- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show. Nine till noon weekdays. More Mark.
- 0:06Speaker 2: 710WOR. Hey.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, nobody's calling. I've never had that happen before. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: gave out the number. Phones light up. Look at that.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Nobody's calling. What's going on here? 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We get calls from all over the country normally.
- 0:23Speaker 2: 800-321-0710.
- 0:29Speaker 1: 0-7-10. So if you're one of those people, I can
- 0:33Speaker 1: never get through. Well, there's nobody calling right now. 800-321-0710.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Give us a call. Hey, happy birthday to Warren Buffett.
- 0:46Speaker 1: He's 96 today. 96 years old today. Warren Buffett still
- 0:53Speaker 1: goes to work every day. The only problem, he was
- 0:57Speaker 1: just a simple guy. He has a 12-year-old car. He
- 1:01Speaker 1: drives himself to work every day. He goes to McDonald's.
- 1:05Speaker 1: He has two orders. One is the Egg McMuffin. And
- 1:11Speaker 1: then the other, I forgot the other one. Flips a coin. Yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 1: Diet Coke all day and night. Now, the only problem
- 1:18Speaker 1: is at 96, his eyes aren't so good. He can't
- 1:22Speaker 1: drive anymore. Last time I talked to him, he said
- 1:24Speaker 1: that's the one thing. That's killing him. He's got to
- 1:27Speaker 1: have a driver now. He's a simple guy. He doesn't
- 1:29Speaker 1: like a driver. But McDonald's every day. He said he
- 1:31Speaker 1: has the diet of a 12-year-old. McDonald's, Diet Coke, candy
- 1:38Speaker 1: all day. Look at this. Now we've got 12,000 calls.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Now we don't have enough time for all these calls.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Let's go to Gene in Bacon, New York. Gene, how
- 1:45Speaker 1: are you doing?
- 1:47Speaker 2: I'm doing great. You know, I wish that you and
- 1:50Speaker 2: I could sit down for about an hour and just talk.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh, God. Yeah, that sounds great.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Huh? But anyway.
- 1:59Speaker 1: What would we talk about?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Well, about my father, who was a Democrat.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Fascinating.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Who came along in the... came along in the depression.
- 2:10Speaker 2: He used to write legislation for Carter.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Let me just explain something off the air. I never
- 2:15Speaker 1: talk about politics ever with anybody ever. No politics, no politics.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So what else would we know?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Well, I do want to say something that I wish
- 2:25Speaker 2: that you and Donald Trump might talk about. Um, the,
- 2:29Speaker 2: the destruction of the North rim lodge out in Arizona
- 2:34Speaker 2: burned down about a year and a half ago. And,
- 2:37Speaker 2: Has he mentioned anything about the rebuilding of that building,
- 2:42Speaker 2: of the lodge?
- 2:43Speaker 1: And what burned down? What kind of lodge? I don't
- 2:45Speaker 1: even know about this.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Well, the tourist lodge on the north rim of the
- 2:49Speaker 2: Grand Canyon. I was there years ago as a youngster,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and he would be able to rebuild that thing and
- 2:57Speaker 2: bring some creativity to it. It was a rustic building.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but you got to remember, if he rebuilt it,
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's going to have gold all over it. It's going to,
- 3:05Speaker 1: you know. He might not be the guy for that lodge.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But it's a good point. Yeah, he should get on that.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But maybe let somebody else do the decorating on that one.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Let's go to Vic in Pennsylvania. Vic, how are you doing?
- 3:20Speaker 4: I'm doing fine, Mark. Mark, I just wanted to bring out,
- 3:23Speaker 4: when you were on the prior radio station, you were
- 3:26Speaker 4: on all the time. I think you set the Guinness
- 3:28Speaker 4: Book of World Records for being on so much. And
- 3:32Speaker 4: I would listen to you constantly. So three hours, I
- 3:36Speaker 4: want you to do another three hours.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well, some days I fill in for Hannity, so that's
- 3:41Speaker 1: three plus three. That'll be six. All right, thanks. Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: all of us here, Sean, Hannity, Rush, we were all
- 3:48Speaker 1: at the other station. What does Sean call it? Our ex-wife.
- 3:52Speaker 1: That's the other station. It was our ex-wife. Let's go
- 3:55Speaker 1: to Scrapper. Is that your name? Scrapper in Connecticut?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I'm here, yeah. You're an excellent show. You're excellent. They
- 4:05Speaker 2: don't seem to want to talk about the budget and
- 4:08Speaker 2: cutting the budget. That's the big problem. They avoid discussing that.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Who does?
- 4:18Speaker 2: The city of New York, especially.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Well, of course, they're going to avoid that.
- 4:23Speaker 1: They're not going to mention that. That's what they do
- 4:25Speaker 1: for a living. Spend our money. You know, that's the right.
- 4:28Speaker 1: He's right. He's absolutely right. That is the single biggest problem.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You could solve everything. In one second, just stop overspending.
- 4:35Speaker 1: The government overspends. You know, we pay like a thousand
- 4:40Speaker 1: percent more than everything costs for whatever it is, roads, potholes, subways,
- 4:44Speaker 1: a thousand percent more than you're supposed to spend than
- 4:47Speaker 1: it actually costs. The $ 108 billion city budget could actually
- 4:52Speaker 1: easily be $ 40 billion. And if you spent the money legitimately,
- 4:56Speaker 1: you'd have better service. Everybody's taxes could be cut like 65%.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Just stop wasting money with all the fraud, waste, bloat,
- 5:04Speaker 1: all of that stuff. Let's go to John in Long Island. John,
- 5:08Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, Mark.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes, John.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Okay, just following up on something you brought up last week, Mark,
- 5:16Speaker 2: regarding the Kennedy Center and Trump. I'm an architect and
- 5:20Speaker 2: also a construction manager. And I think the best thing
- 5:25Speaker 2: is to tear it down because... When you start to
- 5:27Speaker 2: remediate something like that, I've worked on projects where you
- 5:31Speaker 2: spend half a million dollars just on a specious abatement. Yeah. Okay?
- 5:35Speaker 2: And then, like, at the end of the day, you
- 5:37Speaker 2: wind up spending more on a retro building than to
- 5:41Speaker 2: tear it and rebuild it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Well, it's kind of historic. It's got kind of a
- 5:45Speaker 1: landmark sort of a thing to it. You can't really
- 5:47Speaker 1: tear it.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Take part of it. Take part of it and just, hey,
- 5:51Speaker 2: there's a dedication to it. John F. Kennedy, and then
- 5:54Speaker 2: restore the rest of the thing.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Well, apparently the problem, because I've talked to the people there,
- 6:00Speaker 1: just to get to the bottom of it, it was
- 6:02Speaker 1: built section by section. They kept adding on to it.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And when they'd add on, they didn't quite connect everything right.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And there was a pipe system that was connected to
- 6:10Speaker 1: another pipe system. And the real problem, the reason it's
- 6:13Speaker 1: collapsing with what they called water intrusion, you know what
- 6:18Speaker 1: can happen when you've got leaks and water everywhere and
- 6:21Speaker 1: it just weakens everything. So this Parts of the building
- 6:23Speaker 1: close to collapse. That's why when they say they got
- 6:27Speaker 1: to shut it down, that's why it's two years. I mean,
- 6:29Speaker 1: they have to rebuild almost the entire building. Happened to
- 6:32Speaker 1: the White House at one time. In the late 1940s,
- 6:36Speaker 1: remember Harry Truman had a daughter who played the piano.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So they put a big piano up in the residence.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And as she's playing, it started to fall through the floor.
- 6:45Speaker 1: The whole floor of the White House residence started crumbling.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And they found out the same thing, that the whole
- 6:51Speaker 1: White House had to be gutted, literally, the entire White House.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Truman had to move out for two years while they
- 6:57Speaker 1: rebuilt the entire interior. One more call real fast. Let's
- 7:01Speaker 1: go to Eric in the Bronx. Eric, how are you doing? Hey, Mark.
- 7:04Speaker 3: How are you doing? Long time listening to you, especially
- 7:08Speaker 3: when you were playing music. But when I was listening
- 7:12Speaker 3: last week when all these socialists were winning these tickets
- 7:16Speaker 3: in New York, Why can't we do what they did
- 7:20Speaker 3: in Buffalo when the mayor was running and the socialists
- 7:23Speaker 3: beat him and they did the write-in ballots? And in
- 7:27Speaker 3: the end, he ended up winning. Why can't we do
- 7:29Speaker 3: that here?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Oh, right.
- 7:30Speaker 1: We're going to do it. You didn't say what it is.
- 7:32Speaker 1: What do we do?
- 7:33Speaker 3: Write-in ballots. These socialists run, so why can't we do
- 7:36Speaker 3: the write-in ballots?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Well, you can do a write-in ballot. You can do it.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It's just.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean, why aren't we doing a big,
- 7:41Speaker 3: massive campaign?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Well, one of the reasons, we don't have a Republican
- 7:45Speaker 1: Party in New York. I mean, there's a little one,
- 7:47Speaker 1: but it doesn't have any manpower. It doesn't have any
- 7:49Speaker 1: ground game. It doesn't have much staff. It's really, that's
- 7:52Speaker 1: the problem. The Republicans don't have a machine here in
- 7:55Speaker 1: New York. It's just... A bunch of clubs, the Republican
- 7:58Speaker 1: Club of this, the Republican Club of that. And it's
- 7:59Speaker 1: just old ladies who throw cocktail parties, take pictures with celebrities,
- 8:04Speaker 1: post it on their Instagram. They don't actually do anything
- 8:06Speaker 1: to help any campaigns. Hey, when we come back, the
- 8:09Speaker 1: greatest columnist in America, Michael Goodwin. We'll talk to him
- 8:13Speaker 1: next on 710WOR.
