Five Kansas towns are rolling out plans to make school commutes safer for kids—whether they’re walking, biking, or rolling—with funding support from the state to build lasting habits. Starting this August, communities like Coffeyville, Garden City, Liberal, and Newton will map out improvements based on local needs and input. Meanwhile, Lawrence’s Cordley Elementary is launching a “bike bus” program, led by adults to safely escort students on group bike rides.
