- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Keeping It Relevant.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: It's Alex.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: It's John.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: And oh yeah.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I forgot.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: The other guy's not here.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: No, yeah.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: More important matters were under his attention.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: It's funny.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: You know what I think it is?
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: I think I think because he was um on the I don't see it happening bandwagon with the box office right now.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: I think he uh I think he felt like he needed to sit this one out.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Oh that could be could be true.
- 0:45unknown: Right.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Could be true.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: But unfortunately I'm all I was also on that bandwagon, so I'll take my whipping.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: I I think it was funny because I was proofing that episode the I think the day after I saw Spider-Man, and immediately I was like, this we are day one after Spider-Man, and this has not aged well already.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: So that's fair.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: But the math was mathing on our side to think that it wouldn't hit what it did.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Well, like yes and no, because so what I actually was listening to it recently, and by recently I mean like right before this episode recorded, just because I wanted to I'm getting ready to upload it, so I wanted to make sure everything was good, like the final cut.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Um and I didn't a movie I did not bring up, which we need to talk about actually, is last year's Superman.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: I thought we did talk about no, we talked about Supergirl in one episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: We talked about Supergirl in one episode, and then last episode when we well, last episode, I don't even know what the last episode is, actually, at this point, but we talked about um because I was talking about the Spider-Man projections and how it went from like 800 to like a billion to like almost two billion, and I was like, those were the things, but you were going on about like uh different uh comic book movies or superhero movies of the past a little bit.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: Well, last year, um last year Superman came out, and it's not called Superman Legacy anymore, it's just called Superman uh Box Office, and I know this is a very controversial thing when it comes to the Superman box office, uh, but worldwide it made six hundred and eighteen million dollars, and I think for what it was, uh especially being a reboot for the DC franchise in itself, as far as uh cinema media goes, I think six hundred and eighteen million dollars shows that um maybe not for DC, but for superhero movies as a whole, that people are still interested and people are still wanting to give superhero movies a chance, and then seeing uh how good of a movie, in my opinion, that Superman was for it to make that much money is crazy because that made more money than the last like I think five DC DC EU projects.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: So uh between that and then the trend of Spider-Man and then Deadpool and Wolverine the year before, I I I was that that's one of the big reasons why I said this movie has a potential making two billion dollars.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: I just went off of what Marvel's movies have done within the past two years, and based off of that, it didn't trend well.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: It it didn't for Marvel movies for movies as a if they were just movies as a whole, they did phenomenal.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: But unfortunately, because we talked about this in our universe episode, because of how we're um uh not programmed, but uh how we expect these movies to go, uh$500 million is low to a MCU movie, but if it was just a normal whatever movie, you'd be popping bottles of champagne at 500 million.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: So that's fair.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Also, we're gone on talking, and we haven't even said what we're actually talking about, by the way.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: So, um for relevance news, which is gonna be about what we're talking about, but um relevance news, uh Spider-Man made a billion dollars in four days, which was crazy.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: Um, no, it was five days.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, it made a billion dollars.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Four days was Avengers Endgame, and which again I'm like, oh, it's gonna make two billion because Avengers Endgame made two billion, anyways.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: Um, but it also became the highest grossing film of 2026 in seven days, which I think is wild.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: So um that's doing really good.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Uh The Odyssey last weekend finally made a billion dollars, which even though I had said it like many times in the past, this has potential to make a billion, the keyword in that is potential, and the same thing with Spider-Man.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: The keyword in that is potential.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: I wasn't quite sure because only three R-rated movies now.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Well, now only three R-rated movies before two R-rated movies have made a billion dollars, and that was uh The Joker with Joaquin Phoenix, and then uh Deadpool and Wolverine are the only R-rated movies that made a billion dollars.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: It chapter one came close with 755 million, I believe it was, and that's the highest grossing R-rated movie.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Uh that's a horror R-rated horror movie, um, or just horror movie in general, which is crazy, and I don't know if we'll ever get that again.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, unless, hold on, make a liar out of me.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: How much did Sinners make?
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Uh let me look real quick.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: It was a bit it was a lot.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, so here we go.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: Box office mojo.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: So Sinners only made$371 million worldwide.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: It chapter one.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Box office made it was almost$400 million.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: That's how yeah, and that's a and that and that let's not shy away.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: That is a lot, especially for a brand new IP and for a horror movie, and for you know, everything else.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Like that that is still a lot of money, and that is incredible.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Um, and it made Michael B.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: Jordan's worth go up a lot, and it uh won him an Academy Award.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: So sorry about that.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Um it chapter two made not uh made 702 million dollars, which is crazy.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: So for the Odyssey to then, you know, Oppenheimer came close being the first R-rated movie with uh or this yeah, with like 900 million, uh, but it didn't quite hit a billion.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Joker he made a billion, Deadpool Mover, he made a billion, and it's crazy because they are both comic book movies.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Um which is why I keep saying like I agree with John Campier, Robert Meyer, Burnett, and a few other people, where there's no such thing as superhero fatigue or comic book fatigue, it's uh mediocre fatigue because those two movies um they cared about those movies a lot, not just the director and the producers, but the people in the movies too.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: And they were great masterpiece movies, both of them.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: One a comedy, one a drama.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: And uh I I think that shows that people really do care about quality over quantity, which uh Bob Chapek and the old owner of uh Warner Brothers really didn't seem to understand.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: So um Odyssey is the third one, it's incredible, and uh I went I saw it over the weekend, and uh I went to the Alamo draft house to see that, and we I had to sit up front, which was crazy.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: But normal, yeah, it was sold out except for four seats up front.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: Now, normally I wouldn't sit up front, but two things.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: One, my wife wanted to go see it with me, and she's never seen it, so she's like, we're going.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: And we I've never been to the draft house, and she has, and she knows that I would love the Alamo since I'm a Cinephile, and I have to say, um, sitting up front wasn't that bad, and I'm so glad I went to not only see it a second time, but to also uh experience the Alamo.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: If you've never been to the Alamo, I know they're very scarce right now, but uh definitely go and watch go watch a movie at the Alamo and experience that.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Just something about being able to order food off of a menu and have them so gently to and and reverently just come out, give me what I need, and then sneak out was just an amazing experience.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: And uh this was in Nebraska, I think it's uh in La Vista, Nebraska.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: If you're in that area, definitely check it out.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: If you're a listener to the show, you know that my last experience with the movie in Nebraska um at the uh Twin Creek Marcus Theater up there was horrible.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Don't go to that theater.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: I still haven't put my review out for that yet, just because of how bad of an experience I've had.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: But go check out the Alamo, though.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: Um, also in recent news, we talked about wrestling.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: Um Rey Mysterio, uh, the general manager of AAA Wrestling, Lucha Libre.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: He talked to Roman Reigns, and there is a tournament now with the best luchadors in WWE SmackDown and Triple A Wrestling.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: They are going to compete these next few weeks instead um things, and uh the winner will face Roman Reigns September 12th for the WWE Heavyweight Champion at Triple A Triple Mania.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: So that's exciting.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: The first fight was yesterday, it was Lorado Kid versus Penta, and uh I didn't think Penta was gonna win, but he ended up winning.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: I don't think he's gonna win the tournament.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: I am not sure who I think is gonna win the tournament.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: I think it might be La Parca, to be honest, which is horrible to say because this Saturday is Psycho Clown versus La Parca.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Everyone knows I love Psycho Clown to death, and um I hope he wins.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: I hope Psycho Clown actually wins the whole thing to get this chance because he has come a long way to get to where he's at and to hopefully get a chance to get the championship.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: I don't think whoever gets to fight Roman Reigns is gonna win the championship, but I do like what Rey Mysterio is doing with WWE right now and uh having this be a chance for the luchadores.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Um and then last relevance, out of nowhere, Cancer Slug announced a US tour.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: They're actually going to be in St.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: Louis tomorrow, and I found out about the tour yesterday, so I'm obviously not going.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: I would have loved to have met up with Alex Story again after all these years, but that's not happening.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, other than that, uh oh, the Warner Brothers dudes go look up the Warner Brothers Paranout fiasco.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: I'm not even caught up yet on that news.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: And oh my gosh, they need to make a movie about this.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: This is wild.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: There is no way the merger is happening anymore.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: It's probably already been confirmed that it's not happening anymore.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: But holy crap, Alex, if you know nothing about this, you need to do research because this this is literally movie material with the Paramount and Warner Brothers fiasco.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Um I I don't know.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: There's so many moving parts with it, though.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: That's the hard part about it.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: There is, and I do need a shout out to John Campia for keeping everyone up to date with that because it's hard for the show.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, so I'm glad it didn't for sure.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: I'm glad it didn't happen.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Screw Paramount.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: Okay, so say Avatar was released in theaters, would you still have the same feeling?
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: No, I wouldn't.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: He goes, he goes, no, so everything else, even the conspiracies of trying to get a monopoly or masopoly or whatever it's called of uh the industry, but also news, that's all whatever because of Avatar, yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 100%.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: You're an honest man, Alex, and I can only respect that.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: I like that about you.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Um they did Avatar so wrong it wasn't even funny.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: I still haven't seen it.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: I know he have.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: It's so good and it's beautiful animation and the artwork.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Even the voice cast got screwed out of it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Did um was the story good?
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Was it able to follow the story?
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the story's super predictable, but like it's Avatar.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: There's all like they did it in a way because they had to like keep in mind of at Atla with Aang, and then Avatar Korra, uh, the legend of Korra, and like there's already stuff precedented in that along with other stuff via comic books and graphic novels, and they magically wove this tale in between all of that to where it made sense.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: The only part I can say that doesn't make sense is that if you do math and the timeline, technically Katara and Aang are supposed to be married by now, and Boomy is supposed to be a thing, but it's okay.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Like, it's it's around that time.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can accept that.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, I I just haven't seen it yet, and and uh I was not talking directly in the mic.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Uh I just haven't seen it yet.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: I can suspend my disbelief for the timelines though, because I'm not 100% on the timelines.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: I've only I still haven't seen uh Last Airbender all the way, and I've only seen the first season or two of Korra.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah, like I do I will say they're coming out with a new TV show, and it's the next Avatar that's in the cycle.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: And you can go watch the trailers right now.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: I think it's called the Seven Heavens.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Avatar the Seven Heavens.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Do they actually have the trailer out?
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they do.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: And like I can't tell if I like the animation style.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Like, I get where they took it.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: It's just for me, I don't know if I like that art style.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: But it makes sense.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Like, they're about to do Cora dirty, or at least at the beginning of this show, they are.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Because apparently she's oh yeah, apparently, like the thing is that like there's a great cataclysm, and the whole world doesn't like the avatar anymore because Cora caused the cataclysm.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: That's that's hilarious.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: But I think that's a red herring.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna like say that it was her fault, and then the avatar goes on to figure out that, like, oh, it wasn't her.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: Just be like, it'd be like this is your fault, and then it was just like, well, maybe it wasn't.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: And then and then they go, Well, it's actually Aang's fault.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: We find out I was like, oh my gosh.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: It's everyone's fault.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Um also the movie did confirm to me.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Airbenders, if they weren't nomads, they would be OP.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I believe that.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: Fetch.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: Like, it just kind of confirmed because like the bad guy in there was an airbender, and spoiler alert, and uh dude's a little nuts.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Also, he's voiced by Dave Batista.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: What?
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: What?
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I it threw me off too.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: I was like, man, that sounds familiar, and then he said one other word, and I was like, oh, that's Batista.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: So did you do you watch the Netflix live action show?
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: No, I do not.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: They chopped up so much stuff in that that I don't like it.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Because I know, I know I and I think it's only because people are comparing to the M Knight Shyamalan one.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: I know a lot of people are liking it.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: And they're saying like if it's your first introduction to it, then fine.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: But like for all the Atla fans there were, like, seeing this chopped-up version of it, it changes some aspects of the story that like I as an Atla fan didn't like.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Like I'm sure if you like weren't introduced to the cartoon, like it's completely fine at that point to start there, but like not my thing.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Now, I'll argue and say I like the one piece live action because I'm not sitting there and watching 1,500 episodes of One Piece.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: So that that's the thing.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Is that normal with anime to be like a million episodes?
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: No, no, that's like its own thing.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: Cause like that, that's why I fell off of Attack on Titan.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Cause I was like, what I can't, I think I was on episode 15 or something like that.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: And um, and I was like, man, like how much longer do I have in the season?
- 19:05SPEAKER_03: And it was like 50 episodes, and I was like, I'm not doing this, no.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Like, and then I mean, because even even uh Death Note, the other anime I saw all the way, that was that was a lot.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: And they broke them up into like seasons.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: One piece only has one season, and it's 1500 episodes.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Is how many episodes is it?
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Like, actually.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: I swear if it's actually 1500, then there's something wrong.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: How many episodes is one piece uh season one?
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: 61 episodes.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: That's not right.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Is it more or less?
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Do you think?
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: It's more.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: There it's way more than that.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: That was Google AI.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: That is insane how I say the word 61, and you're like, it's gotta be more.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: One piece anime has aired 1170 episodes since October 1999.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: 101 Oh, what the heck?
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, because it aired without season breaks.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: Okay, so is that is that why it's saying 61?
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Because like technically, technically, if you were to break it up, season one would be 61 episodes.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Yes, but they never officially did it that way.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: It was all just all continuously one season.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Like the season itself just ended.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: They ended it with 1,173 episodes.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: I I legit don't know how I feel about that.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm pretty sure you're nowhere close to figuring out like the one piece.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: What what what is the one piece?
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Like, what does that mean?
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: I that's that's the whole point of the show.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: I know people are really liking the live action though.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: They say it's really good.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Like, I know One Piece originals are probably like, no, it's not the same, and then everything else with it, but like not my thing.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: I like the short, simple version.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: That's oh man.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: But let's move back to these billion dollar movies since we have.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I got nothing else relevant.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, wait, uh AMC stock 250.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: Anyways,$2.50.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: That's that's the last relevant thing I got so far.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: So but moving back to the billion dollar movies, me and you went and saw Avatar, or not Avatar.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Yes, the last Avatar Odyssey and Spider Man.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: And I don't think me and you've actually sat down and talked to like Good, bad, and ugly of each one, yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, fetch.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I could definitely I could definitely do that.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Um let's do the Odyssey since it came out first.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: Um do you who you go first?
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: I go first.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, you said it was a perfect movie.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: That's almost fair.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Like the only thing I can think of is like little critiques here and there on it, but I honestly think it's gonna win best picture.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Like I 100% see it winning.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: I thought I thought I was going between it and Dune 3, and when I got out my first showing, I was like, Dune 3's got nothing on this.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: I haven't even seen Dune 3 yet.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know anything about Dune 3.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: I could already tell you it's got nothing on the Odyssey.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: It's great, and the way they actually adapted the book into this with more of a modernized take was great.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: I I spoiler alert, I'm gonna spoil some of things.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Like one of my favorite scenes, and the person I saw it with, he didn't even catch up on it.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: But this whole time when Odysseus is dealing with the guilt that's manifesting from Athena, and you see Athena this whole time, and then at the very end, when you finally get to see like what happened in Troy, and the Athena he's been imagining was Athena's priestess that got beheaded, yes, uh uh in Troy.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Jeff's kiss on actual storytelling because I don't think the guy I saw picked up on it at all, but I was like, that's cool.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: You just that whole back thing back around and put a period on it.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: When when I saw that, my first initial reaction was I think it was interesting and poetic that Athena took the form of the woman that got beheaded.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Where the uh manager at AMC, he was like, Oh, I didn't even think about that.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: Because what he was thinking was that the woman that got beheaded was Athena because of the running Zeus's law and having wise eyes, and you never know who's a goddess in disguise.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: And then Odysseus talking about how he broke Zeus's law, he interpreted it as that actually was Athena in disguise, which is why she looked like that.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Uh that's an interesting I don't necessarily believe that take on it.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: No, you're not about that take.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: No, I like the take, like your take or my rendition of the take was is that his subconscious guilt manifested over this for so long that Athena just man like his guilt manifested in that hallucination the whole time.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: Like she took the form of that woman.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, and that's what I like to think of it as because Odysseus even before that Trojan horse happened, he was revered as being like very fair, loyal, and by uh keeping up with the rules.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, like like he like like the the blind uh pig herder said because he was like, Oh, you served under Odysseus.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: He goes, Yes, he was a very strict man, and then he goes, but fair.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: And and uh you you did get a huge sense of who Odysseus is, at least in this rendition.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: And what's crazy is that so I've never read the book, but uh I know a lot of people that have, and they had said that in the book, um, Odysseus is the one that says that, like, oh, I'm the greatest man out there, and they thought it was interesting that in this movie it's other people that are saying that, and for me that was great because at the end, when you see that all these people, including his wife and his son, after 20 years, are like my father and my husband's a great man, and then the reveal we're the people from the sea, or I'm the person from the sea that broke Zeus's law, I think was very again poetic.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: And and for me, that reveal really hit me hard because the whole movie, I'm like, everyone's using these incredible adjectives for Odysseus, just for him to be like, I'm the people from the sea.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's the Greek tragedy of the book.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, like that's the whole point.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: It's like it starts off as a comedy and then morphs into a tragedy.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: Which, by the way, this was not a comedy, this was like a horror movie, not yeah, not a comedy in like the western sense, like the western modern sense, a comedy as in like a Greek comedy, meaning like the story itself.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: No, definitely, definitely.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: I I really appreciate how each adventure was like a horror or a thriller.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: And uh I thought it was very like one of the scenes that like almost grossed me out was when Cersei used her magic on the troops, and like like seeing her just like take their skin and like bold it into clay was just super, super gross, and it did not help that the whole time you could hear them like eating, and I think that was the main point of the why I thought it was so gross.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, not only eating, and I I somehow I didn't see this the first I actually I do know why I didn't see this the first time watching it because I was terrified the first time watching it, but the second time watching it, you you saw that the soldiers couldn't stop eating, and you could see the terror in their in their full mouths and in their eyes of what they're witnessing and what's about to happen to them.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, I told my wife, I was like, because she she's read the book and she's listened to the musical and everything like that, so she was really excited to watch this.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: And I was like, hey, just so you know, the scene with Cersei, I don't know how you picture it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna tell you what happens, but it made every werewolf transformation I've seen in cinema look like child's play.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, it it was super gross looking.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: I will conf admit to that.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: It it terri it legit terrified me.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: I was like, I I was so unsettled, I was uncomfortable, but it was also at the same time amazing how Christopher Nolan was like, This is how we're gonna do it.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it 100%.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Like, and I forgot this part in the movie, uh, like not in the movie, but in the book.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: But the movie reminded me of it was uh I forgot that when Melius got Helen back, he scarred her.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: So apparently I I heard and I looked this up.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Apparently, that actually wasn't in the book.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: I thought it was because I was sitting there thinking about it, and I was like, well, maybe it wasn't.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: I just meant like completely forgot about it.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: No, no, it wasn't in the book.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: That was a Christopher Nolan special, but I really enjoyed that Christopher Nolan special because and it it was never said that John Berthall's character did it, it was highly insinuated, and Christopher Nolan was like, yeah, no, he did it, and it was like a punishment to her of like everything that was done basically in her name, but also so that no other man would steal her again.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: So that's that's why he added that, and I think that was a great uh Christopher Nolan special right there.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Uh 100%.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Now I the one that I have on this whole movie, and I think I think it's because I've seen other Odyssey renditions of it, the end fight scene when Odysseus reveals himself and like manifests Zeus's law.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Whenever he's taking on the suitors, too many suitors.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Like I get it's supposed to be a lot of suitors, but even after he reveals himself, not all of them are gonna be brass enough to attack him.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: And I think it suffers by having everyone do it, and that's just how I look at it as.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: I think it would have been better if you just took Robert Pattinson's crew and like added like three or four other ones that were kind of on the outside looking in with them, and do them the ones that he slaughters to prove his point.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: I I would agree with that if in the beginning when Tom Holland asks the blind man, he says, Hey, what what do you think my dad would do if he sees only suitors here?
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: And the reply was, I don't even want to think about what your dad would do to these suitors.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Then he actually said he would slay those that were brave enough to fight him and spare whoever feared him, and that's exactly what happened.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Well, see, I would agree with that, but I think it was too many didn't fear him.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: Like, I thought I thought as I think I think a lot of people feared him because uh because even if you watch it, like, yeah, like a good amount of people are attacking him, but a lot of people are just sitting there idle, either waiting for what they feel is their chance, or just watching, and then you started to see people one at a time start to bow down to Odysseus, realizing that no one could overpower him.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: And I don't think you would have gotten that full sense of no one could overpower him if it was only just a handful of suitors.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: I okay, I can see that.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'm just misinterpreting how many people were actually involved in that fight.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: I uh I will admit, be because of what I went through being just in complete awe of the movie and being so locked into it the first time, watching it the second time I was able to see other details like that.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: Like I missed I thought I absorbed everything, I missed so many details I didn't notice until watching it the second time.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: So that's fair.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, I I think I because I I don't think you're wrong at I and I know this is all subjective, I don't think you're wrong in anything that you're saying about the Odyssey or your critique with the suitors or anything like that.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: I but like I just encourage you and other people that might agree with you to go watch it again and let me know let me know what you think because you're definitely cu I mean I was I was locked in on the screen.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you were that way or not.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: No, I was now the one thing that uh the other thing that I would critique, I know I don't know if this was more on Ann Hathaway's interpretation or maybe Christopher Nolan directing it towards her scenes with uh not Theseus, Tom Holland's character, yeah, yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I can't think of his real name, but uh Tom Holland's character.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: But some of the times I was watching that and I was like, this almost doesn't feel like a uh mother-son relationship, and I don't know if that's because he was gone for those 20 years, if that played into it, I don't know.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: I yeah, I could my critique on that is just it just didn't feel like a mother-son relationship.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I could I could see where where you would say that.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't say it was a mother-son relationship where it was a mother trying to turn her son into a man relationship.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: I I think I think everything she did was out of love, but it clearly wasn't what we would interpret as a excuse me, as a mother-son relationship.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't I don't think that's what what it was.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: And I don't I don't even know if that was an Ann Hathaway thing or if that was more of a Christopher Nolan thing.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I said, I don't I don't know if it was her interpretation of the material or if it was the way that Christopher Nolan wanted it to come across.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but that makes me want to watch it again and actually pay attention to their relationship more now than other things.
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: Honestly, any excuse to go watch the Odyssey again for me, I'm I'm not even gonna lie about that.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: My biggest critique, my biggest critique is at is at the same time kind of a compliment, where the first like 20-30 minutes is so boring and just non-engaging or intriguing, and I get they're like setting, especially for a three-hour movie, like they're setting it up, and then and then the second they get to the Cyclops Cave, it's it's all hands on deck because holy freaking crap, that scene's amazing.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: Um, but the way I describe it to people though, is that's the ride, so that's that's the line to get to the roller coaster.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: If you've ever been to like Six Flags or Disney or Universal, you know anything more than like 10 minutes feels like for freaking ever waiting to get on a ride, especially a ride that you're really looking forward to, and then the second you get on that ride and then it's done, you're willing to go through that 30 minutes again just to experience that.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: That's the beginning of the movie.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: I tell people it's the it's the line to get on the ride, and then it's the ride, and then you go, I'll definitely go through that again just to get on that ride again.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: And uh I felt the same way the second time watching it.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: I was like, man, I just need to get past this beginning 20 minutes because the second we get to the cyclops, I know it's good.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: The second they got to that island, I was like, buckle the flip up, let's go.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: So that's my only that's my only critique.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: I I never read the book.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: I know a lot of people say they're really upset they didn't do the whole nobody thing, but it made sense with the story that Christopher Nolan told for them not to do it.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I if he called it so it with that scene, I was kind of waiting for it to happen the way it did, but the way they set up Polythemus was not the same way it was in the book at that point.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: So I was like, Yeah, I don't think he's gonna do it.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: And the way he did it, I was like, Yeah, that there's no reason for him to say that because they established very uh on in the cave that that cyclops couldn't talk, or he wouldn't talk there.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: That's probably the better way of saying that.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because he was because he was like, How come I never talked before?
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: And Odysseus goes, Do you talk to ants?
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's like what it was.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: I was like, that's why it makes sense.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: Um that scene was amazing.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: I can't think of a scene that I I didn't like.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: The acting was incredible, even down to Travis Scott, he was only in it for like 10 minutes, literally, if that, and even he just nailed his character perfectly.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Like there wasn't one bad actor or actress in it.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: And I have to say, especially after watching so watching the Odyssey, then watching Spider-Man, then watching the Odyssey again, Tom Holland and John Bernthal have that on-screen chemistry magic that I am not getting tired of seeing.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: No, they play well off of each other, particularly in the next movie we're we're gonna talk about.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: I think I would well we'll we'll let's just switch to that.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Odyssey, go see it.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Two thumbs up.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna win the Oscars this year.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: Honey, so let's take that take that note, and I'm gonna say a bold take.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: John Berthaw stole that movie from Tom Holland and Spider-Man.
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: Oh, fetch.
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: Let me hold on, let me think about that.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Um you know, I'm gonna go watch Spider-Man again uh probably next week.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be the last uh summer uh Fiesta we do before school starts.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take my kids.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna pay, I'm gonna think about that when I go and watch it again.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: Because I don't I don't think he stole, in my opinion, he didn't steal the movie, he was the the sour cream accent on top.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I think he stole almost every scene that they're in together, just stole the scene.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: Man, but he did that, but like I don't know, because they did so good together.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, are we are we doing spoilers on yeah?
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: We already spoiled Odyssey.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: We're gonna spoil Spider-Man.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: Well, like the thing is about the Odyssey is that that story is like almost 3,000 years old.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: Like, if you don't know the Odyssey from one way or another, that's kind of wild.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: We're like brand new day is kind of original, actually, when it comes to tell you what, I'm okay spoiling it because it's all it's over it right now, it's at 1.6 or 1.7, depending where you look, billion dollars.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: It's gonna hit 2 billion.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: Everyone's already seen it.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Theaters are still sold out for it.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: If you haven't seen, especially when this comes out like three or four weeks from now, if you haven't seen Spider-Man yet, that's on you.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: That's I well, I don't know your situation, but spoilers for Spider-Man.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: That being said, this isn't much of a spoiler because we already knew this from uh Comic-Con.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, the scene where the Punisher and Spider-Man fight the incredible Hulk is incredible.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: No pun intended.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: I think that's I think that's a great scene, but it is definitely capitalized when you realize that Sadie Sink took control of Punisher's mind, and right when Peter starts fighting him by himself, and uh when the Hulk goes into Savage Hulk, not Professor Hulk, and uh he's holding all those grenades and he looks over at Peter and in his feminine feminine voice goes, Hmm, good luck with that, Peter, and just starts.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: The hilarious that just set the tone for me right then.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: That that is a so I have more critiques on Spider-Man than I do on Odyssey.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: Not saying Spider-Man isn't also a flipping amazing movie, and yeah, it's my least favorite.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: Surprise, I'm in the huge minority in this, it's my least favorite out of the Tom Holland movies, which doesn't mean anything because they're all top-tier movies.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: So this is my least favorite top-tier movie, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, out of three other top tiers.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: And no, uh, far from home is not my favorite.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: Actually, uh, actually, yeah, far from home is my favorite.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Not no it goes, it goes far from home, homecoming, no way home, brand new day for me.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: Um, but you're also talking to the guy who likes Iron Man 2 over Iron Man 1.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: So like I I understand where I'm at with Marvel movies.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: So like I apologies that I have weird taste in them.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but that's beyond the point.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: I have to say though, my one of my biggest critiques of Brand New Day was it was like, all right, you go fight the Hulk, I go fight Gene, and then he's like, hey, stay 33 feet away, gotcha, immediately like closer than 33 feet.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: And I was like, what what the flip was that?
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: Well, that's because so that plays into like the punisher.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Punisher, you don't tell the punisher what to do.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: I want to do whatever I want.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but like, no, yes, but I understand that, and but there was for me, there was no suspense of disbelief in that scene because when he was he realized he was out of his element helping out Peter fight the Hulk, and he took what Peter said seriously when he said, Don't be 33, yeah, make sure you're 33 feet away.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: So for me, I was because Punisher isn't reckless, Frank Castle isn't reckless, and like, but it was like right away, it was like, I'm gonna be reckless to shoot this girl in the face to prove a point.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: I'm like, no, I don't think he would have done that.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: I don't think the Punisher would have done that.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: And I'm a huge thing.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: No, but I think he I think he underestimated the the girl, is what it was.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: I didn't look at it as that.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: I I agree with you, but I think it they could have shown the underestimation a bit less.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Cliche, I guess.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: Um that's fair.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: But I mean, but that again, that's just me.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: My my I'm gonna get this over with.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: I I really because I'm sure some people are like, what the flick flip critiques do you have with uh Spider-Man?
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: My biggest critique, and I have been told I'm wrong by so many people, but I would love to hear your take on this.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: Uh my biggest critique of the movie nothing big or life-changing happened to Peter Parker in this movie.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: The first movie, he grew up, he lost the suit, learned from Tony Stark, and took and turned down the Avengers.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: The second movie was Mysterio, Nick Fury, How to Be Spider-Man, but not, also keeping it a secret from MJ, and then at the end, Mysterio with the identity.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: And then in the last movie, and I saw the last movie before I went in, and I feel like that was a mistake because the last movie, of course, he had the multiverse, but he chose to be forgotten, and then he chose not to tell MJ or Ned.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: These are all life-changing events that shows the growth of Peter Parker from when he is a high school kid to now, and I don't think anything happened in this movie to actually show the growth of Peter Parker.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, it was.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: So I think by the way, I'm all I'm all ears, by the way.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: I would love to hear.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: The whole movie, the whole movie was closure for a girlfriend he no longer had.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: It was closure for that, though.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: He could have gone to therapy for that.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: He's broke.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: The whole thing.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: You no, he's not.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Did you see all the tech he had?
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: He's not broke.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: He does it.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: He's broke.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Heek McGivers, all that they set that up in the uh civil war that he dumpsters for all his technology.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: Okay, no, no, no, hold on.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: I understand he dumpst for that, but he had like Tony Stark level technology there, and he has no longer have any access to Avenger stuff or to Tony Stark stuff.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: How did he have all of that stuff in there?
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: And then you tell me he's broke.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: He I think he's smart with his money, I think he lives within his means.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: But I feel like therapy, I feel like therapy could have also who who is he gonna be who's who is he gonna be able to tell all that to?
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: He doesn't need to be like, I'm Spider-Man and I lost my no, he just has to be like I lost a girlfriend and I don't know how to hand and I don't know how to handle that.
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: No, and there's another big part in that too.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, and his best friend and his aunt, who was his caretaker.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: I feel like he could have talked this all out and worked through it like healthy instead of also you can't get normal people to go to therapy in this day and age.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: You really think you're gonna get a Spider-Man to go to it?
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, someone as smart as Peter Parker, absolutely.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: Especially, especially since he was like, you guys do yoga, it's really good for you.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so is therapy, dude.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Go to therapy.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: By the way, PSA, go to therapy if you're going through stuff, anyways.
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: Just gonna throw that out there, anyways.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: I'm not and that's the I'm not like advocating for therapy, I'm just saying for like this character, like the whole the whole movie to me was just him getting closure.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: And I understand as audience members, uh yeah, some of us probably did want closure, but and and again, this is where it's subjective.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: Like for me, I didn't need that closure.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: I wanted to know what's next for Spider-Man.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: I want to know why he's in space at the end of the movie.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: We don't know that we don't know if that's I want to I I understand that.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: I understand that.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: I want to know, like, like like what's what yeah, why what's next for him?
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: Literally, like, yes, secret wars is what's next, and he's in space again.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: I get that.
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: The incursions and everything like that.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: But other than that, like he's still at where he began just with closure.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: He's who he was in the beginning of the movie was still who he was at the end.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: But he's not, he's more he's happier now, which is why because he had closure, but he could have gotten that through therapy.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: No one he wouldn't when you're that depressed.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: That's not the thing that you're thinking of right then.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: No, I literally drowned.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: Boy, trust me, do I understand that?
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: He literally drowned himself in work to the point where he chemically imbalanced his arachnid DNA and started mutating.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: That's my second problem with the movie.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: Again, by the way, full disclosure, great movie.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: I cannot wait to watch it again.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: I own all the Spider-Man movie, including into the Spider-Verse, and I cannot wait to own this one and to watch it whenever I want.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: I need people to know that.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: I'm not hating on this movie.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: So many people are like, I don't know why you're hating on this movie.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: It's a great movie.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: Go watch it.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm one of the advocates for it to be$2 billion.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: Go watch the movie.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: But that's my second problem with the movie.
- 49:34SPEAKER_03: The whole plot, the whole subplot was he's going through arachnid puberty.
- 49:39SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: I was so interested in that until at the end, actually before that, till he's holding Zendaya and is like, I could finally web, even though three seconds prior he couldn't.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: I understand.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: Precious cargo, I wasn't a good driver until I had a family.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: I understand.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: I could get away with that.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Fine, I could drive with that.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: But at the end, where he's going through, he doesn't know how to control arachnid puberty, and then all he had to do was take a deep breath, and then he's got it figured out.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: First of all, that sounds a little therapeutic to me.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: And second of all, you're gonna tell me he didn't he he couldn't just take a deep breath and be like, all right, I gotta figure it out.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: Like, what the crap was that?
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying like kind of makes sense because he got the closure at the end and all that jazz.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, actually, okay, hold on.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: You gave me something to think about.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: I actually just sat up in my chair, actually.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: You said that.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Um he did have closure.
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: He was able to protect MJ and Ned, and he had to save he didn't just have to save damage control, but he had to save MJ too.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, he finally had purpose.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, hold on, okay.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, no, all right, all right, you know what?
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: I I think my mind's been changed from that.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: And then because of that, he was able to stop the bullet.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, cuz he cause yeah, because he he was he was alone again, and he knows what to do, and he's alone.
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: Alone as in like he doesn't have the police force with him or anything.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: He has Frank Castle, but he knows Frank is trying to figure out uh his end of things.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: He knows he has to save two people, one from themselves and one from the person that's about to kill them.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: Ninjas, of I mean, but ninjas that explains itself right there.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: And he finally has closure with his best friend and his ex-girlfriend.
- 52:03SPEAKER_03: So then he just had to take a deep breath and go for it, which I have actually had to do in my life.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: Okay, you know what?
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: I don't have a problem with that anymore.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: I think I can drive with that.
- 52:15SPEAKER_03: Okay, yes.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: Alright, I only have one critique then, and that's uh nothing big happened.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: So uh I think everything I think big things did happen.
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: It's just it's not for this movie.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: Like we got introduced to uh no, is it Wesker?
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: Not Wesker, that's Resident Evil.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Uh oh my gosh.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: The one who killed Gene's sister.
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: What's that dude's name?
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: I cannot think of it.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: Who killed the sister, the head of damage control?
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: I have no idea.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: Well, anyway, he's that he eventually becomes the head of uh the mutant uh task force.
- 53:07SPEAKER_02: The MRD, mutant registration department.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: I thought Stryker was the head of that.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Stryker does uh weapon X and uh he does another thing too, though.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: He does Weapon X and anyway.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: It the MRD is that guy, and Trask is the one who invents the Sentinels.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: But uh also Spider-Man created the inhibitor chip that is gonna go on the X-Men's.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: I didn't even yeah, I get I didn't even gather that.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: So I can't I can't wait to watch this movie again.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: It's such a good time.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: It's funny, dude.
- 53:45SPEAKER_03: It is fun and funny.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, and I also think Gene Gray's on her way to upstate New York.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, hundred percent.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: When I saw that, I was like, uh, so the whole time I was watching with our friend Josh Beasley, and uh the whole time, like when we were watching Gene Gray, like especially in the flashback, and she's like, Man, I wish I could control people in the further distance or or more than one more than one person at once, and her sister's like, Don't worry, with a few practices, like like with a bit of practice, you will one day.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: And I just look at Josh and I go, uh, yeah, well, about that.
- 54:30SPEAKER_03: Um, and then and then when she was like getting her powers and they're like, She's becoming more powerful, and I was like, Oh, yeah, about that.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: And I was like, We're just watching Anakin Skywalker here, uh, allegedly.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: Um I was like, it doesn't end up things don't end up good for her.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: And my wife was like, at the end of the movie, she's like, Why did you keep making those comments?
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh, you don't know?
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: Oh, I was like, Boy, do you have a lot to catch up on?
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: So actually, I have volume one and two of the X-Men Encyclopedia.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: Um, so I was like, Hey, here's what the Phoenix is, and here's who Gene Gray is.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, have fun with reading that.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: And she was like, Oh, oh no, and I was like, Yeah, yeah.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying Punisher still's the end because of what he does in the hospital.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: You know, technically, I saw this meme.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: John Berthal is like the fourth person to portray Spider-Man.
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, technically, yes, technically, yes, and that is the best kind of yes.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: What did you think about the Hulk?
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: I'm glad we reverted back to Savage Hulk.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: I was tired.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: Like, I Professor Hulk made sense for what it was doing, and I'm glad we are back into Savage Hulk mode.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, endgame um Professor Hulk made 100% sense for Endgame.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: I was kind of off of the Bruce Banner bandwagon because I was like, what the flip is this crap?
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: But I do like that they brought it back.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: I felt so bad for him at the end though.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: When he saw him in the hospital and he was just like crying because he knew he went full savage.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: See, I'm I get it, and I'm glad they did that though, because it's gonna set up so much more because like the Hulk can't die.
- 56:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, uh that was another thing I was explaining to my wife.
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: I was like, uh, the crazy thing about Savage Hulk and Bruce Banner is that when they work together as Professor Hulk, uh the incredible Hulk cannot reach his full potential, and Bruce Banner can't reach his full potential with Braun strength and brawn smarts.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: So the fact that they're separate now, I'm hoping that they can play into that more because they showed that with Savage Hulk when he got more muscular and bigger, and Peter was like, I didn't know you could get that big, which I thought was hilarious.
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I really hope they show that uh they cannot coexist.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: But I also told my wife, I was like, by the way, there's a point in the story where Bruce Boehner dies of old age, so it's just the Hulk.
- 57:29SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: And and that doesn't go well for the Hulk either, because Bruce Banner's dead and he misses Banner, and Banner was kind of his guy, and now who do you have controlling the Hulk?
- 57:42SPEAKER_03: Nobody.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: So Yeah, but overall, I love both these movies.
- 57:48SPEAKER_02: I think they're great renditions for the summer.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: Yes, I think uh I think we mentioned before that um box office numbers are coming back, and I think after these two movies it shows that we have five movies that are a billion dollars.
- 58:04SPEAKER_03: I know we were gonna talk about that, but I think we're short on time.
- 58:07SPEAKER_03: But uh I'll just name them off right now.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Uh Mario Galaxy, which everyone knew was going to make a billion.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: Uh Toy Story 5, which I don't know about you, I knew it was gonna make a billion.
- 58:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know how what you thought about that.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: I figured it would.
- 58:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: Just being Toy Story.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: We have The Odyssey, which recently made a billion, which uh I'm not surprised, but I also wasn't sure if it was gonna hit it.
- 58:37SPEAKER_03: We have um Spider-Man, which is now the highest grossing movie of all time, well, uh of 2026, and uh what's the fifth movie?
- 58:49SPEAKER_03: I can't remember the fifth movie.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: Spider-Man Odyssey Toy Story.
- 58:56SPEAKER_03: Uh oh my god, we just Michael, Michael, Michael, there we go, Michael, which by the way, nobody's talking about this, and this needs to be talked about.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: I think I'll talk about it more next episode.
- 59:09SPEAKER_03: Um, Michael, so not only is the Odyssey the third R-rated movie, R-rated movie in cinematic history to reach a billion dollars, Michael is the first biopic, musical biopic, to reach a billion dollars.
- 59:28SPEAKER_03: And that is incredible.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: I great movie, though.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: Incredible movie.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: I love that movie.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: My only critique of that movie, I'll talk about later because we don't have time for that.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: Fair it is a great movie.
- 59:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know why I don't own it yet.
- 59:45SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll probably buy it sometime within the next little bit.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: Uh love it.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: You you saw it, right?
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: Yes, I did.
- 59:53SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: Great movie.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: It was great.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: So we got we have five movies in the billion dollar club this year.
- 59:59SPEAKER_03: We're already halfway through the year.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_03: We still have Dune, part three, and doomsday coming up.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: So we know we have at least two more coming.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_03: Um, let's, I mean, we have a few other uh End of Oak Street comes out this week.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: I cannot wait to see that.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: I don't think it'll be a billion dollars, but who knows?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_03: Uh probably 700 million.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_03: That's the thing.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_03: The next one in line is Devil Rose Prada 2.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: That's like 656 million, and then Project Hail Mary, which is like four million dollars beneath that.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, we just we just 2026 is what 2025 should have been for cinema, but that's neither here or there.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_03: I am a little concerned about next year.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_03: Now, if the box offices keep doing great stuff and keep doing their thing, I think next year people are gonna want to go to movies even more because they missed out this year.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I could see that, yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: And I think, especially with that new thing I'm doing, uh, which everyone you need to join me with this sometime.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_03: Not just the otters, but tailgating before a movie.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_03: That was life-changing, dude.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: And um I'm gonna try to do that this weekend, but it might look like next week I I'm gonna end up doing that.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, you need to join me on one of these tailgates, they are so much fun.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_03: And we just get we just get and like we get like popcorn and drinks like in the theater, and because it's free refills, we just keep going back in and keep getting more.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: It works out, works out great.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Um, and we do that, we did that over here in Columbia, Missouri at the Hollywood Regal Theater, the one I always go to.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: Um I did get permission prior to that.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: We had hot dogs and burgers the first time.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: We're no longer gonna do hot dogs because the theater sells hot dogs, and the way theaters make their bread and butter is by selling bread and butter.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: So we're not gonna eat or consume any concessions that we could just buy, or any food that we could just buy at the concessions.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_03: Um, we didn't think about that till after we started cooking the hot dogs, and I was like, we could have just gone inside and got hot dogs.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Um, that being said, if I do end up doing End of Oak Street, I am making chicken legs because dinosaurs.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, nice.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: So, anyways, but all that just to say the box office is doing great this year.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: I'm really hoping next year it'll be a thing.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Um I want to talk more about all this, but I I know we're running up on time.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: Alex, uh, you you you you you talk for now on.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm gonna stop talking.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: You end the show, you talk your final thoughts, and I'm just gonna sit back.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't have any final thoughts.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_02: That was pretty much how I felt.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_02: You guys can rewind and listen to how I feel about it all.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: Uh check us out on the otters they release on Thursdays from John.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: They'll be posted on all the social medias.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: Like, subscribe, check us out on Facebook, Instagrams, all the other social medias.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: Cody's the social media person, he can tell us all that.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: TikTok is coming, just so you guys know.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, fetch, actually, um, you know what?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: Never mind.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: Uh we do have more social medias, but you guys don't know about those yet.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: So I'll have to tell you and Cody about those, and then we'll let the audience know.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: And uh, well, that's gonna be it for keeping it relevant and always remember with great power comes great responsibility.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Bye, guys.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_02: Bye.
