Oregon Warns: New Mpox Strain on the Rise | Portland News
Oregon health officials are warning about a more dangerous form of mpox, Clade I, which is spreading faster than before—especially in Europe and Africa. While the 2022 outbreak was mostly Clade II, this new variant could cause more severe illness. The state is urging high-risk individuals, especially men who have sex with men, to get vaccinated ahead of summer events. Mpox spreads through close skin contact, and Oregon’s highest cases are in Multnomah County, mostly among Black and African American adults in their 30s.
