- 0:02Speaker 1: All right, welcome to the world-famous Phil Henry Show from
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ted Bell Canyon, high above the great city of Los Angeles.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I'm Phil Henry, along with Margaret Gray, General Galen Shaw,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Bud Dickman.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got on the line, we have Dave Oliver,
- 0:14Speaker 2: and we have, is it just Dave Oliver?
- 0:16Speaker 1: It's Dave Oliver. Oliver. I'm pretty sure it's Oliver. No,
- 0:20Speaker 1: it is not Oliver. It's not Dave Oliver. You've heard
- 0:23Speaker 1: the tapes?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I've heard the tapes, but I think he has
- 0:25Speaker 2: a slight accent. I think it's Dave Oliver. And then
- 0:28Speaker 2: we have, we've got Jeff Dowder.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Jeff Dowder.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Huh?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Hey, man, how long have you been on this show?
- 0:34Speaker 2: All right, okay, fine.
- 0:34Speaker 1: What did you think it was? I thought it was
- 0:36Speaker 1: like Jeff Duder. You thought it was Jeff Duder. Look
- 0:39Speaker 1: me in the face and tell me you thought it
- 0:41Speaker 1: was Jeff Duder.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm kidding. Yeah, uh-huh.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So we have with us on the phone, we have
- 0:46Speaker 1: both Jeff Duder and we have Dave Oliva. Both of
- 0:49Speaker 1: these guys are featured on today's Radio Archive downloads. There
- 0:52Speaker 1: are three downloads that we do a day. One of
- 0:54Speaker 1: them is the featured download, which, of course, is on
- 0:57Speaker 1: the iHeart feed and is nationally available. is where all
- 1:01Speaker 1: of the national commercials go. And that is our feature.
- 1:04Speaker 1: But I think today is, I don't know, is it,
- 1:06Speaker 1: who is featured today? Oh, let me look at the schedule.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I don't know, Phil. These are things that you should
- 1:11Speaker 1: have figured out before you start talking. I understand. Is
- 1:18Speaker 1: it Dave Oliva? Or is it Jeff Dowd? I don't
- 1:20Speaker 1: know who it is. Hey, it's Phil Hendry here for
- 1:22Speaker 1: the world-famous Phil Hendry Show website, philhendryshow.com. That's where everything is.
- 1:26Speaker 1: That you had.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And there was no Make-A-Wish Foundation for me. There was
- 1:30Speaker 3: no Make-A-Wish Foundation for me, okay? But some little kid
- 1:35Speaker 3: who's not.
- 1:35Speaker 1: So now we know. So, Dave, you were the guy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Let's get Dave up on the line.
- 1:38Speaker 2: What about Jeff? Jeff Duder.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Don't mess around, bud.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Okay, what about Jeff Duder?
- 1:42Speaker 1: Let Jeff... Wait, okay. Dave Oliva on the line. Dave,
- 1:45Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 1:46Speaker 3: This is Jeff Duder, Mr.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Henry.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I just... I wanted to.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Get Dave Oliva... Okay, sorry. Hey, Dave, it's Phil Hendry.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Mr. General, it's Dave Waller. How are you doing?
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm good, man, and we wanted to talk to you
- 1:57Speaker 1: because you're featured today on our archive talking about the
- 2:01Speaker 1: little boy in London, England, who got the LAPD badge,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and it was something that you took exception to.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Well, first of all, Mr. General, I wanted to basically
- 2:09Speaker 3: say that I do not want to think and do
- 2:14Speaker 3: not want nobody else to think that I was like,
- 2:18Speaker 3: Pissed off, excuse my language, but pissed off or something
- 2:21Speaker 3: about the kid getting the LAPD badge because he was
- 2:25Speaker 3: like a Three Wishes. Was that it?
- 2:28Speaker 1: It's called Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish Foundation.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it was the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And the little boy,
- 2:34Speaker 3: he was in London, and I just thought it was
- 2:37Speaker 3: weird that he would want to have no LAPD badge.
- 2:40Speaker 1: That's because the kid was watching some L.A. Cup shows.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Well, okay.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I know that you took exception to that. And you
- 2:48Speaker 1: thought that you deserved the badge.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Well, I thought that, yeah, because I also, myself, I've
- 2:54Speaker 3: wanted to be LAPD my whole life. Now, this was
- 2:57Speaker 3: 26 years ago, man. Did you ever make it to LAPD?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Right now, I'm still, you know, aspiring to it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: What are you talking about, 26 years later?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. What about it, man?
- 3:08Speaker 1: What are you doing now?
- 3:10Speaker 3: I've had a pool cleaning company. I've had auto detailing.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I had an auto paint business. I did a security business.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I mean, I've had six or seven businesses, you know.
- 3:20Speaker 1: What are you doing now?
- 3:21Speaker 3: I do personal security for individual people, people who are
- 3:25Speaker 3: well-known in the business of the entertainment, you know.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Oh, so this is almost like.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's like being a cop. Only this is.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I would imagine this is a little bit more better-paid
- 3:36Speaker 4: job or something?
- 3:36Speaker 1: In other words, you're doing personal security for celebrities.
- 3:40Speaker 3: We do have, yeah. We do have some celebrities. And
- 3:42Speaker 3: I have a company. I've got like three, four guys
- 3:45Speaker 3: where we just... we'll be with the celebrity or whoever
- 3:49Speaker 3: it is. These are some people who need to have
- 3:52Speaker 3: security and they want to call us up and go,
- 3:54Speaker 3: you know, we need security now. We must have it now.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm listening.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Okay, so then we go to the guy's house or
- 4:02Speaker 3: something and we'd ride in the car with him or
- 4:05Speaker 3: he would ride in our car and we would, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 3: perform security detail and anything like that.
- 4:11Speaker 1: What, do you like that better than LAPD?
- 4:13Speaker 3: Well, I think, you know, right now, I still would
- 4:16Speaker 3: like to be LAPD.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Hold on for a minute, Dave. You've got to be
- 4:19Speaker 1: in your 40s at this point, okay? I mean, you
- 4:23Speaker 1: must be older than that.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Mr. Andrew, I'm not at this time prepared to tell
- 4:27Speaker 3: you because of security purposes.
- 4:30Speaker 1: No, no, I understand that. But, I mean, are you
- 4:32Speaker 1: really going to want to be LAPD when you have
- 4:33Speaker 1: your own private security company? You know, does this not...
- 4:40Speaker 1: satisfy your need to be in that kind of level
- 4:44Speaker 1: of enforcing the law or providing safety for people?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Say that again?
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'm just saying, man, is this better than being a cop,
- 4:50Speaker 1: or do you still want to be a cop?
- 4:53Speaker 3: You know, I still want to be LAPD. The reason
- 4:55Speaker 3: why I called and the reason why Bud Dickman called
- 4:58Speaker 3: me and the reason why I called Bud Dickman and
- 5:01Speaker 3: we both called each other back, I mean, I called him,
- 5:04Speaker 3: then he called me back, and then he called me back.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I understand, so get to it.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Get to what?
- 5:09Speaker 2: You called me up and you said that you still had,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you still were harboring a grudge about the kid with
- 5:15Speaker 2: a brain tumor.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that was it.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Oh, you're kidding me, Dave.
- 5:18Speaker 3: No, I mean, it's just that, I don't know, Mr. Henry,
- 5:21Speaker 3: it's just like I still feel like even though that
- 5:23Speaker 3: kid had a brain tumor and the kid was like,
- 5:26Speaker 3: you know, you know, he was a good kid and
- 5:29Speaker 3: he needed to have the LAPD badge. He deserved to
- 5:32Speaker 3: have it. But what about me, you know? And all
- 5:34Speaker 3: these years I've thought about how I didn't have an
- 5:37Speaker 3: easy life, and that kid was going to die. So
- 5:43Speaker 3: what good would the LAPD badge be to him?
- 5:45Speaker 1: You want to know something? I don't know what the
- 5:47Speaker 1: answer to that question is. All I know is that
- 5:49Speaker 1: most people, including me, and just about everybody I talked to,
- 5:53Speaker 1: thought that that little boy, because he was terminal, deserved
- 5:56Speaker 1: to have that. You have your whole life ahead of you,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and right now you've built this security business.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah, but I still don't have no LAPD badge, see?
- 6:04Speaker 1: And that's just, that's just burn, that's chipping your ass,
- 6:06Speaker 1: is that it?
- 6:08Speaker 3: What are you saying?
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's burning your ass, is what he meant to say.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Burning my ass?
- 6:14Speaker 1: In other words, it's still bugging you.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it still is, basically. That the kid... could get
- 6:20Speaker 3: the badge, and he went to his grave with that badge,
- 6:24Speaker 3: the LAPD badge. And I will never have no LAPD badge,
- 6:27Speaker 3: even though I have my own private security company, and
- 6:30Speaker 3: we provide security to many of the great stars of
- 6:33Speaker 3: Hollywood and film and TV and Hollywood and everything. You know, Mr. Henry?
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So, I don't know.
- 6:41Speaker 4: All right, this is Margaret. I want to ask you
- 6:43Speaker 4: a question. You built a successful security business. You had
- 6:47Speaker 4: an auto detailing business. You had an auto paint body business.
- 6:52Speaker 4: You did a lot of things. And now you have
- 6:54Speaker 4: this company that you own. What is it about LAPD
- 6:58Speaker 4: that you want, other than the fact that there's some
- 7:00Speaker 4: kind of a cachet to having that badge?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Having a what?
- 7:06Speaker 1: The cachet. In other words, it's high profile. It's high prestige.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Well, I mean, turn the TV down. Yeah, I mean...
- 7:15Speaker 3: When you go, I'm LAPD, people go, yeah, they step back.
- 7:20Speaker 3: You know, I've seen people, when I say to people,
- 7:23Speaker 3: you know what, I'm going to be LAPD, they step back,
- 7:25Speaker 3: they go like, what? You know, it shakes them up.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 7:29Speaker 1: What do you mean it shakes them up?
- 7:31Speaker 3: You say, hey, I'm going to be LAPD, and they go,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and it's almost like a Knox and Watt balance, man.
- 7:37Speaker 3: But I can't say that no more. I say I
- 7:39Speaker 3: have my own personal security business, and I mentioned some
- 7:44Speaker 3: of the celebrities that we deal with.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Can you tell us here?
- 7:46Speaker 3: No, I cannot. It's very highly confidential.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Then why do you tell people that ask you out there?
- 7:52Speaker 3: Because I just, I don't know, I guess.
- 7:54Speaker 1: You're not supposed to, are you?
- 7:56Speaker 3: Well, I guess not. But here's the thing. When I
- 7:59Speaker 3: tell people that I have my own personal security business
- 8:03Speaker 3: and that we deal with many of the great stars
- 8:06Speaker 3: of TV and film and TV, And film, you know.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And TV.
- 8:12Speaker 3: And TV and film. That they go, yeah, that's cool.
- 8:16Speaker 3: But I go, yeah, but once upon a time, I
- 8:18Speaker 3: want to be LAPD. They go, wow. You can see
- 8:20Speaker 3: them just, ah, like you just kicked them in the
- 8:24Speaker 3: balls or something, man. I can't even, I cannot even
- 8:26Speaker 3: explain it.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Dave Oliva, my guest here on the Phil Hendry Show,
- 8:29Speaker 1: talking about why all these years later he still wants
- 8:32Speaker 1: an LAPD badge. You could have joined the LAPD. Why
- 8:35Speaker 1: didn't you?
- 8:36Speaker 3: See that again?
- 8:36Speaker 1: You could have joined LAPD. Why didn't you?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Because at the time it was political. A lot of
- 8:43Speaker 3: the people at LAPD, a lot of people in police,
- 8:46Speaker 3: they want to lord it over you and tell you
- 8:48Speaker 3: what to do and tell you how to live. And
- 8:51Speaker 3: I had my own way of doing things, right? But still,
- 8:55Speaker 3: I wanted to be LAPD, but still I did not.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Were you in the police academy? Did you ever become,
- 9:01Speaker 1: at least, did you ever get your badge?
- 9:03Speaker 3: No, I didn't. I mean, I left.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Okay, so you quit.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I wouldn't say I quit. I mean, I just said,
- 9:09Speaker 3: this is not for me. I think I'm much better
- 9:12Speaker 3: off doing my own private security business. But, yeah, I
- 9:15Speaker 3: will miss not having no LAPD badge. But, yeah, it's
- 9:19Speaker 3: better to have my own personal security business.
- 9:20Speaker 2: But, yeah, you miss having an LAPD.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but Mrs. Not Mrs. I'm Mrs. LAPD. I'm not Mrs.
- 9:29Speaker 5: LAPD.
- 9:31Speaker 3: There, Dave? Yeah, I'm here. I'm not. I don't miss
- 9:34Speaker 3: no LAPD badge to the point where I'm going to
- 9:36Speaker 3: call myself Mrs. LAPD badge.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Okay, so also Jeff Dauter is joining us on the
- 9:42Speaker 1: line from Temple City, California. Jeff, how are you?
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Mr. Turner, I'm pretty good. I'm listening to Mr.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Oliva talking about how he wanted LAPD and everything, and
- 9:53Speaker 3: I sort of understand where he's coming from given the
- 9:57Speaker 3: realities of what I had to deal with and everything
- 10:01Speaker 3: like that, you know?
- 10:02Speaker 1: Okay, so let's talk about that. After 9-11, and you're
- 10:07Speaker 1: on our show today talking about this, you felt that
- 10:12Speaker 1: the only real places to protect in America were New
- 10:15Speaker 1: York and L.A., is that right?
- 10:18Speaker 3: No, I mean, that's not the only places, but I
- 10:21Speaker 3: felt that those are the most important places to protect
- 10:24Speaker 3: in America on account of the ones New York and
- 10:27Speaker 3: others L.A. You know, New York got hit. There's no
- 10:30Speaker 3: telling L.A. might have gotten hit.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Because when you were on the show in December 2001,
- 10:35Speaker 1: there were credible threats against Los Angeles and its bridges
- 10:39Speaker 1: and things like that.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah, there was credible threats that there would be credible
- 10:42Speaker 3: threats attacks against Los Angeles for infrastructure, and that we
- 10:53Speaker 3: should be on alert, you know. And I said, yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 3: you know, you have to protect L.A., you have to
- 10:58Speaker 3: protect New York. And a lot of people gave me
- 11:01Speaker 3: static over that, because there were people who were calling
- 11:03Speaker 3: into your show, I remember Mr. Henry, and I guess
- 11:05Speaker 3: people will hear it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to be featuring it today, folks. Listen for,
- 11:08Speaker 1: these are one of three downloads. The other ones are, well,
- 11:13Speaker 1: Dave Oliva is one of them. The other one, I think,
- 11:15Speaker 1: is Bob Green, who tries to explain why he sexually
- 11:19Speaker 1: assaulted a female employee who was wearing a costume for
- 11:22Speaker 1: Halloween with a devil tail that had an arrow pointing
- 11:25Speaker 1: at her you-know-what.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Talk about the you-know-what.
- 11:29Speaker 1: You guys got to back off the phone. I got
- 11:34Speaker 1: Jeff Datter and Dave Oliva talking about their appearances today
- 11:39Speaker 1: on our classic archives. So, Jeff, L.A., New York, yes,
- 11:44Speaker 1: they're great places. And you mentioned that those two places
- 11:47Speaker 1: and Las Vegas were the three most important places in
- 11:50Speaker 1: America and needed immediate protection.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I really felt that because I felt that the
- 11:56Speaker 3: next attack was going to be coming either against Los
- 11:59Speaker 3: Angeles or they would attack like the Luxor, or not
- 12:02Speaker 3: the Luxor, but the terrorists would come and attack the
- 12:06Speaker 3: Eiffel Tower.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The Eiffel Tower in Vegas.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Yeah, the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, exactly, exactly. And
- 12:16Speaker 3: I felt that the terrorists, that would be a target
- 12:18Speaker 3: of the terrorists, that the Eiffel Tower was going to
- 12:20Speaker 3: go down.
- 12:20Speaker 1: You realize there's another Eiffel Tower, the one in Paris?
- 12:23Speaker 3: I was not aware of that. You guys explained that
- 12:25Speaker 3: to me. I thought the Eiffel Tower was the one
- 12:29Speaker 3: in Las Vegas. You've got to be kidding me, man.
- 12:32Speaker 3: You didn't know that the Eiffel Tower? Well, tell me,
- 12:35Speaker 3: did you know it? Yeah, man, I knew the Eiffel Tower.
- 12:38Speaker 3: There's one in Paris? Yes. And I mean, the other
- 12:41Speaker 3: one is in Vegas, you know.
- 12:42Speaker 1: The one in Paris is the original one. The one
- 12:44Speaker 1: in Vegas is a tourist place.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Well, anyway, I could see terrorists taking out the Eiffel
- 12:50Speaker 3: Tower in Vegas.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So today it'll be Dave Oliva and Jeff Dowder on
- 12:56Speaker 1: our show talking about Dave and the LAPD badge that
- 12:59Speaker 1: never was. They gave it to a little boy who
- 13:01Speaker 1: was terminal in London, England. And for Jeff and his
- 13:05Speaker 1: need to protect Los Angeles, New York, and Vegas... as
- 13:08Speaker 1: the three most obvious places of terror. Don't you think
- 13:10Speaker 1: that the country as a whole should be protected equally?
- 13:15Speaker 3: You're talking to me?
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm talking to you, Jim. That was your position.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah, no, yeah, yeah, no, yeah, no, no, no, yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Just calm down.
- 13:25Speaker 3: No, I think yes. Obviously, it should be protected. Everybody
- 13:29Speaker 3: should be protected equally. But I don't know, man. It's just,
- 13:33Speaker 3: it freaked me out, you know, that... They wanted to
- 13:37Speaker 3: go and get national, they wanted to go protect, like,
- 13:41Speaker 3: I don't know, man, Cheyenne, Wyoming or somewhere, get protection
- 13:45Speaker 3: for Portland, Washington, or wherever Portland is. Oregon? Yeah, in Oregon. When,
- 13:51Speaker 3: in point of fact, the most important places are L.A.,
- 13:53Speaker 3: New York, and Las Vegas.
- 13:55Speaker 1: L.A., New York, and Las Vegas. Maybe not L.A., New York,
- 13:57Speaker 1: and Chicago.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Why? Because that's like the third largest city in America.
- 14:02Speaker 3: God damn, man.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I want to thank you guys. This has been great.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I'm Phil Hendry. Boy, what a
- 14:10Speaker 1: waste of fucking... It was your idea, Phil. You're right.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I can't believe that Dave Oliver, all these years later,
- 14:18Speaker 1: he never made it to the LAPD. No, he never
- 14:20Speaker 1: made it to the LAPD. I don't think he wanted
- 14:21Speaker 1: to be LAPD. He's got this security company now. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: what does Jeff Dowder do? I think he drives a
- 14:27Speaker 1: snowplow for Huntington Beach. I thought that was a bunch
- 14:30Speaker 1: of baloney.
- 14:31Speaker 5: That wasn't baloney, but he found out that they didn't
- 14:32Speaker 5: really need A snowplow for Huntington Beach, even though they
- 14:36Speaker 5: did hire him to be a snowplow driver for Huntington Beach.
- 14:40Speaker 5: So Huntington Beach hired him to be a snowplow driver,
- 14:42Speaker 5: even though they realized they didn't need one.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, when they, you know.
- 14:46Speaker 1: They took another look at it. Oh, they took another
- 14:49Speaker 1: look at it. Phil, we only know what they told us. Okay, baby. Well,
- 14:55Speaker 1: there you are. I hope you enjoyed today's shows. I
- 14:58Speaker 1: don't know whether this is a good idea or not.
- 15:00Speaker 1: where we decided that we would interview people who were
- 15:02Speaker 1: going to be featured on our Archive Hours and see
- 15:05Speaker 1: if they still feel the same damn way they did
- 15:08Speaker 1: back then. So today, again, our featured Archive Hour is
- 15:11Speaker 1: going to be Dave Oliva. He is upset that LAPD
- 15:17Speaker 1: gave an honorary badge to a little boy with a
- 15:19Speaker 1: brain tumor in England. Then we also have Jeff Dauter,
- 15:22Speaker 1: feeling that New York and the West Coast are the
- 15:24Speaker 1: most significant areas in the U.S. and must be protected
- 15:26Speaker 1: before any other place. I like that. They're like two
