Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Third season with the Chicago Bears. Last season nine hundred
- 0:02Speaker 1: and sixty six yards, ninety eight receptions, six touchdowns. New
- 0:06Speaker 1: regime here in town for you, a change of scenery
- 0:08Speaker 1: with the crew in here. How's it felt so far
- 0:10Speaker 1: through the early portion of training camp with Ben Johnson?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Uncomfortable has been the main thing. Just them trying to
- 0:17Speaker 2: change the coach around here. And they done did it
- 0:19Speaker 2: fast and you can tell how he practice and go
- 0:22Speaker 2: about our business.
- 0:24Speaker 1: What about it has changed so much in terms of
- 0:26Speaker 1: how you practice.
- 0:27Speaker 2: What's the thing that job, that intensity. If you mess up,
- 0:30Speaker 2: you get out of there. You get one chance. If
- 0:34Speaker 2: you a double offender, then you ain't gonna be in
- 0:36Speaker 2: on that play for the rest of camp, they feel like.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So we saw a lot of that in the chat,
- 0:41Speaker 1: people mentioning Luther Burden in there. You know, rookie receiver
- 0:44Speaker 1: coming in and been dealing with a little bit of injury
- 0:46Speaker 1: and Coach Johnson after a play tossed him out and
- 0:49Speaker 1: made it watch there. Do you offer any counsel to
- 0:51Speaker 1: your rook on that one? Would you tell him after that?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I actually didn't see it because I was coming back
- 0:55Speaker 2: or again and talk to what I did hear him
- 0:58Speaker 2: yelling at somebody, and I know with Luther, but if
- 1:01Speaker 2: any advice is that you just got to stay in
- 1:02Speaker 2: your playbook and know the exact details, because if the
- 1:06Speaker 2: playbooks say plus two from the hash and you minus
- 1:09Speaker 2: one from the hash, then you're wrong and you're gonna
- 1:11Speaker 2: have to get out. If he's gonna give you a
- 1:13Speaker 2: second chance, you're gonna rehuddle it, go back out there.
- 1:16Speaker 2: If you do it again, line up in the same way,
- 1:18Speaker 2: you're definitely coming out.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I appreciate that though, because he's establishing, hey, this is
- 1:23Speaker 3: our standard, this is what it is, and if you're
- 1:27Speaker 3: not on our page, get out. We'll find somebody else
- 1:30Speaker 3: to get in and do it. So it keeps everyone
- 1:32Speaker 3: accountable and just making everyone like, all right, I gotta
- 1:34Speaker 3: get in my platebook because I want to be on
- 1:36Speaker 3: the field.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. So you're obviously on the field plenty for
- 1:41Speaker 1: this Bears team. You've been a great player already. We
- 1:43Speaker 1: did see a little bit of you working at running back, though.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Did I see that right here? What was that conversation
- 1:48Speaker 1: like and how did that feel for you?
- 1:50Speaker 2: The conversation was, all right, we got this package of however,
- 1:53Speaker 2: many plays and god know it by tomorrow and ever
- 1:57Speaker 2: since then. I just was like, all right, I've just
- 2:00Speaker 2: been going here first with it.
- 2:02Speaker 1: How did it feel? I mean, is that something that
- 2:04Speaker 1: you had done much before? Any experience? Well?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I had experience with it. It's not too challenging, but
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, it's a whole different feel with your odds
- 2:12Speaker 2: and your feet and from going from outside to being
- 2:15Speaker 2: in the backfield everything faster back there.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Did you ever play running back high school? College?
- 2:19Speaker 2: A little bit in high school and college and uh,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but to be in the pros everything.
- 2:24Speaker 3: So what's been the most challenging piece about playing running
- 2:27Speaker 3: back in the.
- 2:28Speaker 2: In the NFL? Yeah, it's a getting your footwork right
- 2:31Speaker 2: with the quarterback and being in on time with the line,
- 2:34Speaker 2: you know, because if you're late, you're gonna get blown up.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And on the cutback. You mentioned you mentioned your quarterback
- 2:41Speaker 1: Taylor Williams coming into year two for him in the NFL,
- 2:44Speaker 1: But you're one of this offense that we know puts
- 2:46Speaker 1: a lot on the quarterbacks plate. What have you seen
- 2:49Speaker 1: from him so far through this offseason and now into
- 2:51Speaker 1: camp as far as his development is.
- 2:52Speaker 2: His detail, he's been more detailed on everything because he
- 2:57Speaker 2: you know, he don't want to get thrown out. To start,
- 3:00Speaker 2: A quarterback can get thrown out of practice. When that happens,
- 3:02Speaker 2: you know, everybody can get thrown out. So I know
- 3:05Speaker 2: he's he's been studying pretty hard and going after it
- 3:08Speaker 2: with us being on the details with him.
- 3:11Speaker 1: All right, Well, that's good to hear. I'm sure Bears
- 3:13Speaker 1: fans are exciting. They also don't want to see their
- 3:14Speaker 1: quarterback get thrown out of practice. Here, we want to
- 3:17Speaker 1: do something. We know you just got done with practice.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You work physically. We want to get a little bit
- 3:21Speaker 1: of the mentals here right now. We got the iPad
- 3:22Speaker 1: coming over here, and what we've got is a freeze
- 3:25Speaker 1: framed play from last season. So it's apparently too hot
- 3:29Speaker 1: and our iPad is overheated right now, so we're going
- 3:31Speaker 1: to try and put you to work in there a
- 3:32Speaker 1: little bit it. Oh, you know what play it is?
- 3:35Speaker 1: All right? What play was it?
- 3:37Speaker 3: From the formation team.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Our former team, the Panthers? Okay, formation was I want
- 3:43Speaker 2: to say a four by one. I was on the backside.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I had a post alert post. If the safety moved
- 3:52Speaker 2: over at any point an inch, it was going up
- 3:55Speaker 2: to me. And he did and it's a touchdown, all right.
- 3:59Speaker 1: There we got and we've got play going down right here.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So you saw safety move one on one matchup and
- 4:05Speaker 1: an incredible catch back there in the end zone. I'm
- 4:08Speaker 1: curious for you, DJ because when I watch you on tape,
- 4:11Speaker 1: when you get the ball in your hands in the
- 4:12Speaker 1: short area, it's a show. You are so electric with
- 4:15Speaker 1: the ball in your hands. Do you like a short
- 4:17Speaker 1: catch that you can turn into a long run or
- 4:20Speaker 1: a deep ball like that where you're toe tapping in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the back of the end zone.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Better either or hope it just both turn out into
- 4:26Speaker 2: a touchdown. But the funness is when you can get
- 4:30Speaker 2: the ball short and go be Mario Superstar on the play.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So I choose that one. Electrifying plays, those are the
- 4:36Speaker 3: fun ones to watch.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Those are the fun ones. All right. Last one for
- 4:39Speaker 1: you here. We know you got to go and got
- 4:40Speaker 1: a busy day. Here we saw you guys did the
- 4:42Speaker 1: first day of school stuff. There you put the chalkboard
- 4:44Speaker 1: up and you and Roma Duneesa both said you wanted
- 4:47Speaker 1: to be the other when you grow up. Here, describe
- 4:50Speaker 1: your relationship with Rome going into his second year.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I mean, it's been amazing. Rome been under my wing
- 4:54Speaker 2: since he got hair. We had Keenan last year Keenan,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I was under Keenan's wing because he's was the vet Vet.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm still learning from him. Yes, he's like so I
- 5:04Speaker 2: was learning from him and Rome was taking it from
- 5:07Speaker 2: from me and me and him at the same time.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But I'm closer to aged in Rome, so I mean,
- 5:12Speaker 2: our relationship is great. We text if you have a
- 5:14Speaker 2: problem out doing the feel he asked me, and we
- 5:16Speaker 2: go from there.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Well, it's something I know. Bears are excited to see
- 5:20Speaker 1: you guys both out there doing your thing this season. DJ.
- 5:22Speaker 1: We appreciate the time man. Good luck with the rest
- 5:24Speaker 1: of training camp and hopefully you don't get tossed at
- 5:26Speaker 1: any point.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Please that in the air.
