Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You just heard the news. Now you'll find out what
- 0:03Speaker 1: it all means. It's Mark Simone on 710WOR.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hey, well, it's a beautiful day today. Wednesday, beautiful. Tomorrow, rain.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Got a lot to get to today. A lot of
- 0:18Speaker 2: Dolly Parton talk and look back and a lot of
- 0:20Speaker 2: memories and get to that. And we'll get to last night.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Big victory for Republicans for what they call MAGA. Big victory.
- 0:30Speaker 2: We'll get to Bruce Blakeman and Kathy Hochul. Hochul's got
- 0:34Speaker 2: some problems, some big problems, and it's only getting worse
- 0:36Speaker 2: for her. We'll get to all of that. We'll get
- 0:39Speaker 2: to Hillary Clinton. I think she's running in 2028. She
- 0:44Speaker 2: made some very surprising comments. Anyway, we'll get to all
- 0:48Speaker 2: of that. Coming up, we'll get to the battle with
- 0:51Speaker 2: Canada and a whole lot more. Dolly Parton in a second.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Last night, Darlene Graham, sister of Lindsey Graham, won And
- 1:00Speaker 2: one big, it was supposed to be really tight. It
- 1:02Speaker 2: wasn't that tight. President Trump was down there campaigning for her.
- 1:08Speaker 2: He put in almost a million dollars into her campaign.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You know, he's got a $ 400 million war chest he
- 1:14Speaker 2: can use in the midterms. But one thing about these
- 1:18Speaker 2: primary races, when President Trump goes down there or the
- 1:23Speaker 2: RNC or the MAGA donut, when they go down there,
- 1:26Speaker 2: And it's a good trial test run for whatever they
- 1:29Speaker 2: want to do in the midterms. So you've got to
- 1:33Speaker 2: be on your game for the midterm elections. And they're
- 1:35Speaker 2: testing stuff out. They're road testing it in these primary races.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And they sent an operation down there to work phone
- 1:43Speaker 2: banks to, you know, what they call the ground game
- 1:46Speaker 2: for Darlene Graham. And it worked. So then they go
- 1:48Speaker 2: over it. They see exactly what worked, what didn't, what
- 1:51Speaker 2: messages worked, what ads worked, what texts worked, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: fine-tuning that ground game. So more and more of these races,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and then they're ready to go for the midterms. Big
- 2:02Speaker 2: victory last night. Darlene Graham's sister, Lindsey Graham, wins.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Mr.
- 2:06Speaker 4: President, Lindsey truly loved you and viewed you as one
- 2:10Speaker 4: of his closest friends. I appreciate that bond and appreciate
- 2:14Speaker 4: all that you've done for our country. Our victory would
- 2:18Speaker 4: not have been possible without you.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so now she had that big gaffe in the debate.
- 2:25Speaker 2: where she was asked about Taiwan, and she said, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: I don't know anything about foreign policy. I just don't know.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It sounded terrible, but she handled it so well in
- 2:36Speaker 2: the days afterwards, saying, look, I'm not a professional politician.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'm a real, honest person, and that registered with a
- 2:43Speaker 2: lot of people. And she's running against Norman, who's a
- 2:48Speaker 2: real professional career politician, and Ralph Norman, been there forever,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and she kept using this I've done more in 20
- 2:56Speaker 2: days than he's done in 20 years. And that kind
- 2:58Speaker 2: of stuff registers. People don't like professional politicians. So it
- 3:02Speaker 2: was a great victory for her.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Thank you, Lindsay, for your service to South Carolina and
- 3:07Speaker 4: to this country. It's just not the same without you here.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And of course, it was a lot of sentiment for
- 3:14Speaker 2: Lindsey Graham. Now, this Norman, Ralph Norman, never trust a
- 3:19Speaker 2: guy with two first names. That's an important rule in life.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Ralph Norman, again. Never trust a guy with two first names. Now,
- 3:28Speaker 2: he didn't know what hit him, and he's got to
- 3:30Speaker 2: figure out how to very quickly get on that Trump bandwagon.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And he can have a pretty good relationship with Trump,
- 3:38Speaker 2: but he's got to get back in there. But, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: the president got involved. He has that right.
- 3:41Speaker 5: That's his prerogative.
- 3:43Speaker 6: As I told, I never, well, y'all, his policies are good.
- 3:49Speaker 5: I never understood why he got in this race to beat.
- 3:54Speaker 5: You know, but it is what it is, and I'll
- 3:58Speaker 5: accept it.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I don't know the guy, but he sounds a little
- 4:01Speaker 2: wormy to me. Well, you know, that sounds like that
- 4:05Speaker 2: southern sheriff kind of guy you don't trust.
- 4:08Speaker 5: We did this for service, and I hate it for
- 4:10Speaker 5: the state. But the public, South Carolina, made the decision.
- 4:16Speaker 5: We had $ 8 million spent against us. We couldn't come
- 4:21Speaker 5: up with that much money.
- 4:22Speaker 7: Well.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Now, see, the other problem Norman had, he was being
- 4:24Speaker 2: backed by Nikki Haley, who everybody hates. Nobody can stand
- 4:28Speaker 2: Nikki Haley. Big enemy of President Trump. So the Nikki
- 4:31Speaker 2: Haley backing didn't help. The sincere, genuine, warm sort of
- 4:37Speaker 2: darling grandma was great. So it was a great victory
- 4:40Speaker 2: last night for President Trump. So Dolly Parton, I guess
- 4:45Speaker 2: we got the word about 2 o'clock, 2.15. It was
- 4:50Speaker 2: just shocking. She had power. Sad she had some medical troubles.
- 4:54Speaker 2: We didn't realize it was cancer and that it was
- 4:56Speaker 2: very serious. But nobody thought she'd pass away that fast.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And even her own family said they just weren't expecting this.
- 5:02Speaker 2: They were caught off guard. You know, this is kind
- 5:06Speaker 2: of gruesome, but when I know somebody's going to die,
- 5:08Speaker 2: I start looking, because I have a million interviews with everybody,
- 5:12Speaker 2: I start looking for the interview with them. And if somebody,
- 5:16Speaker 2: it's their 100th birthday, you know, I start going, let
- 5:19Speaker 2: me get this interview ready just in case. Because you've
- 5:21Speaker 2: got to dig through thousands of, recordings and find it.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So it never, in a million years, would have occurred
- 5:29Speaker 2: to me, let's go find the Dolly Parton interviews. It never,
- 5:32Speaker 2: I just never thought she would pass away. But she
- 5:35Speaker 2: had her, I think it was her nephew. This guy
- 5:37Speaker 2: was great. And she apparently had prepared for this. She
- 5:41Speaker 2: told the family exactly what she wanted said, what kind
- 5:44Speaker 2: of funeral she wanted. And the nephew, he was just great. Hey, everyone.
- 5:50Speaker 8: My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, And
- 5:53Speaker 8: I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the
- 5:56Speaker 8: passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis,
- 6:01Speaker 8: aunt granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.
- 6:05Speaker 8: This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago,
- 6:08Speaker 8: before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As
- 6:11Speaker 8: her head of security for more than two decades, a
- 6:14Speaker 8: role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined
- 6:16Speaker 8: the heaviness of this moment, but haven't truly felt it
- 6:19Speaker 8: until now.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah, this guy just sounded so wonderful. Like her, just warm,
- 6:24Speaker 2: absolutely genuine, sincere. You know, one thing about Dolly Parton,
- 6:27Speaker 2: it was a great success story, but it was a
- 6:29Speaker 2: real American story. Growing up in a one-room cabin and
- 6:34Speaker 2: becoming the biggest star possible. But the nephew was great.
- 6:38Speaker 8: Dolly has lived in the light and is in the
- 6:41Speaker 8: arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl. her parents, and
- 6:44Speaker 8: countless others who have watched her and longed for her
- 6:47Speaker 8: to meet them in the heavens. She has always been
- 6:50Speaker 8: on your television, your record player, your CD, and on
- 6:53Speaker 8: your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family
- 6:56Speaker 8: whether you liked it or not. Our family and the
- 6:59Speaker 8: team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently
- 7:02Speaker 8: to ensure her spirit will live with us forever. Dolly
- 7:05Speaker 8: called me and said she wants to rest in a
- 7:07Speaker 8: beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing
- 7:10Speaker 8: heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable And have
- 7:13Speaker 8: some rest.
- 7:15Speaker 2: That's something. She would dress normally when no one was
- 7:20Speaker 2: going to see her. But it was television. It was
- 7:22Speaker 2: an appearance. It was out in public. She wore all
- 7:26Speaker 2: that rhinestone. It was just constant rhinestone. And she had
- 7:29Speaker 2: these things that were, I don't even know how you
- 7:31Speaker 2: put them on. I mean, they were the most complicated
- 7:33Speaker 2: with this going this way and that way and rhinestones
- 7:36Speaker 2: and this and that. You know, I was at Fox.
- 7:39Speaker 2: There's a nice sound technician that puts the microphone on
- 7:43Speaker 2: you before you go on the air. She comes in, uh,
- 7:46Speaker 2: sticks her hand in your jacket and puts the backpack
- 7:49Speaker 2: on your belt. And she just sticks her hand in
- 7:52Speaker 2: your coat. And, uh, I said, do you ever have
- 7:54Speaker 2: Dolly Parton? Oh yeah. She was a guest here many times.
- 7:56Speaker 2: How'd you put the microphone on her with that? What
- 7:58Speaker 2: she was wearing. And she said, I just looked at
- 8:02Speaker 2: all the rhinestone and this, and I didn't know where
- 8:04Speaker 2: the hell to put the microphone in the, her staff
- 8:06Speaker 2: guy obviously knew this is a constant problem and said, here,
- 8:09Speaker 2: just give it to me. I know how to put
- 8:10Speaker 2: it on. So, She just had this whole image of
- 8:15Speaker 2: the rhinestone, the stuff, the hair, all of this. Listen
- 8:22Speaker 2: to this quote from her.
- 8:23Speaker 6: I want people to know there's some brains beneath the
- 8:25Speaker 6: wig and a heart beneath the boobs. And I think
- 8:28Speaker 6: people are beginning to see that.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So the boobs were, when she first got famous, she
- 8:34Speaker 2: said the boobs were a constant source of jokes. Lots
- 8:39Speaker 2: and lots of jokes. There were Dolly Parton jokes everywhere
- 8:41Speaker 2: about that. And then the big moment was one night
- 8:44Speaker 2: she's on with Johnny Carson. This is when she first
- 8:46Speaker 2: became a star. And it was a memorable moment for
- 8:50Speaker 2: Johnny Carson. This would play on the Best Of show
- 8:52Speaker 2: every year.
- 8:53Speaker 9: Have you always been rather zoftic?
- 8:56Speaker 6: What would they call that where you grew up in Tennessee?
- 9:00Speaker 9: I can't say.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Healthy?
- 9:02Speaker 10: Healthy, I guess.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Blues and me. What did you ask me just before that? Oh, well, yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 6: I've always been pretty well-blessed. People are always asking if
- 9:15Speaker 6: they're real.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Oh, I would never. I would never, you see. No,
- 9:18Speaker 2: you don't have to ask.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I would not.
- 9:20Speaker 6: I'll tell you what.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I have certain guidelines.
- 9:26Speaker 2: But I would give about a year's pay to peek
- 9:28Speaker 2: under there. Big memorable moment in her career. Now, the music,
- 9:38Speaker 2: of course. You know, and the amazing thing is you
- 9:40Speaker 2: talk to really young people, even kids, they all know
- 9:43Speaker 2: her music. The movie, 9 to 5, still running all
- 9:47Speaker 2: over the place. It was a great, great film. The song,
- 9:51Speaker 2: what a great song. And in the early days of
- 9:55Speaker 2: cable and all the movie channels, this was the movie
- 9:58Speaker 2: they ran all the time. So I'll younger generation saw
- 10:01Speaker 2: it and people still watch. It's an incredible movie because
- 10:05Speaker 2: it's so outdated in a wonderful way. It's about sexual harassment.
- 10:08Speaker 2: They got the, it was Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda
- 10:12Speaker 2: and Dolly Parton. And they're working for, was it Dabney Coleman?
- 10:15Speaker 2: Who's a great guy in real life, but in the movie,
- 10:17Speaker 2: the nastiest, most awful boss. And he was, sexually harassing
- 10:21Speaker 2: them left and right. And it was a great script.
- 10:25Speaker 2: In fact, the greatest line, one of Dolly Parton's greatest
- 10:28Speaker 2: movie line, and one of the greatest lines ever in
- 10:31Speaker 2: a movie, was her finally standing up and to the boss,
- 10:35Speaker 2: confronting him about all the sexual harassment. Listen to this
- 10:38Speaker 2: great line.
- 10:38Speaker 10: Look, I got a gun out there in my purse
- 10:41Speaker 10: and up to now I've been forgiven and forgetting because
- 10:43Speaker 10: of the way I was brought up.
- 10:44Speaker 11: But I'll tell you one thing.
- 10:45Speaker 10: If you ever say another word about me or make
- 10:47Speaker 10: another indecent proposal, I'm going to get that gun of
- 10:50Speaker 10: mine and I'm going to change you from a rooster
- 10:52Speaker 10: to a hand with one shot.
- 10:56Speaker 2: But, uh, she was an amazing, amazing person. And, uh,
- 11:01Speaker 2: Did a lot of interviews and talked a lot. She
- 11:03Speaker 2: was a very smart woman. She was a great businesswoman,
- 11:06Speaker 2: very generous, great philanthropist.
- 11:09Speaker 6: For me, the Dolly Parton star is accomplishing every possible
- 11:12Speaker 6: thing that I can. I want to mean something. I
- 11:15Speaker 6: don't want to just be some joke. I don't want
- 11:17Speaker 6: to be the all-American joke, you know, just with the
- 11:19Speaker 6: boobs and the hair and the tight belts or whatever.
- 11:23Speaker 6: I want to be a meaningful, artistic person.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You can't find anybody anywhere. Anybody, any co-star, anybody that
- 11:32Speaker 2: ever worked with her, anybody that'll ever say a bad
- 11:34Speaker 2: word about her. There's no bad anything. She's one of
- 11:36Speaker 2: the handful of people, celebrities, that are exactly the same
- 11:40Speaker 2: off the air as on the air.
- 11:41Speaker 6: You know, I've worked hard and I had a lot
- 11:43Speaker 6: of dreams. I've worked not only for myself but for
- 11:45Speaker 6: other people. And it's like now I want to enjoy,
- 11:50Speaker 6: really enjoy the more simple things rather than just going
- 11:54Speaker 6: full blast.
- 11:55Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And so many great songs. And Kenny Rogers, the duets,
- 12:00Speaker 2: all that stuff. All the movies with Sylvester Stallone, of course,
- 12:05Speaker 2: all the great co-stars. Anyway, we'll get back to Dolly Parton.
- 12:08Speaker 2: We'll talk about her throughout the program. An amazing, amazing
- 12:12Speaker 2: American story. And, hey, Bruce Blakeman press conference today, 2 o'clock.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Now watch this, because Kathy Hochul has got some problems,
- 12:22Speaker 2: and they're only going to mount. Her crazy, she's trying
- 12:26Speaker 2: to walk this tightrope. between being a left-wing Mamdani sort
- 12:31Speaker 2: of extremist and a moderate Democrat. She's not either. Nobody
- 12:36Speaker 2: knows what she is. It's just a professional politician pretending.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And she's not that skilled a politician to walk this tightrope.
- 12:45Speaker 2: She's trying to hang on to the Mamdani crowd. Hopefully,
- 12:49Speaker 2: you got to win a lot of New York. You
- 12:51Speaker 2: got to win 35% of New York to win the state.
- 12:55Speaker 2: So she's trying to do that, but you're going to
- 12:57Speaker 2: lose upstate. So the problem is ICE, which is just
- 13:00Speaker 2: a rock solid, good, normal law enforcement agency. It's a
- 13:05Speaker 2: task force that's arresting people who have committed crimes. In
- 13:07Speaker 2: this case, the crime would be illegal alien. And specifically
- 13:11Speaker 2: now they're going after criminals, illegals who are committing crimes.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So you couldn't have a better cause, a better thing,
- 13:18Speaker 2: but she's trying to score points with the crazy left wing.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So she's, She and their crazy legislature, they got a
- 13:27Speaker 2: law now that your locals are not allowed to cooperate
- 13:30Speaker 2: with ICE. Can you imagine that? Imagine passing a law,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you're not allowed to cooperate with the FBI. Not allowed
- 13:36Speaker 2: to cooperate with ICE. So, of course, this is crazy.
- 13:41Speaker 2: It's insane. It's irrational. It's illogical. Now, a number of
- 13:44Speaker 2: counties are getting together and they're suing because they want
- 13:48Speaker 2: to cooperate with ICE. They want illegal criminals, robbers, rapists,
- 13:51Speaker 2: gang members. murderers they want them picked up and taken
- 13:55Speaker 2: out of their territory, out of their county. Nobody's better
- 13:59Speaker 2: at this than Bruce Blakeman. Blakeman has been so good
- 14:02Speaker 2: about this. He set up a whole task force to
- 14:05Speaker 2: help ICE, give them whatever they need. Listen to this.
- 14:09Speaker 12: We have the most comprehensive agreement with ICE in the
- 14:11Speaker 12: United States. I've dedicated 50 jail cells to ICE. And
- 14:15Speaker 12: I've dedicated 10 detectives from our Nassau County Police Department
- 14:19Speaker 12: to ICE. And we're doing it because we want to
- 14:21Speaker 12: make our community safer. And we've done that. We have
- 14:24Speaker 12: the safest county in America, according to U.S.
- 14:26Speaker 2: News & World Report. Yeah, and he's right. It's a
- 14:29Speaker 2: logical thing to do. I'd say there's a couple of
- 14:31Speaker 2: gang members, dangerous criminals, illegals. ICE is going to come
- 14:34Speaker 2: in and arrest them and take them away. If you
- 14:38Speaker 2: let the local police help out, lend them jail cells,
- 14:40Speaker 2: lend them some local cops, they can send five guys
- 14:44Speaker 2: in to do it. If you refuse to cooperate with ICE,
- 14:47Speaker 2: they got to send 50 guys in to do it.
- 14:49Speaker 2: They need a whole big infrastructure to help these guys
- 14:53Speaker 2: make the arrest. And there's nothing Kathy Oka can do
- 14:57Speaker 2: legally to stop them from doing that. It's federal law.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Federal law always supersedes local law. So she's crazy. This
- 15:05Speaker 2: is going to blow up in her face. She's Sticking
- 15:08Speaker 2: her guns on this.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Local police will assist ICE only if a real crime
- 15:13Speaker 3: has been committed. But on civil immigration matters, ICE is
- 15:18Speaker 3: on their own. Let me be clear. Any police department
- 15:22Speaker 3: or sheriff's office that disobeys this law, that maintains any
- 15:27Speaker 3: agreement with ICE, will face legal action.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Okay, this is going to blow up in her face.
- 15:33Speaker 2: They're going to use this against me. Just this line.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Local police will assist ICE... only if a real crime
- 15:38Speaker 3: has been committed.
- 15:40Speaker 2: You're going to see that in a lot of commercials.
- 15:41Speaker 2: This left-wing kook doesn't believe breaking into the country, coming
- 15:47Speaker 2: here illegally, doesn't believe that's actually a crime. She thinks
- 15:50Speaker 2: that's not illegal. So you're going to see that used
- 15:53Speaker 2: against her a lot. Hey, we'll get back to this.
- 15:55Speaker 2: We'll get back to Dolly Parton. We'll get to the
- 15:57Speaker 2: Trump battle with Canada that really heated up yesterday. And
- 16:01Speaker 2: a lot more just ahead. Mark Simone here, 9 to noon.
- 16:04Speaker 2: It's three hours every day. 9 to noon here on 710WOR.
- 16:09Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show. Now 9 till noon weekdays.
- 16:14Speaker 11: On 710WOR.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Hey, well, this just breaking. You know that a bunch
- 16:23Speaker 2: of attorney generals of various states got together and they
- 16:25Speaker 2: were suing Facebook, Instagram. That's Meta. The company is Meta. Big,
- 16:30Speaker 2: massive lawsuit accusing them of deliberately setting the algorithm to
- 16:35Speaker 2: try to addict people and that it was particularly effective
- 16:39Speaker 2: with kids, easily impressionable kids were getting addicted. Now, I
- 16:43Speaker 2: didn't understand this lawsuit because every business does that. Radio, television,
- 16:48Speaker 2: we all do that. We lay out the program with
- 16:52Speaker 2: little ways of keeping you listening longer. That's the whole idea.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Every business does that. And when they build the supermarket,
- 16:59Speaker 2: they lay out where everything is to keep you in
- 17:02Speaker 2: there longer. You don't realize it, but a lot of
- 17:06Speaker 2: people just run in to get eggs or milk or something.
- 17:08Speaker 2: That's never in the front. You notice it's always in
- 17:11Speaker 2: the furthest, in the back of the supermarket. That's to
- 17:14Speaker 2: make sure you have to go through the whole supermarket
- 17:18Speaker 2: so you get something else. You ever been to Stu Leonard's?
- 17:21Speaker 2: It's great. One of the great supermarkets in the world.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Stu Leonard's in Norwalk. Well, they're all over the place, but-
- 17:28Speaker 2: It's a wonderful supermarket, but it's a maze. When you
- 17:30Speaker 2: walk in there and start going around, you can't get out.
- 17:32Speaker 2: You've got to go all the way through to the end.
- 17:34Speaker 2: It's brilliant. Same thing. That's what Meta does. They set
- 17:38Speaker 2: the algorithm to keep you watching. So if you're watching,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you like something, some post, and you click on it, well,
- 17:45Speaker 2: it just immediately shows you 20 more just like it.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So I don't know how they could lose this lawsuit.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You could probably just argue that, but I guess children
- 17:55Speaker 2: are getting addicted. But these attorneys general, a number of
- 18:00Speaker 2: states got together. It was a massive lawsuit. And this
- 18:04Speaker 2: just breaking. It just happened. Meta is settling the lawsuit.
- 18:07Speaker 2: They're not going to continue the lawsuit. They want to
- 18:09Speaker 2: settle out of court. They'll pay to settle it. We're
- 18:14Speaker 2: getting word that they'll pay $ 13 billion. $ 13 billion to
- 18:18Speaker 2: give you. An idea of how well Meta does give
- 18:26Speaker 2: you an idea of how wealthy these tech companies are.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Mark Zuckerberg, probably the lawyers are talking to him, and
- 18:33Speaker 2: they're in the conference room, and they're going over the case,
- 18:36Speaker 2: and he goes, well, hey, I just settled it. What
- 18:39Speaker 2: is it, $ 13 billion? Hey, I just settled it. $ 13
- 18:42Speaker 2: billion is pocket change to them. Absolutely nothing. And these attorney,
- 18:47Speaker 2: you know, if you're an attorney general, you're just a politician.
- 18:49Speaker 2: If you can walk away with a big victory. You'll
- 18:52Speaker 2: take it. You'll take it. Even if it's not the
- 18:54Speaker 2: right thing to do, you'll take a victory. It sounds good. Oh,
- 18:58Speaker 2: and now I actually made a pretty good deal. It's
- 19:00Speaker 2: 13 billion, 7% paid now. And then they've worked out
- 19:06Speaker 2: a payment plan, but that's the end of that lawsuit.
- 19:09Speaker 2: So it's good news for everybody. Just, just get rid
- 19:14Speaker 2: of it that way. So, hey, the fight with Canada
- 19:18Speaker 2: is going on. There's the, Believe it or not, each province,
- 19:21Speaker 2: you know, there's Ontario, there's Quebec, these provinces, each one
- 19:26Speaker 2: has a premier. And there's a guy named Ford who's
- 19:31Speaker 2: the premier of Ontario. You couldn't sound more socialist than
- 19:38Speaker 2: a premier. So apparently he and Trump went at it yesterday.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Remember Ford had that brother Rob Ford? He was that
- 19:47Speaker 2: Canadian politician who got in all kinds of scandal. He
- 19:49Speaker 2: was quite the oddball, weird, strange guy. I guess Trump
- 19:52Speaker 2: brought him up. Ford did not like that. Uh, they
- 19:55Speaker 2: got into a clash.
- 19:56Speaker 9: We're going to fight with everything we have. And, uh,
- 19:59Speaker 9: you know, something, I have more courage, more brains in
- 20:02Speaker 9: my baby toe than he has in his whole body.
- 20:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:06Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Uh, I know you're saying it's got a kind of
- 20:09Speaker 2: a Tim Waltz quality to him. He's got that Tim
- 20:11Speaker 2: Waltz kind of sound to him. Don't worry. Trump has
- 20:14Speaker 2: plenty of courage. Remember when that bullet hit him and
- 20:17Speaker 2: he just jumped up and pumped his fist? That's pretty courageous.
- 20:20Speaker 2: So Ford actually kind of used it. I think he
- 20:24Speaker 2: wants to run for prime minister of Canada. So that's
- 20:27Speaker 2: why he's playing this up. He's treating us worse than
- 20:30Speaker 2: the communist China. And I just want to make.
- 20:33Speaker 9: Sure that we have a fair deal for both sides
- 20:35Speaker 9: because right now, It's hurting American workers and it's hurting
- 20:39Speaker 9: Canadian workers. We're the number one customer in the world
- 20:42Speaker 9: to the U.S.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but if everything went wrong with our relationship with Canada,
- 20:49Speaker 2: we'd be just fine. It's Canada. The whole economy would
- 20:52Speaker 2: collapse without America cooperating. And Ford knows. Things got a
- 20:56Speaker 2: little heated.
- 20:57Speaker 9: It got a little personal yesterday between the president and myself.
- 21:01Speaker 9: But I want to make a deal, a good deal
- 21:03Speaker 9: for the American people, a good deal for the Canadians.
- 21:06Speaker 9: And we're the two greatest countries in the world. We're
- 21:09Speaker 9: each other's number one customer. And it's time to get
- 21:12Speaker 9: back to the table and let's negotiate a fair deal.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Ah, you see, there you go. He's like Meta. You're
- 21:18Speaker 2: going to fight this to the end. Okay, we'll settle.
- 21:21Speaker 2: He's willing to settle. Meta settled for $ 13 billion. This
- 21:24Speaker 2: guy's got about $ 1. 50 to settle with, but they'll patch
- 21:28Speaker 2: it up. Hey, the Strait of Hormuz has been open
- 21:32Speaker 2: for months. Partially open. Partially open. southern corridor. So it's
- 21:36Speaker 2: been about 35, 40 percent open. But I think they're
- 21:41Speaker 2: about to open the whole thing because yesterday they cleared
- 21:45Speaker 2: the final mine out of there. You know, the problem
- 21:48Speaker 2: is the Iranians would fire rockets, missiles, drones from the shore.
- 21:54Speaker 2: But that's really easy to take care of. Now, the
- 21:57Speaker 2: other problem was they had put mines, a lot of
- 22:00Speaker 2: mines in in the bottom of the Strait of Hormuz,
- 22:02Speaker 2: but we have all kinds of, there were mine sweeping ships,
- 22:05Speaker 2: but now we got all these super high-tech mine detecting
- 22:09Speaker 2: drones and we can find the drone, they can find
- 22:12Speaker 2: the mines and then we can go in there and
- 22:14Speaker 2: get them out. It's a slow process, but they got
- 22:16Speaker 2: it done. It's now completely clean. The Strait of Hormuz
- 22:20Speaker 2: has no more mines in it. It's going to be
- 22:23Speaker 2: much easier to use. Now you say, well, they could
- 22:25Speaker 2: put them back. Not really. We got the Space Force
- 22:28Speaker 2: watching the Strait, watching everything. If they try to put
- 22:31Speaker 2: anything in there, we'll see it. There'll be zero tolerance.
- 22:34Speaker 2: So the Strait of Hormuz, we've gotten 400 tankers through
- 22:37Speaker 2: there in the last couple of months. That's a lot
- 22:39Speaker 2: of tankers. Nine million barrels a day coming through. So
- 22:42Speaker 2: they'll probably increase that to about 14, 15 million barrels
- 22:47Speaker 2: a day. Pre-war was 20 million barrels a day. So
- 22:51Speaker 2: it's partially open now, about 35% open. Expected to be
- 22:54Speaker 2: about 75% open within a week or two. Hey, we've
- 23:00Speaker 2: got a lot to get to. We'll get back to
- 23:02Speaker 2: Dolly Parton. We'll get to Hillary's crazy comments and more.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Coming up, it's Mark Simone here. 9 to noon every weekday.
- 23:10Speaker 2: 9 to noon on 710WOR. It's the Mark Simone Show.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Live from the WOR LifeVac studios.
- 23:19Speaker 11: Wow!
- 23:22Speaker 2: It's going to be a beautiful day today. It's going
- 23:23Speaker 2: to be a sunny day today. Rain tomorrow, but a
- 23:25Speaker 2: sunny day today. Don't forget, it's 9 to noon every day.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, the reason they were such a push to
- 23:30Speaker 2: expand this show to an extra hour is we do
- 23:34Speaker 2: very well with commercials. As you can hear, advertisers do
- 23:38Speaker 2: very well on this show. We've got a great, very, very,
- 23:41Speaker 2: very upscale sort of audience that they like. So couldn't
- 23:46Speaker 2: get all the commercials in in two hours. And we
- 23:49Speaker 2: had advertisers waiting to get on, and there was this
- 23:51Speaker 2: push to make it three hours. And we've done three hours.
- 23:55Speaker 2: And I said, are you sure you have enough advertisers
- 23:57Speaker 2: to fill three hours? Well, I think we've answered that question.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Listen to some of these breaks. Plenty of advertisers. But hey,
- 24:07Speaker 2: President Trump was a huge Dolly Parton fan. He really
- 24:11Speaker 2: loved Dolly Parton. He's a country music fan, but really
- 24:14Speaker 2: had a lot of respect for Dolly Parton, ordered all
- 24:18Speaker 2: The flags and all the U.S. government buildings all over America,
- 24:22Speaker 2: half staff. It started last night at 6 o'clock. And
- 24:26Speaker 2: expect him to come up with something, some sort of
- 24:30Speaker 2: big tribute to Dolly Parton that he'll want to do.
- 24:33Speaker 2: You know, she had this thing about politics. She wanted
- 24:36Speaker 2: nothing to do with politics. Just personally, and she also
- 24:40Speaker 2: knew career-wise, it was a very smart thing to stay
- 24:45Speaker 2: the hell away from politics. from politicians. That's why you
- 24:48Speaker 2: never see her with any politicians. There were a number
- 24:51Speaker 2: of times the Clintons wanted to do something with her.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Not a campaign rally, but just have her together with
- 24:58Speaker 2: the Clintons for something and they would take a picture.
- 25:01Speaker 2: She would avoid it. She just did not want to
- 25:05Speaker 2: have anything to do with politics. She loved President Trump,
- 25:07Speaker 2: but she stayed the hell away from him. Did not
- 25:10Speaker 2: want to be associated with anything political or any politicians.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Because she knew, career-wise... If you take a side, you'll
- 25:16Speaker 2: lose half your audience. Stephen Colbert, are you listening to this?
- 25:20Speaker 2: She knew it was smart to avoid anything political. Let's
- 25:26Speaker 2: take some calls. Let's go to beautiful Garden City, one
- 25:29Speaker 2: of the most beautiful suburbs in America. Let's go to
- 25:32Speaker 2: Keith in Garden City. Keith, how are you doing?
- 25:35Speaker 11: Pretty good, Mark. Thanks for taking my call. Love the
- 25:38Speaker 11: extra hour. Yes, sir. I was calling about the data centers.
- 25:43Speaker 11: Somebody told me that golf courses use more water than
- 25:46Speaker 11: data centers. And I don't know if you know any
- 25:49Speaker 11: truth to that. I have three golf courses in my
- 25:51Speaker 11: town and no shortage of water.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Garden City, you got the Garden City Country Club, the
- 25:56Speaker 2: golf club, that old club been there 100 years. You
- 25:58Speaker 2: got the Wyndham has a golf club, right? And what's
- 26:02Speaker 2: the other one?
- 26:05Speaker 11: The Cherry Valley.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Cherry Valley, that's right.
- 26:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:08Speaker 2: So I think Garden City would be good for a
- 26:10Speaker 2: data center. We'll put it right on 7th Street next
- 26:14Speaker 2: to Ivorone.
- 26:16Speaker 11: No, no.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Where Tony's Tacos are.
- 26:20Speaker 11: Maybe in that parking lot. You're making me hungry. You know,
- 26:27Speaker 11: the Chinese, they spent all this money convincing these people
- 26:30Speaker 11: that these data centers are bad. They do the same thing.
- 26:32Speaker 11: They back any candidate that's anti-mining because they want to
- 26:35Speaker 11: control all the minerals. And we as Americans, we fall
- 26:38Speaker 11: for these fake crises. I remember as a kid on
- 26:41Speaker 11: Long Island, they said aerosol cans were going to kill
- 26:45Speaker 11: the ozone layer. You know how many how many hairspray
- 26:47Speaker 11: cans were used up in the 80s on Long Island?
- 26:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 11: What do we use today? Aerosol cans are still here today.
- 26:54Speaker 2: No, you're right. And it's a very, very good point.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You know, there's always this is a democratic tactic. They
- 26:59Speaker 2: do this all the time. They've always done this. It's
- 27:01Speaker 2: the way they campaign. It's the way they run. Media
- 27:04Speaker 2: jumps in and helps them, too. They have to always
- 27:07Speaker 2: create a boogeyman, something they're fighting, a boogeyman. This whole
- 27:11Speaker 2: tactic started with the French Revolution. They did it then.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Ann Coulter wrote a book about it called Demonic. Is
- 27:17Speaker 2: she on later? Yeah, she's on later today. We'll ask
- 27:20Speaker 2: her about it. They always create this boogeyman that they're
- 27:23Speaker 2: battling against. It was nuclear plants before. Now it's data centers.
- 27:27Speaker 2: They've replaced the nuclear plants. And they always do this.
- 27:31Speaker 2: They're fighting the mega extremists. Nobody knows who the hell,
- 27:36Speaker 2: who are these MAGA extremists or the MAGA people? Nobody
- 27:39Speaker 2: knows who you're talking about. You remember, uh, every, every, uh, campaign,
- 27:43Speaker 2: the last one, it was, uh, the alt-right. Nobody knew
- 27:46Speaker 2: what the hell the alt-right was. And then at one
- 27:49Speaker 2: point it was QAnon, which was some chat group on
- 27:53Speaker 2: the internet, but they were battling QAnon and they were
- 27:56Speaker 2: always battling these different forces. Let's go to Paul Roslin,
- 28:00Speaker 2: another great suburb, Roslin, Long Island. Paul, how you doing?
- 28:03Speaker 7: Good morning, Mark. How are you?
- 28:05Speaker 2: Good.
- 28:06Speaker 7: Good. I just wanted to mention to you that Dolly
- 28:09Speaker 7: Parton was played tremendously on 106.7 many years ago.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Light FM?
- 28:17Speaker 7: Yeah. No, it wasn't Light FM. It was WKHK, Kick FM.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Oh, that's right. You know, it used to be a
- 28:24Speaker 2: country station, WKHK. And it was a country station. It
- 28:28Speaker 2: was like 14th place. And then they became Light FM.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It became the number one station in New York. It's
- 28:33Speaker 2: right down the hall there, right at the end of
- 28:34Speaker 2: our hall. That's Light FM.
- 28:35Speaker 7: I know. They brought in all these DJs from the South,
- 28:41Speaker 7: and the station didn't last, obviously, because there wasn't country music.
- 28:45Speaker 7: It wasn't so popular then.
- 28:46Speaker 11: No.
- 28:47Speaker 7: I remember listening to it when they did have it,
- 28:49Speaker 7: and I think it was your company that had it, right?
- 28:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Well, it was country under a different company.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Right, under a different company. But anyway, she was really incredible.
- 28:59Speaker 7: What a personality.
- 29:01Speaker 2: You're in Roslyn, New York. Hey, the Jolly Fisherman is gone,
- 29:05Speaker 2: but it's about to become an incredible new restaurant. I know.
- 29:07Speaker 7: I don't know what it's going to become yet.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Oh, it's going to be unbelievable. Gillis Pole, the Pole Brothers.
- 29:11Speaker 2: These guys are the greatest restaurant.
- 29:12Speaker 7: Right, the Pole Brothers. They own everything.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Well, they're the best restaurant guys probably in America, but
- 29:17Speaker 2: definitely in Long Island.
- 29:17Speaker 7: You're not kidding. God, they are unbelievable. But I listen
- 29:21Speaker 7: to you every day, and you are absolutely sensational. Just
- 29:25Speaker 7: keep doing what you're doing.
- 29:26Speaker 2: All right. Thanks. Thanks for calling. Yeah, Light FM was WKHK.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Remember the big country station was WHN, AM 1050, WHN,
- 29:37Speaker 2: the country station, with Del DeMontreau and all. those sort
- 29:40Speaker 2: of guys. And Larry Kenney. Remember Larry Kenney? Great guy.
- 29:44Speaker 2: And then it switched to.
- 29:48Speaker 7: Sports.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Remember? Yeah. It became WFAN. That was where the original
- 29:51Speaker 2: WFAN was. So some people thought, well, there's a need
- 29:55Speaker 2: for a country station. We'll create a country station on FM.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And it never quite works in New York. Whenever they
- 30:01Speaker 2: do a country show, they can't figure out why it
- 30:03Speaker 2: doesn't work in New York. Well, walk around Manhattan. You
- 30:08Speaker 2: don't see a lot of McLeod cowboy hats here. I mean,
- 30:11Speaker 2: it's not a country city. I mean, I love country music.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And there are people. If you go way out in
- 30:18Speaker 2: Long Island, you'll find some country fans. But if you're
- 30:20Speaker 2: in Roslyn and Manhasset, there's not a lot of country
- 30:24Speaker 2: fans there. You know, when you see those people, you go,
- 30:26Speaker 2: how are you? They're not big country listeners. So it
- 30:29Speaker 2: didn't work. It became Light FM, which, by the way,
- 30:32Speaker 2: was controversial at the time. Nobody understood the format. Light FM?
- 30:36Speaker 2: You just play light music? What kind of music? It
- 30:39Speaker 2: became the number one station. It is still today, right now,
- 30:43Speaker 2: down the hall. That station is the number one highest rated,
- 30:47Speaker 2: most listened to station in America. Number one radio station.
- 30:53Speaker 2: And always has been for like a million years. You know,
- 30:55Speaker 2: right on this floor, In the morning, right now, we
- 30:59Speaker 2: reach about, I don't know, like 22 million people or something.
- 31:01Speaker 2: You got Charlemagne over there. He's got like 8 million listeners.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You got Elvis Duran down the hall. He's probably got
- 31:09Speaker 2: 9 million listeners, 10 million listeners. You got Light FM,
- 31:13Speaker 2: the number one single most listened to morning show station
- 31:17Speaker 2: in America. You got Q104. It's like the number three
- 31:20Speaker 2: station in New York. You got, what else is here?
- 31:23Speaker 2: KTU is one of the great stations. Yeah. I'm missing something.
- 31:28Speaker 2: That's it, I think. Well, of course, WOR. See, we
- 31:34Speaker 2: get the other, we get an older audience, but it's
- 31:37Speaker 2: the very, very upscale audience. That's the big reason people
- 31:42Speaker 2: advertise here. It's a very upscale audience. That's why they say, ah,
- 31:46Speaker 2: all I hear are gold companies. Well, the reason the
- 31:48Speaker 2: gold companies are here, they're not looking for you to
- 31:51Speaker 2: buy something for $ 3. They're looking for a real investor. So,
- 31:55Speaker 2: This is the kind of station where you can get
- 31:56Speaker 2: that kind of action. Hey, it's 9 to noon every
- 32:00Speaker 2: day now. I'm on 9 to noon, three hours, 9 a.m.
- 32:03Speaker 2: till noon every day. We'll get back to Dolly Parton.
- 32:06Speaker 2: We've got a lot to talk about with her. We'll
- 32:08Speaker 2: get to Hillary Clinton going crazy with her comments, and
- 32:12Speaker 2: it looks like she's running in 2028. But we'll get
- 32:15Speaker 2: to all of that coming up. And then don't forget,
- 32:17Speaker 2: at noon, it's Buck, Sexton, and Clay Travis. That's one
- 32:20Speaker 2: of the most listened to radio shows in America, millions
- 32:23Speaker 2: of listeners. Then at 3 o'clock, we have the single
- 32:26Speaker 2: most listened to radio show in America. It's like 16.5
- 32:30Speaker 2: million listeners. Sean Hannity, 3 o'clock. And then you've got
- 32:33Speaker 2: Jesse Kelly at 6. And you've got the very funny
- 32:37Speaker 2: Jimmy Fallon every night, 9 to midnight, here on 710WOR.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Now 9 till noon weekdays.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Mark Simone.
- 32:46Speaker 7: Only on 710WOR.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Hey, it's going to be a really nice day today.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Beautiful summer day, sunshine, like low 80s, real feel like 79.
- 32:57Speaker 2: It's going to be a beautiful day today. Maybe the
- 33:00Speaker 2: nicest day of the summer. Now, tomorrow looks cloudy with
- 33:03Speaker 2: a lot of rain here and there. And it should
- 33:06Speaker 2: be a little better on Friday. But you only got
- 33:09Speaker 2: this week and then next week. And then it's Labor Day.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I know, it's hard to believe. But hey, in the
- 33:15Speaker 2: next hour, we'll get back to Dolly Parton. You know,
- 33:18Speaker 2: a lot of people ask about the variety shows. It
- 33:20Speaker 2: was a big part of television, 50s and 60s, the
- 33:23Speaker 2: variety shows. What happened to them? Why can't they try
- 33:26Speaker 2: it again? Well, the last person ever to try it
- 33:30Speaker 2: was Dolly Parton. And we'll get to that and more
- 33:32Speaker 2: coming up right after the news on 710WOR.
