2:28
The search for a county commissioner in Kanawa County. The names are in and
2:32
now Thursday nights, the sitting commissioners, Ben Slango and the commission President,
2:38
Lance Wheeler World took at that list and try to choose from there who the
2:40
next county commissioner will be. We'll get into that story coming up a little
2:44
a little bit later on, but I want to start this morning by talking
2:46
about everyone's favorite subjects, and that would be traffic. As someone who lives
2:52
in Tays Valley works in Charleston, I could talk about it all day,
2:54
but the traffic I'm talking about is not in that area. I'm talking about
2:59
Kannos and you may have seen the article last week in the exec mail giant
3:04
headline in the paper with a quote that said these businesses won't survive. The
3:08
person that's responsible with that quote is word twenty City countsman Chad Robinson. He
3:13
joins us now in the part of Bars store studio. Chad Counts when Robinson,
3:15
good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, thanks
3:17
for having me, Thank you for being here. You are someone that's lived
3:22
in the Kennos City area for a long long time. Have you ever seen
3:24
anything quite like this? Have not. I've lived in Kanos City for over
3:29
forty years and the construction we are having right now is the worst I've ever
3:36
seen. You know, let me first state that you know, this is
3:39
a this is a state highway job. This is not a City of Darreston
3:45
job. So and we're appreciative that the mcorkl's getting some attention now. It's
3:50
been decades before since it's been uh worked on. So we're appreciative. I
3:53
don't want to sound unappreciative of the work's being done, but the the what
4:00
it's caused is problematic for businesses and residents of Kanas City. Now, this
4:08
project started a long time ago. When it went exactly did it start over
4:11
two years ago. I was going to say it's been a while, Andy,
4:14
I think it was May of twenty twenty two. Okay, it seems
4:17
like it's been longer than that. It feels like a lot longer than that,
4:19
especially if you're somebody as you are, that travels in the area,
4:23
live in that area. And what is the current project end date? Because
4:28
since the article appeared in the because that mail last week and you were heavily
4:30
quoted in that, as were business owners in Kanas City, there's been some
4:34
updates to that. That's right. I've made some calls to meet and Hunt,
4:39
who is the project manager of the construction project. They tell me that
4:45
the end date for the major construction is still November of twenty twenty four,
4:50
that the before the blacktop plants closed, which is estimate middle of November,
4:57
that the major construction will be complete by then, but there are some extensions
5:02
in with Highways to have some other small projects done into the spring of twenty
5:10
twenty five. So it I mean the major part of every from what I'm
5:14
here and you say, is still scheduled and you know, things can happen,
5:17
but still scheduled to be by fall let's keep your things this year,
5:21
but there's still going to be the you know, the wrap up kind of
5:25
stuff that could take us into spring twenty twenty five. Did they tell me
5:28
that there's issues with the new lighting going up. There's some issues with utilities
5:33
with the lights, so I would say that those issues will go into twenty
5:40
twenty five. So here's a dumb question exactly what it is. What is
5:44
it that they are doing. What is the I mean, you see the
5:47
paving and everything going on, but what exactly is the scope of the entire
5:50
project? Council, the original plan was for the first eight blocks from the
5:55
hospital basically the hospital to forty fortieth Street to over an overhaul from concrete work
6:00
to sidewalks, to medians, to lighting, to new paving, all that
6:05
from forty first to basically the mall fifty eighth Street was a mill and paved.
6:13
That was a project they were going to determine after the first eight blocks.
6:16
Since then they did the other sixteen blocks, they've milled and paved it.
6:23
So in the meantime, we've had two construction projects going on in Kanas
6:27
City, stopping the flow of customers to our businesses in Kanas City and look,
6:32
you know, and again we're talking with Councilman Chad Robinson from Ward twenty
6:36
about the ongoing issues in Kanda City. You know, councilmen, we all
6:40
want progress, and we realize that with a project as big as this,
6:43
when delays are going to happen, people are going to be inconvenienced. I
6:46
mean, we all know that. But from what I've seen in talking to
6:48
people and what the article in the paper last week pointed out, what I
6:53
know you've heard. You're the council of the coverage that area. You stated
6:56
in the article. Some of these businesses simply will not make it until next
7:00
year. They haven't. I mean you can see the certain restaurants have closed,
7:08
certain small businesses have closed. We've lost budget from part of the construction.
7:15
They're just not going to make it. Today, I drove in through
7:18
Kenos City just to see the progress. I drive through it on purpose,
7:23
just to see how many people are there working, when they're working, what
7:27
they're doing. They have thirty seventh Street blocked from eminem Mart and T Mobile.
7:32
There's no way customers can park this morning at eminem marked or for lunch
7:39
getting in and out of Steak escape. These local businesses are just not going
7:44
to make it. They've stated they've lost fifteen to twenty percent of their business
7:48
for a Wendy's or a subway, things of that sort. They're going to
7:54
make it because they're corporate companies. But these locally owned businesses will have troubles.
7:59
And I'll take it in them. For an example. I mean,
8:00
I'll give a cheap plug for one of my favorite places to grab a real
8:03
deli style sandwich. Their business, according to the article, is down substantially.
8:07
And you said they're they're blocked off today and they, according to the
8:13
article and what you have seen, have been without water from time to time,
8:16
which is, you know, I'm no restaurant here, but it's kind
8:20
of important for a restaurant to be able to have water. And I mean,
8:24
that's that's just insanity all And I know the progress has to happen and
8:28
there will be inconvenience. Is we want to keep hammering that home, and
8:31
it will be worth it. But when you're trying to make payroll, man,
8:33
and you're trying to do, you know, conduct your business, that's
8:37
not a whole lot of console. That's translation. You know, from the
8:41
beginning of the project. Our goal was to educate the residents of Kanas City.
8:46
Uh. We've tried to do that. Between Counselmen Bruce King and I
8:50
and Counselwoman Pamburka and the city administration, we tried to educate and keep everyone
8:56
involved of what's going on. But the delays, over and over and over
9:01
again. We can't keep up and the frustration is mounting and it's overflowing.
9:07
And you told me before we went on the air, Councilman, that since
9:11
that article appeared in the Gaze mail last Thursday, that you had actually been
9:15
in contact. I think with some of the contractors and things that what are
9:18
they telling you. The meat and hunt there is frustrated from my conversation,
9:22
and I've been involved with the project managers just to keep updated on a weekly
9:28
or bi weekly basis, and there they're as frustrated as we are. There's
9:33
some issues with the division Department Highways that we all know, and that it's
9:41
flowing over into these small projects or large projects, and Konosity is seeing the
9:48
brun of it. We've got a text here someone said, please ask your
9:52
guests if the project includes new and improved signals. There are for the first
9:56
eight blocks. There will be new signals and new life. Another text here
10:01
says I can attest to the horrible traffic in Kanas City. I was visiting
10:05
a small business there last week. Was shocked how hard it was to get
10:07
to a store, and I basically had to block others to park as as
10:13
I did. The road workers basically scowled at me the whole time, like
10:16
I was inconveniencing them. Yeah, you know that these the customers are not
10:20
coming to Kanas City. If you have a choice to go somewhere else to
10:22
buy your groceries, You're not going to come through Kanas City and all that
10:26
traffic to go to Pigley Wiggley or Kroger's. You're going to go somewhere else.
10:33
And let's state for the record, you and I certainly are going.
10:35
I can't speak for you. I know I'm not an expert in this field,
10:39
but what could be done differently in your opinion to alleviate some of the
10:43
frustrations of the business owners and the residents, neither of mine. I don't
10:48
want it to portray that I'm a contractor. I know this business. I
10:52
know there's delays in every business but we could they could the first from the
10:58
beginning of the project. Uh, they were gonna work night, night times,
11:01
they were gonna work daytimes. They were gonna try to get the project
11:05
into certain phases quickly. Well you can see some of your guests will tell
11:11
you, or I can tell you from all the messages I received, seldom
11:15
do we see more than five or six people they're working. And you know,
11:18
you look at a lot of the construction work in other parts of the
11:22
state, there's a lot of people working on these on these projects. Kanas
11:26
City doesn't have that attention. And whether that's the contractor or the project manager,
11:31
I don't know. But work working when it's nice out is that with
11:37
the cones out, that's what we usually see. Mm hmm. Well again,
11:43
uh, it's it's from it's frustrating for those businesses, it's frustrating for
11:46
residents and things of that nature. And we don't want to uh. You
11:50
know, obviously everybody shares in the frustration. And there's been enough people I
11:54
know that's reach out to you and the other council people that that that covered
11:58
that area, and I know I've gotten and text of the show about it
12:01
as well. So that's why we wanted to try to ship to shed some
12:03
light on it. And I you know, I hope that what we can
12:07
do is as this construction ends, and it's going to be very nice hopefully,
12:11
you know, we see the influx of customers back in Kanos City.
12:16
We hope to do some uh open you know, open houses for new businesses,
12:22
things like that to get people back into Kanos City. Well, let's
12:26
end it on a positive note. This is eventually going to be a positive
12:28
note. Uh, it may not seem like it. Now, what what
12:31
else is on your radar? What else are you working on these days?
12:35
They do that that's exciting you? What about Charleston? I mean, look,
12:37
look the bike race. I was out of town. I heard big
12:39
things about the bike race came to Charleston. The sports tourism, it's it's
12:45
booming in Charleston. That's all we can look for. You bring people downtown,
12:50
heads and beds, you know, That's that's what Charleston's all about.
12:52
I'm gon get Tim Brady on the show here real soon, because they're they're
12:54
starting to look over the figures and everything. It'll be a little bit of
12:58
time ascertaining all that the mayor be on the show next Monday for her her

13:05

16:45
started before twenty twenty Texas. I drive through Canosity daily and observed weeks go
16:51
by without any work being done, says a Text. Or TEXTA says,
16:55
I'd say the folks at the pitch in Konah City deserve an apology from everyone
16:59
to criticize then for closing up shop abruptly, and they made them out to
17:03
be the villain when in fact it was the construction that caused them to lose
17:06
business and closed. Text says Dave. This Kanau City road word delay is
17:11
a disgrace. They need more people on the job, says a Texture.
17:15
Well, I mean, I don't know what the answer there is, but
17:18
if you tried to hire anybody lately, I'm just say Text says I go
17:22
to the studio beauty shop side of the eminem Mart and that treat has been
17:26
closed for months. I had to park two blocks away walk down the alley
17:29

17:33
Avenue. It was the scariest thing I've ever tried to do. Absolutely ridiculous.
17:37
How long is it taking? How long it's taken it should say.
17:40
Oh, there is also an elementary school and school traffic compromised during that project,

is with us, Brad, Good morning, Welcome to the show. Oh
19:00
hi, why are we not on the Metro News TV at days? Here
19:03
is what I'm finding every day, Brad. When I come into the studio.
19:07
There are more cardboard boxes in here. Now, I do know that
19:12
the producers of this show, The A Train, Anthony Harmon, Ryan Nicholson
19:17
and Hollywood Jeff Patty do on the weekend like to build forts with these boxes
19:21
and play some sort of army games, because that's what weird producers do.
19:26
But are there are a heck of a lot of box Brad. There are
19:29
a lot of boxes in here. So the boxes might not make great television.
19:33
What if you had cats and you broadcast your show and the cats were
19:37
playing in boxes? Within the view of the television. Well, somebody would
19:41
watch it. Somebody would absolutely watch it simply because well people people like cats.
19:48
Brad. What if I told you I invited you on the show and
19:52
the words Joe Manchin were not not going to be mentioned, would you believe
19:59
me, sir? You know, we all need a break. I believe
20:04
you. I believe you. You're a man of your word. Yeah,
20:07
okay, all right. I will say this though, Hoppy is due to
20:11
have honey to Mayor Steve Williams on the show this morning, so the name
20:14
mansion might be utter there, Brad, it might come up. I think
20:18
there are a couple of mansion adjacent adjacent segments. The first segment is Polster
20:27
Blankenship, his Mark Blankenship and his perceptions of how gubernatorial candidate Patrick Morrissey might
20:38
consolidate the Republican vote, which is adjacent to the issue of whether Joe Manchin
20:45
should run for governor against Patrick Morrissey, presuming that it's a challenge to consolidate
20:52
that Republican vote. Well, you know, Hoppy alluded to the event at
20:56
the Greenbrier last week, and I will say this and then we'll move on.
21:00
That's not why I had you. Al, let's talk about Joe Manchin.
21:03
Manchon was at the center of attention last week. I was actually there
21:07
at that event last week, last Wednesday night at the Greenbrier. Uh,
21:12
maybe he was the center of attention because baby Dog wasn't there. Governor Justice
21:18
was there, as was Democratic nominee and Huntington Mayor Steve Williams. No baby
21:22
Dog last week. So maybe that's why all the attention at the Greenbrier,
21:26
at the event that I attended that Hoppey alluded to. Maybe that's why Senator
21:30
Manchon was the center of attention last week. Uh, it could be,
21:34
and you know it's it speaks well of his political track record that he is
21:40
wanted for almost any opening you could possibly conceive of. Okay, I speak,
21:47
I think I speak, Brad for a great number of our listeners.
21:49
After hearing your reporting and reading the lead story this morning at wv metro News
21:53
dot com, Brad, I have to ask what exactly is an ambudsman?
22:00
You know, it's a fancy word for advocate. West Virginia's foster care system
22:06
is I use the word overloaded, But more than six thousand kids in state
22:10
custody, an ongoing tragedy of what Virginia's youth, and you know, the
22:17
state has systems to try to deal with those, but those systems aren't perfect.
22:22
So the legislature in twenty eighteen established this ombudsman position for when there are
22:30
problems with the system itself that need to be resolved, or somebody to advocate
22:37
for the kids or for the families who take kids in. That has been
22:42
the Ombudsman's job, and one person, Pamela Woodman Taylor, has filled that
22:51
position for almost five years, established it and took on its duties. The
22:56
legislature expanded the responsibilities and powers a couple of years ago, but it's been
23:03
one person really with the vision. And yesterday we reporters first got word and
23:11
then got confirmation that she is departing. The Department of Health provided a snippet
23:17
of her resignation letter alluding to an opportunity in another field, but it comes
23:27
against the backdrop of other conflicts within the realm of child protective services at Foster
23:37
Care. I am unaware of the ombudsman stating public concerns about her ability to
23:47
carry out her advocacy role, but it is naturally an area where West Virginia
23:59
does have problems. Some of those problems are you know, not nice,
24:04
not pleasant, not politically advantageous to go over in public. And the timing
24:15
of it made people who are very close to the foster care system wonder if
24:22
the only reason she's leaving is an opportunity or if there may be difficulties in
24:30
carrying out the job the way she sees it that it really should be carried
24:33
out. And again that's the lead story wv Metronews dot com. Brad mcklahonney's

24:57

25:00
Capitol as WSAZ has been, No, and I am incredibly confused about it.
25:07
What it means to be banned from the Capitol, so hopefully listeners saw
25:12
that clip. Last week, WSAZ had two reporters, Curtis Johnson and Sarah
25:19
Seger, who were staking out a meeting between the secretary of the Department of
25:30
Human Services. So, again getting back to some of the stuff is just
25:36
incredibly messy and difficult and conflict leaden areas of public policy. But this was
25:42
Cynthia personally, who was meeting with legislators, including Speaker Handshaw, House Health
25:48
Chairwoman Amy Summers send the Finance Chairman Eric Tarr about what that agency can disclose
25:59
and what it feels like it needs to keep private in investigations like the fourteen
26:06
year old girl who was discovered dead in a skeletal state in Boom County.
26:11
What we don't know is what the state's oversight position was in her situation,
26:18
to they check on her or not the kids that were kept in the shed
26:23
in Sissonville. You know, so many of these things. The state's involvement
26:27
remains a real tight knit mystery. So WSAZ was aggressively trying to ask about
26:34
it, and reporter Curtis Johnson followed Cynthia Pursley the Capital down the hallway out
26:42
of the Capitol and into the parking lot trying to get some answers. His
26:47
counterpart, Sarah Segar continued stayed behind to try to interview Senator Tarr and Speaker
26:53
Handshaw. Somehow she wound up in a shouting match with the Governor of Staff
27:00
Brian Abraham, who, in the midst of that said that they the W
27:03
SAZ would be not welcome at the capital anymore. That's that's the way I
27:08
took it. I can't remember the exact words. I will say that the
27:11
governor had a briefing on Friday, and Curtis Johnson participated in the briefing asked
27:18
a question, So I am, I don't want to test the parameters of
27:22
what it means to get a capital band, but I don't really know what
27:27
those parameters are. The very next day, the governor's folks did let W
27:33
SAZ be represented in the Governor's briefing well and again right right. And I
27:40
don't mean to make a lot of the situation, Okay, I do,
27:42
because I make a lot of every situation. But I do feel badly for
27:47
W s Z. Sarah Sagre. I don't know her personally, have never
27:49
met her, but the shouting exchange took place in the halls of the Capitol
27:52
last week between as you referred to, between the Chief of Staff Brian Abraham
27:56
and Sarah was unfortunate. And look, I know Brian Abraham well, I
28:02
said on the show. We grew up together. We sat in the same
28:04
grade school class together. Imagine this Logan High class of nineteen eighty eight having
28:08
myself, Brian Abraham, and former State Senator Richard Ojetta all in several classes
28:15
together. Imagine that for a moment hall of fame time by side they probably
28:19
are. My point is is that is that Brian is basically a good dude,
28:23
and I've known him, you know, literally for for well over forty
28:27
years. I'm not defending the outbursts, but I think it just goes to
28:30
show the frustration. And this is something you sort of alluded to that everyone
28:36
involved in state government has to quote our governor in some way former fashion and
28:41
what they're all feeling right now when it comes to this crisis, when it
28:45
comes to the kids of this state. As you mentioned from DHHR or whatever
28:51
initials we're using now to foster care and etc. Et cetera. Everyone on
28:56
every level, from the media to state government is just frustrated at this point
29:02
because we have a real freaking crisis in this state right now. Brad Well,
29:08
Yeah, So to that particular situation, the capital is a stressful place
29:15
and it is where conflict goes to be worked out. We wouldn't need an
29:19
executive branch or a legislative branch if we didn't have conflicts that need to be
29:25
worked out through policy. And this one got overheated. You know, I
29:29
think it's not ideal to be yelling at each other down the hallway, but
29:34
everybody's human. It can happen. As I saw that, I thought,
29:41
oh, perception may be that, you know, somebody who is a representative
29:51
at the state capitol may view that as their home turf. But when you
29:56
do it on the TV camera of porter whose audience knows and likes her,
30:03
if you're at the capitol or not, once it's on television, that is
30:07
television's home term. Easy to get surprised. I thought I was yelling in
30:14
the Capitol, but it turned out I was on TV. So not not
30:18
a great situation. But it's, you know, probably a one off.
30:22
Hopefully it is, but you know, it does seem like all of these
30:26
things are are really interrelated. Are our initial conversation mine and yours about uh,
30:33
the ombudsman for the foster care system, an advocate for those kids and
30:36
the families who take them in, leaving under a cloud of whether she really
30:44
got the cooperation she needed from the agency. And then these, you know,
30:51
unfortunately, case after case, the kids in the Systantville shed, UH,
30:55
the girl in Boone County who apparently starved to death, and remaining questions
31:00
about whether the ball was dropped state police. Clearly there's a record of state
31:06
police checking on her. March of twenty twenty THREECCHS television ran audio of the
31:12
trooper saying, we need to make a referral to CPS. The Department of
31:19
Human Services now saying that we have no record of that referral being made and
31:26
the girl was they say, not in their system. Leslie Rubin of the
31:32
WCHS asking the Governor at Friday's briefing, her sources told her that the trooper
31:38
drove to two in person, the local at the time DHHR office in Booe
31:45
County to report the situation. The Governor corroborating that that was the case according
31:52
to his understanding. I mean, the mother and the grandparents are being held
32:00
accountable through charges, criminal charges in the court of law. But the next
32:06
step, what was the state's responsibility if they were irresponsible? To what degree
32:14
was the state aware? And to what degree did the ball drop between agencies
32:20
who represent the taxpayers, who represent you know, West Virginia communities. It's
32:24
an incredibly frustrating and confusing situation and I haven't heard good answers yet. Yeah,
32:30
well, it's a lot to unpack. And again, as I said,
32:37
it's a bad situation. I know it's the understatement of the year.
32:39
Brad, What are you working on today, buddy? Before we let you
32:42
go? The governor returns today for a briefing, and you know, I
32:47
think he'll be asked a lot of questions. The issue of the girl in
32:52
Boot County continues. The governor made a reference last week to an investigation,
32:58
saying he couldn't allow laborate very much on his knowledge of the situation until the
33:02
investigation was complete. But he referenced that investigation without really providing any definition of
33:09
who's conducting it, what it's about, a timeline. So I'd like to
33:14
know more about that, and it would be natural for other reporters to ask
33:19
about the Ombudsman situation. So now that we know what Amsbudsman's is, right,
33:23
Ombudsmen, I really struggle with that word. It's not as bad as
33:30
fast, So I got it all right, Brad. We got to let
33:32
you governor. All right, man, We'll be watching, we'll be listening,

38:39
So who will be the next county commissioner in Kanawha County to replace Kent
38:43
Carper. Carper, of course, resigned from his post on the Friday before
38:45
the primary election. His name was still on the ballot during the May fourteenth
38:50
primary, but he was defeated by former Secretary of State Natalie Tenant, while
38:53
Chris Walters prevailed on the Republican side. Walters and Tenant will now face off
38:59
in the fall, but someone has to fulfill carper seat. Until then,
39:02
Natalie Tennant, former Secretary of State, would like it to be heard.
39:06
Now, remember the rules say that it has to be a Democrat and it
39:12
has to be from the correct magisterial district. Now, the other names are
39:17
out who submitted their names and are eligible. Those are Richard Dotttery, Larry
39:22
Rowe, Natalie Tennant. As I mentioned earlier, Chris Negley, Michael Scarberry,
39:27
and Mark Slodnik, as well as Richard Simms. So those were the
39:31
ones that passed all the tests, meaning there were probably a whole lot and
39:36
I haven't talked to any either one of the commissioners, but I'm sure there
39:38
were a lot more that actually entered. But you had to be a Democrat
39:42
and you had to live in one of the eligible magisterial districts. Those were
39:45
I think it was seven there that passed that test. So basically what they'll
39:51
do now it is up to Commission President Lance Wheeler and Commissioner Ben Slango to
39:58
choose from that list if they cannot agree, and that meeting is going to
40:02
be Thursday. I understand if they cannot agree on one of those, then
40:07
the County Democratic Executive Committee will present Soelango and Wheeler with a series of names
40:14
to choose from, and they will get it again, go through them and
40:20
much like a like a jury poll, they'll be able to strike one from
40:25
the other's list. More will be revealed Thursday night when the commission meets.

41:07
Speaking of traffic, as we were earlier quite a mess yesterday as many
41:12
of you were heading home from work when both lanes of sixty four West had
41:15
to be shut down as a tractor trader skidding on its side. Now,
41:19
that happened around three point thirty yesterday afternoon near the Washington Street and Civic Center
41:22
exit, and I think it was around two or so this morning, is
41:28
what I was told. That they got that up. Then there was a
41:30
major, major traffic back up this morning on the turnpike that I think now
41:34
has been clear. I think I heard that a little bit earlier, you
41:37
know, rex happened, but it's still quite frustrated, especially after long day
41:42
at work. No word yet on't what caused that accident yesterday, But people
41:45
just try to be a little more careful if you can out there. And
41:51
speaking of which, traffic seems to be the theme of the day here,
41:53
we started off by talking about the situation in Kanas City. Chris Lawrence has
41:59
a story on the website that the state police Jeff are fed up, fed
42:04
up, I said about people speeding on the I sixty four work zone and
42:09
they're out busting some heads figuratively not literally in the work zone today. I
42:15
travel it every day and it's like people just ignore the fact that the speed
42:22
limit is fifty five for a reason there is work going on there. So
42:29
now there is a combined effort from the State Police and the Governor's Highway Safety
42:36
Program and basically they are blending in with the construction crews kind of undercover,
42:45
if you will, and alerting the police that are sitting at various locations down
42:51
the road that you you and the Chevy Silverado license number dot dot, we're
42:55
speeding. And they're also looking for people that are texting and using their phones
43:00
and not using hand free devices, et cetera, et cetera, And they
43:06
are really concentrating on these construction zones on I sixty four and again, as
43:12
I said, I travel it every day, and I've been known to have
43:15
a little bit of a lead foot. Not gonna lie. Got my first
43:20
speeding ticket last year, fifty three years of age. And I got my
43:23
first speeding ticket last year in the state of Ohio, not in West Virginia,
43:28
first one yet. But you do need to slow down in the work
43:30
zones. And there's a reason again why it's fifty five. It's not fifty
43:36
seven, it's not fifty eight, it's fifty five through there, So please
43:39
please just slow down. And they are cracking down in that area. Texas,
43:45
it's already decided. Mark Slotnik has already been chosen. Okay, Well,
43:51
official confirmation I guess if that's true, will come out at some point

miss this. On Friday's show, following our visit with Hannah Gardner from the
47:45
Kenaal Charleston Newmain Association, Jim Strawn talking live on the levee, and a
47:47
visit from doctor Casey Sackevionbridge Valley, I'm gonna present Jeff Dave's advice for the
47:53
class of twenty twenty four. You're not going to want to mince this.
47:59
Let me go ahead and tell you now. I'll go ahead and get pomp
48:00
and circumstance ready to go. And you know it, Jeff, is the
48:05
Randy Savage theme song, but it was much more than that. So that's
48:08
the graduate song. Get it ready to go for Friday morning? All right?
48:12
You got that, man, Yes, I got that. And also
48:15
I think it wasn't just Randy Savages. I think it was gorgeous Georgia's as
48:17
well. There you go, there you go. I'm teaching you something about
48:21
old school wrestling exactly, all right, so get it ready. That'll be
48:23
coming up on Friday's show. So I'm going to close with this. I
48:27
realized I'm becoming the old guy, the old cranky guy who complains about traffic
48:32
or noise or people making loud noises at eight o'clock at night. I'm pretty
48:37
sure much near everything annoys me now. And I'm just going to say this,
48:42
I don't understand a lot in this world. Case in points social media.
48:45
Now, I'm on social media mainly to promote the show stations in the
48:49
building. I post about food. Yeah, I'm that guy. I talk
48:52
about my sports team, the occasional corny meme, so on and so forth.
48:55
That's pretty much the extent of it. For me, here's what I
48:59
don't understand the use of social media to totally attempt to destroy lives case in
49:06
point. And I'm not going to get into all the ugly details and not
49:08
even going to mention the names, because that's that's part of the problem.
49:14
Over the weekend, someone in the Charleston area had a not so pleasant exchange
49:20
with a business person also from Charleston. Had nothing to do with said business.
49:27
It was a neighborhood dispute. It happens the person who felt they were
49:31
offended by this business person then shows to share private messages between the two over
49:40
the dispute they had. Okay, whatever floats your boat, and then it
49:45
gets shared by everyone as if people to say, oh, look at me,
49:52
I'm a social media warrior who's going to take down a successful business person
49:55
in Charleston. It's it's bs no matter what. Because it happened between two
50:00
people I do know full disclosure, one of the people involved, the business
50:07
owner. I don't know the other person do. I'm not going to question
50:08
why they felt the need to take public what was a seemingly private conversation.
50:15
I don't even have as big an issue with that as their reaction to the
50:22
general public, most of whom probably don't know either party involved, and then
50:29
trying to contact the employer of that person to try to get them fired,
50:36
even going as far as to make comments on boosted Facebook posts by the person's
50:42
employer demanding that they be fired. One of the comments I read said something
50:49
to the effect of, we will accept nothing from you, meaning the business
50:52
owner, than this person's termination. People people do better. Most of these
51:02
people wouldn't dare, wouldn't think of saying anywhere near the things they say online
51:08
to a person's face because they may get punched in the face for saying it.
51:14
And I don't advocate violence, but sometimes I'm gonna be honest with you,
51:16
Jeff, I understand it. Anyway, Mind your own business. This
51:22
was a disagreement between two people that one of them chose to make public.
51:28
And the messages that I read that the business owner was getting or the business
51:34
person I was saying was getting talking about her appearance and making fun of her
51:39
name. And if you go and you look at the profiles of the people
51:45
who post a lot of this stuff, they tend to not generalizing, they
51:52
tend to not always but tend to overwhelmingly come from those who label themselves as
51:59
some what woke or enlightened or whatever they call themselves. Again, I just
52:07
I was got caught up in all this drama reading it over the weekend.
52:09
I'm not defending either. I'm just saying, folks, don't you have no
52:15
right in a disagreement between two people. You have no right to get involved
52:21
and to start sharing it among people you don't even know and saying let's destroy
52:24
this person's business career. I'm not defending the business person. I don't know
52:28
what actually happened. I'm just saying people do better go back to social media
52:34
being pictures of you know, cake and cats and boxes. As Brad said
52:37
earlier, all right, gotta go. My thanks Tolie with Jeff Petty and
