- 0:00Speaker 1: I swear these podcasts are coming around even quicker again.
- 0:03Speaker 1: And maybe it feels like that for me because I'm
- 0:05Speaker 1: not going to say I'm dreading it, guys. But I
- 0:07Speaker 1: had the worst game week and I hate it when
- 0:08Speaker 1: that happens. So, yes, here we are to review the
- 0:12Speaker 1: last game week. Forget about that very quickly. And look
- 0:14Speaker 1: ahead to the next game week, which is, of course,
- 0:17Speaker 1: game week five. The final one for an elongated international break.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So you could argue an even more important podcast, an
- 0:24Speaker 1: important show, an important deadline. than we've had so far. Hello, Sam. Hello, Jules.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Shall we get it out of the way?
- 0:32Speaker 2: You both did really well.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Sam, you in particular. She beat us both, Jules. She
- 0:36Speaker 1: had a great game week.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Go on, Sam. You can go first. Let's get it done.
- 0:40Speaker 3: For once oh it was good no no no Jules
- 0:43Speaker 3: come on I've actually had a good season so far
- 0:45Speaker 3: and for a lot of this weekend I was ahead
- 0:47Speaker 3: of you and I was very happy you can't call
- 0:50Speaker 3: it a good season after four weeks you can call
- 0:52Speaker 3: it a start oh we can oh Kels after last
- 0:54Speaker 3: season when the whole season was dreadful we can count
- 0:58Speaker 3: this as a good start so yeah a really good
- 1:01Speaker 3: game week the defence absolutely you know I don't think
- 1:05Speaker 3: I could have asked for a lot more than them.
- 1:06Speaker 3: At one point on Saturday, I did think, oh, I've
- 1:09Speaker 3: done the wrong thing because I benched Kinski and played Verbruggen.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And obviously when the Spurs clean sheet locked in, I
- 1:15Speaker 3: was thinking, oh, I think I've probably done the wrong
- 1:18Speaker 3: thing here. However, Verbruggen then beaten by a point by
- 1:21Speaker 3: making the extra save. So that was nice. So Verbruggen
- 1:24Speaker 3: with eight. I have now got two Arsenal defenders and
- 1:27Speaker 3: I made the decision.
- 1:30Speaker 3: That seemed a lot, maybe a bit rogue to a
- 1:32Speaker 3: lot of people to bench one of my Arsenal defenders
- 1:34Speaker 3: in favour of playing my old friend, Leif Davis. And
- 1:38Speaker 3: that ended up being a bit of a stroke of
- 1:40Speaker 3: genius when Davis returned his 14 points. And actually I
- 1:43Speaker 3: was a bit upset in the end because when I
- 1:45Speaker 3: watched back on Match of the Day, the second of
- 1:48Speaker 3: his assists and it bounced back off the bar, I thought,
- 1:51Speaker 3: what could have been? Because it would have been a
- 1:53Speaker 3: lovely thing to have had a brace out of him.
- 1:55Speaker 3: But we still got a couple of assists, which was great.
- 1:57Speaker 3: The midfield were disappointing. I bought in Morgan Rodgers this week.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He got eight points. That was good. But the rest
- 2:03Speaker 3: of them, Bruno Fernandes with two, Solis with three and
- 2:04Speaker 3: Sabozlai with three, particularly Sabozlai in that game against Fulham.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I think I was expecting more from him. But the
- 2:10Speaker 3: front three, really, really great. Jal Pedro was my captain,
- 2:13Speaker 3: so got 24 points.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Out of him.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Haaland with nine and then Dominic Calvert-Lewin with 10. Although
- 2:19Speaker 3: now would have been 12 because we've seen that the
- 2:22Speaker 3: Premier League have changed the assist that he got to
- 2:26Speaker 3: a goal so obviously that can't change in terms of
- 2:28Speaker 3: fpl points now because the game is closed so that
- 2:32Speaker 3: would have been an extra two points so that would
- 2:34Speaker 3: have been very nice but 95 for the week a
- 2:36Speaker 3: very nice big green arrow and i'm chasing jaws very
- 2:40Speaker 3: closely now so not long and i'll be back ahead
- 2:44Speaker 3: that's very true it's been a while as well since
- 2:46Speaker 3: i've been ahead of you.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You are actually only two points behind sam for this
- 2:49Speaker 1: game week weren't you got 93.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Yeah, 93, similar story in a way with the defence
- 2:53Speaker 4: being very strong. I got 31 points between Verbriggel in
- 2:57Speaker 4: goal and Konca, Calafiori. I did the Konca transfer that
- 3:00Speaker 4: I mentioned on the last show. Guardiola with 11, with
- 3:02Speaker 4: an assist that should have never been an assist because
- 3:04Speaker 4: it should have never been a goal for Man City.
- 3:05Speaker 4: But anyway, I take those points. The midfield, the difference
- 3:09Speaker 4: is Pascal Gross with 17. Incredible performance. And I thought
- 3:12Speaker 4: he would do well and Brighton would do well in
- 3:14Speaker 4: that game, just not. that well I went for Haaland
- 3:17Speaker 4: captain because you two I was fuming against you when
- 3:20Speaker 4: I saw that you two didn't captain Haaland you said
- 3:23Speaker 4: on the last show you said no no no you
- 3:26Speaker 4: can't go against Haaland against United that's what you said
- 3:28Speaker 4: no no no.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Do you not remember I went right I'm sorry I've
- 3:31Speaker 1: got really animated there and they're going to have a
- 3:32Speaker 1: great job in the edit I literally went well we
- 3:36Speaker 1: captain a Chelsea player don't we and you both looked
- 3:38Speaker 1: at me like I was an absolute idiot so if
- 3:40Speaker 1: there's anyone that you want to have a go at
- 3:41Speaker 1: here have a go at Sam because she did the
- 3:43Speaker 1: U-turn I didn't I did what I said I was
- 3:45Speaker 1: going to do Well.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I don't know if it was a U-turn. I couldn't
- 3:47Speaker 3: decide between the two. So I was on Harlan, actually,
- 3:50Speaker 3: and to be fair, Jules, you are right in many ways.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I was on Harlan all the way up until, well,
- 3:58Speaker 3: Friday night. And then I got up on Saturday morning
- 4:02Speaker 3: and thought, hmm. do I want to go against Chelsea?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Should I go against Chelsea? Is it a good opportunity
- 4:09Speaker 3: for a differential captain? And I was watching my son
- 4:11Speaker 3: football training and I was like, do you know what?
- 4:13Speaker 3: I'll go with a bit of a differential captain. And
- 4:15Speaker 3: in the end it was differential, but he was still
- 4:17Speaker 3: a very popular second captain. I think there were over
- 4:20Speaker 3: 2 million managers that did captain in Jal Pedro. So,
- 4:24Speaker 3: but I was close. I was very close between going
- 4:26Speaker 3: for Harlem.
- 4:27Speaker 2: To be fair, you can.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Retract that from me as well, because, I said all
- 4:30Speaker 1: along I was going to do Chelsea. I went from
- 4:32Speaker 1: Rodgers to Pedro. That's the only thing I did. I
- 4:34Speaker 1: did flit over Haaland because you two tried to persuade
- 4:37Speaker 1: me that there was a good case. And I was like,
- 4:39Speaker 1: oh no.
- 4:40Speaker 4: And there was. Together, let's blame Sam anyway. And in
- 4:45Speaker 4: the end, it was three points. So six, I know
- 4:46Speaker 4: six in the end. But it could have been worse
- 4:50Speaker 4: if that Haaland goal had not been allowed, obviously. And
- 4:53Speaker 4: then I did, so Rodgers, I brought Rodgers in, eight points, great,
- 4:56Speaker 4: as I mentioned. And then Wissar came in to replace
- 5:00Speaker 4: Broby and I thought it would be a tough game
- 5:01Speaker 4: for Newcastle away at least, but I didn't think they
- 5:03Speaker 4: would be that bad and that the gap between the
- 5:05Speaker 4: two would be that big.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I still like the Wissar pick in a way, but
- 5:10Speaker 2: it was just disappointing.
- 5:11Speaker 4: But still, 93 points, it was really good.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah, my game week was 79 points, by the way,
- 5:17Speaker 1: which in any other week I would have been quite
- 5:18Speaker 1: happy with. But I didn't really expect Brighton to be
- 5:22Speaker 1: the downfall. Like, literally, it kind of was like for you, Jules,
- 5:27Speaker 1: as soon as you had... Because you didn't have a
- 5:28Speaker 1: great Saturday, and Sunday was where you got so many
- 5:30Speaker 1: of your points from, wasn't it, really? Yeah, exactly. And, yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Pascal Gross, because I had Kinskin, I thought, oh, I've
- 5:36Speaker 1: done all right there over the Brooklyn Owners. I've played
- 5:39Speaker 1: the correct goalkeeper compared to what I thought you had, Sam.
- 5:42Speaker 1: But then, yeah, obviously... That just killed me. My defence,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I've got Aja from Brentford, who has been good for
- 5:48Speaker 1: me so far this season. But yeah, just one point.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The same midfield as you, Sam. Pretty disappointed other than Rodgers.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And I mean, I was grateful for Calvert-Lewin's 10 points,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but it kind of wasn't really enough. And it feels
- 6:00Speaker 1: really weird to be disappointed and get a red arrow
- 6:03Speaker 1: on 79 points as well. My first red of the season.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So yeah, really frustrating. Also, I got the captaincy, right?
- 6:11Speaker 1: My two transfers both returned, so I think that's why
- 6:14Speaker 1: I was so frustrated. It just so happened that the
- 6:17Speaker 1: odd player, the odd thing, made a big difference. Had
- 6:19Speaker 1: I had a Pascal Gross, I'd have been up there
- 6:20Speaker 1: with you two. But I didn't, so once again, I'm chasing.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Let's dissect the game week as a whole a little
- 6:27Speaker 1: bit more. Chelsea, obviously a disappointing result for them against Hull, really,
- 6:33Speaker 1: in the end. But I think it was probably most
- 6:36Speaker 1: disappointing for those that triple-captained Cole Palmer, over 90,000 managers
- 6:41Speaker 1: did that. I know he got, was it five? He
- 6:43Speaker 1: got five points in the end, didn't he, Palmer? It's
- 6:47Speaker 1: a similar debate to what we had last week, isn't it,
- 6:49Speaker 1: with Haaland, like in terms of, were we happy with Haaland?
- 6:52Speaker 1: All of a sudden, I'm happier that I triple-captained Haaland
- 6:54Speaker 1: than Palmer.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Yeah, and to be fair, I thought in a game
- 6:59Speaker 4: where Hull City played really well and they actually beat
- 7:02Speaker 4: Chelsea in terms of expected goals, even with the ball,
- 7:06Speaker 4: I thought Chelsea were at times a little bit flat
- 7:08Speaker 4: as the assist for Koopama, but for the rest, 0.13 xG.
- 7:12Speaker 4: From him against a team like that, at the bridge
- 7:15Speaker 4: as well, I thought was a bit disappointing. Even his
- 7:17Speaker 4: expected assist is 0.25, which is again, not great for
- 7:21Speaker 4: a player of his calibre, of his price and of
- 7:24Speaker 4: his talent, really. So I think people could be disappointed.
- 7:28Speaker 4: If you went for him instead of Rodgers, for example,
- 7:30Speaker 4: and if you captained him or triple captained him, yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 4: I think you could feel a little bit let down.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I mean, I'm quite happy that I went for Rodgers.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I hovered over doing Bruno to Palmer at the last minute, Sam,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but I'm trying not to do those transfers. Alas, it
- 7:44Speaker 1: would have got me, what, three more points? But, I mean,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I'm glad I didn't. I'm happy with, well, I would
- 7:50Speaker 1: say I'm happy with my two Chelsea players, but there
- 7:52Speaker 1: could be a problem with our Chelsea forward, which we'll
- 7:55Speaker 1: come on to. But, I mean, we can probably even
- 7:57Speaker 1: address it now, really, can't we? Because we thought a
- 8:00Speaker 1: few hours ago, we were recording this on Wednesday night,
- 8:01Speaker 1: by the way, if you are listening to this, probably, what,
- 8:03Speaker 1: six hours ago, I can't remember what time the news broke,
- 8:06Speaker 1: we were probably happy having Rodgers and Pedro. And all
- 8:09Speaker 1: of a sudden now there's news that potentially Pedro sounds
- 8:12Speaker 1: like he's not going to go away on international duty,
- 8:15Speaker 1: which surely makes him a doubt for this weekend.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 3: And it's a bit of a worry now that, isn't it?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Because obviously most of us, all of us three, but
- 8:23Speaker 3: most of the game have got Jao Pedro now. And
- 8:26Speaker 3: most people have had him for quite a long time
- 8:28Speaker 3: as well. So you've got value in him. So you're
- 8:30Speaker 3: sitting there looking at that and thinking, well, Ideally, you'd
- 8:34Speaker 3: like to use that forward slot maybe to get somebody
- 8:38Speaker 3: that's going to play this week to maybe take advantage
- 8:40Speaker 3: of the fixtures that we have coming up this week,
- 8:42Speaker 3: maybe an Igor Jesus or somebody like that with a
- 8:45Speaker 3: nice fixture. However, if you've got value in Jao Pedro,
- 8:51Speaker 3: obviously if you sell him and then try and bring
- 8:52Speaker 3: him back, he's going to cost you more money. And
- 8:55Speaker 3: we don't really know the extent of Jao Pedro's issues
- 8:58Speaker 3: right now. All we know is that he's not going
- 8:59Speaker 3: to go away on international duty, but... But if he's
- 9:02Speaker 3: going to be straight back after the international break and
- 9:05Speaker 3: available for Chelsea again, then, and given it's a very
- 9:07Speaker 3: long break, you would hope, I would hope that we
- 9:09Speaker 3: would see him again afterwards fairly quickly. Then maybe just
- 9:13Speaker 3: sticking him on the bench is the right thing to do.
- 9:15Speaker 3: But it definitely now feels like I'm not invested heavily
- 9:19Speaker 3: enough in Chelsea again because I didn't feel invested enough
- 9:22Speaker 3: with just Jal Pedro. So I added Rodgers to him
- 9:24Speaker 3: and now I'm back to, it feels like I might
- 9:26Speaker 3: just have one again this week.
- 9:27Speaker 1: But could that not affect their attack, Jules, in general,
- 9:30Speaker 1: not having Pedro?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it would.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That's the other thing that concerns me as a Rodgers owner,
- 9:34Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. Danny Welbeck, if.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Joe Pedro cannot play this weekend against Brentford away, then
- 9:42Speaker 4: you would expect Welbeck, who did well the other day
- 9:45Speaker 4: in the League Cup, for example, against Leeds, who is
- 9:47Speaker 4: a really good player. We saw that last season. He
- 9:48Speaker 4: was a bit of a differential for a lot of us.
- 9:51Speaker 4: But he's a different type of player than Joe Pedro is, obviously,
- 9:54Speaker 4: and certainly not as good and obviously much older. So
- 9:58Speaker 4: that would have an impact on Rodgers potentially. and on
- 10:00Speaker 4: Palmer as well and on the kind of attacking side
- 10:03Speaker 4: of Chelsea's game. Joao Pedro is only a yellow flag
- 10:07Speaker 4: for now in the game, but as we know, things
- 10:10Speaker 4: might evolve and we might find out a bit later
- 10:12Speaker 4: that actually it's more than that and he would miss
- 10:15Speaker 4: the game at the weekend. So, Again, let's keep an
- 10:18Speaker 4: eye on what Xabi Alonso says, but it doesn't look good.
- 10:21Speaker 2: To be fair.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll have to see. I presume Enzo Maresca's press
- 10:23Speaker 1: conference is normally a Friday, isn't it, I think. So
- 10:26Speaker 1: we'll have to kind of listen out for what he says.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Although we won't be bothered what Enzo Maresca says about him.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Oh, gosh.
- 10:31Speaker 3: We will care what Xabi Alonso says.
- 10:32Speaker 4: You can listen to the Man City News if you
- 10:35Speaker 4: want with Enzo Maresca.
- 10:36Speaker 3: He won't have a clue.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Rewind, rewind. Just me living back in...
- 10:43Speaker 1: Was it last season he was manager there? Who knows?
- 10:45Speaker 2: He was sacked in January.
- 10:47Speaker 1: He left around Christmas last year, didn't he? Maybe listen
- 10:52Speaker 1: to Alonso. I don't think Maresca will care what's going
- 10:54Speaker 1: on with Ra Pedro in the nicest possible way. So yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: a conundrum for us. I mean, I think I'll probably
- 10:59Speaker 1: bench him, but definitely worth hearing what the news is
- 11:02Speaker 1: and the extent of that injury. What a blow for
- 11:04Speaker 1: him as well, though, because he's had a brilliant start
- 11:06Speaker 1: to the season. Just a quick word on Hull, Sam,
- 11:10Speaker 1: before we move on as well, because their brilliant start
- 11:13Speaker 1: continues no clean sheet but they actually beat Chelsea for
- 11:16Speaker 1: xg this week which was perhaps a little bit of
- 11:18Speaker 1: a surprise and I know there's been a lot of
- 11:19Speaker 1: a focus going into the last game week in terms
- 11:22Speaker 1: of they hadn't conceded but they've got a high expected
- 11:25Speaker 1: goals conceded.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah absolutely so I think we were all looking at
- 11:29Speaker 3: it and thinking well they should have conceded five point
- 11:32Speaker 3: I think it was 5.05 heading into the game week
- 11:34Speaker 3: that they should have already conceded in the opening three
- 11:36Speaker 3: matches and then didn't um So we were all looking
- 11:39Speaker 3: at it thinking, well, maybe the goal had led a
- 11:43Speaker 3: charmed life. But then they had been like that in
- 11:46Speaker 3: the championship last season as well. Very high XGC numbers,
- 11:48Speaker 3: but yet still managed to get themselves promoted. So it
- 11:51Speaker 3: does seem like it's part of their style of play.
- 11:53Speaker 3: But this week, yeah, the narrative shifted and it was
- 11:57Speaker 3: more about their expected goals. They were very very good
- 12:00Speaker 3: I was actually very impressed by Hull in this one
- 12:03Speaker 3: and Bellumi looking really good and a really nice cheap
- 12:06Speaker 3: option if you want to go for one of the
- 12:07Speaker 3: attackers and I think it's interesting now because over the
- 12:10Speaker 3: last few weeks with the exception of Ollie McBurnie who
- 12:12Speaker 3: we kind of spoke about a little bit in pre-season
- 12:15Speaker 3: the whole focus since the season started has been on
- 12:17Speaker 3: the the defence and whether we should be investing in
- 12:20Speaker 3: the whole defence whereas now I think having seen them
- 12:22Speaker 3: play against Chelsea and having seen their attacking threat that
- 12:26Speaker 3: they brought to that game, now there's an opportunity to
- 12:28Speaker 3: look at those whole attacking players because they are super
- 12:32Speaker 3: cheap as well. And again, at a time when we're
- 12:35Speaker 3: still looking at how we invest in premium assets and
- 12:37Speaker 3: the most expensive players in the game are suddenly becoming
- 12:41Speaker 3: really interesting to us, having a whole player in there
- 12:44Speaker 3: and an attacking one might just help you out.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Okay. Mentioned one of the other headlines was, Brighton, Jules,
- 12:50Speaker 1: you benefited from Pascal Gross being the top scoring player
- 12:53Speaker 1: of the entire game week with 17 points. He was
- 12:57Speaker 1: magnificent tonight against Manchester United as well in their comeback
- 13:00Speaker 1: winning the Cup. Where does that leave us though with Brighton?
- 13:03Speaker 1: Because I want to invest, but when you look at
- 13:05Speaker 1: their next fixture, it makes you go, is now the
- 13:08Speaker 1: time with Arsenal next?
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:12Speaker 4: They've got Arsenal next, then they will go away to Sunderland,
- 13:15Speaker 4: I think, home to Palace and then it's Liverpool and
- 13:17Speaker 4: City back to back. So it's tough, although I think
- 13:22Speaker 4: if you wanted to invest defensively, so Verbruggen, Vuskovic, for example,
- 13:27Speaker 4: those kind of defenders and goalkeeper, Boscagli maybe, then I
- 13:32Speaker 4: think that might be tricky because we've been saying since
- 13:33Speaker 4: the start of the season, they're very fun to watch
- 13:35Speaker 4: and they're very entertaining and they go forward and they
- 13:37Speaker 4: attack really well, as we saw again, Kez, as you mentioned,
- 13:40Speaker 4: in the 3-2 win in the Carabao Cup tonight.
- 13:42Speaker 2: But also in.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Pretty much every single game, They've played so far in
- 13:46Speaker 4: the league that 4-3 defeat at Chelsea, for example, being
- 13:48Speaker 4: another example. So they will score goals and they will
- 13:51Speaker 4: create chances. They will also concede goals and they will
- 13:53Speaker 4: concede chances. But if you wanted Gross or Costolas or
- 13:58Speaker 4: De Kuyper or Gomez or those kind of guys, Ruta,
- 14:02Speaker 4: go for it because I think they will get you points. Defensively,
- 14:06Speaker 4: I'm not too convinced yet by those players bringing you
- 14:10Speaker 4: points in those kind of games. However, attacking-wise, they will
- 14:13Speaker 4: keep attacking whoever they play against. That's not going to change.
- 14:16Speaker 4: So I don't think it's less of an issue if
- 14:18Speaker 4: you want to invest in those kind of attacking assets,
- 14:22Speaker 4: in a way, from Brighton.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But defensively, maybe it's not the right time.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Would it just be gross that you would go for Jules?
- 14:29Speaker 1: Is he just a standout? Well, he is, isn't he?
- 14:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he is. Yeah, I think Costulas, who
- 14:35Speaker 4: scored back-to-back goals, won in the league at the weekend
- 14:38Speaker 4: and then obviously in midweek against United, he took the
- 14:40Speaker 4: goal at the weekend really, really well. He was also
- 14:44Speaker 4: involved in the De Kuyper winning goal for Brighton against
- 14:46Speaker 4: United too. So Costulas in great form, quite cheap, low ownership,
- 14:51Speaker 4: I think is a smart idea for your third slot
- 14:55Speaker 4: as a forward, for example. I think the keeper who's
- 14:57Speaker 4: heavily owned now, I think he's over 23%.
- 14:59Speaker 3: And about to rise in price again.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yes, again.
- 15:02Speaker 4: So go for him now if you want to, if
- 15:04Speaker 4: he hasn't gone up in price yet. But I think
- 15:07Speaker 4: he's a great player to have, although not a differential.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And I think.
- 15:11Speaker 4: They're probably with Verbruggen if you're looking for a keeper.
- 15:14Speaker 4: But again, I would stay away from the defenders and
- 15:16Speaker 4: the keepers for now in that schedule that we just
- 15:19Speaker 4: told you. But for the attacking side, I think those
- 15:22Speaker 4: three are the main targets for me.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Sam, are you as against the defence as Jules is?
- 15:29Speaker 3: No, no, I don't think so. Because I think, you know, Calper, obviously,
- 15:34Speaker 3: he's basically not a defender at the moment. Um, yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 3: I don't, I don't, I don't mind Vescovich. There's, there's
- 15:40Speaker 3: attacking threat from him, particularly from set pieces. Plus you
- 15:43Speaker 3: have the defensive contribution, um, potential from, from him as well.
- 15:47Speaker 3: So I don't mind him. And as a, the Bruggen owner,
- 15:51Speaker 3: like I actually don't mind him either. If you've got
- 15:53Speaker 3: him in a rotating pair with Kinski, the pair of
- 15:55Speaker 3: them rotate really nicely over the next few weeks. So,
- 15:57Speaker 3: It does mean that I can play Kinski this week
- 16:00Speaker 3: against Aston Villa rather than playing Verbruggen against Arsenal. But
- 16:04Speaker 3: in the coming weeks, there will be times when I'll
- 16:06Speaker 3: flip that and play the opposite. So I'm not as
- 16:09Speaker 3: opposed to it. I do think De Kalper is a
- 16:11Speaker 3: bit of a no-brainer when it comes to the defence
- 16:15Speaker 3: because he's still that little bit cheaper and he's basically
- 16:18Speaker 3: playing as an attacker. But if you want to go
- 16:20Speaker 3: different with the Vuskovic, I don't mind that at all.
- 16:23Speaker 1: In terms of the defence and defenders elsewhere, perhaps the
- 16:26Speaker 1: reason as well, Jules, you wouldn't invest in the Brighton
- 16:27Speaker 1: defence is because there is so much good value and
- 16:30Speaker 1: so many points elsewhere. Looking at the last game week,
- 16:33Speaker 1: we've got something I didn't think I'd be saying, Sam
- 16:36Speaker 1: Spurs with back-to-back clean sheets. Maybe the defence is the
- 16:39Speaker 1: way to go there. Manchester City, Jules, you've benefited from
- 16:42Speaker 1: Guardiola's points. Sam, you had Leif Davis's 14 points, top-scoring defender.
- 16:48Speaker 1: But like even Lewis Dunk, by the way, water goal
- 16:50Speaker 1: for him. And double Arsenal clean sheet was also the
- 16:54Speaker 1: way to go. So actually, Sam, there's some really nice
- 16:57Speaker 1: options in defence, isn't there? And that's where it looks
- 16:59Speaker 1: like a lot of the points at the moment are
- 17:01Speaker 1: going to come from.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think it's interesting, isn't it? Because at
- 17:05Speaker 3: the beginning of the season, we had long conversations about
- 17:07Speaker 3: the defenders and did we need to spend the money
- 17:09Speaker 3: on Gabriel? Should we spend more money on O'Reilly or
- 17:14Speaker 3: the more expensive Manchester City defenders? Did we need to
- 17:19Speaker 3: go premium with all of these options? But actually, the
- 17:26Speaker 3: The cheaper ones are the ones that actually seem to
- 17:28Speaker 3: be really impressive. So we've obviously got the Brighton defence
- 17:32Speaker 3: that are doing well. We don't have to pay quite
- 17:34Speaker 3: such a premium for the Spurs defence either. We've got...
- 17:37Speaker 3: van hecht took a price drop so he's at 4.9
- 17:40Speaker 3: now and when you look at the arsenal defense we've
- 17:42Speaker 3: got some really interesting numbers there that mean that actually
- 17:46Speaker 3: i don't think you need to spend the money on
- 17:49Speaker 3: gabrielle like over the if you look at minutes per
- 17:52Speaker 3: start because it's not fair to compare them directly because
- 17:54Speaker 3: obviously some of them have played more game time than
- 17:55Speaker 3: others so if you look at the amount of points
- 17:57Speaker 3: that they're getting per start You've got Calafuri, who's on
- 18:00Speaker 3: seven at the moment, Gabriel on six, White's not far
- 18:03Speaker 3: behind on 5.3, and then Konza at five. But I
- 18:05Speaker 3: would expect Konza to grow as he gets more game time.
- 18:08Speaker 3: And then Rea trumping them all on 7.3 points per start.
- 18:12Speaker 3: So I think it's the fact that there's loads of
- 18:15Speaker 3: options and the fact that those options don't have to
- 18:18Speaker 3: cost you loads of money. I mean, every week, and
- 18:21Speaker 3: I don't know about you, Kels, but every week I'm
- 18:22Speaker 3: looking at my defenders and I'm thinking... I don't really,
- 18:26Speaker 3: like Konza this week, I really didn't want to bench Konza.
- 18:29Speaker 3: But I've got this kind of benching headaches with the
- 18:31Speaker 3: defence because I've got so many good ones and there's
- 18:35Speaker 3: so many in the league that I still don't have
- 18:37Speaker 3: that I think probably I should be invested in.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I quite love my defence, but actually I'm on
- 18:42Speaker 1: the wrong ones. Like I was thinking, gosh, why did
- 18:44Speaker 1: I go for Diop over Leif Davis? Maybe I did
- 18:46Speaker 1: that and just protest against you because you loved him
- 18:48Speaker 1: so much. I don't know. And even Adja at Brentford
- 18:52Speaker 1: was brilliant, but I knew his fixtures weren't. were kind
- 18:55Speaker 1: of going to change and I knew I wasn't going
- 18:56Speaker 1: to want to play him. Rodon's been a big problem
- 18:58Speaker 1: for me because he was just going to be kind
- 19:00Speaker 1: of set and forget for the first few weeks. Rodon's
- 19:02Speaker 1: become Konza. I'm happy to have Konza and Kalafiore. And
- 19:05Speaker 1: the worst, I think one of the worst things I've
- 19:07Speaker 1: ever made in FPL before a deadline, ahead of the
- 19:09Speaker 1: game week one deadline, was going from Luke Shaw away.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I moved Luke Shaw on. to be able to get
- 19:18Speaker 1: Maguire and I sacrificed Guardiola and now I wish I
- 19:20Speaker 1: had Guardiola because there is so much value in the
- 19:23Speaker 1: defence and I'm kind of just on the wrong ones.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You're at the moment on the right ones because even
- 19:27Speaker 1: Van Hecht looks brilliant value and could have had more
- 19:30Speaker 1: points at the weekend.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:32Speaker 3: And I think that's the thing, isn't it? But then
- 19:33Speaker 3: I'm looking at the fixture ticker and I'm thinking like
- 19:36Speaker 3: Neko Williams looks like he's going to be a really
- 19:38Speaker 3: great option over the coming weeks.
- 19:39Speaker 1: It's about jumping off at the right point, isn't it? Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 19:44Speaker 3: And, and it's hard to do when the players have
- 19:46Speaker 3: been returning well, like I couldn't imagine now on the
- 19:48Speaker 3: back of two really good returns for Van Hecke and
- 19:51Speaker 3: a really good return from Leif Davis. In my head,
- 19:53Speaker 3: it makes no sense to sell either of those two
- 19:55Speaker 3: right now, particularly Van you know, after what's happened over
- 19:58Speaker 3: the last couple of weeks. But I am looking at,
- 20:01Speaker 3: I've got Bobby Thomas in that final spot and Coventry,
- 20:03Speaker 3: I probably have made a mistake with him. He's probably
- 20:06Speaker 3: the one, not for any fault of his own, because
- 20:08Speaker 3: actually we have been seeing defensive contribution points from him,
- 20:11Speaker 3: which is.
- 20:11Speaker 1: And you got the clean sheet when Coventry didn't get
- 20:13Speaker 1: one the other week. Yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 3: So yes, exactly. So, you know, there has been good
- 20:18Speaker 3: returns from him, but Coventry of the newly promoted sides
- 20:21Speaker 3: look the least likely to keep clean sheets at the moment.
- 20:24Speaker 3: So shifting across to one of the other 4.0s or
- 20:27Speaker 3: even taking a little bit of money and going up
- 20:29Speaker 3: to somebody like a Williams. The problem is I just
- 20:32Speaker 3: feel like I'm giving myself more benching headaches because if
- 20:34Speaker 3: I buy five defenders that I want to start every week,
- 20:37Speaker 3: I've only got one bench boost to play in this
- 20:39Speaker 3: part of the season. So benching headaches feel like they're
- 20:44Speaker 3: to come and I also feel like I probably need
- 20:47Speaker 3: to prioritise doing something about my midfield because that is
- 20:50Speaker 3: where my points are lacking at the minute.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Is double Arsenal defence the way to go now Jules
- 20:55Speaker 1: because like Sam didn't play Konza and Califiori I played
- 20:58Speaker 1: both I didn't feel that comfortable where at Sunderland but
- 21:00Speaker 1: then you watch it and they're still so solid at
- 21:03Speaker 1: the back.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Yeah I think you're right I'm like you Kels I
- 21:06Speaker 4: don't really like it because obviously it's One goal, gone.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. And you get it.
- 21:14Speaker 4: But in that case, I think Kansa is too cheap
- 21:16Speaker 4: not to have him. And then Calafiori has been so
- 21:19Speaker 4: good that until he's not as good as he's been
- 21:22Speaker 4: so far, then maybe it's time to get rid of
- 21:26Speaker 4: him and then invest that money in somebody else and
- 21:28Speaker 4: we don't have to double up. I've seen people with
- 21:30Speaker 4: Ryan Gould as well.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I think Ian might have the three of them.
- 21:33Speaker 1: That was my next question. Yeah, because Ian actually put
- 21:35Speaker 1: in our WhatsApp, didn't he, that He's never been so
- 21:37Speaker 1: happy to see a penalty saved. He's saved a triple
- 21:40Speaker 1: clean sheet. And I was like, are you mad? The
- 21:43Speaker 1: nerves that that must cause during a game. But Reyes also,
- 21:46Speaker 1: is he the best goalkeeper in the game right now?
- 21:48Speaker 1: I know he's more expensive, but 14 points he got
- 21:51Speaker 1: this week.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Which is his highest tally ever.
- 21:55Speaker 3: In a single game week, yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Yeah, incredible.
- 21:57Speaker 4: So yeah, I think there's a case to make for
- 21:59Speaker 4: Reyes to be a must-have now. And we have to
- 22:02Speaker 4: go and get him. even if he's expensive, the most
- 22:05Speaker 4: in the keeper department, and then get rid of Calafiori,
- 22:10Speaker 4: let's say, to make up for that money for Raya
- 22:12Speaker 4: and keeping Konca, who's the cheapest by far. But it's
- 22:16Speaker 4: really difficult because, as Sam said, there's also a case
- 22:19Speaker 4: for the people who want Gabriel, who might come up
- 22:22Speaker 4: with the odd goal, although.
- 22:23Speaker 2: They are less dependent on set-pieces than they were last season.
- 22:27Speaker 4: But that doesn't say that they're not going to be
- 22:29Speaker 4: good again on set pieces with.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Gabriel very soon.
- 22:31Speaker 4: So it's very tricky between all four of them which
- 22:34Speaker 4: ones to pick.
- 22:35Speaker 1: This is the longest review of a game week ever,
- 22:38Speaker 1: but it feels like it was one of those game
- 22:39Speaker 1: weeks where there were so many talking points and so
- 22:42Speaker 1: many things for us to think about. Just on the midfield,
- 22:46Speaker 1: I know we've already spoke about the Chelsea midfield and
- 22:48Speaker 1: Brighton briefly, but a couple of names to put to
- 22:51Speaker 1: you in a similar price bracket and probably contrasting form, really.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Liverpool.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Their attack blanking against Fulham. Sam, we have been so
- 23:00Speaker 1: kind of obsessed, it feels like, with Sbozlai. At the
- 23:03Speaker 1: beginning of the season, it was you had to have
- 23:05Speaker 1: one of Sbozlai or Wurz. And I know Sbozlai has
- 23:07Speaker 1: ticked over. And by the way, what a goal from
- 23:09Speaker 1: him in the EFL Cup in midweek. But it was frustrating,
- 23:14Speaker 1: wasn't it? You've got a Liverpool attacker at home against
- 23:16Speaker 1: a team that haven't won so far in the league
- 23:18Speaker 1: and you expect a bit more.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Absolutely. And, you know, he was top four big chances
- 23:25Speaker 3: created in this game week with three. So maybe we
- 23:29Speaker 3: were a bit unlucky as the Bosley owners not to
- 23:31Speaker 3: get something out of him because I would have expected
- 23:33Speaker 3: that Liverpool would have converted one of three big chances
- 23:36Speaker 3: against a Fulham side that have actually been not great
- 23:39Speaker 3: defensively so far this season, but they were in this one.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And then you had Gatpo, who for most of last
- 23:44Speaker 3: week was the most transferred in player, who then didn't
- 23:48Speaker 3: start in this one because of the injury that kept
- 23:49Speaker 3: him out of the Champions League match. So yeah, a
- 23:52Speaker 3: bit disappointing. I still think that Sabozlai is a good pick.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I still think he's a hold. Yes, the fixture's tough
- 24:00Speaker 3: enough for Liverpool. Obviously, they've got Bournemouth away. Before then,
- 24:02Speaker 3: they go into some difficult ones. So when you look
- 24:04Speaker 3: at the fixture ticker over the next six weeks, Liverpool
- 24:08Speaker 3: sit very low down. And mostly that's because they have
- 24:14Speaker 3: games in there against Arsenal and they have games in
- 24:17Speaker 3: there against Manchester City and there's a game in there
- 24:20Speaker 3: against Brentford. So it's not great. And I think they're
- 24:23Speaker 3: 19th on the ticker over the next six weeks. So
- 24:26Speaker 3: it's difficult, but I think we think he's on penalties.
- 24:30Speaker 3: He is on set pieces. I think he's still a
- 24:33Speaker 3: hold for me. Jules, you've not owned him and I
- 24:36Speaker 3: can see from your face you're not bothered.
- 24:39Speaker 2: No, it's not that.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I'm delighted when he blanks, to be fair. I won't
- 24:42Speaker 4: lie because he's still heavily owned. I find Liverpool difficult.
- 24:47Speaker 4: I just can't work them out. I don't know if
- 24:49Speaker 4: they will be very good very soon. I don't know
- 24:51Speaker 4: if it will take a bit of time, especially for
- 24:53Speaker 4: that midfield to work out. We see Isak being great
- 24:56Speaker 4: one day and then not so good the next game.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Barcola is still finding his feet.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I'm not sure about Munoz or Rio. This is the
- 25:03Speaker 4: problem I have, really. Xhaka is great, but they still
- 25:06Speaker 4: concede goals and chances. Okay, not against Fulham, but before that.
- 25:11Speaker 4: So I really don't know what to think about them.
- 25:13Speaker 2: And so because I'm not sure, for now, I prefer
- 25:16Speaker 2: staying out of it. No, I'm just saying, it's great.
- 25:19Speaker 2: A lot of people will really share my view, Kez.
- 25:22Speaker 1: No, no, but I do... all jokes aside I do
- 25:24Speaker 1: take your point and that was maybe more the question
- 25:26Speaker 1: that I was actually meaning to put to you in
- 25:28Speaker 1: terms of you don't have them and I still feel
- 25:31Speaker 1: like we're four game weeks in and we don't really
- 25:33Speaker 1: know what Liverpool are like so do we desperately need
- 25:37Speaker 1: their players and the answer is probably no and he's
- 25:39Speaker 1: now going to go and score three this weekend now
- 25:41Speaker 1: I've said that to prove him to prove me wrong
- 25:43Speaker 1: which I hope he does of course has known it
- 25:44Speaker 1: but yeah I guess that's you've probably summed up where
- 25:47Speaker 1: we're at with Liverpool at the moment and I mentioned
- 25:49Speaker 1: another midfielder I just wanted to mention Morgan Gibbs-White because
- 25:52Speaker 1: he's got arguably one of the best fixtures this week
- 25:55Speaker 1: as well. He returned last week and some of his stats, Sam,
- 25:58Speaker 1: were really good. He is quite expensive and Forrest haven't
- 26:02Speaker 1: had the best start to the season, but is he
- 26:03Speaker 1: someone we should be considering? He's very high on my
- 26:07Speaker 1: wishlist of players for this week because it's not really
- 26:10Speaker 1: just about this week. Yes, it's a good fixture this week,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but actually the fixtures remain nice for a while for Forrest. Obviously,
- 26:17Speaker 1: it's Coventry, but then they've got Palace. Now, there's a
- 26:19Speaker 1: game in there against Arsenal, which skews where they sit
- 26:22Speaker 1: on the fixture ticker, But then after that, they've got
- 26:24Speaker 1: Ipswich and Brentford. So I think four of the next
- 26:26Speaker 1: five actually look really nice. And I mentioned Sir Bosley
- 26:29Speaker 1: being top for big chances created with three. Well, Morgan
- 26:33Speaker 1: Gibbs-White also had three as well. He was top for
- 26:36Speaker 1: expected assists across the game week with 0.91. So again,
- 26:39Speaker 1: very unlucky not to get something there. And actually ranked
- 26:42Speaker 1: really highly on the bonus BPS system. So he, because
- 26:46Speaker 1: of all of the great stuff he does, that's not
- 26:48Speaker 1: necessarily an attacking threat, he was top. for baseline bps
- 26:52Speaker 1: across the game we just because he's so involved in
- 26:54Speaker 1: everything that that forest are doing so i don't have
- 26:58Speaker 1: a forest player in my team at the moment and
- 27:00Speaker 1: morgan gibbs white feels like the right one to get
- 27:04Speaker 1: there's a couple of others actually that i like as
- 27:06Speaker 1: well but morgan gives white is very high on the
- 27:09Speaker 1: on the agenda of players to go with but selling
- 27:13Speaker 1: the likes of sabozlai to get him i don't know
- 27:16Speaker 1: where how i feel about that right now okay we
- 27:21Speaker 1: will move on from the longest roundup ever. Jules, is
- 27:23Speaker 1: there anything that we haven't mentioned from the midweek, whether
- 27:27Speaker 1: it's cup, European action or any talking points that kind
- 27:29Speaker 1: of we need to consider when selecting our team this weekend?
- 27:34Speaker 4: No, I mean, quickly, there was a lot of rotation,
- 27:36Speaker 4: especially for the teams that were in the Carver Cup.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Even the big teams, Arsenal played, you know, a big team,
- 27:40Speaker 4: United had a lot of changes, Brighton as well. We
- 27:44Speaker 4: saw Liverpool and Spurs with a lot of changes too.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Some teams made 10 changes, 8 changes, 7 changes. So,
- 27:50Speaker 4: A lot of that. Sorry, Sam, but big win for Liverpool.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Gagpo scoring. So, Bozlai with a wonder goal. And as
- 27:56Speaker 4: we mentioned, McAllister as well. For Spurs, they created a lot. 2.3
- 28:01Speaker 4: xG in that game away at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
- 28:03Speaker 4: But then only Gallagher and that goal and another.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Defeat to show for. Fulham won a football game.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Well done to them and Arvalo Arvaloa. With Palacios scoring
- 28:13Speaker 4: and assisting. Really good in that 3-2 win against West Ham.
- 28:16Speaker 4: In Europe, Sunderland were back after 25 years or something.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Enzo Le Fay, who missed a penalty against Arsenal last weekend,
- 28:21Speaker 4: scored the winning goal on a penalty against AZ Alkmaar.
- 28:24Speaker 2: That was good.
- 28:24Speaker 4: We mentioned Brighton beating United. And there's more teams like
- 28:27Speaker 4: City playing tomorrow, like the rest of the team as
- 28:31Speaker 4: well in the Europa League too.
- 28:32Speaker 2: So more football to be played.
- 28:34Speaker 4: But so far, there were not too many injuries, for example,
- 28:39Speaker 4: of players who were playing in midweek for every team
- 28:41Speaker 4: to think about. Okay.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Just a quick check in then with the FPL pod mini-league.
- 28:46Speaker 1: A reminder, your code is Q0HV1Q. And we've got a
- 28:50Speaker 1: new leader at the summit, Nils Arv Nordberg. I hope
- 28:53Speaker 1: I've said that right. Sorry if I haven't. Was in third,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but he's actually gone top with 103 points. He had
- 28:59Speaker 1: Pascal Gross as well, and also captain Joao Pedro. He
- 29:02Speaker 1: had Rea as well for his, as Jules mentioned, biggest
- 29:05Speaker 1: ever FPL return. But he did bench Sharder's 15 points.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Sharder's probably someone I should have mentioned when we talked
- 29:11Speaker 1: about midfielders. as well um one tara's climbed into second
- 29:15Speaker 1: spot they're eight points behind played their wild card this
- 29:17Speaker 1: week one captain palmer and registered 97 points for game
- 29:21Speaker 1: week four meanwhile barry mcfarlane climbed from 28th to third
- 29:25Speaker 1: he also wild carded and captain palmer registering 103 points
- 29:29Speaker 1: for the week in fact five of the top seven
- 29:31Speaker 1: managers in our league made it into the 100 club
- 29:33Speaker 1: this week so congratulations to them Every week it feels
- 29:37Speaker 1: like at the moment we're having a chip update. And
- 29:39Speaker 1: as it stands, there's not too many chips being played.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I said this to someone last week, Sam, that it
- 29:45Speaker 1: feels like there's been a bit of a trend this year.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Maybe it's content creators. I don't know. Maybe it's just
- 29:50Speaker 1: the people I follow. To play chips early, it feels
- 29:52Speaker 1: like a lot of people have used them very early.
- 29:56Speaker 1: But why do you think maybe there's not as many
- 29:58Speaker 1: in play this week?
- 29:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think a lot of people have gone early.
- 30:01Speaker 3: A lot of the big content creators have. I think
- 30:04Speaker 3: I'm in the minority with only having played one of
- 30:06Speaker 3: them so far. A lot of people going with an
- 30:09Speaker 3: early bench boost, early wildcard, early triple captain strategy. I
- 30:13Speaker 3: think this week we tend to find ahead of an
- 30:15Speaker 3: international break. It's always a bit of a low week
- 30:17Speaker 3: for chips, mostly because people like to play a wildcard
- 30:20Speaker 3: over an international break. And this international break is quite
- 30:23Speaker 3: unique because obviously we are about to go into with
- 30:26Speaker 3: the exception of the world cup when it was in
- 30:27Speaker 3: the middle of the season one of the the longest
- 30:30Speaker 3: international break that we're gonna we're gonna face so i
- 30:33Speaker 3: do think people are kind of being a little bit
- 30:36Speaker 3: tentative this week i also don't necessarily think that there's
- 30:39Speaker 3: an obvious triple captaincy this week in the last few
- 30:42Speaker 3: weeks there has been like there's been you know harlem
- 30:44Speaker 3: with a great fixture or somebody with a Bruno Fernandes
- 30:48Speaker 3: with an excellent fixture, whatever it might be. And I
- 30:51Speaker 3: think a lot of people now, if you haven't already
- 30:53Speaker 3: played your bench boost, it's probably unlikely that you're going
- 30:56Speaker 3: to play ahead of another wild card because you will
- 31:00Speaker 3: probably have somebody on your bench that you think, I
- 31:02Speaker 3: wish that wasn't somebody different. So, yeah, I suspect the
- 31:06Speaker 3: international break is the big driver for the reason why
- 31:11Speaker 3: we're seeing quite low numbers at the minute. Jules, I'm
- 31:14Speaker 3: going to ask the question I know you won't have
- 31:15Speaker 3: an answer to. Any chip strategy planned yet?
- 31:20Speaker 2: I think chip is cheap this week, so not for me.
- 31:22Speaker 1: No, no. I don't mean are you playing it this week.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I mean like... In general, have you thought about when
- 31:27Speaker 1: you might play your first wildcard?
- 31:28Speaker 4: Yeah, international break. Wildcard would be perfect for the international
- 31:31Speaker 4: break because we.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Have the trend now. You know who's in form.
- 31:34Speaker 3: So why are you going to do it next week?
- 31:35Speaker 2: You are. It's in a month. Yeah, but actually it's
- 31:39Speaker 2: in three weeks after that, right?
- 31:40Speaker 3: No, because if you're going to do it, you have
- 31:42Speaker 3: to do it now. Yeah, so that you ride the prices.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Not literally now, after the deadline.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Not right now.
- 31:48Speaker 4: No, not right now.
- 31:49Speaker 3: After the deadline.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Well, on Friday night, yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I won't, you know me, I won't do it on
- 31:54Speaker 2: Friday night.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Oh, come on.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I'll be watching the football on Friday night.
- 31:57Speaker 1: But it makes me so angry that this man is
- 31:59Speaker 1: quite good at FPL when he says things like that.
- 32:01Speaker 3: It's so annoying.
- 32:03Speaker 4: As if you were, as if you, Kelly Summers, were
- 32:05Speaker 4: that organised and then anyway, and you're playing.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's part of the fun of playing a wild card.
- 32:09Speaker 1: The moment the deadline goes, you just, you activate and
- 32:11Speaker 1: you can, I like playing the horizon full.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I need time to process.
- 32:14Speaker 4: I will watch all the international games, all the players
- 32:16Speaker 4: away with international, with the national team.
- 32:18Speaker 1: You can still do that with your wildcard active.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 2: True, but then that doesn't... Right, the price.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Changes, surely.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Try and build your team value.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Come on, Jules, you know this.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's... Yeah, but what if, like, somebody gets injured...
- 32:32Speaker 2: Then you take them out.
- 32:33Speaker 1: You take them out.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough.
- 32:35Speaker 3: That's what the wildcard's for.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Like, I'll find some time to.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Come on, if a player gets injured.
- 32:41Speaker 3: While you're watching Chelsea and Brentford, get it active.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll get it active.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Sorry, but what if a player gets injured... The whole
- 32:48Speaker 1: beauty of the wildcard is you can take it in, out, in, out.
- 32:51Speaker 1: They can do the hokey-cokey throughout the whole break if
- 32:53Speaker 1: you want.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Turn them around if you like.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I like just, you know, I'm OCD with, I need
- 32:58Speaker 4: to see them with a national team and then I
- 33:00Speaker 4: know who I go for.
- 33:01Speaker 2: But that'd be too late.
- 33:01Speaker 1: In an international break, you go into international mode, don't you?
- 33:04Speaker 1: It feels like you kind of park this a little bit.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Jules, I expect you to hit the button and then
- 33:09Speaker 3: every night before you go to bed, check the price
- 33:12Speaker 3: changes and then bring in the players rising to get
- 33:15Speaker 3: your team value up.
- 33:16Speaker 2: You know, I have to make a confession.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Am I going to have to text you every night
- 33:20Speaker 3: at half eleven?
- 33:21Speaker 2: I don't reckon you've ever looked at a price change.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I knew he was going to say that.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Never.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Jules!
- 33:25Speaker 2: I have to be honest.
- 33:26Speaker 3: You've gone down in my estimations.
- 33:27Speaker 2: But you know me. How are you still on this podcast?
- 33:31Speaker 4: I'll pay. Because I'm better than you two, by the way.
- 33:33Speaker 4: I'm top 110k already.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Like 3.5.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Rank doesn't count.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I'm a happy payer. I'm a happy payer.
- 33:40Speaker 4: You know, if you tell me that pair of trainers,
- 33:44Speaker 4: and you know I love my trainers.
- 33:45Speaker 1: No.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Has gone from £ 250 to £ 300.
- 33:46Speaker 4: I'd be very happy to pay for, to buy it
- 33:50Speaker 4: for £ 300.
- 33:50Speaker 2: You're mad.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I wish I had as much money as you in
- 33:54Speaker 1: fantasy and in real life. Maybe that's the problem.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Let's move on, Sam.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And it's not me and Sam. Sam, if you're as
- 33:59Speaker 1: busy as Jules, then you should be rich, to be honest. Sam,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you've got a wild card next week. So I'm going
- 34:05Speaker 1: to try and get us back on the straight and narrow.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I can hear people across the country turning us off, like,
- 34:09Speaker 1: because they just like, why are they just arguing?
- 34:12Speaker 3: So my original plan was to wildcard. However, as I
- 34:15Speaker 3: said to you when we were doing the chat, I
- 34:17Speaker 3: actually like.
- 34:18Speaker 1: She loves her team. She's getting carried away.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Well, to be fair, I've had four good weeks. I
- 34:24Speaker 3: like my team. I'm just a bit like... You've got emotional.
- 34:28Speaker 3: You've got attached. I've got attached to them. I feel
- 34:31Speaker 3: like I want to keep them all now.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I know.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Who knew that I would get attached to them?
- 34:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know.
- 34:37Speaker 3: I've got three free transfers. I feel like I've almost,
- 34:40Speaker 3: or I will have, because I don't think I'm, spoiler
- 34:42Speaker 3: alert for later, I don't think I'm going to make
- 34:43Speaker 3: one this week. So I have three free transfers over
- 34:46Speaker 3: the international break. I don't feel like there's, so normally
- 34:50Speaker 3: I sit and I look at my team and I'll
- 34:51Speaker 3: count the number of players that I would get rid of.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And if it hits five or six, that's when I'll
- 34:55Speaker 3: hit the button. Whereas I actually think I've got two
- 34:59Speaker 3: that I would change. So why not just change them
- 35:03Speaker 3: with the transfers? And then if over the international break,
- 35:07Speaker 3: more things happen then maybe i'll play it later but
- 35:09Speaker 3: currently my plan is now not to play it and
- 35:13Speaker 3: to hold it through probably game week 16 if i
- 35:16Speaker 3: can get that far.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Oh that's what is that 16 wow 11 game weeks.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I don't know how you still on this.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You still don't right let's move on um Okay, we
- 35:32Speaker 1: were meant to spend the bulk of this podcast playing
- 35:33Speaker 1: a game of buy, sell or hold. That's another 16, 12, 14, 11.
- 35:35Speaker 2: I don't know how many fingers. I don't know how
- 35:38Speaker 2: many fingers that is.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I don't know enough fingers, all right?
- 35:40Speaker 2: I know, clearly, yeah. Toes, can you toes?
- 35:42Speaker 1: Right, we were meant to spend the bulk of this
- 35:44Speaker 1: podcast playing buy, sell or hold, but we've spent the
- 35:46Speaker 1: majority of it arguing. I'm reviewing the game week. So
- 35:49Speaker 1: let's just try and flip through this very quickly. I'm
- 35:52Speaker 1: going to start with someone we haven't actually mentioned so far.
- 35:54Speaker 1: We've mentioned Arsenal a lot, but we haven't mentioned Bukayo Saka.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I am a little bit annoyed with you two because
- 36:00Speaker 1: I wanted him all pre-season. He was in my team
- 36:02Speaker 1: for ages. You put me off him. I think we
- 36:05Speaker 1: were all lured in, weren't we, by solace. If you've
- 36:08Speaker 1: got him, well, Sam, tell me, by sell-hold, depending on
- 36:12Speaker 1: your situation.
- 36:13Speaker 3: So when I wrote him on this script, I was like, he's... He's,
- 36:17Speaker 3: hold if you've got him, but I wouldn't buy him.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Then I looked at it and then I thought, no,
- 36:20Speaker 3: I can't just go in and say that. I've got
- 36:21Speaker 3: to have some actual data to back it up. So
- 36:22Speaker 3: I looked at the numbers. He's had 13 shots so far.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Only five midfielders have had more. He's had five big chances,
- 36:27Speaker 3: which is top across the midfielders in the game. He's
- 36:29Speaker 3: created four chances. Now that's the metric where he's a
- 36:33Speaker 3: bit low because all three of the cheaper Arsenal mids
- 36:35Speaker 3: have got more. Odegaard's got 12, which is the second
- 36:38Speaker 3: highest only to gross. Solis has got eight and Rice
- 36:40Speaker 3: has got six. 30 points overall is seventh most in
- 36:43Speaker 3: the game. Three goals, only Haaland has more with four.
- 36:45Speaker 3: He was top for XG in game week four, but
- 36:47Speaker 3: of course that was skewed by the penalty. The underlying
- 36:49Speaker 3: data actually says you buy him this week. Brighton though,
- 36:54Speaker 3: I think I'd wait until after the Brighton game and
- 36:58Speaker 3: then I'll look because it's tough to sell. If you've
- 37:00Speaker 3: got Erdogan, it's very hard to sell Erdogan to go
- 37:03Speaker 3: for Saka and most people have got the double defence now.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Jules, I'm going to throw in another name that Sam
- 37:06Speaker 1: didn't put on the script but I think is a
- 37:08Speaker 1: good one and relevant solace.
- 37:12Speaker 4: Yeah uh i think there's there's huge potential there it's
- 37:15Speaker 4: cheap oh it's cheap cheaper than cheaper than saka i
- 37:18Speaker 4: still think of the guard right now is the best
- 37:20Speaker 4: value for money and and for you investment because it's
- 37:23Speaker 4: much cheaper than saka and the only three well he's
- 37:25Speaker 4: got uh i think saka is on 30 points and
- 37:28Speaker 4: the other guy is on 27 so in terms of
- 37:31Speaker 4: where you would pay.
- 37:31Speaker 2: For what you would get.
- 37:32Speaker 4: But I think Saka has more potential to be more
- 37:34Speaker 4: consistent through the whole season. But for now, I would
- 37:36Speaker 4: go for Odegaard ahead of Tolis, ahead of Saka.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Okay, we've already done Pascal Gross. Actually, we did him,
- 37:42Speaker 1: but let's put him in here. Buy, sell or hold, Sam?
- 37:45Speaker 1: What would you do for this week? If you didn't
- 37:46Speaker 1: own him, would you wait?
- 37:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd wait.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Because I actually think there's some cheaper options, but you
- 37:52Speaker 3: definitely hold if you have.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Yeah, okay.
- 37:54Speaker 3: No, you hold if you have.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Okay. Schurke. Jules.
- 38:01Speaker 2: That's a tricky one. And you know how much I
- 38:03Speaker 2: love him. He's my boy.
- 38:04Speaker 1: That's why I went to you on that. And Foden suspended.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Foden Redcard, he'd be suspended, although we saw Iliman Ndiaye
- 38:10Speaker 4: coming on off the bench and did really well in
- 38:13Speaker 4: the derby. He was very good. Bachecki, you can buy
- 38:18Speaker 4: if you don't have him. You can hold if you
- 38:20Speaker 4: still have him. Would you buy him?
- 38:23Speaker 3: I don't know if I'd buy him.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Because I think there's so much potential.
- 38:27Speaker 4: He will give you some really good returns, but he
- 38:29Speaker 4: will give you some frustrating weeks as well. So if
- 38:31Speaker 4: you're ready to go through that, which I'm not, and
- 38:35Speaker 4: it's even harder for me because he's my boy, but
- 38:37Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I can't take the hokey-cokey. Is that what you mentioned earlier?
- 38:41Speaker 2: Like up and down.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It's like system front.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I think, no. I'm not even sure exactly what. Is
- 38:47Speaker 2: it the hokey-cokey? Hey, hokey-cokey.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I mean, why, how come did that come up in
- 38:54Speaker 4: your head when you were a young child?
- 38:56Speaker 1: Well, it's like referring, yeah, and it's referring to in-out,
- 38:58Speaker 1: because it goes in-out, in-out.
- 39:00Speaker 4: In-out.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Right, we're meant to be a quick game, guys.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Up-down, up-down for Cherky. I'm not sure I'm ready for that.
- 39:05Speaker 4: So I would not go there, but you can buy,
- 39:08Speaker 4: but be ready for it.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Right, let's keep the pace going.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Bruno.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Sam.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Sam can deal with him. I like, this is a.
- 39:16Speaker 3: So, okay, so you look at his stats. No, we
- 39:18Speaker 3: don't have a time for too many stats.
- 39:20Speaker 1: No, but we do.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Okay, but he's top for goals, top for shots. Yeah,
- 39:24Speaker 3: and that's the thing, isn't it? So you look at
- 39:25Speaker 3: the stats for Manchester United, he looks good. Then you
- 39:28Speaker 3: look and you go, but he's banked three times. in
- 39:30Speaker 3: four game weeks he's 12 million it's too much money
- 39:34Speaker 3: and actually then when you compare his like overall numbers
- 39:37Speaker 3: his 7.3 points per star is the same as raya
- 39:39Speaker 3: by the way who's a lot cheaper like half the
- 39:41Speaker 3: price and it ranks him 13th in the game tell
- 39:44Speaker 3: him to tell him I don't want to tell you
- 39:47Speaker 3: to sell him cows because you will blame me for
- 39:49Speaker 3: the rest of my life. However, I am probably going
- 39:53Speaker 3: to give him one more week. But if he doesn't
- 39:55Speaker 3: return in game week five, then I'll sell, I think.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah, same as me, I think. Quickly, Jules, remember Gabriel.
- 40:06Speaker 2: He's still the most selected.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Defender in the game, by the way. That surprised me.
- 40:10Speaker 3: At his price.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Yeah, he is at £ 8 million. But when you think
- 40:14Speaker 4: about Konza, £ 4. 5 million, I think that's a no-brainer. If
- 40:18Speaker 4: you have Gabriel and you don't have much value in him,
- 40:22Speaker 4: then I think let him go and replace him with
- 40:24Speaker 4: a cheaper Arsenal defender that would get you more points.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Okay, that was quite short for you. Isak, Sam.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Fixture swing now. I think you had the opportunity to
- 40:32Speaker 3: have him, didn't you? Whereas now we're going into some
- 40:34Speaker 3: tougher fixtures. I do think Bournemouth's defence is gettable. But
- 40:38Speaker 3: after that, I'm not sure that he's really worth the
- 40:40Speaker 3: £ 9 million. Point one, I think, you have to spend
- 40:43Speaker 3: on him now. So I think he's probably a sell.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Okay. Differential of the week. Last week, well done, Jules.
- 40:50Speaker 1: You did win this. Savanir with eight points, gold, two
- 40:53Speaker 1: bonus and a yellow. Sam, you went for Vusk... Why
- 40:57Speaker 1: can I not speak Vuskavich with six points for a
- 40:59Speaker 1: clean sheet? So Jules, that means you get to go first.
- 41:03Speaker 4: My pick, and I'm sorry, Sam, I'm stealing him from you,
- 41:06Speaker 4: from your heart, from the love story that you have
- 41:08Speaker 4: with Daniel Munoz. because that is my differential of the week.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Forest play against Coventry this weekend. A Coventry team that
- 41:17Speaker 4: is obviously not very good. He's only owned by 5.6%
- 41:22Speaker 4: of the managers. 5.4 million it would cost you. I
- 41:25Speaker 4: thought it was excellent against Villa, although he only got
- 41:28Speaker 4: two points. But he's on that right-hand side, right-wing back.
- 41:31Speaker 4: I mean, Glasner is building a forest. The team that
- 41:34Speaker 4: he basically had at Palace when you look player for player.
- 41:37Speaker 4: But in Munoz, he brought the guy he had at
- 41:39Speaker 4: Palace straight away at Forest. It's easier to do it
- 41:41Speaker 4: that way. And I think Munoz would be great in
- 41:45Speaker 4: that game and in everything great that Forest are going
- 41:47Speaker 4: to do.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Sam?
- 41:50Speaker 3: Do you know what's really funny is I very, very
- 41:51Speaker 3: nearly picked Williams on the other side, and that would
- 41:54Speaker 3: have been quite fun. But instead, I have stuck with Forrest,
- 41:57Speaker 3: but I've gone with Ndoi. So Jules normally complains that
- 42:00Speaker 3: I pick a really, really highly owned differential.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Because you do.
- 42:03Speaker 3: This one's owned by 0.7% of managers, Jules. So there
- 42:06Speaker 3: you are, nice and different. It's going to cost you 5.5 million.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I like the Gibbs White pick. I like the Williams pick.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I also like the Munoz pick. As we all know,
- 42:14Speaker 3: I like him.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But Ndoi.
- 42:16Speaker 3: I think he's gone massively under the radar. Just one
- 42:19Speaker 3: goal and two assists last season. And I think maybe
- 42:20Speaker 3: that's due with the kind of the hokey-cokey again of
- 42:23Speaker 3: managers that we had at Forest last time round. But
- 42:26Speaker 3: in Glasden's system, he's playing as one of two number 10s.
- 42:29Speaker 3: He's already scored once against Liverpool. He's racked up seven
- 42:31Speaker 3: shots in the box so far in the first four matches,
- 42:33Speaker 3: which is the joint most of any Forest player. Of those,
- 42:37Speaker 3: three have been defined as big chances by Opta, which
- 42:40Speaker 3: Oney and Bermo and Saka have more of in the
- 42:42Speaker 3: midfielder slots. He's also created two big chances for his teammates.
- 42:46Speaker 3: And As Jules mentioned, it's Coventry for them in game
- 42:49Speaker 3: week five. They've conceded 10 goals so far this season.
- 42:52Speaker 3: And I just think that there's a really nice opportunity
- 42:54Speaker 3: to go with somebody a bit different. If you can't
- 42:57Speaker 3: afford Gibbs White or if you want a budget friendly
- 43:00Speaker 3: version of a player like Pascal Gross, who's got a
- 43:03Speaker 3: nicer fixture.
- 43:04Speaker 1: That even got a rare nod of approval from Jules.
- 43:06Speaker 1: That doesn't happen often. Captain's transfers and chips. I think
- 43:10Speaker 1: we've all established there's no chips being played this week. Sam,
- 43:13Speaker 1: you said you're not making any transfers. Jules, are you
- 43:16Speaker 1: going to make any?
- 43:17Speaker 2: No, no transfer this week. Oh, we're boring, aren't we?
- 43:19Speaker 1: Until he decides to at the last minute. What about
- 43:21Speaker 1: captaincy then?
- 43:22Speaker 2: No, I've got a great team. You know, I just
- 43:24Speaker 2: had 93 points.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Captaincy, Sam? I'm going. Why do I do this?
- 43:29Speaker 2: I don't say because you're going to influence me, you two.
- 43:32Speaker 1: No, I tried to influence you and you ignored me.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I said to go with the Chelsea player last week.
- 43:36Speaker 4: No, right now it's on Haaland at home to Sunderland.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Sunderland have played, obviously, on Wednesday night in Europe, who
- 43:44Speaker 4: I think, Because it's new for them, we'll feel it
- 43:46Speaker 4: a bit at the weekend. So I think Haaland, even
- 43:49Speaker 4: in Sunderland, have a really strong defence and all of that.
- 43:52Speaker 4: I think it's a good call.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Haaland at home, isn't it?
- 43:56Speaker 1: He's going to be so heavily captained as well, isn't he?
- 43:59Speaker 1: So if you don't captain him and he scores, that's
- 44:01Speaker 1: what worries me.
- 44:03Speaker 3: I do really like the DCL captain pick at home
- 44:06Speaker 3: to Crystal Palace, though, who play on Thursday night in
- 44:09Speaker 3: Europe and have, a squad that's already been a bit
- 44:12Speaker 3: struggling so far this season and Leeds are flying and
- 44:14Speaker 3: Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks great. And I know they played on
- 44:17Speaker 3: Monday night, but then they've had the rest of this
- 44:19Speaker 3: week off. So there is something I really like about
- 44:22Speaker 3: the DCL captain, but I will this week. I think
- 44:25Speaker 3: there's times to go against Harlan and in a home fixture.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Like last week.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Doesn't feel like the one.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Should have gone against him.
- 44:31Speaker 3: He was away last week.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, of course. Oh, that's how you end the pod.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Slight tackle like that. No problem. How many points did
- 44:40Speaker 2: you get again with the right captain? Oh, yeah. Less
- 44:43Speaker 2: than you.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Pascal Gross.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Red arrow. Okay.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Thank goodness it's over. This has been a challenge, hasn't it?
- 44:51Speaker 1: The Fantasy Show is back on Friday, guys. As always,
- 44:54Speaker 1: last one before the international break. But we will still
- 44:56Speaker 1: be podding. During the break, of course, we will. Unfortunately,
- 44:59Speaker 1: I'm still going to have to see these guys, especially Jules.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Do remember to set those alarms for Friday afternoon. Do
- 45:05Speaker 1: not miss the final deadline before the break. There is
- 45:08Speaker 1: a Friday night game. The best of luck. And we
- 45:11Speaker 1: don't name this podcast, but I.
- 45:12Speaker 3: Wish we did, because if we did, it would have
- 45:14Speaker 3: to be called The Hokey Cokey.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Bye.
