- 0:00Dot com. Welcome to the Daily Quote, a
- 0:06podcast designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:11I'm your host Andrew Mcgibbon for July 29th.
- 0:14Today is National Chicken Wing Day.
- 0:18And before you ask, yes, it's also International Chicken Wing
- 0:23Day. Apparently the world couldn't
- 0:25agree on whether chicken wings deserve national or global
- 0:29recognition, so we got both. Which honestly feels about right
- 0:35for something that brings people together over plates of saucy,
- 0:38sticky goodness. Now, chicken wings weren't
- 0:42always the superstar appetizer we know today.
- 0:45They were actually considered scraps that throw away parts
- 0:49that butchers would use for soup stock.
- 0:52Wasn't until 1964 when Teresa Bellamissimo at the Anchor Bar
- 0:59in Buffalo, NY, tossed some wings in hot sauce and butter
- 1:04out of necessity to feed her son and his friends late one night.
- 1:08And just like that, Buffalo wings were born, turning
- 1:13forgotten scraps into one of America's most beloved foods.
- 1:18There's something beautiful about that story, which brings
- 1:22us to today's quote from Maya Angelou, who once said there is
- 1:29no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
- 1:35Now, you might be wondering what chicken wings have to do with
- 1:38untold stories, but hear me out. Those wings sat in obscurity for
- 1:43decades, overlooked, undervalued, with their
- 1:47potential completely untapped. They had a story to tell, but no
- 1:53one was listening. Until one creative moment when
- 1:58everything changed. How many of us have our own
- 2:02chicken wing moments? Those ideas, dreams, and talents
- 2:06that we've dismissed as scraps, not worthy of the main course of
- 2:10our lives? Maybe it's that book you've been
- 2:13meaning to write, the ark you create in secret, or even just
- 2:19the encouraging words you hold back because you think they
- 2:22don't matter. Maya Angelou understood that our
- 2:26stories, especially the ones we're afraid to tell, often hold
- 2:31the most power. They're waiting to be shared, to
- 2:34be celebrated, to transform from something we think is ordinary
- 2:38into something that brings people together.
- 2:42So today, whether you're enjoying some wings or just
- 2:47going about your regular Tuesday, think about what story
- 2:51you've been keeping to yourself. What potential are you
- 2:55overlooking? Sometimes the scraps we dismiss
- 3:00are exactly what the world needs to hear.
- 3:04It's funny because when I was younger, me and my friends used
- 3:06to go for wings all the time. Where I lived there was a bar
- 3:11who had wing night on Monday nights and another bar had wing
- 3:15night on Tuesday nights and another had cheap wings on
- 3:19Wednesdays. The bar that had Thursday night
- 3:24wings had some competition from another bar that had prawn night
- 3:28on Thursdays and nobody had a wing special on the weekend.
- 3:34We were like wing groupies and we could always be found just by
- 3:40going to the bar with the wing special on that night, except
- 3:43for Thursdays. Then it was 5050.
- 3:47That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 3:50for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:54Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
