- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, after 53 episodes, I think I'm ready to go to a real Swahili restaurant. Lucas: That's a great idea. Today, let's learn exactly what to say at a restaurant. Luna: Perfect. So what's the first thing I need to say when I sit down? Lucas: You'll want to ask for the menu. In Swahili, that's 'Nataka menu'. Let's break it down: 'Nataka' means 'I want', and 'menu' is the same in Swahili. Luna: Nataka menu. Lucas: Exactly. Now try it a bit slower: na ta ka menu. Luna: Nataka menu. Lucas: Perfect. Now, once you have the menu, you want to order food. The phrase is 'Nataka kula'. 'Kula' means 'to eat', so 'Nataka kula' is 'I want to eat'. Luna: Nataka kula. Lucas: Good. You can also say 'Nataka' plus the specific food. But for now, 'Nataka kula' works great. Luna: What if the food is good? How do I compliment it? Lucas: You can say 'Chakula kitamu'. 'Chakula' means 'food', 'kitamu' means 'delicious'. So 'Chakula kitamu'. Luna: Chakula kitamu. Lucas: Yes. And when you're done and want the bill, say 'Bili tafadhali'. 'Bili' is 'bill', 'tafadhali' is 'please'. Luna: Bili tafadhali. Lucas: Let's practice a little scene. I'll be the waiter, you're the customer. I come to your table. Lucas: Karibu. Unataka nini? Luna: Uhh, Nataka menu. Lucas: Hiki ndicho menu. Luna: Asante.... Nataka kula. Lucas: Sawa. Chakula kitamu. Luna: Oh, so you say 'chakula kitamu' when you bring the food? Lucas: Exactly. Or you can say it after tasting. Now, after the meal, you ask for the bill. Luna: Bili tafadhali. Lucas: Perfect. Let's go through all four phrases one more time. Repeat after me: Nataka menu. Luna: Nataka menu. Lucas: Nataka kula. Luna: Nataka kula. Lucas: Chakula kitamu. Luna: Chakula kitamu. Lucas: Bili tafadhali. Luna: Bili tafadhali. Lucas: Amazing. You're ready for a Swahili restaurant. Luna: I feel like I could go right now. Thanks Lucas. And thanks to Fexingo for making this possible. Lucas: Remember to practice these phrases. See you next time on Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Luna: Bye!
