- 0:00Speaker 1: Weekday's sweet A seven pm. It's a flash drive with
- 0:04Speaker 1: Karl we see on KFM ninety four point five.
- 0:08Speaker 2: As I mentioned to you, I do want to get
- 0:09Speaker 2: on some of our favorites, like the Discam Foundation. And
- 0:13Speaker 2: as winter creeps in, OK, you know, the nights are
- 0:15Speaker 2: feeding a bit more chilly. I'm not sure we've seen
- 0:18Speaker 2: this on their social media, but they've got this great
- 0:21Speaker 2: Blankets plus campaign. You can nominate a cause of your
- 0:23Speaker 2: choice and and other discom Foundation provide blankets and beanies
- 0:26Speaker 2: and gloves to those who need it the most. It's
- 0:28Speaker 2: now in its tenth year, which means we're celebrating a
- 0:31Speaker 2: decade of a cause that looks after not only those
- 0:34Speaker 2: without homes, but also the animals who are left destitute
- 0:38Speaker 2: during the cold winter months. To tell you more, Hello Jackie,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Hi Carl. Are you fantastic? Having the best day ever?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Because I realized that I was going to talk to
- 0:48Speaker 2: you today, so everything changed from there. One of my
- 0:53Speaker 2: favorite campaigns from Discam Foundation is the fact that we
- 0:56Speaker 2: are collecting We are collecting blankets, We are making sure
- 0:59Speaker 2: the people get what they need this winter. It's a
- 1:02Speaker 2: couple of cold months ahead and I like the fact
- 1:04Speaker 2: that we are proactive. We're in March now and it's
- 1:06Speaker 2: feeling a little colder. It's time to act, and I
- 1:09Speaker 2: know for a fact that Discam Foundation you've done just that.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So tell me a little bit more about this campaign
- 1:13Speaker 2: that's now it's tenth year.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So the good news is we're not collecting blankets. The
- 1:18Speaker 3: Discam Foundation actually bars the blanket. Oh okay, So we
- 1:23Speaker 3: originally started off with five thousand blankets in the earlier
- 1:28Speaker 3: days and a couple of years ago, I was driving
- 1:32Speaker 3: down Yan Snut's Avenue and I saw very old gentleman
- 1:35Speaker 3: warming his hands on the back of a filthy, dirty
- 1:38Speaker 3: exhaust path which was a freezing cold morning. And I
- 1:41Speaker 3: got back to the office and I said, I want
- 1:43Speaker 3: beanies and I want gloves, and I got them. And
- 1:46Speaker 3: the campaign has grown exponentially and now we're looking at
- 1:50Speaker 3: we do ten thousand blankets and five thousand pairs of
- 1:54Speaker 3: gloves and five thousand beanies, and we get them out.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So we ask people just to vote on our Instagram page,
- 2:03Speaker 3: which is the Skim Underscore Foundation, and it'll take you
- 2:11Speaker 3: to the blankets campaign link, and if you could just
- 2:13Speaker 3: cast your vote for your favorite organization, or worthy organization.
- 2:17Speaker 3: And on Facebook it's just the skim pharmacy's ds slashhem
- 2:22Speaker 3: pharmacies to words and you'll find the blanket campaign there
- 2:26Speaker 3: as well. And it's freezing, it gets cold, and it's awful.
- 2:32Speaker 2: But I love the fact that we are focusing on
- 2:35Speaker 2: how a blanket, pair of gloves and beanies can really
- 2:39Speaker 2: change the game for those who are left in the
- 2:43Speaker 2: cold during this winter. And I think that's the important thing.
- 2:46Speaker 2: We can never ever lose the fact that just a
- 2:49Speaker 2: one blanket, one beanie, one pair of gloves can make
- 2:52Speaker 2: a massive difference to someone's entire life, especially making them
- 2:56Speaker 2: more comfortable. You know that it's hard out there as
- 2:59Speaker 2: it is, but now we get a chance to nominate
- 3:02Speaker 2: a worthy cause and get those blankets from the Discam
- 3:05Speaker 2: Foundation distributed accordingly, which is wonderful. So have the votes
- 3:09Speaker 2: gone well thus far?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Well, we only opened the voting on Sunday or run
- 3:16Speaker 3: for two weeks, lovely, and we've been overwhelmed. It's been overwhelming.
- 3:20Speaker 3: And just to your point, if I made Carlo, please,
- 3:22Speaker 3: so something we started the year before last is some
- 3:26Speaker 3: of my colleagues and I give them some gloves and
- 3:29Speaker 3: some blankets and some beanies to put in their cars
- 3:32Speaker 3: and just on our travels because not every organization gets
- 3:35Speaker 3: to every corner, every shopping mall, you know, the high
- 3:38Speaker 3: street ones. And these guys are freezing that are in
- 3:42Speaker 3: the parking areas and watch our cars or you know,
- 3:45Speaker 3: whatever is they're doing there, they're freezing cold. Yes, And
- 3:49Speaker 3: last year was in Cape Town in Brie Street, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: I've had blankets and beanies and gloves in the car
- 3:54Speaker 3: with me because I'm fully aware of the cold that
- 3:58Speaker 3: the Cape can share us. You know, I hit the
- 4:03Speaker 3: ground running when I get to Cape Town and I
- 4:05Speaker 3: was working furiously and it was eight nine o'clock and
- 4:07Speaker 3: I was getting into the car and the you know,
- 4:10Speaker 3: the parking attendant came and I said, oh my goodness,
- 4:12Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. I don't have any money on me.
- 4:14Speaker 3: And I said, but hold on, and I gave him
- 4:16Speaker 3: a pair of gloves, being in a blanket, and I
- 4:20Speaker 3: was apologizing, man, I didn't have any money to give me,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and he said, ma'am, you have no idea. This was
- 4:25Speaker 3: worth so much more. And it was heartfelt. And that's
- 4:29Speaker 3: the difference you're making, you know, to one person, and.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's a great it's a great catalyst for us to
- 4:37Speaker 2: think about that. You know, there are there are in homes,
- 4:40Speaker 2: there are excess resources, and we should get them into
- 4:43Speaker 2: our boots. And you know, when we are driving around,
- 4:46Speaker 2: instead of saying, hey, I can't help, but I don't
- 4:48Speaker 2: have it on me, you know, it's we ready. You know,
- 4:50Speaker 2: we're ready to pop up a bit of boot deliver something.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think that's the type of thing it is. That's
- 4:54Speaker 2: what the DISCOMT Foundation does. I mean, it's a catalyst
- 4:56Speaker 2: for real change in our community, even on a small level,
- 4:59Speaker 2: because it's a massive level for individuals and even animals
- 5:02Speaker 2: are like this winter, so I love this idea too.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Absolutely, No, you've got to keep our animals warm. A
- 5:07Speaker 3: lot of the shelters it gets cold. You know, they're
- 5:10Speaker 3: in shelters and they're not always well sheltered from the elements.
- 5:14Speaker 3: So it's important they have blankets. There aren't so much
- 5:16Speaker 3: two gloves and beanies, but we do the blanket.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Well, you know what, that's that's beautiful as well. I mean,
- 5:21Speaker 2: so we've got ten thousand blankets fast to distribute, and
- 5:24Speaker 2: now we need to find the causes and that's where
- 5:26Speaker 2: we go to. You know, your Instagram. I see discom
- 5:29Speaker 2: underscore Pharmacies and that'll be the first point there Facebook
- 5:32Speaker 2: as well. We're going to go and we're going to
- 5:34Speaker 2: nominate and I know voting does close on the fifth
- 5:36Speaker 2: of April twenty twenty six, and thereafter we're sorting people out,
- 5:40Speaker 2: going out there and delivering. So thank you Jackie for
- 5:44Speaker 2: putting a lovely spotlight on what is a great cause.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You have my support. Anything you need from my side,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I got your back.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I do, yes, I know, but I do need something
- 5:53Speaker 3: from you.
- 5:53Speaker 2: What's up?
- 5:54Speaker 3: And the disc and Foundation is going to give you
- 5:56Speaker 3: and your team some blankets, beanies and gloves for your car,
- 6:00Speaker 3: and we're going to ask that you just distribute on
- 6:03Speaker 3: your way to or from work or wherever you're going
- 6:05Speaker 3: when you see somebody in neat.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Oh I have I have a lot of places to
- 6:10Speaker 2: go because I mean obviously in my area, yeah, in
- 6:14Speaker 2: my area as well. I stay in the you know,
- 6:16Speaker 2: the northern suburbs, and I can tell you there's so
- 6:17Speaker 2: many little spots where I know this is going to
- 6:19Speaker 2: make a big difference. Thank you so much for that
- 6:21Speaker 2: generous contribution. And I suppose in saying that the contribution
- 6:26Speaker 2: of everybody who who gets involved and our disc and
- 6:29Speaker 2: Better Awards program members. They enable this type of thing
- 6:32Speaker 2: to happen with those ten thousand blankets and five thousand
- 6:35Speaker 2: vanis and five thousand pairs of gloves. I mean, this
- 6:37Speaker 2: has to come from somewhere, and little did we know
- 6:40Speaker 2: it is just by being part of that program where
- 6:42Speaker 2: things tick up and there's a lovely stockpile of real
- 6:47Speaker 2: helping resources that we can use to distribute. So to
- 6:49Speaker 2: anybody who's part of that program as well, I would
- 6:52Speaker 2: like to say, based on your donation to me and
- 6:55Speaker 2: my team's cause, thank you to the individual who is
- 6:58Speaker 2: using that rewards program. It's making a massive difference to
- 7:01Speaker 2: the cause and to what we get to do every
- 7:03Speaker 2: single year. Jackie together and making those incredible differences in
- 7:07Speaker 2: the community as well.
- 7:09Speaker 3: It's always a pleasure and we always do amazing things.
- 7:12Speaker 3: We love.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Well, let's get blankets, thank you, let's get let's get
- 7:15Speaker 2: them out there, and let's get the nominations going. I
- 7:19Speaker 2: will send everybody to those posts as well. We've gotten
- 7:22Speaker 2: to the fifth of April. Jackie has always thank you
- 7:25Speaker 2: very much. We really appreciate you your time and thanks
- 7:27Speaker 2: so much for shedding some light and what is a
- 7:29Speaker 2: cause that's very close to our hearts too, and we'll
- 7:32Speaker 2: make sure that it's elevated, illuminated and of course reciprocated,
- 7:36Speaker 2: you know, with regard to those in the community as well.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Perfect. Thank you, Carl, Thank you so much to you,
- 7:42Speaker 3: and you're.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Tea any time DISCAM Better Awards Program members. In fact,
- 7:46Speaker 2: if you're not one yet, you can actually walk it
- 7:49Speaker 2: to your local DISCAM and you can get it sorted
- 7:51Speaker 2: out to be a part of the DISCM Foundation automatically
- 7:54Speaker 2: when you make your purchases from your DISCM if you're
- 7:57Speaker 2: not a member. The other options also go to go
- 7:59Speaker 2: in too, disc dot co dot z and joining up
- 8:02Speaker 2: with the DISCM Better Awards Program. Because remember, when it
- 8:05Speaker 2: comes to the distribution of these blankets and these beanies
- 8:08Speaker 2: and these gloves, I think it's great to nominate your organization.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And in the back of your mind, could you just
- 8:14Speaker 2: know that when you do shop at discim, every swipe
- 8:18Speaker 2: counts and actually warms up so many people.
- 8:21Speaker 1: This winter weekdays three to seven pm, there's a flash
- 8:25Speaker 1: drive with Carnal we see on KFM ninety four point
- 8:28Speaker 1: five
