- 0:05[SPEAKER_03]: Hello!
- 0:07[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to MLQD NFL Pine Dash Bears Albuquerque on our work back, maybe you're back to another country I'm back to make you really like
- 0:15[SPEAKER_03]: spring break road trip with three kids in a minivan.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: I am on the verge of insanity.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just spent seven hours in a plane with the kids, which was actually pretty good because we flew Delta, but Delta's partners with the Air France.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: And let me tell you, every time I fly one of these foreign airlines, I find out like how crappy our airlines are.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: Because I love Delta first of all, Delta's my favorite of the domestics.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's really good.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: But you sort of realize how far our airlines have slept when you get on one of these, you know, air frans or lifetons, uh, or Swiss air or whatever it is, um, it's just, it's, you look at our, our planes and it's just not, not great.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: But that's another story for another day.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: You mean that spirit flight that I'm taking to Texas in a few weeks isn't going to be an absolute lap of luxury?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you can't upgrade until they're a version of first class.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: Can't you?
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: So that's good.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_03]: I told I told my wife because we're going away for an anniversary in a couple of weeks.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, and she's not much of a traveler.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, listen, we're going to spear it.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, I just, I can't guarantee that we're going to land anywhere near where we're supposed to.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we might have to just, I flew to figure it out.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: from Newark to Boston, and I won't fly like long distances on these planes.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: I did it once with my family when I flew, I would flew to Kansas City because it was like one of the only options to go direct from Boston with the kids when I was bringing Steve to Arrowhead for his 10th birthday, right?
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: I was just 10 one of his 10th birthday presents, supposed to go to Arrowhead for a Monday night game.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: But other than that, like it was like there was a boss, there was a newer to Boston where I upgrade and if you sit in the first three or four rows, it's not first class and it doesn't cost that much more, but you can pay to upgrade, which I would recommend.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the Southwest thing, you know.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was worse than spirit was frontier frontier.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: I flew front here on Jeremiah my training camp trip one year because it made the most sense to fly.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think I flew from like Burbank to Vegas because I was like where the cowboys are, which is close to the Burbank, all of that.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: And the tray table, I don't know how much money they're saving on this, but the tray table was like the size of like a note card.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: This can't be that much cheaper.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Are you just trying to be crappy now?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: You don't mean like, and the seats feel like legitimately felt like folding chairs.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, not to do a hard pivot here, but I'm still recovering from, you know, we came home yesterday and then right into the national championships.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_03]: My daughter, if you con had one, she would have won the family pool.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so she's upset about last night, too.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: She's a little banged up from everything, but I was surprised that like my visceral reaction to the fact that I didn't realize this was the first all transfer team to win the NCAA tournament, not to mention that Michigan has an affairs past to begin with.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's just like they were just hard to roof for.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I mean, I was like, you look at the shots, you know, I mean, you look at the shots of all the
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I mean, like, look, legitimately, like a Michigan football game, Michigan basketball game, it looks like a Star Wars convention in the in the student section.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I honestly, I mean, it was like, I, I will say this.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I, I said this to, like, I'm one of my college, like group chats, just rest assured that they would trade all of this every single thing that they've had and every single sport for the last 25 years that we've had in football.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, and then they know it, deep down, they know it too.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's one sport that really matters more than the other ones.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: And they will never have the upper hand in that one.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: So don't worry about all of this ancillary stuff.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: This is all a bunch of insecure, chest-downing by a bunch of dorks.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: We still have the upper hand in.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: Oh man, I think it's like a symptom of the NIL thing, but it just sucks that now.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: The two things were things sucks because it's like, I mean, you know what the other thing that was like, interesting to me, and not to get off too far off in a tangent, but, you know, like this is obviously, this is a great Michigan team, and I fold this closure.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: I Ohio State had the chance to hire Dusty May two years ago, colossal mistake, not hiring him.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to chew and coat that.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I, you know, they've been unbelievably dominant.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: They deserve a ton of credit.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really good team.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: They play the right way all that, but I heard people comparing them, like, oh, is this the greatest college basketball team of all time?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say, wait a minute, no.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: When we were in the 90s, you had teams that had, like, guys who were going to play 15 years in the NBA, staying three years, you know what I mean?
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: So like, to compare this to like,
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: a team that had like Christian Layton or Bobby Hurley grant Hill on the same team playing against like Jamal Nashburn and right and then the fab five and it's just this is a really great team for it's era but I
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think college, I maybe I'm wrong about that, but like I don't think college basketball is close to what it was when you had like again like the guys who would wind up being like the top five picks in the NBA habitually staying two and three years in college.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: And then we have the flip side of it with the NFL where everybody just stays in college in perpetuity because you can make a lot of money and you have great draft classes and then you have the one like we have now that we're going to talk about today which is not I mean Albert this isn't 2022 necessarily but it's not you know I don't know it's not 2023 right
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: And you could say this with, to some degree with almost every class.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: But I think this one in particular, and we're gonna do a top 10 mock today.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna alternate picks one through 10.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: Just kind of get our feet wet here because I gotta, I gotta do one at some point Albert.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: Now I know you do one, you do the closest one to the actual draft.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: I get the second closest.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: It goes by order of seniority, so you just gotta work your way up.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: I just gotta wait for Albert to kick the bucket before I get the coveted spot right before the NFL draft to do my mock, but it's the situation where it almost happened in Paris by the way.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: I fell down on flight of stairs in the, in the, in the, in the, in the, bad, like a lot.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: It was not good.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: It was, um, so it's a video.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: So like my travel really quick, my travel day, um, last Tuesday, a week ago today, I, I was on an 830 AM flight out of Phoenix, where I was there for the owner's meetings.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: I landed at 430 in Boston, so five hour flight, post the three hour time change.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: I was then met my family, another family, the Henderson's that we were traveling with at the airport, 7 p.m. flight to Paris that landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris at like 7.30 a.m. Paris time.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: So then we went from there to not being able to check indoor Airbnb until like three o'clock.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: So we went on a food tour.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: And so at this point, I'm like a, I mean, I'm like in a different dimension.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, because I haven't really had much sleep in a few days, because I was at the owners meetings before that.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: And so we go on this like really cool food tour that Emily booked where we go and we go to the different like chocolate shops like all like desserts like all over paradise was really really cool and our tour guide was phenomenal and taking us through that and so I have like this big bag of of like cup of chocolates and you know meringue all that stuff right and so we're walking over to the train station to go back to our beer Airbnb to check in.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I take two steps down.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't see there was a sign, like one of those signs with the figure of the guy falling over like this.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so I slip and I catch myself.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: And then I turn around and see everybody's kind of like, whoa, that was close.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then as I'm turning around, I feel like,
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: fall down the stairs and I landed so hard on my elbow that like my wife, our friends, thought like I broke my arm.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I actually I got up for a second and I said to them, I'm like, I think my shoulders are bigger problem, right?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: So because you know, like you can feel it's like, you didn't try to do that.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'm okay with everything.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: Huh?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: I said you didn't get up and try to do the, oh, I'm okay, thing.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, my elbow is bruised, right?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I know that, but when you have a pain somewhere else, which you didn't fall in that, you didn't fall on it, you know what I mean?
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's worse, right?
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'm luckily, I, my elbow, I think broke my fall from, you know, like going all the way down, that's like huge fly of stairs in the subway.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: uh... but uh... yeah that probably i like i knew it didn't look good when like strangers a bunch of strangers started coming over to me asking if i was okay why don't the language kind of shatters the um... shatters the reputation of france a little bit you know it was very very nice yeah all right i'll be very very very nice welcome by the french how about that the clumsy american falling down the stairs
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: Although, although, although me stopping my fall was actually pretty athletic.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: I would say for a 46 year old, so former back then I go over high school QB.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: He's still got it.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: One, so I got it.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_03]: I took a French in college and I swear we're going to start doing this mock draft in a second, but like there's no other place for this story to go in my life.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: And otherwise it just goes up in flames.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but I needed a link.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_03]: I met with my advisor and like, I think like the year before I graduated, the advisor was like, you need a language, like you have to pick one.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and do the language of crime.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: So I was like a junior and I was taking freshman like entry level French because I'd never, I don't know.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and, uh, I got a D, you know, you know, you know, you
- 11:06[SPEAKER_03]: really we were just getting by by the skin of our teeth on this thing right and so a year after college I go out with my friends and we're in New York City and we have two good of a time you know one of those time travel nights where you don't remember anything about what happened.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: You're way crapping to poke your puttin the pieces together yeah.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: Correct and so my buddy tells me I'm hanging off of a pole on the subway
- 11:30[SPEAKER_03]: probably part of the reason I don't drink anymore.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_03]: And a French guy is making fun of me.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_03]: He's like making fun of me because I'm banged up and I'm like, you know, barely functional, barely coherent.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_03]: And my college roommate who was out with me at the time, one of my best friends said, you just started speaking perfect French to this guy.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: And like you explained to him that you were tired and that it was been a long day and that you just need to sit down and everyone in the whole place was like
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: What do you say you say you say you say like you just need to have a few drinks before French and you would have been okay Like I blacked out into conversational French Amazing again Don't drink.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I I was bad.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was bad in foreign languages which is which is like Really kind of like almost like a slap in the face to my mom because she knows six languages I'm sorry about that
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but yeah, I actually finished my language requirement in college, not at Ohio State, but it Columbus State Community College.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: So that was like that was our that was sort of our cheat code is like if there was a subject you didn't really really like or feel I put much effort into into you would just go take it at the Community College industry, go knock it out
- 12:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I've been really getting into lately?
- 12:59[SPEAKER_03]: I've been loving watching classic versions of the office on Netflix.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: The only issue is it's not technically available on Netflix in the US.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_03]: However, I found a sneaky workaround.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: Today's sponsor, Surfshark VPN.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_03]: A VPN is a virtual private network which allows me to mask my real IP address.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: And even replace it with another IP address anywhere else in the world.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: Essentially meaning that I can pretend
- 13:23[SPEAKER_03]: to being Canada, which is a few clicks of my mouse.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: And just like that, I'm able to stream the office to my hearts content.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_03]: Go to surfshark.com slash MMKB or use the code MMKB to check out and get four extra months of Surfshark VPN.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_03]: Surfshark has a risk free 30 day money back guarantee secure your privacy by going to surfshark.com slash MMKB for four extra months.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: All of these links will be available in the show notes of this episode.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: So check it out surfshark.com slash mmqb or use code mmqb.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's focus, put our hats on here.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_03]: I have taken a liberty of giving myself the first pick because I want one that I'm not going to mess up today.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: And you're going to nail this one.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to make that prediction.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm going to nail this one.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's Diego Poviet, no, I'm kidding.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take the number one pick.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_03]: And what we're going to do is we're just going to bounce back and forth.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: And really, it's just a conversation about
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: What do these teams need?
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: What are they looking for?
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: Who might they be looking at?
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: And we're just going to make a little bit of a conversation.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: We'll do one through 10, next episode, 11 through 20, and then we'll finish it up the following week.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so number one, the Las Vegas Raiders, you're on the clock.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Albert, this feels like,
- 14:43[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and we haven't talked since the Raiders signed Kirk cousins, uh, but this feels as inevitable as the Titans taking Cam Ward, uh, possibly, it actually feels more inevitable in that felt inevitable the moment that the Raiders got, um, the number one pick.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it's Fernando Mendoza.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and what's interesting about this whole thing now is that we're in batshit season.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_03]: for the NFL draft, right?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: Where here's what happens.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_03]: These scouts and these teams work on this stuff all year.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_03]: In December, their notebook is pretty full.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: They know vaguely what they want and what they're looking at and who's good and who's not good.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_03]: We talk to them then.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_03]: We develop and consensus and then batch it season starts.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_03]: So we have the combine and some guy who's six
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: was a car salesman gets invited to the combine and runs a four one and then all of a sudden he's going to be a number and then you have the well they might not take this guy they might take this guy and they might not take this guy they might take this guy and we're in the middle of that you know it like people are posting about how well this is the betting favor to go second overall car act and then all of a sudden like two days before the drafts people like Albert will put out their mock drafts and everyone's like oh that's
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, yeah, it's because stuff that we've, you know, kind of gleaned all along that like the common sense and we're not just like grabbing it every straw and shattering the tapestry that is this mock draft.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: Every time a shiny new object comes around and we decide that this thing is that we got to blow it all up.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know, that's my miniature rant here, but I think that this is this one is easy.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's Fernando Mendoza, I'm not this Tyson's thing is whatever, I mean, I don't even know what I mean, you know, it's just let me let me simplify this because I think this is one thing and I I said again, I sell a lot of phone calls to make and I'm not there yet on a lot of this stuff.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: I am I do feel like I'm here on this though, and I have been here on this for a while.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: They were probably down at that point to Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: And like they had looked at all the quarterbacks.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: They had scattered most of them live.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: They wanted to get ahead on it because I think they knew it would inform them on how they handle the rest of their off season.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: They've been diligent.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: This has not been a coronation for the Raiders.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote about this eight days ago.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: Feel free to go and check that out.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of detail in there on everything they've been through.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: But I think because they had kind of gotten to the point where it's like, okay, we'd be comfortable with Fernando Mendoza from an Indian or the Heisman trophy winner or Dante more for Morgan and we have to pick which one.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then Dante more decides in mid-January to return to Oregon for his fourth year.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: It basically became academic at that point.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Fernando Mendoza's six with five, 236 pounds.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: Fernando Mendoza has a lot of upside.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying Ty Simpson's tape is a good, because what I've gathered from a lot of people is that he does more NFL things on tape than Mendoza does.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: Mendoza comes from a very RPO heavy offensive in Indiana.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: He was throwing down a fellow receivers in Omar Cooper and Elijah Sarat and Charlie Becker.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, I would say last year,
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: didn't deal with a lot of football adversity out there.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like things didn't go wrong for him a lot.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: There was the game against Penn State.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: He had to fight through some stuff against Oregon.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously Ohio State may have huge throws at the end of the big tent title game.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: But for the most part, a lot of times the play went the way it was drawn up to go.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're we're talking about not where the guys are but where they might be in four or five years and you're talking about who is the quarterback that you're going to most likely feel comfortable paying 70 to 75 million dollars a year, I think there's no question as windows.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: And what I was going to say about batshit season is now we're arguing about snaps under center, right, with Fernando Mendoza.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's interesting because, you know, at the same time, you see kind of the consensus in the NFL folks say, what a great sign in Kirk Cousins is.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then,
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't like Fernando Mendoza in this offense because he can't play under center and I'm like Did you watch Indiana at all last year?
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: He's incredibly athletic.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's not, you know, he's not Josh Allen.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, people people I can't use can't with hasn't Correct me.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like can't hasn't are two different things
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: You don't think of Kirk Cousins and I know that you're a a staunch Truth or in this category here, but like Even if Kirk Cousins starts the first three or four games of the season, which I don't even know if it's gonna make it that far.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: But let's say that Kirk Cousins even gives Mendoza a little bit of a runway into the season.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_03]: You don't think Mendoza who already has the Raiders playbook, who's been studying it for a month.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're really speaking with him, yeah.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: Can't figure out with all of the private quarterback training help in the world how to start playing under center.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, come on.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's like he'll be fine.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: And he's athletic.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a boot heavy offense.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think that Fernando Mendoza,
- 20:27[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, God, we just saw Kirk cousins in Atlanta with, you know, and kind of struggling to get through some of the play action and stuff like that, like I think Bendoza is a better fit for that offense even having not done it.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: than cousins.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that's a wild take to have, but like, I think Mendoza will ultimately be better at that offense than cousins.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, and we can come up with a ton of examples of it.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like how often to patch up my home is play under Center at Texas Tech almost never, right?
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't know if he took a single snap under Center at Texas Tech.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: Andy, he adapted, you know, and Andy read adapted the offense to him too.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's part of the coaches job to adapt to what you quarterback does well, but I, you know, I like Jerrigoff almost never played and I think that's that that's probably a really good compliment.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing with this whole debate to me, it's just I think it's manufactured because people need something to talk about when this is such a slam dunk, you know what I mean?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: So we we generate conversation and look like again like I'm not denying that there isn't tape of Ty Simpson doing things that translate to the NFL that Fernando Mendoza doesn't have.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: project like okay like who's going to be most comfortable playing in an NFL office in September of 2026.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's who's going to be the best player in 2029. Who's the best player in 2030?
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: And like I think that's why I because you're not just you're not drafting production or drafting rates.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Fernando Mendoza is a big athletic, like does he have a Josh Allen arm?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, but he's got like that again, like that Jared Goff whip, you know, like there's just a lot to like there and you can project him out and again, like we're looking at golf, you know, people could go off to say like, well, you know, like is that, yes.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you can get Jared Goff at the first over all pic, yes, that's good enough.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Jared Goff went to two franchises that were objectively horrible before he got there and took them both to conference championship games took one of them to a super bowl.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: So you just have to be good around it, you know, and so there are three or four quarterbacks in football at a time.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: that are better than that, you know what I mean that are like, yes, this guy, this guy is going to cover up your flaws and you can have holes in your roster, it doesn't matter because this guy is that those guys, it's really hard to find those guys.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: If you can get a guy who can be, who can, who you can win with, who if you're really good around him, you're going to wind up contending for championships, that's plenty good enough to be, you know, top five, top 10 pick and, you know,
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: And to be clear, like I remember one of the first, no, my first draft I think at NFL Network was this big discussion about who's going to go number one, James Winston or Marcus Marriota, and there was the talk of like, well, Winston is more of your classic.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to evolve into Ben Roth, this burger and Marriota might be rookie of the year, but then he might peer out.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, you
- 23:50[SPEAKER_03]: None of those guys ended up the fact that, you know, like, yeah, Tyson sitting in front of me knows it might be, you know, Kenny Pickett and will love us, you know, in a couple of years, too.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, so, and that's an important caveat to make here.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: Number two, Albert, the New York Jets.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Select Texas Tech Defense Event David Bailey.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I do is going to come down for the Jets.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: David Bailey and Arvelle Reese.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think with a coach who's on the hot seat in Aaron Glenn, there is a need to have a guy who projects easy in your defense and also, like, I've talked to people a little more about Bailey, you know, who sounds a little bit like is a Notchinson.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's just, you know, like is he going to hold up against the run like there's that there's some of those questions but man he's in MFR as a pass rusher and he's really difficult to deal with is a pass rusher and he can evolve the other stuff and so I think David Bailey is going to be the second pick of the draft.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think regardless that the the jets are going to take one of the pass rusher's
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: And the reason I go with Bailey over Reese, and I think we talked about this, you know, a couple of weeks ago, is just because David Bailey is like, you know exactly what he's going to be as a pro.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas with our Val Reese, you know, he's one of these hybrids.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen more of them over the last few years.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: Michael Parsons is the gold standard, of course, but.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we've seen more and more players that are used as those sorts of hybrids off-ball on-ball.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: Lineback or Russian types, and, you know, your Jod Campbell, Abdul Carter, you know,
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen Walker like you know, that's that's our velvety.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: You have to have a plan for him I just think it's easier with daily daily David Bailey to to plug them in and give yourselves a give yourself a chance and maybe he can be like an aid in Hutchinson type edge type edge Russia for for for Aaron Glenn who obviously had Hutchinson himself a Detroit
- 26:01[SPEAKER_03]: smart move to if you're if you're the GM of the jets right because you and I hate to say this in like a defeatous way I feel like I've been burying air and Glenn for six months now but I think more than likely you're probably looking at a situation where another coach is seeing this through the entirety of the rebuild I mean this is not going to be a good team next year and
- 26:23[SPEAKER_03]: Glenn's got a really change and evolve as a coach.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think it is a CEO if he wants to hold on to that job.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_03]: And so taking someone who you don't need a plan for, that is sort of scheme of verse, you know, I think is is the right move.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I mean, Jets will take another swing at it.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you avoid the ghost of Vernon Colston here with the number two pick.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_03]: Number three.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean,
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: You tell me Albert, I mean, I know that you're in Ohio State Guy.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, is this where our velvety goes or if I were going to go the big tackle from Miami?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what I'd be talking about.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: You don't you think that the humans need here with with with Greece though, you know, again, you have to be creative.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of that is going to be on, you know, on Michael
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: They, they, they, they, they, they got some stuff.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're, they're holding on to the, they're holding on to the, to the Ganon scheme and, and bring in Nick Rollis back.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Nick Rollis has has the flexibility and his scheme to, to come up with a plan for someone like our Vell Reese.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think the ceiling is just so sky high with Reese.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's just, I mean, looking through some of my notes here, and it's just, you know,
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: The speed and explosiveness is just God given and you know, you can't really replicate.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so like you have a guy who kind of becomes your Swiss army knife there.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_02]: Who else would you consider here?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: Am I helping you workshop this paper?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: Did you just take where he's?
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think the tackle for Miami, right?
- 28:09[SPEAKER_03]: Like because he was the thing.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: So then you'd have a book and so you're paying Paris John some this off season or next to be your left tackle and now you know it makes sense because now you're right tackle is taking care of and I mean what did you do this off season you brought in I mean your big off season addition was Tyler L. Gier you're going to run it back with James Connor one more time Jacobi reset and gardener mentioned you but
- 28:38[SPEAKER_03]: essentially you're you're you're creating the groundwork for a quarterback in the following craft right and uh or or bringing in a veteran you know uh not like that I like that I I just wonder when you look at Michael Flores background
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like the Niners and Rams, how much have they really infiltrated in the offensive line over the years?
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like how often have we seen them just sort of try to make it work?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I, you know, I look at like the Jonah Jackson thing blowing up on the Rams, you know what I mean?
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that didn't work out.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_02]: And Kevin Dodson did.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: right, but they, you know, they kept, you know, Rob haven't signed a right tackle forever.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, Mike was obviously in San Francisco with Kyle Shanahan, the invested in Trent Williams.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: But outside of that, we've seen them kind of have moving pieces at the rest of those spots and like guys go and free agency, even with the jets when he was with the jets.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: And that's probably a worse example because they're kind of flipping their face.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it would be,
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: It would be a departure to some degree from Michael Floor's background, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be smart.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean the idea of having both your tackle spots taken care of potentially for a decade, that's pretty enticing, you know, and I do think Maui Noah is a relatively safe pick, you know?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, I don't know.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: This is up to you, Connor.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: This is your call.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: So, I know.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: It's my call.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_03]: So, the only reason that I would push away from reason, I'll just, I'll do reset
- 30:14[SPEAKER_03]: Having the same conversation right now.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and so I'm gonna put the card in, but This is not just a coaching decision, right?
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: This is an ownership decision, and if your Michael Bidwell Does Rvel Reese remind you at all?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Possibly of the two-year stretch where you spent first round picks pick eight and then pick 16 after Kyler Murray on defensive players that you needed to have a plan for and that goes from Zeven Collins to Isaiah Simmons, right?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and that's true.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_03]: And and if you're been to PTSD from those two.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that was yeah.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: Are you talking about that in the meeting at all and is everybody in any you'd be like hold on, you know
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I mean, that's a year point.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that that's 100% correct.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like anyway, those guys both those guys were seen is like Relatively safe picks and then like you know it became what it became so yeah because Isaiah Simmons is probably
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: Isaiah Simmons is like, right there.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's a different hybrid, obviously.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: Safety, linebacker hybrid versus linebacker Russian hybrid.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: But, and I think most people would look at reasons.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think what's recent, the interesting thing is, like,
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Most people think his evolution is going to go like Michael Parsons did because if you're investing in him at that level and you're going to draft him that high, then you, you're going to naturally, you know, kind of maybe push him towards the premium position, which is as a rush and you know, but so that will be interesting for sure.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, all right, this is where it starts to get interesting and this is where so this is where you don't need to manufacture this tie Simpson bullshit the draft gets fun right now and it gets fun organically right now for right for are you gonna take running back I am I am I just here's here's why
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is an investment in your young quarterback.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I think back to some of the examples of young quarterbacks playing really well in part because they had a great running back next to them.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think of Todd Gurli, which Eric Gough, I think of
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: I execute Eliot with deck presscott when those guys were young, right?
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: Even Sakeleon Barclay with Daniel Jones, you know, we've seen examples where quarterbacks have I feel like they're their their development has been accelerated by having a great running back next to them.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: And Jeremiah love to me is sort of the
- 32:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think, you know, the way we've looked at it and I think we looked at the last 12 years, right?
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: Then there's seven or eight running backs that have gone in the top 10.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: The general prototype for the guy who goes that high at that position is 220 to 230 pounds and can play all three downs, right?
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's almost like a,
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're looking for Marshall Falk in the passing game and Adrian Peterson in the run game and not it's not perfect because those guys aren't all of that at once, but you have both those elements, you know, which turns the guy into kind of a Joker, you know what I mean?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're true and I know Sean Peyton uses that term to describe like the third downback, but
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: When you've got a guy who can run between the tackles, but when you break the huddle, you're not sure where he's going to line up.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's a huge weapon as far as forcing certain personnel onto the field, forcing certain matchups.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think there's so many different ways someone like Jeremiah love can just change the equation for cam board.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: Not to mention the fact that with a guy like that,
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now, more often, you're going to be in, instead of being in, you know, second and 11 or third and eight, more often now you're going to be the second and sixth or third and two.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that takes a huge weight off of your young quarterback.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: So in a ton of different ways, I think Jeremiah love can help you develop camward.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: And there's nothing more important now than developing camward.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, Brian Daybaugh saw, you know, what St. Juan did for D.J.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: in New York and that great year, they got a D.J.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: that first year they were there.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: So, love makes all the sense in the world doing.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I was talking to you about that.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, uh, there's no, uh, I'm Mayor may not have, uh, Jeremiah my love sort of coming out here in the next couple days.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_03]: And, uh, which you guys should read.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's in the traffic.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: We can actually show the magazine stories on now.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, whatever.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: Spoiler alert.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: Do you have to go around something?
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was out in California two weeks ago hanging out with Jeremiah.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_03]: I love, but doing some research for it.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: So there's one story that's in the magazine that I'll keep, but I was talking to his running backs coach and that.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: know, his home run abilities unlike anything that I think a lot of these coaches have seen.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: He, when he was in high school, he was sitting, I saw one in person by the way, I saw him break off like a 99 yarder against Boston College this past year.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and so I did that against Indiana and the playoffs last year in 24.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have a great story in the magazine about that Boston college run and the reason why he did it because like sometimes, you know, it's like okay, well, you know, a running to actually try to score on every play, but like there was something that happened that led him to score that touchdown and we could talk about it on the show.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think later on this week or next week when the story comes out, but in high school.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: He was a sophomore and he was sitting out because he had a hamstring injury and wasn't playing or anything like that and the team was losing and the momentum was dragging and so his friend looks over and he puts all of his stuff on, checks himself in for one play, scores an 80 yard touchdown and then checks himself back out of the game because he's hurt, right, but like
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: He is a three down player, this coach is say that really is best stuff is the blocking and the short yardage stuff.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, he's a great short yardage runner.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to be able to move this sticks.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that's a huge deal for the Titans, just to help them, you know, move the chains, get going on offense a little bit.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: Dayball, love him.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a million different ways you can help you on quarterback with him even like and I say like you know second and six and third too that's a big deal to know because like when you get in second and six and third and two the offense is playbook is wide open the defenses playbook is is is is smaller
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: And so you're effectively making creating situations for your quarterback where you're going to put him at a schematic advantage versus when you're in third and eleven.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's only so many things you can do as an offense and the defense can do whatever they want, you know.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I just think just from a developmental standpoint will be really great.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and then I think like the Titans could even look at coming back and maybe looking at receiver, you know, in the second round.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: I know they they took a couple last year, you know, DK looks like he's got some real potential, but yeah, I mean, I think if either of the past
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: Then it becomes a real question, like if either a eraser bailier there, then I think that that would be a real conversation, but with the way we have it going here, I think it makes it easier for them just to say, let's take Jeremiah love also, you know, if there was like a left tackle, like where you were like, yeah, like that's the guy, then I could see that, but the problem is like you got JC lathe and who you took high as a right tackle, I think the two best tackles in the draft.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now we know, and then Fano from Utah are both rice tackle.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that makes it all easier to just better than the running back here, too.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: So that leaves me in an interesting spot here, but the journey is number five.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, because we have now we know on the board, you didn't take sunny styles from Ohio State.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: And we have, you know, and we also have Caleb Downs, okay, who I think factors in here.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that you can make three connections to John Harbaugh.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like we sometimes we eat our own tails with this kind of analysis and in an ends up just being, hey, this guy was clearly the best player when we took him.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_03]: But Harbaugh has always had any lead.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: blue a green dot, you know, inside linebacker has always had it since he's been in Baltimore.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: But I think his best defensive evolution has come with multi-safety safety and and guys who can destroy, guys who can really break up the game and really do it kind of do it.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: But at owner's meetings,
- 39:15[SPEAKER_03]: As my buddy Jordan Rennon, I was watching him from ESPN.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: He made the move to actually get the full plate of breakfast and eat it while Harbaugh is talking.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_03]: So he's slamming a little bit of bacon.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_03]: My God.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, and Jordan was having breakfast with Harbaugh.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_03]: Jordan was actually having a good breakfast.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: at the coaches that that is a power move power move it's like when I did the story when the giants hired John Harbaugh I interviewed all the weight staff that waited on him and I was talking to the waiter who served them
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: and harbott orders off menu because there's an off menu special.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's a fish right that they flew in from Alaska or whatever.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: So then Chris Mera gets the same thing.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: He's like I'm having whatever you're having.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's like to all have a Sam Adams thing.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: The up Joe chains over there in the corner.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_03]: Possibly about to get boxed out of his job.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: And he orders a ribeye, ultimate power move.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like I don't give a shit.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_03]: What you guys are doing.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_03]: I'm getting a ribeye.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm hungry.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm having breakfast.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_03]: Good for Jordan.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: But what harboss said at this thing is that the offensive line is what he called a work in progress.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this team has taken so many swings at that position, Albert, and has just never been able to, I mean, even the years that I covered that team, even though super cool years, I'm, I, you know, here's what I'd be concerned with there.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: What I would be concerned with there is, so you have Andrew Thomas as your left tackle.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty much set, right?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: For now, okay.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: So, Germaine Illuminor, you just signed in about a three year, $30 million deal.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he sees himself as anything but a tackle.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: So, are you moving him to guard then?
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: And how do those pieces fit together?
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Or are you moving Maui, no, if you take him to guard?
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Cause I think you can play guard also.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: could you do a situation like that where Miami Guard eventually moved now?
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, Spencer Fano is another one where I mean, he can literally play all five positions, you know?
- 41:36[SPEAKER_03]: I, yes.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: So here's what I would.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: I, I don't have any information on this yet.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: I tend to think the Caleb Downs is such a perfect fit for John Harb that he's going to be tempted to do it.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: Five is high for safety, right?
- 41:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think Eric Barry was the last one to go that high.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: Is that right?
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: Am I wrong about that?
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's been, like I think if you look at the history of it, it's really crazy.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and then Eric Barry was the highest since Eric Turner in like 91 or 92, you can look that up while I'm talking if you want.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure it's not that hard to find, but it's rare that a safety goes that high.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing is they completely, like John Harbour was part of completely overhauling the Ravens defense in 2018.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was when when they promoted William Martindale, they deem peas and walked away.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: He eventually went to go join, you know, Mike Brable who played for him in Tennessee.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so when when when they promoted Wink, they were like, we're going to re-work what we do defensively.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: And the whole idea was we want to play offense.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: We want to play defense like everybody plays offense, where we dictate the terms.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_02]: And the key to that was having the safety with an off the charts football IQ.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that was Eric Weddle for them.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: So it was Eric Weddle.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: Then it became Kyle Hamilton.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I think both those guys allowed them to become so flexible, defensively, and do so many things defensively, it unlocked schematically what John Harbaugh and Wink Martin Day wanted to create.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: That of course evolves because my McDonald's defense, you know, where you have, um, you have, you know, Nicki Minaj worry playing that role now as a young player in Seattle.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: We saw the difference he made.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: And Jesse Mentor is there for that.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: And Jesse Mentor, of course, had Darwin James in L.A.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's that guy.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: Now he's back with Kyle Hamilton and Baltimore.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I just wonder what the Nard Wilson there is the defensive coordinator who's from that tree.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like, do they look at it and say,
- 43:53[SPEAKER_02]: Caleb downs that's high, but his football IQ is off the charts.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: This guy is going to be playing six or seven pro bowls in the course of his career.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: And like, let's just swallow hard, even though it's a little high to be taking a safety.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: Let's swallow hard and understand that this is a guy who can unlock what we want to be defensively.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just theoretical at this point.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that they'll take him or anything like that, but I like I man,
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: I, I would be surprised if John Arbaud did not like really, really like, scaled down.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_03]: You're making this hard, but I'm, I'm going to stick to my guns here.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: No, you know, okay.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: Now we know.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_03]: I, I, I, I, it's a problem that is Albert, a quarter century in the making.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_03]: They have to fix it.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: So now I'm, I'm not a brown.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, yeah, I'm not a brown.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's a brown.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's a brown.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go Spencer Fano.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know what an offensive lineman?
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think like the idea here is again, he's a guy like you said a minute ago, a lot of political positional flexibility.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: They just need good lineman, you know.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: And like they are bringing in Zion Johnson and they paid
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: They paid a Tevin Jenkins, so they've gotten younger.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if they've gotten better in replacing Joel Bittonio and why I tell her.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: But obviously there's going to be a lot of moving parts without that group is to want Jones, the answer left tackle.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Fano, I think the interesting thing about him is it...
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: He gives you some flexibility to do it, whatever you need, you know, upfront.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_02]: So like, if you need him to play guard, you can play guard.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: If you need him to play tackle, you can play tackle.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I know some people feel like he does project athletically, or if you wanted to plan the left tackle, that wouldn't be a huge problem for him.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: So like I just think Fano is a, I think he's just a logical pick for the Browns.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: you know, yeah.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: And then that makes my job at number seven a lot easier, right?
- 46:03[SPEAKER_03]: Sunny styles Ohio state, um, you've Adam Peters, you know, who has seen the the blessings that Fred Warner has given that, uh, you know, his franchise.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: Dan Quinn needs guys.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: He needs dudes on that defense, right?
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: And they've spent the offseason trying to remake it.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think that one is as much of a tap in as possible, but with the acknowledgement that now you have down, it's just kind of sitting there and it's number eight and it's getting interesting.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: Albert, and it's back to you.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so, see, the same thing needs all over the place.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: And like,
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm tempted.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna go ahead and answer our delay.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, okay.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I just think they have knees all over the place.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: They have, so they have their tackles, right?
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: In Fwaga and Banks, they've drafted highly the last couple of years.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: I thought about going with another receiver there.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: And like do you look at Carnell Tate there?
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: They're gonna pay a lot of A, or they're trying to pay a lot of A.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_02]: You went and you got Travis Etchian, Atchian, I'm now uncomfortable about this, but I'm just gonna let you say it from now on.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: And you do have a need for an edgerusher, Cam Jordan still a free agent.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: I just,
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: I look at that and I'm like, is that too high for Ruben Dane who's a really great football player?
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, I was talking with someone last night who was like, I asked about the armline thing.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: And she said, like, is there, is there someone you can look at who is also an exception in that way?
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, you know, there kind of isn't, and that's the problem.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think about like where,
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Kellen Moore's background is and like, I mean, you know, he's been in some places where they draft on traits, you know, and Philly being one of them.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I just I don't know, like, like, here's the thing about room main.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: I really like Ruben Dane is a football player.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_02]: I really really like Ruben Dane is a football player.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: I really really like Ruben Dane is a football player.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think what people don't realize is they just look at the sack numbers right and he kicked Ohio states ask by the way in the one home.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_02]: What I worry about and I think about this with Brandon Staley's defense specifically is he just a third down player for in that defense right and I think that's what people need to look at when they look at these guys it's not like it's not
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: you aren't going to change your scheme for every player you get like there is the the element of like you have to fit your scheme to your players but you can't just change your scheme for 11 different guys you know what I mean like and so like I look at that scheme and it's like is Ruben Bane just a designated pass for us or in that scheme.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: Can you play him on the edge when you're asking him to like he's setting hard edges and forcing the run inside like can he be that guy and with the armaling thing I think there's a serious question about like whether or not you can do that and it doesn't mean he's not a tough guy or doesn't mean you can't play the run doesn't mean any of that you know
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: Um, he's another one of these guys where I think for in certain schemes, you need to have a plan for him and so like I think delaying is the opposite of that, you know, Dwayne like maybe he only has one year of elite tape, but like he has all the physical traits that you want in a corner, so I'm going to take him there number eight.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_03]: That's who I wanted it.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_03]: In my 32 bold predictions post Super Bowl, I had the Bengals taking Mansour Delane.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so I really liked it.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_03]: I was hoping that he would hang on there.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_03]: But nine Chiefs, I'm not going to make this any more complicated than it needs to be.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: We're going Caleb Downs here.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_03]: If you look at Kansas City's defensive secondary, I mean, they lost a lot of talent this
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, even, I mean, Leo Schnell, I mean, it's a linebacker, but it's one of those guys that can cover in space and can create certain mismatches for you, right?
- 50:32[SPEAKER_03]: And so Steve Spagnolo, one of his great, I guess intellectual.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: additions to like the football axicon where those multi-safety looks with the giants.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_03]: He understands what you can do at that position and you have a talent that's just so good Albert that I think it probably outweighs.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: your desire to, I mean, Chiefs fans are always going to just say, like, more receivers for my homes, more receivers for my homes.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_03]: But like, I don't under, I don't think that that's necessarily, this is not, this doesn't strike me as that kind of draft, I don't know, I couldn't get wrong.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm not going, I'm not going Jordan Tyson here, I'm not going Carnell Tate here, I'm not going McCye Lemmon here, you know, I'm, I'm going to give him a defensive
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, he just made things really tough on me because that was I thought down I think that's down's floor right I think I think I think if he's there for the bangles I think down's 10 is the 10 is the farthest he falls right I think so so with downs off the board then you know I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do and then I'm going to tell you what I was very tempted to do okay I'm going to go to your mind McCoy.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_02]: This is very much a, I'd say, value pick as far as just, you know, looking at what the position with the position is and what you're looking to get out of the position in the high end.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: Now with McCoy the problem is he hasn't played in such a long time.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: Got that knee injury.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think he missed all this all last year, yeah.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, again, like this is another guy that I, when I look at my notes here, it's,
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, before the injury, like there was risk, but like him and his or I'm talking about man coverage, one A, one B, they're both right there.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's raw, but like if you can teach the position, which I think Al Golden can teach the position, this is a guy who can play for you, quickly a man coverage and develop as a zone corner.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: Very, very, very, very talented.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I was tempted to do here?
- 52:53[SPEAKER_02]: Hit me.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: Cedique.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, yeah, which would be really fricking super charge in that offense.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_02]: The Penn State Guard, I think, might be in play here, too.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_03]: Was that, um, this is a class of names, man.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, I own, I think, all right, like it's, it's, um, Vega is his nickname.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: The full name, which I'm assuming he's poly, like, the full name is much more difficult.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm a Vega.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think alive a Vega.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_02]: I own dude.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_02]: He buries people.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_02]: He is like, you know, so Paris.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_02]: I heard him compare to that really got me excited with Tyler Booker was that he is just like a mall or that way.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so like I think he would be a consideration for the like now it's tough to take guard that high, right?
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: But like I do, it does feel to me the way people talk about him like he's a little bit more of this
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: like just a safe pick, you know what I mean?
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're going to get a guy who's going to beat the crap out of people.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: Really good character, really smart, just everything that you want.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_02]: And Booker, I think Booker was a really safe pick for the Cowboys last year.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think I own as that same sort of guy.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I own would be a consideration for me here.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_02]: Sadig just because I mean the idea of having Sadig running down the middle of the field with with Jason Higgins on the outs.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: I like, you know, we can sit here and we can play, you know, theoretical's, right, with with a situation like this because it's not my money, right?
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not, yeah, I'm not, you know,
- 54:34[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I'm not someone who's in charge of of piloting the Bengals here and I'll get fired too Tobin if I'm not, but um, you know, this idea that like really the Bengals are built to They're like an old god.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: What was the team?
- 54:49[SPEAKER_03]: Um, he coached the next, but he coached the sons with like a marries Start of Meyer and um, they they would score like 120 points a game.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 54:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like it was
- 55:03[SPEAKER_02]: Mustache, right?
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: What was the name of that?
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: D. N. Tof.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: D. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: Martin was a Martin.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: Mike, Mike, D. N. Tony, Mike, D. D. N. Tony.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you, Shelby.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, it could be one of those things where if you're
- 55:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if you're Tobin, it's like, okay, listen, I could start chipping away at some of these things or we can just let it rip you know, I mean, and see what happens, but I mean, I mean, I mean, so to your point Albert, I mean, Joe Burrow has never had that elite game altering tight end that I think can probably create like,
- 55:47[SPEAKER_03]: I wrote it, but how do you cover them?
- 55:49[SPEAKER_03]: Right, that's the thing, because it's almost hard enough now.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_02]: to see if you were the chief and you could search the deep as a potential long-term calcium replacement because you have, like sediques one of these guys that like sort of requires a role because he's got, like, he's got almost like a Shannon Sharp build.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like, at tight end, so he's not like a traditional tight end.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_02]: But like, because the chiefs have played with calcium a certain way for so long, they almost have a role baked into their offense for CD, you know?
- 56:22[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I thought about it for the chiefs there.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_03]: I just thought it would be...
- 56:28[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I thought it would be too on the nose, right, because, okay, Kelsey's leaving now we're going to get this guy.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought it was interesting, too, because now we've left, you know, tape, Tyson, Lemon at receiver and sedique outside the top 10.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: So, like, you're looking at it now, and you have two corners in the top 10 of safety, and I'll fall in back or two tackles, a running back, two pass pressures in the quarterback.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_03]: Receivers and and this could be like it.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's like we're silver like you know what kind of heart there receivers this year too is at least perception is there's a ton of depth.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: So no could be teams is say like yeah, there's no Julio, there's no AJ green, there's no in a Calvin Johnson or Jamar Chase and so I I think it's definitely possible some teams are going to look at this and say well
- 57:23[SPEAKER_02]: Why don't we just take the past Russia or the safety or the corner now knowing like they're going to be good receivers available on day to Totally agree.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_03]: Receivers like scoring in basketball seem to happen in runs during the draft.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_03]: Alright, well, hey, we made a first go at it.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_03]: I am
- 57:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's one of those things where, if we nail it, I'm going to come back and I'm going to pop this thing.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_03]: If we don't nail it, I'm just going to ignore the fact that this is ever existed.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_03]: That is the way of the mock drafter.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm going to adopt that.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_03]: as we get deeper into this, but this class is a lot of fun.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_03]: There's some people to fall in love with.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_03]: I have my own little pet projects in this class and the mid rounds and the late rounds that I really like and we'll get into that as we go, but hey, we'll be back on Thursday, we're going.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_03]: 11 to 20, we're gonna get our heads in the books, we're gonna get you ready for the NFL draft.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_03]: And I promise, Ty Simpson's name isn't gonna come up in the next, though, that night.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's just kidding.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: See you next week, or this week.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
