- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell mom hello, and welcome back to No Dribble.
- 0:23Speaker 2: This is the second time I've started this introduction because
- 0:25Speaker 2: I just said welcome back to New Dribble and then
- 0:27Speaker 2: I dropped some expletives that are not suitable for this podcast,
- 0:31Speaker 2: and so we had to start again. I have a
- 0:33Speaker 2: coffee in front of me, and I may drink it,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and lovely Catherine has bought some lollies again in this
- 0:39Speaker 2: week for me, which I appreciate. But anyway, I'm Carolyn
- 0:42Speaker 2: Swindle and I'm slowly waking up.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I'm Catherine Cox, and I'm wide away because I've been
- 0:46Speaker 1: into the lollies.
- 0:48Speaker 3: And I'm lozellous and I'm on cyclone.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Watch you are battening down the hatches up there?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Now what does that mean?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Look, well, living up here, we went through the twenty
- 0:58Speaker 4: twenty two floods, so it's just a bit of rinse
- 1:02Speaker 4: and repeat part of the pun. So like, I am
- 1:05Speaker 4: really quite worried, not for us, but for places like Lismore,
- 1:08Speaker 4: where there is still a lot of damage that hasn't
- 1:10Speaker 4: been repaired from those floods, so.
- 1:13Speaker 3: That's sort of where my concern is.
- 1:14Speaker 4: But so all it means is that we spent yesterday
- 1:17Speaker 4: taking down the shade sales over the pool and getting
- 1:20Speaker 4: all of our outdoor furniture and putting it inside. Just
- 1:22Speaker 4: looking to lock up any sort of loose things that
- 1:25Speaker 4: might be hanging around, as you can imagine.
- 1:27Speaker 3: On a farm.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I've got a husband who just likes to leave stuff
- 1:29Speaker 4: lying around over near your shed. So just making sure
- 1:31Speaker 4: that that's okay. There's not a lot you can do.
- 1:34Speaker 4: I've been out shopping this morning. I've bought some boutane containers.
- 1:37Speaker 4: We've got like a little bhutane gas stove that we
- 1:39Speaker 4: took with us and we went traveling, so we've got that.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Just making sure that that's sort of out and ready
- 1:45Speaker 4: to go, making sure we've got batteries in the torches,
- 1:48Speaker 4: got a few candles.
- 1:49Speaker 1: This is full on and people obviously don't know your place,
- 1:52Speaker 1: but it's a kilometer long driveway that goes up a hill,
- 1:55Speaker 1: so you have been flooded in your house before, so
- 1:58Speaker 1: this is actually stuff that you genuine on. We need
- 2:00Speaker 1: to think about it. Isn't it stocking up?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah it is, but we're sort of pretty used to it, right.
- 2:04Speaker 4: So we've got some spare watering containers because the moment
- 2:08Speaker 4: the electricity goes off, and in a big storm, the
- 2:10Speaker 4: electricity goes off because trees get blown over the power lines.
- 2:13Speaker 4: So the moment the electricity goes off, we actually can't
- 2:15Speaker 4: access our water because the pump is electric.
- 2:19Speaker 3: So it's going to make sure we've got some water containers.
- 2:22Speaker 4: And yeah, it's just enough food to get us through
- 2:24Speaker 4: a few days, because if we get a massive amount
- 2:26Speaker 4: of rain, which they're talking about, our driveway goes underwater.
- 2:30Speaker 3: So just really crucial things like fit coffee, oh god, coffee.
- 2:36Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:36Speaker 4: The good news is that when we built our place, Matthew,
- 2:38Speaker 4: as you would not cattle because you've been there way
- 2:41Speaker 4: too many times for your own good Matthew built a
- 2:42Speaker 4: cellar and the celleries, I've always joked, is also our
- 2:47Speaker 4: cyclone shelter. And then we can go down there and
- 2:49Speaker 4: all we need to take is really a couple of
- 2:51Speaker 4: nice big red wine.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Glasses and.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Some crackers.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I don't know what the children are going to do,
- 2:58Speaker 4: but lo, this is all resilience. Yeah, exactly, exactly, look
- 3:03Speaker 4: after yourself.
- 3:04Speaker 2: At what point do you not send them to school? Like, so,
- 3:07Speaker 2: is this the day that you're thinking it's going to hit.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's like, well you got to stay home because it's
- 3:10Speaker 2: like you can't have them stuck at school.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Law, whatever what happens.
- 3:14Speaker 3: But we could make the cyclone shelter so much more.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Do you know what we've actually we've not had a
- 3:21Speaker 4: cyclone before. We've had big East Coast lows come in,
- 3:23Speaker 4: which are like just a little grade down from a cyclone.
- 3:27Speaker 3: You know what. You just you're stuck it.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And see you just wait until you wake up and
- 3:30Speaker 4: then you know, I don't know if you'll go to
- 3:32Speaker 4: school today. We listen to ABC Radio because they've got
- 3:35Speaker 4: all of the emergency broadcast.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I don't know, We'll just you know what, I grew up.
- 3:40Speaker 4: On the Hawks, remember, right at winds up, So I
- 3:43Speaker 4: grew up going seeing like flooding emergencies and stuff firsthand.
- 3:47Speaker 4: And then you move up here and you see the
- 3:50Speaker 4: flooding emergencies and so you just take your usual precautions.
- 3:53Speaker 4: We'll just wait to see when we wake up on
- 3:56Speaker 4: or I won't be here. I've been Sydney on Thursday.
- 3:58Speaker 4: We'll wait to see how the how it all looks
- 4:01Speaker 4: on Thursday morning and Matthew will make a call and
- 4:03Speaker 4: I just hope that I can my flight can land
- 4:05Speaker 4: on Thursday afternoon.
- 4:06Speaker 1: What about cattle, What do you do with your cattle?
- 4:09Speaker 3: You just make sure they're on high grand.
- 4:11Speaker 4: So the twenty twenty two floods that the water ray
- 4:14Speaker 4: rose really quickly and we had cattle down on the flats.
- 4:18Speaker 4: So our places were on the airhouses on hill. But
- 4:21Speaker 4: we've got acres and acres of flats which has a
- 4:23Speaker 4: creep running through it, and that area there is where
- 4:26Speaker 4: it floods. And we actually had some cattle on a
- 4:29Speaker 4: neighbors sort of flats and the creek goes right up
- 4:33Speaker 4: there and that whole flat goes under. And about three
- 4:35Speaker 4: am Matthew's phone rang and it was our next one
- 4:37Speaker 4: a saying.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Matthew, get out any cattle swimming?
- 4:41Speaker 4: Yeah, So Matthew and Warren next allighver we're out swimming cattle,
- 4:46Speaker 4: like in the middle of the night. It was teeming
- 4:48Speaker 4: with ray and it was so and sadly we lost
- 4:53Speaker 4: some cattle in that event. So you just have to.
- 4:55Speaker 4: We've let the lesson. Now you just have to just
- 4:57Speaker 4: move them on high ground. So we've only got some
- 5:00Speaker 4: cattle in that paddock. It's a maternity paddic at the moment,
- 5:03Speaker 4: so I've got some cows and calves. So we'll just
- 5:05Speaker 4: today or tomorrow when Matthew gets home, we'll just move
- 5:08Speaker 4: them up the hill.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Imagine living in the country, so much more work.
- 5:15Speaker 1: The door to the balcony. I'm already well in to stop.
- 5:20Speaker 1: What I will be devastated about is if I don't
- 5:22Speaker 1: have Liz come to visit me on Wednesday, which is playing.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I know that is the plan, so we'll see how
- 5:27Speaker 4: we go. But look, to be honest, lady, that is
- 5:28Speaker 4: the least of my problems. I need to share with
- 5:30Speaker 4: you a couple of things, stupid things that my kids
- 5:32Speaker 4: did this week, and it's probably makes a cyclone really
- 5:35Speaker 4: easy to deal with. So my kids, I try and
- 5:37Speaker 4: make them be resilient, and I try and make them
- 5:41Speaker 4: do their own stuff.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So I mean to my children and call it.
- 5:45Speaker 4: You know, when you're a ship pairent, you know, it's
- 5:50Speaker 4: just about their resilience. It's giving them the opportunity to
- 5:52Speaker 4: make their own mistakes. But last Friday night, Austin played
- 5:56Speaker 4: cricket at his home club and there's actually like a
- 5:59Speaker 4: bowling club there, so we got him a little cheeseburger.
- 6:01Speaker 4: But being the good parents we are, we're sitting up
- 6:04Speaker 4: because it was raining, We're sitting up in the club
- 6:05Speaker 4: having a Friday afternoon beer while he was playing, and
- 6:08Speaker 4: we didn't see that he'd hoed into all the freet sausages.
- 6:10Speaker 3: So we got him his cheeseburger. Didn't eat them.
- 6:12Speaker 4: He gets up the next morning and he's he's playing
- 6:15Speaker 4: cricket again and I could I could smell something burnie,
- 6:19Speaker 4: and I walked out to the kitchen. I said, mate,
- 6:21Speaker 4: have you got something in the air fray? He goes, yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 4: I've got my cheeseburger and chips.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And I'm like, that's weird. That's a weird smell. He
- 6:27Speaker 3: kept it in the cardboard.
- 6:31Speaker 1: No how to use that? Has he done that before?
- 6:37Speaker 4: Oh?
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he's air frail literate. He's fine.
- 6:39Speaker 4: My kids put stuff in the air fray all the
- 6:40Speaker 4: time because because I need to learn how to look
- 6:43Speaker 4: after themselves when I'm not here. So oh and Matthew
- 6:47Speaker 4: is here, but he's not as good a cook as me.
- 6:48Speaker 4: So yeah, that was the first thing. I was like, mate,
- 6:50Speaker 4: you never put cardboard in the air fry. So we
- 6:52Speaker 4: had opened the whole house because and then fast forward
- 6:57Speaker 4: to Thursday. So on Thursday I was in Melbourn because
- 7:00Speaker 4: I had the Australia Board meeting on Friday. And I
- 7:03Speaker 4: rang Evely on Thursday afternoon and she's she's thirteen. She
- 7:06Speaker 4: come home from school, so she has a little paddic
- 7:10Speaker 4: basher that she drives up and down the driveway by herself.
- 7:12Speaker 4: So she's quite mature. So she gets in the car
- 7:15Speaker 4: and she drives up the driveway. And Matthew and Austin
- 7:17Speaker 4: were out at cricket training and I rang around. I
- 7:19Speaker 4: said have you and I had left out of lasagna
- 7:21Speaker 4: that I'd cooked and it was deep frosting and she
- 7:23Speaker 4: was going to put in the oven. And I rang
- 7:24Speaker 4: he at about six and said have you put the
- 7:26Speaker 4: lazagnia in the abune? She goes, yeah, yeap, smells great.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I said, did you take the plastic off?
- 7:30Speaker 3: And I was joking, she.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Know melted a lot.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I'm on the phone.
- 7:39Speaker 4: She does what I said, okay, okay, just been really slow.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I didn't want her to come out, grab something out
- 7:44Speaker 4: of the oven and not be spart. She pulled it
- 7:45Speaker 4: out and she was devastated off.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Well, mathe got over. That's what I did, just scraped
- 7:51Speaker 3: it all after grab the board. Jeson. Anyway, so I
- 7:57Speaker 3: started to call her el plasticoat and it's not going down.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Well oh my gosh.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yeah, so looking fucking stop the kids from burning the
- 8:04Speaker 4: house and we should survive cyclone.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Alfred Spikeline Alfred's at Doddle.
- 8:08Speaker 2: My mother in law did that once. She served us
- 8:10Speaker 2: up some garlic. But we're making a fence out in
- 8:12Speaker 2: the front. She thought I'll take them out some snacks,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and so I just sort of turned it over and said, kids,
- 8:16Speaker 2: we're just tap the top part of this, because the
- 8:18Speaker 2: whole logo was on the bottom of it. Friend just melted.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I think grandma might have forgotten something a step in
- 8:26Speaker 2: this process.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yep.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think if you're fourteen or maybe eighty four,
- 8:31Speaker 4: you're more.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Likely to do that.
- 8:33Speaker 1: That's okay, We're okay. You mentioned your board meeting on Friday.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We know he had a board meeting on Friday because
- 8:40Speaker 1: you weren't at lunch with us.
- 8:42Speaker 4: No, I know that you know how I know that
- 8:45Speaker 4: because I was in my board meeting and I had
- 8:46Speaker 4: to turn my phone over because photos kept mopping up
- 8:49Speaker 4: and you treat his heads at lunch, and so I thought,
- 8:52Speaker 4: I cannot be distracted.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I need to focus.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Look I got over the four six.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Oh look at you go for things are really improving.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's a great isn't it. But we had
- 9:00Speaker 1: this brain wave and it was actually off something that
- 9:03Speaker 1: you had spoken about. So I remember Grand Final circa
- 9:06Speaker 1: were you were pregnant, so.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Would have been twenty ten, twenty eleven because everyone was
- 9:12Speaker 4: born in the end of twenty eleven.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Twenty eleven Grand Final. We were in Brisbane and we
- 9:16Speaker 1: had a big dinner after the Grand Final, so all
- 9:19Speaker 1: of the crew from Channel nine went out for dinner.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Liz was pregnant, so she's not drinking. So I had
- 9:23Speaker 1: this great plan to keep it was a.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Channel ten that's how That's how loose it was. Chuntle ten.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah, oh god, that was a long time ago. Anyway,
- 9:31Speaker 1: Liz is keeping notes of the event. Obviously we're all
- 9:35Speaker 1: oblivious to the fact, God knows what's going on in
- 9:37Speaker 1: conversation until the next day where this email comes out
- 9:42Speaker 1: and basically a narrative of however evening had played out.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I hope you've still got that somewhere to this day.
- 9:48Speaker 1: One of the funniest things I have read. Anyway. I
- 9:52Speaker 1: was telling these guys at lunch, so Carlin pulled out
- 9:55Speaker 1: no pattern and the pen oh we might actually keep No.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I pulled this out before that and said, I'm going
- 10:00Speaker 2: to take some notes of this today because yeah, this
- 10:03Speaker 2: is a practice that I have been involved in for
- 10:05Speaker 2: quite some time, right as you remember, Yes, we did,
- 10:09Speaker 2: because we did pinpoint the whole thing back to her.
- 10:12Speaker 1: She was the woman came up with the idea that
- 10:13Speaker 1: had told Liz a thousand moons ago.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But we had to ring Liz to get that, and
- 10:17Speaker 2: you went, what was that story? And then Liz said, yeah, no,
- 10:19Speaker 2: it's not a good story. And then but it was
- 10:21Speaker 2: actually Carolyn, so we won't repeat it.
- 10:24Speaker 4: No, but no, it was not a good Sorry, but
- 10:26Speaker 4: I will say when I was sitting there sober as
- 10:28Speaker 4: a judge, intensely pregnant, taking notes, I was like, is.
- 10:32Speaker 3: This what I sound like? It's just ridiculous.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Oh dear, yeah, some crazy stuff does come out. What
- 10:40Speaker 1: did we have on our list? Anything that well?
- 10:42Speaker 2: Nothing that bears repeating here at the moment. We did
- 10:45Speaker 2: measure our hands and what a surprise, your hands are
- 10:47Speaker 2: bigger than my hands. Anyway, there was a lot of
- 10:51Speaker 2: googling that we did. Catholic smart blokes, not dumb dumbs.
- 10:55Speaker 2: There we go, did you to note? Mandy wrote that
- 10:58Speaker 2: anyone listening, there we go? Oh no, that was this
- 11:00Speaker 2: actually was a good one. We did make a promise
- 11:02Speaker 2: no one's allowed to go shopping after we've been at
- 11:04Speaker 2: lunch today because last time we went to lunch, you said, oh,
- 11:07Speaker 2: it's Black Friday. Have you've been getting around this? And
- 11:09Speaker 2: you told us about these vouchers for this restaurant, and
- 11:12Speaker 2: so we got on and bought hundreds of dollars of
- 11:14Speaker 2: these vouchers to a restaurant we'd never been to, but
- 11:17Speaker 2: that's where we ended up at lunch on Friday. But
- 11:20Speaker 2: she did actually have a really good one. And this
- 11:22Speaker 2: is the power stance. So if you are going to
- 11:25Speaker 2: do something like a job interview or something that you
- 11:28Speaker 2: really want to do well at to stand in the
- 11:31Speaker 2: position like wonder woman with the hands on the hips,
- 11:34Speaker 2: really powerful stance. Do that for two minutes. Apparently we'll
- 11:38Speaker 2: release testosterone and bring a higher level of performance for
- 11:41Speaker 2: something that you're nervous about. So you know, if you've
- 11:44Speaker 2: got something you want to do, let's all adopt the
- 11:46Speaker 2: power stance beforehand. Get your hands off your hips, Catherine.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You look, I've even got socks down my pants again,
- 11:57Speaker 1: just to off the anti. Now, did you get your
- 11:59Speaker 1: girls to do this before the weekend, because if you remember, oh,
- 12:03Speaker 1: that doesn't sound positive. You're playing for third and four? Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you said, imber have Yeah. Does that mean you came fourth?
- 12:10Speaker 2: No, it means we came third. Yeah, and quite convincingly.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 12:13Speaker 2: And then we were whisked off to some bogus presentation afterwards.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So this is the playoff for third and fourth, so
- 12:20Speaker 2: it's nothing right, But then we had to listen to
- 12:22Speaker 2: this long speech by the people running the competition, and
- 12:25Speaker 2: then the girls were all given a ribbon. It was
- 12:27Speaker 2: exactly the same ribbon for third or fourth. It's like,
- 12:28Speaker 2: we don't give them a ribbon then, like there's no,
- 12:30Speaker 2: there's no point anyway. We appreciated that they were organizing
- 12:33Speaker 2: the comp and my god, I don't want to be
- 12:35Speaker 2: doing that job. But these like, oh, you're doing a presentation,
- 12:39Speaker 2: and we thought we were going to watch someone else
- 12:40Speaker 2: get a Grand Final presentation. But it's like, no, no,
- 12:43Speaker 2: this is two teams that played off for third and
- 12:44Speaker 2: fourth in different divisions, so none of us care. Can
- 12:47Speaker 2: we just go, oh wow, yeah, that's intense. Yeah, it
- 12:50Speaker 2: is intense propaganda.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We call it kind of a nice man. Yeah, it
- 12:55Speaker 1: don't make us feel any worse about the fact we're
- 12:56Speaker 1: not in the Grand Final.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But I forgot to talk to you about something, Lizid.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I was a little bit worried about cat last week.
- 13:02Speaker 2: So I got a text message in the morning and
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'm out of the bed looking immediately, and it's like,
- 13:07Speaker 2: have you got have you got something? Maybe a biography
- 13:09Speaker 2: type thing I can read? I need to get into reading.
- 13:11Speaker 2: So I pulled some stuff off the shelf and Dot
- 13:13Speaker 2: said to me, I, reckon, she's been hacked, but you've
- 13:22Speaker 2: decided to get into reading more.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Can we just get how old your daughter? Eleven? I
- 13:26Speaker 1: had an eleven year old? Absolutely school me.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Correct, How good is that?
- 13:34Speaker 4: No?
- 13:34Speaker 1: It was not hacked, but was just thinking, you know,
- 13:37Speaker 1: how I was rabbiting on last week, how I'm doing
- 13:40Speaker 1: this genetic sequencing blah blah blah and should be doing
- 13:43Speaker 1: all these other things. I thought, I don't I'm not
- 13:44Speaker 1: a reader, Like I'd rather sit down and kill brain
- 13:47Speaker 1: cells watching the Kardashians, to quote unquotely zealous. But I
- 13:51Speaker 1: thought I should make more of an effort to read
- 13:53Speaker 1: a book. But as we have discussed before, it's got
- 13:56Speaker 1: to be good otherwise I will lose interest very very quickly.
- 14:00Speaker 1: How much? How much have I started reading of the
- 14:02Speaker 1: two books you gave me last week? Ye?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Okay, well, at least so I've given you Becky Lucas's
- 14:08Speaker 2: book Acknowledgment because it's they're good little essays and you
- 14:12Speaker 2: can just read them individually. And Richard Glover's book can't
- 14:15Speaker 2: remember what it was called, but the Flesh Wounds or something,
- 14:18Speaker 2: because it's just a really good life story. But I
- 14:21Speaker 2: think you might have been expecting me to come with
- 14:23Speaker 2: I do have Shane warn my story. Buy someone else
- 14:26Speaker 2: I could bring that for you. It's not a terrific
- 14:29Speaker 2: read some great pictures in it.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I do need a few pictures in the middle just
- 14:33Speaker 1: to keep my interest up.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Anyway, So are you you, Catherine, you tend to read
- 14:37Speaker 4: more biographies or order?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yes, like I feel like Elene Docketch's book would be
- 14:43Speaker 1: a good read for me. We'll get onto that one.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I'll find it somewhere that's sort of just interesting sporting stuff,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, got a bit of a backstory. My last
- 14:53Speaker 1: book was Slash from Guns and Roses, and I told
- 14:55Speaker 1: you about fascinating and there's some good pictures in that one.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Oh, Catherine, I've tried, Carolyn.
- 15:04Speaker 4: So I really do appreciate the fact that you are
- 15:06Speaker 4: stepping up to this challenge of getting Catherine to read
- 15:08Speaker 4: more and trying to find her books that she were like,
- 15:11Speaker 4: can you see the cyclones coming in?
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:13Speaker 2: You really are starting to blow quite strongly.
- 15:15Speaker 1: There are you?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Okay?
- 15:15Speaker 4: Then fine, days before it gets really bad. I don't
- 15:19Speaker 4: think the heavy stuffs coming down quite some time.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Do you ever read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yes? I did.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Do you remember what an amazing hacker she was? Yes,
- 15:29Speaker 2: the computer hacker. So I read that and I said
- 15:31Speaker 2: to my husband, I would like to be a computer hacker.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Now this is quite funny because I have very limited
- 15:36Speaker 2: text skills, But in the past week I have demonstrated
- 15:40Speaker 2: that I can transcend being a ludd eyed and our website.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I've done it again in the last week. But the
- 15:47Speaker 2: one thing I have done that I am so excited
- 15:49Speaker 2: about and took me hours and hours and hours to
- 15:53Speaker 2: work out how to do it. You can now go
- 15:55Speaker 2: on to our website, hit record and record a wind
- 15:59Speaker 2: beneath our wing nomination on the Nobody dot com dot
- 16:02Speaker 2: au website and it just says, hit here and record
- 16:06Speaker 2: speak loudly and clearly, and it comes through it. It
- 16:09Speaker 2: couldn't be easier.
- 16:10Speaker 1: So I'm going to give that a run. Later, I'm
- 16:12Speaker 1: going to send your message. Yeah, I would like no
- 16:14Speaker 1: one else gets to hear it though, right, No, okay.
- 16:16Speaker 2: So sure, okay, let's agree on Carolyn, if you're nominating me,
- 16:22Speaker 2: it will go no. So that that's I feel an
- 16:25Speaker 2: enormous sense of satisfaction. I hated it and it was
- 16:29Speaker 2: very hard for me, but it was one of those
- 16:31Speaker 2: things that I just thought, surely, surely I can work
- 16:34Speaker 2: out how to do this if I just stay calm.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Thank you. Maybe there's a job in there somewhere down
- 16:39Speaker 1: the track for you. Liz is going to be what
- 16:41Speaker 1: is she going to be again? Governor general? You could
- 16:43Speaker 1: be some secret service spy or something or other.
- 16:46Speaker 4: No.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I like the Yeah, I like the idea of being
- 16:48Speaker 2: a hacker, but honestly, I don't think it fits my
- 16:50Speaker 2: skill pro I think.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You need some big glasses if you're going to be
- 16:52Speaker 1: a hacker. Oh okay, I want to start a new SEGM.
- 17:01Speaker 3: And the reason we should we have workshop this at
- 17:04Speaker 3: a meeting.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Before. Now ahead, Okay, I was today years old when
- 17:12Speaker 1: I learned that, because I found out something last week
- 17:16Speaker 1: that at nearly fifty, I feel like I should have
- 17:19Speaker 1: known before. Now what's that? It shocked me? So you
- 17:22Speaker 1: know the numbers on your toaster with the dial? You
- 17:26Speaker 1: know what? Therefore, yes, I know what? What are they for?
- 17:30Speaker 2: How much you want your toast toasted?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah? But what do they represent? When you say that?
- 17:34Speaker 3: What do you mean the length of time the toasts in?
- 17:37Speaker 1: It is? It's minutes? I didn't know that. I thought
- 17:40Speaker 1: it was one was lightly toasted too, was a bit more.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I didn't know it was actually minutes. So it's one minute,
- 17:45Speaker 1: two minutes, three minutes.
- 17:47Speaker 3: There's a correlation though if it's of course.
- 17:50Speaker 1: But technically it is minutes. Now our produce is about
- 17:52Speaker 1: to jump in because she's like gen Y thinking, oh
- 17:55Speaker 1: my god, what's wrong with you?
- 17:56Speaker 4: I think that might be a myth because I know
- 17:58Speaker 4: that some toasters, even the one in the office, and
- 18:01Speaker 4: something goes up to about a six, and I don't
- 18:03Speaker 4: think we're putting.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I think that would be as Okay, I heard this
- 18:09Speaker 1: on the radio the other day, so I take it
- 18:12Speaker 1: as gospel. What radio station doesn't matter.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Because eOne wanting to nail the put a nail through
- 18:19Speaker 2: the head of their penis on this radio station. You
- 18:22Speaker 2: might want to not listen to that one.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Okay. I have got another one for you though, too,
- 18:28Speaker 1: This one I only know about five years ago. You
- 18:31Speaker 1: know your petrol gauge or you're the picture of the
- 18:35Speaker 1: little petrol tank on your dashboard. Yep, you to that.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that is the greatest thing. I heard that fiefee box.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I heard that on radio once too.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So when did you find this out?
- 18:45Speaker 2: Probably about five years ago. Yes, but it's not in
- 18:48Speaker 2: my husband's car. He's got a Volvo and it doesn't
- 18:50Speaker 2: work in there, and that's really annoying.
- 18:52Speaker 1: How old is the Volver? Two three years? So I
- 18:55Speaker 1: should have one.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's much younger than my car, which is so.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I should finish the story in case you're listening, you're
- 19:00Speaker 1: wondering the little arrow next to the picture of the
- 19:02Speaker 1: petrol tank tells you which side your petrol tank is on.
- 19:08Speaker 1: What I tell you this stuff?
- 19:10Speaker 3: Well, do you know that that actually should be told
- 19:12Speaker 3: to you.
- 19:12Speaker 4: That should be part of your license, right, because I
- 19:15Speaker 4: was like mature when I discovered that too, and it
- 19:18Speaker 4: would have been useful to here's your license and did
- 19:20Speaker 4: you know?
- 19:21Speaker 2: But maybe I didn't have it back then. I don't
- 19:23Speaker 2: know how recent an innovation this is. Like I feel
- 19:26Speaker 2: like someone at one of the car companies went, Hay,
- 19:29Speaker 2: this is a good idea, and then everyone else went,
- 19:31Speaker 2: oh my god, that's a great idea.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Instead of driving up to the thing with your head
- 19:34Speaker 1: out the wind. Yeah, yeah, and then.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I like it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: We've all been there.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Every so often. You'll see someone and they'll drive up
- 19:43Speaker 2: and they'll go, I'm on the wrong side, and they'll
- 19:45Speaker 2: do it like a U turn around the bowser and
- 19:47Speaker 2: then they end up with their car on the same side.
- 19:52Speaker 4: But you've got no excuse because you've made it on
- 19:54Speaker 4: one car in your family.
- 19:56Speaker 3: You really should remember.
- 19:57Speaker 1: No, I'm across it now, but when I go to
- 20:00Speaker 1: when I go up to Queensland, I'm driving mum or
- 20:02Speaker 1: Dad's sister Carl, whoever's car it is. It is helpful
- 20:06Speaker 1: to know, and I only discovered that late. So if
- 20:08Speaker 1: you guys have got one, i'd love to know. So
- 20:11Speaker 1: can they put this on our new website? They can
- 20:13Speaker 1: send us a little message or on social So I
- 20:16Speaker 1: have to know.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I've just done the website. Don't give me more to do.
- 20:20Speaker 1: No, no sending messages to today years old when I
- 20:23Speaker 1: learned it's a winning beneath it. What do you mean
- 20:26Speaker 1: you don't know?
- 20:26Speaker 2: You haven't even looked at the website and you're telling
- 20:29Speaker 2: me how to run it?
- 20:31Speaker 1: Well, how about we do it on social sin Okay.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I do actually have an info at No dribble, dot com,
- 20:37Speaker 2: dot au web.
- 20:38Speaker 1: What's that called email address? I'm so ready to I
- 20:42Speaker 1: don't want to make you eat this.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I want to set up a new segment. Can we
- 20:47Speaker 2: just sort that out.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Let's put it on Let's put it on social social.
- 20:56Speaker 1: God, have you dropped your coffee yet? I don't think
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's kicked in.
- 21:00Speaker 2: The New Dribble is more passive aggressive than No Dribble
- 21:02Speaker 2: I have to say.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Welcome to the New Dribble planning meeting. We are all over.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh Jesus I'm excited.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Though.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I got contacted by one of the dribblers during the week,
- 21:15Speaker 2: Darryl Milton, who's very active in our Facebook page, and
- 21:17Speaker 2: he said, Hey, Carolyn, I've got some ideas for how
- 21:19Speaker 2: to grow the podcast.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Do you want to hear them?
- 21:20Speaker 2: It's like, absolutely I do, and I haven't heard them yet,
- 21:23Speaker 2: but it's like, I'm excited and honestly, guys, we gotta
- 21:26Speaker 2: scale this thing so up. Anyone's got any great ideas
- 21:29Speaker 2: of organizations who m'd like to partner with No Dribble
- 21:32Speaker 2: or how we can build our listenership where all is
- 21:35Speaker 2: send it to cav no that's an info at No
- 21:40Speaker 2: dribble dot com dot au piece of information that one
- 21:43Speaker 2: so and they're you know, no prizes, but great respect
- 21:47Speaker 2: and admiration and devotion potentially coming you away for great ideas.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Do we get to touch on what you left us
- 21:54Speaker 1: hanging with last week? He kind of gave us a
- 21:57Speaker 1: bit of the rundown of the ad that you had
- 21:59Speaker 1: just done for a rectile dysfunction.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Didn't we talk about it? Do you say I'll talk
- 22:03Speaker 2: about it next week? And then we talked about it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: My toilet technology is a rectile dysfunction advertisement. Yeah, I
- 22:09Speaker 2: just feel like it needs more airtime. So let me
- 22:11Speaker 2: tell you that I think I already mentioned. The setup
- 22:13Speaker 2: is that I am the female part of a married
- 22:17Speaker 2: couple being together sometime and he gets on pilot technologies
- 22:21Speaker 2: a rectile dysfunction medication, and then we have a twenty
- 22:25Speaker 2: three year old daughter who won't move out, and then
- 22:27Speaker 2: suddenly we give her every incentive she needs to get
- 22:31Speaker 2: out of the house. So it's very funny. But so
- 22:34Speaker 2: the other two comedians, the woman who young woman who
- 22:36Speaker 2: played my daughter Freya, I have performed with many times.
- 22:40Speaker 2: But the guy who played my husband, Mick Meredith, I've
- 22:42Speaker 2: performed with a couple of times. And I think it
- 22:44Speaker 2: was weirder that I know him a bit rather than
- 22:47Speaker 2: not at all or knowing him well. And it's not
- 22:50Speaker 2: like we had you know, we're just sitting there with
- 22:52Speaker 2: his arm around me, but.
- 22:52Speaker 1: It's like it's each other like the eye. Yeah, well,
- 22:56Speaker 1: we had to.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Do stuff like that, and it's more awkward when you
- 22:58Speaker 2: know someone a little bit in that situation.
- 23:01Speaker 1: So, yeah, we don't have a date yet, do Well,
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's going to be out.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Well, I'm already married. So Mick and I am not
- 23:06Speaker 2: getting married.
- 23:07Speaker 1: If that's.
- 23:09Speaker 2: No, I don't know, but I will.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I will.
- 23:11Speaker 2: It was fun and I really liked the idea of
- 23:13Speaker 2: using humor for messaging like this. It just makes a
- 23:16Speaker 2: whole lot of sense. And it's fun to say erectile dysfunction?
- 23:20Speaker 1: What is? That's why I've brought it up again.
- 23:22Speaker 2: We could say things like intercourse as well.
- 23:24Speaker 4: But when I wrote my fertility book, I loved putting
- 23:28Speaker 4: things like, you know, vaginal.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Discharge, things like that.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Yeah, Like it's just like the third end year Army
- 23:34Speaker 4: was killing myself laughing at these really semi rude words.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I was writing, vaginas, penises direction.
- 23:43Speaker 2: The rude words are fine, but it's the actual medical
- 23:45Speaker 2: terminology that it's like.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I got deal with that.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Don't talk about about that.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Hey, can we just talk a little bit of neddie?
- 23:53Speaker 4: Sure?
- 23:54Speaker 3: I mean do we.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Still do that here? Yes? Let's do that.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I mean, what a segue from erect these functions? Now,
- 24:04Speaker 4: there are a number of pre season games on the weekend.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Not going to get sort of chew into that because
- 24:10Speaker 4: you just don't know who's doing what in terms of
- 24:12Speaker 4: their prey. But I'm looking forward to a team Girls
- 24:14Speaker 4: Cup in a couple of weeks time in Adelaide.
- 24:17Speaker 2: But when is that the fifteenth of March?
- 24:20Speaker 1: I've seen fourteenth sixteenth?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Yeah, are you going those times?
- 24:24Speaker 2: I will be down there, yes, Elizabeth, are you going? No,
- 24:28Speaker 2: I'm not going either, sadly.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:29Speaker 4: No, my daughter has you know, netball things have to
- 24:32Speaker 4: meet mother sometimes. So no, I'm sending CEO Stacy where
- 24:36Speaker 4: should we go to represent Netball Australia. But I will
- 24:39Speaker 4: say a bit of exciting news out of Media Australia
- 24:42Speaker 4: last week since we last spoke that the Grand Final
- 24:46Speaker 4: venue is going to be Rod Labor Arena.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So good, so the date because I was looking at
- 24:54Speaker 2: the Netball Australia press releases and it doesn't actually specify
- 24:58Speaker 2: the date, but clearly a date has been set for
- 25:00Speaker 2: the venue to be booked. It's still saying early August,
- 25:03Speaker 2: which accords exactly with last year's but it's sort of
- 25:06Speaker 2: is there a reason you're not announcing the day yet?
- 25:09Speaker 4: I don't know how I know, but I will say
- 25:12Speaker 4: that you can probably have a look at the date
- 25:16Speaker 4: of last years and it will give you a very
- 25:17Speaker 4: good indication in the date of this years without announcing
- 25:20Speaker 4: anything that I shouldn't and lots of people contacting me
- 25:23Speaker 4: about finding out when tickets go on sale.
- 25:27Speaker 3: There's just a bit of work that's been done about
- 25:29Speaker 3: different packages and different things.
- 25:30Speaker 4: So I watched this space because I think it's going
- 25:32Speaker 4: to be a bit of a fist too exciting writing, Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 4: it'll be unreal.
- 25:38Speaker 2: What I'm loving is that some of these preseason games
- 25:41Speaker 2: are going out to regional areas. So the Giants went
- 25:45Speaker 2: to Wogga Wogga. I think city is so nice. They
- 25:48Speaker 2: named it twice. And I think there were games in
- 25:51Speaker 2: Ballarat perhaps on the weekend, and I think that's just fabulous.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And the Swifts are on the Sunny coast, I believe
- 25:57Speaker 1: as well, and such a great opportunity to get all
- 26:01Speaker 1: of their crew together now they've got their full roster,
- 26:04Speaker 1: have some games and it is difficult to get a gauge.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I totally get that because the coaches are wanting to
- 26:10Speaker 1: play as many combinations and we'll see very similar sorts
- 26:14Speaker 1: of play at the TGC, and no one's going to
- 26:17Speaker 1: give away there all the things up there.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And I will remind you that the Swift's one team
- 26:21Speaker 2: Girls Cup last year. And then we're in a playoff
- 26:23Speaker 2: for the Wooden Spoon that they only narrowly won later
- 26:26Speaker 2: at the end of the season. So it is there's
- 26:29Speaker 2: a big distance between Team Girls Cup and what happens
- 26:32Speaker 2: in the Super Neple season.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, But I'm excited to see some of the
- 26:35Speaker 1: new players. I think we've all forgotten. You know, Mary Cholock,
- 26:38Speaker 1: we got all excited about her signing last year. We
- 26:40Speaker 1: haven't really spoken about her again. Image and Allison Verdie
- 26:44Speaker 1: Simmons was playing with Grace Wecky on the weekend for
- 26:46Speaker 1: the very first time officially and from all accounts amazing.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But I really want to keep an eye on what's
- 26:53Speaker 1: happening over at the West Coast Fever because as we know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: Malik and wend has gone over to fill the shoes
- 26:59Speaker 1: of our on their mad But really really sad to
- 27:02Speaker 1: hear what since play out in the West with Janielle
- 27:06Speaker 1: sadly losing her pregnancy. What does that mean now though,
- 27:11Speaker 1: because technically she was under contract. It's a tough one.
- 27:15Speaker 1: It is a really tough one, and I feel like
- 27:17Speaker 1: netball really needs to be the front runner and how
- 27:20Speaker 1: this is managed, I don't know what that looks like
- 27:22Speaker 1: if it means foul and Themud might have a chance
- 27:24Speaker 1: to come back and play if there's an exemption or
- 27:26Speaker 1: a rule that changes around that. But really interested to
- 27:29Speaker 1: see because can you imagine not having a season without
- 27:32Speaker 1: foul in her Mud when she could potentially play. She
- 27:34Speaker 1: may also want twelve months off.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Well she might too, but it would be really great
- 27:38Speaker 2: for her to have the opportunity to make the right
- 27:40Speaker 2: choice for herself, to have those options rather than well,
- 27:44Speaker 2: I didn't get this that I desperately wanted, and now
- 27:47Speaker 2: I can't do the other thing that would make me
- 27:49Speaker 2: feel best. I don't know I'm putting words in her
- 27:51Speaker 2: mout there, but you know, you would hope that the
- 27:54Speaker 2: system could create an environment where compromises were allowed. But
- 27:58Speaker 2: also it's like, man, well someone's come in to fill in,
- 28:00Speaker 2: and you don't want to crush her. Kath did you
- 28:05Speaker 2: just say, because I think you said for any Simmons
- 28:08Speaker 2: and Grace were working on court for the first time together.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I'm sure I saw them in that game against New Zealand.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Oh apologies, sorry, I'm an official preseason game, okay against
- 28:16Speaker 1: another SCN team. Yes, they have played against New Zealand.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Because I couldn't remember, maybe because there were so many
- 28:21Speaker 2: changes from both sides on that so I couldn't remember.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Maybe they weren't on court at the same time. But
- 28:26Speaker 2: you know, further to your point is that you can't
- 28:28Speaker 2: read too much into this preseason stuff because it was.
- 28:31Speaker 2: One of the things I loved so much about watching
- 28:33Speaker 2: that game was watching all of the changes that they
- 28:35Speaker 2: were making, particularly in New Zealand. They made sure everyone
- 28:38Speaker 2: had a lot of court time, switching them around in
- 28:40Speaker 2: different positions. It was great to see Grace White for
- 28:43Speaker 2: the Swifts playing shooter and then in wing attack, and
- 28:46Speaker 2: it's like, oh man, it'd be good at say.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Probably the thing that you get to see with these
- 28:50Speaker 4: pre season matches, it's less about results, but it's more
- 28:53Speaker 4: about the depths, yes, and so if you look at
- 28:55Speaker 4: the results, you go and you see the changes that
- 28:57Speaker 4: get made, you get a really good sense of the
- 29:00Speaker 4: depth that sits within each team. And particularly when you've
- 29:03Speaker 4: got a fever, for example, who have had foulon Nimaters
- 29:08Speaker 4: their lynchpin for so long, to see what happens when
- 29:11Speaker 4: she's not there is really interesting and you see who
- 29:13Speaker 4: steps up. So these I do feel like the preseason
- 29:16Speaker 4: goes on for an awfully long time, and there are
- 29:18Speaker 4: a lot of games in it.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But well, the players love that though, because do you
- 29:21Speaker 1: remember playing? And finally, once you got done with the
- 29:25Speaker 1: exhaustion of preseason and the fitness stuff, there was nothing
- 29:28Speaker 1: better than being on court. You'd much rather be at
- 29:30Speaker 1: a tournament playing games all weekend than running up sand
- 29:33Speaker 1: dunes and god knows what else you'd have to do,
- 29:36Speaker 1: go on to dark tunnels and getting claustrophobia on that though.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You just made me think about the TGC that was
- 29:43Speaker 1: on the Gold Coast a couple of years ago, and
- 29:45Speaker 1: I remember very clearly the Adelaide Thunderbirds were playing for
- 29:49Speaker 1: a position in the final and they chose to run
- 29:52Speaker 1: what would probably be considered their bench, all of their youth.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And at the time we were commentating saying, why would
- 29:59Speaker 1: you do that? This is a big opportunity, there was
- 30:02Speaker 1: money to win as part of that TGC. You've got
- 30:05Speaker 1: to get yourself into this finals game, You've really got
- 30:07Speaker 1: to do it. Why would you do this? And it
- 30:09Speaker 1: was the biggest confidence and shelved strength and of their
- 30:13Speaker 1: bench that I've ever seen. And they were amazing. And
- 30:16Speaker 1: we're talking about Lucy Austin on the court and Georgie Horges,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and there was another couple of youngsters that were actually
- 30:23Speaker 1: on the court at the time, and it was like
- 30:25Speaker 1: they had been playing for years. And that's the culture
- 30:28Speaker 1: I think they were starting to see in the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
- 30:30Speaker 1: It doesn't matter who's out there. They know their role,
- 30:32Speaker 1: they know their responsibility, and they've got the confidence instilled
- 30:35Speaker 1: in them to go ahead and do the job.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Yes, that was four or five years ago, right, So
- 30:40Speaker 4: you just think that perhaps, you know, when we're spectating
- 30:43Speaker 4: and we're looking at things, you've got to have half
- 30:46Speaker 4: an sort of thought process of Okay, what's the long
- 30:49Speaker 4: term approach of what the coach is trying to achieve here.
- 30:52Speaker 4: You know, preseason, no one remembers who won pre season
- 30:56Speaker 4: unless talking about the swift last year who won didn't
- 30:58Speaker 4: make finals. But like, preseason doesn't matter, and you can
- 31:02Speaker 4: get really caught up in that. But that's the moment
- 31:03Speaker 4: where the coach wants to start a young players, all right,
- 31:06Speaker 4: now's your chance, step up, go and do it. So
- 31:08Speaker 4: that's probably the most exciting thing about Team Girls Cup
- 31:11Speaker 4: that I'm looking forward to seeing.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And it's one of the last opportunities. They then go
- 31:14Speaker 1: into a squad of ten that's not many, and we've
- 31:18Speaker 1: seen every year there's been injuries or there've been sickness,
- 31:21Speaker 1: and they've had to make some pretty serious changes to
- 31:24Speaker 1: that ten. So it's a good opportunity to see in
- 31:27Speaker 1: the early days who can stand up and do the
- 31:28Speaker 1: job for you.
- 31:29Speaker 2: So, Liz, can you confirm the rumor that I've just
- 31:33Speaker 2: made up that Team Girls Cup will go to Las
- 31:35Speaker 2: Vegas next year?
- 31:39Speaker 3: Look, let's just say we're looking into.
- 31:40Speaker 2: It off court incidents than.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Do you want to get across the line though, and
- 31:47Speaker 1: we have spitballed this one before. Is a game in
- 31:50Speaker 1: Madison Square Garden and you may sound like that's region
- 31:53Speaker 1: for the Stars, but we had talked about it a
- 31:55Speaker 1: lot because there's so many Caribbean countries that play the game,
- 31:58Speaker 1: hop skipping a jump to New York and I think
- 32:01Speaker 1: around Thanksgiving every year they do a huge tournament in Miami,
- 32:06Speaker 1: and so with so many expats and so many amazing
- 32:09Speaker 1: athletes and players so close, it would be unreal to
- 32:13Speaker 1: take an exhibition game to matters. Let's work, Let's let's
- 32:17Speaker 1: start the room.
- 32:17Speaker 4: We're looking at that can I just speak clear. Looking
- 32:19Speaker 4: at that means me googling flight center.
- 32:24Speaker 1: You're going to go before the approval.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Me do Let's give this some gas taking anything to
- 32:31Speaker 2: the United States. So it's such a huge market that
- 32:34Speaker 2: it's like, so twenty five years ago when I was
- 32:36Speaker 2: working in professional rugby, we're looking at the number of
- 32:39Speaker 2: registered rugby players in the United States, and in two
- 32:42Speaker 2: thousand was over seventy thousand registered. And this is a
- 32:47Speaker 2: totally niche sport and that, but there's just so many
- 32:50Speaker 2: people there.
- 32:51Speaker 4: So well, yeah, so my husband played professional rugby in
- 32:54Speaker 4: America in Washington in the nineteen early nineteen nineties. I
- 33:00Speaker 4: mean by professional he got like paid food, sort of shelter,
- 33:06Speaker 4: drink a little bit of money, and he drink card
- 33:08Speaker 4: and he got to meet Bill Clinton before he was president.
- 33:10Speaker 4: There you go, yeah, yeah, I think, I mean that's
- 33:12Speaker 4: where god, half year salary, isn't it.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Surely so Washington State or d C. Was he playing
- 33:17Speaker 2: in DC?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Okay?
- 33:19Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, right, So, and I suspect if you,
- 33:22Speaker 4: if you scratch the surface.
- 33:24Speaker 3: It's probably quite a few netball players in the United States.
- 33:28Speaker 2: And this was my point that even though it's a
- 33:30Speaker 2: teeny tiny sport in such a huge market, there's probably
- 33:33Speaker 2: a lot of fans over there enough that we can
- 33:36Speaker 2: get on this whole Madison Square Garden.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Great people, let's give this some oxygen and make it happen.
- 33:43Speaker 1: But we did play against the US at a World
- 33:45Speaker 1: Cup one year.
- 33:46Speaker 3: We did.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Yeah, we played against the US and we became friends
- 33:49Speaker 4: with a couple of the girls and their team who
- 33:50Speaker 4: were expat asis.
- 33:51Speaker 3: And lived in New York.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Yes, and we went.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Yes, And there are so many stories in that.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I'm going to work on this elepisode. You won that game?
- 34:01Speaker 1: We did? Yeah, we did.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Substantially win that game, although upsets happened. Banglades beat England
- 34:08Speaker 2: in the cricket, which has nothing to do with our podcast.
- 34:10Speaker 1: But it makes me happy, so it can happen. It
- 34:15Speaker 1: can happen.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Back to the netball.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Yeah, let's let's work on a bit of Madison Square
- 34:19Speaker 4: Garden actually sometime in the next five years or.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Las Vegas or I don't know, Florida, Miami, somewhere.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Sure, Yeah, we can make it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I've got no dribble trip to Glasgow next year, sore on.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you'll be there anyway.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Right, Catherine May I just try and say it with stand.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I did it last week as well. No one, No,
- 34:39Speaker 1: we won't be there, sadly. No, we don't get to
- 34:41Speaker 1: go to the Common Games. Last Common Games, Sue Gordion
- 34:44Speaker 1: and I were sitting in a little booth that was
- 34:47Speaker 1: much like a broom closet calling it. Oh the screens
- 34:52Speaker 1: my god. Ye yeah sure.
- 34:54Speaker 4: Martin and I called the the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in twenty.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Fourteen at fourteen yep.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so twenty fourteen, Shrell and I called it from
- 35:06Speaker 4: a broom closet in Melbourne and we were calling a Glassbourne.
- 35:11Speaker 3: No, no, he is right.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Random people get put up on screening because you don't
- 35:19Speaker 4: get any information. You're not Scottish, you have no idea
- 35:22Speaker 4: who they are. We're just making stories about people. Yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 4: that person's very important any who. We won, so it's good.
- 35:29Speaker 4: But yeah, so you do. It's a bit of a
- 35:31Speaker 4: shame when you don't get to go on and call
- 35:33Speaker 4: it anyhow.
- 35:34Speaker 1: It just make a huge difference, doesn't it. Just having
- 35:37Speaker 1: the atmosphere and everything right in front of you so
- 35:39Speaker 1: you can see what's going on aside from just what
- 35:41Speaker 1: the television screen gives you.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Right, So it might have been me over there getting
- 35:45Speaker 2: amongst it.
- 35:46Speaker 1: You can't. That's not rule it out.
- 35:48Speaker 2: One thing that we do have a little bit of
- 35:50Speaker 2: a surprise, something exciting to announce next week, don't we Yeah?
- 35:55Speaker 2: What should we say about it? I think it's a
- 35:57Speaker 2: chance for us to connect with our drib blue, for
- 36:00Speaker 2: them to really get around this intense tribalism, a chance
- 36:07Speaker 2: to win some pretty good prizes.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Great prizes. So we will be for Liz and I
- 36:13Speaker 1: to show that we're not as knowledgeable about the game
- 36:15Speaker 1: as maybe you think we are.
- 36:17Speaker 2: And maybe there's a little redemption for me, maybe the
- 36:20Speaker 2: last year. Maybe who knows what might happen. But thanks
- 36:23Speaker 2: to our friends at Dribbler, we will have something exciting.
- 36:27Speaker 2: What did I say?
- 36:28Speaker 1: You know what?
- 36:32Speaker 2: I'm looking at the word in front of me. I'm
- 36:34Speaker 2: underlining it. And thanks to our friends at Valor, we
- 36:38Speaker 2: will have something exciting to announce next week that we
- 36:42Speaker 2: hope everyone will participate in from wherever they are listening.
- 36:45Speaker 1: To you, I'm excited about the trash talk now. I
- 36:49Speaker 1: think it's going to go. Bring it on. There we go.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Yes, our friends at Valor, this is new Dribble podcast today.
- 36:57Speaker 2: It's a whole new era of me. Just I didn't
- 37:01Speaker 2: even drink last night.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Maybe you should have? Maybe I should have.
- 37:09Speaker 4: All right, ladies, I'm on cyclone watch, so we need
- 37:12Speaker 4: to wrap this up.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Do we have a wind beneath our wingers?
- 37:15Speaker 1: Do you think that the word about the quality of
- 37:17Speaker 1: the scronches has got out? We don't. We don't. Why
- 37:24Speaker 1: would you not want one of our scornches?
- 37:26Speaker 2: I don't know these hand crafted and it's very clear
- 37:29Speaker 2: they're handcrafted, right, it's pretty clear that these are made
- 37:33Speaker 2: by the hands. Maybe people are thinking that children made them.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Children did not make them. We only had adults involved
- 37:39Speaker 2: in this. But yeah, we don't have a wind beneath
- 37:40Speaker 2: our wings nomination, but remember how easy it is now
- 37:44Speaker 2: thanks to the girl with the dragon tattoo, me get
- 37:48Speaker 2: on our website no dribble, dot com dot au. There's
- 37:52Speaker 2: a button there that says press here and record and
- 37:56Speaker 2: you can just speak into your microphone. Put a couple
- 37:59Speaker 2: of aims down there so we know how to get
- 38:01Speaker 2: hold of you and it comes directly to me as.
- 38:05Speaker 1: A voice name. We're going to have some fun this week.
- 38:10Speaker 2: So yeah, please please do that. Don't forget too. You
- 38:13Speaker 2: can also send us we're talking about some stuff there
- 38:15Speaker 2: that I thought was very interesting. Would have been good
- 38:17Speaker 2: to have some coaches involved in, but we've only currently
- 38:19Speaker 2: got a qualified development coach on the hosting team.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Because you're because I've lapsed.
- 38:25Speaker 2: You've lapsed, but you know, some ask questions there to
- 38:29Speaker 2: ask a coach and we will find the appropriate coach
- 38:31Speaker 2: to ask the question of. But wake up, Australia, come on,
- 38:34Speaker 2: get on board. We need to finish on a warmer
- 38:36Speaker 2: note than that. I've been just chastising the dribblers.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Casine, you do anything exciting this week?
- 38:42Speaker 1: We actually so every year I try to take Harper
- 38:45Speaker 1: for a little stay ca So we go to a
- 38:47Speaker 1: hotel and spend the night together before Neple season starts
- 38:50Speaker 1: because then I'm mia yep, she doesn't see me, or
- 38:52Speaker 1: she's dragged to Netblor and shes gonna sit quietly in the.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Quarter looking at her iPads away from the court.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Anyway, So we're doing that Saturday night and normally, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 1: Sydney accommodation not cheap. But I've got a virture for
- 39:07Speaker 1: this one. Thank you to you, Elizabeth.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Ellis Well you actually did the work.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Well. I rang to bag you out, so Liz was, yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 1: you told us last year.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Last year, I filled in on Jonesy and Amanda and
- 39:20Speaker 4: I was Amanda for the day while she was on holidays.
- 39:23Speaker 3: And they had what did they have, Catherine? They had
- 39:26Speaker 3: something and you had to ring in.
- 39:27Speaker 1: It was a pump up song, so it was your song,
- 39:29Speaker 1: lose yourself by Eminem versus I've the tiger, wasn't it.
- 39:33Speaker 3: That's right?
- 39:33Speaker 4: Jonesy chose the tiger and people had to ring in
- 39:36Speaker 4: and vote, and suddenly Catherine from you know, Sydney pops
- 39:39Speaker 4: up and I'm like, Catherine, now AnyWho, it's common name.
- 39:43Speaker 4: And then Catherine from Sydney gets on the line and
- 39:47Speaker 4: starts talking and it's Catherine Cox.
- 39:50Speaker 1: And I said, look, I don't really care, but I'm
- 39:53Speaker 1: ringing up to vote for Liz Elis's because I'm about
- 39:56Speaker 1: to have lunch with her and she's not a good loser.
- 40:01Speaker 1: So we did that, but unbenigns to me, they were
- 40:03Speaker 1: giving vouchers hotel stays to all of the people that
- 40:06Speaker 1: had run through.
- 40:07Speaker 2: No, it was only Caller of the week because I
- 40:09Speaker 2: remember we had lunch together that day and you gave it.
- 40:15Speaker 3: You got Collar of the Week. Which shows that nepotism
- 40:17Speaker 3: is not dead.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I will always look after my friends, even if it
- 40:21Speaker 4: doesn't have that much integnity about it.
- 40:23Speaker 3: So Jones was like, oh, which caller do you want
- 40:25Speaker 3: to give them voucher to? And I'm like, Catherine, well,
- 40:29Speaker 3: thank you.
- 40:29Speaker 1: So we're doing that Saturday night, and I'll be enjoying
- 40:32Speaker 1: a buffet breakfast on Sunday. Oh nice, that is going
- 40:36Speaker 1: to put some in my bag bring it home. Yeah nice.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I used to be so embarrassed when my mother did
- 40:40Speaker 2: that when we were on holidays as kids, and it's
- 40:42Speaker 2: like now I do it all the time.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Listen. I used to ride traveling all the time, didn't
- 40:47Speaker 1: we We'd go to the buffet breakfast and make sandwiches
- 40:50Speaker 1: that would keep us going for the rest of the day. Nice,
- 40:52Speaker 1: so we could to spend what we did have on wine.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Very good.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I am performing in Gosford this Friday night, which is
- 40:59Speaker 2: exciting night a fundraiser or rotary fundraisers. Apparently I have
- 41:03Speaker 2: to keep it nice and not swear too much.
- 41:05Speaker 3: So cool, you might as well not turn out.
- 41:09Speaker 1: How much do you change your material based on your audience?
- 41:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 41:12Speaker 2: Always, And that's why I always try to go at
- 41:14Speaker 2: the beginning and listen to the MC. So the MC's
- 41:17Speaker 2: got the job of trying to make the audience feel
- 41:19Speaker 2: relaxed and that they understand what their job is, which
- 41:22Speaker 2: is to laugh out now out loud, not smile at
- 41:24Speaker 2: one another silently. But they will often get a lot
- 41:28Speaker 2: of information out of the audience, and so you can
- 41:30Speaker 2: then tell, okay, this is an audience who are So
- 41:33Speaker 2: for instance, there's a place called the Running Joke that
- 41:36Speaker 2: I perform at quite a lot, which is in Pot's Point,
- 41:38Speaker 2: and quite often I will be there and it's all
- 41:40Speaker 2: international travelers. So a lot of my material it's like, well,
- 41:44Speaker 2: you won't find this funny because this is based on
- 41:46Speaker 2: you know, understanding local references and the like. So I
- 41:49Speaker 2: have to I've had to write some stuff that sort
- 41:52Speaker 2: of transcends that. So yeah, so it's important. That's why
- 41:55Speaker 2: always try to go early too.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Oh good luck, that sounds fun. I need to come
- 41:58Speaker 1: and watch you again time.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Well you didn't shut your trap though, honestly there was
- 42:02Speaker 2: a little bit too much chat from you.
- 42:04Speaker 1: There's heckling to be done. They were all over it.
- 42:07Speaker 1: So that's me. That's Friday and night. What about you
- 42:10Speaker 1: surviving a hurricane cyclone.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Well, let's see what happens. I'm going to I'm going
- 42:15Speaker 4: to come and visit you. Yes, let's see if I
- 42:18Speaker 4: can get home.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I bought olives today. Yeah, an age, but we need
- 42:23Speaker 1: some olives and some wine. I haven't done anything else,
- 42:25Speaker 1: but we've got that covered.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I know where the bottle shop. Isn't it your place?
- 42:30Speaker 3: I think it'll be fat.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I've got enough of the fridge show.
- 42:32Speaker 2: And this one is cyclone Alfred. That is my father
- 42:37Speaker 2: in law's name. He is full of hot air, but
- 42:39Speaker 2: largely harmless, and I hope that this is the same
- 42:42Speaker 2: for cyclone Alfred.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Well, thank you. Let you know next Monday.
- 42:45Speaker 2: My father in law is a delightful man. Actually that
- 42:48Speaker 2: was that was a little bit harsh. But you know,
- 42:50Speaker 2: he doesn't listen. He does not know what a podcast is.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I could say anything, tell the story about my mother
- 42:56Speaker 2: in law serving the garlic bread with the plastic wrap
- 42:59Speaker 2: on it.
- 42:59Speaker 1: They're never going to He might have listened to No Dribble,
- 43:01Speaker 1: but does he listen to Neble? You could be in trouble.
- 43:05Speaker 2: All right, Well, that is all we have time for
- 43:07Speaker 2: this week. We are getting closer and closer to the
- 43:10Speaker 2: pointy end of the is at the point of end.
- 43:12Speaker 2: It's the starting end of the netball season, so I
- 43:15Speaker 2: guess there's a point on it. But that is getting
- 43:18Speaker 2: very exciting. We'll all be back on court soon, we'll
- 43:20Speaker 2: all be back training, and we'll all be back watching
- 43:22Speaker 2: Super Netball against and we'll all be participating in some
- 43:26Speaker 2: exciting new no dribble initiatives, which we will reveal more
- 43:30Speaker 2: of next week. Comes to a pansilla, But anyway, that
- 43:33Speaker 2: is all we've got time for. I'm Caroline Swindell, I'm Catherine.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Cox Tatar, I'm Lizellis.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Stay safe, batten down the hatches, Bye bye bye,
