- 0:51Speaker 1: to fly home yesterday. Amazon wanted me to just literally
- 0:54Speaker 1: host a ten minute introduction to Faceoff, which you talked
- 0:58Speaker 1: about previously, Season two coming, so I sorry, they go.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We have an option.
- 1:01Speaker 1: You can do it in Halifax, autow Art, Toronto. Of
- 1:05Speaker 1: course the other option would be zero because they're not
- 1:07Speaker 1: paying me. And I was like, well Halifax, not sure,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but the Newark to Halifax, so that's gonna go otto.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I'm going in a couple of weeks. Anyways, Toronto always good.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Could go see my parents, go see some bodies after
- 1:15Speaker 1: it great. So I fly home to Toronto yesterday. They
- 1:19Speaker 1: got a car service for me, lovely little chauffeur taping
- 1:21Speaker 1: to my parents' house.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Had lunch. I said to my dad, just dropping off
- 1:24Speaker 2: the subway, I'll head downtown.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And as I'm walking out, I was you know, I'm
- 1:28Speaker 1: always double checking para it right, Okay, yeah, I got
- 1:30Speaker 1: my phone, yep, okay, I got my keys.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Where's my passport? Double check in the bag. No passport.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, hope it's my parents, says, but I
- 1:39Speaker 1: already know it isn't like I walked in exhausted. I
- 1:42Speaker 1: remember hugging my dad and going repsters and going to bed.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm like, that passport's not on that bed. I call
- 1:46Speaker 1: him just an answer right away. I'm like, I'll hop
- 1:47Speaker 1: in a cap go back to my parents' place twenty
- 1:49Speaker 1: mites away, walking.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, I don't see it anywhere.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I'm like, oh no, yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So now don't do the back trick. Let me call
- 1:57Speaker 1: the show fur. The guy dropped me off, I got
- 1:58Speaker 1: the number.
- 1:59Speaker 2: No nothing here.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I'm like all right.
- 2:01Speaker 1: My dad looks up and my dad cool as a cucumber.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Except right away Pierce International called not his passport, call
- 2:09Speaker 1: the Lost and Found'm like, okay, call Aston Found. You're
- 2:11Speaker 1: on whole for ten minutes, goes busy. My mom also
- 2:13Speaker 1: springs to action.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Just go to the airport.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Just just go right there in person, hopefully it's there.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Like yeah, on the drive there, I'm like thirty percent
- 2:20Speaker 1: chance it's there. My dad again, Resource will already on
- 2:22Speaker 1: the phone be like all right, here's how you get
- 2:23Speaker 1: a new passport. You have to go to Victoria Street,
- 2:26Speaker 1: downtown eight am, twenty four hours expedited.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Amazon will have to push push the flight back a day.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I see, if there's only one big issue, ISAC Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 1: goes pasport one hundred fifty bucks you'll get in twenty
- 2:36Speaker 1: four hours.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I go my green card was in there too.
- 2:38Speaker 3: He's like oh.
- 2:40Speaker 1: He's like oo, He's like no green card. Now he goes,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you're not. No, he goes, you can, you can, you
- 2:45Speaker 1: can get on the plane to the New Jersey. You're
- 2:47Speaker 1: not gonna get in the No.
- 2:48Speaker 3: And Trump's not letting you in.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Considering heightened sensitivities in our two countries right now. He's like, ooh,
- 2:56Speaker 1: it could be strained in Canada. I go to the
- 2:58Speaker 1: Lost and Found, take a deep breasts, say a prayer.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Of the guys like, no, we wouldn't.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Have it here.
- 3:02Speaker 1: You have to go like whatever, there's a special area.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I go up there and walk in and I start
- 3:07Speaker 1: describing it. It's in a black case, little airplane. Guys like,
- 3:09Speaker 1: can asist it?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I go, oh my god, oh my god. I almost
- 3:15Speaker 2: fell over.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I pulled a fifty dollars bill. I go, hey, you
- 3:17Speaker 1: gotta have this. You no, no, no, I can't.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I can't.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No, you take this.
- 3:20Speaker 1: He goes, it's illegal. You can't accept these things as
- 3:22Speaker 1: a you know, what's your part of your job?
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I'm like, do you like coffee?
- 3:25Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, Tim Horton's double double coming up because
- 3:27Speaker 1: I like it black. I go, no propt, because if
- 3:29Speaker 1: there was a coffee here.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I'd drink. I got some donuts.
- 3:32Speaker 1: How about some donuts because I do like a chocolate donut.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'll be right back.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I go get a chocolate glaze, chocolate dip, large black coffee.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Ja do you think of the things you can lose
- 3:42Speaker 1: in life. I think number one is the phone, but
- 3:44Speaker 1: a close number two would be passport at Green Card.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I mean phone nowadays at the iCloud. I mean, you're
- 3:50Speaker 3: kind of good, but but to me, it's passport. And
- 3:53Speaker 3: then wallet like wallet, just the fact that you have
- 3:56Speaker 3: to call the credit card companies, cancel all your cards,
- 4:00Speaker 3: get new cards. Then from there you have to also radio.
- 4:04Speaker 3: But passport, I mean that's you're screwed, Like you're screwed,
- 4:09Speaker 3: like you're really screwed. You are you are the poster
- 4:12Speaker 3: child for for the government wanting us all to be
- 4:15Speaker 3: on digital passport.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And again my dad deductive reasoning.
- 4:19Speaker 1: He was a go through because you couldn't have gotten
- 4:21Speaker 1: out of the airport without your passport, So it's not
- 4:23Speaker 1: on the plane.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You would have been. Tom Hanks in the terminal.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Just said, this worst movie the last thirty years.
- 4:33Speaker 2: That's what I've been really liiving KOs And I'm not
- 4:36Speaker 2: going to blame them.
- 4:36Speaker 1: But you know, when you go to the kiosk, because
- 4:38Speaker 1: because I figured I go, it's at the kiosk, because
- 4:40Speaker 1: you go to the kiosk and it goes No, I
- 4:41Speaker 1: don't have farms, No, I didn't just visit a farm.
- 4:44Speaker 2: No, to all.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Then they just print out the paper and you just
- 4:46Speaker 1: hand the paper the guy and walk out.
- 4:48Speaker 2: They should you should hand the paper and the passport
- 4:50Speaker 2: just to verify. But they're like, had the paper.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I'm like, I know it's at the kiosk, but I'm like,
- 4:54Speaker 1: that is that is relying on the trust of strangers.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Someone just saw that unbelievable. Have you ever lost a
- 5:00Speaker 1: passport or a green card or known any teammate. There
- 5:03Speaker 1: must have been a situation, somebody's alving somewhere. Oh shit,
- 5:05Speaker 1: my passport expard.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Nothing like that. Traveling secretary had to flag it.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I just had. I just had the like, I don't
- 5:13Speaker 3: know what happened to my passport, like three four years ago,
- 5:16Speaker 3: but it was either some water fell on it or
- 5:20Speaker 3: and it got like kind of muddy, screwed up a
- 5:23Speaker 3: little crinkly. Yeah, And I was like, this is weird.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But I just kept traveling. I was I was so busy,
- 5:28Speaker 3: and I was also playing a little bit at that time,
- 5:31Speaker 3: so I didn't think much of it. And I get
- 5:35Speaker 3: to the airport once and the the you know, you
- 5:37Speaker 3: get the right TSA or not, sorry, the right customs
- 5:40Speaker 3: agent and he's like what is this. I'm like, what
- 5:44Speaker 3: do you mean? What is this? And he goes, uh,
- 5:50Speaker 3: this is not this doesn't work like yeah, like like
- 5:54Speaker 3: I can't let you through. And I was like no,
- 5:56Speaker 3: like what what? I'm like, you got my information everything.
- 5:58Speaker 3: He's like he's like listen all this one time. But
- 6:02Speaker 3: he's like he's like, I'm basically gonna mak it out,
- 6:04Speaker 3: like if you don't get your passport changed, like you're
- 6:07Speaker 3: not getting through. And I was like, oh my god,
- 6:09Speaker 3: like I had to go somewhere serious, and I was like,
- 6:12Speaker 3: holy crap. So I had to end up going to
- 6:14Speaker 3: the whole process to get a new passport kind of
- 6:17Speaker 3: like you did. Like I had to do it all
- 6:19Speaker 3: like within a day because I had to fly out
- 6:20Speaker 3: like the next day, so I had to go downtown
- 6:23Speaker 3: get everything done. Craziness.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You have been in that situation, you feel that stress.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Tw Ever, lost a passport, green card, phone wallet.
- 6:33Speaker 4: We moved once and the passport didn't make the move
- 6:36Speaker 4: with us. I'm not sure exactly where it moved to,
- 6:39Speaker 4: but it wasn't a big deal. I didn't have any
- 6:41Speaker 4: major travel plans at that time, probably because we were moving,
- 6:44Speaker 4: so I, you know, reported it was lost and ordered
- 6:47Speaker 4: a new end. And this was actually around the time
- 6:49Speaker 4: of COVID, so it took probably close to six months
- 6:52Speaker 4: to get a new passport around that time. And it
- 6:55Speaker 4: got to the point where I had no travel plan
- 6:57Speaker 4: and you know, months passed and there was some travel
- 6:59Speaker 4: on the horizon, and I was calling Canadian Customs saying, hey,
- 7:03Speaker 4: am I going to get this thing in time? I'm
- 7:05Speaker 4: fortunately I did, but yeah, I'm a paranoid freak when
- 7:08Speaker 4: it comes to checking for my passport or my green
- 7:10Speaker 4: card if I'm traveling.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Question for both of you. When Ad then told that story,
- 7:16Speaker 3: because it's more for you, tell as soon as you
- 7:20Speaker 3: started telling the story, in my head, I went, where's
- 7:22Speaker 3: my passport? It's like, it's like that thing, it doesn't
- 7:26Speaker 3: matter where you are. If somebody tells you a story.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Tell me check my passports over there, We're gonna put.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Honey, where's the fucking passport.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I was just traveling, so I know exactly where my
- 7:37Speaker 4: passport is, and I knew where I was pretty much
- 7:39Speaker 4: the entire time I was away.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I was.
- 7:42Speaker 2: What would a quick question?
- 7:45Speaker 4: Can I ask a really quick question about your shirt?
- 7:47Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, would you agree with JD
- 7:49Speaker 1: that the phone is not as bad because with the
- 7:50Speaker 1: iCloud you can back it up.
- 7:51Speaker 2: You can go my new phone. Yeah, yeah, retail.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Actually, if you're traveling abroad and you don't have a passport,
- 7:56Speaker 4: that's or you know some sort of id like that's.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I mean if I'm yeah, if I'm in Italy though,
- 8:02Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, folks, i ain't never coming back.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that was my thing. I'm like, I guess I'm
- 8:07Speaker 2: stranded in Canada.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Definitely, it'll be a tough, tough bounce for you.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, go ahead, tell he's your questions, Jady.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Just quick question.
- 8:14Speaker 4: It looks like you were rocking a Lulu Lemon Canadian
- 8:17Speaker 4: Olympic team apparel. Did Lulu Lemon design Canada's Olympic apparel
- 8:22Speaker 4: when you were there?
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yes, when in twenty twenty two, Lulu Lemon did design
- 8:26Speaker 3: all of the gear that we're in and you get
- 8:31Speaker 3: so much swag it is absolutely incredible, A lot that
- 8:35Speaker 3: you can never wear because you know, the moon boots
- 8:38Speaker 3: snowsuits that they made were were an interesting choice, but
- 8:41Speaker 3: all their workout gear, I mean, I it was just
- 8:45Speaker 3: it's I'm still using it's still rocking, and it's the best.
- 8:48Speaker 3: It's it was awesome. So we just got everything from them,
- 8:53Speaker 3: you know, Duffel bags. It's crazy. You're walking out of there.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You're like, how do I even like? I came here
- 8:59Speaker 3: with two Duffel bags? How do I get the rest
- 9:02Speaker 3: of them out?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Like?
- 9:04Speaker 3: How do I get these others six out?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Nothing feels as good as free. I don't care. What
- 9:08Speaker 2: is your artoaps, what do you have?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Nothing feels as good as free. All right, let's get
- 9:12Speaker 1: to the pucks. The Thriller is back, following reports he
- 9:15Speaker 1: had turned down what would have been the biggest contract
- 9:17Speaker 1: in hockey history. JD was talking with this last week.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Elliot Friedman just pouring cold water on the story to
- 9:23Speaker 1: Mesters divers damas eight years, one hundred and thirty six
- 9:27Speaker 1: million dollar contract, the biggest bag in league history, both
- 9:31Speaker 1: in terms of total dollars and average annual value.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Early Heart Trophy frontner last year.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Then he got hurt twenty five goals, fifty six points
- 9:38Speaker 1: and forty one games overall, three hundred and eighty six points,
- 9:41Speaker 1: three hundred and nineteen career games over his five seasons.
- 9:44Speaker 1: We'll get to how this impacts McDavid, Kyle Connor, et cetera.
- 9:47Speaker 1: But if I said to you JD, maybe a couple
- 9:49Speaker 1: months ago, capries is gonna get seventeen million dollars a year,
- 9:52Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty six million, what would your reaction
- 9:55Speaker 1: have been?
- 9:56Speaker 3: Well, we kind of we we said it, when we
- 9:59Speaker 3: talked about it. We're like, that's probably the number. But
- 10:01Speaker 3: it was never offered to him because our inside source
- 10:04Speaker 3: within the wild told us that that was never ever
- 10:07Speaker 3: offered at that time. But I guess it sparked something
- 10:10Speaker 3: and sparked the conversation. But this is just what we
- 10:14Speaker 3: were waiting to happen. This is now gonna be the
- 10:17Speaker 3: catalyst and now the next I mean, capriceoffs set the
- 10:20Speaker 3: market for all the guys coming up in free agency.
- 10:23Speaker 3: You know, I don't look so much at Capriso. I
- 10:26Speaker 3: think he's deserved it. I think, you know, he is
- 10:29Speaker 3: a premier player in the NHL.
- 10:31Speaker 1: So if I said you overrated, underrated, or properly raded,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you'd say Caprice Off is properly rated.
- 10:36Speaker 3: He's a properly rated. Yeah, he's I mean, listen, that guy,
- 10:40Speaker 3: that guy healthy is so incredibly dominant on the offensive,
- 10:44Speaker 3: side of the puck, and he's such a focal point
- 10:47Speaker 3: of that offense. And I mean we talk about wingers
- 10:51Speaker 3: influencing the play, you know, like Kutrov, There's not many
- 10:54Speaker 3: like that in the NHL that are as dynamic offensively
- 10:57Speaker 3: and the offense runs through him. So for that, that's amazing.
- 11:01Speaker 3: But I just more think it's exciting because I'm like,
- 11:03Speaker 3: all right, now, the market's you got Jack Icele, you
- 11:05Speaker 3: got Connor McDavid. Who who's next up to sign in
- 11:10Speaker 3: these top guys that are all coming up at the
- 11:12Speaker 3: end of this season. You know, we have an amazing
- 11:15Speaker 3: free agency class this coming year in twenty twenty six,
- 11:19Speaker 3: so we're gonna wait and see. But it's your move, Edmonton.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Your move. By the way, Edmonton picked up a goaltender
- 11:28Speaker 3: as well, Connor Ingram.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yes, not just great.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I was hoping to be Carl Harp, but as
- 11:33Speaker 1: you said, he was not gonna be signing with the CADI.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I love Connor Ingram, so just that was just a
- 11:37Speaker 3: side cabot. So before I go back to Connor McDavid,
- 11:39Speaker 3: but yes, your move Edmonton. Mick Jesus so the chosen one,
- 11:44Speaker 3: the Messiah.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Right, So Connor McDavid potential you have after this year,
- 11:49Speaker 1: Jack Icel, Kyle Connor, Ur, Timmy Panaira.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So all these guys arrow pointing up thanks to caprice Off. McDavid.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Nostra Demer's prediction was a short term deal before the
- 12:01Speaker 1: season starts.
- 12:02Speaker 2: You're still holding true that we have like a week.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I think he'll now sign a three year you know,
- 12:07Speaker 3: eighteen million dollars, twenty million dollar deals, something like that.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I think he goes that way. Maybe I could see
- 12:14Speaker 3: it now that I think it. I think it's gonna
- 12:17Speaker 3: happen sooner rather than later. I don't think I think Connor.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Everybody was playing coy and we're gonna play this season
- 12:22Speaker 3: out and all there. Everybody's waiting for caprice Off. That
- 12:25Speaker 3: was the number. That was the number we wanted to
- 12:27Speaker 3: see as NHL players to increase the cap. This should
- 12:31Speaker 3: improve the livelihoods of a couple guys that are undeserved
- 12:35Speaker 3: of getting a big deal, but will now because the
- 12:38Speaker 3: market has been set. Because I love when players get
- 12:41Speaker 3: their bag, get your paper, boom poop the.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Rise and tide lifting all boats. I hope you're wrong.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I agree with you. I think he'll get a deal,
- 12:47Speaker 2: but I hope you're wrong. Tal.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I want to see this entire season Connor McDavid not signing,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and then if he resigns, fine. I want to see
- 12:53Speaker 1: a full season of rampant, reckless speculation. Where's McDavid gonna go.
- 12:57Speaker 1: All these leaf bands be losing their minds. Connor McDavid's
- 12:59Speaker 1: go to Toronto. I want to see it all year.
- 13:02Speaker 4: If that is the case, I'm pretty sure by March
- 13:06Speaker 4: we're gonna have Connor McDavid yelling at reporters for asking
- 13:09Speaker 4: him about his contract.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yes, yes, just leave me alone. What could last? What
- 13:16Speaker 3: could last longer? You know, Connor McDavid's resolve in the
- 13:20Speaker 3: face of the media, it's just bashing him or his
- 13:23Speaker 3: resolve towards the fan base, throwing their Edmonton orders Jersey
- 13:26Speaker 3: on the ice. And because because again, the longer he waits,
- 13:30Speaker 3: the more the oilers fans will turn on him, I feel,
- 13:33Speaker 3: and the more, you know, because there'll be more questions
- 13:37Speaker 3: and then you know this, it's like no news, they're
- 13:40Speaker 3: not hearing anything. They start speculating, they start getting angry
- 13:44Speaker 3: because there's no news, and then you know, Connor's getting frustrated, like, oh,
- 13:48Speaker 3: my god, he's not coming back. He's not coming back,
- 13:50Speaker 3: and you know they're Toronto Maple Leave's friends that are
- 13:52Speaker 3: on the group chat with him or like he's coming
- 13:54Speaker 3: to Toronto, He's coming to Toronto, and then that just it
- 13:56Speaker 3: just turns into just a boiling point for all of
- 13:59Speaker 3: these fans. And I don't I don't see if they're
- 14:02Speaker 3: trying to win a Cup, it's not induce if Connor
- 14:05Speaker 3: sits out the whole year, So it not sits out
- 14:08Speaker 3: the whole year, but doesn't sign all season long. Like
- 14:10Speaker 3: it's just not good for this team, Like they need
- 14:13Speaker 3: to win now, if they need to win now, and yes,
- 14:16Speaker 3: they still have a window, but this is an important
- 14:19Speaker 3: year for them.
- 14:19Speaker 1: So speaking of important years for teams that want to
- 14:22Speaker 1: win right now. Stunning what happened to Florida Panthers. We
- 14:25Speaker 1: got word of the injury last week. You don't know
- 14:27Speaker 1: how serious it is because you're like, all right, well,
- 14:29Speaker 1: you know it's season hasn't ben begun yet, but Alexander
- 14:31Speaker 1: Barkoff likely out for the season undergoing knee Jergeela Panthers
- 14:35Speaker 1: trying to win a third straight Stanley Cup. Matthew could shock.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We know JD is out until December. Now Barkie done.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I love to say Florida's next man up. They find
- 14:45Speaker 1: different guys. They're well coached, they but I mean, dude, Barkoff,
- 14:48Speaker 1: that's a massive injury to me.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't win a Cup with a Sasha Barkoff.
- 14:53Speaker 3: So again, now they say done for the year nine months.
- 14:56Speaker 3: He's one of those freaks. And they do have a
- 14:59Speaker 3: kind of a voodoo trainer over there that's really really
- 15:03Speaker 3: incredible with like recovery and injuries. So I'm not ruling
- 15:07Speaker 3: he's coming I'm not ruling out that he's coming back,
- 15:11Speaker 3: but I do just think that this might be we
- 15:14Speaker 3: were wondering all last year. When is it gonna be
- 15:17Speaker 3: too much hockey? When is the when is finally the
- 15:21Speaker 3: camel's back go to break? You know, they've been so good,
- 15:24Speaker 3: they played so much meaningful hockey, so much hard hockey.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I know, this is unfortunate how it happens. You never
- 15:30Speaker 3: want to see it. First day of training camp for
- 15:33Speaker 3: them because they took an extra week off. First day
- 15:35Speaker 3: of training camp, you get injured in the little nothing
- 15:37Speaker 3: burger drill your best player. So I don't know. I
- 15:41Speaker 3: think the door is open in the Atlantic now, and
- 15:43Speaker 3: the door is wide wide open for somebody to come up,
- 15:47Speaker 3: and I'm off if I'm any other fan base, I'm like, wow,
- 15:52Speaker 3: the king is dead right, Long live the King.
- 15:55Speaker 2: And maybe now that door is open for the Tronowe beliefs.
- 15:57Speaker 1: They signed Golton Anthony Stolar's four year, fifteen million dollar extension.
- 16:02Speaker 1: One A cup is a backup in Florida before you
- 16:04Speaker 1: went to Toronto. Career highs last season starts, wins, shutouts.
- 16:09Speaker 1: At one point Toronto was like, well, who's the guys
- 16:10Speaker 1: at Joseph Walls and still Arts Now feels like still
- 16:13Speaker 1: Arts is officially the man.
- 16:14Speaker 2: He's the guy in Toronto.
- 16:16Speaker 3: If you can stay healthy. They have two goalies that
- 16:19Speaker 3: are a little bit injury prone, but when Stolars is on,
- 16:22Speaker 3: he's on, He's He's very good. I do like the
- 16:24Speaker 3: changes they made on the Toronto mapleafs. I know people
- 16:27Speaker 3: are like Mitch Marner's gone. I think they really shored
- 16:30Speaker 3: up the third and fourth lines and their decore I
- 16:33Speaker 3: think will be the same, so it'll be decent and
- 16:35Speaker 3: it'll be good. I think they have enough to get there.
- 16:37Speaker 3: It's going to require big Poppy Chulo awsesome Matthews to
- 16:40Speaker 3: have a career year and really carry them. But again,
- 16:44Speaker 3: of the two best arguably two way centers in the league,
- 16:48Speaker 3: Barkoff and Matthews, one's out for the year. So now
- 16:51Speaker 3: you got essentially one of the best in the division
- 16:54Speaker 3: two way centers in Austin Matthews and a matt So
- 16:58Speaker 3: this would be a no excuse kind of year. But
- 17:00Speaker 3: there's a lot of teams that are sniffing. Montreal looks
- 17:02Speaker 3: great right now in preseason. Tampa Bay looks really good.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Tampa Bay thinks five and zero preseason. I know that
- 17:09Speaker 3: doesn't mean shit, but they're gonna kinda they're gonna kind
- 17:12Speaker 3: of want to, you know, have a better year and
- 17:15Speaker 3: you know, better showing than they did, even though you
- 17:17Speaker 3: know in the playoffs last year they just fell flat.
- 17:19Speaker 3: You know, this is kind of their last chance as well.
- 17:21Speaker 3: So I don't know, it's gonna be interesting. I don't
- 17:24Speaker 3: think Toronto's like gonna waltz their way in, but I
- 17:27Speaker 3: think it's gonna be a big loss for Florida. But
- 17:29Speaker 3: you know, going back to Florida, listen, they got Anton Lundell,
- 17:33Speaker 3: they call him Minnie Barkie. They got Brad Marshan, They
- 17:36Speaker 3: got Sam Bennett, Matthew Chuck will be back in December.
- 17:39Speaker 3: They still have a great hockey team. I don't think
- 17:41Speaker 3: it's like, hey, they're dead in the water, but they're
- 17:44Speaker 3: a lot less intimidating than I think, in a lot
- 17:47Speaker 3: less deep than they were with Barkoff missing. So door
- 17:51Speaker 3: is open. Somebody's gonna jump up and seize the moment.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Seize it open. The West of team that you like
- 17:58Speaker 2: to make a push this year the Ducks.
- 17:59Speaker 1: We talked about Mason McTavish sitting out Ducks training camp.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Now he signed six years, forty two million dollars cent
- 18:05Speaker 1: you get seven million a year.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Jersey also signs that they're big.
- 18:09Speaker 1: RFA Luke h is getting nine million dollars a year,
- 18:11Speaker 1: seven years, sixty three million dollars. You want to go,
- 18:15Speaker 1: Hughes first, McTavish, The way you gave me the oof, I
- 18:17Speaker 1: think you want to go a little Look Ques here.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I mean you know me.
- 18:20Speaker 2: We are we are.
- 18:22Speaker 3: We are a podcast that advocates for the NHL player.
- 18:26Speaker 3: We are all for them getting paid, even though we
- 18:28Speaker 3: do not get paid. Well here we are advocating for
- 18:31Speaker 3: them to get paid.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But when you smell a rat you get like Jesus
- 18:35Speaker 1: sixty five billion, I mean nine a year is a lot,
- 18:39Speaker 1: Like that's a lot.
- 18:40Speaker 3: You have Dougie Hamilton also at nine. I mean two
- 18:43Speaker 3: guys that aren't necessarily the biggest bruisers out there. And
- 18:47Speaker 3: Luke Hughes, who I had the pleasure of filming with.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Great kid. I hope he can stay healthy, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 3: I think he's had some bad injuries and I think
- 18:57Speaker 3: he needs to get his get his body right, and
- 19:01Speaker 3: I think it'll it'll pay off. I mean as as
- 19:03Speaker 3: a skill guy, you can gate like that and you know,
- 19:07Speaker 3: can influence the playoffensively. But you know, he's very long
- 19:10Speaker 3: and rangy. He I think if he continues to improve defensively,
- 19:13Speaker 3: he could become a good, very good solid you know,
- 19:15Speaker 3: a Thomas Harley, a you know, Devon Tave's s kind
- 19:19Speaker 3: of player. But yeah, I just don't know what they
- 19:23Speaker 3: do now. I think Dougie Hamilton the writings on the wall,
- 19:25Speaker 3: but you know who's going to take that contract. They
- 19:27Speaker 3: might have to eat a little bit. So yeah, so
- 19:30Speaker 3: it's it's interesting times in on the Devils. But they
- 19:33Speaker 3: got to listen their decorse short up, they got all
- 19:35Speaker 3: their defense. Their top six is signed for at least
- 19:38Speaker 3: two years, good veteran decorps, some young young pop there
- 19:41Speaker 3: and we're gonna see what they can do.
- 19:44Speaker 1: But that is a lot of womp them, My friend,
- 19:47Speaker 1: it wasn't that long that that Dougie Hamilton, he was
- 19:49Speaker 1: the prize freasion available.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I remember Ken Danic was falling about this.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, like, oh we got Dougie Hamilton number one defense,
- 19:55Speaker 1: And I'm like, m it's a lot of money and
- 19:57Speaker 1: a lot of term. Back to McTavish, I'm generally of
- 20:00Speaker 1: the opinion in sports when guys hold out, I'm like,
- 20:02Speaker 1: it's not as big a deal as fans think, meaning
- 20:05Speaker 1: spring training is like six weeks.
- 20:06Speaker 2: My guy misses a few weeks. MCAS's not a big deal.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And football got like, these guys are in shape all
- 20:10Speaker 1: the time. Having said that, I may be wrong because
- 20:12Speaker 1: in hockey, the last couple of times that guys have
- 20:14Speaker 1: held out, Jeremy Swayman off here, Trevor Ziegres off here,
- 20:18Speaker 1: do you think impacts Mason McTavish more than people might realize.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I think goaltender is more than anything like goalies. You know.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I talked to Corey Schneider about this a few times
- 20:27Speaker 3: on the Innhel Network, and he's like, it affects goalies
- 20:29Speaker 3: the most because you need to feel the puck. You
- 20:31Speaker 3: need to feel it in training camp. I think a
- 20:33Speaker 3: centerman like him, I think he'll be fine, you know,
- 20:36Speaker 3: I think they have enough depth that you'd be able
- 20:39Speaker 3: to get his legs going. But yeah, it's always an
- 20:41Speaker 3: interesting you need to in hockey. You know, you could
- 20:44Speaker 3: train all summer long, you can skate at you know,
- 20:48Speaker 3: five times a week, but if you're not like feeling
- 20:50Speaker 3: the body and you're not getting into these battle drills.
- 20:53Speaker 3: And also again there's levels I can skate. For some reason,
- 20:57Speaker 3: that's the weirdest thing. I always used to tell people
- 20:59Speaker 3: like I could go on an empty sheet of ice
- 21:02Speaker 3: and skate as hard as I can down and back.
- 21:04Speaker 3: But for some reason, when you're in training camp and
- 21:06Speaker 3: you're around all the guys, it's that little bit faster,
- 21:09Speaker 3: and it's that little bit more fatiguing, just because the
- 21:12Speaker 3: excitement the guys are around. You're also pushing a little
- 21:15Speaker 3: bit harder because there's always like another level to get to,
- 21:18Speaker 3: because when you're skating by yourself, you can never really
- 21:21Speaker 3: get that high end level. You need to compete with
- 21:23Speaker 3: other guys and feel it. So so yeah, so I
- 21:26Speaker 3: think it it'll be a little bit of a learning curve.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I think he's They obviously have to get him into
- 21:30Speaker 3: one preseason game, hopefully maybe two and probably listen, you
- 21:34Speaker 3: got little Carlston though so and you got a lot
- 21:37Speaker 3: of good talent there. But I'm bullish still on the
- 21:40Speaker 3: Anaheim Ducks.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Bullish, bullish And last time before we get to our
- 21:44Speaker 1: special guest, Josh Morsey, you hate to see this during
- 21:46Speaker 1: the preseason kicking off, by the way, you're actually being
- 21:48Speaker 1: in this October seventh already a rash of injuries. Matts
- 21:52Speaker 1: Decrella is a seven to eight lower body injury, Jets
- 21:55Speaker 1: defenseman Dylan Samberg missing six to eight broken wrist, Coppo
- 21:59Speaker 1: Coco out six weeks to the broken hand, and Connects
- 22:02Speaker 1: for Neil's The Hog Hoglander out eight to ten weeks
- 22:06Speaker 1: after surgery. I mean, I know these are not major
- 22:09Speaker 1: injuries per se, but like four to six for some
- 22:11Speaker 1: of these guys, that's not great. But all of a sudden,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you know, guys that you're relying on is top six
- 22:16Speaker 1: players are not showing up till December.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Dylan Sandberg is gonna hurt big time.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I think he's you know, their top four that they
- 22:24Speaker 3: need a big start to the season, and that's central.
- 22:26Speaker 3: That is just a killer. But yeah, anytime you're missing
- 22:29Speaker 3: these players for four to six weeks, I mean, it's
- 22:31Speaker 3: not great. And I know this is going to bring
- 22:33Speaker 3: up some more conversation on preseason and the importance of preseason.
- 22:37Speaker 3: And you know, you look last night, Nick Cousins takes
- 22:41Speaker 3: a whack at I haven't deemed off, you know, and
- 22:44Speaker 3: that's like a dangerous play. And you know, there's different
- 22:47Speaker 3: rules in preseason with suspensions, and sometimes it's overlooked, but
- 22:52Speaker 3: it's always tough when you got guys, and whether it's
- 22:55Speaker 3: on purpose or by accident, but you can't bubble rap guys.
- 22:58Speaker 3: It is what it is. It's the nature of the beast.
- 23:00Speaker 3: It's the same thing in football. I get upset in
- 23:02Speaker 3: football because they really bubble rap guys. And then some
- 23:05Speaker 3: teams go, you know, get off to awful starts because
- 23:09Speaker 3: they haven't done any practice or real time, real world
- 23:12Speaker 3: kind of play. But you know, hockey is so tough.
- 23:15Speaker 3: You need to get up to speed. So I do
- 23:17Speaker 3: think It's just part of the game. It's part of
- 23:19Speaker 3: the it's the nature of the game. If fans get
- 23:22Speaker 3: mad at it, and it's unfortunate, but that's the only
- 23:26Speaker 3: way that guys can get ready for hockey. And it's
- 23:28Speaker 3: a long season, but you can. You can. You go
- 23:30Speaker 3: zero to ten to start the year, or you're five
- 23:33Speaker 3: hundred before November. I mean, it's even tougher to get back.
- 23:36Speaker 3: So you need to have all your ducks in a row,
- 23:37Speaker 3: and you know, just hope guys don't get hurt. But
- 23:40Speaker 3: it is what it is. You know, Samdberg takes a
- 23:42Speaker 3: puck off the wrist, and you know Barkoff falls down
- 23:46Speaker 3: in practice. I mean there's listen, you can get hit
- 23:48Speaker 3: by a car just walking out acrossing the street. So
- 23:51Speaker 3: it is what it is. So what you signed up for.
- 23:53Speaker 3: It's part of the game.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Cubs win, Okay, I love the Nothing worse than NFL preseason.
- 23:58Speaker 1: By the way, you used to be four games and
- 24:00Speaker 1: the third game all the regulars to play. Now they
- 24:02Speaker 1: don't even play it, to your point, like I don't
- 24:04Speaker 1: even like it's like the most pointless thing for sport
- 24:07Speaker 1: in which is the most popular in the country.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Precise is just dog water.
- 24:12Speaker 3: It's it should just be I would just like intersquad
- 24:16Speaker 3: practices and then go like, you know, but you can't.
- 24:19Speaker 3: You just can't stop it because eventually it's a physical game.
- 24:26Speaker 3: You can't protect against that, and you need to You
- 24:29Speaker 3: need to kind of get those reps and of hitting
- 24:32Speaker 3: guys getting hit, feeling it. Your body needs to feel
- 24:35Speaker 3: that kind of tension and that stress on it. Otherwise
- 24:37Speaker 3: you're just when if you just go into game one
- 24:40Speaker 3: you haven't done anything and it ramps up, it's like,
- 24:42Speaker 3: I mean, you're in trouble. It might end up being worse.
- 24:45Speaker 3: So so yeah.
- 24:47Speaker 2: We shall see. Good news is actual hockey is right
- 24:49Speaker 2: around the corner.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That means when it picked, Jets fans cannot wait to
- 24:52Speaker 1: go watch Josh Morris who play. We'll talk to the
- 24:54Speaker 1: Jets defenseman, do a little Jim Morrison's style, break on
- 24:57Speaker 1: through to the other side, how the Jets break on
- 24:59Speaker 1: through it come playoff time, and also ask thembot's four
- 25:01Speaker 1: Nations experience.
- 25:02Speaker 2: All that more coming up next.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Oh Dude of a Side.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Our special guest today on NHL Unscripted.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Drafted thirteenth overall in the twenty thirteen NHL draft by
- 25:24Speaker 1: the Winnipeg Jets for developing h one of the league's
- 25:27Speaker 1: best defenseman. Last season, Josh Morrisy enjoyed his third straight
- 25:30Speaker 1: sixty plus points season in Winnipeg and was a member
- 25:33Speaker 1: of the Canadian team that won the historic Four Nations
- 25:36Speaker 1: face off. You know him, you love him, Josh Morrisy, Josh,
- 25:38Speaker 1: great to see him.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Man, Hey, thanks for having me on.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Before you and Gid start chopping up, because you're already
- 25:44Speaker 1: calling you momos. I know there's a bunch of inside
- 25:45Speaker 1: jokes coming up here.
- 25:46Speaker 2: But how is the summer? What did you do?
- 25:48Speaker 1: What did you do after a pretty exhausting NHL season,
- 25:50Speaker 1: especially with the Four Nations?
- 25:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that summer was good. Spent a little time back
- 25:55Speaker 5: in Calvary. That's kind of where hangout in the summertime.
- 25:58Speaker 5: So just you know, usual lot of training, skating all
- 26:02Speaker 5: that stuff, but coming off the lost to Dallas, had
- 26:08Speaker 5: some injury rehab to get done as well. But there
- 26:11Speaker 5: was some fun in there, a little Ireland golf trip
- 26:14Speaker 5: with some guys overseas for Leon's wedding. So it was
- 26:19Speaker 5: a good summer, a little bit, a little bit of fun,
- 26:21Speaker 5: a lot of training and happy to be back.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Now, Well, we got to talk a little bit about
- 26:27Speaker 3: the playoffs and your season last year. I mean, historic
- 26:30Speaker 3: season for the Jets. I mean, you got one hundred
- 26:31Speaker 3: and sixteen points, win the President's Trophy, get to the playoffs.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I mean that first round took a lot out of
- 26:37Speaker 3: you guys. I feel like, and you know, how was
- 26:41Speaker 3: it and how's the vibe in the locker room to
- 26:43Speaker 3: start this season? And is it very much so a
- 26:47Speaker 3: we got to repeat what we did or hey, guys,
- 26:48Speaker 3: let's just get to the playoffs and keep building on
- 26:51Speaker 3: what we already built last year.
- 26:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know what, that series against Saint
- 26:56Speaker 5: Louis was an absolute war war. We played I don't
- 27:01Speaker 5: know how many series and whatever over the last ten years,
- 27:04Speaker 5: but that was that was the most physical series have
- 27:08Speaker 5: been a part of. For sure. It was, you know,
- 27:10Speaker 5: just to grind everybody, whether you know, quote unquote skill
- 27:14Speaker 5: forwards were all playing physical. I mean, that's playoff hockey,
- 27:17Speaker 5: but it was definitely the physical side was taken to
- 27:20Speaker 5: another level in that series. So it was a grind.
- 27:24Speaker 5: You know, obviously took us right down to the wire
- 27:26Speaker 5: in Game seven and overtime. You know, for us looking
- 27:30Speaker 5: at the last number of years prior, getting through the
- 27:33Speaker 5: first round was something that we'd heard a lot about,
- 27:37Speaker 5: and so I think, you know, of course, just because
- 27:40Speaker 5: you get to the second round doesn't mean you've won anything.
- 27:42Speaker 5: But I think it was a you know, a good
- 27:46Speaker 5: moment for our team, and that's something I think we're
- 27:48Speaker 5: kind of trying to build off, as Hey, we had
- 27:50Speaker 5: a great year last year. You know, we found a way,
- 27:54Speaker 5: you know, in a crazy comeback to get through the
- 27:56Speaker 5: first round and uh, you know, obviously ran into good Dallas.
- 28:01Speaker 5: Team still felt like, uh, you know, we were right
- 28:04Speaker 5: there and that series, and so you know, I think
- 28:06Speaker 5: it's exciting coming back this year. I think, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 5: the ultimate goal, of course, hey, you'd love to win
- 28:14Speaker 5: the Presidence Trophy again, you'd love to win the Stanley Cup.
- 28:17Speaker 5: But ultimately it's how can we grow off you know,
- 28:20Speaker 5: last season, How can we build to try and to win,
- 28:24Speaker 5: you know, in the playoffs and be ready to come
- 28:26Speaker 5: playoff time and and win the Stanley Cup. Obviously that's
- 28:30Speaker 5: that's what we're what everybody's here for. And so I
- 28:33Speaker 5: think just uh yeah, like I said, it's it's a
- 28:36Speaker 5: long season, it's a tough road, to get there. I mean,
- 28:39Speaker 5: making the playoffs is not easy, but you know, I
- 28:41Speaker 5: just want to build off last season and lots of
- 28:43Speaker 5: the good things we did.
- 28:46Speaker 3: As a team.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And to your point, Josh, it wasn't like Chevy Blue
- 28:49Speaker 1: things up. You know, it pretty much is the same team.
- 28:51Speaker 1: One notable exception, Nikolai Eelers leaves in free agency, but
- 28:55Speaker 1: you're bringing three time Cup champion Jonathan Taves.
- 28:57Speaker 2: What's been like, you know, captain Sirius.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, it's tough losing Eeler, obviously, Nick,
- 29:05Speaker 5: He's a great player, and that's just the business we're in.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Guys are leaving everywhere all the time, so you know,
- 29:12Speaker 5: gonna miss playing with him. But you know, as you
- 29:14Speaker 5: mentioned bringing in Johnny Taves, I mean, you know when
- 29:18Speaker 5: he came into the league, and I remember the first
- 29:21Speaker 5: Cup there in twenty ten, you know, and I think
- 29:24Speaker 5: they won Olympic gold that year as well. I mean
- 29:27Speaker 5: I would have been in grade.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Ten, so he swept me in that they swept me
- 29:31Speaker 3: in the conference finals. Thanks for bringing that one up.
- 29:34Speaker 5: Yeah, But nonetheless, I mean just absolute legend and guy
- 29:39Speaker 5: that I looked up to a lot, love watching play,
- 29:43Speaker 5: you know, of course his Winnipeg roots, growing up here
- 29:46Speaker 5: and kind of being the prodigal Sun. So there's a
- 29:49Speaker 5: ton of buzz here in Winnipeg. Fans are really excited
- 29:53Speaker 5: and yeah, it's been awesome, you know, getting to know
- 29:56Speaker 5: him a little bit before camp and through camp. You know,
- 30:00Speaker 5: he's just got so much experience. You know, two Olympic
- 30:03Speaker 5: Golds recups, Stanley Cup Champ. I just saw a graphic
- 30:08Speaker 5: the other day on maybe the NHL or something like that,
- 30:10Speaker 5: fifteen year captain. So you know, the resume speaks for itself.
- 30:15Speaker 5: And you know, we talked about some of those big
- 30:18Speaker 5: moments in the season and you know, obviously of course
- 30:21Speaker 5: playoff time, and you know, you can't help but think
- 30:25Speaker 5: that a guy like that in the locker room is
- 30:27Speaker 5: going to just provide so much help, you know, beyond
- 30:31Speaker 5: just the stuff he can do on the ice, which
- 30:32Speaker 5: he looks great and is back to health again. So
- 30:35Speaker 5: really excited to have him.
- 30:37Speaker 3: That's so great to hear. And it is interesting because
- 30:40Speaker 3: you know, Winnipeg's gotten such a knock on them for
- 30:43Speaker 3: not you know, they have to grow the talent from within.
- 30:46Speaker 3: It's hard to get guys to sign in free agency,
- 30:48Speaker 3: but talk a little bit about that and like what's
- 30:51Speaker 3: different there and what do you see as like maybe
- 30:53Speaker 3: a determining factor of why you guys grow your talent
- 30:57Speaker 3: from such a young age and you guys have so
- 30:59Speaker 3: many guys that are homegrown from Manitoba and that have
- 31:02Speaker 3: now just become these these stuff us and these contributing
- 31:05Speaker 3: players in the NHL. Is there anything that's done differently
- 31:07Speaker 3: and what do you feel is really the thing that
- 31:10Speaker 3: separates Winnipeg from other organizations and developing players.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, I think it starts obviously
- 31:18Speaker 5: with the draft. You know, when you look back at
- 31:20Speaker 5: sort of when the Jets move from Atlanta, you know,
- 31:24Speaker 5: guys like Mark Scheiff, Lee, Adam Lowry, Jacob Truba, Connor Hellibuck, myself,
- 31:29Speaker 5: Nick Heelers, Kyle Connor, you know, and and more guys
- 31:34Speaker 5: beyond that as well. Like that kind of set the
- 31:37Speaker 5: stage I think in those drafts for really a lot
- 31:41Speaker 5: of the core players that have been here for a
- 31:42Speaker 5: long time, And you know, I think when I reflect
- 31:46Speaker 5: on my time this far, it's you know, I think
- 31:50Speaker 5: a lot about the leadership guys that were here. You know,
- 31:53Speaker 5: Blake Wheeler was a guy that really pushed us. This
- 31:56Speaker 5: guy looked up to a lot. It was obviously our captain,
- 32:00Speaker 5: and I think just that kind of culture environment of
- 32:03Speaker 5: like continuing to push yourself. You make the NHL, you
- 32:07Speaker 5: play a year, you play two years. I mean, you
- 32:09Speaker 5: know that's great, but at the end of the day,
- 32:12Speaker 5: you can never stop working on your game and trying
- 32:14Speaker 5: to get better. And so, you know, I think when
- 32:16Speaker 5: you when you look at a lot of the guys
- 32:18Speaker 5: that are sort of have been here for a while
- 32:21Speaker 5: and you know, are kind of well into their prime
- 32:23Speaker 5: to their career, you know, they have improved throughout that
- 32:28Speaker 5: time window. They haven't just kind of gotten comfortable. The
- 32:32Speaker 5: organization has given them opportunity to kind of grow in
- 32:34Speaker 5: the role as well. But you know, I think it's
- 32:37Speaker 5: it's obviously it's on the players for taking that initiative
- 32:41Speaker 5: and wanting to get better and continue to grow. Like
- 32:44Speaker 5: I said, I think it's on the leadership. This is
- 32:46Speaker 5: here when we came in as young guys, and I
- 32:48Speaker 5: do think it's the organization for drafting well, but also
- 32:52Speaker 5: you know, kind of giving us an environment promoting us
- 32:55Speaker 5: to you know, improve and grow with from within and
- 32:58Speaker 5: and also have that patience too. I mean, you know,
- 33:01Speaker 5: it's easy for an organization to turn the page on
- 33:05Speaker 5: a player early in their career, and I think they've
- 33:07Speaker 5: done a good job of sticking with guys. So you
- 33:10Speaker 5: know it's now as sort of veteran player, you know,
- 33:13Speaker 5: you want to try to return the favor and create
- 33:15Speaker 5: that environment for the younger guys where obviously they come
- 33:18Speaker 5: in they feel good about their game, but also you know,
- 33:21Speaker 5: we have a certain expectation here, you know, how hard
- 33:24Speaker 5: we work and how we prepare and how we come
- 33:27Speaker 5: in you know, in shape and all those different things.
- 33:30Speaker 5: And so yeah, it's been fun to kind of see
- 33:32Speaker 5: that progress now over ten years. I guess Josh, you'ra
- 33:36Speaker 5: you know you're from Calgary, northern boy. You played Prince Albert, Manitoba.
- 33:41Speaker 5: You've you've spent so much time in the North, you know,
- 33:44Speaker 5: Winnipeg as well. You know you probably noticed my little
- 33:47Speaker 5: shirt here, no big deal representing the Olympics. You go
- 33:50Speaker 5: and represent Canada. You're a Canadian boy.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Through and through, you bleed the mayple leaf. Talk to
- 33:56Speaker 3: me a little bit about you know, you know you've
- 33:58Speaker 3: represented your country a couple of times. I have you
- 34:01Speaker 3: already in my early window for the Olympics. But talk
- 34:04Speaker 3: about the four nations last season. Just how amazing that
- 34:08Speaker 3: was to see just the high stakes nature of the
- 34:11Speaker 3: nations representing each other and just how fun was that.
- 34:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, uh, you know it was incredible. You know,
- 34:20Speaker 5: you and I met JD at World We did. We did,
- 34:24Speaker 5: we did. We had a little bit of fun there,
- 34:27Speaker 5: that's for sure. Almost one almost one shootout bullshit, such
- 34:34Speaker 5: a joke should have just been unlimited.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Ot. We would have won, for sure, crushed him.
- 34:38Speaker 5: One Quest was pretty good in that final, so.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Well, yeah, well Nate Dogg missed the wide open net
- 34:43Speaker 3: Nate McKinnon and that was a tap in, so that
- 34:45Speaker 3: would killed us. But you talk about four nations and
- 34:48Speaker 3: we don't need to talk about the one where you won.
- 34:50Speaker 3: That's more important. But just how crazy was the vibe
- 34:53Speaker 3: there man Boston, Montreal, like that the roof was coming
- 34:56Speaker 3: off the building. And just take us through that tournament
- 35:00Speaker 3: and what it meant to kind of represent on you know,
- 35:02Speaker 3: that big a stage. Because World Championshi is great, but
- 35:05Speaker 3: I mean this is a different level.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Oh for sure, it was a totally different level. I mean,
- 35:11Speaker 5: I think just the anticipation of having the NHL Best
- 35:15Speaker 5: on Best again was a huge part of the build
- 35:17Speaker 5: up and excitement. I mean last time was what twenty
- 35:20Speaker 5: sixteen World Cups, so it had been a while and
- 35:25Speaker 5: a lot of the generation of players. I mean, you know,
- 35:28Speaker 5: on our team Canada, I think there was only three
- 35:30Speaker 5: guys that were part of the sixteen World Cup team,
- 35:34Speaker 5: so you know, kind of a whole new new generation
- 35:37Speaker 5: of players. First opportunity to represent Canada on that stage,
- 35:40Speaker 5: and you know, to do it in Montreal and Boston,
- 35:44Speaker 5: I mean, you know, two insane hockey markets.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 35:49Speaker 5: It was the most fun I've had playing the game,
- 35:50Speaker 5: that's for sure. Just coming out in the Bell Center
- 35:53Speaker 5: thinking about it gives me chills. Obviously wearing the maple
- 35:57Speaker 5: leaf and representing Canada with all those guys and doing it,
- 36:01Speaker 5: you know, in that arena and environment was insane, and
- 36:05Speaker 5: obviously just uh, the hockey itself. I mean we were
- 36:09Speaker 5: sitting around after the first game and I think everyone
- 36:12Speaker 5: was kind of we played Sweeten in game one and
- 36:14Speaker 5: everyone's kind of thinking, man like, that was so fast,
- 36:17Speaker 5: We're all kind of out of breath, and we had
- 36:18Speaker 5: this crazy ot win with Martins and and Sid said
- 36:23Speaker 5: something like that was the fastest game he'd ever played,
- 36:25Speaker 5: and I think, then, wow, if Sid's saying it, then
- 36:27Speaker 5: you know we can think the same game. But yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 5: it was just crazy crazy the speed, the physicality, intensity.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Like I said, it was the best, by far, the
- 36:38Speaker 5: best quality of hockey I'd ever been a part of
- 36:41Speaker 5: and and played, you know, And so yeah, definitely, Uh
- 36:46Speaker 5: when we won in Boston and Davo scored the ot winner,
- 36:50Speaker 5: it was a huge moment and you know, it just
- 36:52Speaker 5: makes uh makes you want to be a part of
- 36:54Speaker 5: and have a chance to do it this coming year
- 36:56Speaker 5: at the Olympics.
- 36:57Speaker 3: How many beers were drank after that one as nice
- 37:01Speaker 3: to see Davo get the Monkey office back to it
- 37:03Speaker 3: felt like, yeah.
- 37:05Speaker 5: I mean, you know, I think just special players are
- 37:08Speaker 5: kind of built for those moments and you know, step
- 37:11Speaker 5: up in those moments and obviously, you know that's what
- 37:14Speaker 5: he did and uh, you know, secured that that win.
- 37:17Speaker 5: But yeah, I definitely it was a huge party after
- 37:20Speaker 5: I was under the weather unfortunately, so I didn't get
- 37:23Speaker 5: to see too many of those beer. The Jordan flu
- 37:26Speaker 5: game nice, but but yeah, I think the guys had
- 37:31Speaker 5: a pretty good celebration and and enjoyed it.
- 37:34Speaker 1: That's an amazing quote, by the way, from Sidon, and
- 37:36Speaker 1: you're right, it means more of pieces at first if
- 37:38Speaker 1: you say it first, that's the fastest talking ever. And
- 37:39Speaker 1: he's like, I wasn't that bad, Like myself looked bad
- 37:42Speaker 1: for us, But for him to point that, it shows
- 37:44Speaker 1: the level of competition. We all know your career and
- 37:46Speaker 1: how fabulous suspend Josh, but honestly, it really changed for
- 37:49Speaker 1: everyone you played with JD Team Canada twenty seventeen World Championships,
- 37:53Speaker 1: Nate McKinnon, Mitch Marner, Markshifleet, Brayden Point, Matt Tuson, More importantly,
- 37:58Speaker 1: Jason de Murz.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Talk to me. What was he like as a teammate.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Yeah, he was unreal. I mean, you know, going there.
- 38:06Speaker 5: That was just after my rookie year in the NHL.
- 38:08Speaker 5: So he took you under his wing, he did, no,
- 38:12Speaker 5: I think he did. He took a lot of us
- 38:13Speaker 5: under his wing. And you go to that environment. I
- 38:16Speaker 5: mean a bunch of the names you mentioned, but guys
- 38:18Speaker 5: like Kloe Drew, you know, yeah, and you know Ryan O'Reilly,
- 38:24Speaker 5: like some veteran guys that you know are kind of
- 38:27Speaker 5: already legends, right, and so I think, you know, coming
- 38:31Speaker 5: in there, I was pretty nervous. I'm not gonna lie,
- 38:33Speaker 5: you know, coming in as a twenty one year old
- 38:35Speaker 5: or whatever into that environment with those players, and JD
- 38:39Speaker 5: just was unreal at kind of breaking the ice obviously
- 38:45Speaker 5: on the ice, off the ice, you know, in the
- 38:48Speaker 5: locker room, but definitely I felt like, you know, I
- 38:52Speaker 5: I'd always looking back and in the moment, I always
- 38:55Speaker 5: was really appreciative for how you kind of brought everybody together,
- 38:59Speaker 5: and especially you know, these younger guys and as younger
- 39:02Speaker 5: d Man back there, you know, kind of brought us together.
- 39:05Speaker 5: So it was a lot of fun.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Well you I mean Adnan like he played with Mike
- 39:10Speaker 3: Matheson for most of the tournament, and you look at
- 39:12Speaker 3: these two guys and you know, it was like me
- 39:14Speaker 3: and Calvin Dehan playing ahead of them and we're like
- 39:16Speaker 3: kind of laughing, me into Han and being like these
- 39:17Speaker 3: kids are gonna they're they're coming to take Yeah, we're
- 39:21Speaker 3: times up. But I don't know if you remember that
- 39:24Speaker 3: Russia game where you and Mikey Mattz had like an
- 39:26Speaker 3: unreal game a couple of points, you know, take us
- 39:29Speaker 3: through that game a little bit because that was like
- 39:30Speaker 3: an insane comeback that we had, and I always forget that. Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 3: we lost in the finals, but like that game, we
- 39:36Speaker 3: were down against Russia, and you know, we kind of
- 39:39Speaker 3: was like a collective effort, but you guys stepped up
- 39:42Speaker 3: huge in that moment for us and and really brought
- 39:44Speaker 3: us back. Yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 5: I mean, uh, it's been a while obviously now and
- 39:49Speaker 5: then like and you're right, I think we think a
- 39:51Speaker 5: lot about or I think about the final, but obviously
- 39:56Speaker 5: I think Russia had a really good, really good team.
- 39:58Speaker 5: I think Coach might have been playing for them. Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 5: I just felt like it was a really a close group.
- 40:05Speaker 5: I mean, uh, you know, we.
- 40:07Speaker 3: It was a close group and too close.
- 40:10Speaker 5: Yeah exactly, but uh no, it was a good time
- 40:15Speaker 5: and I think just yeah, we we came together, Coop
- 40:18Speaker 5: was coaching, and I felt like we never really didn't
- 40:22Speaker 5: believe we could win. We thought it was always possible,
- 40:25Speaker 5: and you know, it was a huge comeback, you know,
- 40:29Speaker 5: and and like I said, I felt like, you know,
- 40:32Speaker 5: it's just too bad we didn't obviously find a way
- 40:34Speaker 5: to win in that final, because all in all, it
- 40:37Speaker 5: was really one of the kind of great hockey experiences I've.
- 40:40Speaker 3: I've had uh yeah.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Those guys and and then you know, we were in
- 40:44Speaker 5: Paris for two weeks, I mean and Cologne was an
- 40:46Speaker 5: amazing city too, So yeah, it was a ton of fun.
- 40:48Speaker 5: But yeah, that Russia game was was definitely a special one.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Well, we'll talk a little bit, you know, getting outside
- 40:57Speaker 3: of hockey, and you know, I had a ton of
- 41:00Speaker 3: interest when I played outside of hockey and just didn't
- 41:02Speaker 3: want to be limited to one kind of thing. And
- 41:04Speaker 3: and it's something I did not who I was, but
- 41:06Speaker 3: talk about you you know, you're kind of have a
- 41:08Speaker 3: lot of food and hospitality ventures kind of going in
- 41:10Speaker 3: your portfolio. Talk about that, the forty four, all the
- 41:14Speaker 3: kind of initiatives you're a part of because it's it
- 41:17Speaker 3: looks really cool and it's kind of something of you know,
- 41:20Speaker 3: telling the fans you're listening of just what you're up
- 41:22Speaker 3: to and what you're doing to kind of extend your
- 41:25Speaker 3: brand outside of the game of hockey.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Yeah, so the forty four specifically, a friend of mine
- 41:32Speaker 5: here in Winnipeg runs a number of restaurants. You've probably
- 41:36Speaker 5: had some when you were here on the road by.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Sneaky Restaurant City.
- 41:41Speaker 2: So he said that Winnipeg better food than you realize.
- 41:44Speaker 5: For sure.
- 41:44Speaker 3: It is for sure.
- 41:46Speaker 5: So anyway, we kind of talked for a long time.
- 41:48Speaker 5: You know, he's a big idea guy, and you know,
- 41:50Speaker 5: I go in for an espresso or something in the afternoon.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Oh kind of chop it up.
- 41:55Speaker 5: But you know we were talking about we kind of
- 41:58Speaker 5: had the idea, man, And there's this rate kind of
- 42:01Speaker 5: attached to the arena art by a play fifteen or
- 42:05Speaker 5: the Skywalk, whatever you call them.
- 42:07Speaker 3: There's sort of a big.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Court or food hall where people kind of hang out
- 42:13Speaker 5: before the game. So basically, yeah, we were like, you know,
- 42:16Speaker 5: it'd be cool to kind of create something in there.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Obviously him on the restaurant side, food side, and you
- 42:23Speaker 5: know me basically just totally on I guess bring you
- 42:27Speaker 5: some attention to it. But it was fun to kind
- 42:31Speaker 5: of go down that path. We ended up opening in
- 42:33Speaker 5: there just before the playoffs a couple of years ago,
- 42:36Speaker 5: sort of game day food. And basically it's a food
- 42:40Speaker 5: hall where you go up, you've got like a couple
- 42:42Speaker 5: of chefs work and somebody work in the till and
- 42:46Speaker 5: so it's pretty lively in there before and after games.
- 42:49Speaker 5: And yeah, it's been kind of interesting to just learn
- 42:51Speaker 5: a little bit of the business side of you know,
- 42:54Speaker 5: how to make that work, and then on the menu
- 42:57Speaker 5: side as well, given a little bit of input. So
- 43:00Speaker 5: that's been been a fun venture and something that I
- 43:03Speaker 5: think a lot of the fans here in Winnipeg have
- 43:06Speaker 5: actually brought up to me, you know, when we interact
- 43:09Speaker 5: with people in the community at restaurants or coffee shops
- 43:12Speaker 5: or whatever. You know, people have enjoyed kind of that
- 43:15Speaker 5: connection with the players and so excited to keep that
- 43:19Speaker 5: going here in the next year's to come. And then
- 43:23Speaker 5: outside of that, just you know, typical stuff. I think,
- 43:26Speaker 5: just trying to keep options open and I enjoy sort
- 43:31Speaker 5: of turning my brain off outside of the game sometimes
- 43:34Speaker 5: and need it, you know how those things can kind
- 43:36Speaker 5: of keep you balanced. So that's been been something I've
- 43:39Speaker 5: gotten better at throughout my career, that's for sure.
- 43:41Speaker 1: I love the link on the forty four from your Instagram,
- 43:44Speaker 1: so it goes to Josh's signatures.
- 43:46Speaker 2: The first thing that you get is wings.
- 43:48Speaker 1: One pound of wings tossed in your choice salt and pepper,
- 43:51Speaker 1: salt and Venitor buffalo sauce and blue cheese dip. Also
- 43:53Speaker 1: among Josh's favorites prime rib sliders, pop shrimp, and then
- 43:58Speaker 1: there's the sandwiches served in a house sourdough. So listen, Josh,
- 44:01Speaker 1: everyone loves wings. What makes the wings the forty four special?
- 44:04Speaker 2: Do you give input on this?
- 44:06Speaker 5: Well, I think it's definitely the chefs back there that
- 44:10Speaker 5: make it special. I mean, we really wanted to do
- 44:13Speaker 5: something that was you know, kind of lends itself to pregame, postgame,
- 44:17Speaker 5: you know, what you want to eat in that environment.
- 44:19Speaker 5: So all those things I think kind of hit the
- 44:21Speaker 5: nail on the head. But also, you know something that's
- 44:25Speaker 5: I mean, you can have there's a range of wings, right,
- 44:28Speaker 5: there's a range of prime rib sliders, let's say. So
- 44:31Speaker 5: they try to do really upscale, high end ingredients and
- 44:35Speaker 5: so something that's even as simple as a slider, let's say,
- 44:38Speaker 5: they're they're trying to make with you know, great quality
- 44:42Speaker 5: beef and and whatnot. So yeah, I think it's just
- 44:46Speaker 5: that attention to detail that probably makes the food what
- 44:49Speaker 5: it is and the passion from the chefs. Thankfully, I'm
- 44:54Speaker 5: never back there. I've had some fans and people in
- 44:57Speaker 5: the community kind of ask if I'm ever back there,
- 45:00Speaker 5: you know, working the grill.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Boiler, just boiling some hey, exactly.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't even think I could do that, so
- 45:09Speaker 5: but yeah, it's been fun. And the one thing that's
- 45:11Speaker 5: probably best for me is that the delivery at radius
- 45:15Speaker 5: doesn't reach my house, so otherwise I'd be ordering all
- 45:19Speaker 5: the time and i'd be uh, you know, maybe a
- 45:21Speaker 5: little bit slower out there. So that's probably for the best.
- 45:25Speaker 2: The forty two Hard Grave Street.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Check it out Winnipeg, Manitoba, and check out Josh Morsey
- 45:30Speaker 1: on the ice at Canada Life Center, and we'll be
- 45:32Speaker 1: seeing you of course in Amazon Prime Mindy Night Hockey.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Honestly, this was so much fun, Josh.
- 45:36Speaker 1: It was a great season last year, really broke out
- 45:38Speaker 1: in a big way and continued success not only in
- 45:40Speaker 1: the regular season but also of course playing for Canada
- 45:42Speaker 1: at the Olympics. This is great man, Thank.
- 45:44Speaker 5: You, Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Thanks once again at Josh Morsy was fantastic.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Speaking of fantastic, Paul Thomas Anderson is one of our
- 45:57Speaker 1: most gifted tours ever since Oh heart Ache, Oh Hard Magnolia.
- 46:02Speaker 1: There will be blood the mass, licorice pizza. I'm a
- 46:06Speaker 1: bad child, I'm a bad d my boy, I drink
- 46:11Speaker 1: your milkshake. I drink it up.
- 46:14Speaker 2: See you have a straw, and then I have a straw. Uh.
- 46:18Speaker 2: The guy's a hell of a filmmaker.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And originally, as I told you guys before, I'm like
- 46:22Speaker 1: JD a big fan of trailers.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Talent's a good trailer. I used to love.
- 46:25Speaker 1: I used to love trailers. Say if I'm gonna see
- 46:27Speaker 1: the movie, I don't want to watch the trailer. But
- 46:28Speaker 1: then everyone kept saying, have you seen the trailer for
- 46:30Speaker 1: One Battle leptrill? This is a couple months ago. Listen,
- 46:32Speaker 1: if I hear Paul Thomas Anderson, I'm in. I don't
- 46:34Speaker 1: need to see the trailer. I saw the trailer, Like,
- 46:36Speaker 1: holy shit, I'm excited. I gotta go see this car.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a great trailer and it's a hell
- 46:41Speaker 2: of a movie.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I haven't been easy to now going in it is
- 46:45Speaker 1: a bit concerned because some of the critics say, well,
- 46:48Speaker 1: it's his most commercial movie, I e.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Selling out a little bit.
- 46:51Speaker 1: One hundred and seventy million dollar budgets and action movie
- 46:54Speaker 1: action comedy. I I like the esoteric, idiosyncratic behavior of
- 46:58Speaker 1: frogs falling from the sky at Magnolia. I like a
- 47:00Speaker 1: movie about the porn industry, like Boogie Knights, like I
- 47:02Speaker 1: hope My Man isn't going too far off kilter, but
- 47:04Speaker 1: Tellum happy to report while the film is definitely more mainstream,
- 47:07Speaker 1: more accessible, one might say it still has a lot
- 47:10Speaker 1: of subtext going underneath.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Real simple. Leonardo DiCaprio is part of a radical.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Group, gets hooked up with a young lady and they
- 47:18Speaker 1: start doing some bad things. The film fast forwards years
- 47:20Speaker 1: later and Sean Penn, who's playing one badass of the
- 47:24Speaker 1: hell militaristic figure, is on the hunt to find Leo
- 47:28Speaker 1: and this young lady. And I think what smart with
- 47:31Speaker 1: the movie is. Yes, it's really funny. Yes, it's got
- 47:33Speaker 1: some incredible action set pieces which we haven't seen from
- 47:35Speaker 1: Pete Anderson before. But it's also really subversive. It's making
- 47:39Speaker 1: comments about authoritarianism, about racism, of what's happening today.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Smart, funny and highly entertaining.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Two forty five run Time didn't feel it, which is
- 47:47Speaker 1: always a great conflict to his movies.
- 47:48Speaker 4: You, Yeah, that was the big takeaway for me. I
- 47:52Speaker 4: mean it flew by the pace is just relentless. I
- 47:56Speaker 4: was joking with you before you hear that sort of
- 47:59Speaker 4: the reviews.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Saying an action packed thrill ride.
- 48:02Speaker 4: This actually was an action packed thrill ride, and it
- 48:05Speaker 4: was kind of unusual because my biggest criticism of Paul
- 48:08Speaker 4: Thomas Anderson often is that his films are too slow,
- 48:11Speaker 4: and this one just was NonStop, like it flew by
- 48:15Speaker 4: for for a longer film.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 48:17Speaker 1: How about the rave reviews, I mean richally, like I said,
- 48:19Speaker 1: more a commercial film, ninety percent Rotten Tomatoes. Now he
- 48:22Speaker 1: might finally win an Oscar. I mean, it's been a
- 48:23Speaker 1: pretty lean year as far as it's concerned.
- 48:25Speaker 2: JD. You can't wait to see it. Obviously you've got
- 48:27Speaker 2: a lot going on, But you're gonna watch this in theaters? Yes,
- 48:29Speaker 2: I'm ast.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yes, I've watched the trailer multiple times. We'll probably watch
- 48:33Speaker 3: it tonight. Everything I saw was like all the reviews.
- 48:37Speaker 3: A lot of the reviews was that this is going
- 48:40Speaker 3: to win all the awards, all the oscars, like already,
- 48:43Speaker 3: like like basically, lock it down. They got it.
- 48:47Speaker 2: I loved.
- 48:47Speaker 3: I'm such a big fan of Benisio del Toro and
- 48:49Speaker 3: his evolution as an actor as well, Like I just
- 48:52Speaker 3: think he's he's so good as a like comedic as
- 48:56Speaker 3: well as he is serious, like he plays such a
- 48:59Speaker 3: blurs the lines very well. So I'm excited. And obviously Leo,
- 49:02Speaker 3: Leo DiCaprio de bang every chick in the world do Yeah,
- 49:07Speaker 3: I did. What a great actor?
- 49:08Speaker 2: I oh what?
- 49:09Speaker 3: I looked at my last thought. Sorry, I looked at
- 49:12Speaker 3: my wife and I said, I think this saga of
- 49:15Speaker 3: Leo's life now, like going now in the next twenty
- 49:18Speaker 3: years will be his like best acting in his biggest roles,
- 49:21Speaker 3: because I think he's really got some depth and I
- 49:25Speaker 3: think he's gonna hit some really big He's gonna hit
- 49:28Speaker 3: some movies out of the park.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I think it's amazing thing.
- 49:31Speaker 1: But he's going a handful of movies with Scor says
- 49:32Speaker 1: he's hoping to make another one with him as well.
- 49:34Speaker 1: He's worked with Steven Spielberg obviously, catch me if you
- 49:36Speaker 1: can now, work with Paul Thomas Anderson, like he's worked
- 49:38Speaker 1: with all the greatest filmmakers out there. Obviously, when An
- 49:41Speaker 1: Oscar work with Alejandro Gonzalez and Retoo for wrestling a
- 49:44Speaker 1: bear in the Revenant, and I'm with you, Like for
- 49:46Speaker 1: a guy who's a good looking guy who bangs models
- 49:48Speaker 1: half his age, he's a hell of an actor man
- 49:50Speaker 1: period like.
- 49:50Speaker 2: He takes the craft seriously. Is he like to get
- 49:52Speaker 2: after it? Sure, we all do. Is he a little
- 49:54Speaker 2: more Jordan Belfort Wolf of Walshot than you might think? Probably?
- 49:57Speaker 2: But the guy brings it in this movie. He's hysterical, underrated, comedic.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Chops, missile, Calevin Candy.
- 50:06Speaker 4: We finally get to answer the question what would happen
- 50:08Speaker 4: if if The Big Lebowski was about an anti government
- 50:11Speaker 4: oh revolutionary who turns into a paranoid burnout dad.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Leo plays the stoner well in this And now I'm
- 50:19Speaker 1: going to listen to all the reviews and all the
- 50:21Speaker 1: publicity because Leo's been out there. This is an expensive movie.
- 50:24Speaker 1: He knows you wants to try to help Peta Ters
- 50:25Speaker 1: to make this a hit. He was all the Kelsey brothers,
- 50:27Speaker 1: who I've never listened to their podcast, of course I
- 50:29Speaker 1: love Jason and An Eagles great. And they asked him about, Hey,
- 50:32Speaker 1: what's tough for like some of the scenes to what
- 50:33Speaker 1: Tal's referencing running around your bathroom or the kulude scene
- 50:37Speaker 1: in Wolf of Wall Street. He goes, listen, the quaalude scene,
- 50:39Speaker 1: he goes was supposed to be like I thought it
- 50:41Speaker 1: was a couple hours and Marty's likes, no, we gotta
- 50:43Speaker 1: do more.
- 50:43Speaker 2: You gotta call the car, you gotta do this because
- 50:45Speaker 2: it was like four days.
- 50:46Speaker 1: So because that was unbelievable physical exertion I had to do,
- 50:50Speaker 1: which I didn't realize it was that kind of effort
- 50:51Speaker 1: because I was not prepared for it. But to this
- 50:53Speaker 1: day people think I'm on Kuela's or did a reasonablef
- 50:55Speaker 1: fectsimly of it.
- 50:56Speaker 2: It's a hill work.
- 50:58Speaker 3: He went on The Kelsey Show.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Kelsey podcasts.
- 51:01Speaker 3: I come with, like, Wow, that show should just be
- 51:03Speaker 3: Jason Kelsey and yeah, Travis Kin thank you.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I mean he's a dud, right, Jason's auestme. He's funny,
- 51:09Speaker 1: He's that's Travis dud.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I mean, Travis probably a nice guy, but he's a
- 51:13Speaker 3: duty He's bringing nothing, nothing but Fizer commercials.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Right, And they've got a little bit of sports talk,
- 51:18Speaker 1: Like I thought they were talking more football Leo's he
- 51:19Speaker 1: doesn't have it, doesn't have a team. They talked more Lakers.
- 51:22Speaker 1: He said, best Foreman sports moment you've been a part of.
- 51:25Speaker 1: He goes Kobe shack the Lab against the Blazers two
- 51:28Speaker 1: thousand Western Conference files.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Because I was there.
- 51:29Speaker 2: They went insane.
- 51:31Speaker 1: He's like, the only sport I really truly follow properly
- 51:33Speaker 1: is basketball and the Lakers, because otherwise I just wear
- 51:35Speaker 1: like cool swag because like we saw, because we saw
- 51:37Speaker 1: a picture of you wearing like a Chief sat He's like,
- 51:39Speaker 1: I don't know, because I was probably Leo's the guy,
- 51:42Speaker 1: because I was probably in case someone gave me the hat,
- 51:44Speaker 1: Like whatever, it's I don't you know.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just hiding from paparazzi exactly.
- 51:50Speaker 1: All right, From Leo to Max Paturetti. Retiring after seventeen
- 51:53Speaker 1: seasons with five teams, Patrirett has announced his retirement, aged
- 51:56Speaker 1: thirty six. First round pick by Montreal and O seven,
- 51:59Speaker 1: went on to become the Canadian's captain before being traded
- 52:01Speaker 1: to Vegas, where he played four seasons, then bounce between Carolina,
- 52:05Speaker 1: Washington and Toronto. Unfortunately, JD injuries really did derail in
- 52:09Speaker 1: the last few seasons. You look at his numbers overall
- 52:11Speaker 1: and you go, Okay, he definitely took a downturn. But
- 52:13Speaker 1: for his career three thirty five goals, six d eighty
- 52:15Speaker 1: one points, nine hundred and thirty nine games, what's he
- 52:18Speaker 1: going to now? He's returning to his alma mater at
- 52:20Speaker 1: the University of Michigan. He'll serve as a special assistant
- 52:23Speaker 1: to the head coach there. You played against PATRIRETTI give
- 52:25Speaker 1: me your mad Max stories.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Congratulations, sir, great career. We will you rest easy now
- 52:35Speaker 3: we have the watch. We will see you in Valhalla.
- 52:40Speaker 3: No great, great career for him. And we had a
- 52:44Speaker 3: lot of good battles when he was in Vegas and
- 52:47Speaker 3: I was in Arizona. Obviously the team won, but us
- 52:50Speaker 3: personally had some good battles. I met him a few times.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Great guy, you know. So I think he's going to
- 52:55Speaker 3: be a very good coach for this team and a
- 52:58Speaker 3: special assistant. I think he's going to help these young kids.
- 53:01Speaker 3: I like seeing when the guys go back to their
- 53:02Speaker 3: alma mater, going back to University of Michigan and kind
- 53:06Speaker 3: of painted for it a little bit. So it's going
- 53:08Speaker 3: to be interesting to see. Can't wait. So congratcha fucking elations.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Do you think there's a chance to join us at
- 53:14Speaker 1: NHL Network. I mean, Tron's like's bringing people in maybe, I.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Mean, why not. We're at six hundred analysts, might as
- 53:20Speaker 3: well bring six hundred and one.
- 53:23Speaker 2: You never know well.
- 53:24Speaker 1: In addition to Max patch Ready also stepping away from
- 53:27Speaker 1: the game of hockey, Avalanche defenseman Eric Johnson announcing retired
- 53:30Speaker 1: from the game of hockey after seventeen seasons first overall
- 53:34Speaker 1: selection JD back in the six draft. He played over
- 53:36Speaker 1: a thousand games Blues, Avs, Sabers Flyers, dressed in fifty
- 53:41Speaker 1: seven career playoff games, including all twenty games in twenty
- 53:44Speaker 1: twenty two, helping Colorado win the Stanley Cup. Johnson saying,
- 53:47Speaker 1: after eighteen incredible years in the NHL, I'm retiring with
- 53:50Speaker 1: a heartfull of gratitude, of course, mainly known with the
- 53:52Speaker 1: Ads fourteen of his seventeen seasons of the Avalanche, only
- 53:55Speaker 1: Adam Foote played more seasons among Avalanche slash Nordique defenseman
- 54:00Speaker 1: onlyfoot In Joe Sakik among all Colorado Slash Quebec skaters.
- 54:03Speaker 2: So obviously below it there.
- 54:05Speaker 1: When you think about his career, what stands at to
- 54:07Speaker 1: you but egypt the native of Bloomington, Minnesota.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Bloomington, Minnesota. I just a great teammate, great player, you know,
- 54:14Speaker 3: a guy that stood the test of time, had a
- 54:17Speaker 3: great run, obviously culminating in a nice Cup win. With Colorado.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I think nobody was happier for him than that team.
- 54:24Speaker 3: And and you know, he's just he's just a fun
- 54:27Speaker 3: loving guy. He's one of those guys that you know,
- 54:30Speaker 3: you could see when he the NHL posts his retirement,
- 54:33Speaker 3: how many guys repost it and just call him a
- 54:35Speaker 3: legend and and say how great a guy. He was
- 54:37Speaker 3: just very fun, happy, you know, never taking himself for
- 54:41Speaker 3: the game too seriously. And you know a guy that's
- 54:43Speaker 3: a that's kind of a i'd say a renaissance man
- 54:47Speaker 3: a little bit. You know, look at Tyson Barry, guys
- 54:50Speaker 3: that have it's always fun to see guys that play
- 54:53Speaker 3: hockey that aren't just hockey players. Right. So he's got
- 54:55Speaker 3: the he loves the ponies, you know, he's horse race guy,
- 54:58Speaker 3: loves he owns some horses, I think, and just one
- 55:00Speaker 3: of those people that you know, the game doesn't define
- 55:03Speaker 3: him so and I think it's just a it's nice
- 55:07Speaker 3: to see the career he had in the length of time.
- 55:09Speaker 3: And it's always nice to see guys that when they
- 55:11Speaker 3: leave their they're beloved and and you know they left
- 55:14Speaker 3: the game in a better place than when it started.
- 55:17Speaker 1: But the horse is a common theme today aj loves
- 55:19Speaker 1: the Ponies and Josh Morris in our interview over his
- 55:22Speaker 1: shoulder a picture of a horse. So horses right now
- 55:25Speaker 1: in hockey, it's all coming together right now.
- 55:27Speaker 3: You see everything, You're like, yeah, that's your background in
- 55:32Speaker 3: film studies.
- 55:34Speaker 2: The attention to detail.
- 55:35Speaker 1: One of the thoughts I will say again, We're all Canadian,
- 55:37Speaker 1: but for all the American listeners, Johnson and Brian Bard
- 55:39Speaker 1: the only US born defenseman to be taken first overall
- 55:42Speaker 1: in the draft, and overall Johnson just a sixth number
- 55:45Speaker 1: one overall defenseman address and over a thousand games.
- 55:48Speaker 2: You play a thousand games at NHL. Hat tip to you.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if you play a thousand games in the NHL,
- 55:53Speaker 3: everybody could kiss your ass.
- 55:56Speaker 1: And one last thought here Florrie's final prank love the
- 55:59Speaker 1: taling flude of this, as mentioned in a previous episode,
- 56:02Speaker 1: Legendary goldtender Mark Andrew fleuries off one final time. Suiting
- 56:06Speaker 1: up for a Penguins preseason game Saturday against the.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Columbus Blue Jackets.
- 56:10Speaker 1: The retired Floory is serenated by chance from his home crowd.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Even got one final prank in against his Pittsburgh teammates,
- 56:15Speaker 1: placing number twenty nine and flower decals on all their
- 56:20Speaker 1: cars leading up to the final game. A great farewell
- 56:23Speaker 1: if here Lebron the athletic maintains that teams are gonna
- 56:25Speaker 1: come calling for him, said Lebron on x last Twitter.
- 56:28Speaker 1: I don't know what he will say, but I'm telling
- 56:30Speaker 1: you teams will call one hundred first off decal's on porsches.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Not a good idea. Do you think this is the
- 56:36Speaker 2: end we've seen from Mark Condrey to Florida?
- 56:38Speaker 3: I think so. I think unless something crazy happens and
- 56:41Speaker 3: it's like the perfect fit for him, like a couple
- 56:44Speaker 3: goalies go down on one team and you know, it's
- 56:47Speaker 3: in Minnesota or it's in Pittsburgh and he needs to
- 56:49Speaker 3: save the day. I think he would potentially do it,
- 56:52Speaker 3: but I don't know. I think I still don't believe it.
- 56:54Speaker 3: But you know, I love that the pranks. I love
- 56:58Speaker 3: that he pulled that off. I mean, he was a
- 57:00Speaker 3: prankster and I liked pulling pranks, and it was it
- 57:03Speaker 3: was a great great you know, I mean, he was
- 57:05Speaker 3: he was just he broke the mold and for athletes
- 57:10Speaker 3: of being serious versus you know, guys that could perform
- 57:13Speaker 3: but also could be happy, go lucky, and like be
- 57:16Speaker 3: fun and make jokes. And that was always a fun
- 57:19Speaker 3: thing for me because I tried to kind of tow
- 57:21Speaker 3: that line my whole career and he did it so
- 57:23Speaker 3: perfectly and obviously a way better, more story career than
- 57:27Speaker 3: I had, But it was just always fun to watch
- 57:29Speaker 3: a guy like that that just kind of was like,
- 57:32Speaker 3: it's his hockey guys like and just played it so
- 57:35Speaker 3: good for him. But I don't think. I don't think
- 57:37Speaker 3: he comes back. I think he's done.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Made more than enough money, He's played for long enough.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I mean, I don't understand why there would be some
- 57:42Speaker 1: sort of burning yearning desire for him to come back,
- 57:44Speaker 1: But we shall see. Thanks once again to Josh Morrisey
- 57:47Speaker 1: was fantastic Thanks to jd Intel Episode forty nine of
- 57:50Speaker 1: NHL unscripted Episode fifty Coming down the Pike once again
- 57:53Speaker 1: looking for some of proficient in thumbnails let us know.
- 57:56Speaker 3: And place you want. Do you want to prank my
- 57:59Speaker 3: last story prank?
- 58:00Speaker 2: Please?
- 58:01Speaker 3: I'll do my best prank before you go to sign
- 58:03Speaker 3: us off.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Best you did or prank that you did that went
- 58:07Speaker 1: horribly awry, like someone just didn't take it well.
- 58:10Speaker 3: Uh, that went horribly right. No. So the best one
- 58:13Speaker 3: I have was my first year in the miners in Wooster.
- 58:17Speaker 3: We had this kind of prank war with this house
- 58:20Speaker 3: and we came out of the rink one day and
- 58:22Speaker 3: they'd put a box of chicken wings, eating chicken wings
- 58:25Speaker 3: on our car in the middle of winter in Wooster.
- 58:28Speaker 3: So we went back to our house. I was meet
- 58:30Speaker 3: Derek Joslyn, Mike Moore, and Jamie McGinn, and we said,
- 58:36Speaker 3: we got to get these fucking guys. And we said,
- 58:38Speaker 3: what do you think we do? And I said, well,
- 58:40Speaker 3: I said what if we Because Mike Moore at the
- 58:42Speaker 3: time was injured, one of the guys in our house.
- 58:45Speaker 3: I said, We're going to go skate tomorrow at this rink.
- 58:47Speaker 3: You go into the room, you grab their house key,
- 58:51Speaker 3: go get it, run to a key store and get
- 58:54Speaker 3: it copied. So get their house key copied and we'll
- 58:57Speaker 3: figure out a time to break into their house. So
- 59:00Speaker 3: we ended up getting the copy of the key. We're
- 59:03Speaker 3: all skating that day, you know, and practice finishes and
- 59:06Speaker 3: Mike Moore walks back into the rink and he's like
- 59:08Speaker 3: giving us the thumbs up like he he got the key,
- 59:10Speaker 3: Like you got the copy of the key. We're good.
- 59:12Speaker 3: So we all sprint off the ice and we're like,
- 59:14Speaker 3: why don't we just do it now? So we drive
- 59:16Speaker 3: like mad men all the way to their house, break
- 59:19Speaker 3: into their house, and uh before they get home, and
- 59:22Speaker 3: we were like the night before, we're like, how do
- 59:25Speaker 3: we do this? Like we want to make this like
- 59:28Speaker 3: we want them to be like weirded out, but also
- 59:31Speaker 3: be like like what the fuck's going on? So we're like,
- 59:32Speaker 3: we took all their spoons, we we took all the batteries,
- 59:37Speaker 3: We took all the batteries out of all their remote controls,
- 59:41Speaker 3: all of their all their Xbox stuff. We took all
- 59:44Speaker 3: the light bulbs out that anywhere that had a light bulb.
- 59:47Speaker 3: We unscrewed the light bulb, took the light bulbs, and
- 59:50Speaker 3: then we so.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Nothing valuable, but very frustrating if.
- 59:53Speaker 3: It's not there, but frustrating and also like people think
- 59:56Speaker 3: like did somebody break in?
- 59:57Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 59:58Speaker 3: And then and then we, uh, what do we do?
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: We took we took one of the guys bed because
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: we're like, who's the dumbest guy that probably like jumps
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: onto his bed when he comes home. And we basically
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: flipped the box spring on top, and he just and
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: we made the bed with the box spring on top
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: of the mattress. Yeah, and then and then we walked out.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: So we had all that done. I think we did
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: some other shit. I can't even remember what it was,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: but it was like we were like lubing up door
