Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: One in zed stadium. It's Takaha kicking off with a
- 0:02Speaker 1: super bang FORANZAC weekend the Super Rugby Super Round ten
- 0:05Speaker 1: teams back to back games. Lee and Watson, chief executive
- 0:08Speaker 1: at Business Canterbury, joins me this morning, Get Alien, good morning,
- 0:12Speaker 1: very exciting weekend ahead for you. How many are you expecting?
- 0:15Speaker 1: What sort of activity in the city.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Oh, look, it'll be certainly a full house at the stadium,
- 0:21Speaker 2: So twenty five thousand people will be flowing out of
- 0:24Speaker 2: that stadium after the very first game tonight, and that
- 0:27Speaker 2: is a moment that christ Church in Canary has been
- 0:29Speaker 2: waiting for for a very long time. So it's a
- 0:32Speaker 2: super exciting day. But of course it is also just
- 0:34Speaker 2: the beginning for the city.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, because you've got six sixty and may haven't you?
- 0:37Speaker 1: You got Robbie Williams coming later this year. Anything else
- 0:41Speaker 1: that you want to announce to us this morning.
- 0:45Speaker 2: If I knew, maybe, but I don't. But look, I
- 0:48Speaker 2: think you know, this is a really exciting time. You know,
- 0:51Speaker 2: we know that the central city was largely sort of
- 0:55Speaker 2: rebuilt and that was the private sector. You know, we
- 0:58Speaker 2: had businesses and private investors you know, really commit early
- 1:01Speaker 2: and get into the central city and so this is
- 1:03Speaker 2: real payback for those businesses now that the stadium is
- 1:06Speaker 2: about to open and we will see not only our
- 1:08Speaker 2: own people from christ Chuch and Canterary in the South
- 1:10Speaker 2: Island coming, but those from the North Island. Have tried
- 1:12Speaker 2: to get a flight back from Willington last night. All
- 1:15Speaker 2: of them were full. It's a really great sign so
- 1:17Speaker 2: that it will bring people into the city and spending
- 1:19Speaker 2: money locally, which is exactly what we want.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Leanne, Are you seeing businesses make decisions about where to
- 1:24Speaker 1: locate themselves that sort of thing now that the stadium's
- 1:28Speaker 1: being built, Oh.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Look, definitely, but that's been happening for years actually, which
- 1:33Speaker 2: is good and as I said before, the private sector,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you know, really lead the redevelopment of the central city
- 1:39Speaker 2: on the basis that we were going to have the
- 1:41Speaker 2: stadium right in the heart of you know what is
- 1:43Speaker 2: now our world class central city. So people are still
- 1:46Speaker 2: making those decisions. You know, spoken to a number of
- 1:49Speaker 2: businesses that have got themselves positioned pretty close to the
- 1:51Speaker 2: stadium as well, and they'll no doubt be hosting clients
- 1:54Speaker 2: before the game tonight. So it's a real draw card.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It puts christ Uch back on the world stage. It
- 2:01Speaker 2: also bringing forces of course that you know, christ Church
- 2:03Speaker 2: is now a new, modern, ambitious city full of opportunity,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and that's great for our investors' scrateful businesses who are
- 2:11Speaker 2: looking to move here and also looking for people that
- 2:14Speaker 2: are wanting to move into christ chut I'm trying to
- 2:17Speaker 2: This really is more than just a piece of infrastructure
- 2:19Speaker 2: in the central city totally.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's sort of the icing on the cake, really, isn't
- 2:23Speaker 1: it for In terms of your entertainment, Leanne? What about
- 2:26Speaker 1: the hotel situation? Hotel and accommodation, have you got enough
- 2:29Speaker 1: of it in christ Church. I've been trying to book
- 2:31Speaker 1: tickets to stay.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I've got it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm coming to the concert, but I have been trying
- 2:35Speaker 1: to book a hotel and shit, things are a bit tight.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and look absolutely they are pretty tight. There's
- 2:42Speaker 2: a positive situation to have. We've obviously got you know,
- 2:46Speaker 2: the new Sheraitan hotel being built at the moment, that's
- 2:49Speaker 2: imminent and so there is more beds coming, which I
- 2:53Speaker 2: think we will definitely need. And that's a good sign that,
- 2:56Speaker 2: you know, we've got people who are wanting to come.
- 3:00Speaker 2: We hope that we can make sure we've got different
- 3:02Speaker 2: options of animal people, but I think that is deffinitely coming.
- 3:05Speaker 1: LeAnn Watson, Chief Executive Business Canterbury. Time is twenty two
- 3:08Speaker 1: minutes after five.
