- 0:00Who's going to replace him? There's a load of man who could
- 0:03do it, but really there is. There's a tonne of managers that
- 0:07can do it. Just because Steve doesn't know
- 0:10the list doesn't mean like there's not a list of managers.
- 0:12He could do a better. Job I do know the list.
- 0:14It's a list of boring. Yeah, there you go.
- 0:16So that's what I mean. If you think they're boring,
- 0:19it's like you know you can stick with 17th and losing to Spurs.
- 0:39All right, guys, let's kick it off.
- 0:42So I'm to start with obviously like I haven't joined you guys
- 0:47in quite a while, but and the season has now wrapped.
- 0:50Am I correct It is wrapped? Not unless you count the Club
- 0:53World Cups you. Should find it.
- 0:54KISS. What's the heck's the Club World
- 0:57Cup here? We go, he needs to even explain
- 1:00her already and I'll fill in the.
- 1:01Literally coming out with things.
- 1:04Go on, give me a top line. Imagine the World Cup right is
- 1:08with with countries. This is the same tournament but
- 1:11now with clubs. It's the actual thing, yeah.
- 1:13It's the first time when. Did it start?
- 1:14It's the. First one ever in America.
- 1:16Who started it? FIFA, to make money also did.
- 1:19Jean Infantino, he's the president.
- 1:21Kiss. Yeah.
- 1:22It's all about the money, isn't it?
- 1:24All about the Benjamins. Follow the Saudi money, my
- 1:26friends. Was we united in it?
- 1:29No. No.
- 1:31How come we're T-shirt? We're not good enough.
- 1:34So Chelsea, so Chelsea a bit random.
- 1:37They're in it because they won the Champions League.
- 1:39Like, was it 22? Like, yeah, in the COVID the
- 1:432122 I think it was. So it's like the winners of the
- 1:46Champions League plus the top ranked nations in Europe and
- 1:49then plus, you know, from around the world, basically there's a,
- 1:54you know, qualification, 32 teams, four groups, sorry, eight
- 1:58groups of four. And then you get the like the
- 2:00World Cup, it's the last 16 quarter final, semi final,
- 2:03final. Final so I find that yeah, I was
- 2:06going to say I find that quite bizarre.
- 2:07What about like, you know, rest and international games and then
- 2:10like new season and all of that kind of thing?
- 2:12Like surely like Jose some ways, like complaining, right?
- 2:15Real Madrid tried to bail out of the tournament like a few months
- 2:20ago. Like they were like, we're not
- 2:21going to play it. And then the prize money up for
- 2:25grabs. Correct me if I'm wrong as well,
- 2:27Steve. I think it's is it the final
- 2:30itself is like is 100 mil or is it like if you if you win the
- 2:35thing like with all the money totalled up, is it 100 mil?
- 2:39Yeah. I think it's it's maybe total
- 2:40100, which is yeah, yeah. A lot of money to it, even
- 2:45though there seems to be empty stadiums at the moment and not
- 2:48actually Don Carlow. So big fan for Steve and kids.
- 2:53You obviously like him because of the eyebrow.
- 2:55He's like the Rock from WWE. He yeah, he was big on like not
- 3:01not participating. But then obviously, yeah, what
- 3:04happened was no TV companies actually bidded for it.
- 3:10So like they put it out for tender FIFA, no one bid, no one
- 3:15bid or like there wasn't like acceptable bids.
- 3:18And then all of a sudden Eddie Hearns old friends design, of
- 3:24course they come in right with a 1 billion, I think.
- 3:29Is it is it was it a dollar? Yeah, $1 billion bid, right.
- 3:34So obviously gets accepted by FIFA and then all of a sudden
- 3:39design get an investment from PIF, Saudi investment fund.
- 3:44So that's how it was done. Mate it's literally like corrupt
- 3:49left right it's. Corrupt like crazy and
- 3:52obviously, you know, Saudi are going to have the 20 is it 34
- 3:56World Cup? So you know, that was already in
- 3:58place. So this is just sports washing
- 4:01and yeah, blood money just being washed all over the place.
- 4:05Did Daddy Heard say he was going to do it for the banter?
- 4:09Yeah, come on as we need a meme I.
- 4:13Love it's it's it's the best meme ever.
- 4:17I also too many He's a genius. Like he's not proper David Brett
- 4:22though. The Essex version, yeah.
- 4:24Proper David Brett So look so season reflections like in terms
- 4:28of do you guys have any highs and lows lows have you have you
- 4:35covered this because it didn't all.
- 4:38Season the lows. No, I think we we all picked our
- 4:41moment of the season, the last pods.
- 4:43Obviously that was the highs. So we we didn't really go into
- 4:46the lows. So I.
- 4:47Think so you pick. There's about 100 of them.
- 4:52Let's let's rattle some off then.
- 4:53Bilbao, obviously. Yeah, go on.
- 4:55That's the that's the biggest low.
- 4:56That's the obvious one, Yeah, that's number one.
- 4:59I mean, we'll lose. We we were losing every other
- 5:02week or every week at one point at home.
- 5:04The the other big low that I can remember when I'm like, Oh dear,
- 5:08what's going on here was when the Newcastle game when Xerxi
- 5:13got subbed and was booed. And I just like, this is wrong.
- 5:15And I, I just felt horrible like for him, I'm so happy that he's
- 5:20really recovered from that and he ended up being a key player.
- 5:23But that Newcastle game where Ameren played Casimiro and
- 5:27Ericsson in the midfield against the most physical midfield in
- 5:29the league, and we got absolutely overrun.
- 5:32And it wasn't Xerxe's fault, but yeah, he was.
- 5:35He was awful as well, to be fair.
- 5:37Like that. Everyone was awful, Yeah, like
- 5:40the whole team was awful. But to see him get booed and
- 5:43then it was what was great and a high.
- 5:44I think it was like the next game or certainly soon after
- 5:47that, the Stratford End were doing the whole Joshua Zerksy
- 5:51chart and it was like that. That's how the song started.
- 5:54Yeah, yeah, the worst and the best of the the support.
- 5:56So like that was like a low and then a a big high and I'm really
- 5:59glad. That we're covered on that.
- 6:01I think in January, yeah, it was, it was your birthday
- 6:04weekend. Now, should we beat Arsenal
- 6:05away? And it's actually got the
- 6:06winning penalty, right? Yeah.
- 6:08So that was like the, you know, that was David.
- 6:10Bryant diving out the way of all our penalties.
- 6:12Thanks. Well, that there's one high that
- 6:14I just forgot about. That was.
- 6:16Brilliant. That was a good one actually,
- 6:18because Bruno scored a brilliant goal as well.
- 6:22Counter attack, yeah. I do.
- 6:23I genuinely maintain like cabs came up with some high and I'm
- 6:27like, what high was that? That was, you'd already won the
- 6:29league. How is that high?
- 6:31You've won the league and, you know, McAllister scores a goal
- 6:33and we know we've won the league.
- 6:34It's like we knew you won the league in January.
- 6:37Who cares, You know? So I think, yeah, we had
- 6:40Arsenal, we had the other one. Obviously we talked about Leon,
- 6:45but the in Bilbao when Harry Maguire did that on the wing, I
- 6:49was just laughing my ass with the with the first goal.
- 6:52It was just insane. Yeah, even Mason Mount in the
- 6:57second. Mason Mount, little little
- 6:59cheeky flick and then you knew we were going to the final and
- 7:03then we get on the Internet and start looking at flights and
- 7:05stuff. That was that was great.
- 7:07Ahmad obviously. And the ETTI had because yeah,
- 7:11yes, it's, it's lovely. Against City and it was a bit
- 7:14unexpected, so did we lose only two nil to Newcastle in that
- 7:20game? You're talking about us.
- 7:21I. Thought it was 3 but.
- 7:23That's what I thought but I've just been looking.
- 7:26I wanted to see what expected goals was for for Newcastle but
- 7:31it actually wasn't as high as I thought.
- 7:33But apparently we only lost two nil, but obviously we conceded 2
- 7:36in the 1st 19 minutes and I think they had other chant.
- 7:40They did have a disallowed goal. I think that was it.
- 7:42It could have been three nil within 30.
- 7:44And I think Esac put it in the top bins and he was offside I
- 7:47think by like a slither. But yeah, they're expected.
- 7:52Goals was at 1.92 but they probably took their foot off the
- 7:55gas a bit. Of a really bad hi.
- 7:57I want to say the dark side of me was when 10 Hard got fired
- 8:01because it was like a release valve for me.
- 8:03I was like, oh for God, thank God.
- 8:05There's something to look forward to.
- 8:08We're going to be marching up the table.
- 8:09We're going to be, you know, challenging for those Champions
- 8:12League spots. It's going to be fantastic.
- 8:14And yeah, it got worse, but that I've.
- 8:17Got one as well. Specific that that period of
- 8:19pure optimism and then and then Steve starting up the podcast as
- 8:23we get on the journey of, you know, the Reuben Amarim train.
- 8:26It was. It was.
- 8:27A roller coaster? Yeah, I've got one.
- 8:29One is basically yeah. November time, got the new
- 8:35manager, you know, vibes were meant to be good and then, you
- 8:38know, hit a big rocky patch and essentially got into a position
- 8:41where there was a chance we might get relegated.
- 8:44So we had a big six pointer against Ipswich midweek and if
- 8:49we'd have lost that game, I'm telling you it would have got a
- 8:52bit squeaky. But yeah, we we managed to pull
- 8:55out the win 32 so. Can I just ask like, don't you
- 8:59think, like I think we've probably spoke about it a
- 9:02billion times before and you guys have mentioned it as well,
- 9:05but like Man United, man in in like what, 16th position, 16th?
- 9:111515, right, but we're calling it 17th.
- 9:14OK, fair. But like, don't you think that's
- 9:16crazy behaviour? It's unacceptable.
- 9:19It's unacceptable, but like, OK, is like, is it?
- 9:25My question is, like with Reuben coming in now and especially
- 9:28with the new season, like, have you given him like a pass for a
- 9:31slate, like a clean slate? Ash is fired two months ago.
- 9:37But but why Ash? But why?
- 9:39Like tell me what I said you. Just said it yourself.
- 9:42What, because he but he hasn't had a full season and full money
- 9:45and full all of that kind of thing.
- 9:46Go on, Kiss. Steve, you know what happened in
- 9:51the final? You lost the fucking Spurs.
- 9:53I mean, what else can I tell you?
- 9:55No. But do you think like you're
- 9:57being a bit like not patient with him?
- 10:00Who else is? Who's?
- 10:01Yeah. Because obviously if you look at
- 10:03it objectively, then yeah, you give him the window, you give
- 10:07him pre season and you allow him like to have the start of the
- 10:12season. But as Cabs pointed out on the
- 10:15last pod, he's lost all the goodwill because we were losing,
- 10:19you know, every week. It's the goodwill, I think, the
- 10:22fan, but a lot of when we're in Bilbao a lot.
- 10:24Of no goodwill in terms of like the atmosphere around him,
- 10:28right? You 2 have said it yourselves,
- 10:30if he loses two games at the start of next season, he's under
- 10:34massive pressure. Yeah, but at the moment there's
- 10:36a lot, I think there's a lot of sympathy.
- 10:37No, with the fans, there is goodwill.
- 10:39But I'm saying like the aura, like media, everything, right?
- 10:43Like it's it's what cabs was talking about, right?
- 10:45Like he's lost all of that because he has to perform like
- 10:49he's got no other option. Like he can't have a pass as in
- 10:53like, you know, even if you've got a bunch of draws, kids like,
- 10:57you know, let's say like we're like.
- 10:59It's not an excuse to fire him, though, to say that, oh, if this
- 11:02happened, this is bad. What's that?
- 11:05It's not an excuse to fire him. It is an excuse.
- 11:08That's what people will use. Like what?
- 11:10What? No.
- 11:11No. Now.
- 11:11Right now you're saying, oh, but if he loses 3 games, I'm like,
- 11:14yeah, but he hasn't lost three games.
- 11:15What if he wins three games? Yeah, but you guys have said
- 11:18exactly the same. So I'm only repeating what you
- 11:19guys have all agreed with. If he wins three games exactly,
- 11:22then he's looking good, obviously.
- 11:24And I want him to do well. I don't want, I don't obviously
- 11:27want him to get fired. It's just like I, I see the
- 11:31trajectory. I don't, no, wait, wait, wait,
- 11:33wait. Don't you do want him to be
- 11:35fired? You do want?
- 11:36No, I don't. Why would I want him to be
- 11:38fired? He's the United manager.
- 11:40I'm so confident. But you're, you're, you're
- 11:42saying he, he, he's more like he's very expendable.
- 11:45Yeah, at the moment, obviously, I mean, no.
- 11:47He's saying if he was in charge, he would fire him.
- 11:50He said that, yeah, but that doesn't mean I don't like him.
- 11:52That's too different. If you don't like him, I'm just
- 11:54saying. You just said that literally
- 11:55about two seconds ago. No, this is recorded on a pod,
- 11:58so you can rewind it and you can see that.
- 12:00I didn't say. That roll the tape.
- 12:02Roll the tape. Let's get the VIRI.
- 12:04Said you would fight, you would fire him if you were in charge.
- 12:07Yeah, unashamedly as well. Like you guys are absolutely off
- 12:11your heads. Like, there we go.
- 12:12Next season. Like it Next season starts with
- 12:15three defeats. Watch you 20.
- 12:17OK, we've got a firearm now. But but my question, the answer
- 12:20to that is, or my answer to that, my question to that is, is
- 12:23like, like who's going to replace him?
- 12:26There's a load of man who could do it, but really there is.
- 12:31There's a tonne of managers that can do it.
- 12:33Just because Steve doesn't know the list doesn't mean like
- 12:36there's not a list of managers. He could do a better job.
- 12:38I do know the list. It's a list of boring.
- 12:40Yeah, there you go. So that's what I mean.
- 12:42If you think they're boring, it's like you know you can stick
- 12:46with 17th and losing to Spurs. That's right.
- 12:49Yeah, exactly. I'll wait for my charisma next
- 12:51summer when the World Cups. Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 12:54You guys are happy to do that, right?
- 12:56I'm not because I'm not writing off another season, especially
- 12:59listening to, you know, this one Babble on about like, how good
- 13:02the transfer window is going to be.
- 13:05Like because because I all I don't know why, like I always
- 13:10think like our Man United, like Pip to the post, you know, be a
- 13:13Pochettino, be slot if that's his right name.
- 13:16I don't know if I said that right, but but yeah, like what?
- 13:18Like it seems like it works with everyone else, but why is it?
- 13:21Is it more higher than that? Is it above the manager?
- 13:24Like now with is some of the Ineos like top top team like
- 13:29change or something like. That go on Steve, this is your
- 13:31speciality and we'll get Jim. 'S in a second.
- 13:34Or in directors and all of that you.
- 13:35Know like pre Ineos, so two years ago we had 10-12 years or
- 13:3910 years basically post Fergie where it was a shit show.
- 13:43We had, you know, 4-5 managers kept failing.
- 13:46So then you get to a point and you say it's not the manager.
- 13:48So then everyone worked out five plus years ago that there's
- 13:51bigger things going on like recruitment, etcetera.
- 13:54And then Ineos come in they did make some good hires, like more
- 13:57football people. Obviously they fired one of
- 13:59them, Ashworth, so they're trying to change things.
- 14:02But I think, yeah, it is bigger than the manager and I think
- 14:04that's the big reason as to why Ruben does still have the
- 14:08backing of. Steve.
- 14:10Decent chunk of the fan base. As a novice, I want to know a
- 14:13little bit about the transfers in terms of like, look, are you
- 14:15gonna give Ruben a bit more kind of the purse like you've got
- 14:18who? Kunya, Kunya, and then what's
- 14:22happened to that? You know, Icarus or Gyro or
- 14:24whatever his name is, like Gyros Arsenal, Arsenal a lot like
- 14:28buying him now and then it's going to be one of those things.
- 14:31Ah damn, we nearly added, don't we?
- 14:33And then he's going to score like the top scorer of the
- 14:35bloody league or something like like, what's your thoughts on?
- 14:38That no, I'm going to give this one to ask because he wants to
- 14:40try and explain to me what what the strategy is.
- 14:43It's quite simple, Gokharez is a player wants to move to a
- 14:48Champions League club. That was that's been clear from
- 14:51day one. Arsenal are looking at 2
- 14:53strikers, Benjamin Chesco at RV Leipzig and Gokharez, and
- 15:00depending on who they can get, they'll pick, you know, I think
- 15:04it sounds like Arteta's top pick, Chesco, their Storting
- 15:07director, top pick is Gokharez. I at the end of the day, if the
- 15:15player doesn't want to come to the club, doesn't want to come
- 15:19to the club, I don't want players that don't want to be
- 15:20there. I also think there's a
- 15:22complication around his fee. He's got one, he's his agent is
- 15:25notorious, he's Frankie Deyong's agent, so there's rumours around
- 15:29his agent wanting €10 million of the fee.
- 15:33I think he's probably like just like you did with Deyong,
- 15:36playing one club after another. So there's lots of rumours
- 15:39around. My issue with the Goku is just
- 15:42generally he's, I don't like the age profile.
- 15:44I'm a bit little bit sceptical on goals in the Portuguese
- 15:48league as well. So it's not like a slam dunk.
- 15:50This is the new Earling Harland. So if we miss out on him, we
- 15:53miss out on him. Yeah, that's interesting.
- 15:56You think that about the Portuguese league is, you know,
- 16:00with Reuben, obviously you think it can be replicated like what
- 16:03he did. So yeah.
- 16:06Yeah, I mean, because like we don't have a striker like we
- 16:09have like Hoyland's just a ghost, right.
- 16:11So we need someone, we need goals in this team.
- 16:14I think Cunha addresses that to a certain extent.
- 16:17And our new friend Brian in Burmo as well, still rumoured to
- 16:23be interested. I know there's links to to
- 16:25Tottenham, but that would add some extra goals to the team.
- 16:28And then my my personal pick for if we can get the the man is
- 16:32Victor Ostman. That's who I want.
- 16:34I'd love that still floating around.
- 16:36We don't know what's going to happen with him would.
- 16:38You pay the wages, seeing as you're always so big on it and
- 16:42you didn't want Harry Kane on that basis.
- 16:44Yeah, I I think he needs to obviously have some kind of
- 16:49compromise on his wages, but he's only got one more year at
- 16:52Napoli, right. So it's kind of like, OK, you've
- 16:54got another year at Napoli, but we're giving you a five year
- 16:56deal. You come to Man United, do you
- 16:59want to piss around in Turkey again?
- 17:02Saudi Saudi are offering him mega money or rejected it right.
- 17:06So far, so far Al Hilal have made another offer to him.
- 17:10He's if you're saying, oh, who's the one you'd want ready made?
- 17:12I think he's he's he's class. But yeah, we'll see.
- 17:18Yeah, forget Al Hilal, come and join the Al Haram man on Monday
- 17:21night. Yeah.
- 17:22Exactly. That's what it's all about.
- 17:23Exactly. That's what it's all about, the
- 17:25dark side. Exactly, need a bit of that dark
- 17:29energy to score some goals. He needs to.
- 17:31He needs to follow on the straight path I was.
- 17:34Just going to say the trouble is because it's budget as well,
- 17:36we're limited by budget. So obviously we had Kieran
- 17:39McGuire on, you know, came and told us about United situations.
- 17:42So it's not like we have a blank cheque book.
- 17:44So we had a limited budget. I think the rumours are we
- 17:46started with a pot of around 100 million to spend and anything on
- 17:50top we'll need to generate sales.
- 17:53So they went big on Cunya first and pretty much spent a big
- 17:56chunk of that. Would you have done that, Steve?
- 17:59No, I would have gone all eggs in the striker.
- 18:01And this is where I disagree with us because he says Gokharez
- 18:04wants Champions League football, which he will want in an ideal
- 18:07scenario. But there's a lot of clubs like
- 18:09just kind of like hovering around and, you know, finding
- 18:12out the price. Whereas if we'd have gone
- 18:14straight, start the window, just pay the flip in how I know the
- 18:18sporting director saying 80 million euros is the actual
- 18:20clause. Is that right?
- 18:21100 million, but €100 million, right, So what's that £80
- 18:25million roughly? 5 million yeah 85,000,000 OK, we
- 18:28paid. 70, It's the mistakes of the past, wrong age, overpay.
- 18:33It's just I just don't want to do it.
- 18:34I'd rather same with Brian and Burmo.
- 18:36There's Tottenham of bid 70. Just walk like we've got to
- 18:39start walking away, yeah. But we're not in the situation
- 18:41to walk. We're not in the.
- 18:42Situation to walk. I'd rather I'd rather be 15th
- 18:45again and you rebuild the financial club and then make
- 18:47bad. My God you are literally trying
- 18:50to get the club relegated. No, I'm not.
- 18:51I'm, I'm saying that the the way to run a club is not to just
- 18:54keep throwing money, Bad money after bad money.
- 18:56You've got to set a valuation on players.
- 18:59If the players are not available at that valuation, wait, be
- 19:02patient, build your finances up and go again in in the next
- 19:06summer. And that's the way we should be
- 19:08run. As a look at what Liverpool did
- 19:10last summer. Who did they buy?
- 19:11Nobody. They bought Kiaza, New manager
- 19:14comes in. We don't have a striker, they
- 19:16had my seller. And we don't have a decade of
- 19:18good recruitment behind us. Yeah, it's it's about like it's
- 19:21about not making the mistakes the past and just throwing, you
- 19:25know, bad money at the problem. There's a certain valuation and
- 19:28then you have a certain overpay, like CUNY was an overpay.
- 19:31But I think he's a really good player.
- 19:33He'd had a really good season. Brazilian international Carlos
- 19:36come in at the Brazil team and he's picked Cunya as his number
- 19:3910 dump. He's a, you know, he's.
- 19:41Yeah, but if we're paying 65,000,000 for Cunya is what's
- 19:4480 million for? Gokharis isn't exactly
- 19:46ridiculous, and his wages are central.
- 19:48Gokharis, this is the point. It's like where you're going off
- 19:51like, oh, he's a striker and he scored goals, yes.
- 19:54How do you know? It's worth, I'm telling you
- 19:56he's. Not worth 80 million and you're
- 19:57saying he is? Why do you think you're right
- 19:59and I'm wrong? Because I, I think the striker
- 20:01hole in our team is huge. And if you address that, you
- 20:04potentially jump up five to seven positions just from that.
- 20:07I I I totally agree. But you can't just throw money
- 20:10at the problem and it. No, I'm not saying that.
- 20:12I'm saying go and make a statement signing like that.
- 20:14That's what I would I think. Brian and Burmo would be a
- 20:16statement signing but again I want to draw the line at where
- 20:19what you pay for him. I think like Premier League,
- 20:21proven players are the way to go or players that you know are at
- 20:26the elite level. Like Gokarez was at Coventry
- 20:28before this. If you look at his career, his
- 20:31career is, you know, not many much better than Rasmus Hoyland,
- 20:34but you know, it's coming to the peak of that.
- 20:36I mean, Mbumo, if you go with the Carl Anka pronunciation,
- 20:40he's he's his first. It's his first season this year
- 20:43getting more than ten goals. He got twenty goals this year.
- 20:47I was looking at the stats last night because.
- 20:49He's prepping ready. Nine goals last season, 9 goals
- 20:52the season before and the season before that.
- 20:54He's in the Championship, so it's not exactly, you know, set
- 20:57in the world at Light. Yeah, but he's got the assists,
- 21:00that's the thing. It's why not go all eggs on
- 21:02Victor Osman like you do a lower transfer, lower transfer fee
- 21:07because he's got one year and the wages is the bigger problem.
- 21:10100% the issue with Osman and this is the issue with the
- 21:12transfer window. There's some transfers that can
- 21:14be done early and others that are going to be done late.
- 21:18I think the way that De Laurentiis is De Laurentiis, the
- 21:21owner of Napoli, he's a super hard negotiator.
- 21:24Just like Osserman went at the deadline of the window.
- 21:27This to me is something that will.
- 21:29Keep going. You shouldn't pay De Laurentiis
- 21:31175,000,000 for Osserman with one year on his contract.
- 21:34It's ridiculous. We're screened then because
- 21:37like, you have to wait till the end of the summer for Victor
- 21:42Osserman. And Gokrez won't go Gokrez if,
- 21:47let's say, Arsenal. Well, unless Arsenal actually do
- 21:49it, I don't think they will. Yeah, let's say yeah, I think
- 21:51they'll get Cesco, right? Let's say Chelsea have just
- 21:53signed a lapse. They don't need a striker.
- 21:55City don't need a striker. Let's say Liverpool don't go for
- 21:58Gokrez, they go for EZAC or they go for someone else, right?
- 22:02Maybe the what's the I Frankfurt striker called again?
- 22:06Oh, Ekitike. So let's say ekitike say go for
- 22:08Ekitike. Who's say that one kiss?
- 22:11Chicka tikka like ABBA chicka. Chick take a chance on me.
- 22:16Chicken tikka and and Jai. That's what I mean, chicken
- 22:18tikka. We have to, right?
- 22:20We've got a whole 3 course menu at the time where the transfers
- 22:22done. That's entrees.
- 22:24You have to be a little bit patient and wait for the
- 22:26dessert. Like there's people who go, you
- 22:27know, they're, they're going to buy up the starters.
- 22:29The main courses are there. And at some point you go, oh,
- 22:32wait a minute and this, the transfer windows this like
- 22:36longer period where everyone's, there's certain deals you can
- 22:38get done earlier and there are other deals that there's a few
- 22:41dominoes to fall in different transfers and we have to wait
- 22:44for Arsenal to make their decision.
- 22:47Right, summer sports, football season's over.
- 22:51What are you guys kind of watching?
- 22:54Following. I did watch the F1, which have
- 22:56you ever? Watched a full race like end to
- 22:58end. No, I, I did, yeah, I did switch
- 23:02off a little bit during the middle of the race.
- 23:05Oh OK, so you didn't watch this one end to end either.
- 23:07No, not end to end. Yeah, I watched the start of it
- 23:11and then I was hoping for a crash or something exciting, but
- 23:13it was it was nicely crash there.
- 23:15Was a crash. At the start, right?
- 23:17The start was. Oh, you wanted a crash between
- 23:20George? I wanted Max to like try and
- 23:21overtake Russell on the first bend like I would have, but no.
- 23:26It was good driving though, like seeing that first few laps and
- 23:30it's a short circuit, right, Canada, like they were doing the
- 23:32laps quickly. Yeah, pretty short lap yeah, but
- 23:36I don't know it just it's probably too technical because
- 23:38you know like when the drivers have pitted and then you like
- 23:42like I said to you, why is Max in 4th and you're like, oh,
- 23:44technically still second. It's almost like you need a
- 23:47virtual leaderboard of excluding the pits.
- 23:50What's the actual leaderboard? It's.
- 23:52In your head for the you can't do the math.
- 23:54Come on, they need 25 seconds for a pit stop.
- 23:57You just add it on. They need AT20 version of
- 23:59Formula One where there's no pit stops.
- 24:01It's that is a Sprint. It's called a Sprint.
- 24:03We have the Sprint I. Was going to.
- 24:05I was just about to agree with you, Steve.
- 24:07I was like. Yeah, so what's the six races of
- 24:10the year? They have a Sprint race.
- 24:11So the normal format for the weekend is 3 sessions of
- 24:16practise. Qualifying sets, the grid for
- 24:18the race in the main race and the Sprint race weekend.
- 24:21You just have the one practise session, then you have a
- 24:24qualifying session for the Sprint race and then you have a
- 24:28Sprint race and you have a qualifying session for the main
- 24:31race in the main race. So there's two races and then
- 24:34the Sprint race is 1/3 distance. You can pit, but because it's
- 24:371/3 distance, typically they'll try and do it in one stint.
- 24:41Now The thing is, the problem is with a lot of circuits or a lot
- 24:46of F1, a lot of it comes down to, and the interest is the
- 24:49strategy is managing tyres and do you do a two stop, a one
- 24:53stop, a three stop? So you lose that.
- 24:55So even though you're like, oh, I just want, you know, flag to
- 24:58flag or lights to flag, you're, you're missing the intrigue.
- 25:02So part of the intrigue of the the race in Canada was the fact
- 25:06that, yeah, Max, Max came in early because he, you know,
- 25:10wasn't happy with his ties. Russell has to follow him in
- 25:13because Max on new ties can then overtake because he's got brand
- 25:16new ties. So Russell has to follow him in.
- 25:18McLaren's slightly behind that they they left it out longer.
- 25:24What that meant was towards the end of the race they had fresher
- 25:26tyres and they were coming back. So you kind it's like this.
- 25:29You have to like follow the story and.
- 25:31Yeah, no, that's fair. The.
- 25:32Strategy and then and and then someone like Charles in the
- 25:37Ferrari wanted to do a one stop, which will be different from a
- 25:40two stop. So even though you might be
- 25:41like, oh, he's going a bit slower, it takes you about 25
- 25:45seconds to change your tyre. So it's part of the whole
- 25:48intrigue of Formula One. It's is this.
- 25:50I guess. I guess I.
- 25:51Can see their faces. They're not buying this.
- 25:55I guess I'm going to say no, I'm you have to be at two stop I.
- 26:00Was going to say kiss was like stop stop talking.
- 26:03No, You know how fizer list was about football?
- 26:06I guess that's me about F1. Just fucking race.
- 26:09Yeah. No, I, I think when I, when I do
- 26:11watch it and I remember watching it with Ash back in the days,
- 26:14like especially that Verstappen race.
- 26:16I think we watched a Verstappen Hamilton race, which was like
- 26:19the most, you know, drama kind of thing in.
- 26:22Abu Dhabi, 2021, Yeah. Abu Dhabi.
- 26:25All right, Flintstone. But yeah, it was, it was Barney
- 26:32Rubble. But it was really good.
- 26:35And I think obviously, yeah, drives to survivors obviously
- 26:39done like wonders for it. Are you going to watch the F1
- 26:43Brad Pitt thing, aren't you? Yeah.
- 26:45But before we get on to that, have you guys like watched Drive
- 26:49to Survive? Kids obviously love to know like
- 26:52your thoughts if you have, because you know the production
- 26:55and everything about it. I think if I were to be totally
- 26:58honest, I watched the first ever series 1 episode 1 and I thought
- 27:02it was the packaged really well. Like, I think the main thing I
- 27:08suppose as well is true reflection of the drama and they
- 27:14kind of really hype it up to a proper like movie, movie
- 27:17production values. Like, you know, the engines, the
- 27:19sounds, all of that kind of roaring drama is really good.
- 27:22I mean, first of all, like credit for, I mean, they must
- 27:25get, you know, huge amount of like moolah, but like getting
- 27:28all that access and kind of getting all the like, you know,
- 27:34info and all the things that come from it is like phenomenal.
- 27:39Netflix doing that obviously speaks wonders, but I think that
- 27:42alone is brilliant. And you could also see like
- 27:44what's her face? Reese Witherspoon's company has
- 27:48now done the the women's F1 Academy thing, which is really
- 27:52interesting. But no, I know people I know who
- 27:57have never watched or know anything about F1 as a result of
- 28:01Draught to Survive. I've gone to like Monaco when
- 28:03places like that because they just love the drama of it.
- 28:06But they still don't understand the different strategies
- 28:09probably. That's The funny thing is I
- 28:11watch Drive to Survive. I'm like, I don't know, I I
- 28:14enjoy it because of the the stories in the people politics.
- 28:18Yeah. But in terms of actually
- 28:20understanding the sport, I don't think it explains the sport that
- 28:23well. No more a.
- 28:26Bit more done like a series and the soaps.
- 28:28Exactly. I was literally about to say
- 28:30EastEnders. Yeah, it's EastEnders style.
- 28:32It's about the drama. It's about Christian Horner, you
- 28:35know. Yeah, big ego, man.
- 28:37Well, for me, they're interested.
- 28:39Who's the Phil? Rachel.
- 28:40It's a good question, Toto. No.
- 28:47Yeah. That's a good shot then, right?
- 28:52Yeah. If you want a recommendation,
- 28:55another summer sport that's completely random that I love,
- 28:59that is don't say. You say paddle, I'm leaving.
- 29:01So random is Tour de France and there's a brilliant Netflix Tour
- 29:07de France and it actually you will understand cycling better.
- 29:11Brailsford's obviously not involved anymore, but you'll
- 29:13understand cycling's a quite a complex sport.
- 29:16So when Brailsford. Bloody hard sport, yeah.
- 29:19Jesus, Brailsford's success, you know, shouldn't be
- 29:21underestimated what Team Sky did.
- 29:24I mean, it's a very complicated sport, but he.
- 29:26Drugs aside. Yeah, but the cycling's
- 29:29notorious but. Yeah, I know.
- 29:31Like they all do it. It's just the levels.
- 29:33And who get cycling is, to me, it is the most extreme
- 29:38endurance. I just don't understand how they
- 29:41do it. Like stuff it's it's just beyond
- 29:44belief. The levels of like football
- 29:46people, footballers need a certain level of fitness.
- 29:49But these guys are, it's going up, you know, ALP dues, you
- 29:54know, very thin air and pedalling at that level.
- 29:58And it's just you're seeing their veins popping and they're
- 30:00just their bodies. Shrivel.
- 30:02But is it? Is it actually exciting, though?
- 30:03Oh yeah, I'm sure I oh, because is.
- 30:05It to me when I when I see like I'll I don't tune in for that
- 30:08whole thing. I'll come in typically a Tour de
- 30:11front stage ends about 4:30. So I'll TuneIn at the 3:30 ITV 4
- 30:16or Eurosport and and off. You know, if, especially if it's
- 30:19a summit climb to see them climb like the colder to Malay ALP du
- 30:24airs these big climbs and see the strain on the face, like the
- 30:28actual like physical pain that this person is going through.
- 30:32It's just to me, it's drama. Like I'm watching it like, how
- 30:35is this person doing this? And then, and then, and then
- 30:38you'll see this moment where they crack and they're gone.
- 30:40And then they just fall backwards and you're like, Oh my
- 30:42God, he's gone, He's cracked. They push the continuous spin it
- 30:47limit, like to the limit of physical endurance.
- 30:49And, and for me, it's just, it's just a spectacle seeing people
- 30:53push themselves to that limit. I just don't understand it.
- 30:56It's just, it's, it's when I see human, that's why I love sport.
- 30:59It's like it takes human capacity to the absolute limit,
- 31:03right? And, and to me, cycling is it's
- 31:063 once one bike race is one thing, but they do race after
- 31:11race for three weeks up the highest mountains in Europe.
- 31:14Sprint stages, time trail stages, mountain stages.
- 31:18You see the. Beauty.
- 31:19No, I rate. I rate the endurance.
- 31:21I'm just as as a spectacle. Fair enough, though I can.
- 31:24See, but you tune in for the key bits, right?
- 31:26So if it's Sprint stage like Cavendish is the record holder
- 31:29in Tour de France, stage is a sprinter.
- 31:31You literally only need to watch the last 10 minutes like or even
- 31:34the last two minutes. Kids, if you want us to switch
- 31:37sports, just say. How many miles is it?
- 31:40Oh, some crazy like 2000s. It's it's Tour de France is a
- 31:46mate like for me, like great summer sport.
- 31:49I'm looking. Is it?
- 31:50Is it every? Is it every summer?
- 31:51Every Yeah, it's. Every summer.
- 31:53Kids imagine continuous spinning but like times 50.
- 31:57But I would say like, go and watch the Netflix of that
- 32:00because you will see the behind the scenes of cycling and you're
- 32:03like, this is insane. This is complete.
- 32:05And they put their lives at risk because the not just the climb,
- 32:09it's the descent. You watch a cyclist descend and
- 32:12you're like, Oh my God, like Steve, do you remember going
- 32:14through Basque in the car going the ultimate fastest 70 miles an
- 32:19hour on a bike with no barriers? I'm just like watching this
- 32:22going, Oh my God, what? This guy's going to die.
- 32:25And people have like literally nearly lost their lives.
- 32:28So then they have crashes all the time and.
- 32:31The accidents are just terrible. You.
- 32:33Just see, like the blood in the guts of this, it's just, it's,
- 32:37it's just crazy. It's just crazy.
- 32:41And or you could have a bit of Wimbledon with strawberry and
- 32:45strawberries and. Cream, right It's.
- 32:47Just a strawberry cream. Who?
- 32:48Who is it? Yeah, is it?
- 32:51Djokovic is still about, isn't it?
- 32:53Yeah. And what about the young lad?
- 32:56Alkaraz. Alkaraz.
- 32:57Garlito. Yeah, who else is kind of like.
- 33:01Popping up #1 Jacques Sinard. OK.
- 33:05When does Wimbledon start? 30th of June on Monday, I think
- 33:10personally, potentially his last chance to do the 25 is this
- 33:14Wimbledon, and he could do it and he could what's.
- 33:16The 25 is that grand Slams? Slams, yeah.
- 33:20Is that the record or he's got the record in it?
- 33:23He has it. But yeah, it's a, you know, it's
- 33:25a landmark number, isn't it? Oh, I've got to mention cricket.
- 33:30Cricket is England versus India, SO5 Test matches.
- 33:34So that's really going to, you know, keep her intrigue kids.
- 33:37But obviously it's going to be a huge sum of of cricket.
- 33:41So yeah, man, you know, you'll probably see Stuart Broad, like,
- 33:44walking around. Yeah, he lives at the end, so
- 33:46see him with old Molly. Old Molly.
- 33:48So he'll be commentating I'm sure.
- 33:50So you'll see him at the Oval and and that Lords no, no
- 33:53doubts. And a huge contingent of Indian
- 33:57fans around the country. Unfortunately, Virat Kohli and
- 34:01Rohit Sharma, they're 2 superstars have retired so they
- 34:05won't be around. It's a shame because we all
- 34:09thought that would be the farewell tour and it would have
- 34:11been a better spectacle. But it will still be a really
- 34:13good Test series of Always in English.
- 34:18I was going to say that's in England.
- 34:20Right, Yeah. So, you know, India like back in
- 34:23the day, they really struggled here.
- 34:24But you know, with with the money that they're generating
- 34:29these days and like the talent pool, it's so big and vast.
- 34:34You know, they've got so they got so much talent coming
- 34:37through. It's insane through the IPL.
- 34:40And obviously that, you know, feeds into, you know, their
- 34:43national team. Just to wrap up, anything else
- 34:46you guys are up to in terms of summer, like you go to any gigs
- 34:49or concerts or anything like that?
- 34:52Oh yeah, I mean, and we all go into Oasis.
- 34:56Yeah, you go to Oasis, Ashley, have I got you?
- 34:59Plus, what is it you? Might have to.
- 35:04You might have to put a bid in like everyone else.
- 35:07No, I'd. Pay the release clause.
- 35:09Pay. Pay the money.
- 35:11Show me the money. When is it when you guys go?
- 35:15Are you all going on the same day?
- 35:17It's loads of dates, right? So, Steve, where are you going?
- 35:21I'm going Manchester, I think it's the 11th of July.
- 35:24That's one of the best ones, isn't it?
- 35:25Yeah, I think it's the first or second weekend.
- 35:27Yeah, I. Think that'll be fun?
- 35:29Yeah, heat and park. I think there's 100,000.
- 35:33Thanks. Going to be there.
- 35:35It's funny because I got an e-mail the other day from
- 35:37Ticketmaster say because it's heat, it's just a big park, so
- 35:40everyone's got a standing ticket.
- 35:42But I got an e-mail saying you can apply to be in the front.
- 35:45Just sounds like a mosh pit, basically.
- 35:47Yeah. So I didn't, I didn't apply for
- 35:49that. But yeah, it's quite funny that
- 35:50you had to apply to be in the mosh pit.
- 35:52All standing. Oh, I can't do standing these
- 35:54days, man. No, I rambly.
- 35:56Don't worry, they're looking after you posh Southerners.
- 35:58I think they've got seats for you.
- 36:00I think, I think my tickets are standing.
- 36:02Yeah, I I would definitely swap them for seats if but yeah, if
- 36:06anyone. 'S listening.
- 36:07Yeah, if anyone wants to, I think I've got opening Wembley
- 36:11gig. I think it's Friday night.
- 36:13Is it how many you got, Ash? 2.
- 36:16Two. OK, cool.
- 36:18Just on the one day. Yeah, it's got someone's name on
- 36:22it. Yeah.
- 36:23Does it say K Hawk? What?
- 36:26What date have you got us? I don't actually know.
- 36:29I have no idea. It's one of the dates I didn't
- 36:31so corporate and the Oasis gig because Ashley's going to now
- 36:36get, you know, you're going to be his plus one.
- 36:38He's got, yeah. What would be your what would be
- 36:40your top five songs they've come up with?
- 36:43That's hard. OK, I like Round Our way.
- 36:46She's she's electric. It's probably my favourite.
- 36:49Yeah, it's a good one. It's a really.
- 36:50Good one. I'm trying to think of the non
- 36:54cliche. Ones, yeah, I was going to say
- 36:56you could almost do a top ten. You put the five cliche ones
- 36:59into that, into that section, right and.
- 37:00Then it's I like purely without vocals.
- 37:03I like the one they used and snatch fucking in the bushes.
- 37:06I think that's phenomenal. That's a good thing.
- 37:10Slide away, banger. I like slide away.
- 37:13I do like, oh God, there's so many champagne supernova.
- 37:17You might say that's thingy a bit more, you know, supersonic.
- 37:22I do, yeah. And then you've got the
- 37:23wonderwalls and whatever back in.
- 37:26Don't look back in Anger. Yeah, I think the five cliche
- 37:29ones are Wonderwall, Don't Look back in Anger, Champagne,
- 37:32Supernova, Live Forevers in there.
- 37:34But it's a tune, isn't it? But it's still cliche.
- 37:37What's wrong with the? Cliche.
- 37:40No, it's fine, but. You basically, oh, you've got
- 37:42your catalogue of five, a bit like they were doing the top
- 37:45five goals on the overlap, right?
- 37:47You've got your like, top five. Didn't realise Champagne
- 37:49Supernova was in there. That's interesting.
- 37:51Yeah, I didn't mind that it wasn't there when I was growing.
- 37:54Up, Yeah, I think recently. I thought, I thought roll with
- 37:57it would be in the top five, but maybe that's a generational
- 37:59thing. Because I saw Leon Gallagher.
- 38:02I saw Liam Gallagher in Manchester last year and I saw
- 38:04him at Knebworth three years ago and I think.
- 38:06Did she might Knebworth. He's brilliant man, he is.
- 38:08Brilliant. I think that's why they got back
- 38:10together because Knowles like, what's this guy doing making all
- 38:13this money off my songs so. I was gonna say sorry.
- 38:18Have you listened to the net Worth album on Spotify?
- 38:22It's brilliant. I've watched the concerts on
- 38:24YouTube a few times, yeah. So what's the top five cliche
- 38:27ones? So yeah, 100% Wonderwall.
- 38:30Yeah, yeah. Don't look back in anger.
- 38:32Yeah, I would put Champagne Supernova in there.
- 38:34That's freeze, yeah. Yeah.
- 38:36And then I've, I said Wonderwall, Wonderwall's in
- 38:39there, right? No, we said wonder.
- 38:40We said Wonderwall, don't look back in anger and champagne
- 38:44Supernova. So that's free, so possibly.
- 38:46Supersonic, but maybe not. I'd put live forever.
- 38:48Live forever. I I can show.
- 38:50Yeah, that's four. Yeah.
- 38:51OK, so then so I was gonna say their top five on Spotify is
- 38:54Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Stop Crying your heart
- 38:57out, Champagne Supernova and live forever.
- 39:00So that's their five. OK, So there's hits after hits,
- 39:05hits after hits. So if you're doing a 5 outside
- 39:08of that, then what's the five outside of that?
- 39:11So I definitely think she's electric.
- 39:13For me it's a good track. I'd put slide away in.
- 39:15It's like my show. Round our way I love, I think
- 39:19it's brilliant. There's so many, isn't there?
- 39:20As that's the problem magic. The the most non Oasis song that
- 39:25that I think is brilliant is Master Plan, but it's not very
- 39:29Oasis. It's kind of Noel Gallagher
- 39:30doing his thing. Yeah.
- 39:32My master plan's AB side, you know, AB side is kids.
- 39:36Come. On I don't know, I honestly, I
- 39:39chat to kids and I'm like oh we used to listen to cassettes and
- 39:41they had AB side and this is the B side.
- 39:43You turn the cassette over and press play.
- 39:46I used to like it used to be a record I.
- 39:50Think it's good you're not that young?
- 39:52Yeah, the most amount of exercise with my hands was this,
- 39:55you know. Good.
- 39:59It was that and not something else.
- 40:00You were trying to describe that.
- 40:02Funny story, I I, I bought, I bought guitar and then I learned
- 40:06how to play Wonderwall and then I gave up so.
- 40:09Could you still play it? No, I don't think so.
- 40:11What's? The easiest song in the world.
- 40:13I know, I know. I've done it like 10 years ago.
- 40:16I completed it. I completed it.
- 40:19But no, that's good. But so I'll see you there,
- 40:22right? Yep, we'll be listening.
- 40:26So what song did you go with us? You going with Master?
- 40:29No, the one the song I used to love in again it's a non album
- 40:32song but they released as a single is whatever.
- 40:35Oh, that's the one I was bloody going to use.
- 40:37Yeah, that that I put that in the top.
- 40:39Five, I'd put that in the CLI. Yeah, I'd put that in the Cliche
- 40:411 though. Yeah, OK.
- 40:43And the and the probably, but it's.
- 40:45A great track. Because these are all of the
- 40:47first two albums I'd quite like be here now.
- 40:51Do you know what I mean as well? The helicopter comes in and the
- 40:55duh and it builds up. Really.
- 40:57Sky used to use a lot of these songs actually for their intro
- 41:00so do you know what I mean? Used to be Monday Night Football
- 41:02back in the day. Yeah, and of course.
- 41:06I'll I'll go with roll with it then, seeing as that's not been
- 41:08mentioned. That was from what's the story
- 41:11morning glory like that was actually like my first real
- 41:14proper into Oasis because like definitely maybe like I was a
- 41:19little bit too young, but I think what's the story morning
- 41:22glory might be my first album as well.
- 41:25Got it from CD. Wow in the.
- 41:27Catalogue. Mine was 2.
- 41:31Mine was 2PAC. All eyes on me from HMV.
- 41:33OH. Yeah, good choice is it is.
- 41:35It Half the World Away is the theme tune to the royal family.
- 41:38Is it? Yeah, that, that's a good.
- 41:40One. Yeah, that's another B side.
- 41:42Yeah, yeah. Play that on guitar for you on
- 41:45the next pod. Yeah, nice, nice, nice.
- 41:48On that note, let's leave it. So, yeah, lovely to catch up,
- 41:52boys. Yeah, that's a wrap.
