- 0:00Speaker 1: As we take you up until five o'clock. We're here
- 0:04Speaker 1: throughout the week this week, and so that's a good thing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You know, travel sometimes takes us away, but we are
- 0:12Speaker 1: here during the course of this week, and we have
- 0:16Speaker 1: a lot of our usual features and things that we've already.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We've already had some and we'll have more as the
- 0:20Speaker 1: week progresses. I we talked a little bit about the
- 0:28Speaker 1: college football scene and the Long Corns impending matchup with
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Clemson Tigers, and that is still twelve days off,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I guess, or eleven days off before they play on
- 0:41Speaker 1: December twenty first. But we heard from both head coaches
- 0:45Speaker 1: on Sunday after the announcement was made after the field
- 0:50Speaker 1: of twelve was revealed, and obviously it showed the matchup
- 0:57Speaker 1: for Texas and Clemson. And and we're going to hear
- 1:00Speaker 1: some more from Dabosweeney, the head coach of the Tigers,
- 1:03Speaker 1: here in a few minutes. But I did want to
- 1:08Speaker 1: get to a couple of things. The baseball Winter meetings
- 1:10Speaker 1: are going on, as we know. We had Gene Watson,
- 1:12Speaker 1: our MLB insider from the Chicago White Sox front office
- 1:17Speaker 1: on with us yesterday. So we were talking about the
- 1:24Speaker 1: one Sodo deal him leaving the Yankees to sign with
- 1:27Speaker 1: the Mets. It was really interesting the difference, say, in
- 1:36Speaker 1: Soto's contract and that of shoe Aotani's. Shoetani had a
- 1:42Speaker 1: ten year, seven hundred million dollar deal and Soto fifteen years,
- 1:47Speaker 1: seven hundred and sixty five million dollar deal. Now here's
- 1:50Speaker 1: the interesting thing. Otani's contract came with six hundred and
- 1:55Speaker 1: eighty million of the seven hundred million deferred money down
- 2:00Speaker 1: on the road. That, however, is not the case with Soto.
- 2:06Speaker 1: In Soto's case, every dollar will be paid to him.
- 2:10Speaker 1: The deal also comes reportedly with a huge signing bonus
- 2:17Speaker 1: as well, and something that will kick in during the
- 2:23Speaker 1: after the fifth year. So there's all kinds of upfront
- 2:28Speaker 1: of money and things like that that will be going on.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But there was one other thing. It wasn't just about
- 2:32Speaker 1: the money with one. So I don't know if you
- 2:34Speaker 1: heard this Storycam, but his decision to lead the Yankees
- 2:40Speaker 1: for the Mets. Yeah, money was involved. So was the
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yankee stadium security guard. Oh dude, tell well, there were
- 2:54Speaker 1: there were a lot of a lot of reasons. Apparently
- 2:57Speaker 1: he chose the Mets. John Hayman of the New York
- 3:01Speaker 1: Post that followed pretty closely. Yeah, there was seven hundred
- 3:04Speaker 1: and sixty five million reasons. Why, Well, I'll give you
- 3:08Speaker 1: a couple more. The Mets owner Steve Cohen had Sodo
- 3:12Speaker 1: come over to his mansion in Beverly Hills, and he
- 3:16Speaker 1: served him Latin food for lunch, showed him a film.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Didn't just do a PowerPoint thing. Showed him a film. Okay, yep,
- 3:23Speaker 1: showed him a film, and and Hayman, the writer wrote,
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Mets have excellent intelligence. They were aware that while
- 3:31Speaker 1: Sodo liked being a Yankee and loved having Aaron Judge
- 3:34Speaker 1: protect him in the lineup and lead them all in
- 3:36Speaker 1: the clubhouse, he was allegedly upset early in the year
- 3:40Speaker 1: by an overzealous Yankee security guy who disallowed a family
- 3:45Speaker 1: member and a chef slash driver from certain areas to
- 3:50Speaker 1: come in to the clubhouse. And apparently it wasn't the
- 3:54Speaker 1: only issue he had with the Yankees. Interesting he also
- 3:57Speaker 1: asked to have his own suite. He's denied that run back.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They balked at the idea of offering him a swite
- 4:07Speaker 1: in the deal. He said the fact that Aaron Judge
- 4:10Speaker 1: pays for his own sweet, and even Derek Jeter had
- 4:13Speaker 1: paid for his during the playing, they seemed to prevent
- 4:15Speaker 1: them from budgeting on the request Yankees like, look, Derek
- 4:20Speaker 1: Jeter paid for his own sweet. Aaron Judge pays for
- 4:23Speaker 1: his own sweet. We can't give you a swee okay,
- 4:27Speaker 1: all right, no problem to Mets. They gave him a
- 4:30Speaker 1: sweet without batting an eye. So is that? And more
- 4:34Speaker 1: friendly security guards and seven hundred and sixty five million dollars.
- 4:39Speaker 1: That's why Juan Soto will be a New York Met
- 4:42Speaker 1: and not a New York kick. Off the top of
- 4:45Speaker 1: your head, in terms of biggest free agency moves, like
- 4:49Speaker 1: shocking moves, what does this range? Because you have the
- 4:52Speaker 1: element of obviously the fifteen year contract, but also Craig
- 4:57Speaker 1: the element of him going from the Yankees to the
- 4:59Speaker 1: Met it's, you know, for the Mets of the Yankees. Hey,
- 5:02Speaker 1: that makes sense. It's it's the Yankees, right, But going
- 5:04Speaker 1: from the Yankees of the Mets is what that's like
- 5:08Speaker 1: big brother to little nephew. Yeah, it's different. For example,
- 5:12Speaker 1: if you could have made a greater Southern California comparison
- 5:16Speaker 1: to Otani from the Angels to the Dodgers. But that's
- 5:18Speaker 1: the step up reverse. Yeah, so I get what you're
- 5:21Speaker 1: saying there. It'd be like somebody going from the Giants
- 5:23Speaker 1: to the A's, yeah, you know, or the Cubs to
- 5:27Speaker 1: the White Sox. You know, it'd be that kind of thing. Also,
- 5:31Speaker 1: the money just continues to climb. I remember when Bryce
- 5:33Speaker 1: Harper elected to sign of the Phillies coming from Washington,
- 5:38Speaker 1: the fact that three hundred dollars was mentioned. It seemed like, like,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, an astronomically high number, and it is, by
- 5:45Speaker 1: the way, for monch of us in the regular world,
- 5:47Speaker 1: but not in baseball numbers now. And apparently you know
- 5:50Speaker 1: Otani sevener, Like I said, we're not that far away
- 5:52Speaker 1: from the first one billion dollar baseball player. It's gonna happen.
- 5:56Speaker 1: We're win the first billion dollar baseball player. Yep, yep,
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's it's definitely gonna happen. All right. Up next, we're
- 6:04Speaker 1: gonna hear from Dabosweeney, the head coach of the Clemson Tigers,
- 6:08Speaker 1: more on his thoughts about his team matching up with
- 6:10Speaker 1: the Texas Longhorns and the connections between the two. When
- 6:14Speaker 1: we continue on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone
- 6:16Speaker 1: of the iHeartRadio app
