- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second to day free
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as Puppas left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What up, folks,
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is Michael Bumpus along with my producer Nasa Choby.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk Preview edition. But we're talking
- 0:39Speaker 1: about the playoffs. Baby. The Hawks are going to filling
- 0:43Speaker 1: to take on the Eagles. Now, before we do all that,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we're gonna get into the injury report and I'll send
- 0:48Speaker 1: it over to Nas. Thanks. Michael Petkarroll step to the
- 0:51Speaker 1: podium this week and gave updates on Quandre Diggs, Marshawn Lynch,
- 0:54Speaker 1: Jadeveon Clowney, Dwayne Brown, and MALIEK. Turner. Yes he's going
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think, he said, on Monday that Marshawn kind of
- 1:02Speaker 1: came out pretty well days later. Any, he's good, he's
- 1:05Speaker 1: ready to go, ready practice today and no hesitation. How
- 1:08Speaker 1: about Molique Turner, He's gonna he's got some test to
- 1:12Speaker 1: do today to get cleared for them arow and everything
- 1:14Speaker 1: is trending towards he's gonna be back. Um, but I
- 1:17Speaker 1: say that, and he's got a meeting here right now
- 1:19Speaker 1: that he's gotta you know, performing and show that he's okay. Right. Um,
- 1:24Speaker 1: he's working at it. He's trying to he's trying to
- 1:25Speaker 1: get back. Um, he's going forward and see what he
- 1:29Speaker 1: can do. I don't know anything right now, there's nothing
- 1:31Speaker 1: he's done on the field yet. Jady. Yeah, he's fine. Well,
- 1:35Speaker 1: he's practicing and going. He's doing the best he can,
- 1:37Speaker 1: so he's ready to go again. The best news out
- 1:39Speaker 1: of all of that it looks like Quandre Diggs will
- 1:41Speaker 1: be available to go this weekend, which is huge news
- 1:44Speaker 1: for the Seahawks secondary. All right, Bump, let's get back
- 1:46Speaker 1: into it. You like you mentioned the wild card playoffs.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It's the second season. The Seahawks are the fifth seed
- 1:52Speaker 1: in the NFC, going on to take on the NFC
- 1:55Speaker 1: East Division champs nine and seven Philadelphia Eagles nine and
- 2:00Speaker 1: seven in their hosting. Yeah, man, we all know we
- 2:03Speaker 1: signed up for you know what I mean. It's disappointing.
- 2:05Speaker 1: We have a better record, but it is what it is. Man,
- 2:07Speaker 1: it benefited us a long time ago. So hey, it's
- 2:09Speaker 1: a new season. We already know that this team is
- 2:12Speaker 1: seven and one on the road this year, So I
- 2:14Speaker 1: don't think being on the road is gonna be an
- 2:16Speaker 1: issue with all this postseason. No, not at all. You know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: obviously we wanted to win that game, gets the forty
- 2:20Speaker 1: nine ers to get Minnesota at home. But I'm confident
- 2:23Speaker 1: on the road. The thing that you have to respect
- 2:26Speaker 1: about the Philadelphia Eagles, though, they won four games in
- 2:29Speaker 1: a row after being five and seven, so this is
- 2:31Speaker 1: a resilient group. You got a Carson Wentz who was
- 2:34Speaker 1: bawling right low key balling. No one's talking about him
- 2:36Speaker 1: over four thousand yards about twenty seven touchdown, seven picks.
- 2:40Speaker 1: He is bawling in he doesn't have a lot of
- 2:42Speaker 1: targets to go after. So you gotta respect this offense.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You have to. I mean the first the first matchup,
- 2:48Speaker 1: the Seahawks obviously were victorious. The final score was seventeen
- 2:52Speaker 1: to nine. It really wasn't that close, honestly, if you
- 2:54Speaker 1: look at the game, it was seventeen to three until
- 2:57Speaker 1: about a late garbage time touchdown with twenty sacks remaining
- 3:00Speaker 1: in the game. But Carson Wentz has been doing it
- 3:02Speaker 1: without guys. Man, they've missed a ton of receivers. If
- 3:06Speaker 1: you look at their offense, they're kind of middle of
- 3:08Speaker 1: the pack in terms of offense per game three hundred
- 3:10Speaker 1: and sixty yards that's fourteenth in the NFL. Their pass
- 3:14Speaker 1: offense is eleventh in the NFL two hundred and thirty
- 3:16Speaker 1: nine pass yards game. And running the ball they're a
- 3:19Speaker 1: little above middle of the pack, ranked eleventh at one
- 3:22Speaker 1: hundred and twenty one yards per game. So they still
- 3:24Speaker 1: got weapons. Man, I mean, but at the end of
- 3:26Speaker 1: the day, it's Carson Wentz. It's all about Carson Wentz,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and he's having a really good season. They look average
- 3:33Speaker 1: on paper, but we know they, like you mentioned, it's
- 3:35Speaker 1: a resilient bunch and this is the playoff. Their head coach,
- 3:38Speaker 1: Doug Peterson took them to a Super Bowl couple of
- 3:40Speaker 1: years ago. They have guys that are battle tested, so
- 3:43Speaker 1: definitely not a team you want to take lightly, not
- 3:45Speaker 1: a tim you want to take lightly. And then you
- 3:46Speaker 1: look at their rush defense to rank number three in
- 3:49Speaker 1: the league rush defense only letting their opponents average about
- 3:52Speaker 1: ninety yards per game. You know what these Seats want
- 3:54Speaker 1: to do. They want to rush the football to average
- 3:56Speaker 1: about one hundred and thirty. Last week they had about
- 3:58Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty one drew five with their backups
- 4:01Speaker 1: with their fourth string running back leaning the way. And
- 4:04Speaker 1: then there's Marshan and we still haven't seen Turbin yet,
- 4:06Speaker 1: so there's gonna be some chess chess going here, in
- 4:09Speaker 1: chess match going here. Yeah. In all season long, obviously
- 4:13Speaker 1: with Chris Carson, Rashad Penny seat their process, the Seahawks
- 4:16Speaker 1: have faced top ranked rush defenses and been prevailed every time. Well,
- 4:20Speaker 1: the Buccaneers came into Seattle to the number one rush
- 4:23Speaker 1: defensive Seahawks were able to run the ball. The forty
- 4:25Speaker 1: nine ers are a really good run defensive Seahawks. Both
- 4:27Speaker 1: times we're able to run the ball. So it's happened
- 4:29Speaker 1: throughout the season. The Vikings another good run defense, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: we were able to run two hundred plus yards on him.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So it's something to Seahawks want to do. It's a
- 4:36Speaker 1: part of their philosophy, and I definitely think that's so
- 4:38Speaker 1: going to be part of the game plan. I think
- 4:40Speaker 1: with their track record, doesn't matter who's carrying the ball,
- 4:42Speaker 1: they can get that done. Yep, it doesn't matter. It's
- 4:44Speaker 1: all about the guys up front and the timing of
- 4:46Speaker 1: the play calling, and I think Shannenheimer's done a great
- 4:48Speaker 1: job of that. Now, let's talk about their first game
- 4:51Speaker 1: against Filling in Week twelve. The defense play one of
- 4:53Speaker 1: their best games of the season. The defensive line zig
- 4:56Speaker 1: Y Allonsa had one a half sacks, two QB hits
- 4:59Speaker 1: at one fourth lem Rashim Green won sack, Kim Griffin
- 5:03Speaker 1: four tackles, almost had a sack, and was superactive Read
- 5:07Speaker 1: a half sacked, three tackles, Puna one tackle for loss,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and was this rough of all game. That's kind of
- 5:12Speaker 1: what they need to do. If Carson Wentz is the
- 5:14Speaker 1: key to Philly having success, the d line's going to
- 5:17Speaker 1: be the key to stopping them having that success. Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And another big thing about that first matchup is there's
- 5:22Speaker 1: no Geveon Clowney exactly, So having him back and having
- 5:25Speaker 1: that D line in full strength, like you mentioned, Reid Ford,
- 5:28Speaker 1: Keem Griffin coming off the edge, Rashiem Green, who had
- 5:31Speaker 1: a really good sophomore season. Obviously, he loved the team
- 5:34Speaker 1: in sacks. The Seahawks didn't have a high sack number
- 5:36Speaker 1: this year, obviously about twenty seven tacks on the year,
- 5:39Speaker 1: but Rasheim Green to me, took probably the biggest step
- 5:42Speaker 1: of any of those rookies from last season into his
- 5:45Speaker 1: second year. Yeah, I totally agree with you. Another top
- 5:48Speaker 1: performer in Week twelve when the Hawks took on Philly
- 5:51Speaker 1: in Philadelphia, kJ Wright, another mister consistent, had twelve tackles.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Bobby Wagner has six, and Michael Kendricks probably won't have
- 5:59Speaker 1: this will not he won't have had eleven tackles. So
- 6:02Speaker 1: we'll miss Kendricks there. We'll still have Bobby, We'll still
- 6:05Speaker 1: have kJ. So now, mister young Cody Barton's gonna have
- 6:08Speaker 1: to step in and make some play. Yeah. And the
- 6:09Speaker 1: good thing for Cody's he has seen a lot of
- 6:11Speaker 1: football now this year. He started early season, he started
- 6:14Speaker 1: getting a couple of reps against Atlanta, then he played
- 6:17Speaker 1: against the Rams, and he played last week, and he
- 6:19Speaker 1: played a lot of Carolina. So he's gotten a lot
- 6:21Speaker 1: of game reps against a lot of different teams, and
- 6:23Speaker 1: I think this matchup doesn't does two to him pretty
- 6:25Speaker 1: well because he's really good and pass coverage right, and
- 6:29Speaker 1: they're gonna try to do a lot of underneath stuff,
- 6:30Speaker 1: a lot of in between the numbers. So I think
- 6:33Speaker 1: Cody Barton's gonna have a big day and we're gonna
- 6:35Speaker 1: need him too, because Kendricks was incredibly active with the
- 6:37Speaker 1: leven tackles, so that's gonna be Cody Barton stepping into
- 6:40Speaker 1: that role. So we're definitely gonna need to see something
- 6:41Speaker 1: from him. Cody bart He's gotten some reps, but most importantly,
- 6:44Speaker 1: he's healthy. He's gotten rest, but he hasn't gotten hundreds
- 6:48Speaker 1: of plays. You know, he's gotten experience to where he
- 6:50Speaker 1: should feel comfortable on the film. He's young and he's healthy.
- 6:53Speaker 1: We're gonna rely on Cody Barton make some plays. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about the second Dary. The last time
- 6:57Speaker 1: the Hawks played the Philadelphia Eagles, Tray Hours had ten tackles,
- 7:01Speaker 1: three passes defended, one interception, Chakill Griffin four tackles, one
- 7:06Speaker 1: pass defended. Bradley McDougall's six tackles, one pass defended, one interception,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and Quandre Diggs one big hit. Hope this guy is
- 7:14Speaker 1: available to play boy. I do too, man, because when
- 7:16Speaker 1: Diggs was back there, those the Seahass defense had the
- 7:19Speaker 1: best stretch of games when Diggs was on the field.
- 7:21Speaker 1: It was the Niners game, it was that Eagles game,
- 7:24Speaker 1: it was that Viking same. When all those guys are
- 7:26Speaker 1: in the secondary, they're together. They were jelling him. I mean,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Diggs is gonna come down and hit you right. He
- 7:31Speaker 1: takes great angles. He's a great football player. Trey Flowers
- 7:35Speaker 1: had the best game of his season, and he had
- 7:36Speaker 1: a really good year this year, so he did well
- 7:38Speaker 1: against the Eagles. The first time Shaquille Griffin his back,
- 7:40Speaker 1: he had one game under his belt, which is gonna
- 7:42Speaker 1: be great to kind of get his legs back under
- 7:43Speaker 1: him because he's come back from hamstring and Bradley McDougall missed.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Are consistent. So if we can get all those guys
- 7:49Speaker 1: back together, that is when this defense is at full strength,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and that's when they're at their best. They're at their best,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and they probably were at their best in Philadelphia. The
- 7:58Speaker 1: last time they play offense didn't really put up that
- 8:00Speaker 1: many points. They relied on the defense to get it done.
- 8:02Speaker 1: You know what the conditions were like. It was windy
- 8:05Speaker 1: so far as supposed to be clear, but you know
- 8:07Speaker 1: how the weather goes. It could turn any seconds, so
- 8:09Speaker 1: they're they're projecting for good weather. But end of the day,
- 8:13Speaker 1: this defense has been there, they've done that, They're getting healthy,
- 8:16Speaker 1: so expect big games out of those guys there. Offensively,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Seahawks struggled at times, but dominated on the ground.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Rashard Penny, who will not have had his best game
- 8:25Speaker 1: of his career with one hundred and twenty nine yards
- 8:27Speaker 1: on fourteen carries and a touchdown. Chris Carson, who were
- 8:30Speaker 1: not gonna have, had twenty six yards on eight carries,
- 8:33Speaker 1: tolling one seventy four on twenty six carries, one touchdowns
- 8:37Speaker 1: on a windy day. Russell Wilson was thirteen for twenty
- 8:40Speaker 1: five two hundred and a touchdown, So not bad numbers. No,
- 8:45Speaker 1: just weren't able to get in the end zone and
- 8:47Speaker 1: the amount of times that this offense would have liked to. Therefore,
- 8:51Speaker 1: they leaned on their defense a bit. Yeah, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 1: like you said, I think people really underestimated myself personally.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'll start with myself underestimated how bad those can editions
- 9:00Speaker 1: were because I remember there's a play Russell hit Malik
- 9:03Speaker 1: Turner on the little Fleet Flicker play for a touchdown.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And there's another play with Russell's scrambling to his right
- 9:08Speaker 1: at Hollister in the eye and just and that's Russell Wilson.
- 9:11Speaker 1: That's an MVP caliber player and he kind of sailed
- 9:13Speaker 1: it over because the wind was such a factor. So,
- 9:16Speaker 1: which goes back to whether the wins factor or not,
- 9:18Speaker 1: conditions or not, We're gonna have to be able to
- 9:19Speaker 1: run the ball still, Yep, it doesn't matter rainders shine,
- 9:22Speaker 1: the Hawks will run the football. Now we're gonna move
- 9:24Speaker 1: over to our key match matchups we talked about a
- 9:26Speaker 1: little bit already. Carson Wentz Wentz verse the Seattle Seahawks
- 9:30Speaker 1: front seven. Now, Wentz is the first player in history
- 9:34Speaker 1: to throw for four thousand yards in a season without
- 9:37Speaker 1: a five hundred yard receiver. According to ESPN, that's amazing
- 9:41Speaker 1: to me. You know what that tells me? Everybody's eating? Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: who wants to eat? I mean that is there's a
- 9:46Speaker 1: reason that's not happened ever. In the end. To go
- 9:49Speaker 1: for four thousand yards without one five hundred receiver, that
- 9:51Speaker 1: means it's spread across the entire team. Whoever's in there,
- 9:55Speaker 1: he's getting it done. He also said a franchise record
- 9:57Speaker 1: for single season completions at three eighty eight and became
- 10:00Speaker 1: the first quarterback in team history to each four thousand yards.
- 10:03Speaker 1: The Eagles have been playing for a long time about Yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 1: Donovan mcnanovan. They cunning him. They've had some dudes and
- 10:10Speaker 1: had some guys. Hey, Nick Foles, he got him a ring.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He got him a ring. So they've got some dude.
- 10:15Speaker 1: So that just kind of speaks to Carson Wentz and
- 10:17Speaker 1: that he is going to be the key, the number
- 10:19Speaker 1: one key matchup for this game on Sundays, it's Carson Wentz. Yep. Overall,
- 10:23Speaker 1: Carson Witch is slightly level for four thousand yards, twenty
- 10:25Speaker 1: seven touchdowns, seven interceptions. The first game against Seattle, he
- 10:29Speaker 1: was thirty three or forty five two hundred fifty six yards,
- 10:31Speaker 1: one touchdown, two interceptions. We need a couple of those
- 10:34Speaker 1: interceptions this week as well. Yeah, we need to be
- 10:37Speaker 1: ball hawks. We need to be ballhawks again. It's been
- 10:38Speaker 1: a couple of weeks since we've had that barrage of turnovers.
- 10:42Speaker 1: The Seahawks are still i want to say, third in
- 10:44Speaker 1: the league with about plus thirteen or plus twelve and
- 10:46Speaker 1: then turn turnover differential, So we're gonna need to seek
- 10:49Speaker 1: some of that come back up. The next matchup we're
- 10:51Speaker 1: gonna focus on is the our rbs, the running backs,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Travis Homer, Marshawn Lynch Verse, the Eagles front seven. I'm
- 10:57Speaker 1: a turban in there too, because you never know what
- 10:59Speaker 1: they're gonna do. Travis Homer last week ten carres for
- 11:02Speaker 1: sixty two yards, five receptions for thirty yards. Wasn't his
- 11:06Speaker 1: debut per se, but his debut as a starter, and
- 11:09Speaker 1: he didn't disappoint. The guy played well. He looked explosive.
- 11:13Speaker 1: He wasn't shining away from contact. He was good in
- 11:15Speaker 1: the past game. He was getting the run game when
- 11:18Speaker 1: the game was on the line, he was the running
- 11:20Speaker 1: back he was in the game that that game potentially
- 11:22Speaker 1: game winning drive. He was a guy that Pete Carron
- 11:24Speaker 1: Shotty trusted. Of course, he's proven it all season long.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You know, it's probably tough for a rookie in your
- 11:30Speaker 1: first year to be behind Chris Carson he's a boss
- 11:33Speaker 1: who you know, Rashad Penny who was the first round pick,
- 11:35Speaker 1: c J. Prosie. He's done in at times in this league.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So it's hard and for him to kind of keep
- 11:39Speaker 1: his head on straight and just focused, staying in the playbook,
- 11:42Speaker 1: work with running backs coach Chad Morton and kind of
- 11:45Speaker 1: just keep his head on Its great. And he saw
- 11:46Speaker 1: on against forty nine ers that is arguably the best
- 11:50Speaker 1: defense in football, and he was still he did just enough.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And the way he runs, man, he doesn't care about
- 11:55Speaker 1: his body, no, sir. He was just whether he's somersault
- 11:57Speaker 1: and doing flips, he's coming down him and he's looking
- 12:00Speaker 1: for contact. You know, when I was twenty two, I
- 12:02Speaker 1: didn't care too much about my body. Nowadays, I gotta
- 12:05Speaker 1: get up and stretch. Next running back we're gonna talk about,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know, it is the Beasts. Marshawn Lynch twelfth carries
- 12:12Speaker 1: thirty four yards and one big touchdown. The thing that
- 12:16Speaker 1: impressed me most about that touchdown when you look at
- 12:18Speaker 1: in slow motion, he jumps over the line, he thinks
- 12:22Speaker 1: about stretching it out. Now he brings it back in
- 12:24Speaker 1: because he knows he's good. It just looked so natural.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It didn't seem like a guy who wasn't explosive, who
- 12:30Speaker 1: was sitting on the bench or sitting at home on
- 12:32Speaker 1: the couch for two weeks. He looked like a guy
- 12:33Speaker 1: who was hey, I'm ready to go. And then you
- 12:35Speaker 1: hear him talk. He said, second half, I started getting
- 12:38Speaker 1: my legs, I started feeling it. So I would expect
- 12:40Speaker 1: a little more from Mars Shawn Lynch this game, knowing
- 12:43Speaker 1: that he's got had a couple of weeks of practice
- 12:45Speaker 1: and now he's been banged up a little bit. He's
- 12:47Speaker 1: felt the game, So step it up just a little bit. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and you know the numbers. I think we mentioned this
- 12:52Speaker 1: on the last podcast. Twelve carries thirty four yards, knocking
- 12:55Speaker 1: him bow you away, right, But that didn't tell a
- 12:57Speaker 1: story of what we saw from him beyond the emotional
- 13:00Speaker 1: lift he gave us. There's one His long yard run
- 13:03Speaker 1: of the game was fifteen yards. But you saw that
- 13:05Speaker 1: explosiveness and those cuts and the marsh on that we're
- 13:08Speaker 1: used to seeing. So seeing that's great, and man, I'm
- 13:12Speaker 1: not gonna lie too. It was just nostalgic. See twenty
- 13:14Speaker 1: four in the backfield and Russell turned to hand the
- 13:16Speaker 1: Lynch and hear from Rabel. I mean it's it's a
- 13:19Speaker 1: big lift that he gave us. It was fun to see.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And the thing about it for me it's supposed encouraging
- 13:22Speaker 1: is like we mentioned here, stuff here, stuff less than
- 13:24Speaker 1: the tank. Yep, he can still go. So I think
- 13:26Speaker 1: he's gonna be a bigger part of the game plan
- 13:28Speaker 1: this week, and the combination of those two is gonna
- 13:32Speaker 1: be crucial for this team, especially because they're gonna have
- 13:34Speaker 1: their work cut out for him yep, and have their
- 13:36Speaker 1: work cut out for him, especially because Rashad Penny, when
- 13:39Speaker 1: crazy the first matchup, had probably his best game. But
- 13:42Speaker 1: he's not gonna be available, So you gotta role with
- 13:45Speaker 1: Travis Homer, Marshawn Lynch and Turban. As long as that
- 13:49Speaker 1: old line is semi healthy, I don't. I can't say
- 13:52Speaker 1: healthy because it's it's the playoffs. Everyone's banged up, everyone
- 13:55Speaker 1: was dealing with something. As long as they can can
- 13:57Speaker 1: get a little push, I think this running corps will
- 14:00Speaker 1: be okay. The next matchup, the Eagles Receiver Corps verse
- 14:04Speaker 1: the Seahouse Secondary Eagles Receiver. Eagles receiving Corps is banged up.
- 14:08Speaker 1: They're missing three starting receivers DeShawn Jackson's album on, Sean
- 14:11Speaker 1: Jeffrey's album, Nelson Agloor's out. Where do you go from here?
- 14:15Speaker 1: You got a bunch of names in this box score
- 14:17Speaker 1: that I don't I'm not really familiar with. As Yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm not gonna let you get Boston Scott Dallas, Go Dirt,
- 14:23Speaker 1: Josh Perkins, Deontay Burnette, Greg Ward Junior, Robert Davis, Miles Sanders.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Those are all the guys catching passes from Carson Wentz
- 14:31Speaker 1: last week in their Week seventeen victory, a game they
- 14:33Speaker 1: needed to win to win the division. So they got
- 14:36Speaker 1: guys that they have had a call from the practice squad.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They got a bunch of guys that the NFL US
- 14:41Speaker 1: included aren't super familiar with. That being said, the Seahawks secondary,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I think they need to be aggressive this take advantage
- 14:47Speaker 1: of this. They don't have their starters in there. If
- 14:50Speaker 1: I see these receivers go off, I'm gonna be very disappointed.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Trey Flowers is having a good year. Man to Kill
- 14:55Speaker 1: Griffin's having a good year, Quandary is having a good year.
- 14:58Speaker 1: McDougall's having a good year. The secondary was the question
- 15:01Speaker 1: mark going into the season. But now they've gained a
- 15:04Speaker 1: lot of trust. They've show them that they can make plays.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And you have to take advantage of this roster, of
- 15:10Speaker 1: this receiving corps right here. You have to take advantage
- 15:12Speaker 1: of it. And now we don't know if zach Ertz
- 15:14Speaker 1: is gonna play or not, right, and is zach Ertz
- 15:16Speaker 1: is their leading receiver. Zach Ertz is kind of they
- 15:18Speaker 1: do everything guy for him. And if he plays, if
- 15:21Speaker 1: he if he puts something pads and suits up this weekend,
- 15:24Speaker 1: he is a bad man. A man's got broken ribs,
- 15:27Speaker 1: he's got a bad back, and yeah, so if he
- 15:30Speaker 1: can get out there for them, that'll be an incredible
- 15:33Speaker 1: effort on his behalf. If he doesn't, that's another advantage
- 15:36Speaker 1: of Seahawks secondary and they're out to come with it. Yep.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Never never wish bad on the man. But if he's
- 15:40Speaker 1: not out there, I'm not I'm not too sad. Next
- 15:43Speaker 1: matchup Eagles old line verse the Seattle Seahouse defensive line.
- 15:47Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Eagles starting guard Brandon Brooks is out for
- 15:50Speaker 1: the season, suffering the shoulder injury during Sunday's win over
- 15:54Speaker 1: the Giants. Now their tackle Lane Johnson All Pro tackle
- 15:57Speaker 1: is out what an ankle was out with ankle injury
- 16:00Speaker 1: against the Giants on Sunday. That will suffer a Week
- 16:02Speaker 1: fourteen to win over the Giants um decimated. Yeah, that's
- 16:06Speaker 1: beyond the receiving corps. One thing. Now, up front, they
- 16:10Speaker 1: got young guys dad the first time we play them,
- 16:12Speaker 1: Dillard from Washington State got to start and then then
- 16:16Speaker 1: they replace him with I'm not even gonna mess around
- 16:18Speaker 1: with his name making number seventy five there. He's been
- 16:21Speaker 1: playing right tackle for him. So honestly, the defensive line,
- 16:24Speaker 1: they need to take a page out of what they
- 16:25Speaker 1: did the first time and they need to get after
- 16:27Speaker 1: it right. That's a great recipe. They're banged up up front,
- 16:30Speaker 1: they're banged up in the secondary. Okay, if our defensive
- 16:33Speaker 1: line can get pressure with how well our secondary is playing,
- 16:35Speaker 1: especially if you get Quandary Digs back, that seems like
- 16:38Speaker 1: a recipe for success for the Seahawks. This may be
- 16:40Speaker 1: the only team that's more banged up than the Seattle Seahawks. Yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and it's hard to do because the Seahawks, their their
- 16:47Speaker 1: injury report list is is pages long, campin on one page,
- 16:50Speaker 1: so it'll be it's an interesting comparison, but yeah, that's
- 16:52Speaker 1: gonna be huge. All right, let's move along to the
- 16:54Speaker 1: playoff picture on the NFC sign. Of course, we got
- 16:58Speaker 1: the Seahawks versus the Eagle. We're gonna We're gonna go
- 17:01Speaker 1: ahead and say the Eagles win this game and move on.
- 17:04Speaker 1: You mean you mean the Seahawks. What the Seahawks. I'm
- 17:12Speaker 1: looking at a chart, this green on green. Yeah, I'm sorry, guys,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I'm sorry, guys. The Hawks move on to play the Niners.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Underneath them, we got the Vikings versus the Saints. Who
- 17:24Speaker 1: you got, That's what I mean. The Vikings are a
- 17:26Speaker 1: good football team. The Seahawks played them. Kirk Cousins Loki's
- 17:29Speaker 1: having another really good year. I just my personal opinion.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I don't see how they go into New Orleans another
- 17:37Speaker 1: and probably the other than Kansas City, maybe the toughest
- 17:41Speaker 1: environment outside century into playing in New Orleans with Drew Brees,
- 17:44Speaker 1: when Thomas the way Kamar, the way they've played. We
- 17:47Speaker 1: saw the murder in the year. I don't see the
- 17:49Speaker 1: Vikings winning that game. Um, I have the Saints and
- 17:53Speaker 1: that match up and what happens for those you don't
- 17:55Speaker 1: know playoffs, Okay, you have the wild card round. The
- 17:59Speaker 1: winner of those wild card games, the lowest remaining seed
- 18:02Speaker 1: will play the Niners because they're the top seed, right,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and then the other team will obviously play the Packers
- 18:07Speaker 1: at Lambeau. So if everything kind of maps out the
- 18:10Speaker 1: way I think it's going to, I believe the Vikings
- 18:13Speaker 1: are gonna lose to the Saints, and the Saints will
- 18:15Speaker 1: head to Green Bay and the Seahawks, if they take
- 18:17Speaker 1: care of business, will be going back to play the
- 18:21Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers something. They've had a couple
- 18:24Speaker 1: of good games this year, had a couple of classics,
- 18:26Speaker 1: a couple of classics. I'm gonna say, the reason why
- 18:29Speaker 1: the Vikings don't beat the Saints one name, Okay, Kirk Cousins.
- 18:35Speaker 1: He doesn't beat teams that have winning records. That's just
- 18:38Speaker 1: not what he does. Is nine his DNA. He doesn't
- 18:40Speaker 1: win on primetime, doesn't win on Monday night, doesn't win
- 18:42Speaker 1: on Sunday Night. That's is not what he does. Probably
- 18:45Speaker 1: a great guy, but Kirk Cousins is just not gonna
- 18:47Speaker 1: get it done for those boys. Yeah, and then obviously,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I think every all the twelves out there. Would love
- 18:53Speaker 1: to see the Seahawks and Niners go at it. Rubbert
- 18:55Speaker 1: match one more time. On the other side, AFC, you
- 18:59Speaker 1: got the Bills taken on the Texans and then you
- 19:02Speaker 1: got the Titans in the Patriots. What do you think
- 19:04Speaker 1: about that? Bump Buffalo? Let's go Buffalo. I'm a Josh
- 19:08Speaker 1: Allen fan. Low key. Everyone hates on him. He's not
- 19:11Speaker 1: a very accurate quarterback, but I appreciate his athleticism. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: just like seeing him play. He's a fun player to watch,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and I love Buffalo's defense. I got Buffalo. Who you got,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I'm going with you. I got Buffalo too. I mean,
- 19:22Speaker 1: first of all, Frank Gore, Yeah, I mean the fact
- 19:25Speaker 1: that he is still playing Frank Gore. I mean I
- 19:28Speaker 1: was a kid watching him play at Miami and then
- 19:30Speaker 1: he's he was with the Niners during during the when
- 19:34Speaker 1: this rivalry was at a peak and he was a boss.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Then that was seven seven years ago, you know what
- 19:38Speaker 1: I mean. The fact that he's still going and playing
- 19:40Speaker 1: is huge. The Texans, they get to the playoffs every year.
- 19:44Speaker 1: They're solid buns. JJ Watt. I saw a report is
- 19:46Speaker 1: probably gonna come back and you're gonna play the difference.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So this is why it's kind of hard for me,
- 19:52Speaker 1: because the Texans have been in this early Saturday win
- 19:54Speaker 1: now for the last decade and they've lost every single time.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But they got Shaun Watson. They do have the Shaun
- 20:01Speaker 1: Watson and Hopkins is the is the one that kind
- 20:04Speaker 1: of gives me pause. But I still think the Bills
- 20:07Speaker 1: are gonna go out and get a road victory. And
- 20:10Speaker 1: then the Pats, who have not played on wild Card
- 20:12Speaker 1: weekend for a decade, they don't play the first week.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I mean, Tom Brady had plans. It was going to
- 20:17Speaker 1: Cobbo or something like that. Man and the Titans, which
- 20:20Speaker 1: is crazy story too because obviously I was Marcus Mariota's
- 20:23Speaker 1: team and the Townehill comes in bawling, falling out. But
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm going for the upset. Oh oh, okay, I'm going
- 20:32Speaker 1: with the Titans. Man. Wow, I think this is the
- 20:35Speaker 1: game that Tom Brady decides I'm done. Wow, I'm not
- 20:39Speaker 1: gonna do this. That is a hot I'm going with
- 20:43Speaker 1: the Titans. Okay. Obviously the Pats are the favorite, so
- 20:48Speaker 1: I'm going with the Titans. And if the Titans win,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna double down and say Tom Brady is done
- 20:54Speaker 1: playing for the Pats. I don't think he'll play for
- 20:56Speaker 1: anybody else. Maybe he won't. He loses this game, I
- 20:59Speaker 1: think he's done. Wow. Um, that's a bold that's a
- 21:03Speaker 1: bold take that we will definitely revisit on Monday. But
- 21:07Speaker 1: I mean, I can't. Tom's still the goat. Uh. I
- 21:11Speaker 1: don't see anyway that the Titans go into Fox Row
- 21:13Speaker 1: and get it done. But you know what Mammy just did.
- 21:17Speaker 1: That's true, that's true. But this is a different season.
- 21:20Speaker 1: As the start of this podcast about this season number two,
- 21:23Speaker 1: that doesn't matter anymore. But you know what, that's why
- 21:25Speaker 1: they play the game. That's why they play the games,
- 21:28Speaker 1: all right, Bump, How do the Seahawks assure that they're
- 21:30Speaker 1: gonna be playing on divisional weekend? What do they gotta do?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Get the stuff? This is how they do it. They
- 21:34Speaker 1: gotta start fast, don't get down early. Set the tone
- 21:38Speaker 1: on the Eagles. The Hospital can't come from behind. We
- 21:42Speaker 1: know that they've proven it all yearlong. Russell Wilson has
- 21:44Speaker 1: a million fourth quarter in overtime comebacks. They've been there,
- 21:47Speaker 1: they've done that. But with a team that has all
- 21:50Speaker 1: these guys out, you're coming off an emotional loss. The
- 21:54Speaker 1: Hawks are getting healthy, they're getting a couple guys back.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Establish your dominance and let the rest of the end
- 21:59Speaker 1: of fell know that you are for real. And how
- 22:02Speaker 1: do you do that? You come out and smack on
- 22:04Speaker 1: the mouth the first series. Yeah, No, it would be
- 22:06Speaker 1: great to see a three and out Defensively, it'd be
- 22:09Speaker 1: great to see the offense marched down and score and
- 22:12Speaker 1: let people know they're not messing around. That's that's that's
- 22:14Speaker 1: gonna be huge. Obviously, like you mentioned, if that doesn't happen,
- 22:17Speaker 1: that's not the end all be all, but it'd be
- 22:18Speaker 1: great to see and I think that's huge. Just kind
- 22:20Speaker 1: of set the tone for the rest of this month. Yea,
- 22:22Speaker 1: set the tone. Hey, get the Eagles fans booing, you
- 22:24Speaker 1: know they'll boom. Oh, you get them bulling early? What
- 22:27Speaker 1: else they gotta do? They got a pressure Carson Wentz
- 22:29Speaker 1: playing two backups on the offensive line. They were playing
- 22:32Speaker 1: two backups on that old line. You gotta take advantage
- 22:35Speaker 1: of every situation that you have. I'm not saying that
- 22:37Speaker 1: backups are bad, I'm not saying that they're horrible, but
- 22:40Speaker 1: they're backups for a reason. All right, If that defensive
- 22:43Speaker 1: line is healthy the way that we're expecting it to be.
- 22:45Speaker 1: They gotta take advantage of that matchup. Yeah, no, I
- 22:48Speaker 1: think that's huge. That's obviously one of the key matchups.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Clowney hopefully he kind of recovers from his the core
- 22:55Speaker 1: injury after playing last week. But if you have him, look,
- 22:58Speaker 1: raziians to have a big day. Poona Ford j Read
- 23:00Speaker 1: those guys. They have to be active. They have to
- 23:03Speaker 1: be active. Also, what they have to do, you have
- 23:05Speaker 1: to run the football. Get Travis Homer and Marshawn Lynch
- 23:08Speaker 1: going early. I would like to see mars Shawn get
- 23:11Speaker 1: the very first carry of the game. I don't think
- 23:13Speaker 1: he will. I think Travis Homer has put in his work,
- 23:16Speaker 1: his time to deserve that first carry. But it'd be
- 23:19Speaker 1: nice to see mars Shawn get the first carry. Whoever
- 23:21Speaker 1: gets it, I don't care if it's a one yard
- 23:23Speaker 1: game or a five yard game. Lower the shoulder and
- 23:26Speaker 1: remind these guys that the Seahawks run the football and
- 23:29Speaker 1: they do it well. I loved it. I would love
- 23:31Speaker 1: that first play whoever gets it to be a run.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I think it's Ray Roberts socks about this all the time.
- 23:36Speaker 1: How he's always like he in big games like that.
- 23:39Speaker 1: He wants to come he's so jacked up. He wants
- 23:41Speaker 1: to come forward you and you know what I'm saying.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He wants to fire off the ball. He doesn't want
- 23:44Speaker 1: to start pass that. And so I would love to
- 23:45Speaker 1: see a big physical run on first down, kind of
- 23:48Speaker 1: get the chains going again, setting the tone for what
- 23:50Speaker 1: we're going to see. Also, they got to tackle and
- 23:52Speaker 1: eliminate the long drives on defense. They must tackle. I
- 23:55Speaker 1: think if the Hawks tackle a little better last week
- 23:57Speaker 1: against the Niners, the game might be different, but who knows.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And then eliminate the long drives on defense. Your guys
- 24:04Speaker 1: get tired with those long drives. You need a couple
- 24:06Speaker 1: three and outs just to rest those legs and keep
- 24:09Speaker 1: those guys motivated. Yeah. No, definitely. The Niners had I
- 24:12Speaker 1: think for their five scoring drives for over eight plays,
- 24:15Speaker 1: and that's too long. Yeah, you've got to find a
- 24:16Speaker 1: way to get off the field last, but not least,
- 24:18Speaker 1: continue to be road warriors the franchise. It's seven to
- 24:22Speaker 1: one this year. That's the franchise best on a regular season.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Keep doing what you're doing. Struggle at home. Okay, that's
- 24:28Speaker 1: over with. But let's focus on the good. The good
- 24:30Speaker 1: is or seven and one at home and this is
- 24:32Speaker 1: the postseason, new season goal one and oh go down
- 24:36Speaker 1: to Philly, handle your business, come back home victorious and
- 24:40Speaker 1: hopefully playing the Niners and Callie the following week. I
- 24:44Speaker 1: really hope we're having a nice, fun Pete Carroll Show
- 24:47Speaker 1: Monday morning with Danny, Gallant and Bump talking about how
- 24:50Speaker 1: they gotta get ready for an epic showdown against the
- 24:53Speaker 1: forty nine ers. Here we go, folks, wild Card playoffs.
- 24:56Speaker 1: That's a Hawk Talk preview. The Seahawks are going to Philly.
- 25:00Speaker 1: It's been real. I'm Michael baumpas your host along with
- 25:03Speaker 1: Nasa Choby. I'm a great one.
