the somebody
- 17:17Speaker 7: like they need three or four guys that we're coming
- 17:19Speaker 7: in here after the record our podcast and be like,
- 17:22Speaker 7: you know, just a solid day for player x Taekwon,
- 17:24Speaker 7: Thornton out there, caught a bunch of passes like those
- 17:27Speaker 7: are the things that you know as much as the
- 17:29Speaker 7: other stuff like that, you're never gonna get to the
- 17:30Speaker 7: bottom of, like Bill Belichick's.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Job status or you know, how is it really going.
- 17:34Speaker 7: I mean, we'll get a sense with Mac and Bill O'Brien,
- 17:36Speaker 7: but I just I need to see young kids pop
- 17:39Speaker 7: and I think if they do, that's what starts the
- 17:41Speaker 7: excitement about this team again and gets you like, all right,
- 17:43Speaker 7: there's something kind of growing here good.
- 17:45Speaker 3: You know. Can we all make a promise to each
- 17:48Speaker 3: other though, Promise pinky pinky, Promise like in the next
- 17:50Speaker 3: four days if Christian Gonzales looks really good, like we
- 17:54Speaker 3: don't go crazy, because like he's.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Four days that's the perfect one.
- 17:59Speaker 5: This is him meant for this stuff. Running back and let's.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Not like you stop to start again. We have an
- 18:07Speaker 3: obligation to fans to you know, and like we shouldn't
- 18:12Speaker 3: build him up so much so that when you know,
- 18:14Speaker 3: he has that first play in a preseason game where
- 18:16Speaker 3: he gets burned, everyone's like, oh, give him his let's
- 18:23Speaker 3: give him time to adjust.
- 18:25Speaker 4: I like that.
- 18:26Speaker 7: Fred, I'm gonna say, don't google at his athleticism too much.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Google at football plays.
- 18:31Speaker 7: And when we get into padd and stuff like, you know,
- 18:33Speaker 7: then joint practices going against other teams, top players.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I just I just want to be fair about not
- 18:40Speaker 3: just his evaluation but in everybody's. But it's particularly the
- 18:43Speaker 3: first round draft pick cornerback in the NFL. I think
- 18:47Speaker 3: maybe it might be the second toughest position in the NFL, cornerback.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I would agree with that, you know, So let's let's
- 18:53Speaker 3: let's give him a shot here, Let's give him a break.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 7: And I mean, and that's I mean that goes from
- 18:57Speaker 7: any time people have written into the mail bag or
- 18:59Speaker 7: ask me about and all I say, you know, not
- 19:01Speaker 7: that I'm down on him in any way. I just
- 19:02Speaker 7: I think he's a young kid. I think that high hopes.
- 19:05Speaker 7: But let's just it's gonna take some time. Like unfortunately,
- 19:08Speaker 7: he's probably not gonna be as good as Sauce Gardner
- 19:10Speaker 7: is right out of the gate. Like you know, I
- 19:12Speaker 7: just I've accepted that there's gonna be some times when
- 19:14Speaker 7: he gets burned, and that's okay, you know. I just
- 19:16Speaker 7: think that he has so many tools that you just,
- 19:19Speaker 7: no matter what kind of growing pains he shows, be patient.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I'm higher. I think there's a good skill
- 19:24Speaker 4: set there. I'm anxious to see him play, but.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I don't jump the gun either way.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, don't worry about what you see the first
- 19:30Speaker 4: four days. Wait till we get into camp, and then
- 19:33Speaker 4: wait even more importantly too, when they head to Green
- 19:36Speaker 4: Bay and Tennessee.
- 19:37Speaker 5: I tell you what, I just want to see the
- 19:38Speaker 5: first four days. That's what I'm thinking.
- 19:39Speaker 7: Offense though, that's like and and just to the point
- 19:42Speaker 7: of what we saw last year that this looks like
- 19:44Speaker 7: everyone's on the same page.
- 19:45Speaker 5: The ball isn't hitting the ground Day.
- 19:46Speaker 4: One, How excited we were. Jimmer was born in Parker
- 19:51Speaker 4: with all the red zone. It was all red zones.
- 19:53Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know, if you know. We
- 19:56Speaker 4: always started they were catching touchdowns and Parker was head
- 20:00Speaker 4: topping guys and everybody was all this enthusiasm and Bourne
- 20:03Speaker 4: was playing to the crowd, and then it never worked again.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Like starting day two. It went progressively downhill the rest
- 20:10Speaker 4: of camp. So it'll be interesting to see if they can.
- 20:13Speaker 4: And I heard on my show with one of my.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Guys, could be any one of six shows in this
- 20:19Speaker 3: Mark McCarthy.
- 20:21Speaker 4: I heard Felder, you know, really hammering home that point yesterday,
- 20:24Speaker 4: like they he feels like it's really important that they
- 20:26Speaker 4: got off to a good start. And he's not talking
- 20:28Speaker 4: about against Philadelphia, he's talking about tomorrow. Yeah, Like there's
- 20:32Speaker 4: relationships that sort of need to be fixed, there's a
- 20:35Speaker 4: confidence level that needs to be built. I agree, Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 4: I think some of that stuff will start right away tomorrow,
- 20:42Speaker 4: and hopefully we don't see the signs that we saw.
- 20:46Speaker 4: They were a parent from a hundred rows up and
- 20:49Speaker 4: our vantage point up in the red level. You could
- 20:51Speaker 4: see them on the field, and hopefully we don't see
- 20:53Speaker 4: some of those things starting tomorrow.
- 20:55Speaker 7: It was just, I mean, you remember how I was
- 20:57Speaker 7: losing my mind about the contested catches with it.
- 21:00Speaker 4: It was every successful play was a contested catch up,
- 21:03Speaker 4: and no way to go.
- 21:05Speaker 7: Then it'd be an occasional agalore down the sideline, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 7: again really tight though contested. I just I don't want
- 21:11Speaker 7: to see that, you know, occasional shot plays with check down,
- 21:15Speaker 7: check down, check down incomplete. You know that that was
- 21:18Speaker 7: the rhythm that we got into on the offense last
- 21:20Speaker 7: year and it and they, like you said, Paul, they
- 21:22Speaker 7: never really broke out of it. So I think, as
- 21:24Speaker 7: much you don't want to overreact either way on the offense,
- 21:27Speaker 7: I think that they'll be you know, some kind of
- 21:28Speaker 7: inkling of how it's.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Going with it. I mean with Bill's press conference to
- 21:32Speaker 3: the other thing I you know you had to catch
- 21:35Speaker 3: is he really hates the fact that you can't do
- 21:40Speaker 3: anything in practice anymore, Like he kind of you know,
- 21:43Speaker 3: they suggested that a few times during his press conference
- 21:47Speaker 3: that you know, we can't do you can't do football things.
- 21:51Speaker 3: You know, we don't know how guys are until they
- 21:53Speaker 3: start doing football things, and we can't do football.
- 21:56Speaker 7: Things until like next week, right, And he said, I
- 21:58Speaker 7: think like they had fifty practices in one of like
- 22:01Speaker 7: the old school training camps, of which is excessive.
- 22:03Speaker 5: I mean, that's the other you don't need that much.
- 22:05Speaker 4: But every seven every year he goes through that thing
- 22:09Speaker 4: just to tell you, oh wow, you know we reported
- 22:13Speaker 4: on July third, and you know we had three scrimmages
- 22:16Speaker 4: and six preseason games. I could almost tell you chapter
- 22:19Speaker 4: in first what he said. He says every year, and
- 22:21Speaker 4: you know it was, you know, eight weeks. And but
- 22:24Speaker 4: what he's eliminating is what about the eight week OTA
- 22:29Speaker 4: program that you just finished. They didn't have those then.
- 22:33Speaker 3: But you can't do anything.
- 22:34Speaker 4: No, I understand, Like the contact is a different. Oh yeah,
- 22:37Speaker 4: that's a whole different thing. I'm just talking with you.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Not a practices ain't that different because back then, But
- 22:43Speaker 4: they are.
- 22:44Speaker 3: That's his point.
- 22:44Speaker 4: The amount of contact is different, is my.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Point, and that's what football is. His point is, we're
- 22:50Speaker 3: not practicing football. We're practicing our plays and what. But
- 22:55Speaker 3: we're not jamming, we're not blocking, we're not hitting, we're
- 22:58Speaker 3: not tackling. That's football.
- 23:00Speaker 4: So why is everybody else?
- 23:02Speaker 5: Okay?
- 23:04Speaker 3: Everybody else isn't Okay. I'm sure this is a lament
- 23:07Speaker 3: with all the head coaches, at least the old guys.
- 23:10Speaker 4: You know exactly exactly, Well, yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 3: These that's but like if you can't practice, how you play.
- 23:18Speaker 4: In nineteen eighty No, like if you couldn't do it
- 23:21Speaker 4: the way they did it that, I think you're right.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I think you just hit it. At least the old
- 23:25Speaker 4: guys probably feel that way.
- 23:27Speaker 5: I agree.
- 23:27Speaker 3: No, I know, but you're not from them a football
- 23:30Speaker 3: if you're not playing it like.
- 23:32Speaker 4: That's fine. That's what he thinks. It's a parent that's
- 23:34Speaker 4: what he thinks.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and I this hole.
- 23:37Speaker 4: We're going to continue to use the start of the
- 23:38Speaker 4: season as an extension of the preseason. Yeah, yeah, it
- 23:41Speaker 4: ain't working anymore.
- 23:43Speaker 3: No, but I'm just saying it's I think, not just
- 23:46Speaker 3: for the Patriots. I think it's kind of silly that
- 23:49Speaker 3: you can't really practice football for most of you know,
- 23:52Speaker 3: in practice anymore.
- 23:54Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean then, but I think, like you know, Paul,
- 23:56Speaker 7: think what you were getting on too, is like that
- 23:57Speaker 7: back then April May, they weren't here.
- 24:00Speaker 5: It's not anything like you know.
- 24:01Speaker 4: So it's they've done a lot of work that you
- 24:03Speaker 4: can't do then at a different time of year.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Different types, but okay, different type of content.
- 24:09Speaker 4: You're right, You'm not. I'm not arguing with you about
- 24:11Speaker 4: the contact. There's no comparison between the amount of contact,
- 24:16Speaker 4: but it's been like that for a long time. I
- 24:18Speaker 4: know it, and everybody else has adapted and adjusted.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Well, he's not saying that he hasn't adapted.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Everybody's on this side.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I don't think what he's being asked about like evaluation
- 24:27Speaker 3: type questions. It's tough to evaluate these guys until we
- 24:31Speaker 3: start being able to have contact because that's football.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Yeah, that was I mean, and that was.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Wide receiver gets a free release on every play. It's
- 24:42Speaker 3: gonna look different than when somebody starts putting their hands
- 24:44Speaker 3: on it.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But I thought that was a good answer from Bill.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I mean, it's pretty simple. But when the Pets come.
- 24:48Speaker 5: On next week, can actually start and.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Then we start, then we start evaluating. I I totally
- 24:53Speaker 4: get that. I'm one hundred percent with Bill on that.
- 24:55Speaker 3: But even then, it's not full contact.
- 24:59Speaker 5: It's not full of the ground tackling.
- 25:01Speaker 7: I mean, and we didn't really even see much of that,
- 25:03Speaker 7: like goal line like I mean, because I remember, like
- 25:05Speaker 7: there's not much of that anymore either. Like you know,
- 25:07Speaker 7: though we seem like the first play a camp with
- 25:09Speaker 7: I remember James Devlon talking to me about it. You
- 25:11Speaker 7: know that that's one of the first days of pads
- 25:13Speaker 7: that they put a full back in.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You know, I want remember Bryant College, Ted Johnson and
- 25:18Speaker 3: Sam Gash. Oh yeah, it's like two mountain goats.
- 25:21Speaker 5: They used to do that.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah, And I would just say that the game is
- 25:24Speaker 4: better today. But that's just me like.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I agree that.
- 25:28Speaker 7: I mean then that seems like not really doing it
- 25:31Speaker 7: to really get better or try something.
- 25:32Speaker 4: It's just maybe that's seven. No, I don't want that.
- 25:36Speaker 4: I don't want that, and I don't want fifty two
- 25:38Speaker 4: to forty nine games. I don't want that. I understand
- 25:42Speaker 4: what you're talking about. I just I don't think in
- 25:45Speaker 4: my time here since ninety nine, I have not seen
- 25:48Speaker 4: really any tackling to the ground ever, other than live
- 25:51Speaker 4: goal line drills, which they have not done in recent years.
- 25:55Speaker 4: In Fred's right, you would get Sam Gash and Ted
- 25:58Speaker 4: Johnson on the goal line live as it can possibly be.
- 26:03Speaker 4: You don't see that anymore. But I never saw from
- 26:06Speaker 4: Pete Carroll all the way through to now, I've never
- 26:09Speaker 4: saw any consistent tackling to the ground, And I think
- 26:14Speaker 4: that makes a lot of sense, Like you want to
- 26:16Speaker 4: avoid that wear in terror as long as you can.
- 26:19Speaker 5: I just love the one guys, tap people off like
- 26:20Speaker 5: I would have.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Had them a little tap on the hip, the little tap.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Not sure you were there to make that play, Bud.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Anyway, it's different.
- 26:30Speaker 5: It's a lot.
- 26:31Speaker 4: There's fred I'm not arguing with It's it's night and
- 26:33Speaker 4: day different, no question.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and you think it's better, it might be.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I think it's better for the players. It's better for
- 26:40Speaker 4: the offense, it's better for the but like the players
- 26:43Speaker 4: wear in tear. Can you imagine what you must have
- 26:46Speaker 4: felt like heading into week one of the regular season,
- 26:50Speaker 4: coming off of really nine weeks of games, three screens
- 26:54Speaker 4: in six in six games, you'd be dead.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Have they done the studies of like injuries like thirty
- 27:02Speaker 3: years ago?
- 27:02Speaker 4: I'm not talking about like injuries in general. I'm not
- 27:05Speaker 4: like comparing the data because the data is not really
- 27:08Speaker 4: available like it is now. Like I'm sorry, Like if
- 27:12Speaker 4: Tua landed on his back the way he did against
- 27:15Speaker 4: Cincinnati and hit his head, true, he wasn't leaving the game.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yeah, the concussion thing. Can't compare it to.
- 27:20Speaker 4: The nineteen eight So this belt, the fact that there
- 27:22Speaker 4: weren't as many injuries documented doesn't tell me anything.
- 27:26Speaker 7: Who Ever thought that was a good idea like why
- 27:27Speaker 7: don't we play a whole season before we play the season?
- 27:30Speaker 5: Like when was that ever?
- 27:31Speaker 10: Like?
- 27:31Speaker 11: Who?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Why?
- 27:32Speaker 4: But I do think that some of those old school
- 27:34Speaker 4: guys thought that was the only way you can do it,
- 27:36Speaker 4: because that's the way we did it.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Other thing, and we.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Didn't have a water bottle. We had a ladel that
- 27:40Speaker 4: we put in the bucket, and everybody used the same ladel.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I mean, even in our lifetime, it was fourteen games,
- 27:46Speaker 3: you know, and now then it went to sixteen. Now
- 27:49Speaker 3: it's seventeen, and it's going.
- 27:50Speaker 4: To those things. I agree with you on it, like
- 27:52Speaker 4: I think those things are going in the wrong direction.
- 27:55Speaker 3: But I'm what I'm saying, I'm gonna hear. I'm going
- 27:57Speaker 3: to play your side of the fence, Paul. Is the
- 28:00Speaker 3: longer you're a season, the more you kind of do
- 28:02Speaker 3: need to monitor these guys and ease up a little
- 28:06Speaker 3: bit so that they can last eighteen games plus playoffs.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and again I'm not arguing there's no there's no
- 28:11Speaker 4: comparison these camps. It's almost like a country club now
- 28:14Speaker 4: compared so even the way it was when I first started.
- 28:17Speaker 7: The worst thing is when it's hot, Like that's like
- 28:18Speaker 7: when hot today, right, that's about his back.
- 28:21Speaker 4: It's a lot of instruction, Like there's a lot of
- 28:24Speaker 4: like this is what we're going to do, as opposed
- 28:26Speaker 4: to let's do it.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 7: Yeah, So you think Fred eighteen two preseason.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Without doubt, that's coming without a doubt.
- 28:33Speaker 7: I kind of like it. Like I hate seventeen games.
- 28:35Speaker 5: I hate I hate the odd. I'd rather go eighteen.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Like I'd rather go eighteen, you know. Yeah, it's so hard.
- 28:41Speaker 5: It's still on, Like I think they're an eight and
- 28:43Speaker 5: nine team, Like it doesn't feel natural.
- 28:45Speaker 3: The only good thing about the only good thing about
- 28:47Speaker 3: the odd numbers. You can't have a five hundred team.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Right right, I know, so you never really know for
- 28:51Speaker 5: sure we're five hundred.
- 28:54Speaker 3: You can't have it. You're you're either a winning team
- 28:56Speaker 3: or a losing team. And I kind of like that.
- 28:59Speaker 7: Yeah, there's no there's no but I mean we didn't
- 29:01Speaker 7: have a losing record, you know, there's not that anymore.
- 29:04Speaker 4: But Tomlin did it right, Yeah, he went eight eight
- 29:06Speaker 4: and one one, never had a losing record.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Can we can we mention patuce bergeron.
- 29:13Speaker 3: That's a oh yeah, he called it quits today.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Tough one produced and he's one of my now he's
- 29:19Speaker 4: one of my favorite.
- 29:20Speaker 7: Special special Boston athletes.
- 29:22Speaker 5: I don't think he ever really did anything wrong. No, Like,
- 29:25Speaker 5: the guy.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Is really really good player. I don't want to call
- 29:29Speaker 4: him a great.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Play What about driving up Butcher Cassidy.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I was disappointed in him last year, but I think
- 29:35Speaker 4: he was part of that. I think he could have
- 29:37Speaker 4: at the very least, I think he could have prevented that.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And then Jalen Brown got a lot of money.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Him supermac's highest paid playout player in NBA history for
- 29:47Speaker 4: a moment, until till the next guy, until the next guy.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Did you see?
- 29:51Speaker 7: Speaking of contracts, you see I saw Burrow. Burrow's kind
- 29:54Speaker 7: of playing easy with with his contracts because he doesn't
- 29:57Speaker 7: want to sign before Herbert signs. So like, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 7: you've kind of you're starting to get like these like
- 30:01Speaker 7: staredowns now on contracts between those places.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I'm sure it's probably happened in the past, right, there
- 30:06Speaker 5: have been guys.
- 30:07Speaker 4: That, yeah, the quarterback is a real thing, you know,
- 30:09Speaker 4: and then.
- 30:10Speaker 7: You have hurts. He probably might be up for one
- 30:13Speaker 7: down maybe next year.
- 30:14Speaker 3: And I was wondering what Cincinnati's gonna do with Burrow.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Well, Borrow's gonna sign. It's the question to me is
- 30:20Speaker 4: what are they going to do with the pieces around him?
- 30:23Speaker 4: Like they've already worked with Mixing, they redid his deal,
- 30:27Speaker 4: which is going to make it far easier for him
- 30:29Speaker 4: to be on the team next year. Do they do
- 30:31Speaker 4: something with t Higgins because I think Tyler Boyd probably
- 30:34Speaker 4: as closest to the end and they could probably lose him.
- 30:36Speaker 4: You can flip him, I think, maybe save some money.
- 30:40Speaker 4: But yeah, they have some skilled position guys and some
- 30:42Speaker 4: pieces around Burrow that they probably want to keep. They
- 30:46Speaker 4: lost the safety from last year that Jesse Bates right, Yep,
- 30:51Speaker 4: that's that's gonna be hard. I think if Burrow does
- 30:53Speaker 4: the Brady thing and not necessarily take less, but structure
- 30:57Speaker 4: it in a way where you don't have to get
- 30:58Speaker 4: every last time, you know, there's obviously things you could do.
- 31:02Speaker 4: My issue there for Cincinnati. If I were a Bengals fan,
- 31:04Speaker 4: I'd be scared to death because I think that is
- 31:07Speaker 4: a really, really cheap ownership group.
- 31:09Speaker 5: And that's that's what makes me excited, because like if.
- 31:12Speaker 4: It was if it was another team, I would say,
- 31:14Speaker 4: don't worry about the cap, you know, give me the
- 31:15Speaker 4: napkin and blah blah blah blah. We'll do that in
- 31:17Speaker 4: five minutes. But with Cincinnati, they're worried about where every
- 31:21Speaker 4: last dollar is going. There's any chance that they don't,
- 31:24Speaker 4: they can't. They don't certain him and borrow. That would
- 31:27Speaker 4: be zero points zero.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he's an Ohio guy. I mean the
- 31:32Speaker 3: state would revolt. Oh, I love it.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I love it, But would would be be interested in them?
- 31:40Speaker 4: I don't care, just speaking for myself, seems like it
- 31:42Speaker 4: costs a lot of money and Mac is as good
- 31:44Speaker 4: as him.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Not enough bad things can happen to that team, So
- 31:49Speaker 3: I would just love it, but it ain't gonna happen.
- 31:52Speaker 3: That would be Oh.
- 31:54Speaker 5: I know that's I mean, that's when it's easy. I shouldn't,
- 31:57Speaker 5: but I still I still just.
- 31:58Speaker 7: Would love to see what it looks like, because is
- 32:00Speaker 7: he even going to be the highest played quarterback for
- 32:02Speaker 7: that like brief window of time after he signs it, like,
- 32:05Speaker 7: are they don't even make that.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I'm not sure he will be. I'm not sure he
- 32:08Speaker 4: will be. Herbert's another one that I would actually worry about.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Herbert with the Chargers because that's another group that doesn't
- 32:15Speaker 4: seem to understand how to do these things, doesn't always
- 32:18Speaker 4: do the right thing right.
- 32:20Speaker 3: And I don't that that ownership family. They don't have
- 32:23Speaker 3: a lot of money, you know, liquidity is that the
- 32:27Speaker 3: spano I mean, that's why they had.
- 32:30Speaker 7: To move and share at a duplex over there exactly.
- 32:35Speaker 3: So yeah, that's that's other stuff around the NFL. But
- 32:40Speaker 3: like every year, there's a ton of great storylines throughout
- 32:44Speaker 3: the league. I got to go to Sean Watson, how's
- 32:48Speaker 3: he gonna be?
- 32:50Speaker 5: Why? I said? The Jets? The Jets Aaron Rodgers.
- 32:54Speaker 7: Interesting conversation because I I'm kind of torn, like because
- 32:58Speaker 7: you know, we obviously social media depart, what do we
- 33:00Speaker 7: put out video? You know, we're we're obviously a little
- 33:02Speaker 7: bit restricted in terms of what we can shoot and share,
- 33:05Speaker 7: you know. And I just wondered, like, you know, the
- 33:07Speaker 7: Jets are sharing left and right highlights from practice and
- 33:10Speaker 7: great catches, and you know, it seems like their fan
- 33:12Speaker 7: base really enjoys it.
- 33:13Speaker 5: So I'm just torn.
- 33:14Speaker 7: Though, on the decision of like do you trumpet that
- 33:18Speaker 7: stuff in practice because you certainly get a return, like
- 33:20Speaker 7: you get you get some excitement, but you're also like
- 33:23Speaker 7: maybe building up false hope and you know, you're you're, you're,
- 33:26Speaker 7: you're building up a hype train that that might not
- 33:28Speaker 7: do the station.
- 33:29Speaker 4: I mean, and we've done highlights and stuff that have
- 33:31Speaker 4: taken off.
- 33:32Speaker 3: I mean, I think you highlights if you're the Jets,
- 33:37Speaker 3: you know, milk it while you can. If it turns
- 33:39Speaker 3: down to be into a bad season, well it's just
- 33:41Speaker 3: like every other season.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Well so, so I wanted to ask about that and
- 33:46Speaker 4: get your opinion. We haven't really, I don't think, discussed
- 33:48Speaker 4: the hard knock stuff on our show. And obviously the
- 33:52Speaker 4: Jets didn't want to do what They went kicking, screaming,
- 33:54Speaker 4: and they've been upset about it, and some of their
- 33:56Speaker 4: guys have talked about not wanting to be around here,
- 34:01Speaker 4: like Fred, and I'm lockstep with Fred on this one.
- 34:04Speaker 4: We don't like the Jets. There's nothing about the Jets
- 34:06Speaker 4: I've ever liked. We're all assuming that they're going to
- 34:11Speaker 4: not be We recognize that on paper talent, but we
- 34:14Speaker 4: all sort of say if they're the Jets, right, they're
- 34:16Speaker 4: the Jets, and everybody's convinced that they'll screw it up
- 34:21Speaker 4: because they're the Jets. This is the reason why that
- 34:24Speaker 4: they're they're holding onto this one. Like Gresh and Fourier
- 34:27Speaker 4: last week, are completely and thoroughly convinced that the amount
- 34:31Speaker 4: that they're talking about not wanting to do hard knocks
- 34:33Speaker 4: is a sign that they won't work. Like, why would you,
- 34:37Speaker 4: like if you were like, if you were a coach,
- 34:40Speaker 4: if you were solid, Like, why would you want to
- 34:42Speaker 4: do hard knocks?
- 34:44Speaker 3: Yeah? No, no team should want to do that.
- 34:46Speaker 5: And I like, I don't care.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Like, to me, it has just as like their point was,
- 34:51Speaker 4: they're not focused on the things that are important. They're
- 34:53Speaker 4: focused on complaining about hard knocks. I think it's just
- 34:55Speaker 4: as easy to spin that as a positive and say
- 34:58Speaker 4: they're all in agreement that they don't want to do this,
- 35:00Speaker 4: and it's us against them.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Because we want to focus, right. I like that, and
- 35:04Speaker 3: I listen, I think, I like.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Why is that a reason that they're gonna go seven
- 35:07Speaker 4: and ten?
- 35:08Speaker 3: I hope that they go seven and ten. I hope
- 35:10Speaker 3: they'd go worse, But I think they're gonna be good.
- 35:13Speaker 4: I do too, but like, that's not the Like, I
- 35:15Speaker 4: don't understand why that's a reason why it won't work.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers not meshing in New York is a reason
- 35:21Speaker 4: why it might not work. No, he's old and maybe
- 35:24Speaker 4: he's maybe last year was just the beginning of the end, right.
- 35:27Speaker 7: I could spin it the other way too, of like
- 35:29Speaker 7: they really want to be on Hard Knocks so they
- 35:31Speaker 7: can get on TV and they're you know, their families
- 35:33Speaker 7: can get on TV and they love having the cameras around.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Like I could spin it the other way. And by
- 35:37Speaker 5: the way, dying to be on there.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I think there there's probably some of the younger guys,
- 35:41Speaker 4: guys like Sauce, you know, some of those young guys,
- 35:44Speaker 4: they want that exposure and they I'm sure, but like,
- 35:48Speaker 4: I don't understand why the fact that Aaron Rodgers has
- 35:52Speaker 4: spoken out about not wanting to do this, but they
- 35:55Speaker 4: made us do it. Why that's a bad thing for
- 35:57Speaker 4: the Jets. Yeah, you know the Jets chances this year.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Why is that an indication that see c the Jet Like,
- 36:07Speaker 4: can you imagine if they were doing it, the Patriots
- 36:09Speaker 4: were doing it.
- 36:10Speaker 7: I mean, they probably would not say anything, but I'm
- 36:13Speaker 7: sure that they none of them would want to do it.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Oh, you know, kind of like when you change special
- 36:17Speaker 4: teams rules and Matthew Slader had one of the most
- 36:19Speaker 4: intelligent articulate, well thought out rebuttals that I've ever listened to. Yeah, Like,
- 36:25Speaker 4: if they had it on their mind and it meant
- 36:28Speaker 4: something to them, they would say it. And I just
- 36:31Speaker 4: don't understand why that so. Well, Patriot's gonna have terrible
- 36:34Speaker 4: special teams now because they're bitching about the changing of
- 36:36Speaker 4: the special teams rules. They're not focused on it. That's silly,
- 36:39Speaker 4: that's silliness.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Like I said, I'm not completely convinced that Aaron Rodgers
- 36:46Speaker 4: can still be Aaron Rodgers based on what I saw
- 36:48Speaker 4: last year. I didn't think he played very well last year.
- 36:52Speaker 4: I don't like the Brady thing. To me, it made
- 36:55Speaker 4: sense that Brady went to Tampa with a chip on
- 36:58Speaker 4: his shoulder to prove that Bill was wrong and that
- 37:00Speaker 4: he wasn't done.
- 37:01Speaker 5: I don't know if Rogers cares that much.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he doesn't have that fire, I don't think.
- 37:06Speaker 4: I don't know if no, he may, but I don't
- 37:08Speaker 4: know if he cares that.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I just think he's so damn good. Yeah, they have
- 37:12Speaker 3: to be better than they were last year. They have
- 37:14Speaker 3: to be.
- 37:14Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, based on the highlights, they look good.
- 37:16Speaker 7: I mean, I cut a little of your show yesterday, Paul,
- 37:19Speaker 7: they were laying out the Jets schedule.
- 37:21Speaker 5: I mean it's it's a.
- 37:22Speaker 7: Tough as the tough schedule, Yeah, right up from the top.
- 37:26Speaker 7: So I think that's, you know what the point Felgrims,
- 37:29Speaker 7: we're making where things don't I mean, it's gonna be
- 37:31Speaker 7: tough for them right out of the gate. And if
- 37:32Speaker 7: it doesn't go well, how do they keep it together
- 37:34Speaker 7: or they able to be one of those teams that
- 37:35Speaker 7: overcomes a slow start and then is able to peak
- 37:38Speaker 7: at the end.
- 37:39Speaker 5: I don't know, man, But they got talent. I mean
- 37:41Speaker 5: I have to.
- 37:41Speaker 7: I can't go back on what I saw last year.
- 37:43Speaker 7: I mean, they've got the pieces that you want. I mean,
- 37:46Speaker 7: in the Patriots need you know, at the right spots.
- 37:49Speaker 7: You never know how it's going to come together.
- 37:51Speaker 3: But this Bill's running back that got hurt going to
- 37:55Speaker 3: be a factor this year.
- 37:57Speaker 7: He's a return I mean he's I mean, he's still
- 37:58Speaker 7: a good depth back. But I mean that's how they play,
- 38:01Speaker 7: you know, they like James Cook, you know, like those
- 38:04Speaker 7: little receiving backs.
- 38:05Speaker 5: That's that's their style.
- 38:06Speaker 7: I thought they might go in a different direction this
- 38:08Speaker 7: year and try to, you know, maybe reinvest in actually
- 38:10Speaker 7: try to, you know, show some dedication to running the ball.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Ji seemed to be the new helicopter accist.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Well, did you see how that happened?
- 38:18Speaker 5: Somebody hit him? Someone hit him.
- 38:19Speaker 4: He was like standing still on a jet ski and
- 38:22Speaker 4: got run into.
- 38:23Speaker 3: With another jet ski.
- 38:24Speaker 5: Another boat accident or was it a.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Boat boating accident? Did you notify the coast guard?
- 38:30Speaker 12: Uh?
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yes, French gives us the look.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I know it's just these two, these two igits.
- 38:37Speaker 5: But sorry, sorry, heines it.
- 38:43Speaker 3: No.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I do think it's h but I disagree a little
- 38:47Speaker 4: about their approach. I don't know if it will work,
- 38:49Speaker 4: but I think getting Damien Harris to them was in
- 38:53Speaker 4: their minds a better between the tackles short yardage option
- 38:59Speaker 4: than Aim and Singletary or whatever his name is, Devin
- 39:02Speaker 4: Damon's a former Northeastern basketball player.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Sorry, sorry, Damon always on his mind.
- 39:07Speaker 4: And then Devin's Singletary was And they keep cook. I
- 39:10Speaker 4: think cook. They think is they're the better of the backs,
- 39:13Speaker 4: and I think they have those two guys. Now, we'll
- 39:16Speaker 4: see if they do it. We'll see if Ken Dorsey
- 39:18Speaker 4: commits to running the football on third and one instead
- 39:21Speaker 4: of just saying Josh go get the first down, which
- 39:23Speaker 4: is generally what their offense has been in recent years.
- 39:25Speaker 7: That's that's what's most interesting idea.
- 39:28Speaker 4: No, I get it, I get it, but I think
- 39:30Speaker 4: if you want to be an offense at the next level,
- 39:33Speaker 4: you need to try to do some different things. And
- 39:38Speaker 4: and I think that at times that they just they
- 39:40Speaker 4: make him do too much, right, and it's.
- 39:42Speaker 7: But it's hard to pull back from that. And I
- 39:44Speaker 7: I mean, we talked about this during the offseason. That's
- 39:46Speaker 7: what I think is one of the interesting things to
- 39:47Speaker 7: me is anytime you hear quarterback talking like I have
- 39:50Speaker 7: to change the way I play, Like, I don't want
- 39:52Speaker 7: to hear that from you know, Josh Allen, I know
- 39:54Speaker 7: we play is super risky, and it seems like he's
- 39:56Speaker 7: one you know, like what happened with Jonathan Jones there
- 39:58Speaker 7: what like twenty nineteen, is that when you know he
- 40:00Speaker 7: got he's got.
- 40:01Speaker 3: That last year before the season and then the first play
- 40:03Speaker 3: he was like, I know, you know, jumping over.
- 40:05Speaker 7: How much is it in his head though? How much
- 40:07Speaker 7: is he questioning?
- 40:08Speaker 4: Down of the season he stiffed on the linebacker and
- 40:11Speaker 4: jumped over it, right.
- 40:12Speaker 7: I mean, but you just wonder if He's just gonna
- 40:14Speaker 7: keep doing what he does until he gets an injury
- 40:16Speaker 7: that he had, you know, and then it's like, all right, now,
- 40:19Speaker 7: I don't really quite feel comfortable running like that anymore.
- 40:21Speaker 7: But I just don't want him. I mean, I do
- 40:24Speaker 7: want him, but you know, you shouldn't be in your
- 40:25Speaker 7: own head if your quarterback question how you play. And
- 40:27Speaker 7: some of the plays he makes are like questionable decisions.
- 40:29Speaker 7: But that's what makes him great.
- 40:31Speaker 5: You know.
- 40:31Speaker 7: Imagine Patrick Mahomes thinking like, I don't know if I
- 40:33Speaker 7: should throw this, you know, vertical.
- 40:35Speaker 5: But that's him, you know. But I think he's you
- 40:39Speaker 5: be you.
- 40:39Speaker 4: I don't know what he's thinking because obviously no one's
- 40:41Speaker 4: in his head, but I think he's talking about all
- 40:43Speaker 4: the mistakes.
- 40:43Speaker 5: He made in the red zone.
- 40:44Speaker 4: He's thinking he had a lot of turnovers in the
- 40:46Speaker 4: red I can't believe I got the girl from Bumblebee.
- 40:51Speaker 3: All right? A five to five Pats five hundred is
- 40:53Speaker 3: the ace ticket. Hutline web radio at Patriots dot com
- 40:56Speaker 3: is the email address. Let's hit the phones. Patty's an
- 40:58Speaker 3: agua on what's up? Patty going on?
- 41:01Speaker 13: Gentlemen, Hey, hey, Patty, So I had the thought last
- 41:06Speaker 13: night and it was going into the or pretty much
- 41:10Speaker 13: after the two thousand season, they hired Romeo Cornell and
- 41:15Speaker 13: he did, uh, you know, because the defense, they they
- 41:18Speaker 13: had all the pieces on defense then, but you know,
- 41:23Speaker 13: he turned he helped turn that defense around and made
- 41:26Speaker 13: them a championship caliber defense. And I was thinking, you know,
- 41:30Speaker 13: could Bill O'Brien realistically do the same thing, And then
- 41:34Speaker 13: like the logical side of my brain, you know, sort
- 41:37Speaker 13: of kicked in and said, well that that defense was
- 41:40Speaker 13: actually good and who the hell knows what this offense
- 41:43Speaker 13: is gonna look like. But I, as I stated before,
- 41:48Speaker 13: like I'll come on here, I'm not gonna freak out
- 41:50Speaker 13: after like game one or the first practice or whatever.
- 41:54Speaker 13: I do believe we're gonna see different Mac Jones this year.
- 41:58Speaker 13: And I do think he's gonna have a really good season.
- 42:00Speaker 13: And I mean, if not, Thanksgimming, I'll come on, I'll
- 42:06Speaker 13: take my lump. But like I said, I'm not going
- 42:08Speaker 13: to freak out after a few practices or after the
- 42:11Speaker 13: first game or two, right.
- 42:15Speaker 5: You got to give it time.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Absolutely, I agree, Thanks Patty.
- 42:18Speaker 3: You know I was thinking about it. You know, people say, well,
- 42:20Speaker 3: you can't evaluate Mac unless you give him a number
- 42:23Speaker 3: one wide receiver. You could also make the other argument,
- 42:27Speaker 3: you can get a better evaluation with Mac if he
- 42:30Speaker 3: has to do it a little more, if he's not
- 42:33Speaker 3: propped up by this all world receiver. You know, maybe
- 42:37Speaker 3: this way we get a better idea of who this
- 42:40Speaker 3: guy is with a competent offensive coordinator.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Now that doesn't mean I don't want a number one receiver,
- 42:45Speaker 4: and I'm not disappointed that they didn't do more to
- 42:47Speaker 4: help him. But I agree with you, but it's trust
- 42:49Speaker 4: to me about the secondary part. I'm disappointed they didn't
- 42:53Speaker 4: sign Hopkins. I'm not necessarily disappointed because no, I don't
- 42:56Speaker 4: know what Mac Jones is, right, I don't.
- 42:58Speaker 7: Know anything about him. Yeah, I agree with the guys
- 43:00Speaker 7: he's got. I mean, no matter what he's got, I
- 43:02Speaker 7: think we got it.
- 43:02Speaker 3: But yeah, I think with these pieces he should be
- 43:05Speaker 3: able to perform. I don't think there's any excuse for
- 43:09Speaker 3: Mac Jones this year.
- 43:11Speaker 4: No, I don't.
- 43:13Speaker 5: I don't either.
- 43:13Speaker 7: I mean, I know this is one of the big
- 43:15Speaker 7: like sticking points of you know, how is this year
- 43:17Speaker 7: going to end up with Mac? And are you going
- 43:19Speaker 7: to have a true sense? And you know a lot
- 43:20Speaker 7: of people were upset after Hopkins, But I just think
- 43:24Speaker 7: with the coordinator is in place, I agree with what
- 43:27Speaker 7: Patty said, like, I have high.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Expectations for Mac this year.
- 43:29Speaker 7: I just I think he's done everything right except for,
- 43:32Speaker 7: you know, handling a little bit of the adversity during
- 43:34Speaker 7: the season.
- 43:35Speaker 5: So we'll see tomorrow.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Luca is in New Jersey. What's up, Luca?
- 43:41Speaker 14: My name is online?
- 43:44Speaker 15: I have like two questions.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Okay, r how do you feel about the cat? Well,
- 43:52Speaker 3: we just kind of talked about we're all disappointed. We
- 43:54Speaker 3: wanted him on the team and we were disappointed that
- 43:57Speaker 3: they didn't sign him.
- 44:00Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 44:01Speaker 16: Do you think Christian as good as rookie Tylaw?
- 44:06Speaker 3: Oh that's a really good question. That's an excellent question
- 44:10Speaker 3: because I can't remember how good rookie was?
- 44:14Speaker 5: Good.
- 44:14Speaker 3: No, he was good. I think I think he could be. Yeah,
- 44:20Speaker 3: but I think, Luca, we have to be patient when
- 44:25Speaker 3: he's a rookie. What do you think though, do you
- 44:28Speaker 3: think Christian Gonzales can be? Do you remember ty Laws?
- 44:36Speaker 3: What does your dad think?
- 44:40Speaker 17: And I think they're two different players, I'll be honest,
- 44:44Speaker 17: Yeah I do too.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Tyler was much more physical than Gonzales.
- 44:49Speaker 3: More compact. In fact, Parcells said that Law had to
- 44:52Speaker 3: worry about his weight. That was the guy that he
- 44:54Speaker 3: was always worried about him gaining too much weight. I
- 44:57Speaker 3: don't think you think you have to worry about that
- 44:58Speaker 3: with Christian Gonzales, if any thing, he needs to put
- 45:01Speaker 3: on some weight. Yea yeah. And it's a different game too,
- 45:04Speaker 3: yeah yeah, yeah right.
- 45:07Speaker 13: Me and my dad are going to a channing camp.
- 45:10Speaker 3: All right, you're going tomorrow.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Okay, all right, thanks, Well, come find me. I'll have
- 45:14Speaker 5: T shirts for you.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Look up for Alex and the Patriots. Unfiltered T shirts
- 45:18Speaker 4: will be available.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Look up at the stadium at the Rams and we'll
- 45:20Speaker 3: wave to you.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Okay, all right, thanks Luca, look for Alex.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Look at New Jersey. Let's go to Hakeem.
- 45:28Speaker 4: That was a good question.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Hakeem in Baltimore. What's up, Hakeem?
- 45:33Speaker 2: Hear me? Yes, hey, I'm a first time.
- 45:38Speaker 3: All right, thank you.
- 45:39Speaker 2: And I was listening to your show via the podcast
- 45:43Speaker 2: last week about the kind of like roster musical chairs
- 45:47Speaker 2: that have got me there thinking hypothetically, if Bill Belichick
- 45:50Speaker 2: goes away and again we have to get a new
- 45:54Speaker 2: head coach, what kind of philosophy do you think would
- 45:57Speaker 2: fit well for the Patriots with a new head coach.
- 46:02Speaker 7: Well, I think it's the age old thing of going
- 46:04Speaker 7: from the disciplinarian to the lucy goosey offensive.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Guy players coach.
- 46:09Speaker 7: Yeah, part, I mean I would I would think that
- 46:12Speaker 7: maybe an offensive coach would probably you know, but I
- 46:15Speaker 7: think Girod Mayo is probably the favorite. But I think
- 46:17Speaker 7: the way that things have been going around here, that
- 46:19Speaker 7: the feeling would be we got to get offense.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Going, I would quickly be looking for an offensive guy.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think they would too. I mean, that's
- 46:26Speaker 3: the way it is in the NFL these days. Gerd
- 46:28Speaker 3: Mayo's not he's he's Yeah.
- 46:33Speaker 2: A follow up question to so that is, can we
- 46:37Speaker 2: live with kind of middling for maybe like the next
- 46:40Speaker 2: eight to ten years?
- 46:41Speaker 3: Because eight to ten years?
- 46:43Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I mean, but do you think about history in the NFL,
- 46:47Speaker 2: think about the Ravens and the early two thousands.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Yeah, and the.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Chiefs just came around, and so you know, how did
- 46:53Speaker 2: Seattle get to where they got? For the small moment
- 46:55Speaker 2: that they have, I think you have to kind of
- 46:58Speaker 2: shack up on some drafteds.
- 46:59Speaker 5: Yep, it.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Right there, thanks a keem.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Yeah, he nailed it. That's how you get out of.
- 47:07Speaker 3: The smell of Paul's food is got to me. So
- 47:10Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break. But before we do, I

- 57:10Speaker 10: First of all, I think you need to let Megan
- 57:11Speaker 10: talk more.
- 57:12Speaker 14: You guys bickering in the background.
- 57:13Speaker 8: She's the best you have on that show.

- 57:20Speaker 3: There's no muzzle on Megan. She can talk anytime she wants.
- 57:24Speaker 23: So I heard that dontro And is retiring.
- 57:27Speaker 10: Does that mean we have a chance for Danny Ytlink to.
- 57:29Speaker 14: Be a Legiti receiver on his seat.
- 57:31Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't know about the retiring thing. But Dontrell
- 57:33Speaker 4: Edman looks lost in the first three days in practice.
- 57:36Speaker 5: Second hand, right.
- 57:36Speaker 2: He didn't he was late to camp and now he's
- 57:38Speaker 2: not out here?
- 57:38Speaker 4: Does it feels like a guy Dontrell Iman wasn't late.
- 57:40Speaker 5: He was not late to camp.
- 57:41Speaker 20: No, there were reports that he was not going to
- 57:44Speaker 20: show up on time, and then he did.
- 57:46Speaker 3: But he was.
- 57:48Speaker 4: He was, he was, but he was here.
- 57:50Speaker 14: Men, Yeah, got your mouth, let the lady's feet.
- 57:52Speaker 4: Wow, you can continue to make stuff up. But he's
- 57:54Speaker 4: been the first guy on the field the first three days.
- 57:56Speaker 4: But I know, and then you can call him late
- 57:58Speaker 4: if you want, but that's okay. You can come without
- 58:00Speaker 4: information and just be as smart. All right, Yeah right,
- 58:06Speaker 4: I'm sorry, You're right, Roger, Roger bringing it.
- 58:08Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 58:13Speaker 3: That was a great moment. You know who Roger was?
- 58:16Speaker 5: How did you guys not know it was an?
- 58:17Speaker 4: I know so well, we were up upstairs. There's a
- 58:21Speaker 4: lot of but full responsibility.
- 58:24Speaker 5: I'll take it. He got me.
- 58:26Speaker 4: And we were laughing about it later because I realized
- 58:28Speaker 4: it like late in the call, but you can hear
- 58:32Speaker 4: like my voice at the beginning. I totally did not
- 58:35Speaker 4: know it was him.
- 58:35Speaker 5: He totally fooled me.
- 58:37Speaker 4: And I was laughing later because when I when I
- 58:39Speaker 4: heard it played back, he was not disguising his voice,
- 58:42Speaker 4: not even a little, and he was he was all
- 58:46Speaker 4: over me and Fred.
- 58:48Speaker 3: And I think he drives to Toyota and hate Patriots fans.
- 58:51Speaker 3: If you want to see Toyota's best offers, including those
- 58:54Speaker 3: not seen on TV, go to buy at toyota dot com.

- 59:02Speaker 3: the New England Patriots, Toyota, Let's go places like so

- 59:24Speaker 5: Let's go, let's go places. We got to stress to go.
- 59:28Speaker 5: Let's go places.
- 59:28Speaker 4: Where do you want to go?
- 59:29Speaker 5: I want to go places.
- 59:31Speaker 4: I don't want to go places brand new?
- 59:35Speaker 3: Where do you want to go? I want to go places?
- 59:38Speaker 5: Right, Let's go places then?
- 59:40Speaker 4: Right, So next time when you read that, say it
- 59:41Speaker 4: like that, I want.
- 59:43Speaker 3: To go places.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Yes.
- 59:45Speaker 3: Okay, So so I should say Toyota, I want to
- 59:48Speaker 3: go places.
- 59:48Speaker 12: Yes?
- 59:49Speaker 3: All right?
- 59:50Speaker 5: Like the off season broke.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Us and Toyota is longer the sponsor of Patriots.
- 59:57Speaker 5: You're welcome, Toyota.
- 59:58Speaker 3: You're all right.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: You won the mask for the magic happens.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Let's get back to the discussion. Eighty five to five
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: PATS five hundred is the ACE ticket hotline web radio
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: at patries dot com. Is the email address?
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: Yes? Question in the back one more.
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: It sounds of reports that Lawrence Guy is uh is
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: here in the building. So not sure if that's a
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: hold in yet, but there was some speculation this morning.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Is Lawrence Guy gonna show up. I know.
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: I know our friend mister Lazar who is walking right
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: now here with his second the honest man.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: He's representing Marlon Martha's Vineyard. Is that a black dog shirt?
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: Is that just a Martha's Vineyard shirt?
- 1:00:36Speaker 17: I know this is a vineyard vine shirt. This is
- 1:00:39Speaker 17: what I was trying to tell you yesterday, but I
- 1:00:40Speaker 17: was wearing the wrong one. So this one is the
- 1:00:43Speaker 17: island logo, so that these That means that this shirt
- 1:00:47Speaker 17: is only sold on Martha's Vineyard, whereas the Whale's nard.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: If you want one, yeah, hard. So I was on
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: X and I asked anything.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: I saw your proposal. Yes, the dogs say yes.
- 1:01:01Speaker 17: The dog said yes. Apparently that's a big joke.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Well, you have to a fridge from the dog. It
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: looks like you're talking right to the door.
- 1:01:10Speaker 17: And the dog.
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: You watch your mouth when you talk about the matter.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: She doesn't matter, But it looks like you're talking to
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: the dogs dogs.
- 1:01:18Speaker 17: That's true.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: It was kind of we don't we placed.
- 1:01:22Speaker 17: We didn't give him a pronoun. We let him choose.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: Did you have to ask the dog's permission before you
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: ask your.
- 1:01:27Speaker 17: Well, the dog is our dog already. We got it together.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: So our dog. Yeah, well, congratulations, thank you, thank you.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: That's awesome. Do you have a date yet or are
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: you just no, no.
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: No, it's probably somewhere I'm in January. It won't be
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: ideal time for a wed.
- 1:01:42Speaker 17: It definitely won't be in football season, but.
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: Also not mini camp like Evan will probably like it'll
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: be around O t A like you'll make.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Sure the six week period between mini camp and the
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: start of training camp.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: Under wedding honeymoon back fresh I saw the tweet, I
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: was like, is this about time to tell Levin that
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: he's got to go straight from Green Bay to Tennessee,
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: like we're married and.
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: By the way, I'm going to be gone for two weeks.
- 1:02:07Speaker 17: Yeah, well, I built up some equity with the proposal,
- 1:02:10Speaker 17: you think, so maybe I won't be as much in
- 1:02:11Speaker 17: the doghouse.
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: There you go. Now you got to pick cakes and
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: flowers and you get your ring.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: I know, guy, it's good to know a guy.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I knew my mom, but because I.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Think that's one of the easiest things to get ripped off,
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: buying diamonds that I mean, the stuff that goes on out.
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: There, that's terrible girls, you know, and it's a big
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: thing for the girls. She's got to go around showing everybody.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: And if I've ever seen anybody give me the ring finger, Like.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I can't even do that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: I can't even do that.
- 1:02:44Speaker 17: That. That's honestly not to get into the whole thing
- 1:02:47Speaker 17: about about this, but that's honestly been the worst part
- 1:02:49Speaker 17: is like now, like the aftermath, Like now all the
- 1:02:52Speaker 17: questions and the family and the phone calls and this
- 1:02:55Speaker 17: and that, and now we got to plan a wedding.
- 1:02:56Speaker 17: Like I I'm team all Lopeman, Like I kind of
- 1:03:00Speaker 17: wish we did.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: Tell them it's a legal matter and I can't comment.
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: Yeah, right, get that register at Pottery Barn, you know,
- 1:03:06Speaker 7: get get your stuff.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: You gotta get that free stuff.
- 1:03:09Speaker 17: The gifts is the only positive. Oh yeah, it's the
- 1:03:11Speaker 17: only positive.
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: Boxes just start showing up, you know, stuff that you
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: never even thought you need, you know.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: Kyle Brant, by the way, this is kind of room.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: Kyle Brant when.
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: We've got married, gave us the biggest lobster pot you've ever.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Seen in your whole life. And I'm like, what am
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: I gonna do with this? We live in California.
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: I think I returned it, but he got married, probably
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: lobster guy.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: I guess any uh, any opening thoughts ever, like the
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: first day of well not the first day of practice,
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: but you know, kind of the opening day here.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 17: So I just came from player press conferences David Andrews,
- 1:03:46Speaker 17: Matthew Slater, and Juwan Bentley, which I think is telling
- 1:03:50Speaker 17: that does I would say, we knew that Andrews and
- 1:03:53Speaker 17: Slater would talk on a day like this, but Bentley
- 1:03:55Speaker 17: being the third guy in that group, and that was
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: that was a lot of the message. Look, we haven't
- 1:04:00Speaker 17: seen any real football yet. You're talking to the quote
- 1:04:04Speaker 17: unquote captains on the first day of anything, you know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 17: the first day of school here. And it was a
- 1:04:10Speaker 17: lot about leadership messaging, you know, sort of how we
- 1:04:17Speaker 17: put last year behind us like that, that kind of stuff, right,
- 1:04:20Speaker 17: And I thought that a couple of guys had some
- 1:04:22Speaker 17: interesting answers. Matthew Slater in particular just flat out admitted
- 1:04:27Speaker 17: that he still thinks that this era and I don't
- 1:04:30Speaker 17: need to put it all on Mac, but the Mac
- 1:04:32Speaker 17: Jones era is still forging its identity, that they still
- 1:04:35Speaker 17: don't really know what their identity is. And he addressed
- 1:04:39Speaker 17: the elephant in the room and said that we went
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: through a seismic change as an organization, referencing tom Brady leaving,
- 1:04:46Speaker 17: and we still haven't really found it yet. What what we're
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: hanging our head on.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: I would agree with him, don't you think especially?
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: I mean and even in like I know most people
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: were thinking in a bad way, but it's also a
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: good way. Like you're not an absolute bottom feeder yet
- 1:05:02Speaker 7: you're just kind of floating in the middle. And sometimes
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: you win, you're in limbo. You beat the bad teams,
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: you can't really beat the good teams. Was was anything
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: said by Slater just about like generally turning the page
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: from that, And you know.
- 1:05:15Speaker 17: I thought it was. I think it's good, you know,
- 1:05:18Speaker 17: not to like go all leadership school on you, but
- 1:05:20Speaker 17: I think it's good that he is addressing the elephant
- 1:05:22Speaker 17: in the room. That they did go through a monumental
- 1:05:25Speaker 17: change in going from tom Brady to not having tom
- 1:05:29Speaker 17: Brady is a pretty massive thing to go through as
- 1:05:32Speaker 17: an organization, and rather than trying to act like it
- 1:05:35Speaker 17: doesn't exist or hide from it or run from it,
- 1:05:37Speaker 17: I think they addressing it head on is is the
- 1:05:40Speaker 17: right thing to do. But he mentioned a handful of
- 1:05:43Speaker 17: players that he felt were a part of the next
- 1:05:46Speaker 17: nucleus to the next leadership corps, Jonathan Jones, Dietrich Wise,
- 1:05:51Speaker 17: Juwan Bentley, and then obviously Andrews also, even though he's
- 1:05:54Speaker 17: a little bit older, being as part of that that group.
- 1:05:58Speaker 17: And I think the one thing that I don't think
- 1:06:00Speaker 17: he purposely left anybody else. I'm not saying that, but
- 1:06:02Speaker 17: you just hope the quarterback is a part of that
- 1:06:05Speaker 17: here sooner rather than later.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Speak of staying on that leadership theme, if you had
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: to pick one surprise captain this year, who would it be?
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: Who?
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: I mean, somebody who you know obviously, who isn't a
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: captain yet a new captain.
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: That's a good question, Fred. This is why I print
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: out the rust I don't like.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: I don't know what would qualify as a surprise.
- 1:06:29Speaker 17: I think John Jones, I don't know if that's a surprise,
- 1:06:33Speaker 17: but I don't believe.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: I don't think he's been.
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: A new cap like maybe what about like an Adrian Phillips.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Maybe I'd be surprised.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: Because of his Hunter Henry Hunter Henry.
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: I'd be surprised if he was to be surprised. Those
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: are both qualify as a surprise.
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: Veterans who just seem to have kind of leadership qualities
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: generally not really speaking to anything they're they're doing on
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: and on the field. But maybe those guys, Yeah, I
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: mean it's tough, it's it's a lot of young guys.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: And like Dietrich Wise last year was a surprise. He
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: was a captain last year, right, Yeah, yeah, that was
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: a surprise to me. I wasn't expecting him to as
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: a captain.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: You not to, I mean I kind of on to it.
- 1:07:12Speaker 7: I just think, do you think David Andrews is any
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: chance he loses his job to Jake Andrews this year? Like,
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: do you think there's any chance that that's a competition.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: It could be a Wally pipp situation. No, I'm serious,
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: where he misses a game, this guy comes in and
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: never comes out again.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: I just wonder.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't, I don't. I don't think
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: there's any chance. I think it ended when Evan just
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: got back, Like, I'm dead serious, him talking to me
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: tells me that he's the center.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Well he is right now.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: So I don't think there's any thought that they think
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: that there's a chances're gonna lose his job.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: He could get hurt, the other kid comes in, plays
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: really well and just ever comes out okay.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: But like, who's that not true for?
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: I think led so that happened to him, Like that's
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: true for everybody. If you get hurt and the guy
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: goes in and plays better than you, there's a good
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: chance you're not get your job back. Yeah, I think, Mike,
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: correct me if I'm wrong. I think you're sort of
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: speculating he could be closer to the end. In the beginning,
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: they drafted ostensibly his replacement. Do you think that that
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: chance for a replacement happens now? And I say no,
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: if he gets hurt, that's different. Yeah, if he gets
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: hurt and loses his job, that's a different thing than
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: you are asked.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: I mean, you feel like Jake Andrews is a center, right.
- 1:08:21Speaker 17: Like, yeah, I do so.
- 1:08:23Speaker 7: And he was the first one taken of those offensive
- 1:08:26Speaker 7: linemen on day two.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: I think they're looking ahead. I think you're right.
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: It's just something and I don't really know, but I
- 1:08:34Speaker 7: also know that you know what the team kind of
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: look like when Andrews wasn't in there, and they put
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: Carrison and it was fine, but I felt like you
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: missed David Andrews And I don't know, it just it's.
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: An interesting thing to me.
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: You're totally right about the captain stuff, but the way
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: they took him, and you know where his ages.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: I know he's had some health issues.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Next player Denver say yeah.
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: But they they play in Denver this year, right, So
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: is that an issue for David Andrews still with the.
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: Altitude and blood clots and stuff. So I don't know.
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: I don't I'm not trying to like speculate that I
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: know anything.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: But last year is he in the last year?
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: I don't think so. I think he's signed for a
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: while right now.
- 1:09:07Speaker 17: I asked him, you know, at the end of his
- 1:09:09Speaker 17: press conference going into your nine, what what what still
- 1:09:13Speaker 17: motivates you? You know, I think it's an interesting question
- 1:09:17Speaker 17: on the heels of Devin mccorty saying that this team
- 1:09:20Speaker 17: isn't winning a championship anytime soon, and that was part
- 1:09:23Speaker 17: of what factored into his decision to retire, was that
- 1:09:26Speaker 17: he wasn't coming back to chase another ring with Brady.
- 1:09:30Speaker 17: He was coming back to a team that's still in
- 1:09:33Speaker 17: a rebuild and so it's interesting. Same thing for David Andrews.
- 1:09:36Speaker 17: I mean, he's not quite as as up there in
- 1:09:38Speaker 17: age as Devin is, but he he gave a pretty long,
- 1:09:41Speaker 17: winted answer about just being in the NFL player like
- 1:09:46Speaker 17: just the life of an like how great it is
- 1:09:48Speaker 17: to be not only playing the game that you love
- 1:09:51Speaker 17: for a living as your profession, but also how he
- 1:09:54Speaker 17: you know, joked around about how they get treated, you know,
- 1:09:56Speaker 17: free food and like all the like you know, cool
- 1:09:58Speaker 17: stuff that they get to do. You and I think
- 1:10:01Speaker 17: that he just really enjoys playing football as a profession.
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: You just kind of lose sight of, like it's actually
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: pretty cool to be a professional athlete like that.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: All Right, Paul and I got into a discussion. You know,
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: he thinks that it's better that uh, you know, you
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: can't practice the actual game of football for the play
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: in practice.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Can you can you put the last part of that
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: on here please? For the players.
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: I don't know how he said the actual game of
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: football too. That felt that.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Everything else is atally he quoted me accurately, just left
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: out the for the players. Yeah, well, the.
- 1:10:35Speaker 17: Belichick mentioned this morning. That's why we were talking to
- 1:10:37Speaker 17: The five day acclamation period is an interesting philosophy, and
- 1:10:42Speaker 17: I think it started last offseason. I think that that's
- 1:10:44Speaker 17: when it was put into the collective bargaining agreement. So
- 1:10:47Speaker 17: I didn't realize today counted. Paul told me earlier that
- 1:10:49Speaker 17: that today count.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: That's how it's been explained to me.
- 1:10:52Speaker 17: But I thought it was only on field set. But
- 1:10:53Speaker 17: I guess if they consider the conditioning test, the first.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: Day is mandatory, like today's mandatory, Like if Lawrence guy
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: wasn't here, then that would be officially findable.
- 1:11:02Speaker 17: Yeah, but we don't. So they get shells on I
- 1:11:06Speaker 17: think day fours, day four, and five, so like they
- 1:11:10Speaker 17: we should see shells on Friday and Sunday, correct, I suppose.
- 1:11:13Speaker 17: But yeah, no real real padded practices. But I think,
- 1:11:17Speaker 17: you know, Belichick said it too. Pads have to come
- 1:11:19Speaker 17: on first. That's a big part of it. But that
- 1:11:23Speaker 17: that joint practice two week stretch, that's the that's camp, Like,
- 1:11:27Speaker 17: that's the competition part of camp. And if you're going
- 1:11:30Speaker 17: to make the roster and not make the roster, it's
- 1:11:32Speaker 17: either going to be done in those ten days or
- 1:11:34Speaker 17: it's going to be done in the games.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: I think in those practices. How many of those will
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: be in pads?
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: Do you think for the joint practice?
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: Probably probably one? Four?
- 1:11:43Speaker 17: No, I think two.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: Do you think all of them will be yeah, four practice?
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: I think everyone we saw then yeah.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't see the walk through stuff generally, sometimes
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: we have. Most of the time we don't. That stuff
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: would be like the day before the game, right, not
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: in pads.
- 1:11:58Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: So we were talking too about Larrance guy though, like
- 1:12:01Speaker 7: what does a holding look like?
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: That's what I was just thinking about, Like does he
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: just sit in his locker? M Like nope, Nope, I'm
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: not I.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Would be twenty twenty, twenty twenty one Stefan Gilmour.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: That was a hold in Okay, he well.
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: He reported to camp on time, had an injury, and
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: had an injury.
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I see, But like for him, what was he
- 1:12:23Speaker 7: doing behind the scenes?
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: Was he just like refusing to do anything and just
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: sitting like.
- 1:12:27Speaker 17: I remember seeing in the cafeteria conditioning field quite a bit. Yeah,
- 1:12:30Speaker 17: so they were at least making him run. They were.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: He was that twenty it was twenty one, right, Yeah,
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: he didn't have pads on. They traded and they traded
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: him mid season to Carol, he got hurt.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: I'm losing my mind. Yeah.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: I think he opened the season on PUP.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: Yeah, COVID that year, COVID. You know.
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: That season's blur twenty one not twenty Yeah, I think
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: it was twenty one.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the phones. Is Tamara coming today?
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: No?
- 1:12:59Speaker 17: The girl there?
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: They got They went to Barbie. He got work to do,
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: they said. I asked, they went to Barbie.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: That was the last night? All right, it wasn't.
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: Let's get back to the age. Take an outline eight
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: five five past five hundred on the Buy a Toyota
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: Patriots Unfiltered show. Sean is in Vancouver. What's what's up? Sean?
- 1:13:18Speaker 23: Right off the top, Evan Mazle tough. If you haven't
- 1:13:22Speaker 23: seen the movie Diner, you should. At least this way
- 1:13:26Speaker 23: fiance would know from being married to a sports fan.
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: I agree with Sean. That's would be great for Evan
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: specific perfect. Give her a sports test before she flunked
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: the Colts test, and the wedding was off. The wedding
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: is off.
- 1:13:42Speaker 17: Nowadays. You don't do that to women. But that's pretentious
- 1:13:46Speaker 17: and sexist.
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: But all fine, you don't have to do it.
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: Fine, all right.
- 1:13:51Speaker 23: I have a couple of things from last week. Some Thursday,
- 1:13:55Speaker 23: Gerald and Grimsby, Ontario called in and talked about watching trying, Yeah,
- 1:14:00Speaker 23: watching the Patriots from Montreal. He grew up at the
- 1:14:02Speaker 23: same place I did in the seventies and eighties, but
- 1:14:05Speaker 23: he has a different memory than me because back then
- 1:14:08Speaker 23: the AFC was broadcast on NBC WBTZ from Plattsburgh, New York,
- 1:14:14Speaker 23: and they showed primarily Jets games, Baby Bill second, but
- 1:14:17Speaker 23: then a few Pats grown in. It was really frustrating.
- 1:14:20Speaker 23: I had to go to the top of Mount Royal
- 1:14:21Speaker 23: to pick up a Vermont Radio broadcast top covered and cheese.
- 1:14:28Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:14:29Speaker 23: So that was that. And then Dan from Virginia slash Michigan.
- 1:14:35Speaker 23: He asked if a team ever incrementally made it back
- 1:14:39Speaker 23: to contention status with the same coach, And the one
- 1:14:42Speaker 23: I can think of is Bill Kauer with the Steelers
- 1:14:44Speaker 23: in the nineties, because they were AFC champs when they
- 1:14:48Speaker 23: lost the Cowboys in ninety five. They're still good in
- 1:14:50Speaker 23: ninety six, ninety seven, but then they fell off in
- 1:14:53Speaker 23: ninety There were three straight years that didn't make the playoffs.
- 1:14:55Speaker 23: They were six and ten in ninety nine and then back,
- 1:14:59Speaker 23: that will qualify thirteen to three.
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that would definitely qualify. That's a good.
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: One, yeah, Cordels all right, And they got back to
- 1:15:08Speaker 7: this because even when they went, even when they were
- 1:15:11Speaker 7: good and good enough to advance in the playoffs, and
- 1:15:13Speaker 7: they ended up losing to Dallas that year, Like the
- 1:15:15Speaker 7: quarterback was no good Neil O'Donnell was not good, but they.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: Were they were a good team, Mark Malone. That's that's
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: the eighties. But maybe that's why. And then they moved
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: on from O'Donnell and had a hard time figuring it out.
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: And yeah, what were they played? Weren't they like fourteen?
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: And I don't know, no thirteen.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: No, Malone was like ninety five.
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Mark Malone played in the eighties. He might have played
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: like in the nineties, but nineties. His career was primarily
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: because I remember my pick I like him, Mark Malone. Yeah,
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: you know what what could have been maybe remembering my
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: confusing him with like Bubby Brister or.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: Someone like, oh that's another good one.
- 1:15:56Speaker 17: Yeah this this, let's look, let's look at this memory
- 1:15:59Speaker 17: that walk down memory lane.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: They're all in the Hall of Fame, by the way.
- 1:16:02Speaker 17: It just great players this is like Classic Sports Radio
- 1:16:06Speaker 17: that that des grinded my gears. But Matthew Slater mentioned
- 1:16:10Speaker 17: that one of Bill Belichick's big messages to the team
- 1:16:13Speaker 17: every year is that he wants to be a tough
- 1:16:15Speaker 17: football team, and he defines a tough football team as
- 1:16:19Speaker 17: being able to run the ball, being able to stop
- 1:16:22Speaker 17: the run, and being able to cover kicks.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: Now you see why I'm worried.
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: And there you go.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: Do you now see why I'm worried?
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Why kid also a tough football player?
- 1:16:30Speaker 17: Or team score points?
- 1:16:32Speaker 13: No?
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: But things?
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: That's you know, get off jams at the line, you know, blockwell,
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: protect your court. Like I think there's more to toughness
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: than those three elements.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: How about winning?
- 1:16:44Speaker 17: Yeah, that that was Those were the And it rolled
- 1:16:48Speaker 17: off Matthew Slater's tongue like it's such a belichick ism,
- 1:16:51Speaker 17: right like that he says it all the time. And
- 1:16:54Speaker 17: I know I'm like looking way too much into it,
- 1:16:56Speaker 17: but I also just I couldn't help but think, well,
- 1:16:59Speaker 17: that makes sense.
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: That's what you don't like.
- 1:17:01Speaker 17: It's everything that they invest in that doesn't win football
- 1:17:04Speaker 17: games anymore, and why they're in the spot there.
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: And this is why I'm concerned because I don't think
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: this is like the state that the team has found
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: itself in. I think this was by just this, this
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: is what he wants, Like he's investing in special teams
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: as special teams continue to get phased out of the
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: league because they were important in nineteen eighty.
- 1:17:24Speaker 17: He's paying Devon Godshaw and Lawrence Guy and you know
- 1:17:28Speaker 17: these run stuffing dns to play on first down.
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: Right, and Barmore is a sub player.
- 1:17:33Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: I mean there's been periodic times where the Chiefs absolutely
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: couldn't stop a nosebleed on the run. But yet they're
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: in the Super Bowl every year? Like does he think that, well,
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: they're not tough because I wouldn't describe necessarily the Chiefs
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: as a physical tough team, but I would describe them
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: as a mentally tough team.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: They're at their best when games are on the line
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: for the most part. By the way, Martin Malone nineteen
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: eighty to eighty nine, Wow, never made it.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: So he never made it to the nineties.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: Was he a coach?
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: He was like a broadcaster for a while.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: Maybe maybe that was he might have been broadcasting one
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: of our games. That must have been in the press box. Yeah.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: I don't know if he actually broadcasting games, but he
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: was like the talking heads on ESPN at one point.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: Because I distinctly remember, I like him. Josh is in Dallas.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: That's a weird guy.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: Like, what's up, Josh alone?
- 1:18:27Speaker 10: I want to get your thoughts on it feels like
- 1:18:30Speaker 10: the financial landscape of the league is changing a little bit.
- 1:18:34Speaker 10: And I could be wrong, but you guys have just
- 1:18:35Speaker 10: seen the evolution of even now at this point. Obviously
- 1:18:39Speaker 10: Saquon signed this morning, but you still got Zach Martin
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: and Chris Jones like guards and tackles that are holding
- 1:18:46Speaker 10: out to and it feels like a lot a lot
- 1:18:50Speaker 10: less of team friendly deals are happening, or you know,
- 1:18:54Speaker 10: the team discounts as as people say, it seems like
- 1:18:57Speaker 10: everybody just kind of wants to get paid, which I
- 1:18:59Speaker 10: don't blame him for that, but with Saquon talking about
- 1:19:03Speaker 10: how he feels like the players have leverage and the
- 1:19:05Speaker 10: owners feel like they have the leverage, it feels like
- 1:19:08Speaker 10: something's going to have to give at some point.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: It could be he gave up, it could be I
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: would just like, I don't put all of those things
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: in the same bucket. Like in other words, like to me,
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: Chris Jones is going to get paid at the top
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: of the market. That's a much different deal than the
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: other guy. You know, like Saquon Barkley's not going to
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: get you know this mega you know, eighty million guaranteed
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: running backs aren't going to get that. Chris Jones is.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: He's going to get paid kind of like Quinnin Williams
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: and Aaron Donald and the high market, you know, the
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: high priced defensive tackles, because he's worth that. And my
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: guess is they're probably trying to figure out a way
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: to get him in between those, you know, up maybe
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: not the highest, but somewhere up there. Zach Martin, I
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: think that's more of what what Josh is talking about,
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: like a center. He's good, really good, but we saw
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: what can happen when you go down that road here
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: with Joe Toney and Jack Mason.
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: I was watching ESPN. One one of the talking heads
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: today or might have been a NFL network, said that
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: there's like forty or fifty guys in the NFL that
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: make on average fifteen million a year, and only two
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: of them are running backs. Alvin Kamara and McCaffrey. That's it.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: Both catch the ball, yeah right, and yeah they're both
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: more receivers than running backs.
- 1:20:31Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean I believe it.
- 1:20:32Speaker 7: I just like I have like I don't want to
- 1:20:33Speaker 7: sound cold harder towards running backs, but I just don't
- 1:20:35Speaker 7: have sympathy.
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: That's the game. Like sorry, what like like kickers have
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: been dealing with this forever, Like they play in the league.
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: They don't get big count you know, like it is
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: what it is.
- 1:20:43Speaker 7: Like if you have a great couple of years, then
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: hold out and try to get that money then, But
- 1:20:48Speaker 7: I'm sorry, you can't like change the game and make
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: a special allotment so that running backs specifically are taken
- 1:20:53Speaker 7: care of properly.
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: Fan, I think there's a lot of things about the
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: CBA to sort of criticize in like the franchise tag
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: I think is one of them. The fact that it
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: hasn't been eliminated after all this time is amazing to me.
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: But I kind of agree with you.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: You're a larger point, like what is the league supposed
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: to do because the position requires so much wear and
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: tear that it's a very risky things. It's riskier on
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: a second or third contract for that position I think
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: than any other.
- 1:21:21Speaker 17: Okay, So I have a suggestion because I think about
- 1:21:23Speaker 17: this a lot for some reason. Okay, So how about
- 1:21:28Speaker 17: if it was a skill position tag, so wide receivers,
- 1:21:32Speaker 17: tight ends, and running backs all get averaged out into
- 1:21:36Speaker 17: the same.
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: So I'm going to tell you what that's going to
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: do to running backs.
- 1:21:40Speaker 17: They'll be free agents.
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: Saquon Barkley would be a free agent right now, right,
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: and so would Josh Jacobs.
- 1:21:45Speaker 17: And I think that that might benefit them because then
- 1:21:48Speaker 17: they had the open marketing here.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: No, no, no, I think right now they'd be free agents.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: No one would have signed them.
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: Oh you don't think anybody would have signed.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: On because no one wants to give them eleven million
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: that Barkley just gave them that the Barkley just signed for.
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: And now you're going to put that franchise number up
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: closer to twenty million if it's wide receivers all together
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: with running backs, so now it's twenty million. The Giants
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: ain't given them the tag at twenty million, right.
- 1:22:11Speaker 17: So the idea would be that it would get them
- 1:22:13Speaker 17: to the open market sooner.
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: So I think you'd be there. I absolutely think the.
- 1:22:17Speaker 17: Biggest problem is is that for running backs their prime
- 1:22:21Speaker 17: is like college and then like the first or second
- 1:22:24Speaker 17: year of their NFL careers and they don't hit unrestricted
- 1:22:27Speaker 17: free agency until they're like twenty six years old. So like,
- 1:22:30Speaker 17: if you want to try to fix the problem, well,
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: first of all, I think nil does kind of fix
- 1:22:35Speaker 17: the problem a little bit because like if Reggie Bush
- 1:22:38Speaker 17: could get well he did, so maybe bad example or
- 1:22:40Speaker 17: Reggie Bush, we're never able to capital but like Reggie
- 1:22:44Speaker 17: Bush now would legally get to capitalize them being Reggie Bush,
- 1:22:47Speaker 17: which would have made him a boatload of money at USC.
- 1:22:50Speaker 17: So maybe that does help. But the prime of a
- 1:22:53Speaker 17: running backs career is really like nineteen to twenty two
- 1:22:56Speaker 17: in terms of age.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: Well you know how they have the exception for first
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: round picks. Yeah, well they used to have an exception
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: for quarterbacks and it wasn't just like quarterbacks you could
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: sign for five years. What if they do the opposite
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: for running backs like they cannot when they were a
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: rookie for only a two year deal.
- 1:23:15Speaker 17: You know that's been floated. I think the issue is
- 1:23:18Speaker 17: is like then the other positions are like in two
- 1:23:21Speaker 17: years of what stops the safety or a tight end
- 1:23:24Speaker 17: or like you know, other positions.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: Every the data they last for five years in the league,
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: and you can, but everybody.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: Wants to get to free agency. It's not fair to
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: have some guys be able to do it quicker than others. Yeah,
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: that's Evan's point about changing the entirety of the CBA.
- 1:23:37Speaker 17: Right, Like the skill position tag is similar to like,
- 1:23:40Speaker 17: so linebackers, all linebackers, whether you're an off ball linebacker
- 1:23:43Speaker 17: or an outside linebacker, are just linebackers. Offensive linemen, whether
- 1:23:47Speaker 17: you're a tackle or an interior guy. The franchise tag
- 1:23:49Speaker 17: is just linement. So it's the same idea as how
- 1:23:53Speaker 17: they structure.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: I wouldn't be a.
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: Post that I just don't think it's going to fix
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: Barkley and Jacobs's problem because I think they're not going
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: to find a lot of takers.
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: Do I mean, do you think that the ship has
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: sailed to for running backs like forever in the NFL?
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: Like, is the going to be an evolution that val
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: My favorite big headed former co host Andy brought up
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: a point when we were on his podcast last week.
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: He thinks that you might start seeing you know, we
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: had Why can I not think of it?
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: Gibbs in.
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: Robinson in the first round this year, he thinks you
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: might see a little bit of a swing back to
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: more running backs taken in the first round, not because
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: of necessarily they're more valuable in the offenses, but by
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: doing that, you get fret like, at least you get
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: them now five years, you ride them, and you, like,
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: to Evan's point, that's their prime. That's it. So you
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: get the prime years, then you get that fifty year
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: if he's any good. That's like a franchise. You just
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: get that fifty then you let him go and then
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: get somebody else. It could happen like that. I personally
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: would not do that because you guys know, I'm a
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: I'm a running back yist.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: This one.
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: I mean running back.
- 1:25:05Speaker 17: It's your fault that say, Kwon Barkley's not It's not
- 1:25:08Speaker 17: my fault.
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: What about his family?
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: People eventually come around to my line of thought, But
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: that's not my fault.
- 1:25:12Speaker 13: I am not.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: I am not a thought. Uh you know, this is
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: a media provider, So what what is the what was
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: your solution?
- 1:25:21Speaker 7: I don't have one, and I don't really care, like
- 1:25:24Speaker 7: I mean, well that's I mean, you know, it's just
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: how the game goes.
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: I mean, I still you know, I do wonder. You know,
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: the game is cyclical and things do come around.
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: I mean, it's hard to see right now that it
- 1:25:34Speaker 7: isn't always going to be a passing first league that
- 1:25:37Speaker 7: it is now. But you know, at the same time,
- 1:25:39Speaker 7: I think the Patriots were one team it seemed like
- 1:25:41Speaker 7: and it didn't work. But you know when they took
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: Sony and you know, you talk about trying to build
- 1:25:45Speaker 7: a big, physical team, like you know, I think that
- 1:25:47Speaker 7: there is I mean that's always been I've said it before.
- 1:25:50Speaker 7: Like you know, they see defenses getting smaller and they
- 1:25:53Speaker 7: think that they can take advantage.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: Of John Hannah guys, Yeah, John Hannah talks about the well,
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: he used to be here a lot. He would talk
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: to Fred and me and Andy when we were here,
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: and he said, it's going to be cyclical. It's going
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: to come back all these undersized safeties playing linebacker. And
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: the solution for that is you're going to power up,
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: play multiple tight ends with a fullback.
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: And run it down their throats.
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: And I think when you see that you score twenty
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: points a game doing that, teams have said, well, that's
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: not you know, I just dominated I rushed for two
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: hundred and thirty yards and I didn't score any points.
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: Yeah, but did you win because you kept the ball
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: and kept the other team off the field.
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: Sometimes, Thank you Bill if you're Tennessee and Derek Henry's heyday. Yeah,
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: you won some regular season games, but I couldn't win
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: anything in the playoff.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: I could see, I could see it being cyclical and
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: you get back to running, but it's going to take
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: minimum fifteen years.
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: And it's a small window too.
- 1:26:44Speaker 7: I think just you know, for the backs alone that
- 1:26:46Speaker 7: you're you're talking about for them, but for the team
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: as well. If that's the building, and I mean if
- 1:26:51Speaker 7: if any team has tried it, it seems like it's
- 1:26:52Speaker 7: been the Patriots, and obviously it has.
- 1:26:54Speaker 17: So so the answer that I think to your question
- 1:26:56Speaker 17: of is it going to come back around? Ask your kids, Yeah,
- 1:27:00Speaker 17: they do they want to be played running back because?
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: Or do they want to catch the ball with one hand? Right?
- 1:27:05Speaker 17: Because? And gritty what what the problem is right now
- 1:27:08Speaker 17: is that there's too many good running backs. So all
- 1:27:11Speaker 17: these running backs like Saquon Barkley, there's a backup out
- 1:27:14Speaker 17: there that is eighty five percent as good as Saquon Barkley.
- 1:27:17Speaker 17: So why would we pay Saquon Barkley forty million dollars
- 1:27:20Speaker 17: guaranteed when we can draft Isaiah Pacheco in the seventh
- 1:27:23Speaker 17: round and he's just as good.
- 1:27:24Speaker 22: Right.
- 1:27:25Speaker 17: So the problem there's too many good running backs. So
- 1:27:28Speaker 17: if kids like your kids stop playing running back and
- 1:27:32Speaker 17: they start playing receiver because they want to be Odell
- 1:27:34Speaker 17: and Tyreek Hill and you know, make these ridiculous catches,
- 1:27:37Speaker 17: then eventually there's not going to be a lot of
- 1:27:38Speaker 17: good running backs. And maybe it will come back.
- 1:27:40Speaker 7: I saw somebody on Twitter floating like, would you, as
- 1:27:43Speaker 7: like a Division one prospect college football player, would you
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: switch sides of the ball and move to you know,
- 1:27:48Speaker 7: defensive end or a linebacker? Is you know, a chance
- 1:27:50Speaker 7: to get more stability? I mean, I don't know, I
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: don't know. I don't know what the answer is.
- 1:27:55Speaker 17: But I don't necessarily think it's like I don't think
- 1:27:57Speaker 17: the kids think of it like in terms of the
- 1:28:00Speaker 17: business obviously, So I think it's more so like what
- 1:28:03Speaker 17: what gets propped up like on highlights and like what
- 1:28:07Speaker 17: do they see and what who's cool? And like who's
- 1:28:09Speaker 17: like it?
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: Like what you see it in the high school game,
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: like and I can just sort of relate to the
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: high schools that I've been watching lately. The best player
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: on our high school team for five years has not
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: been a running back. It's either the quarterback or his
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: top receiver.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: But is he a running quarterback?
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: Not necessarily. They do run at times, but it's a
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: spread offense and they throw it all over the place. Okay,
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: that's how Like seven on seven's we just hosted the tournament,
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: you know before we got the death penalty, and we
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: just hosted the tournament at Fenwick and like it's it's
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: just amazing because I was like, literally fifty sixty teams.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm watching that Super Bowl with Central. They're always
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: good and their quarterback and balls in his hand every
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: play and.
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: Like, yeah, rarely make it.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: Make a play, Yeah, he would just make a play,
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: would just run.
- 1:29:00Speaker 7: Well it was I'll give you my old high school.
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: They run like and it's not all the time, but
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: they run a lot of single wing. Like they just
- 1:29:06Speaker 7: have this package they call it their war package, where
- 1:29:08Speaker 7: it's everybody in tight and they run that package from
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: the time they're in middle school.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: So they are good.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: They are good, but that they.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: Must beat up on smaller schools. But they But but
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: you're not dead serious, Like no one plays like that anymore.
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: No, No, But but it's it's specific, you know, like
- 1:29:22Speaker 7: it's just you know, at certain times they're going to it.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: Hey for years, that's whatever I did. But it's so
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: on point, you know, So it's a fit, was so
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: well drilled, well, you know, just it was a machine.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: And then he completely changed. Coincidentally, when his son was
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: getting ready to take over his quarterback they changed that.
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: In the book. No, this is Evert, I know in
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: your book from Everett from ever ever Evert to Everest's
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: the Paul Perilla story.
- 1:29:47Speaker 17: But I do remember, like I think this is more
- 1:29:49Speaker 17: like when t bow first happened, but ten or so
- 1:29:53Speaker 17: years ago, that high school coaches would talk about, well,
- 1:29:56Speaker 17: we used to put the best athlete at running back
- 1:29:59Speaker 17: and he would only touched the ball fifty percent of
- 1:30:01Speaker 17: the time. And then we realized, oh, if he plays
- 1:30:03Speaker 17: quarterback now he touches the ball all the time, and like, well,
- 1:30:06Speaker 17: it can still run them. We'll train him to throw
- 1:30:08Speaker 17: like that. You know, he can get him. He's a
- 1:30:10Speaker 17: good athlete, he's a big, strong kid. We'll be able
- 1:30:12Speaker 17: to get him to throw. And that's how you've seen
- 1:30:15Speaker 17: all these running quarterbacks is because they were like, well,
- 1:30:17Speaker 17: he's the best player on the team, so why are
- 1:30:19Speaker 17: we playing them at receiver and running back?
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: And the only teams that have a high level of
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: success playing sort of traditional football, of the biggest like
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Saint John's Prep, can still they just have bigger kids,
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: They have more kids, and they just overpower you, and
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: they can line up and run the ball every play.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: They don't have to have a great quarterback, but most
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: of the teams don't have those kinds of numbers, so
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: you have to find a way in what they've done.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: And I actually was talking to one of the coaches
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: the other day about this. I forget the specific school
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: that he mentioned, but it's not important. They were he
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: took over, and for like three years they were like
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: seven and four. They were good, but he couldn't be
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: the better teams. And he was like Jesus, you know,
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: like I feel like I'm bigger up front. I'm pushing
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: them around, you know. And he talked to somebody and
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: they were like, he went to like this camp in
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: Connecticut and it was all of this stuff that Evans
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: and I are talking about with spreads and quarterbacks that
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: are athletes, making the plays, ball in the hands and
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: finding a way to do it was all speed oriented.
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: And then they came back and was like I got
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: to try to find the fastest kids that I have
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: and get them into these roles. And then he became
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: a super Bowl team every year.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: Can Bill go to that meeting.
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: And and Matthew Slater just told him. Why I'm worried
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: because Matthew Slater is basically telling you he thinks this
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: is I think he thinks that this is the easy
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: way out, Like, yeah, you could score more points because
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: you're tricking me and you're running past me. You got
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: to run over me to be a man, Like that's
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: what I You know, I'm obviously exaggerating. I hope that
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: I'm obviously exaggerating to make the point I mean, but
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: I do think this if given his druthers, he'd rather
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: play really good defense, run the ball, be tough. On
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: third and three, we can line up with a full
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: back and just run for the first down and win
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: twenty to seventeen. I think that's what he wants to do.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: Let's go to Aki in Canada. I hope I'm saying
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: your name right, what's up A key? A key in Canada?
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: You there a key a key? Nope?
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: All right, well show right here.
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: Let's go to some of the emails. John writes in
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: I was reading an article about the rules for Hard Knocks.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: We were talking about that earlier teams can decline if
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: they haven't made the playoffs in two years, have a
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: new coach, or have already been on the show over
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: the past decade. It occurred to me that if the
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Patriots don't make the playoffs this year, and if Belichick
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: isn't fired, it seems very likely the NFL could choose
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: the Patriots for twenty twenty four. Even if it were
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: over the Patriots objections, as was the case with the Jets,
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: the storylines would be too irresistible. My question is what
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: storylines do you think Bill Belichick would retire before going
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: on Hard Knocks.
- 1:33:07Speaker 17: I don't think the Patriots are is as attractive of
- 1:33:09Speaker 17: a Hard Knocks candidate as the emailer does.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: I don't, but I think that they would be. Oh,
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I think they would be on. I think the NFL
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: would want it.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the NFL would want well for the organization,
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: I think it's one of the marquee franchises in the league, right.
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: Fred, Yeah, no, not really, just agree, agree.
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: To take a great Paul?
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: Uh, Yeah, I don't.
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: I mean I don't think he would retire over it,
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: but I wouldn't be surprised toss the way they avoid it.
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: I mean, you gotta paint.
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: I mean they so they missed the playoffs, so they
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: had a you know, a bad year if they missed
- 1:33:43Speaker 7: the playoffs.
- 1:33:44Speaker 17: Yeah, Like, it's unless they missed the play and I
- 1:33:47Speaker 17: hope this doesn't happen, so don't take it this way.
- 1:33:49Speaker 17: But unless they stink and like Caleb Williams is the
- 1:33:52Speaker 17: quarterback next year or something like that. I just so
- 1:33:55Speaker 17: a team that has missed the playoffs in back to
- 1:33:57Speaker 17: back years, it's quarterback by Mac Jones. I'd like, what's
- 1:34:01Speaker 17: the I see what's the draw you're saying.
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: I don't think there's a draw for really any of these.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: I think Hard Knocks has long since pastes expiration date.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: Don't I really agree with that?
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: And I watch it.
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: I'm not telling you.
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: I don't. I never, I don't.
- 1:34:14Speaker 17: I don't watch it.
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: I don't watch it. Regularly, but I've seen it.
- 1:34:17Speaker 7: Well it's it's much about the wags, the wives and
- 1:34:19Speaker 7: girlfriends and the families and stuff that, you know, the
- 1:34:22Speaker 7: off the field stuff and you know all that, like.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: You believe he's going to be gone from because you
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: can't give anything that any right they switched to that
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: no offense to I'm not surprised that all that Evan
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: has no use because it has nothing to do with football.
- 1:34:33Speaker 17: Yeah, horrible, Well it was the first thing.
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: I don't want to see guys get cut.
- 1:34:36Speaker 17: To be honest with you, nothing against anybody, but like
- 1:34:38Speaker 17: I don't you need to see your kids playing in
- 1:34:40Speaker 17: your pool at your house.
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: Like say by to daddy.
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: He's going to be gone for a month.
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not going off to war. He's going to
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: play football and make millions and.
- 1:34:49Speaker 17: He's going to come home for ninety teams. He comes
- 1:34:52Speaker 17: home any night.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: Yeah, like so, and you know the money comes home.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: So that's Kevin and Dublin. Uh, it's that time of
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: year again, the first of many times we'll hear the
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: phrase now football is really back, and then again at
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: the Hall of Fame game, and then again at the
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: first preseason weekend, and then again after the final preseason game,
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: then again once roster cuts are announced, and then the
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: Chiefs home opener, before it's uttered for the final time
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: at the first Sunday of the regular season. Then it
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: switches to now real football starts at various points up
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: until the conference championship weekend.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: You're going to take this the NFL.
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: The NFL world is filled with these annoying bug bears
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I've never heard of. I want I want to know
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: what NFL isms do the PU crew hate the most. Paul,
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: you love it because you established the iron iron sharpens.
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: Oh wait, are you talking about phrases or things that
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: they invent as being important important? I think that whole
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: email is just dead on. They do do what he
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: just talked about. They definitely do that. They talk about everything.
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: How many times on your Twitter thing do you do
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: you get a count down on how many days before
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: football starts?
- 1:36:04Speaker 17: I mean, we do it, but it's cool because we
- 1:36:06Speaker 17: use the player's numbers, like you know, like today, like
- 1:36:08Speaker 17: the other day, it was like fifty five days. So
- 1:36:10Speaker 17: it's Joshu jay highlights.
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: They make these and that's the teams. And I'm not
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: saying it because of us, but teams creating content with
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: their players. That's totally different the NFL claiming that, like
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: we're breathlessly waiting for the next draft and where's that's
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: gonna take place. People don't care. They care about the
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: draft and what guys they take, but like they do
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: everything as if it's a monumental event. Just the fact
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: that they capitalize the words irritates me. A training camp
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: gets capitalized, No it doesn't.
- 1:36:41Speaker 17: But I still want to know you capitalize it.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I still don't. I still want to know what is
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: a bugbear?
- 1:36:46Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: Sorry for the ramp along those lines.
- 1:36:51Speaker 7: Paul Orlando will host the twenty twenty four Pro Bowl Game.
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: I know you're waiting to you to hear.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: That I'm released. They did like they did have any
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: you see that they like the numbers off of the
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: television ratings. Oh my god, everything is the highest rated
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: thing in the history of ratings, everything, like every single draft,
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: preseason game, Hall of Fame. Like it's insufferable some of
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: the things that they try to make out to be important.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: But what about things like establish the run, the combine.
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: I want the combine on TV.
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: I love the combine.
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: Yeah, careful, then you should stay home and watch it
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: because you can't see it where you are.
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: But I think I think he's talking about like these
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: sayings or.
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: Yeah, well this is the run established, the run defense
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: beats offense.
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: Defense wins, championship, defense wins cheap.
- 1:37:45Speaker 17: I'm sorry, but I'm a sucker for the first I'm sorry.
- 1:37:49Speaker 17: I love it. Like tomorrow, it'll be like Christmas morning
- 1:37:52Speaker 17: for me, like first day of training camp practice. That's great.
- 1:37:55Speaker 17: Then Monday will be another Christmas morning because the first
- 1:37:58Speaker 17: day of pads.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: I'll look forward to Monday.
- 1:38:00Speaker 17: Yeah, like guilty, first preseason game, first regular season game,
- 1:38:06Speaker 17: like all that's that's.
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: Fun about the third preseason game. Evan, No, I look.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: Forward to the third preseason You've been on the road.
- 1:38:13Speaker 17: For two weeks, one preseason game and then the two
- 1:38:16Speaker 17: and three.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: I could do it that, but for completely selfish reasons that.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: Let's go to Paul again because no one because no one.
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: Else knows he's on the field.
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: Discamp front, William says, who are you most excited to
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: see tomorrow? It's my first time at training camp with
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: my son, and he's really excited to watch Judah. I'm
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: personally excited to see how Bill o'bryan's offense is gelling
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: and how Mac and the guys are doing with offensive chemistry.
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: Also looking forward to seeing the rookies on defense, especially Mapu. Lastly,
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: you guys should sell those Patriots Unfiltered T shirts. They
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: are awesome. How can we go about getting one?
- 1:38:54Speaker 7: Well, if you're gonna be a camp, just just be
- 1:38:57Speaker 7: aware because people are gonna have them. I mean I said,
- 1:38:59Speaker 7: I grab a couple when when we go up and
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: do it to hype Man right when I look out
- 1:39:03Speaker 7: for Yeah, did you get your gun?
- 1:39:05Speaker 8: No?
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: That was that expense was not approved for what fourteen
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: dollars four? One of those things.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: You just made that up.
- 1:39:12Speaker 17: I don't know they were expense, but they are.
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: I mean, you know, it depends if you want the
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: full clip, you want to like, you know, single load,
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: like easy Jack, I mean the stage.
- 1:39:25Speaker 7: But we can just throw them, oh yeah, or I
- 1:39:27Speaker 7: just say I said, I'll have a bunch and then
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: after we do it, I'll walk through the crowd out
- 1:39:31Speaker 7: in the back and.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: You embarrass anyone that recognizes Deuce gets a T shirt.
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: I'll be the guy with the T shirts. That's how
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: you'll know. But yeah, we'll get we'll get some out there,
- 1:39:41Speaker 5: for sure. I'm excited to see Jujuice, Missuster. I just
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: want to see, you.
- 1:39:45Speaker 7: Know, as Paul said, and during during OTAs, things that
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: you can actually tell from when they're just out there
- 1:39:49Speaker 7: and you know, not in full uniform or hitting anything
- 1:39:51Speaker 7: like that. Just has he full uniform out where's he
- 1:39:54Speaker 7: kind of playing when they're running through some you know
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: seven on seven, eleven on eleven stuff that that's I
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: just want to see how he fits in.
- 1:40:01Speaker 17: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: I want to see Gonzo, see how he looks.
- 1:40:04Speaker 12: Don't get too excited at that, Fred like just no,
- 1:40:06Speaker 12: but all the stuff the email said, I'm looking forward
- 1:40:08Speaker 12: to all of that Bill O'Brien and Mack Jock relationship,
- 1:40:11Speaker 12: you know, Gonzales Mapu, those guys that you you know,
- 1:40:14Speaker 12: all of that.
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: That's that's always what I'm interested in camp, anything new,
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: And in this particular case, obviously the offense is Yeah,
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: the first.
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: Few days, it's hard to get amped about defense too,
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: because they're not you know, I mean, the cornerbacks will
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: have some coverage drills probably, but you're not going to
- 1:40:30Speaker 7: see anything out of Chiome White the next three days
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: probably other than.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: He was out there. This is where he was.
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: But you know, once the once the one on one
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: start happening and all that, that's when you can see
- 1:40:39Speaker 7: those guys a little bit better.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: Ah, let's see lots of lots of emails Tim and
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: West Virginia. All the talk about missing on Hopkins and
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: no other number one ride receiver in the fold. Who
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: else is out there? They might target free agents like
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: Jarvis Landry or Julio Jones to add veteran depth or
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: any trade target gets or do they just roll with
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: what they have?
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: Yeah, Jalen heard that's what they got.
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: Roll, that's what they got.
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: They're at ninety now, So I mean until an injury
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: or somebody stinks or fails a test or something like that,
- 1:41:11Speaker 7: I am not really interested in any I mean, there's
- 1:41:13Speaker 7: nothing out there that would move my Salladay is still available,
- 1:41:16Speaker 7: has he hasn't really done anything in a couple of years.
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: He was busted for the Giants.
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: I don't think.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: I definitely am not interested in Julio as great as
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: he was. I just think he's done and Jarvis Landry
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: kind of similar. I think he was a good, tough
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: slot receiver. Who's so Evan's a shelf life on that position.
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: Before you got here, we were also discussing about, you know,
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: the offense, and you know, there's that line of thinking that, oh,
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: you know, without a true wide receiver one, you can't
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: really judge Mac. But we were also saying you could,
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: you could do the other side of that and say
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: you can get a better judgment of Mac without the
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: wide receiver one. What what what's in him?
- 1:41:53Speaker 10: What?
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: What does he have to step up? How does he
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: you know, what side of the fence you on?
- 1:41:58Speaker 17: I don't agree with that because I'm on the side
- 1:42:00Speaker 17: of the fence of like, why do we have to
- 1:42:03Speaker 17: make it harder on the quarterback just for him to
- 1:42:04Speaker 17: prove himself?
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: No, no, but I don't say we have to do that.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: But in just terms of analysis, what will give you
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: a better idea of who is this guy?
- 1:42:14Speaker 17: I think if you have the receiver? Really yeah, because
- 1:42:18Speaker 17: when you really look at it, like who doesn't have
- 1:42:20Speaker 17: the receiver? Like who who do we put in the
- 1:42:23Speaker 17: category of like elite quarterbacks that doesn't have an elite
- 1:42:27Speaker 17: pass catcher that he's also throwing to, And I mean
- 1:42:31Speaker 17: mahomes Hays Kelsey, like Alan has Digs Hurts, has AJ Brown,
- 1:42:37Speaker 17: Lamar has Mark Andrews, Like I can't really find a
- 1:42:41Speaker 17: guy that's like truly in that conversation that isn't throwing
- 1:42:46Speaker 17: to a guy that's also making Pro Bowls and getting
- 1:42:49Speaker 17: all Pro votes, Like it's just yeah, but doesn't necessarily have.
- 1:42:52Speaker 7: To be Like and you know, I know that there's
- 1:42:54Speaker 7: a line between who made who and the quarterback you know,
- 1:42:57Speaker 7: can raise the level of a guy who maybe you know,
- 1:42:59Speaker 7: in a vacuum you take say you know, I don't know,
- 1:43:02Speaker 7: and a J. Brown as he as good like Ryan Tannehill,
- 1:43:06Speaker 7: Like didn't you know what I mean pop with him?
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: Like I don't know.
- 1:43:08Speaker 7: I guess what I'm getting at is like you might
- 1:43:10Speaker 7: not necessarily know you have the number one? Like did
- 1:43:12Speaker 7: you know Travis Kelce was a number one threat weapon
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: in the NFL before it all kind of came together?
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: Would anyone really pitch that he's the number one?
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: Is hannahell half that year that he led the league
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: and passer rating with AJ Browns?
- 1:43:24Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:43:24Speaker 17: Probably, I don't know at second.
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: That's why I'm on the other side from Evan. I'm
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: with Fred. What what Fred didn't introduce at the beginning,
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: and you immediately talked about we all wanted them to
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: get happy. Yeah, we all wanted them to do as
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: much as they could to help the quarterback. Where I
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: stopped short is well, now they they left, you know,
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: they left Mac Oldry. Just now we won't be able
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: to find out about it. I know if he could play,
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: there are NFL players on the field that he's going
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: to be throwing the ball to. Maybe he's not as
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: good as he could be if you had that, but
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: you should be able to find out. That's the only
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: thing that I sort of took exception to. I agree,
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: and I think that you've seen that with with some guys.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: I think Tannehill showed you he can be better with
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: great talent around him. When Derrick Henry was was going,
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: and I think that year A J.
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Brown was there, but ultimately it was what it was
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: with him.
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: Yeah, even with me, Well, you know what, it might
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: not have been the same year.
- 1:44:20Speaker 17: I forget I think it was. But I agree with
- 1:44:24Speaker 17: you wholeheardly that I I no longer let me put
- 1:44:27Speaker 17: you this way. I'm no longer going to make any
- 1:44:28Speaker 17: excuses for Mac. Last year I made all the excuses
- 1:44:31Speaker 17: under the sun. I blame because the coaching was so.
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: Bad, right, and what did Jim Harbaugh get suspended.
- 1:44:37Speaker 17: For recruiting violations? The coaching was so bad that.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: I think their swimming team should not be allowed to
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: play in the playoffs. Oh, go ahead, sorry, but I'm
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: not going to make excuses for him because of the talent. Like,
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: I think their skill positions are okay. I think their
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: offensive line is okay. And I think if he was
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: a top five quarterback, and like if he was Patrick Mahomes,
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: then they would be a top five offense. I wouldn't
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: have any concerns if they had great play from the quarterback.
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that was our where we fell is.
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: This is not a season for excuses for Mac. He's
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: got to do it. He's got enough where you know,
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: I agree that we should be able to know who
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: he is.
- 1:45:26Speaker 7: Fred real quick, I'm just going to jump in because
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: I got an email and maybe for some of our
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: listeners who are planning on going to training camp, it
- 1:45:31Speaker 7: sounds like it's going to start a little bit earlier tomorrow.
- 1:45:33Speaker 7: It's going to actually start at nine to fifteen am tomorrow.
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: So I know people will generally be there, but things
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: just got moved up. It looks like about fifteen minutes.
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: So all right, Matt, did you hear that? So we'll
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: start our show at nine, you know, and.
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: Deuce hype train and tomorrow will be eight forty one
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: for those who are interested.
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: Okay, warming up the crowd.
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: You have your wardrobe, I think so well, thanks to you,
- 1:45:57Speaker 7: we got some fancy new polos.
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: I came to you, you gave you gave me my
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: look sharp. Are we going whites tomorrow or I'm.
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: Going I'm going white white? I will avoid that blue
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: one as long as I can.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: Paul doesn't like the blue one because of the stripes
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: at the.
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: Bottom horizontal stripes nineteen ninety four, called they want their
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: shirt back.
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: Pat Nagua, says Evan. I'm an ordained minister in the
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I performed a wedding for one of
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: my old friends last month. It would be my honor
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: to a lope.
- 1:46:28Speaker 17: You and just to a lope there you go, Sorry, Patty.
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: I liked having them.
- 1:46:32Speaker 9: Also an ordained minister, Ivan, are you really that one?
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: I might take you up on YadA YadA YadA.
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: You're married.
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: Literally, you're an ordained minister.
- 1:46:41Speaker 9: Doing one in September marry my cousin?
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: Why? Why is justice to the piece?
- 1:46:46Speaker 9: My friends asked me to do it back in twenty fifteen,
- 1:46:48Speaker 9: and it's still eligible for us.
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so what did you have to do to
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: become an ordained minister?
- 1:46:53Speaker 9: It's like twenty five dollars and then fill out the
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: paperwork online.
- 1:46:55Speaker 17: So I I married my sister and her husband, but
- 1:47:00Speaker 17: I only got ordained for the day. I didn't get
- 1:47:02Speaker 17: the one where so I'm no longer almost married.
- 1:47:06Speaker 9: Yourself had to go look to make sure it was
- 1:47:07Speaker 9: still valid, and it is so interesting.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: Huhrd I have a passport?
- 1:47:12Speaker 17: What does that get me to Germany?
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: Ryan writes in it seems like ten years ago you
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: could build a team in a variety of ways, but
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: now you need a top ten quarterback in wide receiver
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: to compete regularly. We've established the dismissed value of running backs,
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: an interior offensive lineman. You've said yourselves that defense isn't
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: gonna win it for you, and special teams are seemingly
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: on the way out. Is the game changing for the worse?
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: Is there anything that could be done? Or was this inevitable?
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: With all the rule changes for safety for the worst.
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 1:47:44Speaker 7: I think it's a fun game to watch now, it's
- 1:47:46Speaker 7: I mean, it's you know, I'd much rather watch schematically.
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: This is for you, Frederick on your argument. Yeah, and
- 1:47:53Speaker 4: this is where I might be more on your side.
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: I think there's a lot that's better. And I said
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: that at the time when we talked about it. For
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: the things that that might just say, I think there's
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: there's more of an entertaining entertainment value to it. But
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: I I think it should be like did you ever
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: watch a game when the team you're rooting for is
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: leading by like two, and the other team's going to
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: have the ball with a minute thirty left and think
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: we got this one? Like you never think you're gonna
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: come up with that stop.
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: No, Like it should be.
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: It should be hardier to stop somebody or hard.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: Okay, but does that scenario now where you don't think
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: you can get does that make it more exciting that
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: this team has a chance they've got the ball.
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: You can make an argument it's more exciting, you know.
- 1:48:36Speaker 7: I don't know, But is that how the game is
- 1:48:37Speaker 7: evolved or is that just how good quarterbacks are now
- 1:48:40Speaker 7: and how difficult it is to play defense, like has
- 1:48:42Speaker 7: the game you know what, like are the players driving
- 1:48:45Speaker 7: that or was this like the league driving it with
- 1:48:47Speaker 7: the way that they've tweaked the game.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: I mean, I think they go hand in hand.
- 1:48:51Speaker 7: But you know it's Tom Brady's of the world, the
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: Patrick Mahomes of the world that until the clock.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: Reads zero, you don't know that you got the think.
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: I think it's both.
- 1:49:00Speaker 17: I think that you know on that you guys would
- 1:49:03Speaker 17: know the history of football a little bit better than me.
- 1:49:05Speaker 17: But I think the quarterback play right now is as
- 1:49:07Speaker 17: good as it's ever been. And I agree at some
- 1:49:10Speaker 17: point it's hard to stop these guys.
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: I think the guys, especially in that middle tier, the
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: guys that you don't think are that great, Mac Jones,
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins is at a much higher level
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: than that guy used to be twenty years ago, and
- 1:49:25Speaker 4: that guy twenty years ago you thought was a stiff.
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: And what might be contributing to it is I think
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: offensive coaches are better, Like you know, this emergence of
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: these new offenses. I think coaches are coaching more sophisticated
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: offenses these days. Better.
- 1:49:43Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, you know, I was watching coaching clinic the
- 1:49:45Speaker 17: other day and it was at the defensive coordinator at
- 1:49:48Speaker 17: a prominent high school, and he was just saying, there's
- 1:49:52Speaker 17: just there's only so many defenses, Like there's only so
- 1:49:55Speaker 17: many ways to play defense and how to line up,
- 1:50:00Speaker 17: and there's only so many ways to blitz and cover
- 1:50:03Speaker 17: and like all these types of things. But offensively, there's
- 1:50:06Speaker 17: so many different ways to move the ball in terms
- 1:50:09Speaker 17: of like what you can do to scheme it up.
- 1:50:12Speaker 17: And that's what makes it hard is that defense is predictable,
- 1:50:16Speaker 17: Like at the end of the day, it's they know
- 1:50:18Speaker 17: where the holes are and they know what they're trying
- 1:50:21Speaker 17: to take away. And good coordinators can sit up in
- 1:50:23Speaker 17: the booth on the sideline and say, Okay, they're playing
- 1:50:25Speaker 17: us this way and that's gonna leave this open. So
- 1:50:28Speaker 17: we're just gonna keep hitting it until they adjust, and
- 1:50:30Speaker 17: then they adjust, and then there's an adjustment, right, and
- 1:50:32Speaker 17: it goes back and forth. But I think for defensive
- 1:50:35Speaker 17: coaches it's like, well, what's we can't have a twelve guy,
- 1:50:38Speaker 17: so like, what's what's the next time.
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: Unless you have a couple supremely talented guys on defense,
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: who you know just are just disrupted.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: Well, it's like it's it's the same as offense. Like
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: I think the email said quarterback and a top receiver.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: I think you absolutely positively have to have an elite
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: pass rusher and an elite cover guy one of each. Now,
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: if all you have is one of each, is still
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: probably going to be in trouble. But you have to
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: disrupt the timing because everything is timing, So you need
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: to figure out a way to disrupt the timing and
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: you have to be able to cover a little bit.
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51:13Speaker 7: Well that's and I've been think a lot about Detroit
- 1:51:15Speaker 7: for some reason, just because you brought him up. I mean, Akudah,
- 1:51:18Speaker 7: they drafted him. Then they went, you know, got Aiden Hutchinson.
- 1:51:21Speaker 7: They've got Jamison Williams. They went and got Gibbs this year,
- 1:51:23Speaker 7: which seemed like to surprise people, but.
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: They based a linebacker guy, what's the linebacker's name that
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: they got in the first round?
- 1:51:30Speaker 17: Two came from Iowa?
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: Iowa.
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: Oh come on, what do I send you guys to
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: the combine for?
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 1:51:37Speaker 17: Jack Campbell?
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: Jack Campbell?
- 1:51:38Speaker 7: Thank yeah, yeah a second. But it seems like, you know,
- 1:51:42Speaker 7: you look at what they're doing, and like, based on
- 1:51:44Speaker 7: the conversation we've been having over the last two hours,
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: it's like, you know, I kind of get what they're doing.
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: I mean, they're hitting the positions you talked about, they're
- 1:51:51Speaker 7: hitting Alabama weapons, you know, and their quarterback he is
- 1:51:54Speaker 7: what he is, but they're trying at least to do
- 1:51:56Speaker 7: and he played.
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: Well last year. I think he had like twenty nine
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: and seven last year. Yeah, I mean it's I'll take
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: that's another example, like that guy is a complete and
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: total stiff, but twenty years ago, yeah, but now he's
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: like the fifteenth, eighteenth quarterback in the league, and he
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: threw twenty nine touchdowns in seven picks.
- 1:52:13Speaker 7: And they're making an effort to put elite weapons around him,
- 1:52:17Speaker 7: even if it's you know, Jamior Gibbs, who's kind of
- 1:52:19Speaker 7: a you know, running back hybrid type.
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: But still like they're they're trying to do the San
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: Francisco thing, which you know, I just I think they're
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: a team to watch.
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: Bob and Wilmington, North Carolina. This is the first year
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: that I haven't yelled at the schedule makers for screwing
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: the Patriots. No stupid back to back on the West
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: Coast and ninety percent of our first eleven games put
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: our opponents on short weeks or coming off a road game.
- 1:52:40Speaker 17: They want the banking back on the West Coast.
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: We even get the Chiefs after our mini bye after
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: we go to Pittsburgh on Thursday. Because of these factors,
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: the Patriots will go eight and three to start the
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: season finish eleven and six, including a win against Kansas City.
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: Do you think travel in short weeks actually affect a team's.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: Performance travel travel, Yes, But just to be clear, the
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: Patriots have requested West Coast.
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: Back to back games so that they don't have to travel.
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: So they don't have to travel as much. It's just
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: a typical but her Patriots fan who always wants to
- 1:53:18Speaker 4: blame not.
- 1:53:19Speaker 17: To like, not woe is me, because I'm not doing that.
- 1:53:23Speaker 17: But last year is my first year traveling to pretty
- 1:53:26Speaker 17: much every single game and like doing the whole thing,
- 1:53:29Speaker 17: and it is a lot, and like I think it
- 1:53:32Speaker 17: would be a lot honestly though, my point is regardless
- 1:53:36Speaker 17: of where we were going, like, I don't think it
- 1:53:38Speaker 17: was anymore to go to to a longer like you're
- 1:53:42Speaker 17: on this like charter flight.
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: First of all, I disagree those night games on the road.
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: That's fair night road games they take.
- 1:53:52Speaker 17: Definitely, that's a good point. Definitely a factor like Minnesota
- 1:53:56Speaker 17: on Thanksgiving night and then near it back at like
- 1:53:58Speaker 17: four o'clock in the morning. Yeah, that's bad, just out
- 1:54:00Speaker 17: of curiously, like Fred, like, why why don't we stay
- 1:54:04Speaker 17: another night like in those situations.
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good question. I think just the teams
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: want to get back so they can start the week,
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: you know, the next week, because Monday, they come in
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: on Monday, it's a recovery day. They're told to lift
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: after a game. That's the best way to recover, not
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: just go home and sit around. You got to keep
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: those muscles going. So they're all they all have to
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: come in on Monday. Well, they have victory Monday later
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: in the season, but even then, guys on their own
- 1:54:30Speaker 3: come in and lift just it's better for your body,
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: and then Tuesday you kind of take it off.
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I do think about that a lot though,
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Whateveran just said, because it is bizarre. You know, like
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: when you're play in the Jets or the Bills, especially
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: those ni kids, that's that doesn't matter. But like if
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: you're playing Arizona, you know, would you be better off?
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: You know, and I know there's a lot of people
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: that your studies on this stuff that you know, the
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: sleep and where you sleep and how and all that stuff.
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: Would you be better off staying overnight sleeping and coming
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: home in the morning. Would you more productive? I think
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: you could still come home and you know, go right
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: into the facility.
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I suppose, But I hate it. I hate it.
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: I just I used to be able to, like because
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: we did overnights all the time. Right when we did
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: the paper. We we sometimes we were up later than.
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: The players were all pro you know, I don't know
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: how you guys like.
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: A night game. We wouldn't be leaving here until six
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: seven in the morning.
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: Now many times I've driven home while it's light out
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: against traffic.
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: It's tough.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: So we used to do it all the time, and
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: I could do it. I can't do it anymore.
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: You could, definitely, you could not do it with your
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: current commute. Oh not Yeah, you used to do it
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: when you live five minutes away.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: Right, I just can't do it anymore.
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: I don't know how you got that. Going through some
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: of those papers recently, like there's so.
- 1:55:43Speaker 7: Layered and so much going on and the layout and
- 1:55:45Speaker 7: I'm like, how did anyone even conceptualize this much less on?
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: Like no sleep?
- 1:55:50Speaker 17: Wow, that was a very nice compliments.
- 1:55:53Speaker 7: Don't you think that was one of the nicest things,
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: especially like after a game, like and you have to
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: write like because like I'm like, Paul wrote this, Brian
- 1:56:00Speaker 7: wrote this, Paul wrote this too, like how are they
- 1:56:03Speaker 7: even dividing this up?
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: Like how did you even know who was writing what?
- 1:56:05Speaker 7: And then you had enough, well you get the whole newspaper.
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: We had to figure it out the game story, the
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: notes and how they scored. One guy did and the
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: other guy would do like an analysis kind of a piece.
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: I would pick out all the photos, but you write
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: the captions for.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: Them, and we would switch like one week you did
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: one of those jobs, the next week you did the
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: other job.
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: We also had the quote board. You had to do
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: the analysis and the quote board a.
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: Lot everything else was done before the game, dude.
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: Yeah, oh yeah, so it's kind of ready to go.
- 1:56:43Speaker 4: Stories in the analysis in the first time and stuff
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: like that. That's all done by Friday.
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: If it was Yeah, if it was a forty page paper,
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: like we'd have like twenty four pages done more than
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: in the game, maybe more.
- 1:56:54Speaker 7: Than you gotta write sixteen pages in like four.
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: Hours the game.
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: The game was always seven a seven page This is
- 1:57:00Speaker 4: how many times I did the layout. The game was
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: always a seven page spread. Then you'd have like the
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: NFL stats in the back that's all automated, all automated.
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: That was a page Fred's edit letter. We used to
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: have to do them for page three. And so there
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: was probably like probably like twelve probably like twelve pages
- 1:57:21Speaker 4: or so that we were we were left for the
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: So we didn't do all the layout either.
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: We had Michelle and Moore to.
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: But we would have to write it to make it fit,
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: and then we'd have to wait for her to lay
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: it out. Then we'd have to proofread it. Yeah, so
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: our work wasn't done until it was.
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: But we did get to the point where any road
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: game we were done writing by the time we got home.
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: This is before you just would send it. Now, toward
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: the very end, we would send it from the plane,
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: but like the vast majority, we didn't have the ability
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: to do that. So you'd write everything and then you
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: get home and like me, Andy and Brian would be
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: like firing stuff into the folders and they'd be like.
- 1:57:55Speaker 17: Ah, now I get like Neil Perry like making my seat,
- 1:58:00Speaker 17: like are you done? Are you done?
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: Are you done?
- 1:58:02Speaker 17: In the plane is literally the wheels are like right.
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: So we didn't usually write a whole lot during the game.
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: We used to wait till we got on the buck
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: on the planet start banging because it was easier. What
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: else we do it on the plane until you know
- 1:58:14Speaker 4: you got and you just start to think like, well
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: if I get this written, now I can eat on
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: the plane, maybe watch something on you because the TVs
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: weren't all like again, a lot of technology is.
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: Things change and then you sleep, don't even want to
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: get into the photos.
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: And when you've done, and when you're done, you go home.
