- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: And you can play along with your coworkers.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: And whoever gets the lowest number right would have to buy lunch.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: I would say, right?
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds like a good challenge.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't have to be for lunch time.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: It could be anytime.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: It could be anytime.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: It could be anytime.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: However, it's called lunchtime trivia, so you would think they would do it at lunch.

- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Put your cell phones down.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not keep one cell phone out, obviously.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So you can hear the questions, but the other cell phones get put away and so you can do something where you're interacting with each other.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: You can have verbal intercourse as we call it.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.

- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a speech and performing arts major.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not making a verbal in a course.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's an actual technical term.

- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Up next, good luck.

- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Don't die.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's things I would say to you.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's an action adventure sci-fi comedy.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: It starts Sam Rockwell as the man.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like Sam Rockwell as a man from the future who recruits dinner patrons to help him save the world.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds interesting.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: Excited.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't say, but you'd have to see the movie to see the rest.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: Then, goat, which has been heavily promoted as well, too.

- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Did you say animation?
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: You see, you don't pay attention.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then I says, I have two things.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't listen in something else.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Selective hearing?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, something else.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Something else.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: OK, there we go.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she calls you something else a lot.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, anything's something else.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, I don't know how you're looking at that.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, and then last but not least, a reimagination, a reanimation, too, of the classic Emily Bronti novel.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: directed by Emerald Fennel, the film stars Marl-Go-Robbie.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, mother-in-heights.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob Leordi, as the iconic Catherine and Heathcliff.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: Heathcliff.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't hear that name a lot.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Siped on a candy bar.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Or in a cartoon.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Or in a cartoon.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we're going to review that one next week.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Weathering?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: We'll reach new heights on that one.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: We will reach new heights.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: They might be weathering.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: They might even be weathering.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: So they might be weathering.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: When the weather will be like, I'm not sure, but we'll find out.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: They might even be some workers in the weather.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: They could be.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Are you done now?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right, so move it on, best directors.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'll go first and then tell us what movie you picked to review from the two directors.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now we did share this information off camera.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: No, we did.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: With each other, so did not.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is spontaneous folks.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: OK, don't listen to him.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Pay no attention to the man behind the other microphone.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we did share this behind afterwards so that we could at least help each other out and figure out what movies we needed to watch.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, this would have been total chaos, which is whatever episode is.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, thanks to you.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, I'm kidding.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: We are like a married couple, aren't we?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: So there it is.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: So my picks for Best Director.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, clearly I'm boring you because you're yawning over it.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's not that here's the reasons why I'm picking Joel I absolutely love Fargo.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a great movie.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Good movie.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I also love him for his Most people don't like what I'm about to say his remake of true grit.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was actually pretty good.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: I know I get I know because it's not right.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I know
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I also like him for the Big Lebowski.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: I like him for old brother where art thou and then of course It didn't you yeah old country for old country old country.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: I always do that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I always call it old country for no men.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes I don't know why but I do that
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: to word for that.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: What, but what turned me on to him, I guess.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to use that, he was the producer on raising Arizona and also producer on Hudsucker Proxy as well too.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, okay, as well.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, there you go.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: No, I know.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: And now you know.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's number one.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then number two,
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: One of the best.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so those are my two, so which movie are you reviewing for us?
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'll tell you what.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna do no country for old men, but I think I'm gonna do marney by Alfred Hitchcock.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: With Sean Connery and the woman from Cycle.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: and I'm blanking on her name and we're going to get yelled at for this one too.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, we won't because I'm about to help you.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you are.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's always to be generally all right.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you were going to say to be Hedron.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Is it to be Hedron or gently to be Hedron to be Hedron, to be Hedron, Marny, Marny Edgar Rutland in the movie?
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: OK, yeah, Marny.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: With Sean Connery.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: One of the best roles I've ever seen Sean Connery before his bond days, if I'm not mistaken.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just a terrific movie.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's so well directed, so beautifully directed.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a movie about a woman who has multiple personalities.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: And Sean Connery, if I'm not mistaken, is it's a psychiatrist who's trying to help her and they, there's a love story there.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I won't give you the ending if you've never seen it.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Go see this movie, if you like.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: Alfred Hitchcock, John Ramovies.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is in my opinion one of his best.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: And Alfred, from Batman, the TV show, was in the movie.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: He was.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Rutherford.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Alan Napier.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: A great movie.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's so focused on the two main characters that it's hard to remember who the other players were to be honest with you, because the movie really 90% revolves around connery and tippy-hedron, which you got.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing I ever wondered was, how do you name your daughter, Tippy?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: That just doesn't, you know, I don't, that's a weird name.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and of ours are weird name, but an eighth.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I was gonna say, and a tipy.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: What about your name?
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: And an eighth tipy.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that's, I would say, that's a really well-directed movie.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's directed so many good movies, rear window, north by northwest, obviously.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great movie too by Hitchcock.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Psycho, but Marny, I think Marny took him out of that,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: sort of thriller to a human element, kind of human frailty movie.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's still categorized as psychological thriller, but it's really, it's kind of not.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it is because of the ending, the ending kind of makes it that, but it's not, it's not a typical hitchcock, which is why I think I like it.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I like Sean Connery.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I will I will have to tell you that at Marmy is actually one of my favorite Hitchcock movies.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Marny.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Marny.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: I pronounced the wrong.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, two weeks in a row.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Here's why.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Here's why.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, because I think and I don't care what you see.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care what anybody else says.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: The best bond.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Sean, Sean, that's my number one guy and Roger Craig is a very close second, absolutely, but somebody third would be Pierce Bronson to me.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: See, I thought, yeah, maybe, I don't know.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I, I throw, I throw Timothy Dalton in there too.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody said that that was their bond to me.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: Pierce Bronson and I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it's got to be kind of refers before anybody.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: There was another guy to play by me before kind of he Roger Moore.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: That was after.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're talking about the spy who loved me.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's no, it wasn't the spy who loved me.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: With her majesty, she could service.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the only thing he ever did.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: Because the one sucked, it was terrible.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember the gentleman's name and that's we don't need to go back and find it because honestly, it wasn't that great of a performance.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we're gonna get crawled on it.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: So we gotta find out.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you can do that.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: And while you do that why don't you tell us what your best directors are so I can talk about the movie that I will review for you Okay, I have I have four.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's weird.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, he would the first to play bond in a feature film Who Do do do do do do do do do do do the other guy, but apparently bond played one one before that and then over after
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: who who what Sean Connery was the first bond in a feature film.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Then another guy did one and then he came back.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, here's mine.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go way back.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking the way back machine here.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Cecil B. DeMell.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of the greatest actors with if Cecil B. DeMell was alive today, he would be doing all the Avenger movies in my opinion.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: He was so far ahead of his time when it came to what he did with what he had in terms of special effects and stunts and stuff.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: It was crazy.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: He always had, you know, every movie he ever did won over budget, every time.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: And this was the days of the studio heads who would go crazy when you went over budget.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Every movie I think he ever did had thousands and thousands of extras.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's a line in a mild Brooks movie where somebody does something and one of the characters says she's killed more people than Cecil B. DeMille, which is a reference to Ben Hur and the 10 Commandments.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, second field board.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's just terrific actor, a lot of people know that in order for him to do shinlers.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: You keep saying actor, and I think you mean director.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: In order for him to be able to, for a studio to do shinlers list, which is a movie he desperately wanted to do, and I think it took five to ten years to get it done.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: He had to agree to direct drastic part.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: So he was doing them simultaneously as a story.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was filming, directing, Jurassic, and also directing, Schindler's List in Europe.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: So he was going back and forth.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you think about the strain of a director on one movie,
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: But that's because Shindra's list obviously was a laborer of love for him.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Scorsese, I don't know, can you not add Martin Scorsese to a list of great directors?
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you could do without him.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think, I throw Eastwood in there.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think Clint Eastwood became a really good director.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the movies you directed, he was in, like $1,000, $1,000 baby, and some of the other ones.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: But, and that's hard to do.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to be an actor director, and he pulls it off really well in a bunch of movies.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Those are my runner-ups, to be honest with you.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: Either my favorite director is Frank Capra, of one of the full-life and other movies like that.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think Frank Capra was a director that was able to find the humanity in all the characters that he directed through the actors that he directed.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: One of the full-life is probably the greatest example of that
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: The same actors in that movie, in the beginning, he had a developed up those personas for those actors.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Every single one, Jimmy Stewart, the uncle, the flirty girl, the Donna Reed character, the mom, all of them.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: I had a, and then he had a reverse it when the movie changes midway, and they all had to be complete 180 degree opposites.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: of what they were in the beginning in terms of their characters.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think for a director, that's like really hard to do.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think maybe I'm not sure who was, but the director who directed Trevota and Nick face off.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: who was in face of which I'm Travolta, Nicholas Cage.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a same example of taking two characters and making them opposites.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: Somewhere in the movie, they become complete opposite of what their original character was.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: That movie pulled it off too, but I don't know that anybody was as good at pulling out
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: the likability or not likability of a character in a movie, then Frank Capra.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: So which would you like to review?
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: So you think it's a wonderful life is better than it happened one night?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: because of what I just said.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it happened one night, was a fun movie, but it didn't have the complexity of taking the character, I'll just give you an example of the mom in the wonderful life in the beginning is a nice,
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: loving, wholesome mom, and then when the movie switches gears, she is a bitter, old, widow, and that you had a, that transformation had a come from directing in my opinion.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: And not the way that the actual screenplay is written.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, but you still, you still got to get the actor to make that switch, is what I'm saying.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know?
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you've got to give credit to the actor too, but I think the director in a case like that has to know how to make that happen.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Not all actors can go from happy to angry, I guess.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Or bitter.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, you are the overachiever for today's category because you took four directors and added them into the mix I agree with you that's feel burgers a great director I just feel like he's done so much now that it's like oh, it's another Steven Spielberg movie And I think back in the day he was great.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think now it's kind of like yeah
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Some of his stuff is okay, some of his stuff's not.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: I would even venture to say that Ron Howard has had that kind of same career.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: I like Ron Howard.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a bunch of great movies, and then he did a couple of movies recently, and he's just been like, so, anyway, that neither here nor there.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned Martin's, or, of course, AC, and one of my favorite movies of all time, he directed called Casino.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorites, I'm not top 10 Mafia move.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to review it because it's over three hours, it's almost three hours long, and I still have the DVD version, I think I saw the DVD version, which is two DVDs, anyways.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: But that's because of all the bonus content that they put on the second one as well.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: I just think Casino's a fabulous movie, absolutely amazing in and of its time.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: And just a great look back at the way that Vegas was back in the day, sadly it didn't win an Oscar.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: And the only person who's nominated from it was Sharon Stone.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: which I think is a crime.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think what a one best picture, but I think I'm stuttering like he always does.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: Peshie did a great job in that role in that film.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think DeNero was great, but that's DeNero being the mobster, right?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he did anything different.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: Peshie, I think, brought a different element to the film.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: You got to see him and his softer side.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think DeNero was just, you know, the straight up gangster that he's been in so many other movies that to me it was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't feel like he did anything, you know, new let's put it that way, but I feel like Peshie really brought that movie through here.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying I wasn't going to review it and I'm halfway doing it, but
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great film.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen it, check it out.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely worth a watch, like I said, give yourself one time.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: It is three hours long, but the thing of it is is that almost three hours long, but it's several snacks.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing of it is, it doesn't feel like it's three hours long.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: It just keeps moving and keeps going and keeps going.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a great movie.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: When I was a kid, it was one of the, well, not one as a kid, because it came out in like what, uh, 95.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: So when I was in my formative 20s, actually, I probably was like 21
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was one of those movies that, like, if I had nothing else to do, I would actually watch it.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it five times.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it at least at least 20 times.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: And it keeps your interest.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: And since you mentioned the nerve, if you haven't seen, the nerve is the mob actor personified.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: But if you really want to see him in a good movie role, that takes some kind of out of that, you've got to see Ronan.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you like the narrow, go watch Ronan.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think Ronan's a good flick as well too.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: I will say it takes the narrow out of his, what he's known for, Ronan, that's what he's saying.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: still an action movie, but like you and your worst Batman of all time, I still saw a bunch of his mob stuff in Ronin when he was doing certain things.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sorry, I just saw it.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's, there's, you could say that about the, there's a bunch of parents too, but there's a, and you're absolutely right.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: Some of his mob stuff leaked out through that.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's going back to meet the parents.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard not to bring that out because a lot of the mafia roles that he played.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: He played like the head dude.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of like Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta be trying to play the bad man.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: The funny thing is is that the funny thing is is that those movies are complete opposites of each other and you're wrong.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: So that's bad.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Moving on.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: So the movie that I picked, the movie that I picked to review from your large selections of best directors is actually a movie that won Best Picture when it came out.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's a movie that won best performance by an actor, best performance by an actress, and even best performing by an actor in a supporting role, and best director.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: And the funny thing is, is the guy that directed the movie won for best picture, best actor, and best director.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Talking about Clint Eastwood.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people like to say that unforgiving was one of his best movies.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't disagree.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great movie.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: However, I think $1 million, baby.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: probably one of his best pieces of work, and here's why I will say that, he, to me, was on a different level.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: in this movie.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: Playing the character that he played, supporting Hillary the way that, well, I shouldn't say Hillary because that's not her name in the movie, but supporting this gal in the movie, just doing the things that supporting Maggie throughout the film, I just, you saw a different layer of Clint Eastwood that you didn't get to see a lot of.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I love it when an actor can step out of
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: the roles he's normally used to doing or known for and give you a whole other side of him.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that shows a huge tool box, if you will, of different acting skills and things of that nature.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: So also the reason why you won Best Actor for that year, Hillary Swank absolutely amazing in this role.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anybody knew who she was before this movie, but I'll tell you what, everyone who saw this movie, knew exactly who she was after this movie, and this movie kind of catapulted her career a little bit.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Um, unfortunately, she didn't go as far as most people thought she would have, um, her career kind of faltered a little bit, uh, but I mean, you know, a Morgan Freeman.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, Anthony Mackie is in this movie.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great movie.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot there.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: And in care for the end of the movie.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: I won't say why this is my review not yours.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, shh.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the pez?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Have a pez.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably because it's a psychological drama and you don't like those.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, do a lifetime.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: It is a boxing movie, so if you don't like a lot of violence, you probably aren't going to like this movie because there are some pretty solid hits in this movie.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think some of the makeup work is absolutely amazing as well too.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's just a great season.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, honestly, I thought everything in this movie was great.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a reason why I won Best Picture.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: you know.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: I saw it in the theaters.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's so great to see it on the big screen.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: It does take away like watching at home does take away a little bit, but it's still a great movie that script is amazing.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: The script is great, the record is great, everything is great.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: And now we get to Annavar's review of the movie.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you're absolutely right.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's not, there is, I don't think anybody can say anything bad about this movie, except for you and you're not liking the ending.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: So there's the only thing I didn't like.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's that.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: But once one thing in the ending, I didn't like it.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: One of the ton of awards, I am degrading as 8.1.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I mean, it takes time to talk to the story.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was, but I'm not 100% sure and your son can correct us on that after he listens to this episode and we'll have to snow because I can't find anything in any of the stuff I'm looking at but I mean most of the movies nowadays they start off with though this is based on a true story and like the part of it that's based on the true story is like you know there was this girl who was a boxer.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I mean, whatever.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: It is what it is.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: Great film.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: Not, it's not a direct true story, but it is inspired by and the boxer trainer Jerry Boyd's short story some of his book, Rope Burns.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: So like I said, the way most true stories are in Hollywood nowadays, it's inspired by something else.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: But this movie is phenomenal.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Go see it.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: Pick it up at your local library if you haven't seen it.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's as valuable streaming.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like you can see it on while you can rent it on Prime video.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, go to your library, your libraries, but these movies for free.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: Go to the library, get a library card.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to use the index cards anymore.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like we used to to find where they're at.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: So you can find, you can even go online and just reserve it.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: You can watch them online now.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: They have a canopy.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's a streaming service, it's connected with most libraries.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: And you can watch movies free on your phone.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: Long-to-library card.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: This message brought to you by the National Library Association.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, we should, before we close out the best directors,
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to give a shout out to one of my favorite directors.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't put him in the, I wouldn't put him above the directors I said, but he made, he would director some great movies and slay it, sadly we lost some tragic hits at Rob Reiner, Princess Bride, Harry Metzalli, he's got some great movies, he's got some great films under his vault, the late great, yeah, late great Rob Reiner, who was also such
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: guy ahead of his time and all in the family with his character, his character was so far ahead of his time.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: And if you haven't watched all in the family ever, go watch it and be enlightened by what you're hearing 40 years ago and what you're seeing today, just saying.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: and on that note.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to end the episode of cheesy popcorn next week we'll review withering heights weathering heights however you want to call it you're green heights would be like above flowers because they'd be withering right exactly so there we go again I have to be corrected because you know that's the way it works anyway.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: or just kidding.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: You always got to correct the better looking guy.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happens.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I can't help it.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I got long hair and I'm tall.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, and then also we'll look at our best actresses.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about who is nominated for Best Actress for the Oscars of 2026.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, we'll get up to some sort of shenanigans like we always do whenever the mics are open.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: We just can't help but that's just the way we are.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: But we do respect each other on many levels.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: You got to take away from this moment.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: I gave you your Rob Reiner moment.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't do this.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't respect you.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: I take it back.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: You're absolutely right.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we'll see you at the next episode of cheesy popcorn and until then, save us some popcorn.
