- 0:32Speaker 1: Well, welcome to another episode of Delay but not Denied
- 0:36Speaker 1: the podcast. On tonight, me and my guest, Miss Diddy,
- 0:43Speaker 1: will be talking about hydrocephalus. This is Hydrocephalus Awareness Month.
- 0:49Speaker 1: But before we begin, we want to go to the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Lord in prayer, Heavenly Father, we come to you right
- 0:55Speaker 1: now asking you to be in the midst of the conversation,
- 0:58Speaker 1: asking you to reach the peaceeople that need to hear it,
- 1:01Speaker 1: reach their ears and their hearts by the God, that
- 1:04Speaker 1: they will receive what it is that you need them
- 1:07Speaker 1: to receive from this message tonight. And it's in your
- 1:10Speaker 1: Son Jesus name. I pray Amen, so Bed, How are you?
- 1:17Speaker 2: How beautiful? How are you?
- 1:20Speaker 1: I'm great? I am great. I am great A.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Long time you ain't no longer? Yes, have a feet.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you you are my host. You are the co hosts.
- 1:34Speaker 1: But I wanted to give a definition of what hydrocephilis is,
- 1:41Speaker 1: and it's a condition where there's an excessive acclamation of
- 1:50Speaker 1: severals final fluid in the brain's ventricles. This build up
- 1:56Speaker 1: fluid can cause increased pressure on the brain, leading to
- 2:01Speaker 1: various symptoms and complications. Hydrocephalus can be caused by several
- 2:07Speaker 1: factors which include blockage of CSF flow. This can occur
- 2:15Speaker 1: during due to tumors, infections, head injuries, or congenital malformations,
- 2:24Speaker 1: overproduction of c SF, and IT says, although rare, some
- 2:29Speaker 1: conditions can lead to increased production of c SF impaired
- 2:36Speaker 1: absorption of c SF the body is UH. The body's
- 2:42Speaker 1: ability to absorb c SF can be UH impaired in
- 2:47Speaker 1: certain conditions such as meningitis or a certain type of
- 2:53Speaker 1: hemorrhage can take place, and the symptoms the symptoms of
- 2:59Speaker 1: high can vary dependent on the severity and location of
- 3:05Speaker 1: the blockage. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, and vomiting, confusion,
- 3:12Speaker 1: congenitive problems, cognitive problems, my bad seizures, irritability, sleep disturbances,
- 3:21Speaker 1: enlargement of the head, especially in children, difficulty walking or
- 3:28Speaker 1: coordinating movements, loss of bladder control, and vision problems. Hydrocephalus
- 3:35Speaker 1: is typically diagnosed through a physical exam, medical history, and
- 3:40Speaker 1: brain imaging tests such as an MRI or CT scan.
- 3:45Speaker 1: These tests can reveal the presence of enlarged ventricles and
- 3:49Speaker 1: identify the underlying cause of the fluid build up.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So that's a lotting and the treatment.
- 4:03Speaker 1: The treatment for hydrocephalists usually involved surgery to place a shunt.
- 4:08Speaker 1: A shunt is a thin tube that drains the excess
- 4:12Speaker 1: CSF from the ventricles into another part of the body,
- 4:17Speaker 1: such as the abdomen or pereneal cavity. In some cases,
- 4:25Speaker 1: medication can be used to reduce CSF production or improve
- 4:31Speaker 1: its absorption. So I was an adult when I learned
- 4:39Speaker 1: that I had hydrocephalist, been having it all my life,
- 4:43Speaker 1: didn't know it till I became an adult, never had
- 4:49Speaker 1: to have any revisions.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Oh, God, blessed, But it's not.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It's not a blessing because I have done without the
- 5:02Speaker 1: correct type of care for so many years to the
- 5:06Speaker 1: point where they feel like, yeah, they feel like if
- 5:14Speaker 1: they try to do surgery, abridge and bleed.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because the mine is from the top of my
- 5:22Speaker 2: head to my abomm but it doesn't go my heart.
- 5:26Speaker 2: See where they have your position. That's not fake. Who
- 5:29Speaker 2: would do that? Because normally the ones from the top
- 5:32Speaker 2: all the way down to your abnue and then it
- 5:35Speaker 2: goes like around your heart. It doesn't go in and through.
- 5:38Speaker 2: So I'm like, who does that?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Mine is in a in a.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Adventureful yeah, and that's my safe. So yeah, they did
- 5:46Speaker 2: serve it for you Gods love. Yeah, yeah, we're just
- 5:50Speaker 2: gonna pray that your missing.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I need forty six years.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna riding this out.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So so yeah, I wanted to talk to you about
- 6:04Speaker 1: hydrocephalis and how it affects your life.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Who hydryplus in my life? Well, of course some may know,
- 6:13Speaker 2: some may not know, because I think I was going
- 6:15Speaker 2: after the last surgery. But I just celebrated a year
- 6:20Speaker 2: of the last chunk revision I had on July eighteenth,
- 6:23Speaker 2: and I was thinking about that the other day. I
- 6:25Speaker 2: was like, how do we remember just that particular date?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Why do I remember that day like it's a freaking anniversary.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But it is. But I probably celebrated the maybe the
- 6:36Speaker 2: fifth or six one I've had. I've had for many
- 6:38Speaker 2: now that it's like you don't really know how many
- 6:41Speaker 2: and you can't keep up with how many. But I
- 6:44Speaker 2: love the fact that you read off the symptoms and
- 6:47Speaker 2: you read off the description, because the interesting part is
- 6:51Speaker 2: my symptom used to be straight borderline of what you read.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I was just like that this time around, God said, no,
- 7:02Speaker 2: I need you to do something else. I had no
- 7:04Speaker 2: idea what was happening. I had no idea what was
- 7:07Speaker 2: going what was the reason for it until after the fact.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But the reason why my stunt needed to be revised
- 7:14Speaker 2: is because my blood pressure was hot. They literally thought
- 7:19Speaker 2: I was having every time I took my blood pressure.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Usually when I took my bus pressure, I just took
- 7:23Speaker 2: my hand up and then it goes back down. This
- 7:26Speaker 2: time it would not even go back down. It was
- 7:28Speaker 2: just that how my body was saying, no, lady, something's
- 7:30Speaker 2: wrong with you. And I had I got sicked. I
- 7:34Speaker 2: got to my first place. My cousin helped me get
- 7:35Speaker 2: in my first place, and then I got sicked. So
- 7:37Speaker 2: I thought those fool boys going maybe the flu or something.
- 7:40Speaker 2: But I said, no, this this, this, this Garland ain't
- 7:43Speaker 2: where it's hat. So I called her. She sawed the ambulance.
- 7:46Speaker 2: She knew I had a shunk, so she let them
- 7:48Speaker 2: know she got a shunt. Y'all need to come get
- 7:49Speaker 2: her a sack. And when they got me, they immediately
- 7:53Speaker 2: did all the X rays and trying to make sure
- 7:56Speaker 2: that you know what's going on. Da da da da da.
- 8:00Speaker 2: And it turned out the er doctor still not looking
- 8:04Speaker 2: at it correctly. Because no. He says, oh, well, your
- 8:08Speaker 2: sun is King. No, I know symptoms for King. That
- 8:12Speaker 2: wasn't King. I said, but okay, it's whatever because I
- 8:15Speaker 2: already knew by then I was gonna go see my
- 8:17Speaker 2: nerves curtain that I already see anyway, So I was
- 8:19Speaker 2: like whatever, So I stayed overnight just to make sure
- 8:22Speaker 2: I could, you know, they want to make sure I
- 8:24Speaker 2: could sleep or whatever. Stayed overnight. My cousin came back
- 8:26Speaker 2: and got me and we we went back home. So
- 8:29Speaker 2: the next Monday, I was like scheduling a stat to
- 8:31Speaker 2: see my neurosurgeon. And of course I have to schedule
- 8:35Speaker 2: ahead of time because you got a schedule transportation, et cetera,
- 8:37Speaker 2: et cetera. But my cousin took me this time so
- 8:39Speaker 2: I could schedule that week. And so I went to
- 8:42Speaker 2: see him. Knowing me since I was fifteen, know my
- 8:45Speaker 2: adopted mom. You know what I'm saying. He knew my
- 8:47Speaker 2: mama didn't play about my health right, so he immediately
- 8:52Speaker 2: when he came in the door, was like, DDE, what
- 8:54Speaker 2: you doing here? I said, where doctor Ward? I think
- 8:59Speaker 2: there's something wrong with this up now. The doctor said, yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: that it's King. I said, but I know better than that.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So of course they do the standard check your eyes,
- 9:06Speaker 2: check your da da da, And he checked right up
- 9:08Speaker 2: in here and it had been at the hospitals were connected.
- 9:12Speaker 2: It was able to see the X ray. So he
- 9:14Speaker 2: looked it up and he sat there for a minute
- 9:18Speaker 2: and he said, it's broke. I said, it's what he said,
- 9:24Speaker 2: it's broke. But can you do that? Yeah, he said yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 2: because he said one was the last one he had
- 9:33Speaker 2: done before this, And I said, probably ninety three ninety four,
- 9:38Speaker 2: So I'm warning that arena. Maybe ninety four ninety five,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I'm thinking because it's been so long. And he said, yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 2: it's broke. He said, they get they get wearing tet
- 9:48Speaker 2: and they break. If you don't, if you don't have
- 9:50Speaker 2: to have any revised, it's great. So the shunt actually
- 9:54Speaker 2: broke from the just part of my net. If you try,
- 9:59Speaker 2: if you get a draw cutting in half, that's exactly
- 10:01Speaker 2: what it looked like. Oh wow, it looked like it
- 10:05Speaker 2: was a straw cutting hands. So he was like, most
- 10:09Speaker 2: people can be alright with it for a few years.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Da da da da before they get real sick. He said,
- 10:14Speaker 2: for you now, we're gonna we can just fix eight pack.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I was like, okay, well, I remember next week I
- 10:21Speaker 2: was in the emergency room, I mean in the oor,
- 10:24Speaker 2: getting ready to go in, getting ready to have the
- 10:28Speaker 2: procedures done. And he was just like he did. He
- 10:31Speaker 2: didn't do the pacifure because he's older now, so he's
- 10:34Speaker 2: tasically just an advisor. But he made sure that I
- 10:38Speaker 2: had the best playo supposed to have, and I made
- 10:40Speaker 2: sure I had the best layout spot to have, and
- 10:42Speaker 2: God made sure I had the best kayout spot to have,
- 10:44Speaker 2: because I promise you. When I met that surgeon, I
- 10:46Speaker 2: looked right and in his face and I said, now
- 10:48Speaker 2: I know you ain't doctor Ward. I know you're not,
- 10:51Speaker 2: but I'm gonna need you the channel everything that man
- 10:54Speaker 2: talks to you into you, because I'm not playing with you.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I don't play about my head. I don't say about
- 10:59Speaker 2: my when it comes to side a buffler. You you
- 11:02Speaker 2: you you gotta be real good for me to be one.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You cut me in those areas because that's my stuff.
- 11:08Speaker 2: We played it. So he's just like no, he was like,
- 11:11Speaker 2: you laught picking on some sort to try to be serious.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I'm like, no, you're gonna laught today because so we
- 11:15Speaker 2: ain't gonna be that serious. We're gonna see it. We're
- 11:17Speaker 2: gonna be that serious.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So he started laughing and he was like, this chick
- 11:21Speaker 2: right here, I'm just saying sad. So he was actually
- 11:24Speaker 2: he was actually really really great, and he was like
- 11:26Speaker 2: when he did it. After he did, He's like, I'm
- 11:28Speaker 2: trying to tout too much in here, I said, don't care,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it's already short. I deliberately wear my head short because
- 11:33Speaker 2: I know the shunts up when it feels like it
- 11:35Speaker 2: wants to act up. And if I had a good
- 11:37Speaker 2: hairstyle and I gotta cut it, I'm gonna be mad, right, Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 2: I make so my head is deliberately sure. So even
- 11:45Speaker 2: even now, this is this is my hat. If I
- 11:47Speaker 2: like to call it, you don't like to say it
- 11:49Speaker 2: like that, but this is my hat. I got a
- 11:51Speaker 2: lot of different hats because why because I like to
- 11:54Speaker 2: change a little bit, but I like to look cute.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So so he cut my head, had it, But I
- 11:59Speaker 2: had surgery that that night, was in the in my
- 12:03Speaker 2: hospital in at midnight, at midnight, yeah, at midnight, And
- 12:08Speaker 2: I had to stay in the hospital for like two days.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The medicare servants. They don't act like they want to
- 12:13Speaker 2: teach you, and no longer if you can halfway move around,
- 12:16Speaker 2: which I was fine because I was like, okay, it's
- 12:18Speaker 2: just whatever. I had just got to my own apartment,
- 12:20Speaker 2: so I hadn't even enjoyed my own place to have
- 12:23Speaker 2: to go back into a hospital. Right, Oh, I was good, Well, okay,
- 12:27Speaker 2: I'm go home. Okay. God. So basically a lot of
- 12:29Speaker 2: the care that I had to do after for recovery
- 12:33Speaker 2: was done at home. They had a home help and
- 12:36Speaker 2: it was come in like for just three times a week.
- 12:38Speaker 2: They had a physical therapist come in with me, you know,
- 12:40Speaker 2: to see me. But that was about it. But but
- 12:45Speaker 2: but that was a blessing because I found out I
- 12:47Speaker 2: can actually possibly walk again. You will and you will
- 12:53Speaker 2: and you.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Will walk. Yeah. I was gonna ask you with prior revisions,
- 13:05Speaker 1: did you have like any symptoms that let you know
- 13:09Speaker 1: you needed to have your shirt revised?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Most majority of my symptoms have That's why
- 13:17Speaker 2: I knew this one was different because the majority of
- 13:19Speaker 2: my symptoms usually are the vomiting, the mind grain headache.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I mean, like nothing you can take can help any
- 13:29Speaker 2: of that. Right, you were in a few position crime
- 13:32Speaker 2: because you can't get rid of this blessing headache. Basically,
- 13:37Speaker 2: those were the majority of my symptoms. I might have
- 13:39Speaker 2: had temperatures when I was younger. I didn't know my mom,
- 13:42Speaker 2: you know, took care of that, but she was a nurse.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But I believe the majority of what I remember were
- 13:47Speaker 2: really bad headaches and growing up. Yeah. Yeah, And I
- 13:53Speaker 2: only think I did at this at this conjunction, was vomited.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It was like my body said, Okay, we where you
- 13:59Speaker 2: need to be now. We're gonna get you to the
- 14:01Speaker 2: hospit right, m And the thing about it that was
- 14:05Speaker 2: crazy is that the doctor said that I had lived
- 14:10Speaker 2: in Florida with my ex husband for like four years
- 14:14Speaker 2: and the doctors was like, your sun was broken Florida.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I said, how what nobody told me that? We said
- 14:24Speaker 2: it was broke.
- 14:24Speaker 1: We saw it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Then we saw the last X rays they do. They
- 14:28Speaker 2: had to do X rays before I had my first
- 14:30Speaker 2: conference hom the surgery because they have to make sure
- 14:33Speaker 2: that the sun can stand whatever long procedure they have
- 14:37Speaker 2: to do. If it's a long procedure, they did us.
- 14:40Speaker 2: They did us, They did something. I mean, they did
- 14:42Speaker 2: us X ray and saw that it was broken. Nobody
- 14:45Speaker 2: said one word, not one single word. Nobody said, go
- 14:50Speaker 2: see a nerd surgeon, Go follow up with somebody.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Really well, do you know if you're still work or not?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Because for me, I've gone to different neurologists and I've
- 15:01Speaker 1: had them to tell me. I've had one to tell
- 15:05Speaker 1: me that it's working and it's working properly. I've had
- 15:09Speaker 1: one to say, oh, it's it's just there. It served
- 15:12Speaker 1: its purpose at you know, when you were a child.
- 15:17Speaker 1: So the only time we have a conversation about it
- 15:20Speaker 1: is when I asked about removing it, and they tell
- 15:24Speaker 1: me because I've had it in there since birth and
- 15:27Speaker 1: never had a revision or anything like that, they don't
- 15:31Speaker 1: want to mess with it because they don't want me
- 15:33Speaker 1: to hemorrhage and bleed. Yeah, but trying to get some
- 15:42Speaker 1: type of relief, it's always been hard for me, Like
- 15:48Speaker 1: mine is the same way. So I mean, as far
- 15:51Speaker 1: as that goes, it's behind I hit behind my ear
- 15:56Speaker 1: and it comes down and it drains into the ventricle
- 16:00Speaker 1: my heart. But it's it's been a journey. It's been
- 16:05Speaker 1: a journey. There's nights I can't sleep, there's days where
- 16:11Speaker 1: I have been up for three and four days at
- 16:14Speaker 1: a time without even taking a nap, because it's like
- 16:18Speaker 1: my body says, okay, we we're not tired. Well I can't.
- 16:26Speaker 1: You know, doctors have tried to prescribe medicines to help
- 16:30Speaker 1: me sleep or whatever, but nothing has been strong enough
- 16:34Speaker 1: to break the hydrocephalis is doing to me. You know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: does the hydrocephilists bother you when you try to sleep?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Like I can't lay on that side for too long?
- 16:50Speaker 2: You know what is an interesting thing about that is
- 16:52Speaker 2: that to answer your first question, the doctor did say
- 16:55Speaker 2: that I have a now I mean complete working thing.
- 16:59Speaker 2: They have to put like a.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Like a.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I don't know what to call it, like a maker
- 17:09Speaker 2: pace maker type thing on the top of your head
- 17:11Speaker 2: kind of control what fluid goes, you know, down or whatever. Right,
- 17:16Speaker 2: and that that particular piece that I had respond So
- 17:21Speaker 2: the only thing that needed to be repaired was the twoth.
- 17:24Speaker 2: The tooth, So the only thing that I needed to
- 17:26Speaker 2: repair was they need to put a new tube in,
- 17:28Speaker 2: which I find sometimes very interesting because you you only
- 17:31Speaker 2: cut here and you didn't cut it down to the avenue,
- 17:33Speaker 2: So I'm like, how do you get that all? The
- 17:34Speaker 2: way down there, and I ain't not not cut no
- 17:36Speaker 2: where else but up skates. That's God anyways. No, I
- 17:41Speaker 2: don't usually have too many issues sleeping wise, which set
- 17:45Speaker 2: with the sun, more of my backs and days my
- 17:49Speaker 2: bathroom the one that that the part where because you know,
- 17:52Speaker 2: I had two backers too. So the crazy part is
- 17:55Speaker 2: the area that is the oldest star is with its
- 18:00Speaker 2: the most. But he had to cut me twice, so
- 18:03Speaker 2: I had the normal birth scar at the at the
- 18:07Speaker 2: lower back when you first won right, he had to
- 18:09Speaker 2: go upward the last time because he had to streak
- 18:13Speaker 2: the bone off of my feather cord. So it was
- 18:16Speaker 2: like when I got a whole another star. But yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 2: who wants to be cut any mere? So that's only
- 18:20Speaker 2: that's the only area that I that I have issues
- 18:23Speaker 2: with the sun. Only caused the problem when something's wrong
- 18:26Speaker 2: with it, by the grace of God, because I don't
- 18:28Speaker 2: really I don't remember it's there until it's there. Now,
- 18:32Speaker 2: if I get aheadache, I get nervous because I'm wondering
- 18:35Speaker 2: if this headache is gonna go away. Fight But and
- 18:39Speaker 2: you you can tell which one is with But sometimes
- 18:43Speaker 2: it tends to have its own little mindset and be like, oh, yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 2: we're gonna stay here for a little white life scenario.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And you don't know it until it's until you got it.
- 18:51Speaker 2: So I really don't know it's there until something happens,
- 18:56Speaker 2: by the grace of God, because yeah, I.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Can turn my head a certain way and I feel it,
- 19:03Speaker 1: like like even with running my fingers across.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I cannot leave it alone.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I have it stick out where I can fit it.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I stick out to but I definitely.
- 19:19Speaker 1: But and that's how I am. Like, you know, every
- 19:23Speaker 1: time I get some kind of surgery, my hands automatically
- 19:28Speaker 1: go to that location just to fellow around. I guess
- 19:32Speaker 1: to see what's normal and what's not. You were talking
- 19:35Speaker 1: about your deck surgeries. I had one, and that was
- 19:40Speaker 1: the one at birth. It goes across. It was across three.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I had three. The last one I had was my
- 19:50Speaker 2: third because the first one I had the first one
- 19:53Speaker 2: I had a birth. Then I have one when I
- 19:55Speaker 2: was probably I want to say, maybe sixte maybe sixteen,
- 20:01Speaker 2: And because of the way I stood, I stood with
- 20:06Speaker 2: I would walk like this or they were trying to
- 20:09Speaker 2: sit me up. So every time I walked the girls
- 20:12Speaker 2: with you it's a party how y'all doing. So they
- 20:17Speaker 2: was trying to make sure they kind of correct that
- 20:19Speaker 2: as best as they could. So that was the first
- 20:21Speaker 2: one after birth, and then I had one in twenty dates. Man, well,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I just remember. I remember the day, but I'm trying
- 20:28Speaker 2: not to. Twenty eighteen is the year that I had
- 20:32Speaker 2: the last one, and that was because there was my
- 20:35Speaker 2: backbone was pressing on what my tether for it, and
- 20:38Speaker 2: he had to go in and strip the phone down
- 20:42Speaker 2: off of it and then retethered it. And the reason
- 20:45Speaker 2: why I had the symptoms for that is because my
- 20:47Speaker 2: nerves was really bad. I was really hurt. I mean
- 20:50Speaker 2: my whole hits was hurt. In my back. I could
- 20:53Speaker 2: barely move. I could barely do anything anything. And he
- 20:57Speaker 2: said he had me on medication for a while, about
- 20:59Speaker 2: me two years, and he said we're not gonna do
- 21:02Speaker 2: it to be ready to do it, because he knows
- 21:04Speaker 2: I've been cut one too many times and I'm not
- 21:06Speaker 2: honestly betting cut. Someone has to be I'm mean, the
- 21:09Speaker 2: medicine to work, and so I don't have to be cut.
- 21:12Speaker 2: But the work it worked for as long as it
- 21:14Speaker 2: could until I was like, you know, Doc, I'm there
- 21:17Speaker 2: just let's let's just get this go with because I
- 21:18Speaker 2: was tired of keep I was tired of letting my
- 21:20Speaker 2: gallu hit and keep going up. I didn't want to
- 21:23Speaker 2: go to another dose of gallivating because I was like,
- 21:26Speaker 2: I want to do that. I want to get off
- 21:28Speaker 2: of this kill. So I know right now I'm still
- 21:30Speaker 2: on it, but it's because I am actually on a
- 21:32Speaker 2: lower dose than I was. But still I'm like, mm mmm,
- 21:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna need this to go away. So he did
- 21:39Speaker 2: the same guy who guys knows my son being broke,
- 21:43Speaker 2: same man who did my He that's actually I believe
- 21:45Speaker 2: the last Thursday or one of the last thurdy he
- 21:48Speaker 2: actually did, and mine was it My back surgy was
- 21:51Speaker 2: the last one he actually did it. So I'm thankful.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I mean, when you have a good neurosurgeon, you don't
- 21:56Speaker 2: want that ny gonna where. But I had to change
- 21:59Speaker 2: to go to another plant because he doesn't do thirdery
- 22:02Speaker 2: and I'm in the country, and so I have to
- 22:04Speaker 2: go someplace that's close to I can get to. I
- 22:07Speaker 2: was upset. I feel like people family. I was like,
- 22:08Speaker 2: wait a minute, I don't want to go. I don't
- 22:11Speaker 2: want to go. Doctor Royd. I'm like, nah, I knew
- 22:14Speaker 2: his secretary. You know what I'm saying. They were family,
- 22:17Speaker 2: So I'm like, wait a minute, how I'm gonna do this?
- 22:20Speaker 2: So I was upset. But when you have a good
- 22:23Speaker 2: thurd than my body, but this other one you put
- 22:27Speaker 2: me where he's good too, So I'm thankful for that.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But we know the real position, so we good.
- 22:33Speaker 1: We are a part of a very large community of
- 22:39Speaker 1: people that have hydrocephalus and spina bifida. I have seen
- 22:46Speaker 1: I don't know if you have, but I've seen some
- 22:48Speaker 1: instances where people have been fortunate enough to have their
- 22:54Speaker 1: shunt removed. Me too, mix me just I want this
- 23:01Speaker 1: thing out, but I do understand that it is keeping
- 23:06Speaker 1: me alive, and it's keeping me here because I still
- 23:11Speaker 1: have work.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's who were getting to the brain where's at right? Well,
- 23:17Speaker 2: I'm thankful for that for you and.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Me, and I mean just being in the community and
- 23:25Speaker 1: seeing these babies with this in like these third world
- 23:31Speaker 1: countries that don't have access to the doctors that we had,
- 23:38Speaker 1: where their heads are extremely big and stollen, and and
- 23:44Speaker 1: it breaks my heart too because a lot of them
- 23:49Speaker 1: don't make it.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's but I realized this is a this
- 23:55Speaker 2: is a den thing, this is this is not just
- 23:58Speaker 2: a sunk thing. This is a brain surgery. You are
- 24:02Speaker 2: actually going into somebody's heads, touching their brain area and
- 24:06Speaker 2: fixing the fluid or trying to fix the yeah, trying
- 24:11Speaker 2: to fix the food intake. So this is not and
- 24:13Speaker 2: I didn't really I never think. I never thought I
- 24:16Speaker 2: realized that that was that until, like he said, I
- 24:18Speaker 2: got older. I did not realize that I was actually
- 24:21Speaker 2: having brain thurd Like, I never thought that that would
- 24:25Speaker 2: be the case until I looked into it. So more
- 24:28Speaker 2: was like, oh wow, this is real, this is this
- 24:31Speaker 2: is really serious. This really damaged me. And that's why
- 24:35Speaker 2: I'm worried about my bilife brother because I'm like, God
- 24:39Speaker 2: gave me the same symptoms that he currently has now
- 24:42Speaker 2: because I need to make sure that he has what
- 24:45Speaker 2: he needs to have done. And I'm like, okay, you
- 24:50Speaker 2: know what I mean to telling me they need to
- 24:52Speaker 2: fix their son. I'm like, this is telling them to
- 24:54Speaker 2: call me and they need to pick that son asap,
- 24:56Speaker 2: because he's like you, he's had his son that he
- 24:59Speaker 2: can really member all his life. But because of him
- 25:04Speaker 2: not having the sun repaired fast enough, like I did
- 25:09Speaker 2: some of his you know, some of his the comprehensions
- 25:14Speaker 2: and things like that. Still was a kind of slightly off.
- 25:17Speaker 2: So I gotta let him know this ain't nothing to
- 25:19Speaker 2: play with. Let's do this now a fac I'm like, okay, father,
- 25:24Speaker 2: I want to see all of that. You could have
- 25:26Speaker 2: give me the regular symptoms sad and so I knew
- 25:30Speaker 2: what it was. I was said, nine, we're gonna go last,
- 25:32Speaker 2: please take it off for help, and yeah, I was
- 25:35Speaker 2: like okay. And then when I talked to my brother
- 25:37Speaker 2: and he's just having those same answers our stops, I
- 25:40Speaker 2: was like, okay, because just wanted me to do this.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Is this was your plan? So you guys don't play
- 25:46Speaker 2: about me.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Is you know you have a sibling that has the
- 25:52Speaker 1: same thing that we have and uh, I you know,
- 25:57Speaker 1: being born into the family I was born into, I'm
- 26:01Speaker 1: the only one that was born with the disability that
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm aware of. And it's hard because there's really nobody
- 26:10Speaker 1: to lean on. Family, Yeah, because nobody knows what I'm
- 26:15Speaker 1: dealing with.
- 26:17Speaker 2: But I can relate to that. Why because I was
- 26:19Speaker 2: adopted and nobody in my family has finals They didn't
- 26:22Speaker 2: adopt another CHILDE was trying to visit. You know, my
- 26:25Speaker 2: mom wanted to be the keeople. That was going to
- 26:26Speaker 2: be too much that she didn't want. She didn't want
- 26:28Speaker 2: my brother. At one point she said she didn't want
- 26:29Speaker 2: us to be separated, but she just couldn't do it.
- 26:31Speaker 2: That's just that was just too much, right. I mean,
- 26:34Speaker 2: you were to say I was able to walk, and
- 26:36Speaker 2: then you have him, and then you know what I'm saying,
- 26:38Speaker 2: you don't know so and he doesn't walk, so that
- 26:41Speaker 2: would have been a lot. I mean, let's let's not
- 26:44Speaker 2: say he probably wouldn't have been able to walk, and
- 26:45Speaker 2: he came to my family because we determined, folks, we're
- 26:48Speaker 2: gonna make you walk. But I mean I did what
- 26:51Speaker 2: you're saying because I don't. I did not I had
- 26:55Speaker 2: I don't ever really remember having a friend with finf
- 26:58Speaker 2: for that to understand and relate what I'm going until
- 27:00Speaker 2: I met you on Facebook and some other people and
- 27:03Speaker 2: was like, oh, it's a community, okay, okay. Because I
- 27:09Speaker 2: felt like you, I was lost. I didn't have nobody
- 27:12Speaker 2: that was understanding.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I felt like I was the only person alive with it,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and I felt like it was punishment because I was like,
- 27:20Speaker 1: these doctors can't even pronounce it correctly, And I'm like,
- 27:24Speaker 1: how you adopted and you can't but and whatever else
- 27:33Speaker 1: we got going on.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Let's not talk about WFB here all day.
- 27:38Speaker 1: You know that this month is coming to an end,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and this month was a hydro siphilis awareness month. Is
- 27:47Speaker 1: there anything special that you've done that you feel you
- 27:54Speaker 1: wouldn't have been able to do otherwise now because it
- 28:02Speaker 1: or say or just in general in general?
- 28:04Speaker 2: Okay, in general, I am definitely doing something that I
- 28:12Speaker 2: never thought I would do, nor did the doctors think
- 28:14Speaker 2: I would do, because you know, they give you the
- 28:16Speaker 2: death sentions of fining a business and you ain't gonna
- 28:19Speaker 2: be nothing to them in the corner and the suits
- 28:21Speaker 2: and leave them now. It's like Scenarrow. So yeah, I
- 28:25Speaker 2: was sold. I was not gonna be able to walk.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I was not gonna be able to function on my own.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I was not gonna be able to do anything. I'm
- 28:32Speaker 2: living by myself. I'm actually doing online learning online college campus.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I just started being a volunteer to greet people for
- 28:41Speaker 2: new students, and I'm in my third I'm going into
- 28:44Speaker 2: my fourth quarter. Yeah, into my fourth quarter and third quarter.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I got straight as my EPA is four point Oh
- 28:52Speaker 2: won't you do it? Won't do it? Yeah, And that's god,
- 29:00Speaker 2: that's nothing, but guy, because when I tell you, I
- 29:02Speaker 2: didn't see myself doing nobody's college know nothing like that
- 29:05Speaker 2: at getting a degree of closing. Yeah, that's that's nothing.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Doctors has seen that. Sometimes I wish the doctors was
- 29:12Speaker 2: still alive because I'm only not here probably, but yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 2: I wish it was allied. Yeah, no, you don't know,
- 29:18Speaker 2: my god, no, he got the final face up.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I remember.
- 29:26Speaker 1: When I was adopted, they had a and remind me
- 29:33Speaker 1: to show it to you. There's a thing in the
- 29:37Speaker 1: paper that they put in the paper, I guess trying
- 29:41Speaker 1: to get somebody to adopt me and stuff like that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And my grandmother biological, she clipped it out the paper
- 29:51Speaker 1: and saved it, like almost like she knew that they
- 29:55Speaker 1: were gonna find me. The way that they worded things
- 30:02Speaker 1: dealing with the hydrocephalist and the spine of bit for
- 30:04Speaker 1: the and being that I was a baby. I was
- 30:08Speaker 1: eighteen months old when I got adopted. It's crazy like
- 30:14Speaker 1: they had this whole, like half a page of the
- 30:20Speaker 1: newspaper where they had a picture. Yeah, they had a
- 30:25Speaker 1: picture of me, a description of what I was dealing with.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And the one word, the one word that stuck out
- 30:34Speaker 1: to me because of brain surgery, they said that I
- 30:38Speaker 1: was retarded. That was the word that they chose to use.
- 30:43Speaker 2: That's what they try to say when they're telling the
- 30:45Speaker 2: parents put them on the institutions of we're gonna be flapped.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I was supposed to be institutionalized.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 1: The one thing I can say about my mom is
- 31:02Speaker 1: she wouldn't going for none of that. She went right
- 31:05Speaker 1: ahead and stuck me in in regular education with the
- 31:10Speaker 1: rest of the people.
- 31:11Speaker 2: And today.
- 31:15Speaker 1: I had no issues with retaining anything except for math.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Math is of the devil. I don't care who who
- 31:24Speaker 1: who like it, who love it or whatever.
- 31:29Speaker 2: We don't. We're here to tell you right now. Do
- 31:32Speaker 2: not like that.
- 31:35Speaker 1: It's a common thing, like you can actually google it.
- 31:39Speaker 1: People that have hydrocephalis and struggle with math, And it's
- 31:47Speaker 1: the craziest thing. But and I wouldn't wish it on
- 31:52Speaker 1: anybody because those sleep, those sleepless nights that I endure
- 31:59Speaker 1: a lot. It's just it's hard because I be wanting
- 32:03Speaker 1: to hit somebody up. You awake you awake, you awake,
- 32:06Speaker 1: you up.
- 32:07Speaker 2: That's why I keep my phone off with you crazy.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I love you, but I'm won't get you up when
- 32:14Speaker 2: I get up, get set. So I'm about to, like
- 32:18Speaker 2: twelve one o'clock you want to play for us, but
- 32:23Speaker 2: if I see get you up to get up. I
- 32:27Speaker 2: love you, though I.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Know I love you too. I was trying to think.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you, how does living with the
- 32:39Speaker 1: disability affect you? Going to school and doing all of
- 32:46Speaker 1: all of that and having a social life and stuff.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Social life? So life life, This is my supposal life.
- 32:54Speaker 2: You're my supposed to life. Oh my goodness, how does
- 32:58Speaker 2: it effect well? I I can't really say it affects
- 33:01Speaker 2: too much because my adopted mother was no I really
- 33:04Speaker 2: would speaker could have met her and my parents, because
- 33:07Speaker 2: I promise you she was no joke. From the age
- 33:10Speaker 2: of as long as I remember, probably fifty years old,
- 33:13Speaker 2: maybe I can probably go that far. She didn't play,
- 33:16Speaker 2: She did not never. She never treated me like I
- 33:19Speaker 2: was just saying. She would never let my dad do it.
- 33:22Speaker 2: She never no, because she's gonna have to fun on
- 33:25Speaker 2: her own. She's gonna to herself. And so when I
- 33:28Speaker 2: got old enough to learn how to, you know, cook
- 33:30Speaker 2: for myself or cook and help her cook. She was like, yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 2: you better figure it out. If you're gonna stop, you
- 33:36Speaker 2: better know how to do this. But she always spoke
- 33:39Speaker 2: things over my life that I in my mind could
- 33:44Speaker 2: not even fathom. She would speak over marriage, she would
- 33:47Speaker 2: speak over me going to college. He would speak over
- 33:50Speaker 2: me driving. She saw things in me because she said,
- 33:53Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong with me, right, She said, you may
- 33:57Speaker 2: have something physically wrong, and you can't do a lot
- 33:59Speaker 2: of things physically, but there's nothing wrong with you, she said.
- 34:03Speaker 2: And that was this is the one thing she always said.
- 34:05Speaker 2: You could do anything you put your mind. He said,
- 34:09Speaker 2: I found that out at the age of two and
- 34:11Speaker 2: a half three years old, when you told me in
- 34:13Speaker 2: the car with miraculously, I'm gonna walk on me. And
- 34:16Speaker 2: she said she didn't know what to do with that,
- 34:18Speaker 2: because she said, where'd that come from? Obviously God, because
- 34:23Speaker 2: she said, I just busted out saying it at three
- 34:26Speaker 2: years I probably started walking around three years old, my
- 34:29Speaker 2: sister at eighty three almost three years old. Yeah, around three.
- 34:35Speaker 2: So she was like, you were determined, she said, So
- 34:37Speaker 2: I know you determined to do whatever you want. So
- 34:41Speaker 2: living on my own has been a different change of
- 34:44Speaker 2: pace because this is the first time I've ever done that.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I went from being a girlfriend, being a fiance, being
- 34:49Speaker 2: a wife to being separated divorce. So I'm like, oh, father,
- 34:55Speaker 2: this is a heck of a path we're going on.
- 34:58Speaker 2: But it's been answer because why Because I'm able to
- 35:02Speaker 2: now put into action which I was already doing anyway,
- 35:07Speaker 2: but put into actions how to take care of myself.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not saying I wouldn't like a partners.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I'm not saying I with my department, but I don't
- 35:18Speaker 2: need right, you know what I'm saying, because my mom
- 35:21Speaker 2: taught me everything. I take here of my own stuff.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I handed my bills, I handled whatever I need, grocery delivered,
- 35:28Speaker 2: Thank God to have that now, so is delivered. You
- 35:31Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. I handle my own I set
- 35:33Speaker 2: up my own insurance so I get my fans to
- 35:35Speaker 2: pation so I can go to the doctor. So nobody
- 35:38Speaker 2: has to come and help me. Because why, Because I'm
- 35:40Speaker 2: trying to make sure that I don't have to depend
- 35:43Speaker 2: upon nobody. My mom never wanted that, so depending upon
- 35:46Speaker 2: people is not where of that far. So I don't
- 35:49Speaker 2: want to have to go back and do that when
- 35:50Speaker 2: I need you or I owe you for doing this.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Mama always said, if you don't have to ask, don't,
- 35:56Speaker 2: don't you're gonna owe somebody and you don't need that.
- 36:00Speaker 1: And everybody that says if you need anything called, they
- 36:05Speaker 1: don't mean it, because the minute you call, you go
- 36:10Speaker 1: straight the voicemail or you've got to hear some type
- 36:13Speaker 1: of excuse or whatever.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, oh god, I do it myself.
- 36:24Speaker 1: We're about to come to a close. Yeah, And I
- 36:28Speaker 1: just wanted to know if there's anything that you would
- 36:33Speaker 1: like to put out in the atmosphere for maybe a
- 36:38Speaker 1: child that is growing up that has hydrocephalus and in
- 36:45Speaker 1: school and trying to maintain a good grade because you've
- 36:51Speaker 1: been doing you've been doing a dang one things since
- 36:54Speaker 1: you've been in college and this. Yeah. Yeah, So if
- 37:03Speaker 1: there's anything that you want to say before we head
- 37:06Speaker 1: out the floor, is yours?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Okay? Well, Antonio, thank you for that beautiful message. You see,
- 37:15Speaker 2: we're fine, we're crazy. But as for parents and students,
- 37:21Speaker 2: you know who know they have hide your sisters. I
- 37:25Speaker 2: just say, let's your child be let them, let them,
- 37:28Speaker 2: let him go up and be where they're supposed to be.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Let God do what he's gonna do with them. Pray
- 37:33Speaker 2: over there, pray over the baby, keep them covered because
- 37:38Speaker 2: people don't understand that the doctors don't know everything. Because
- 37:45Speaker 2: I promise you God got the final pay. I wasn't
- 37:48Speaker 2: supposed to do nothing with my life. And when I
- 37:51Speaker 2: tell you, I look back over my life and be like, Father,
- 37:55Speaker 2: what were we doing here? I mean, this lady right here
- 37:59Speaker 2: made me an offer through the Father because listening because
- 38:02Speaker 2: I didn't see none of that happened, and I was like,
- 38:04Speaker 2: oh no, I write what I want to do that,
- 38:09Speaker 2: so don't stop you.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I just feel like everybody has a story to tell,
- 38:16Speaker 1: and being that were born with disabilities and being adopted,
- 38:22Speaker 1: there's so much, you know, we can pull apart and
- 38:27Speaker 1: share with others so that they might be able to urge.
- 38:31Speaker 2: We're here to encourage people and it sounds bad to say,
- 38:35Speaker 2: but it's not bad to say because we most disabled
- 38:38Speaker 2: people don't want to be that inspiration for you. But
- 38:42Speaker 2: in general, that's what God made us to be in
- 38:45Speaker 2: a way because why because He wants you to see that,
- 38:48Speaker 2: Oh you being lazy by what you're doing. Look at
- 38:50Speaker 2: what they're doing, and they got to fight a hard
- 38:53Speaker 2: and fight to get to what you're trying to do. Right,
- 38:56Speaker 2: so it's like, are you kidding me? You really just
- 39:00Speaker 2: gonna be killing? And that's what Goda saying, y'all gonna
- 39:03Speaker 2: get killing and these people are out here doing it.
- 39:06Speaker 2: So yeah, well, we we're here to do what God
- 39:09Speaker 2: wanted to do. And if that's an inspire.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Absolutely you sure. Later well, I would like to thank
- 39:22Speaker 1: everybody for tuning in tonight to delay but not deny
- 39:26Speaker 1: the podcast. We will be back the second Monday and
- 39:32Speaker 1: fourth Friday of October. October is spin a bit for
- 39:38Speaker 1: their awareness.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Much so we'll be back.
- 39:41Speaker 1: We will definitely be back and we'll discuss find a
- 39:45Speaker 1: bit for them what that's like and hopefully educate some
- 39:51Speaker 1: people and hopefully, yeah, and educate and inspire because we
- 39:56Speaker 1: want we want the family to be able to understand
- 39:59Speaker 1: that that.
- 40:02Speaker 2: They can go and do whatever they want, absolutely whatever
- 40:06Speaker 2: they want. Don't look at your child and think that
- 40:07Speaker 2: they have limitations, because they don't. I promise you. My
- 40:10Speaker 2: mama didn't give me none. I got to think like
- 40:14Speaker 2: everybody else, Listen, I got it all. I was a
- 40:16Speaker 2: normal child.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I definitely was treated normally to a certain degree, I'll say,
- 40:25Speaker 1: because my mama treated me like flying China, like if
- 40:30Speaker 1: you touch me, she's gonna break, and so.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Couldn't.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a lot of things I couldn't. I
- 40:39Speaker 1: couldn't do because my mom was scared, so he was nervous.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not I don't understand.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I know, you know it at all, not even a
- 40:51Speaker 1: little bit.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I mean, you had your baby, but you didn't treat
- 40:55Speaker 2: him like that, so you know you let him deep. Yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 2: so I get that. I get yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So, but again, thank you for co hosting tonight. I
- 41:06Speaker 1: look forward to the fourth Friday of October so that
- 41:10Speaker 1: we can do it again. I want to tell my
- 41:15Speaker 1: my audience thank you for stopping by and checking us out,
- 41:19Speaker 1: seeing what we do. Come back again. The conversation is
- 41:25Speaker 1: always different. So yeah, that's all I got. So thank
- 41:30Speaker 1: y'all for coming out. God bless you tonight.
- 41:41Speaker 2: HM
