- 2:45Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a long, long weekend.
- 2:47Been dealing with a little sickness.
- 2:50I, I've been going to doctors trying to figure out what is
- 2:52wrong with me and hopefully very, very soon I will know.
- 2:57But nevertheless, I, I make sure every single week I'm ready for
- 3:01this show, even though sometimes I am a little off, a little
- 3:06drowsy, a little out there in the world or my head's up in the
- 3:10clouds. And I'm trying to figure out, by
- 3:12the way, did anybody see the what, what was it?
- 3:15It wasn't a missile, but I think a rocket was shot last night.
- 3:19Did you see that? I did not.
- 3:21So I, I know a lot of people that don't follow what's going
- 3:26on in the world, but Elon Musk and his company last night.
- 3:31And if, if you didn't get a chance to see it, it's all over
- 3:33social media shot out a rocket which shot to outer space.
- 3:38I don't know if anybody was on it, but if you were outside at
- 3:42about, if I'm not mistaken, it was like 6.
- 3:46Actually it was a little bit later in the night.
- 3:47It was, it was supposed to be at 6:45 around our show 640-5630,
- 3:52but it winded up shooting at 10:00 or 9:45 PM while a rocket
- 3:58was shot out to outer space. And if you actually look E you
- 4:04could see it, you could see it in the air and bunch of my
- 4:07friends were outside watching it.
- 4:08And you can actually see the orange like missile get shot up
- 4:13by Elon Musk and his crew or his company.
- 4:17And I don't know how much it cost Elon Musk, but that was
- 4:20pretty cool. I, I got a chance to see it on
- 4:22video. I was not outside, ladies and
- 4:24gentlemen, to check it out, but you can see it all over social
- 4:27media. Everybody was posting it up and
- 4:29interesting. I, I'm not, I'm not into outer
- 4:31space and aliens UFOs, but I, I know there's something out
- 4:36there. There's extra terrestrial, you
- 4:40know, I don't know, aliens out there.
- 4:43So I, I, I believe in ET. OK, that was my favorite movie
- 4:46growing up. Anyways, lot to get into.
- 4:49So NFL combine is where we're going to start.
- 4:52The NFL combine concluded on Sunday, held once again from
- 4:57Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
- 5:00This year's combine featured some great performances and has
- 5:05been called one of the fastest combines ever.
- 5:08Not surprised due to several excellent time times from the
- 5:13319 draft prospects that were invited to show what they got
- 5:19already for next month's NFL Draft.
- 5:22Multiple reports believe that some NFLGMS believe offensive
- 5:26tackles Francis Agoa from Miami and Kaden Proctor of Alabama
- 5:33could be better as guards at the NFL level due to the size issues
- 5:38and arm length issues. Issues for Magowa and the
- 5:42opposite for Proctor who may be too big and slow to handle NFL
- 5:48pass rushers in space. Utah's two projected first round
- 5:53tackle, Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomo both had 40 yard dashes
- 6:00times under 5. Some players expected to be
- 6:04second day draft picks. Arkansas is running back Mike
- 6:08Washington, Georgia wide receiver Branch, Indiana
- 6:12cornerback D Angelo Bonds, Tennessee wide receiver Chris
- 6:16Brazil and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeyer where some
- 6:21projected second to third round picks that improved their draft
- 6:25stock. Projected top 10 edge rusher
- 6:29David Bailey had a very strong NFL combine, while other
- 6:35projected top 15 edge rushers in Kendrick Falk and Ruben Bain
- 6:39skipped the NFL Combine and reports say that many NFLGMS are
- 6:45slightly concerned about Baines arm length for the position.
- 6:50Ohio State linebacker Avril Reese and Sunny Sunny Styles
- 6:55both ran a 4.4640 yard dash and had on real athletic numbers,
- 7:01including a 43.5 inch vertical four styles.
- 7:07On the downside, the projected #1 receiver in the draft,
- 7:11Carnell Tate, ran only a 4.53 in the 40 yard dash, slower than
- 7:17expected. USC's Makai Lemon, the top
- 7:20projected slot receiver, apparently had a Chador Sanders
- 7:24like interview experience, as numerous sources report that
- 7:29Lemming completely bombed many of his team interviews in Indy.
- 7:33Well, I don't know about Ruben Bay, I know.
- 7:37I understand the thought that his arm length is not going to
- 7:41fit the NFL style of game. I understand that.
- 7:44But speed does right, athletic ability does right.
- 7:50He was the top one of the top pass rushers in the country all
- 7:54season long and against top SEC teams, pretty much matched up
- 7:58against some of the best defenses.
- 7:59I mean, offenses in the NFLI mean NCAA.
- 8:02I'm going to keep saying I'm trying to think of what I'm
- 8:04going to say here, but in the NCAA you think about what Ruben
- 8:08Bain brings to the table. The guy has the ability to get
- 8:10to the quarterback. The the guy has the ability to
- 8:13get down low and, and move inside and out and, and use many
- 8:17different ways and, and use many different styles of his game to
- 8:21get to the quarterback. Now there are teams like The
- 8:23Jets who could be using him in in a 3-4 or if The Jets are
- 8:27going to play a four three and I don't know how they're going to
- 8:29play it this year. Maybe they do a a different.
- 8:32They use the 3-4 and a four three in their defense,
- 8:35depending on how a guy like Aaron Glenn, who obviously fell
- 8:39asleep a couple of times at the combine, which was posted all
- 8:43over social media and and a lot of people, a lot of Jet fans
- 8:46were attacking him, especially The Jets podcasting that's been
- 8:50around over the last couple of weeks.
- 8:51And that was at Lucas Oil said a lot of interesting things about
- 8:56Aaron Glenn. A lot of people don't like Aaron
- 8:58Glenn, but I, I think Ruben Bane would be a top five pick.
- 9:02No matter if his arms were long, his legs or his feet or his toes
- 9:06were small. It doesn't really matter.
- 9:09Speed always changes everybody's views it it always does.
- 9:15And him on the outside edge on any side, left or right with the
- 9:20New York Jets, he would be explosive.
- 9:23Explosive. Now, again, the combine doesn't
- 9:28give you the answers. It doesn't.
- 9:31Does anybody remember Vernon Galston?
- 9:33I think everybody that is a Jet fan remembers Vernon Galston.
- 9:37He dominated at the combine, dominated it strength wise,
- 9:41speed wise, everything. The guy was the best linebacker
- 9:45going into the draft. That's why he was drafted so
- 9:48high by Eric Mangini. Eric Mangini had pretty good
- 9:50drafts when he was there with The Jets.
- 9:52For the three years that he was there, the worst first round
- 9:55draft pick he ever had was Vernon Galston.
- 9:59But he also drafted Darrell Rivas.
- 10:02He also drafted Mangold. He also drafted Ferguson.
- 10:07He was there for all those guys. So you go back in time and you
- 10:12understand what Vernon Goldstein brought to the table.
- 10:15Combine didn't sell me anything. Shadour Sanders was great in his
- 10:22pro day. He looked great.
- 10:23He didn't. He didn't play at the combine.
- 10:24He did interview at the combine. He was absolutely embarrassing.
- 10:28And you hear what you heard about Makai Lemon.
- 10:31I mean, Makai is supposed to be the best slot receiver.
- 10:34Does it make him fall? I don't know.
- 10:36He you're a receiver, You're not a quarterback.
- 10:39And there was a lot of clout with a guy like Shador Sanders
- 10:44because of who his father was. And Deion Sanders came out and,
- 10:48and spoke very, very highly about his son and that you be be
- 10:51making mistake if you you don't draft this guy.
- 10:53And nobody wanted to hear Deion Sanders and nobody wants to deal
- 10:56with Deion Sanders behind the scenes.
- 10:58And that's why a lot of teams probably decided to, to pass up
- 11:02on a guy like Shador Makai. Even if he falls, does he really
- 11:06fall out of the first round? I probably not.
- 11:09And if he does, he's an early second round draft pick.
- 11:12I I could see The Jets in in the early second round with the
- 11:15Cowboys pick. If he falls out of the first
- 11:17round, Makai will be a Jet in the beginning of the first
- 11:21round. I can't see any teams passing up
- 11:24on a kid with this explosive ability.
- 11:27These guys do not grow on trees with the kind of speed that this
- 11:30guy brings to the table as far as the offensive line.
- 11:36Now we've been speaking about Campbell, right?
- 11:40We've been speaking about the Patriots and Campbell looked
- 11:42pretty good all season long. Now in the play offs, certain
- 11:46parts and certain games, he did not look good.
- 11:48He didn't look good against the Texans.
- 11:50He didn't look good in the Super Bowl.
- 11:53So 2 dominant defenses that can get at him and maybe it was his
- 11:57small arms, maybe not because throughout the season he played
- 12:00very, very well. He's he played consistent.
- 12:03So I'm not saying Campbell is a Pro Bowler and this year he
- 12:06wasn't a Pro Bowler, but can he be?
- 12:08Absolutely. Did anybody care that his arm
- 12:11arm length or his hands were small going into the draft?
- 12:15The answer would be no, because he still was a top ten pick.
- 12:19He was still the top tackle drafted in this year's last
- 12:23year's draft. So I I know everybody's looking
- 12:26at that and they're consistently pointing their fingers on, well,
- 12:29this guy can't run the 40 fast. Let's go back to Odell Beckham.
- 12:35Odell Beckham, he did not run the 40 as fast as he runs in
- 12:40games. I don't remember what he ran the
- 12:4240, but he didn't run it like some of these other wide
- 12:45receivers speed demons. And Odell Beckham was still a
- 12:50top 15 pick. And look at what Odell Beckham
- 12:52did. Now, Odell Beckham also came out
- 12:54of the draft. He wasn't healthy.
- 12:56He had a hamstring problem. He missed four games early in
- 12:59the season with the New York Giants and he had hamstring
- 13:01problems coming out of LSU. But once he stepped on a
- 13:06football field, you can see the dynamic player that he became,
- 13:10the star that he became with his ability to catch the ball with
- 13:13one hand, his athletic gifts that he has and he runs routes
- 13:18just he really in his first four years, he was as good as route
- 13:21runner in in the NFL and he exploded right off the paper.
- 13:28Did he have a great combine? No.
- 13:31So combines don't really sell everything about the play.
- 13:35It doesn't. I know everybody wants to
- 13:37believe it. And I think guys like Garrett
- 13:40Nussmeyer who kind of a lot of people thought were was a fourth
- 13:43or fifth round draft pick as a quarterback having the week that
- 13:47he had. I believe that other teams,
- 13:51especially NFL teams that are looking for a quarterback in the
- 13:54second or third round, maybe The Jets, you could look at him as
- 13:57an optional quarterback that you can sit on the bench behind a
- 14:00veteran quarterback and maybe you find lightning in a bottle
- 14:04like a Russell Wilson in a second or third round that falls
- 14:08to you. And it's, it's, it's a player
- 14:11that you can build around now. Nussmeyer was looked at as a
- 14:14first round talent last year. He decided to go back to play
- 14:18for Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly was an absolute
- 14:20bomb. LSU was a complete bomb.
- 14:22He was fired and LSU's program completely fell apart.
- 14:25And you know who's running that program now?
- 14:29But Garris Garrett Nussmeyer has the arm strength.
- 14:31We've seen him throw a football. He's played with a lot of great
- 14:34players, as we all know, successful wide receivers in the
- 14:38NFL. In Jamar Chase, he played with
- 14:42him. There's another superstar player
- 14:45that didn't have a great season that's playing for Jacksonville
- 14:47that played with him in LSU. You know what I'm talking about.
- 14:52He played with a lot of great players in LSU.
- 14:54He was there for a while. I think Garrett Nussmeyer is a
- 14:57guy that you definitely have to take a flyer on, especially what
- 15:01you saw. But David Bailey is an
- 15:06interesting positional defensive lineman.
- 15:11One, everybody likes him. He's big, he's strong, he's fast
- 15:15off the line. Does he move up in the draft
- 15:19because of the combine that he had?
- 15:21Now he's a top ten pick. There's no way David Bailey is
- 15:25falling out of the top ten. No way.
- 15:28There's no way. I cannot see it, but does he
- 15:32jump from 8:00 to 2:00 or 8:00 to 3:00 because of what he did
- 15:38at the combine? Maybe.
- 15:39So maybe The Jets look at David Bailey as the the missing piece
- 15:42to their defense, to Aaron Glenn's defense.
- 15:45I don't know. But I could tell you having a
- 15:50combine like that for a player that's looked at as a top ten
- 15:54pick anyways, he is definitely jumping.
- 15:57Definitely. Now this is not an offensive
- 16:01line draft. It's not, I don't care what
- 16:04anybody says. Last year was an offensive line
- 16:06draft. This is a defensive line draft.
- 16:09There is 7 defensive lineman that are definitely being
- 16:12drafted in the top 22. Guarantee it.
- 16:17And I would say five of these guys could be game changing edge
- 16:21rushers. Now Bain is one of them, Bailey
- 16:27is another one. They believe Reese can be
- 16:30another and he had a great combine.
- 16:32But the guy that really stood out for Ohio State was Sonny
- 16:35Styles, because Sonny Styles, I don't know if he was looked at
- 16:41as an early first round pick. Some people say that he was an
- 16:45early an early second round pick.
- 16:47He jumped after the combine. He had the 43 1/2 inch vertical
- 16:54that he had the combine of of the speed, the 40 yard dash that
- 16:59he ran. He ran it as fast as Reese did.
- 17:02Does that make him better than Reese?
- 17:03No, but there are teams at #5 there is a team at #5 in the
- 17:08Giants and I, I was speaking to Fish and I'm sure Fish is going
- 17:11to have his own take on this. Sonny was the the guy that was
- 17:17calling the plays at the line of scrimmage for the Ohio State
- 17:19Buckeyes. He was the leader of that
- 17:22defense. Reese was a one year starter.
- 17:25He was the one year, one year superstar over there.
- 17:28Ohio State. Styles was there a couple of
- 17:30years. Now does that make Styles
- 17:32better? Does that make him more
- 17:33athletically gifted? Maybe so, but that make him the
- 17:38guy that I'm going to choose in the in a top five over the guy
- 17:42that everybody expects to be a top five pick.
- 17:44No, if Arvel Reese falls to the Giants, the Giants are drafting
- 17:51Reese. I'm sorry, the Giants aren't
- 17:54drafting Sonny Styles. If Reese is there at five, you
- 17:57don't you don't do that. You take the best guy on the
- 18:00board and if you're Joe Shane, that's what you do because Joe
- 18:03Shane's made a lot of mistakes. This wouldn't be a mistake for
- 18:06him. But you look at guys like
- 18:08Zachary Branch and D'Angelo Ponce and Chris Brazil, all
- 18:13these guys had good combines, all of them.
- 18:16And maybe this makes them jump from 2nd to 1st.
- 18:19I don't know. And, and, and to me, even if you
- 18:22fall out of the out of the first round now you're not going to
- 18:24get as you're not going to make as much money.
- 18:25If you're a second round draft pick, you don't get that fifth
- 18:27year option. It might benefit you falling
- 18:31into the second round because if you're a second round draft
- 18:35pick, you only play 4 years and then you could be asking for a
- 18:38big contract, especially if you blow up and you become the
- 18:41player, the star that you believe you are if you fall out
- 18:44of the first round. So with the the NFL combine, I
- 18:49mean the NHL has a combine, the NBA has a combine.
- 18:53All the big sports, even baseball has a combine.
- 18:55Now they, these, the scouts want to see these players in an open
- 19:00competition, and that's what it was.
- 19:03Honestly, I didn't pay any any attention to it.
- 19:06You know why? Because I hate listening to
- 19:08these broadcasters. They all have their own takes.
- 19:10They all have their own thoughts.
- 19:12I mean, Mel Kiper, am I going to trust everything that comes out
- 19:15of Mel Kiper's mouth? Mel Kiper's an idiot, OK?
- 19:19How many mistakes has he made? I remember when he said
- 19:22Christian Hackenberg was going to be a good player in the
- 19:25league. We remember with Christian
- 19:26Hackenberg, remember Clawson, remember him.
- 19:30Yeah, he was supposed to retire, but he didn't 15 years ago and
- 19:33he didn't do it. Every time Mel Kiper came out
- 19:37with his take, I wanted to throw up, seriously.
- 19:41And there are a lot of these guys and I'm not, I'm not taking
- 19:44shots at these guys. Make a living doing what they
- 19:46do. They all do.
- 19:48And they all have a sense of understanding the way the
- 19:50combine works and the way teams are looking for players and the
- 19:54way they like to draft. I don't know what The Jets are
- 19:59planning to do because they have a coach that's falling asleep a
- 20:01pop. I mean, I, I mean, that was the
- 20:03big take. That was during Bailey's stuff
- 20:06too. That's the big take over the the
- 20:08whole weekend with the New York Jets is the pictures that were
- 20:11all over social media of Aaron Glenn falling asleep.
- 20:13I mean, seriously. And when there were a lot of
- 20:15coaches over the years, I mean, Phil Jackson, he fell asleep at
- 20:18the NBA combine. Remember that.
- 20:20Lou, what was what was it with Lou Lamorello?
- 20:22Lou Lamorello too, it seems. Sleepy Lou.
- 20:25That's why I gave him the nickname Sleepy Lou.
- 20:27I, I mean, I, I've given a lot of people nicknames.
- 20:30I'm not going to give Aaron Glenn a nickname because
- 20:31everybody seems to have a nickname for him.
- 20:34I, I did give Robert Salib the name Bambi.
- 20:36And maybe if Aaron Glenn continues doing the, the stupid
- 20:39things that he has done over the last couple of months, maybe I
- 20:42give him a nickname. But I, I'm, I'm going to believe
- 20:45that Aaron Glenn is going to figure things out.
- 20:48But again, you look at the combine and, and you could go up
- 20:51and down on, on what you believe and what you see and what these
- 20:54players are going to be. You don't know because how many
- 20:57players, how many players have we seen in the combine not have
- 21:01good combines? We're not going to be good
- 21:03prospects. They fall to the fourth, they
- 21:06fall to the fifth round and they become stars in the NFL.
- 21:10It happens a lot. It happens a lot, and that's why
- 21:14teams like Seattle have made a living on it.
- 21:18Schneider has made a living on finding guys in the later rounds
- 21:22and turning them into superstars.
- 21:25He has. Don't go look at the the way
- 21:27they've drafted over the years. The Legion of Boom have been
- 21:29built by former drafts pretty much in the later rounds.
- 21:36Look at their secondary. I mean, Witherspoon was a a
- 21:40first round draft pick, top five pick.
- 21:41Yeah, Woollen was not. Woollen was a late round draft
- 21:47pick. He was like, what, fourth round
- 21:48he. Was a fifth round pick, I
- 21:49believe in the same draft as Sauce and Stingley, Yeah.
- 21:52I mean, he found Woollen. Woollen's going to be a highly
- 21:55profiled quarterback that's going to be available this
- 21:58offseason. He he might be resigned.
- 22:01I know whether Witherspoon is going to get signed before he
- 22:03does, but he's going to get paid.
- 22:07And their secondary is as good as any secondary in football as
- 22:10they are now NFL champions, Super Bowl champions.
- 22:15But again, Schneider has made a living on finding guys in the
- 22:18later rounds. Teams have done it for many,
- 22:21many years. Look at Philadelphia, look what
- 22:25Philly's done. They built it around the Georgia
- 22:28Bulldogs. But at least if you look at what
- 22:30they've done over the past couple of drafts and they have
- 22:33one of the best GMs in all of football is he finds players in
- 22:37the later rounds. He goes into the third round, he
- 22:40he picks up picks and he trades off picks and he moves up on
- 22:44players that he feels that is going to fit the way he they
- 22:47want to run their defense and what the way they want to run
- 22:49their offense. And it's worked out.
- 22:51Philadelphia this past year had had, I mean, last last year had
- 22:56a very good draft. Now did it show on the football
- 22:58field? No, you have to develop these
- 22:59guys. It's some of these guys.
- 23:01It takes a couple of years to figure out how they fit to the
- 23:04production that they're going to bring to the team team.
- 23:06So again, going back to what all these guys put up, the numbers
- 23:10they put at the at the combine, how many how many times they put
- 23:14up 225 lbs? Who cares how many push ups they
- 23:18have? I mean, it, that's not part of
- 23:20the combine, but I'd like to know how many push ups these
- 23:22guys could do at once. I mean, I could do 160.
- 23:25I mean, before I, you know, I, my arms died down.
- 23:28I mean, I did it on a live show. I mean, what?
- 23:30Where were we? Speeding.
- 23:31It was a house. We were at Miller's Ale House
- 23:34and I was trying to find content and and I was trying to drive
- 23:38people to listen to our conversations.
- 23:40So I had a push up contest with everybody in there and some of
- 23:43my friends, they tried to do push ups and I said I'm I'm
- 23:46going to knock you all out. And I let everybody do push ups.
- 23:49And, and I think the highest one was Justin, right?
- 23:51He had 83 push ups. Yeah, and then your friend Eric
- 23:54Martini let you down a little bit.
- 23:56I did the same out as him. He really let me down.
- 23:59How did you do? I did.
- 24:01I did 21. I think he did 21.
- 24:03So I'm like, let me see if I can at least do 21 because all the
- 24:05fans wanted me to do it. I'm like, all right, I toughed
- 24:07it out. I did.
- 24:08I did 95. I know.
- 24:09And I was wearing my coat. I was all stiff and I was like,
- 24:13I don't want to do it, But everybody was like, all right,
- 24:15Errol and I listen, I can do push ups.
- 24:18I I'm pretty good at it because I do about 3000 push ups every
- 24:21single week. When you do that many, you know,
- 24:23your arms are not going to give out as quick.
- 24:26But do do you think that that's going to make me challenging?
- 24:29Hey, if if I could beat Quinton Couples in a push up contest,
- 24:32does that mean I'm going to run right past them on a football
- 24:35field? Not a chance in hell.
- 24:37How about this, if I can, if I could do 160 push ups at once,
- 24:42do you think Ruben Bayne is not going to kill me on a football
- 24:45field? It doesn't matter.
- 24:48It did. I listen.
- 24:50The 40 really stands out because if you have these wide receivers
- 24:53running at a 4.23 or 4.26, wow, that's sub speed.
- 24:57But could they do it on a football field when the game is
- 25:00going on, when there's a corner taking you that can run a 40 and
- 25:04a 4.31, Can you do that against a corner that's sticking you the
- 25:09whole game? That's the question.
- 25:11Are you going to be able to run a route?
- 25:14That's the difference. I know Carnell Tate did not have
- 25:18a very good combine. He ran it a 4.53.
- 25:21Let me tell you guys something. Carnell Tate, his game is not
- 25:26built on speed. It's about power.
- 25:29OK? Power.
- 25:30When you watched him play for Ohio State, his game was built
- 25:35on power, right? I'm sorry, not Ohio State,
- 25:38right? Yeah, it was Ohio State.
- 25:39Yeah. I'm thinking about Alabama too,
- 25:40but Alabama doesn't really. No, their kid Williams is not
- 25:44eligible for. Next year, next year.
- 25:46But Carnell Tate, even in in the game, in a game against Miami,
- 25:52he he showed you that he can be an explosive player.
- 25:55He showed you that he can play against elite defenses.
- 25:59Now the only time will tell what how he fits, if he can stay
- 26:03healthy. His health is the problem as far
- 26:05as I'm concerned with a guy like Tate.
- 26:07If, if Carnell Tate could stay healthy, he's going to be a fine
- 26:10wide receiver. He's going to give you 1213
- 26:13hundred yards. That's what you're going to go
- 26:15after when it comes to a first round pick.
- 26:17He can score 8 to 9 touchdowns. I expect him to be that type of
- 26:21wide receiver. He is going to be a top 10
- 26:23prospect and if he falls out of the top ten, he will not fall
- 26:26out of the top 15. He will be the first wide
- 26:29receiver off the board. Speedy yeah, I think Tate maybe
- 26:33maybe the top five talk might go away just because of that, just
- 26:36because of also the pass rushers too, like Bailey doing really
- 26:38well. He might elevate himself into
- 26:39the top five. There's a lot of discussion of
- 26:41obviously these position hybrids too.
- 26:43Caleb Downs, like how early is he going to go even though he's
- 26:45not a premier position? Now we're going to have that
- 26:47debate with Styles because Styles did that well, you're
- 26:49running a 443, you're running with wide receivers.
- 26:52There's not many linebackers that can do that in man coverage
- 26:55that way, probably besides Fred Warner, Like you're not looking
- 26:57at that him as being that positional prototype where as
- 27:01long as you're coach, right, you can make that kind of thing
- 27:02work. That could definitely elevate
- 27:03you into the top ten depending on which teams like getting
- 27:06premier in your positions. Now, obviously there are teams
- 27:08like the Commanders and the Bengals seems like that, that
- 27:10really need pass rush help, really need secondary help.
- 27:12But still my favor somebody like Bailey a little more or Keldrick
- 27:15Faulk, even though he didn't run, I'm still seeing some top
- 27:1710 projections for him now. He's kind of like Rashawn Gary,
- 27:19kind of a weird prototype because he's 6 foot 6 and 270.
- 27:23Like is he a speed rusher? Is he a power rusher?
- 27:25But there's still questions with him as well, and Styles is going
- 27:28to have the same kind of thing as his.
- 27:30Caleb, I would I would worry about Sonny Styles and and not
- 27:33because I don't think he has the athletic ability to be a good
- 27:36player in the NFL. He's not expected to be drafted
- 27:39as high as now he's projected to be.
- 27:42He's jumping very, very fast because of the combine he had.
- 27:46And this is the mistake. We've seen this with Ohio State
- 27:48Buckeye type of players and defensive players over the
- 27:51years, like a Vernon Golston, you jump as high as this because
- 27:54of the combine you have. And let's say the Giants say,
- 27:57you know what, we like him, we're going to draft him at 5.
- 27:59He could be a leader of our defense and he's not as good a
- 28:02player on the football field is what he's putting up when it
- 28:05comes to numbers and athletes, athletic style, athletic ability
- 28:08he has at the combine. You would worry that this could
- 28:12send Joe Shane packing as the GM.
- 28:14Maybe the Giant fans want that, maybe they don't.
- 28:17But this could be the pick that sends Joe Shane packing.
- 28:20And that's the only thing that I would say about Sonny Styles.
- 28:23I don't know if I'm making this move, if I'm the New York
- 28:26Giants, because you're reaching on a prospect because of what he
- 28:30did at the combine, Yeah. And you mentioned, I think
- 28:32middle mid, first round pick was kind of his ceiling before this
- 28:35combine. And that's because I think
- 28:37you're looking at a lot of teams and maybe view him as a missing
- 28:39piece in a defense that already has a good secondary or a good
- 28:42pass rush. As it is already like a team
- 28:45that has a or a support system for a team that has maybe
- 28:48corners that have issues, maybe we'll consider that kind of
- 28:51thing. But with this many this much
- 28:53pass rushing talent, I still should not see him going
- 28:57anywhere past maybe maybe the Chiefs do it at 9 or something
- 29:00like that. Like maybe that's a player that
- 29:01could be interesting even though they could use a pass rusher
- 29:03too, but I don't see him going. Like, I do not see the Chiefs
- 29:08drafting Sonny Styles. I'm telling you right now, Sonny
- 29:11Styles is not going to be a top ten pick.
- 29:13And if he is a top ten pick, whoever's picking him is making
- 29:16a mistake. Yeah, that's.
- 29:17What I was getting at, that's what he was like.
- 29:19Well, I mean, Speedy, the problem with taking Sonny Styles
- 29:22in the top 10 isn't that he's going to be a bad player, it's
- 29:25just that there are a bunch of players that you think are going
- 29:28to be. There's too many edge rushers
- 29:29that are good, yeah. Vernon Golston is a great
- 29:32example arrow that you brought up earlier where he just never
- 29:36had the numbers like in in games, like the numbers at the
- 29:40combine are great. Like Sonny Styles jumps out of
- 29:44the gym. He should be in slam dunk
- 29:46competitions, the type of athlete that he is.
- 29:50But he had one sack last year and one forced fumble and one
- 29:54pick, right? You know, 83 tackles, 46 were
- 29:58solo. You know, like that's a loaded
- 30:00defense. He, he didn't put up big
- 30:03numbers. I don't really want a guy who
- 30:05doesn't put up big numbers. If I'm drafting in the top five.
- 30:08I want a guy like Bane who knows he's just not going to measure
- 30:12grade against some of these freaks from Ohio State at the
- 30:15combine. So he's not going to he's shown
- 30:17enough tape. He had 410 games with four plus
- 30:21pressures, 10 different games this season where he had four or
- 30:26more pressures. That's unheard of.
- 30:28That means he dominated everyone he played and he played
- 30:32everyone. Everyone that was good,
- 30:34including these guys on Ohio State that he had the face as
- 30:37well, right? Everybody, they all had to fade.
- 30:41He's faced everyone and he's put up the tape.
- 30:45He's the guy that you want. Now they're saying his arms
- 30:47might be too short, but he doesn't play like it's the same
- 30:50game. You know, Errol, I told you
- 30:52this. Their line coach, Speedy at EU
- 30:55is Jason Taylor, Hall of Fame pass rusher Jason Taylor, they
- 31:00know he knows all the moves. He's his student.
- 31:04The guy is coming into the NFL with a better move set going
- 31:07inside and outside than anyone else at the position.
- 31:10Maybe he's not the same level athlete as a guy because he's
- 31:14not born 65 like Sonny Styles. But I'll tell you what D end is
- 31:19more important and I want the guy that's put it on that tape
- 31:22every single time. I don't think Styles should go
- 31:24in the top ten either. Errol.
- 31:26I'm a little worried that Harbaugh wants a middle
- 31:28linebacker right, Like Ray Lewis, like he had like he had
- 31:33after Ray Lewis. He.
- 31:34Didn't draft Ray Lewis either. I know, but he inherited Ray
- 31:37Lewis. Yes, he.
- 31:38Did all right I I worry that they want to go and take care of
- 31:42the middle of that defense because think about what he did
- 31:43after that they drafted queen and it didn't work out and they
- 31:48and they traded him for Roquan Smith and paid him the top of
- 31:51the line salary right. So he wants that guy on his
- 31:56team. He's shown in the past that he
- 31:59wants a captain of the defense, and I believe that's important.
- 32:02But I don't think I'm spending top five capital now.
- 32:04The best thing in my opinion, Errol, and I'll stop at this.
- 32:07If the Giants somehow end up with Styles and Reese on the
- 32:11board at 5:00, that's the only way I think they're going to be
- 32:14able to trade down because they should be.
- 32:17People should be asking for that pick.
- 32:18Yeah, I was going to say if Reese, Reese would definitely be
- 32:22a fit for Washington. So if you want another team to
- 32:24trade up and steal them from Washington at.
- 32:26Seven, I don't see. I do not see Reese passing top
- 32:29five. I I cannot see that.
- 32:31He's well, that's why I think if he's at five, yeah, I think the
- 32:34Giants have that position covered.
- 32:37I think that they should try to trade down, get assets, get back
- 32:41to maybe 10 and maybe Caleb Downs is there at 10.
- 32:44That would be nice. Again you really need the right
- 32:46situation though. Like I said, if the edge rushers
- 32:48are there for. Washington because Harbaugh has
- 32:50shown he wants that guy, too. Harbaugh came in with Ed Reid.
- 32:54He went and got Kyle Hamilton right top of the line guy that
- 32:58that's what you want. If you know anything about
- 33:00defense, it's you build it up the middle, you build it on the
- 33:03line and then you build it from middle linebacker and then play
- 33:06calling safety. And that's what you have.
- 33:09And they had. And that's why those Ravens
- 33:11defenses in 2000 were so great with Reed and and Lewis up the
- 33:14middle. I'm interested, I'm interested
- 33:16to see how teams are going to look at this draft and, and fill
- 33:20in spots they need to fill in before they, well, it obviously
- 33:25you have free agency, it's going to open up before obviously the
- 33:30draft. So teams are going to be looking
- 33:32at how they're going to add in free agency and then look at the
- 33:35draft on how they're going to fill in those spots.
- 33:37So I will say this, there are guys right now that The Jets, if
- 33:43you're a Jet fan, The Jets are going to be looking at
- 33:45linebackers. If The Jets are going to bring
- 33:47in a linebacker from, let's say the Lions or somebody else,
- 33:51there's a couple of good linebackers that are going to be
- 33:53available this offseason or a pass rusher, they're going to
- 33:57look elsewhere. Now, I, I also look, I, I, I do
- 34:00believe that The Jets are going to look at Bailey and Bain as
- 34:03their top priorities. Reese is another guy that
- 34:05they're going to look at. But I, I think that if you're a
- 34:08Jet fan, any one of those guys will make you happy.
- 34:10The question is if if you pick wrong with one of these guys and
- 34:14you decide to go with Reese over Bailey and Bain and Bain goes
- 34:19something like 3 spots down or maybe 2 spots down and then
- 34:22barely goes 4 spots down and these two guys become better
- 34:25pass rushers than Reese and Reese is a bomb.
- 34:28I mean, that could, that could set The Jets defense back for
- 34:32years when you're going to get a chance at #2 to get the second
- 34:35best, honestly, the best player off off the board because we all
- 34:39know where #1 is going. It's going to it's going for a
- 34:43quarterback. We know where the Raiders are
- 34:45going. They're going after the Heisman
- 34:47Trophy winner. So that's already off the board.
- 34:49The Jets have the number two pick.
- 34:51They have a chance to pick the best player on the board.
- 34:55If you think Greece is the best player on the board, then draft
- 34:57him. But don't make a mistake and
- 34:59pick wrong and set your team back.
- 35:01Your set your team's defense back for many, many years to
- 35:04come. Let me give you a name before we
- 35:06move on. Errol for the top of that second
- 35:08round. Think about it.
- 35:10The coach is a 59 corner, right? That was fast and really the
- 35:15reason why he was so good is because he locked guys up and
- 35:17you can stay with guys that were bigger than him and fight
- 35:20through the ball. Talking about Darrell Revis, no.
- 35:22No, I'm talking about Aaron Glenn when he was young,
- 35:24younger, when he played himself. Well, Darrell, Darrell Revis was
- 35:27fine. He was 511.
- 35:29Revis. I looked it up.
- 35:29Yeah. He's fine.
- 35:31He's. Fine, but I'll tell you right
- 35:32now. I I.
- 35:32Met Jerrell, he's. Fine.
- 35:34Glenn was small, right, Aaron Glenn.
- 35:35We can agree with small. You know who the small corner is
- 35:37that's dominant in this draft? It's the Indiana corner.
- 35:40It's Pons. Pons plays very similarly and he
- 35:44had a really good combine that I think he may even creep into the
- 35:48first round. But because he's 59, he probably
- 35:51falls to the top of the second and I believe Aaron Glenn is
- 35:56going to be running up there to get that guy because they
- 35:59obviously need Corner too. He's the number one corner and
- 36:03they like the kid from Clemson too.
- 36:04He's he's good too, so. Yeah, he'll definitely be a
- 36:06first round pick. It may be later, but Avion
- 36:09Terrell was AJ Terrell's. Brother and and remember this
- 36:11the same thing. If you look at what the Eagles
- 36:13did a couple of years ago, they they drafted two corners in the
- 36:181st and the second round. They did that and look what they
- 36:21did. They won a Super Bowl after
- 36:23that. If you look at The Jets, I
- 36:25honestly think they really need to secure the secondary of that
- 36:28team and they have two early second round picks and maybe you
- 36:33go corner in both those picks. I I think you go, you want to
- 36:37solidify the secondary and and if you're Aaron Glenn, you want
- 36:40to make sure that your secondary is covered.
- 36:42You have two shut down corners for the next, you know, four to
- 36:46five years. That's the way I go.
- 36:48That's the route I go. And then next year you worry
- 36:50about the offensive side of the ball, because to me, The Jets
- 36:54this year are not going to put up a lot of they're not going to
- 36:57put up a lot of points no matter who the wide receivers are,
- 36:59because they don't even know who their quarterbacks going to be.
- 37:02They they don't have any idea. And even if they go after a Nuss
- 37:06Meyer, if he's still there in the in the fourth round or if
- 37:09The Jets want to trade up in the third round because they don't
- 37:11have a third round pick, you're still you're still reaching with
- 37:15the king. You still don't know what Nuss
- 37:16Meyer is going to be as an NFL quarterback.
- 37:18So you got to be very, very careful on what you're going to
- 37:22do with this year and not an offensive draft.
- 37:24This is this is a defensive draft.
- 37:27Last year was the offensive draft with the wide.
- 37:29Now everybody says there's still a lot of good wide receivers in
- 37:32his class. We still could find wide
- 37:33receivers in a later round, yes, but they're not expected to be
- 37:37stars in his league. Maybe you'll you fit, you'll
- 37:39find lightning in a battle and and one of these guys turned out
- 37:42to be a superstar another Justin Jefferson or or one of these
- 37:46star, you know, wide receivers in a league ACD lamp, but CD
- 37:49lamp Justin Jefferson all first round talents.
- 37:52So there are second, you know, second day guys that have made
- 37:57it into the NFL and become very good players.
- 38:00So we'll see how this all works. It's again, not a draft class
- 38:04that I would say is an offensive draft.
- 38:08Speedy, would you say that? Yeah, yeah.
- 38:10I would say this is a defensive line draft first and a lot of
- 38:13corner depth as well. I don't really think there's a
- 38:15number like superstar type corner right away.
- 38:18Like I think a lot of the the LSU corner, Medelane I think is
- 38:20the first one I've seen on a lot of draft boards, but he's not
- 38:22projected probably until the go to probably 13 or 14.
- 38:26But yeah, defensive lineman, they're all those three.
- 38:28Definitely Reese. I would say Bane, even with the
- 38:31arm length issues, I think would still probably go top top ten,
- 38:35maybe not top five. But again, definitely David
- 38:38Bailey is now going to go in the top ten.
- 38:39I wasn't as sure on him because I I look at like Tyree Wilson
- 38:42was the last Texas Tech pass rusher and he went in the top
- 38:4510. Hasn't really developed with the
- 38:46Raiders. I thought he would be good but
- 38:48it was a weird fit over there. I think Bailey might be a little
- 38:50better than him as a college prospect wise, but he's still
- 38:54going to go top ten regardless. And now you're dealing with a
- 38:56case of with Auburn and some of those other SEC pass rushers
- 39:00that could go there too. So, yeah, this is definitely a
- 39:02defensive heavy draft, especially now.
- 39:04Now with these new reports too, are there's questions with these
- 39:07tackles being able to be a tackle in the NFL now?
- 39:09I also look at the NFL in the draft.
- 39:12Everybody looks at the combine. It's the end all be all.
- 39:15Oh, you could find a player. If this guy has an unbelievable
- 39:18combine, that's the guy I'm going to go after against the
- 39:21guy that had a great season, like Bane.
- 39:23Like you were saying, Fish Bane is that type of player that can
- 39:26change a team, change a defense. You're not going to pass up on
- 39:30the guy because somebody had a combine better or he didn't have
- 39:33a combine or he didn't want to. He he he decided, you know what,
- 39:36I'm going to do a pro day because that's what he's going
- 39:38to do. He's got every one of these
- 39:39players have a pro day. So he is going to have his pro
- 39:42day. He's going to show off to the
- 39:43scouts. He just decided, hey, you know
- 39:45what, I don't want to do it in front of all these other people.
- 39:48I'm going to do it in on my field.
- 39:50I'm going to do it in front of my guys and with my guys and
- 39:52show what I could do on my own field.
- 39:54So I, I just think I know a lot of people don't obviously don't
- 39:59like when these guys don't show up, especially a defensive
- 40:01lineman obviously wants to compete with the other guys.
- 40:05But I'm not going to say that Bane is not the guy that I'm
- 40:09going to go after. That's not the guy that I'm
- 40:11going to go and reach for just because of his arm length or or
- 40:15that type of player that he has become in people's eyes because
- 40:19hey, he doesn't fit the NFL mold of player so.
- 40:24Remember Aaron Donald? They just said that he didn't
- 40:27fit the mold either. He was 6 foot tall and you know
- 40:30his arms weren't long enough. He had to play inside.
- 40:32Well guess what, He became the best.
- 40:34The tackle in the game, maybe the games I've received the best
- 40:383 technique. I mean just you never know.
- 40:40You just got to look at the tape.
- 40:42Watch what he does in games and if he always dominates there's a
- 40:46good chance he's a pretty damn good player.
- 40:48You don't give up on a player just because he decided, you
- 40:50know what, I didn't want to play.
- 40:52I didn't want to compete at the combine because all the scouts
- 40:56and all the better scouts are going to go to his pro day.
- 40:58Because if you're drafting in a top five, you're going to look
- 41:01at him and say that that might be the guy that's going to
- 41:04change my defense for the next 10 years.
- 41:07And he could be a Super Bowl contending pass rusher that's
- 41:09going to cause havoc at the line of scrimmage every time he's out
- 41:13there and he's a three down defensive lineman.
- 41:16He's that kind of player. He's going to be out there every
- 41:18single game. He's a Michael Parsons, he's got
- 41:21that kind of motor. He's that kind of player that
- 41:24can go on the edge with speed. And I'm sure he's going to he's
- 41:28going to lose a little bit of weight for this, this pro day
- 41:31because he's going to show all the different moves that he has
- 41:33with his his arms. And, and everybody says arms,
- 41:37arms are the most important thing when it comes to defensive
- 41:39line. That's not true because Von
- 41:42Miller, Von Miller built his game on athletic gifts that he
- 41:47has his spinning ability, moving inside and out, using his
- 41:51position and his ability of using his speed to get inside
- 41:55and attack the quarterback. So don't tell me that because
- 41:58this guy has small arms or small hands or small feet, that's the
- 42:03reason why you don't draft them in the top five.
- 42:05It's a ridiculous statement and you don't pass up on a guy
- 42:08that's gifted like him. Yeah, you're never going to pass
- 42:10up on a guy that already has those athletic traits anyway, as
- 42:12long as there isn't an off field issue.
- 42:14And as of right now, we haven't heard anything with that either.
- 42:16And I just want to finish off before we move on with with the
- 42:19off field issue that you were talking about Fish with Makai
- 42:20Lemon, which is interesting because he was actually my wide
- 42:23receiver three. I thought I know you mentioned
- 42:25you weren't sure if he was the first round pick last week,
- 42:27Errol. I thought he was, but I again, I
- 42:30will. He now he will.
- 42:31He'll fall. He'll fall out of the first
- 42:33round. Or maybe a team that like
- 42:35doesn't need the leader in the draft that maybe needs a
- 42:37receiver in the 1st. He'll fall, he'll fall in the
- 42:40second round, They'll be teams lining up in the top ten of the
- 42:43second round and they're going to draft.
- 42:45They can't pass up on a wide receiver.
- 42:46That can change, change your team in your offense.
- 42:49I mean, you can put him on a slot, you can put him on the
- 42:51outside, He can run. This guy has a gift of running
- 42:54and he's a good route runner, yes.
- 42:55So anybody would look at his gifts and say, wow, that's the
- 43:00kind of guy that I want to draft and that's the guy I don't care
- 43:03what he does on and off the field or some of the stupid
- 43:06thinks he says but did. You see what he did, though,
- 43:08like every clip you see of what he did at the combine, he tried
- 43:12to like, intimidate the reporters.
- 43:15It was like he like, tried to act like he was real tough and
- 43:19look better than it was. It was really hard to watch.
- 43:22It was like he got really bad advice.
- 43:24I hope that's all it was. But everyone saw what happened
- 43:27this year for Sanders last year. We all know what happened to
- 43:30him. No one thinks it's going to
- 43:31happen again, but I think this guy may have talked his way out
- 43:35of the first round. And that's a shame because the
- 43:37guy's a really, really great receiver.
- 43:40I think he's going to play in the slot like more like an Amman
- 43:42Ross St. Brown.
- 43:43He says he's wants to model his game after him.
- 43:45Another Trojan. You know, that's probably why I
- 43:48picked him. But I it's, it's a similar comp.
- 43:52I mean, the guy, if you could be Amman, St.
- 43:54Ross, St. Brown, you take that in the
- 43:55first round every single time. Obviously, you know, so maybe he
- 43:58can do it, but you worry about those character concerns,
- 44:01especially in the first round. That's how GM's get fired.
- 44:05Yeah, I, I do think that Lemon is not going to be passed up in
- 44:09the second round. You, you can't look at a player
- 44:11with those kind of gifts and just say I don't like his
- 44:14attitude. This is not Shidor Sanders.
- 44:15This is not a quarterback. And you have to hit on the
- 44:19quarterback. You can't make that mistake.
- 44:20Quarterbacks are so very, very important to the team in the
- 44:24organization and you you don't want to strike out on that.
- 44:26And that's why he fell as far as he did, because they didn't like
- 44:30his attitude. They didn't like how he
- 44:31interviewed and he didn't like how he went up there when he
- 44:33spoke to the reporters and said, well, I'm Shadora Sanders.
- 44:36He was talking into a third person.
- 44:38It doesn't work in the NFL. Kyla Murray has really pushed
- 44:41his way out of Arizona because of it.
- 44:43Now he's not even showing up and in speaking to the ownership and
- 44:46speaking to the the GM and, and, and even even conversating about
- 44:50where he sees himself with the Arizona Cardinals.
- 44:52And that's why he's on his way out.
- 44:54And that's why they're going to move them.
- 44:55You need to be able to speak, speak freely, but not speak in a
- 45:00way that's going to scare people away from you.
- 45:03That's what Lemon did. But that doesn't mean that teams
- 45:06are going to pass up and he's going to fall all the way to the
- 45:08fifth round. If he falls anywhere past the
- 45:11second round, he is an absolute 100% steal in the third round
- 45:16and I can't see him going past the first pick of the third
- 45:19round. You'd be an idiot, maybe even I
- 45:21would say not even the mid second.
- 45:23You would be an idiot. Just because of some bad
- 45:25interviews. We've also heard, like how many
- 45:26the teams have also asked these prospects weird interview
- 45:29questions too. Like, I think they were making a
- 45:30big. I think when Arthur Smith was in
- 45:31Atlanta, he was like they asked him some of these prospects was
- 45:35the weirdest. Question Wasn't St.
- 45:36Brown a fourth round draft? Yeah, he was late.
- 45:38Yeah, he was in that 21 draft too, with Chase and.
- 45:40Wattle and all. Stuff like he didn't get a lot
- 45:43of run and he was hurt. So like nobody really got to see
- 45:46him play. It was one of those weird years
- 45:48with him. Look, I really don't know what
- 45:52it's going to take for some of these guys to to wake up and
- 45:56just realize if you don't play, put good film on tape, it
- 46:00doesn't matter. Now if you take a look at that
- 46:02Miami team, they had offensive lineman that murdered people all
- 46:05season and Mulgoa at right tackle was a freaking murderer.
- 46:10But he was better in the run game than I thought in the past
- 46:12blocking. And usually, and this is that
- 46:14why Will Campbell stayed at tackle because Will Campbell is
- 46:17a left tackle and left tackles are usually left on an island in
- 46:20the past protection scheme a lot more than the right tackle.
- 46:23So they have more experience handling this type of pass rush
- 46:27at right tackle. You don't.
- 46:28So it's more likely a right tackle will be moved inside to
- 46:31guard, then a left tackle would be moved inside to guard.
- 46:34And I think there's a lot of valid, you know, discussion
- 46:37we'll go is 65310, some 320, something like that, which is,
- 46:42you know, kind of like average, which is like guard size, right?
- 46:44It's a little small for tackle, which is crazy to say that's
- 46:47small in any imagination. That's small for tackle because
- 46:51I'm going to tell you about another guy in a second Proctor.
- 46:53But Mogoa, like if he plays guard, he could be the next
- 46:58great guard in the league, but he definitely could play right
- 47:01tackle for you. I would rather have him as a
- 47:03Giant. If we traded back.
- 47:05I'm good with that. I have no problem playing in a
- 47:08right tackle. Then maybe down the road we
- 47:10slide him into guard if we get a tackle.
- 47:12Yeah. And I think a lot beautiful.
- 47:13I think as long as the prospect is there, like is that good like
- 47:16Malgo was supposed to be like, I don't think A-Team would have a
- 47:19problem slotting a minute right tackle versus.
- 47:20Left and also when you watch these guys practice against guys
- 47:24like Ruben Bain and and mazador, these guys were practicing with
- 47:29mangoa, so he was practicing with some of the best pass
- 47:32rushers in the country and so you know we can compete against
- 47:35them because there's film you can see there if you go watch
- 47:38them practice they're playing one-on-one every single practice
- 47:41against one another. So you know that Magog could
- 47:44actually be a really good player in the end at the NFL level
- 47:47because these guys are supposed to be NFL level pass rusher.
- 47:50So and Mesedor, he's going to be a top end draft.
- 47:53He's. Going to be a late first round
- 47:54pick. I've seen him in most boxes.
- 47:55He'll be. He'll be.
- 47:56Like in the 20s, I think, or late teens.
- 47:58The other guy that that we talked about was Proctor, and
- 48:01Proctor's the big Alabama tackle.
- 48:03He reminds me of Mckayback. Would you?
- 48:06I, I want to say this, if you're the New York Jets at #2 you
- 48:10let's say you, you pick Ruben Bane and you look at Mesador and
- 48:14you have the number 16th pick. You trade down, you still, you
- 48:18get it, you get a third round draft pick for that.
- 48:20You trade down a couple of spots.
- 48:22You still can get Mesador at the 2021 spot.
- 48:26Would you do that and combine Mesador and Bane together on
- 48:31that defensive line for the next five years?
- 48:34I mean, if you were The Jets, that's the route I go.
- 48:37You solidify your defensive line and then in the second round,
- 48:41you go for corners and, and, and you, you solidify that
- 48:44secondary. Then you really built your
- 48:46defense up for the next 5 to 4 years.
- 48:50And, and you, you really have something.
- 48:52And then you in free agency, you're bringing in a linebacker
- 48:55or two. You'll have one of the best
- 48:57defenses in the AFC, especially in the AFC East.
- 49:00So automatically you transition and change everything for what
- 49:04The Jets were not last year. They didn't have the pass
- 49:07rushing depth. Now you put bane on one side and
- 49:10mesodor on the other and these guys played against one.
- 49:13They played with each other for how many years with each other
- 49:16and and put them on The Jets a super line.
- 49:19I I think this would be a perfect fit.
- 49:20And then you have Phillips in the middle and then you have the
- 49:24kid that they just sweat that they just added to the defensive
- 49:26line. Now you have your four guys
- 49:28right up front that are going to be able to go after the for the
- 49:30quarterback, yet you bring in a linebacker or two and free
- 49:34agency. And then you bring in two young
- 49:36corners and, and, and then you still little.
- 49:38And I think you do have a pretty, we'll see how the
- 49:41safeties work in free agency, because I know The Jets were
- 49:43interested. I forget what safety they were
- 49:45interested in. There is somebody in, in the, in
- 49:47free agency The Jets are interested in.
- 49:49But and they have the kid from Alabama that played pretty well
- 49:53when he was staying, when he was actually healthy this year.
- 49:55So I think you could solidify your defense in in the first and
- 49:59second round off the top. And by the way, you trade down,
- 50:02you get that third round draft pick, which you're missed, and
- 50:05then you can go after a nuts Meyer in the third round and
- 50:08reach on that, or a wide receiver if he falls to them in
- 50:10the third. Round and and give yourself
- 50:12another weapon. Probably need a tailback too.
- 50:14Breeze Hall on the franchise tag.
- 50:16You would imagine they're going to go get a tailback day 2.
- 50:19You get it in day three, you can get one in.
- 50:21You got two 4th. Round draft picks, you can get
- 50:24one. That Arkansas kid ran a four,
- 50:27three, I believe was the fastest running back time.
- 50:30That's an interesting one. I was going to tell you Proctor
- 50:33before we move on Proctor. I just don't know if I'm the one
- 50:37drafting him. I don't know how many 6, seven,
- 50:40370 LB guards are successful in the NFLI.
- 50:44Know it worked a little bit with Mackay back then that year with
- 50:48the Eagles get into the Super Bowl and win in the Super Bowl
- 50:51didn't work as well as the year after that, right for where
- 50:54where he went. And I don't know if that's a
- 50:57great choice Alabama lineman for whatever reason.
- 51:01And look, we know it with Evan Neal.
- 51:03It just hasn't panned out. It's really just like I used to
- 51:06play against a team like this in high school that they just had
- 51:09like 3 times as many kids in their school and their guys are
- 51:12just bigger than us. They weren't better, they just
- 51:14had more big guys. And Alabama is just like that
- 51:17bully team where they just have the big hulking lineman.
- 51:20Are they the best lineman? Not necessarily.
- 51:23Do they look really good when they play together and beat
- 51:24teams up? Yes they do.
- 51:25Yeah, they're going to lose. I would be a little afraid of
- 51:27Proctor. He's going to lose value too
- 51:29even if they do move him in interior too because the Penn
- 51:31State kid, their interior kid did really well at the combine.
- 51:34But Proctor's going to be a good player.
- 51:36I don't think even if he falls in a couple of spots or maybe
- 51:38falls in the second round, the guy's going to be good player at
- 51:41Alabama. I know if you look at in the
- 51:44past, Evan Neil and there are guys like Williams, Jonah
- 51:48Williams that was drafted by the Bengals really didn't play at
- 51:51the high level that everybody thought he was going to be as as
- 51:54high a pick as he was with the Bengals.
- 51:56I do believe that guys like Proctor, they do fit in the NFL
- 52:00type of game. He's a big guy.
- 52:02You move him into the guard position, whatever it, it
- 52:05doesn't matter. He'll fit in.
- 52:06You put him. Look at Makai Becton, Mackay
- 52:09Becton did not fit out, fit very well as a tackle.
- 52:12They moved him inside and he became a Pro Bowl.
- 52:14Well, The Jets didn't move him inside.
- 52:16The Eagles moved him inside and then he became a Pro Bowl guard
- 52:19in the NFL and then he got a big contract and he, I think he went
- 52:22to the Chargers and got a big contract from the Chargers.
- 52:25So you can definitely move a guy with.
- 52:28The Athletic He was like the second worst guard in the NFL
- 52:33last year. Mackay, Beck.
- 52:34Yeah, because he wasn't healthy. Yeah, because he wasn't healthy.
- 52:37And that off that offensive flying was not healthy.
- 52:39When you lose Slater and you lose Alt the way they did early
- 52:43in the season, Slater didn't even play.
- 52:45He he got hurt in preseason and and he got that big contract and
- 52:49then Alt they lost him what in 6-7?
- 52:51Against the Giants Week 4. They lost him pretty quick.
- 52:54I I mean when you lose 2 tackles that good and and I'm going to
- 52:57tell you this right now, the Chargers offensive line is going
- 52:59to be the best offensive line in the NFL next year.
- 53:02You can book that you. Can book it might it might not
- 53:05have Makai Becton on it. You know, like he really was bad
- 53:08last last year. So it, he had that one really
- 53:11good season. It's proven that it can work.
- 53:14But I I just don't know how many times we've seen guards this big
- 53:17be successful in the NFL. I, I stand behind him as a
- 53:22player. I, I saw what he did with the,
- 53:24the Eagles. He was a big part of that
- 53:26offensive line and that run that they had all the way to the
- 53:28Super Bowl. He was a big part him and Saquon
- 53:31Barkley. Now him going to another team in
- 53:35his first year under a guy like Harball and losing the players
- 53:38that they lost. They just, first of all, they
- 53:40signed Mackay, Becton signed a three-year deal.
- 53:43So he's there for at least another year and I can't see him
- 53:46losing his position because I, I don't know how much they paid
- 53:49him, but they paid him a pretty decent amount to be their
- 53:52starting guard. I don't see them just decide
- 53:55automatically, hey, we're going to part ways with him.
- 53:58What were you going to say? He.
- 54:00It's two year. He signed the two year, $20
- 54:02million deal in March. They could cut him.
- 54:05They could. They're not going to cut him.
- 54:07They're not. And I I thought he signed a. 2.5
- 54:10million dead cap charge that wouldn't really hurt them that
- 54:12much. I don't think they're going to
- 54:14cut him. I I think they'll ride with him
- 54:15and see what he does in, you know, OTAs.
- 54:18But Makai Becton just needs to keep his weight down.
- 54:21That was been that's been his problem since he came into the
- 54:23league. When he came from Louisville, he
- 54:26didn't work out with The Jets because I thought The Jets
- 54:28should have moved him to guard after his first season.
- 54:31After the first season, he had a good first season and everybody
- 54:34liked him. I just thought you can see that
- 54:37he was never going to stay healthy the way these speed
- 54:40Edgers were going to come off the edge and attack him.
- 54:43Because after watching film, after the first year, they watch
- 54:46enough film, they're going to be able to attack him in a
- 54:48different kind of way. So and that's what they did in
- 54:50his second year. He wasn't as good and he
- 54:52couldn't stay healthy. He had that knee problem in his
- 54:54second year and and it was a problem.
- 54:56So I'm interested to see teams like the Chargers at full
- 55:00strength this coming season. And also in the in the draft,
- 55:04the Chargers didn't have, they don't have wide receiving help.
- 55:08They don't have anything. And I expect maybe the Chargers
- 55:11reaching for Lemon in the second round, maybe trading up with the
- 55:14The Jets and getting a guy like Lemon because he would be an
- 55:18explosive player on that Chargers team, especially a
- 55:20speed demon. And what is Mike McDaniel like
- 55:23those fast guys that can run routes like Tyreke or a Waddle?
- 55:29These guys are just speed demons that can run routes.
- 55:31And I'm telling you right now, a guy like Lemon would fit in a
- 55:34Mike McDaniel type of off. Yeah, I was just saying that was
- 55:35a perfect fit for him in the first round.
- 55:37Like it made sense to you? No, but the.
- 55:39Chargers. Not anymore.
- 55:40I think he falls out because of what he did at the combine.
- 55:42I mean, those interviews really pissed people off him and once
- 55:46GM start to talk with another, with another, especially with
- 55:50the interviews because the interviews are the most
- 55:52important thing. I really do believe that.
- 55:54Say whatever you want. It's when you're sitting down
- 55:56with the coach in the GM and you're having a conversation and
- 55:59they're showing you literature of how to read offense or how to
- 56:02read defenses that they're going to run.
- 56:05You have to interview very, very well and they're asking you
- 56:08silly questions. They're asking you dumb
- 56:10questions at this combine. And if you don't want to answer
- 56:14them or you don't give them a straight up answer, they're
- 56:16going to look at you and say, why did you ask me that
- 56:17question? So obviously as, as a
- 56:22personality, you have to go into those interviews and understand
- 56:25that what they're looking for. And that's why you're, you're,
- 56:28you're practicing. You're, you're, you're, you have
- 56:31a coach, you're, you're sitting down with Jon Gruden before the
- 56:34combine, because guys like Jon Gruden is going to give you the
- 56:37understanding of what they're looking for because he's coached
- 56:40and he, he's looking for this, you know, persistent personality
- 56:45that's going to give you the right information, that's going
- 56:47to give me that, that thought that says, yeah, that's the guy.
- 56:50That's the guy that I want. And I don't know if what Lemon
- 56:53said, but obviously it wasn't very good to multiple GMs and
- 56:57now all the GMs are speaking. It's like, do do you really want
- 57:00this head case on your roster? Would you draft him in the first
- 57:03round or take him in the second round and take a chance with
- 57:07them and see if this guy's the steal of the NFL draft?
- 57:11And he might be. He really might be.
- 57:13And like you said before, like there might be like teams that
- 57:16don't that have passed up on character issues in the past
- 57:18that still could get him in the second round and still could
- 57:20make it a good value. Like the Cardinals drafted a lot
- 57:23of guys last year that had a lot of character issues and
- 57:25obviously the Browns forgot about it.
- 57:26They draft character issue guys all the time, not even Justin or
- 57:29Sanders. They drafted A defensive tackle
- 57:30too, that had a domestic violence charge on him the year
- 57:33before or something like that. So they might still get a good
- 57:36value out of him as a wide receiver and Miami if they if he
- 57:39falls there to the mid mid second round Dallas.
- 57:42Oh no, The Jets have their picks.
- 57:43I guess they wouldn't but like there's enough guy teams are
- 57:46still going to do that because of the character.
- 57:47I, I like if, if you're, if you're a team looking for a wide
- 57:52receiver and if he falls out of the first round, you're
- 57:55absolutely in the top five picks of the second round.
- 57:57Going to jump on this kid. Yeah, you, you cannot not jump
- 58:01on a kid that is a first round talent, A-Team talent, a guy.
- 58:05Remember Elijah Moore now he's better than Elijah Moore.
- 58:08Definitely Elijah Moore fell to the second round.
- 58:10A lot of people thought he was a late 1st around talent.
- 58:13Elijah Moore really didn't develop in the NFLI know he was
- 58:16Brown's best friend and they grew up together and he's like a
- 58:19little brother to him. And Brown came out and and said,
- 58:21oh, not Antonio Brown, by the way.
- 58:25I just say he doesn't have that level of character issues.
- 58:27Yet, but I, I, I think that what Elijah Moore did is he, he
- 58:32didn't develop maybe because he went to The Jets, maybe it was
- 58:35just the coaching staff or they didn't put him in the right
- 58:37position to succeed. But Elijah Moore, even when he
- 58:40went to the Browns and when he jumped from team to team, it
- 58:42just hasn't worked out in the NFL.
- 58:44Speed doesn't always work out in the NFL.
- 58:47You have to be a good route runner.
- 58:48And if you look at the past, look at look at Justin
- 58:51Jefferson, everybody says, well, what makes Justin Jefferson so
- 58:54good? Is it is it his athletic ability
- 58:56or is his speed? Justin Jefferson's fast, but is
- 58:59he the fastest wide receiver in the NFL?
- 59:01No. His route running, the ability
- 59:04to see the field the way he does stop and, and move in, in a, in
- 59:08a slant, you know, or move in a jig and, and, and catch that
- 59:12ball and run on the outside the way he does.
- 59:15He is one of the best in the league.
- 59:17He's a an Odell Beckham prototype kid that has been so
- 59:21successful in the league. And if McCarthy can actually
- 59:23throw him the ball, you know, he has 15 hundred 1500 yards last
- 59:28year and and 10 touchdowns instead of 2.
- 59:30So I I mean, you need a guy that can get him the ball.
- 59:32So the quarterback is the most important position.
- 59:34And that's why Shador Sanders fell out of the first round,
- 59:37fell out of the second round and all the way to the fifth round,
- 59:39because nobody liked the fact that the way he interviewed and
- 59:42the way he talked to the media. I don't know if what Lemon said
- 59:45to the media or what Lemon said in the at the combine.
- 59:49Speaking to the GM and the coaches is going to really
- 59:52change his position because his numbers at the combine were
- 59:55pretty damn good. Yeah, and also like you were
- 59:57saying too with the with Justin Jefferson, like going to the
- 1:00:01argument with Tate too, like a lot of people, I think he's
- 1:00:03going to fault. So that's another example of,
- 1:00:05like I was saying, crystal lame last week, but Jefferson maybe
- 1:00:08didn't showcase the route tree as much.
- 1:00:09It tells you because Jamar Chase did a lot of the deep stuff and
- 1:00:11all that stuff, but Jefferson is showing it in the NFL.
- 1:00:13He could do everything. And now you're seeing that kind
- 1:00:15of thing with Tate or what the level he could be.
- 1:00:16Just because he played with Jeremiah Smith doesn't mean he
- 1:00:18couldn't do other things too. To me, when you look at a
- 1:00:21player, you look at what obviously what program they're
- 1:00:25coming out of. Programs are so very important
- 1:00:29because if you look at Ohio State, they have been known to
- 1:00:33have great wide receivers. Alabama has been known to have
- 1:00:36great wide receivers. USC has been known to have great
- 1:00:40wide receivers. You see what I'm saying?
- 1:00:42Miami, over the years, good wide receivers.
- 1:00:45So you look at those organizations and those those
- 1:00:49programs and say if it's the right coach or it's the the
- 1:00:54right player, those are the guys I'm going after in the first and
- 1:00:57second round or third round, late third round picks to to
- 1:01:01reach on. Because those guys come from the
- 1:01:03best programs. Those guys come from programs
- 1:01:05where there's a success rate at those positions.
- 1:01:08So that's the way I look at it and that's the way if I'm AGM
- 1:01:12and I'm looking at what I'm looking for when it comes to
- 1:01:15style, when it comes to speed or when it comes to route running
- 1:01:19and how they're going to play offense or defense in the NFL.
- 1:01:23That's the way I'm going to draft my players.
- 1:01:26Thank you to all the fans, all the people tuning in and
- 1:01:29following us on Spotify and Apple.
- 1:01:32We had a very big weekend when it came to views and unique
- 1:01:37listeners. I, I don't get what's going on
- 1:01:40as far as the Apple and Spotify credit.
- 1:01:42Doesn't make any sense to me. There were people jumping 100
- 1:01:46spots. It makes no sense.
- 1:01:48There's somebody tampering over there at Apple, so it doesn't
- 1:01:52make any sense. But whatever, I'm not going to
- 1:01:55say anything. All I know is we really
- 1:01:57appreciate everybody on Apple and Spotify and audio and video
- 1:02:01for tuning in and checking us out on the YouTube channel.
- 1:02:04Job in the mouth. Job in the mouth, New York
- 1:02:07sports. Thank you.
- 1:02:09Our interns are working on the new YouTube channel, so go check
- 1:02:14that out and our Job in the mouth regular channel.
- 1:02:16We thank all the guys and girls and gals checking it out and
- 1:02:20tuning in. We really guys, we know we're
- 1:02:22not, we don't have a niche and that that could be the reason
- 1:02:26why people aren't driving to the YouTube channel all the time
- 1:02:29because we're not a Knicks show. We're not a net show or a Yankee
- 1:02:34show or a Mets show or an Islanders or Rangers show or
- 1:02:37whatever. We're we're an all show.
- 1:02:39We like to talk all sports and I I I know that's something that
- 1:02:44affects the algorithm. So we were getting we understand
- 1:02:46what's going on, but we put it out there.
- 1:02:49We put our YouTube channel up for all the the people that want
- 1:02:53to watch the show live and check us out and, and TuneIn and
- 1:02:56interact with us. So that's why we do it.
- 1:02:58If it was up to me, we wouldn't even have a live YouTube
- 1:03:01channel. I really don't care, you know,
- 1:03:03So but we appreciate all the fans that TuneIn on TikTok,
- 1:03:08Instagram X Jabba in the mouth, all the guys, girls that are
- 1:03:14tuning in on Facebook, worldwide sports radio network.
- 1:03:16It's great. We, we, we, we believe and I I'm
- 1:03:19stuttering because I'm trying to get out the the magic words.
- 1:03:23It's not even we believe. The fact here is there is nobody
- 1:03:28in this industry putting up the numbers that we're putting up on
- 1:03:32every single platform that is not signed by a network.
- 1:03:36Now we are under blue wire and that is a network, but I'm
- 1:03:40talking about one of the major big networks.
- 1:03:43So what we're doing is unique and different.
- 1:03:46We work our asses off to entertain you guys and perform
- 1:03:50the best possible product that we have.
- 1:03:53We put it out there 110% and even the interns on the back
- 1:03:57end, they work on the videos, they cut, they chop, they put it
- 1:04:00out there. So for all the fans out there on
- 1:04:03Spotify and Apple listening to the steak right now, when when
- 1:04:05you get a chance to listen to it, listen to me and hear me
- 1:04:08out. You guys are the reason why we
- 1:04:10do this. You guys are the reason why we
- 1:04:13do this. So we appreciate all you guys
- 1:04:16that TuneIn and love what we do. It means the world to me.
- 1:04:20I want to thank everybody and we'll be back on Thursday with
- 1:04:25Chris Childs. Yes, Chris Childs will be here
- 1:04:28on Jabba in the Mouth. I want to give a shout out to
- 1:04:31Jabba Chamberlain. Today is the year anniversary of
- 1:04:34his father's passing. We, we love you Jabba.
