- 0:06Speaker 1: The Inside Scoop in person with e FT senior insider
- 0:08Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal. Ken, it is good to see you and
- 0:11Speaker 1: happy all Star festivities to you and to.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You guys as well.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You eminence, thank you, thank you so much better in
- 0:17Speaker 1: person it is it is. It's great Togain get a
- 0:20Speaker 1: hug and a handshake. And what did you when did
- 0:22Speaker 1: you think of the derby? First off, the new format
- 0:24Speaker 1: and how everything played out for Jordan Walker to have
- 0:26Speaker 1: his moment.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I thought it worked out great.
- 0:28Speaker 4: And a lot of people had some skepticism about the
- 0:32Speaker 4: new format, and understandably so anything different is growing to
- 0:35Speaker 4: raise some questions. But it was great. The fan involvement,
- 0:40Speaker 4: it's Philly, man, it was amazing. And to see Jordan
- 0:44Speaker 4: Walker do.
- 0:44Speaker 3: What he did, knowing where he was a year ago.
- 0:47Speaker 4: With that guy is accomplished. It's just one of the
- 0:50Speaker 4: reasons we love the game so much.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Worked it worked, I mean, I said, the only thing
- 0:53Speaker 5: that would have been better for Phillies of Schwarber would
- 0:55Speaker 5: have stood, But other than that, it was perfect. The
- 0:58Speaker 5: way the guys handled the booing from the Philly fans,
- 1:02Speaker 5: it was great.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Wilson Contreras, Jarby, Walker and Junior cram and Arro was
- 1:05Speaker 2: just here.
- 1:06Speaker 6: It was great.
- 1:07Speaker 4: No, I love him and I went to school here,
- 1:09Speaker 4: I worked outside Philly a little bit, so I know
- 1:11Speaker 4: the whole deal and it's just part of it here.
- 1:14Speaker 4: And to see Wilson Contreras in particular kind of play
- 1:17Speaker 4: into it, that was great.
- 1:19Speaker 5: That was perfect from his first half though right it's
- 1:22Speaker 5: it's I mean, I don't know that it's him all
- 1:24Speaker 5: the time. But what we talked about the last month
- 1:27Speaker 5: on the show about Wilston Contreras, it was like, I
- 1:29Speaker 5: don't know, I Philly fans really want to nerd this
- 1:31Speaker 5: guy because I felt like he was kind of like
- 1:34Speaker 5: gaining momentum with the Yes, he is.
- 1:37Speaker 4: A passionate player and it plays with a ton of fire.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's a little carried away at times.
- 1:44Speaker 4: We all know that he knows that, but I like personality,
- 1:48Speaker 4: got a big personality.
- 1:49Speaker 6: When the thrower almost hit him, was there any chance
- 1:52Speaker 6: to anyone?
- 1:52Speaker 5: I was like, charge him mount because it was like
- 1:55Speaker 5: his last swing and the guy almost drilled him.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I mean, it's his hand picked choicey, I know, but
- 2:00Speaker 3: think he's gonna charge them that.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I think he would have considered it if it wasn't
- 2:06Speaker 1: what like the pressure that situation. He really needed the
- 2:09Speaker 1: one more home whatever it was. So that's a little tough.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's like random time period. You do get the stoppage
- 2:14Speaker 1: because there's no clock here, right, Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Which actually worked out.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Okay, I know there were fewer home runs hit, but
- 2:21Speaker 4: it couldn't follow it before it was going.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So this was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah. I was worried in the beginning. Actually with the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Contreras set bat, I think it was his last swing
- 2:30Speaker 1: and he took like five pitches. They start booing, and
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was I texted these guys. I was like, is
- 2:34Speaker 1: this going to be the thing where that everybody's taking three,
- 2:37Speaker 1: four or five pitches, especially towards the end.
- 2:39Speaker 3: But they didn't really do that.
- 2:41Speaker 4: The sounds of Billy right now for anybody wondering, right,
- 2:45Speaker 4: it didn't really.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Happen that way, My goodness.
- 2:47Speaker 4: It's batting practice pitches guys that again are hand selected.
- 2:52Speaker 4: They should be able to get the ball over the
- 2:54Speaker 4: plate within a span of five So.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Did you nobody hit the whole the moneyball until I
- 2:59Speaker 5: think Jordan so short. No one hit a home run
- 3:02Speaker 5: on the money ball to the was that just guys
- 3:04Speaker 5: trying to are saying like oh, I have to hit
- 3:06Speaker 5: a home because you guys.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think it was a little probbably because it was
- 3:10Speaker 2: a build up too. But I think it was build
- 3:12Speaker 2: up too because.
- 3:12Speaker 5: They're like, oh, now we have a magenta ball. Oh
- 3:16Speaker 5: and three, I think Hunter Pence was staying on the
- 3:19Speaker 5: air last night when he said, oh, it's plus, it
- 3:21Speaker 5: looks different.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yes, you're used to the white and then well pink
- 3:24Speaker 2: part of it, right question.
- 3:26Speaker 5: So it was interesting, though I don't think they're sending
- 3:29Speaker 5: magenta balls to guys to practice with. I heard that
- 3:32Speaker 5: the last two guys took those magenta balls into the
- 3:35Speaker 5: cage to practice with.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Smart Smart.
- 3:38Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 3:39Speaker 2: It wasn't from Jordan Walker or Kyle Schwarberg.
- 3:42Speaker 7: But yeah, I will say this, when you see, oh wow,
- 3:45Speaker 7: four hundred and ninety feet four hundred and seventy feet,
- 3:49Speaker 7: well they had a super Bowl like quality the balls did.
- 3:52Speaker 6: So no, you never do.
- 3:53Speaker 3: That, No, they would never.
- 3:56Speaker 5: There was the balls that they used with zero drag
- 3:58Speaker 5: June No, no, no, that was because of oil.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Coloring, the great this coloring of twenty twenty six.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But you're right, it's like you look at the career
- 4:09Speaker 1: eye distance and then you look and You're like, wait,
- 4:11Speaker 1: so he can hit forty one?
- 4:13Speaker 3: No, no, I like it.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You have to.
- 4:16Speaker 3: You have to a knowledge that it's just yes.
- 4:19Speaker 1: It is like, there's no secret. They're not denying that
- 4:21Speaker 1: part of it. It's fun. So okay, now tell us
- 4:24Speaker 1: about All Star Game. What are you most excited? Abu
- 4:26Speaker 1: obviously will be on the fields, a lot of storylines.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Actually, I'm most excited about being in Philly with their
- 4:33Speaker 4: all Stars. They're gonna play big roles, obviously, shorter start
- 4:37Speaker 4: in the game, Christopher Sanchez start the game, and just
- 4:42Speaker 4: for the country to see what this place is like.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Now the average fan probably knows, but it will be
- 4:50Speaker 4: more electric than.
- 4:51Speaker 3: The usual All Star game. I'll say that.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Because it's here.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Do you do you think the average fan outside of
- 4:56Speaker 5: Philly actually knows what Philly fans or do you think
- 4:58Speaker 5: they just know the Oh they're brutal, They've boost Sanna
- 5:02Speaker 5: all that.
- 5:02Speaker 4: They know that that that you're right, Eric, that's what
- 5:04Speaker 4: they know. But the other side of that is this
- 5:08Speaker 4: amazing energy in that ballpark. And there are some of
- 5:11Speaker 4: the ballparks like that. Peco in San Diego has become
- 5:14Speaker 4: like that. So I'm not saying this is the only place,
- 5:18Speaker 4: but it is unique in.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Its way extures Wrigley, so that could be and.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Really, yeah, that's a fun place too, different kind of inviting.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Different fun. Yeah, different energy. That's more of a yes,
- 5:32Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 5:33Speaker 3: More more about thirty thousand people at a bar.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And lovable as they used to be called lovable losers,
- 5:39Speaker 1: but they've won sence for Philly. I am most excited
- 5:42Speaker 1: to see the ovation for Mike Trout because I think
- 5:45Speaker 1: that the Philly crowd has this energy that can almost
- 5:47Speaker 1: make you emotional. And he's been dealing with those questions
- 5:50Speaker 1: for years now, and I know he shoot him away
- 5:52Speaker 1: again basically saying he's not going anywhere. But how do
- 5:55Speaker 1: you think that moment will be when, hey, remember when
- 5:57Speaker 1: Philly got Trey Turner going last year or the year before,
- 6:00Speaker 1: kind of got him out of a slum.
- 6:01Speaker 4: God.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Actually, it's an interesting question.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I don't know that it will be as electric as
- 6:05Speaker 4: it will be for the Phillies players.
- 6:07Speaker 3: But he is a hometown kid.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Essentially, he grew up right over the bridge, not right over,
- 6:12Speaker 4: but in that part of New Jersey, and we all
- 6:17Speaker 4: know he's a huge Eagles fans. Most Phillies fans. I
- 6:20Speaker 4: am quite sure aware of that, So yeah, that could
- 6:24Speaker 4: be an emotional moment.
- 6:25Speaker 1: He's never been cheered here, so that's to me, what
- 6:27Speaker 1: would stand out. You're in now a city that you love,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and you haven't you know, you've been asked about that
- 6:32Speaker 1: spot for years, and I think Philly fans are smart
- 6:36Speaker 1: enough to know, hey, let's make him feel it a
- 6:38Speaker 1: little bit. And this might not be the best example,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but I remember when Schooble went to WBC then he's like, wait,
- 6:42Speaker 1: this is epic.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I want to say you can change someone's emotions. Well,
- 6:47Speaker 3: I'm sure if it's as good as you think, it's
- 6:49Speaker 3: gonna be Scott, he'll be asked after the game.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Okay, Mike, what about Philly?
- 6:52Speaker 4: Now, he's been asked out a lot over the years,
- 6:55Speaker 4: and he's been out of it.
- 6:56Speaker 3: He's been pretty not pretty consistent, extremely consistent.
- 6:59Speaker 1: In his Buckston too. They asked yesterday, And I mean,
- 7:03Speaker 1: those guys have no trade clauses. So when they're saying that,
- 7:05Speaker 1: do you feel like they're just putting it out that
- 7:08Speaker 1: I would deny this or my team would.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It's not leverage in those particular cases.
- 7:13Speaker 4: It's not I have a no trade clause, and I
- 7:15Speaker 4: want to use it to get something into trade.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Those guys actually want to stay where they are.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, so you what if the Philly fans Cheerbucks
- 7:23Speaker 2: he think about it, I will know.
- 7:26Speaker 4: I think Ronin Buxton has been very vocal and adamant
- 7:31Speaker 4: about wanting to do this in Minnesota in the same
- 7:34Speaker 4: way that Trout has been that way with the Angels.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Trout's position has been I want to win here. Now
- 7:39Speaker 4: we all know under this owner it might be all
- 7:42Speaker 4: but impossible to win there. But that is his loyalty
- 7:46Speaker 4: and in his defense, and I know people don't necessarily
- 7:50Speaker 4: buy this, but they paid him a lot of money.
- 7:53Speaker 4: He feels an obligation. Actually, that's kind of what you
- 7:56Speaker 4: want out of your star player. And I know there's
- 7:58Speaker 4: always the question, well, there's really.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Want to win.
- 8:01Speaker 3: He wants to win, but he wants to win in
- 8:02Speaker 3: that place where he got the money.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Many people have this problem. I want to eat healthy.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I have the willpower, I don't have the time and
- 8:10Speaker 1: the organization. I need help. What do you do?
- 8:13Speaker 5: I mean, you go to factor. I got two boys
- 8:15Speaker 5: that are looking for the gains and they always come
- 8:17Speaker 5: in the house, which is I'm looking for food.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Now.
- 8:21Speaker 5: They have actual healthy food that is great for them,
- 8:25Speaker 5: and you know what, it's ready in the fridge for
- 8:27Speaker 5: them to pop in and make it right away.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And they have meals built around your goals. It could
- 8:32Speaker 1: be weight loss, overall, nutrition gains, more protein, fresh never frozen,
- 8:38Speaker 1: over one hundred rotating weekly meals, including globally inspired flavors
- 8:43Speaker 1: like Mediterranean and Asian. I get all kinds of different
- 8:46Speaker 1: salads from Factor that I love, quick easy. They can
- 8:50Speaker 1: be ready in two minutes. Head to Factor Meals dot com.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Slash foul fifty off and use code foul fifty o
- 8:58Speaker 1: FF to get fifty percent off and free daily greens
- 9:00Speaker 1: per box with new subscription only while supplies last until
- 9:04Speaker 1: nine twenty seven, twenty six. Loyalty good for him.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Loyalties Yeah, I get it.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Hey, also today you have I mean, we'll spend a
- 9:12Speaker 1: few minutes on this. On the finish line, the labor
- 9:14Speaker 1: battle takes center stage.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Oh go ahead, Joe trade.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Yeah, has a Tiger's gotten themselves back in and enough
- 9:20Speaker 5: where scooball might be off the table.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Now we need to see what happens in the next
- 9:24Speaker 4: two and a half weeks, So I don't don't. Here's
- 9:28Speaker 4: the thing, AJ. Let's say your premise is right that
- 9:31Speaker 4: he's off the table. Now, well, what if they tank
- 9:33Speaker 4: in the next couple of weeks and they're out of
- 9:35Speaker 4: it again?
- 9:36Speaker 3: And even now they're.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Eight under Granted they're close in the wildcard race and
- 9:40Speaker 4: not that far away in the division race, but if
- 9:43Speaker 4: they go south again, it becomes a much easier question
- 9:49Speaker 4: to me. If they're competing, it's going to be really divisibult.
- 9:52Speaker 4: It's you're trading him back to back style, young Werner.
- 9:55Speaker 4: You've got a chance to do some things in a
- 9:56Speaker 4: league that is down. And hey, even the Judge news
- 10:00Speaker 4: could affect this. Let's say Aaron Judges out for the
- 10:03Speaker 4: year or even out until September, and we don't know
- 10:06Speaker 4: what exactly is going to be. Why wouldn't the Tigers,
- 10:09Speaker 4: if they stay hot, think of themselves as a legitimate
- 10:12Speaker 4: contender for the American League title.
- 10:14Speaker 2: There's no reason they shouldn't.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Do we have a judge update, we don't.
- 10:17Speaker 3: We're waiting for his imaging to take place in the
- 10:20Speaker 3: next couple of days, and anybody else that.
- 10:23Speaker 6: The Yankees can't get it.
- 10:24Speaker 2: They can't get an MRI they can't call him.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well, no, they can.
- 10:28Speaker 3: They're doing it now.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're not.
- 10:30Speaker 3: In a range shown already and they haven't announced it.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and if there was bad news, you think they
- 10:36Speaker 1: want to share it on all started.
- 10:37Speaker 3: I would hope. Now there's kind of a blackout on
- 10:40Speaker 3: news today.
- 10:40Speaker 1: That's fair. Any other teams in the last few days
- 10:43Speaker 1: that you think are weak that changed their complexion, I
- 10:46Speaker 1: know one that you might see they're in the same position,
- 10:50Speaker 1: they fall back again, then things might change.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It's not decided by any stretch.
- 10:55Speaker 4: And the Red Sox keep in mind, I wrote this
- 10:58Speaker 4: it was about to two and a half weeks ago.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Their schedule was getting easier. This road trip.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, they won nine straight. They did it against the Angels,
- 11:06Speaker 4: White Sox who were not playing as well, and the
- 11:09Speaker 4: Mets so okay, But now you've got Tampa Bay coming
- 11:13Speaker 4: right out of the break again. It's kind of the situation, guys,
- 11:16Speaker 4: where the next couple of weeks will be almost like
- 11:18Speaker 4: a Pennant race, because these teams are racing to see
- 11:22Speaker 4: just who they are.
- 11:23Speaker 1: A's and Reds I think could be sellers. We're trying
- 11:25Speaker 1: to I'm trying to rack up the sellers. It's not
- 11:27Speaker 1: that I want teams.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Looking that way.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Reds are looking that way for sure.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 4: The Orioles are an interesting team because they two games
- 11:35Speaker 4: out on the lock art. They have their first four
- 11:37Speaker 4: game winning speak of the season. Did it against the Royals.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So we convinced.
- 11:41Speaker 4: No, we're not convinced. Should they be convinced. No, but
- 11:44Speaker 4: we'll see over the next couple of weeks. Again, how
- 11:47Speaker 4: it's all transfer.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Those teams have pieces that people want, or just have
- 11:51Speaker 2: the right hand of bats right, yep, yep, Orioles, Reds
- 11:54Speaker 2: have some pitching.
- 11:55Speaker 4: And bullpen Spencer Steers steers the guys.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Sure, Taylor Ward's I mean, if you want to do something.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's it's hard to find right handed power,
- 12:05Speaker 1: so extremely just named some names there that that could fit. Okay,
- 12:08Speaker 1: last two minutes we were at man for an and
- 12:11Speaker 1: first Meyer or Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 3: They both spoke to the Baseball Writers today.
- 12:14Speaker 4: It's annuals thing where the Baseball Writers meet at the
- 12:17Speaker 4: All Star Game and each representative from the league in
- 12:21Speaker 4: the Union, the tough guys speak to us. Now when
- 12:24Speaker 4: it's a non bargaining year, the questions are much different
- 12:26Speaker 4: than they were today, and I wouldn't say anything earth
- 12:30Speaker 4: chattering came out of it. The owners aren't coming off
- 12:32Speaker 4: a salary cap. The union's not coming off its opposition
- 12:35Speaker 4: to a salary cap. But they remain both sides quite
- 12:39Speaker 4: firm in their conditions.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Okay, so nothing crazy. They're they're not. You'll see some
- 12:43Speaker 3: news come out of it.
- 12:44Speaker 4: There's some interesting comments, for sure, but it's not like
- 12:48Speaker 4: anything changed.
- 12:49Speaker 1: In that way, right It's going to be a long time.
- 12:54Speaker 2: The Philly fans didn't change Rob Manfick's mind on the
- 12:56Speaker 2: salary cap.
- 12:57Speaker 4: No. One of the highlights was Bruce Meyer saying that
- 13:03Speaker 4: it was perverse. That was the word he used, perverse
- 13:06Speaker 4: of MLB and the owners to suggest that the game
- 13:09Speaker 4: is not a great place right now, to say that
- 13:11Speaker 4: the game is suffering, it's broken.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I mean, those are not the exact words to use,
- 13:15Speaker 3: but perverse is the word he used.
- 13:17Speaker 4: And Manfred had his own points of view, and I
- 13:21Speaker 4: happened to disagree with many of them.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Some fans might agree. But again, there'll be some stories.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Coming out of it. I encourage people to read. Yes,
- 13:28Speaker 4: Evandrelic and Andy McCullough coming up.
- 13:31Speaker 1: We're on it. In the Athletic Ken is on Fox.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You'll see him tonight for the All Star Game and
- 13:36Speaker 1: their coverage. Ken, thank you, good to see us, see
- 13:38Speaker 1: you guys. Yeah, let's charge, let's talk All Star What
- 13:45Speaker 1: are you guys most excited for?
- 13:49Speaker 8: Uh?
- 13:50Speaker 6: I kind of thing where Ken said?
- 13:51Speaker 5: Jonathan Sanchez taking the field on the top of Chrisser
- 13:54Speaker 5: Jesus Jonathan Johnathan the old lefty for the Giants.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Take a bunch tickets.
- 13:58Speaker 6: He did, he was nasty.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Christopher Sanchez, who I picked to win the Cy young,
- 14:03Speaker 5: I think I would know his name.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Taking the fields four vers first and bat.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I want to see the reaction trout kids, and I
- 14:11Speaker 5: just like seeing the guys here, especially for the first time.
- 14:14Speaker 5: You get to take the field and get out there smile.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Everyone's smiling, everyone's happy. It's it's like the purest form
- 14:22Speaker 5: of baseball because everyone's happy. Numbers don't matter. Guys give
- 14:27Speaker 5: up hits, they laugh about it. Guys do something cool
- 14:30Speaker 5: they laugh about it's not it's not as pressure packed
- 14:33Speaker 5: as its normal games.
- 14:35Speaker 1: A celebration, yes, yeah, I have to.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Players feel honored to be there, and like the guys
- 14:41Speaker 5: that play, I think they enjoy it. I think being
- 14:45Speaker 5: because I'm going to the game, I think it's something
- 14:47Speaker 5: that I'll miss. Is I love the micd up. I
- 14:50Speaker 5: think they add more and more miked up players for
- 14:52Speaker 5: the All Star Game. But being there, I love feeling
- 14:57Speaker 5: the energy in the park where it's like there's not
- 15:00Speaker 5: a lot of ebbs and flows. It just feels like
- 15:02Speaker 5: the same energy because you want to see something cool
- 15:06Speaker 5: and on every play you don't have really a rooting interest.
- 15:10Speaker 5: You just want to see something cool, like throw this
- 15:12Speaker 5: ball as hard as you can, hit this ball as
- 15:14Speaker 5: far as you can, Stuartstop. I remember Bobby whitten Mae
- 15:16Speaker 5: to play the other year where we went in the
- 15:18Speaker 5: hole and he just gotted it across the infield. Like
- 15:20Speaker 5: That's the kind of stuff that I love about All
- 15:22Speaker 5: Star Games. You don't have that disappointment excitement as much.
- 15:26Speaker 5: I guess we will with Philly fans.
- 15:37Speaker 1: All right, this is it last couple of minutes here
- 15:39Speaker 1: of FT. We are going to look at yesterday's locks.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Oh oh, somebody decided not to go with a winner
- 15:46Speaker 1: and choose a matchup Bryce Harper to beat Ben Rice
- 15:50Speaker 1: in a head to head minus one ten check.
- 15:53Speaker 5: But I'm glad I didn't go with Wilson Contro or
- 15:56Speaker 5: Jordan Walker, two guys that I thought are good hitters,
- 15:58Speaker 5: but maybe.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Not quite the extension. Well, Ben Rice.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Not a lot of people at Jordan Walker winning the Derby,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and it has nothing to do with anything but other
- 16:08Speaker 1: big star power that you get attracted to, and that's
- 16:11Speaker 1: what happens. Money Bags is looking good so far this year.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Aj what is going down this evening at the All
- 16:17Speaker 1: Star Game? If you had to predict and you're putting.
- 16:19Speaker 5: A lockdown, Listen, I'm an American League guy. I played
- 16:22Speaker 5: most of liken the American League. I'm taking the National
- 16:24Speaker 5: League run line. But it's now the National League should
- 16:29Speaker 5: be a better team and they should win this game.
- 16:31Speaker 5: So I'm taking the National League run line.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Well that's easy for me.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I'm taking the National League run line as well. I
- 16:37Speaker 3: think the NALL is going to win.
- 16:38Speaker 1: It's at minus one thirty with the money line the
- 16:40Speaker 1: run lines plus one fifty.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I mean, so you go from just winning to have
- 16:44Speaker 6: me win by two. Yeah, I think is a much
- 16:48Speaker 6: better team.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I agree where you could see uh, you know, seven
- 16:52Speaker 1: to kind of situation. This is one of the most
- 16:55Speaker 1: lopsided years ever. National League Versale.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Often the Ale had the edge.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm not just talking about at the All Star again,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm just talking about life. And I do think part
- 17:03Speaker 1: of it was a d H factor in there. It
- 17:05Speaker 1: does help me build your roster a little bit differently.
- 17:07Speaker 1: That's not a thing anymore. For years. We're going with
- 17:10Speaker 1: the run line for the National League. I'm sure you're
- 17:12Speaker 1: gonna do something else I have I'm.
- 17:14Speaker 5: Going to do and cease two strikeouts in the first vining. Oh,
- 17:20Speaker 5: what's pay plus one ten? Okay, he's gonna face I'm
- 17:24Speaker 5: not saying he might want a guy. He might give
- 17:26Speaker 5: up a hit first, somebody might catch a catch a heater.
- 17:31Speaker 5: But he's going for the punchies. And so Schwarber, Soto, c. J.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Abrams is in there. Fred and if Freddy was like,
- 17:41Speaker 5: he's not a big strikeout guy. But it's and it's
- 17:45Speaker 5: all it's all lefties for the right. For the National League,
- 17:49Speaker 5: it's all lefties. And then the American League is a
- 17:52Speaker 5: lot of Righty's.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Right, but seize his face and lefties at the top.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Right, That's what I'm saying. Yeah, it's fine threating out
- 17:59Speaker 2: the world.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Okay, I want to, and then I don't have to
- 18:03Speaker 5: worry about my bed after the first inning, and I
- 18:05Speaker 5: can just enjoy the game. I'll be there in person.
- 18:07Speaker 5: So if you hear somebody yell from the crowd when c. J.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Abrams punches out, he's a second strikeout.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Down on crats for something unique, but something to root for.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Right in the first inning, Pap sent in a pick two,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but just on the screen for us. We'll get packed
- 18:23Speaker 1: back on video next week. I think Pop's enjoying his
- 18:26Speaker 1: All Star break.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Probably his WiFi is down? Is that what you're saying?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Could he have come here? Like?
- 18:31Speaker 3: What would the receptions? So why wouldn't see all the time?
- 18:36Speaker 5: I mean I think maybe the Phillies have to invite him. Okay,
- 18:39Speaker 5: all time saves leader. Here is such a vibe. It
- 18:41Speaker 5: would have been so fun. A J and I would
- 18:43Speaker 5: have had a great time with him at the I
- 18:46Speaker 5: am not oh yeah, I am not taking the American
- 18:48Speaker 5: League money line, but I love that Pap is taking
- 18:50Speaker 5: the American League money line. That graphic is right for Pap,
- 18:54Speaker 5: wrong for me, but I will definitely say Pap here.
- 18:57Speaker 5: It would either be loved or hate it, and I
- 19:02Speaker 5: think majority would be loved.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yep. That's cool.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I mean Philly fans should like just perhaps five is fun.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Hey.

- 20:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 20:40Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 20:42Speaker 6: That's what he said.
- 20:43Speaker 1: That's what he said. We've had reporters on the scene
- 20:51Speaker 1: for media Day and that includes a conversation with Mike
- 20:55Speaker 1: draptris Or Whitaker and Alana Rizzo. I have been all
- 20:57Speaker 1: around Philadelphia talking to the players, start with Mike Trout,
- 21:01Speaker 1: who was asked about it's like, how could a fan
- 21:05Speaker 1: take down Jacob Mizrawski and Mike Trout had an idea.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Make contact fatball. I don't know.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I mean you would have to think they would get lucky.
- 21:13Speaker 6: I'm saying minimum one hundred.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Brandon marshat one thousand, and you think that's the next
- 21:17Speaker 1: thing that all Star games should do, just to make
- 21:19Speaker 1: look what you guys do even more than impressive.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Just pull some random fan out of the sand. I
- 21:23Speaker 6: mean it'd be it'd be interesting.
- 21:26Speaker 3: It's a great idea.
- 21:26Speaker 6: It'd be great.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it'd be interested for sure.
- 21:30Speaker 1: To just make contact.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It was just make contact, not gonna hit, so it.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Could go foul. Like you was saying, okay, I think.
- 21:39Speaker 2: People could do that.
- 21:40Speaker 5: You get a random panic and run into one just
- 21:44Speaker 5: foul at all, getting a hit, actually putting them all
- 21:47Speaker 5: in play.
- 21:47Speaker 6: That the ability to get a hit would be almost impossible.
- 21:51Speaker 2: It has to be a two way street.
- 21:53Speaker 5: If like this is just out there just throwing like
- 21:55Speaker 5: ninety two ninety three baseballs by people, somebody would get it.
- 22:00Speaker 5: If it's like if you give up any kind of contact,
- 22:04Speaker 5: you you know, he loses something and the fan gains something.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Zero two way share. I thought you were like, oh, well,
- 22:12Speaker 1: if the fans an accountant, then he has to do
- 22:13Speaker 1: tax returns.
- 22:15Speaker 5: No, no, no, these are the best in the world,
- 22:20Speaker 5: and the miss is one of the best of the
- 22:22Speaker 5: best in the world.
- 22:24Speaker 1: But it always creates that debate where you know, it's
- 22:26Speaker 1: the hardest thing to do.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Is is it a big lead pitch?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Anyone can make a basket at some point, although if
- 22:35Speaker 1: you're being guarded by the best defender in basketball, can
- 22:37Speaker 1: you get a point off him? Probably not, honestly.
- 22:39Speaker 2: No.
- 22:40Speaker 6: I remember the old MJ stories were MJ.
- 22:43Speaker 5: I think it was the MJ played Ozzie g And and
- 22:45Speaker 5: Joey kra the same time and they scored a couple
- 22:48Speaker 5: of baskets.
- 22:49Speaker 3: They did score on two on one, I know, but still.
- 22:52Speaker 5: And then they talked to him. Imagine Ozzie talking a
- 22:55Speaker 5: little trash and then he's like, okay, And then I
- 22:57Speaker 5: was like, scored like fifteen rantoff they didn't. He's like,
- 23:00Speaker 5: mading you a shot. All yep, it's a great It
- 23:03Speaker 5: was in spring training when he was at the White Sox.
- 23:05Speaker 6: They were talking.
- 23:06Speaker 5: He's like, all, let's go play whop. So there's a
- 23:08Speaker 5: court right there, and they did it and it was
- 23:10Speaker 5: two on one and they got smashed.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Of course, I would imagine.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I think there's I think there's a lot of things
- 23:15Speaker 2: in sports like.
- 23:16Speaker 5: That that I love that that was asked to try out,
- 23:19Speaker 5: because there's a lot of things. I think people get
- 23:21Speaker 5: a false sense like Federer. People are like, I.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Could return when a Federer serves no, no, you can't.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Like I think we especially in a social media age,
- 23:35Speaker 5: because you have contact, you have ways of like connecting
- 23:37Speaker 5: with players, connecting with players that they think, oh, well,
- 23:42Speaker 5: he just like me, Like you're not getting to hit
- 23:45Speaker 5: all schemes. You're not You're not touching the miss's best fit.
- 23:49Speaker 5: It's too fast forward.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And you teat up. Our next little clip from media
- 23:54Speaker 1: day that went viral that wasn't really our.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Sound.
- 23:59Speaker 1: When super Viral Paul Skins was about to get a
- 24:04Speaker 1: question from Alana Rizzo, she was rudely interrupted by some
- 24:09Speaker 1: random person that should not be at media debt. Here's
- 24:12Speaker 1: what it sounded like.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Sorry, just got the best interview at the whole time.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Out sup and brown future Yankee. I don't know, so
- 24:25Speaker 1: I didn't get the full lowdown. And I'll talk to
- 24:27Speaker 1: Alana or someone from our team behind the scenes there
- 24:30Speaker 1: because we posted the clip. And then some people are
- 24:32Speaker 1: like Oh why is falter? I'm like, that wasn't ful territory.
- 24:34Speaker 1: We posted the clip, we put reporter in the caption
- 24:37Speaker 1: who had said, like, you.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Can tell you where they're from, but I probably shouldn't
- 24:40Speaker 5: until you guys verify where they're.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Okay, that's fair, But either way, it sounded like they
- 24:44Speaker 1: were doing one of those Hey guys, I'm live and
- 24:46Speaker 1: I got to ask a question of Paul Skiings future Yankee,
- 24:48Speaker 1: and it's just like, we got to clean that up.
- 24:51Speaker 2: That's too much because then players aren't going to want
- 24:55Speaker 2: to do it correct.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That's too much putting them on offers. That's weird.
- 25:00Speaker 5: It's it doesn't. It doesn't give the It doesn't give
- 25:05Speaker 5: players like man I really had a great time with that.
- 25:09Speaker 5: It's already another thing on the schedule along with what
- 25:11Speaker 5: we talked about with Max, Like you're signing a thousand autographs,
- 25:15Speaker 5: you're doing all this and that, like now you're gonna
- 25:18Speaker 5: be asked questions that make you look like you can't
- 25:21Speaker 5: wait to get out of Pittsburgh.
- 25:22Speaker 6: It doesn't.
- 25:23Speaker 5: It doesn't give us. It doesn't give players the like
- 25:27Speaker 5: real touchy feely feel.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Would you be bothered if you were schemes on the
- 25:32Speaker 1: pirates and there's some you know, TikToker going I just
- 25:35Speaker 1: got to ask reactate.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I'd probably say some smart ass on that backed up. Honestly,
- 25:43Speaker 5: I don't know would I be bothered by it. I
- 25:45Speaker 5: mean I would just said, hey, I'm a piriate right
- 25:49Speaker 5: now and I'll see what happens down the road.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I don't think I would have been bothered by it. Afterwards.
- 25:54Speaker 6: I would just been like, how about this jackass?
- 25:56Speaker 2: Than anything?
- 25:57Speaker 9: Uh?
- 25:58Speaker 6: Or maybe I would have set it right into space.
- 25:59Speaker 6: I don't know, but it would. It was just a
- 26:01Speaker 6: stupid It's the.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Same as Bryce Starverer say, clown crush.
- 26:04Speaker 6: It's basically this guy was just looking for Alick.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I know what you would have said. I guess they
- 26:08Speaker 1: give anyone to credential these days. I feel like that
- 26:11Speaker 1: would have been such an AJ line.
- 26:13Speaker 2: True. True, how did you get your credential? Where are
- 26:16Speaker 2: you from?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Yes?
- 26:17Speaker 1: What do you do? And do you know how this works?
- 26:19Speaker 1: Next up? Yankees Actually Cody Bollinger and Alana Rizzo well
- 26:25Speaker 1: one on one conversation.
- 26:26Speaker 8: I love the fact that it's just all about winning.
- 26:30Speaker 8: It's like, show up to the ballpark and win the
- 26:33Speaker 8: fans are great. They're very passionate. But I think it
- 26:36Speaker 8: like brings out the best in you. I think, you know,
- 26:38Speaker 8: I think I just love everything about it. And uh,
- 26:42Speaker 8: you know, Dad played and he's got a few rings
- 26:45Speaker 8: with them, and that that's the end goal for me.
- 26:46Speaker 6: So I really love it.
- 26:48Speaker 8: And the locker room and the clubhouse culture is great.
- 26:52Speaker 10: This is a team obviously that certainly for obvious reasons,
- 26:55Speaker 10: missus judge in that lineup, how do you maintain the
- 26:58Speaker 10: position in continuing to push to get into that postseason
- 27:01Speaker 10: without him?
- 27:01Speaker 8: It's been hard, I think, you know, I think all
- 27:04Speaker 8: of us understand, like you can't just put it all
- 27:06Speaker 8: on one player, like he's probably he is the best
- 27:08Speaker 8: player in the game, like hitter, you know, so losing
- 27:12Speaker 8: that bat definitely hurts, and losing his presence in the
- 27:14Speaker 8: locker room, his president's in the lineup, I mean, he's
- 27:17Speaker 8: in the locker room, but losing his presence in the
- 27:19Speaker 8: lineup and h it's it's up to us. We got
- 27:21Speaker 8: to play better. We got to step up to the
- 27:23Speaker 8: plate and understand that we got to pick it up.
- 27:26Speaker 10: Always gone Schlittler front runner for the ale Cy Young Award.
- 27:30Speaker 10: What has he done that's really impressed you.
- 27:33Speaker 6: I think for me the same thing as Ben.
- 27:35Speaker 8: I think these these these guys are so knowledgeable. Like
- 27:39Speaker 8: I remember coming up and I was like, you know,
- 27:41Speaker 8: just swinging, But these guys are smart.
- 27:44Speaker 6: They have a plan, they.
- 27:45Speaker 8: Know what they want to do, and uh that's and
- 27:49Speaker 8: obviously the stuff is electric, but the brains, they got
- 27:53Speaker 8: good brains.
- 27:54Speaker 10: Less for me, what's been the part of your game
- 27:57Speaker 10: that you're the most proud of since one glad did
- 28:00Speaker 10: your first MLV interview one hundred years ago to today
- 28:02Speaker 10: sitting here as an All Star again, what.
- 28:04Speaker 8: Am I most proud of of my game? I would say,
- 28:11Speaker 8: I would say the resilience. Oh, you know, got punched
- 28:15Speaker 8: in the face a little bit, but you know, you
- 28:18Speaker 8: just got to punch back, and that's what I did.
- 28:21Speaker 1: That was awesome a line, And first of all, I
- 28:23Speaker 1: didn't realize that, but of course should know. She was
- 28:25Speaker 1: the first person to interview him when he made the
- 28:27Speaker 1: big leaguess Cody Pollinger, he has gotten punched in the face.
- 28:30Speaker 2: AJ, he has a couple of times the shoulder.
- 28:33Speaker 6: Daughter's got riddo and they went to the clubs.
- 28:35Speaker 5: She were like, oh, he's done and then he goes
- 28:37Speaker 5: to the Yankees and has a great year, signed some
- 28:39Speaker 5: nice contract and was having another dude, great guy to
- 28:42Speaker 5: talk to you if you ever get the chance.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I got to talk to him yesterday in the locker.
- 28:46Speaker 6: His first second. He's just so, he's just a kid.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's a happy guy.
- 28:50Speaker 3: He is.
- 28:50Speaker 6: He's very happy.
- 28:51Speaker 5: He's always complimentary. I literally ran into him for a second.
- 28:56Speaker 5: It's all kind of all the Yankees. I just happened
- 28:59Speaker 5: to walk in and just have sitting there and he
- 29:01Speaker 5: was he was great, and he was just really nice guy.
- 29:05Speaker 6: And Ben Rice was great too.
- 29:06Speaker 1: For the thirty second to get Oh, he's super nice. Yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 1: we've interviewed him a couple of times on this show.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Next up Dave Roberts, who is managing the National League
- 29:15Speaker 1: All Star team, and he spoke with Elona Rizzo about
- 29:18Speaker 1: Justin Robleski making that team and the changes that he
- 29:21Speaker 1: made to get to this status.
- 29:24Speaker 10: Justin Robleski. We were screaming off of the rooftops that
- 29:27Speaker 10: this man should be an All Star ten and two
- 29:30Speaker 10: sub era or sub three era. He gets in, needed
- 29:33Speaker 10: a couple of things to go his way, but he
- 29:34Speaker 10: got in. What's made him so special. I feel like
- 29:36Speaker 10: he's he's the un you know, the the unmentioned ace
- 29:39Speaker 10: of the staff.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Almost.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That's fair, that's fair.
- 29:42Speaker 9: And I think the thing is that I told the
- 29:43Speaker 9: guys once we announced that he was an All Star,
- 29:47Speaker 9: you know, last April eighth, he was in my office
- 29:50Speaker 9: pretty much in tears once we sent him out, and
- 29:53Speaker 9: he gave up eight to the Nationals that day, and
- 29:56Speaker 9: to his credit, he went back, looked in the mirror
- 29:58Speaker 9: and said, how do I get better? How do ID
- 30:00Speaker 9: become a major league pitcher? Cleaned up his closet, got better,
- 30:04Speaker 9: And I think for me, it's like he's felt the pain.
- 30:06Speaker 9: He's a tough kid. He goes after guys. He's learned
- 30:10Speaker 9: what you know, because I always tell the pictures the
- 30:12Speaker 9: hitters will tell you what you need to work on, right,
- 30:14Speaker 9: And he took that to heart. And now he's an
- 30:16Speaker 9: All Star, and like you said, he is an unherald today.

- 30:54Speaker 5: Cole Hamils saying, then you get to play and do
- 30:55Speaker 5: it in front of your home team, which is very
- 30:59Speaker 5: even more special, but your first one is so awesome.

- 31:16Speaker 1: had a prompt appointment at one thirty and we promised
- 31:18Speaker 1: him one thirty and we delivered and it's not easy.
- 31:22Speaker 2: And then not easy, and then I saw him in
- 31:24Speaker 2: there schmoozing around, picking his lunch up all that stuff,
- 31:28Speaker 2: like he wanted to get out so he could have
- 31:31Speaker 2: a Luxtra time to hang out with the FT crowd.
