  With Chase Elliott winning last week at Texas, a lot of the

  discussion this week has been about Chase Elliott being

  NASCAR's most popular driver now eight years running, 2017

  through last year, 2025, And then people speculating,

  wondering if Carson Hosevar could take that throne this

  year. Carson Hosevar wins.

  A couple of weeks ago, he was at the Met Gala in his suit.

  But he's also grassroots. He's out there racing dirt,

  racing asphalt locally. He's a young dude.

  I think he's, what, 23? He's streaming, He's gaming, so

  a lot of people know who he is. Probably a lot of younger
• 0:46
  people, maybe he's getting some young people into NASCAR.

  And so it got me thinking though about Chase Elliott and I think

  I'm going to title this video. Why is Chase Elliott so popular?

  And in in using that as the title, it's not click bait.

  Like I understand why Chase Elliott is popular.

  I guess now really being in the NASCAR world the last five

  years, it does kind of surprise me that Chase Elliott is the

  most popular driver year after year after year, and he wins it

  every year. I totally get why he's one of
• 1:21
  the most popular drivers. I would think one of these other
• 1:23
  guys would sneak in there every once in a while and win it.

  So again, and I do have some notes here, Chase Elliott, OK,
• 1:31
  he's won it 8 times in a row, 2018 to 2025.

  Now, last year's finalists, they don't tell you the order.

  Last year's finalist, Chase 1, you got Ryan Blaney, Ross
• 1:42
  Chastain, Denny Hamlin. You got to love that Kyle
• 1:45
  Larson. So when I'm looking at that
• 1:48
  list, first of all, I've said this for years, Denny Hamlin is
• 1:53
  the most interesting person in NASCAR and Kyle Busch is the
• 1:57
  second most interesting person in NASCAR.

  They're the guys that create storylines and make it
• 2:03
  interesting week in, week out. And Hamlin was a finalist last
• 2:08
  year. But a lot of people don't like
• 2:09
  Denny and he's very outspoken. A lot of people don't like Kyle
• 2:13
  Busch and he's very outspoken. So they can be the heels.

  They can wear the black hats, which arguably you need more
• 2:21
  than the dudes wearing the white hats like Chase Elliott.

  So again, like, I get it. Chase Elliott, good looking kid.

  Hendrick Motorsports, of course, so many people love his dad.

  His dad, Bill Elliott, 16 time NASCAR most popular driver.

  Here's another cool part of this.

  Basically an Elliott, not basically, truthfully an Elliott

  or an Earnhardt has won NASCAR's most popular driver.

  Going back. You have to go back 36 years

  until somebody that wasn't an Elliott or an Earnhardt has won

  NASCAR's most popular driver. That was Darryl Waltrip 1990.

  Because like I said, Chase has won it the last eight years.

  Dale Junior before that won it fricking what, like 15 times in

  a row. He won it from 2003 to 2017.

  And then before that, going back to 1990, you had sprinkled in

  Dale Senior and then all those years that Bill Elliott won

  NASCAR's most popular driver. So again, I understand why he's

  popular. He's clean cut, good looking

  kid. Chase Elliott, he's very polite

  in my opinion, doesn't say anything super interesting,

  doesn't really rock the boat. He's with the best team,

  arguably. Hendrick Motorsports.

  I already mentioned his dad, so I get all those things.

  It just it does surprise me that he wins it every single year,

  especially lately, like when I look at that list of finalists
• 3:53
  last year and I'll mention them again for you.

  Chase 1, Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Kyle

  Larson. OK, Kyle Larson, two time

  champion, you understand why he's in there.

  Denny Hamlin, he's more of a villain though, probably never

  going to win. Ross Chastain, if you go back a
• 4:10
  couple years, hail Melon, he's winning races.

  Ross Chastain unfortunately not in the mix as much winning

  races. And that's that's a big part of
• 4:18
  this. Let's be real, you can't just be
• 4:20
  popular. You got to be popular and good

  to win. Most popular driver, Like

  they're not going to give it to somebody who's freaking running

  30th. Look at the names I mentioned,

  Dale Earnhardt, junior Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Chase

  Elliott, those guys are all champions except for junior and

  junior 1 Daytona 5 hundreds and he was the most popular driver.

  I mean, maybe in NASCAR history. We're talking about junior with
• 4:44
  him just with different audiences and MTV Cribs and
• 4:48
  young people and Budweiser and all that.

  So the guy on that list last year it it would, it wouldn't

  surprise me if if Ryan Blaney ever won is my point.

  Like I'm surprised Blaney hasn't snuck up the last couple years

  to win one of these over Chase Elliott.

  Because to me, Ryan Blaney has a lot of the same qualities of

  Chase Elliott. Good looking kid, young dude.

  What is he 30 or whatever? He is just like Chase.

  His dad raced, obviously not as successful as Bill Elliott, but

  he's a winner. Ryan Blaney, he's a champion.

  He won a championship what couple 2-3 years ago, whatever

  it was. And then the difference to me

  is, and this is no disrespect to Chase, but Chase is just real

  quiet in terms of he doesn't really rock the boat, doesn't

  say a lot of interesting stuff. Whereas I feel like Ryan Blaney

  will mix it up a little more. He'll say more interesting
• 5:40
  things. He gets heated on the radio.

  We know that. And so maybe maybe that also

  goes against him a little bit in terms of popularity, that he
• 5:48
  Will Rock the boat a little more and he'll drop some F bombs on
• 5:51
  the radio and all that, which I think is great for the sport.

  So I wonder, I would think before his career is over and he

  just what, signed a long term extension with Penske?

  I mean, maybe I'm maybe Chase. I mean, maybe I'm wrong and

  Chase just wins it for the next 10 years until he's 40.

  I don't know. I would think Ryan Blaney's

  going to win at least one NASCAR most popular driver.

  We shall see. But the bigger argument is could

  somebody like Carson Hosevar win it this year, next year?

  That's also interesting because he rocks the boat, right?

  Like, he's not Mr. Nice Guy like Chase.

  And I'm not saying Chase isn't a fierce competitor, but Carson

  Hosovar ruffles a lot more feathers in the garage than

  Chase Elliott. He he pisses off a lot more fan

  bases than Chase Elliott does. Even even Steve O'Donnell was on

  Kenny conversation the other day and he said, hey, this was
• 6:45
  coming off the host of our win at Talladega.

  And he basically said, look, I know it's it's a guy that's kind
• 6:51
  of divisive in the garage area, but again, that's that's good
• 6:55
  for the sport. So they're all my notes there.

  Just kind of wanted to talk about that.

  It surprises me that Chase wins every single year.

  That's the thesis of this. I want to hear your guys

  comments though, too. Do you think Chase just wins it

  season? Probably not.
