- Spain survives the quarterfinals. This is The Sports Reset for Saturday, July 11. In the World Cup quarterfinals, Spain beat Belgium 2 to 1 at SoFi Stadium, and that leads the morning because it was the day’s clearest win-or-go-home result. Spain moved on by the thinnest margin on the scoreboard, while Belgium’s tournament ended with no room left for a reply. At Wimbledon, the men’s final is set after Jannik Sinner handled Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, and Alexander Zverev beat Arthur Fery 7-6, 6-2, 6-4. In MLB, the Detroit Tigers put up the loudest score of the night, beating the Philadelphia Phillies 10 to 2, while the New York Yankees got past the Washington Nationals 5 to 3. In the WNBA, the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Chicago Sky 102 to 87, and the Dallas Wings cleared 100 in a 108 to 95 win over the Toronto Tempo. Looking ahead, the World Cup quarterfinals keep rolling today with England against Norway at Hard Rock Stadium and Switzerland against Argentina at Arrowhead, so the knockout bracket gets two more pressure tests before the weekend turns. At Wimbledon, the women’s final brings Karolina Muchova against Linda Noskova, a clean title-stage moment for two players trying to turn a deep run into a trophy. In MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates make up yesterday’s rainout with a doubleheader at PNC Park, while the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the Los Angeles Dodgers after Arizona’s 9 to 3 win on Friday gave that series a sharper edge. In the WNBA, the New York Liberty visit the Minnesota Lynx, and the Phoenix Mercury go to Las Vegas to face the Aces. In golf, the Genesis Scottish Open resumes with Jordan Smith, Rory McIlroy, and Tom Kim tied at 9-under, while Lottie Woad leads the Amundi Evian Championship at 11-under.
