Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today on this fine and slightly rainy Monday morning, I'm excited to talk to you guys about some of these weather patterns that we've been having, what's going on down there with the southern border with regards to beef imports and all that's going on that made headlines last night with Trump and Iran.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were up, though.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: They were up a dollar and twenty-eight cents at 81.90.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: As I quote the markets here live on the grain side of things, pop up our sponsor, Trade the News.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Or not Trade the News, excuse me.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: That's our other sponsor of the show.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: We'll get to them here in a bit.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Plus 500 T4 trading software.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It's what we use to trade and quote the markets every single day.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: As I look, new crop corn is going down just slightly in the early morning here at 533.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Nove beans are at 1281 and a half.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And dece Chicago wheat is at 760 and three-quarters.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Big kind of lots of volume over the weekend and an interesting move slightly downward this morning.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: We'll see if that continues.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Clearly, something's going on right now as I'm recording here live because wheat is trending way lower, and I'm sure there's something going on over there in the middle of the east.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: We'll be keeping you updated on that.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And Davis Michelson's afternoon ag squawk in the afternoon.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: He has a great slate of guests planned for this week.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: On the weather discussion, a first-class heat wave grips the central and southern U.S.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: for at least 10 days.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be 10 to 15 degrees above normal with consistent 90s and 100s record highs for that area.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And they already set record highs this weekend, and that pattern is just going to continue.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: The earlier northern plains and cornbelt flooding has slightly been reduced.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: The number of storms that they're gonna see this week has been dialed back just a little bit as the ridge rider system works south.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So giving up just a little bit of relief there.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Here are my corn thoughts for today.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: You know, we're kind of sitting in a turmoil spot.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Everyone's saying, well, we could see$6 corn.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Some people are saying that's the boy that cried wolf, this corn crop is just fine.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Early reports and some silage harvests say that tonnage is actually looking pretty good in areas where they decided to chop it.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Obviously, that's not a direct correlation, but it's something to look at.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And as we continue on here in the next couple weeks, I encourage you, regardless of where you sit, depending on your cash position, try and get some protection because we have the opportunity to do that right now before we get the combines in the field.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: The livestock market, a lot of the news has been surrounding the southern border.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Uh the Douglas, Arizona one was the was the first border opening to open.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And they've kind of been trickling them in.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: They say max capacity for that port is around 1,300 head a day.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: They're saying when they open Santa Teresa and Columbus, it's gonna go all the way up to, you know, just slightly below where we were before we closed the border.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands and I have talked about this a couple times.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: We're maybe scratching our head just a little bit at that because before uh we shut down the border, Mexico's cattle feeding wasn't near as advanced as the United States is.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: And in that time, all of those cattle have been fed out down there.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I don't think they have the supply to send to us that they once did because they're using more of it internally.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have to see and watch how this plays out.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: I think this chart, as that checkered line ticks up there, we'll see if it follows projections.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: This was the big headline that was catching everyone's eyes last night.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: The U.S.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: and Iran exchanged strikes for the first time since July as Trump threatens a strategic oil hub.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Trump extended his military threats against Iran to the Kong Island, Tehran's primary oil export hub.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: U.S.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island on Sunday, according to the U.S.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Central Command.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Iran's Revolutionary Guard responded with strikes on American bases in Jordan, a warning of increasingly forceful counter-attacks.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: As things escalate there, even if you're pro or you're against this kind of conflict that we have with Iran, if we need to let it be, or whether we need to push into them harder, at this point you just have to stay informed because what it does to oil affects all markets.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: A rising tide brings up ships, a falling tide brings up all ships, a choppy tide makes them all go in every which direction.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Right now, staying informed is incredibly important.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: The best way to do it, I'll give you two answers.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Go ahead and go on to our website at agbol.com and join our premium side.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Jim Leesmeyer puts out a ton of information.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: He's going to be going premium here before too long, but right now it's still free.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: We do these morning videos every day, but we have a morning summary.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: We have a morning conference call that solely focuses on cattle, but the morning summary is just a condensed, good one-page read to start your day to know what's going on.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: We have text alerts when there's big things that happen in the market.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to stay informed.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Another great way is our other sponsors I talked about earlier, Trade the News.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: They're a squawk service that plays in the background of your computer when there's something big that goes on.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: It shouts at you real quick hey, missile strikes in the Middle East.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Be aware of this.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: It's important right now to have information on your side.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to get into this week.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I think we have a great set of shows planned on both the premium and on the free side.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Davis has a great slate of guests, like I mentioned earlier.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to get into it.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching and thank you for listening.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I'm Jed Sidwell with AgBull Media.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: We're a financial channel that loves agriculture.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Have a great day.
