- 3:58Speaker 6: three to one cracking.
- 3:59Speaker 7: Now al celebrity, he'll shoot that one blocked.
- 4:02Speaker 5: In front at of Larsit down to one meat.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Ryan Lingert slaps it up the board, Seattle.
- 4:07Speaker 9: Toward the.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Jaden Schwartz has got two and the Seattle.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Crackett go up four one.
- 4:23Speaker 7: With three twenty nine to play in regulation.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Well, there's that hard work I talked about. This time
- 4:29Speaker 6: it's Ryan Lingered in the corner going to battle and
- 4:31Speaker 6: getting a puck up the boards, and who's waiting for
- 4:33Speaker 6: it there, Jayden Schwartz, and he ammers this puck down
- 4:37Speaker 6: the ice into the open cage for one cracket.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Pretty impressive all things considered. Matt Murray was starting goaltender,
- 4:44Speaker 2: exiting Laton period had one due to a lower body injury.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Lane Lambert saying on Monday he is still under evaluation
- 4:51Speaker 2: for his prognosis. The Philip grow Bauer played his best
- 4:55Speaker 2: when the cracket needed him the most, turning in a
- 4:58Speaker 2: nineteen save effort on nineteen shots with a krack and
- 5:01Speaker 2: finishing their home stand at two oh and one in
- 5:04Speaker 2: a four to one victory over San Jose. Freddy Goodrow
- 5:09Speaker 2: making his return to the lineup in that game, and
- 5:11Speaker 2: he spoke more with the media after practice on Monday
- 5:14Speaker 2: in Detroit.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Got back into it on Saturday night and had five
- 5:18Speaker 4: different penalty kills going on, how'd that feel for you?
- 5:21Speaker 4: Being out there again?
- 5:22Speaker 10: Felt really good to be with that team again.
- 5:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:25Speaker 10: It's uh, I don't know.
- 5:27Speaker 8: Sometimes in the season you get into momentum and just
- 5:30Speaker 8: go again and again, and about when you're away, you
- 5:32Speaker 8: really cherish it even more and it makes you realize
- 5:36Speaker 8: how special it is to play all key every day
- 5:40Speaker 8: and be with a group like that every day.
- 5:42Speaker 10: So, uh yeah, it gave me.
- 5:44Speaker 8: Even a bigger sense of wanting to save her, save
- 5:49Speaker 8: it all, and it was it was fun to be there.
- 5:51Speaker 4: And overall, obviously first p K, you guys like to
- 5:54Speaker 4: have that one back, but the other five, you guys
- 5:56Speaker 4: look like you were connecting.
- 5:59Speaker 10: Yeah, it's adjustments for sure. Every time.
- 6:02Speaker 8: Every day you're trying to get better, trying to tweak stuff.
- 6:05Speaker 8: There's a that goal we gave up there is you know,
- 6:07Speaker 8: it's again it's just adjustment, learning from it, and that's
- 6:11Speaker 8: all you got to keep moving forward with with everything basically,
- 6:14Speaker 8: but especially with the peaking.
- 6:16Speaker 4: You and Tie obviously not only kill penalties together. You've
- 6:19Speaker 4: been on the line with them. You have new men,
- 6:22Speaker 4: you may have others. I mean when you have to
- 6:24Speaker 4: adjust or get to know new linemates, do you take
- 6:27Speaker 4: the lead on talking to them and what you want
- 6:29Speaker 4: them to do and vice versa.
- 6:31Speaker 8: Uh, you don't really say I want you to do
- 6:34Speaker 8: this or that because they're all on real players. So
- 6:38Speaker 8: it's just more about Yeah, it's about just staying together,
- 6:42Speaker 8: staying connected, you know, chatting, staying positive. I like it
- 6:46Speaker 8: when we when we stay positive. And Tie is such
- 6:50Speaker 8: a fun guy to play with.
- 6:52Speaker 10: It's been awesome.
- 6:53Speaker 8: He brings he brings it every night and he's extremely
- 6:57Speaker 8: positive every day and so it's been a lot of
- 7:00Speaker 8: fun to play with.
- 7:01Speaker 4: So but yeah, I know it wasn't much fun to watch,
- 7:04Speaker 4: But what do you think where they is the way
- 7:06Speaker 4: the guys played while you while you were out really good.
- 7:09Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, it was fun to watch. It wasn't
- 7:13Speaker 8: as fun as playing, obviously, but it was fun to
- 7:15Speaker 8: see them compete like that and stay together. He it's
- 7:18Speaker 8: a it's a fun group. It's really fun to be
- 7:20Speaker 8: around them and to be in the team and to
- 7:23Speaker 8: see the way they just competed every day. I was
- 7:26Speaker 8: just proud to be on that team.
- 7:28Speaker 6: When you're out, are you are you in film?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Are you around the guys as much?
- 7:32Speaker 6: What's that process like for you when you're not playing.
- 7:36Speaker 8: No, it was just more about getting myself back in
- 7:39Speaker 8: the game, getting my body ready again, and uh, I'm
- 7:43Speaker 8: watching it on my own. But no, there wasn't. I mean, yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 8: we were. We were actually involved in like team meetings.
- 7:49Speaker 8: When when the team is is at home on the road,
- 7:52Speaker 8: obviously we're we're just kind of doing our own stuff.
- 7:55Speaker 8: But when the team's at home, we were involved in
- 7:57Speaker 8: the meetings and stuff just to stay sharp.
- 7:59Speaker 10: Yeah, pretty pretty.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Do you look at the schedule in chunks or are
- 8:04Speaker 6: you more of a game to game guy? And depending
- 8:06Speaker 6: on your answer, what do you look for in terms
- 8:08Speaker 6: of goals for this trip or goals.
- 8:10Speaker 8: For tomorrow night. You know, the my wife and my mom,
- 8:14Speaker 8: they know my schedule more than me, to be honest,
- 8:17Speaker 8: that's just the truth. I I'm just a day to
- 8:19Speaker 8: day guy, and I approach it at data time. I
- 8:23Speaker 8: think sometimes it's not really worth it looking too far.
- 8:27Speaker 8: The reality is you get one game to focus on
- 8:29Speaker 8: and is the next one. And that's that's about it
- 8:32Speaker 8: for me.
- 8:32Speaker 3: So what are your personal goals going to the game
- 8:34Speaker 3: tomorrow night?
- 8:35Speaker 8: Just the details, you know, it's I pride myself in
- 8:38Speaker 8: doing the things right on the ice and I feel
- 8:42Speaker 8: like that's the way I can. I can do my
- 8:46Speaker 8: best to all the team have success. And that's the
- 8:49Speaker 8: thing for me. You know, when when you're away for
- 8:51Speaker 8: it was a month for me, Like I said, you're
- 8:56Speaker 8: kind of out of those things. You just gotta when
- 8:58Speaker 8: you come back, you gotta get all those tails back
- 9:00Speaker 8: in your game instinctually. And that's that's my focus, just
- 9:05Speaker 8: getting more and more dial and those those all right.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Joining us now on Cracking this morning. Alison lu Can,
- 9:11Speaker 2: great friend of ours. She tells a great story. As usual,
- 9:14Speaker 2: I'm back to bez always by the numbers. You can
- 9:17Speaker 2: see her of course Crack and Hockey Network pregame in
- 9:19Speaker 2: emissions postgame as well her handywork at seattlecrackin dot com.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Also one through of the Too Many Men podcast are
- 9:26Speaker 2: Hello to Sarah and Shana as well, Alison, A hearty
- 9:30Speaker 2: hello to you as well. Thank you for a few minutes.
- 9:33Speaker 2: But I mean, what a way to finish off the
- 9:36Speaker 2: homestand against San Jose. How'd you feel about these guys
- 9:39Speaker 2: walking out of the building after Saturday.
- 9:42Speaker 9: Well, first and foremost, thanks for having me, Mike, I
- 9:44Speaker 9: appreciate it. Yeah, there's a lot to like about this
- 9:49Speaker 9: group right now. I liked little bouts of adversity coming
- 9:53Speaker 9: up in that last game versus San Jose. I think
- 9:56Speaker 9: specifically of the start of the game when San Jose
- 10:00Speaker 9: once again tried to do what I thought they did
- 10:02Speaker 9: to this team a week ago, where they set the tone,
- 10:05Speaker 9: they set the pace, and the Kraken righted the ship
- 10:08Speaker 9: and started playing crack and hockey instead. And then Matt
- 10:12Speaker 9: Murray unfortunately leaves the game and Philip Grubauer comes in
- 10:15Speaker 9: response to that adversity with just an absolutely stellar performance,
- 10:20Speaker 9: and then that stellar performance is what saves them at
- 10:23Speaker 9: the start of the second period when they were basically
- 10:25Speaker 9: getting shelled for the first two to three minutes. So
- 10:28Speaker 9: seeing those lessons, learning from them, This just continues to
- 10:32Speaker 9: be a theme for me under head coach Lane Lambert
- 10:34Speaker 9: that this group is buying in. They want to get
- 10:37Speaker 9: better and they're going to do whatever they can to
- 10:39Speaker 9: address the areas that they need to as quickly as possible.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I love you touch on the goaltending part here
- 10:44Speaker 2: because this was so important I think for this last
- 10:48Speaker 2: week and in context, Joey to Cord could be back
- 10:51Speaker 2: soon and depending on how long Matt Murray's going to
- 10:53Speaker 2: be out.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Of action, we'll see.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But Philip Grubauer certainly picked a good time to have
- 10:58Speaker 2: a first are kind of night on Saturday. Allison, when's
- 11:02Speaker 2: the last time you're remember seeing him this dialed in?
- 11:06Speaker 9: Well, you know me, I went and looked up the
- 11:08Speaker 9: numbers and if we look at how much he exceeded
- 11:12Speaker 9: expectations in that last game, and remember it wasn't even
- 11:16Speaker 9: a full game for him, right, It was just over
- 11:17Speaker 9: forty minutes, so he didn't have the full sixty to
- 11:20Speaker 9: build up as much of an advantage. This was the
- 11:23Speaker 9: fifth best performance of his cracking career and only one
- 11:29Speaker 9: was better last season, and that was against Boston in December,
- 11:32Speaker 9: so this was I think it was Chandler Stevenson who
- 11:35Speaker 9: said postgame, this was vintage Groobauer. I love seeing him
- 11:39Speaker 9: come out authoritatively like that, and he was again. I
- 11:43Speaker 9: couldn't stop talking about him in postgame, and I'll keep
- 11:45Speaker 9: talking about him because it was just an amazing, amazing performance,
- 11:49Speaker 9: top twenty all time of his career.
- 11:51Speaker 3: The talk was certainly well deserved.
- 11:53Speaker 2: As Alison Luke an joining us right now on Cracking
- 11:55Speaker 2: this morning, I want to put the spotlight for a
- 11:57Speaker 2: moment on Jaden Schwartz because almost at a point where
- 12:01Speaker 2: people start defining difference makers, haves, have nots and more
- 12:06Speaker 2: with us about nearly a quarter of the way here
- 12:08Speaker 2: through the season, and we've heard so much about how
- 12:11Speaker 2: goaltending matters, Matty Benier's and whoever he plays with matters,
- 12:15Speaker 2: how the new guys can kick in as well. So
- 12:18Speaker 2: I won't go there yet with potential MVP candidate talk
- 12:21Speaker 2: for this team, but I frame it like this, It's
- 12:25Speaker 2: scary to think where this team would be without Jayden
- 12:28Speaker 2: Schwartz right now. What defines the kind of start he's
- 12:31Speaker 2: having right now thre eighteen games to you.
- 12:33Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, it's I have this conversation with people
- 12:37Speaker 9: quite a bit actually about how he just stays under
- 12:39Speaker 9: the radar while being just such an integral part of
- 12:43Speaker 9: what this group does when they're having success. You watch him,
- 12:46Speaker 9: He's always going to the net front. You watch his
- 12:49Speaker 9: little detail plays in small areas, his hockey IQ. It's
- 12:54Speaker 9: I think back, you know, I say this all the
- 12:56Speaker 9: time to last season Jordan everly goes down and what
- 12:59Speaker 9: veterans steps up and tries to put this team on
- 13:02Speaker 9: his back, and none other than Jaden Schwartz. So it's
- 13:05Speaker 9: really a testament to how he prepares and how he
- 13:09Speaker 9: thinks the game and how he contributes that he can
- 13:12Speaker 9: do so many things and still not get as much
- 13:15Speaker 9: of a spotlight as perhaps he should. And again once again,
- 13:18Speaker 9: you know, he's already got two multi goal games this season.
- 13:22Speaker 9: He's just been really important for this club, and I
- 13:25Speaker 9: think that he has to be in the room as well.
- 13:27Speaker 2: The Kraken could see jere mccamm back this week, which
- 13:29Speaker 2: could certainly help this lineup situation. That's TBD on the matter,
- 13:32Speaker 2: but I mean getting him back on ice recently in
- 13:35Speaker 2: practice is certainly a good sign morning skate as well.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But Freddie goodrou getting back on ice. I thought Allison
- 13:41Speaker 2: was so important too, And I mean one game doesn't
- 13:43Speaker 2: tell us maybe everything, But what were you reminded of
- 13:47Speaker 2: with the value that he's got in this lineup from
- 13:49Speaker 2: this last weekend.
- 13:50Speaker 9: Yeah, I think in first and foremost, it's the obvious
- 13:53Speaker 9: in terms of the PK and in terms of defensive
- 13:57Speaker 9: zone faith off the Again, here's the out for you.
- 14:00Speaker 9: Before he went down with injury, he and Chandler's he
- 14:03Speaker 9: and Chandler Stevenson were taking each about thirty percent of
- 14:07Speaker 9: the defensive zone face off, and when he went down,
- 14:10Speaker 9: Chandler started taking over fifty percent of defensive zone face off.
- 14:14Speaker 9: So he's going to help there, going to be part
- 14:17Speaker 9: of that number one PK. But this is another guy,
- 14:20Speaker 9: you know, even in the chances we've had to talk
- 14:22Speaker 9: to him and fans have been able to hear from him,
- 14:24Speaker 9: he's he's just such a great person and a great spirit,
- 14:28Speaker 9: and I think that that really helps bring the bind
- 14:31Speaker 9: and the bonds together in the room among the guys.
- 14:35Speaker 9: And he's got that versatility. He can play up the lineup,
- 14:38Speaker 9: he can play in all situations. I'm waiting to see
- 14:41Speaker 9: him in the shootout. He's got tremendous skill there that
- 14:43Speaker 9: we haven't been able to see yet. But I'm really
- 14:47Speaker 9: glad he's back.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that preseason shootout goal that he had was delicious.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And I mean I go back and think of something
- 14:53Speaker 2: that you pointed out and that he's got one of
- 14:55Speaker 2: the backgrounds that you can certainly root for, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 2: him coming up the minor league ranks, even at the EHL.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Everything is earned, nothing is given, and that's why you
- 15:04Speaker 2: can appreciate somebody like Freddie Gudreau and his background. And
- 15:08Speaker 2: something that you also pointed out elsewhere I thought on
- 15:11Speaker 2: the Craken website, I thought that was a gold nugget.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Adam Larson's goal marked twelve goals from their defenseman. Only
- 15:19Speaker 2: two have as much or more in this league, and
- 15:22Speaker 2: that's the Capitals and the Blue Jackets. I said Riker
- 15:25Speaker 2: Evans getting back in there. It takes them up a
- 15:27Speaker 2: notch with their mobility. But what are you making of
- 15:30Speaker 2: this effort collectively? That reminds you of a team that
- 15:33Speaker 2: is serious about contention?
- 15:36Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, I mean this is a team and
- 15:38Speaker 9: the way I like to say it is when they
- 15:40Speaker 9: say we need offensive contributions from our depth. That's not
- 15:44Speaker 9: just forward depth, that's defensive depth as well. And you know,
- 15:48Speaker 9: I think that definitely Vince Done, Brandon Montur and you know,
- 15:52Speaker 9: hopefully Riker as well are part of this new wave
- 15:55Speaker 9: of what a defender looks like, which is a lot
- 15:58Speaker 9: more offensively minded. Now that all being said, it's great
- 16:01Speaker 9: to get these goals from the defense, but you know, hopefully,
- 16:04Speaker 9: as you pointed out, Jared mccannon is coming back, because
- 16:07Speaker 9: you do want the lion's share of your production coming
- 16:10Speaker 9: from your forward group. There are more of them that's
- 16:12Speaker 9: play in the game, so getting them going is equally
- 16:16Speaker 9: as important so that as the defenders contribute, they're not
- 16:19Speaker 9: the only contributors on the scoreesheet.
- 16:21Speaker 2: All right, looking ahead here, first matchup of the Red
- 16:23Speaker 2: Wings coming up. Alex To Brinkett name second Star of
- 16:26Speaker 2: the Week in the NHL, and they've got an offense
- 16:29Speaker 2: that can just frighten you with the core that they have.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But Tom McClellan was pretty tense on their ability to
- 16:36Speaker 2: close out games. After a bad Buffalo overtime lost this
- 16:41Speaker 2: last weekend, they came back and beat the Rangers and
- 16:43Speaker 2: then Pandora's box opened on the ice after that. But
- 16:47Speaker 2: I mean, what's the big key for you coming up
- 16:50Speaker 2: here tonight for this game against the Red Wings.
- 16:52Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm going to be watching. Obviously, they're stars. You've
- 16:55Speaker 9: got to Brinket as the star of the week. As
- 16:57Speaker 9: you mentioned second start, he's on a point, Street Keys
- 17:00Speaker 9: on a goal streak, Raymond, Cider, Lark and Caine go
- 17:03Speaker 9: down the list. But for me, it's also about keeping
- 17:07Speaker 9: things that even strength on both sides. This is a
- 17:10Speaker 9: team that is eighth in terms of taking penalties and
- 17:13Speaker 9: eighth in terms of drawing penalties. So keeping in at
- 17:17Speaker 9: even strength, not letting their power play get going. They
- 17:20Speaker 9: move into i believe, right outside the top ten in
- 17:23Speaker 9: goals when you look at power play production so far
- 17:25Speaker 9: this season. So even strength, and then also just being
- 17:29Speaker 9: really sound defensively. This group doesn't get net front as much.
- 17:33Speaker 9: That's something Tom McClelland has been harping on them as well.
- 17:36Speaker 9: That's how they when they score, that's what they're doing.
- 17:39Speaker 9: So protecting, protecting the house, that dangerous area that blue
- 17:42Speaker 9: paint is going to be critical as it always is.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Great stuff, Allison.
- 17:46Speaker 2: We talk about even strength you make this TV side
- 17:49Speaker 2: always compete at full strength. Keep up the great work.
- 17:53Speaker 2: We'll get you back on soon, but in the meantime,
- 17:55Speaker 2: have a great show here for this evening.
- 17:56Speaker 9: Thanks again, right back at Ja Mike, thanks so much
- 17:59Speaker 9: for having me a right.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Allison, Thank you very much again. Alison Luken our friend
- 18:03Speaker 2: from the TV side, Crack and Hockey Network. You can
- 18:05Speaker 2: find her pregame, intermission and postgame also her written handiwork
- 18:09Speaker 2: on seattlecracking dot com. Additionally in the podcast space part
- 18:13Speaker 2: of the Too Many Men podcast with Sarah Sivian and
- 18:16Speaker 2: Shana Goldman. Looking ahead here to this saving a little
- 18:19Speaker 2: bit more the Crack and facing Detroit once again after
- 18:22Speaker 2: this game this next month at Climb the Pledge Arena
- 18:25Speaker 2: on December sixth, and the Crack and trying to keep
- 18:28Speaker 2: a good thing going. They have points in nine in
- 18:30Speaker 2: the last eleven games, six two to three record in
- 18:34Speaker 2: that run. Maddy Beniers maybe picking his game up here
- 18:37Speaker 2: also at a pretty ideal time, and you go back
- 18:40Speaker 2: to his Calder Trophy campaign back in twenty twenty two
- 18:43Speaker 2: to twenty three, when he scored twenty four goals and
- 18:45Speaker 2: nearly hit the sixty point plateau. This season start is
- 18:49Speaker 2: actually the best of his career twelve points so far
- 18:53Speaker 2: in the first eighteen games. He leads the cracking right
- 18:55Speaker 2: now with ten assists. As far as other injury updates,
- 18:59Speaker 2: head coach Lane Lambert Monday confirming Jared McCann and goaltender
- 19:03Speaker 2: Joey de Cord on the trip, they are progressing and
- 19:06Speaker 2: we'll keep an eye as far as when they are
- 19:08Speaker 2: due to return.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Here to the lineup.
- 19:10Speaker 2: They're cracking right now, catching the Red Wings and a
- 19:13Speaker 2: little bit of a funk.
- 19:14Speaker 3: As we said.
- 19:15Speaker 2: They come off a two to one win over the
- 19:16Speaker 2: New York Rangers, spelled by a Benz clearing altercation at
- 19:20Speaker 2: the final horn, but the Red Wings playing like a
- 19:22Speaker 2: pretty frustrated club in the most recent stretch, win less
- 19:25Speaker 2: in four of their last six games, but yet still
- 19:28Speaker 2: hanging around the top of the Atlantic Division at eleven
- 19:31Speaker 2: seven and one, tied for second with the Montreal Canadians.
- 19:36Speaker 2: As far as that core, who leads the Red Wings,
- 19:38Speaker 2: no surprise, it's Dylan Larkin, with a twenty three point
- 19:41Speaker 2: campaign so far through nineteen games, also pacing the Red
- 19:44Speaker 2: Wings with eleven goals. Alex to Brinkett last week NHL's
- 19:48Speaker 2: second Star honors Zs twenty one points in nineteen games,
- 19:52Speaker 2: and Patrick Kane, who is making a strong case as
- 19:54Speaker 2: ever for the Hall of Fame. He sits one point
- 19:56Speaker 2: behind Gi Lafleur for thirtieth all time in NHL scoring,
- 20:01Speaker 2: recently picking a point number one thousand, three hundred and
- 20:05Speaker 2: fifty two. The crack and trying to stop all that
- 20:08Speaker 2: in Detroit tracks this evening once again four pm Pacific
- 20:12Speaker 2: time put drop from Little Caesar's Arena, airtime coverage of
- 20:15Speaker 2: three point thirty and we certainly hope that you can
- 20:17Speaker 2: join us. Big thank you again to Alison Lucan for
- 20:20Speaker 2: joining us and for kracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Have a happy Tuesday and enjoy the game.
- 20:25Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
- 20:28Speaker 1: three kJ R FM.
