- 0:00Speaker 1: Cocoga Alexandrova. First set, all Coca. She hadn't dropped the
- 0:06Speaker 1: set heading into it, and she didn't drop a set
- 0:08Speaker 1: in this one at all.
- 0:09Speaker 2: No, she didn't. She came out playing really well. This
- 0:12Speaker 2: I thought was a bit of a dangerous matchup for
- 0:14Speaker 2: Coco Alexandrova. It is one of the bigger hitters in
- 0:17Speaker 2: the women's game. Coco did a great job of utilizing
- 0:20Speaker 2: that fourhand high up the line, giving it some shape,
- 0:23Speaker 2: forcing Alexandrova back, and then going to work playing ultra
- 0:27Speaker 2: aggressive when the opportunity presented herself. But in that first set,
- 0:30Speaker 2: she balanced that aggression with making a lot of balls
- 0:33Speaker 2: and forcing Alexandrova to play beyond herself. We started to
- 0:37Speaker 2: see some errors creep in. Cocoa dominated that first set,
- 0:40Speaker 2: but you got to know that Alexandrova is going to
- 0:42Speaker 2: start to put it together at some point, and it
- 0:44Speaker 2: was going to be a matter about how well Coco
- 0:46Speaker 2: was going to be able to weather that storm force
- 0:48Speaker 2: certain to continue to play at a high level. They
- 0:50Speaker 2: had some really long and difficult games in the second set,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and over time Coco was able to get the break
- 0:56Speaker 2: at love five, All served the match out in all
- 1:01Speaker 2: areas of her game are working really well. I think
- 1:03Speaker 2: this is the best match that Coco has.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Played in this tournament thus far.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Coco goth now fifteen and three on clay this season.
- 1:11Speaker 1: The amount of success she has had at twenty one
- 1:14Speaker 1: years old is simply sensational. Earlier today, she joined us
- 1:18Speaker 1: at the desk and I got so excited. I started
- 1:21Speaker 1: reciting poetry or rapper something.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But I think she likes.
- 1:27Speaker 1: She cracks codes in escape rooms, cracks four hands on clay,
- 1:31Speaker 1: a quarter final out rolling Garros, It's just another day.
- 1:35Speaker 1: She hasn't lost a set. No mercy, you ain't Coco golf.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You can't serve me.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Bars.
- 1:44Speaker 4: How long did it take you to come up with that?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Eight seconds?
- 1:47Speaker 1: When you were right there, I thought of it. I
- 1:50Speaker 1: was curious because I saw your twenty one, but yet
- 1:53Speaker 1: this is your fifth rolling Garros quarter finals. The crazy
- 1:56Speaker 1: thing that I'm learning covering tennis is everyone likes to
- 1:59Speaker 1: talk about what you've done in the past or what
- 2:01Speaker 1: you're supposed to do in the future. How after a
- 2:04Speaker 1: match do you stay in the present and enjoy what
- 2:06Speaker 1: just happened without going into those other two places.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I think it's something I learned to do more on tour,
- 2:13Speaker 4: just enjoying each win. And sometimes you try to like
- 2:16Speaker 4: feel like you should just do that or you're supposed to,
- 2:18Speaker 4: but really every match out here is a privilege to
- 2:21Speaker 4: be out here, so I just try to enjoy it.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And yeah, it's crazy. It doesn't feel like it's been
- 2:25Speaker 4: five times in a row. But I'm happy and hopefully
- 2:28Speaker 4: I can keep going.
- 2:30Speaker 3: You're killing it.
- 2:30Speaker 5: You've had an incredible play court season this year. Thank
- 2:33Speaker 5: you today you came out six Love.
- 2:35Speaker 3: What do you feel?
- 2:36Speaker 5: What do you think after you've want to set like that?
- 2:38Speaker 5: Do you just think, oh, it's a new set, no problem,
- 2:41Speaker 5: or does it make you a little nervous? Every player
- 2:43Speaker 5: is different.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Every time I win six Love, I think of Taylor
- 2:46Speaker 4: Britton how he says it's a curse literally every time,
- 2:49Speaker 4: and it has. I don't think it's yet to happen
- 2:51Speaker 4: to me. I think yet, and maybe that'd be something
- 2:53Speaker 4: that knock on would but yeah, usually when that happens,
- 2:57Speaker 4: I expect the person to play better because I've lost
- 3:00Speaker 4: some set six Love and you kind of just start
- 3:02Speaker 4: going for stuff and you're like whatever, I just need
- 3:04Speaker 4: to get on the scoreboard, And especially with her like
- 3:07Speaker 4: she can create some great shots and hit some great winners,
- 3:11Speaker 4: so I expected her to play better and I was
- 3:13Speaker 4: just trying to stay aggressive and keep my foot on
- 3:15Speaker 4: the gas.
- 3:17Speaker 3: We've been talking about your love of escape room since
- 3:19Speaker 3: you've been on the desk. I got two questions. One
- 3:21Speaker 3: do you think there's a correlation between the escape rooms
- 3:24Speaker 3: and problem solving and problem solving on the tennis court?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Oh? Interesting?
- 3:27Speaker 3: And two if you had to pick three women in
- 3:30Speaker 3: the WT to help you get out of an escape room, okay,
- 3:33Speaker 3: who would you pick.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I definitely think there is a little bit of correlation.
- 3:37Speaker 4: I find tennis is a little bit easier because sometimes
- 3:39Speaker 4: in escape rooms I've been like, all right, like I'm done,
- 3:42Speaker 4: Like somebody else do it. The last time we did
- 3:44Speaker 4: I literally was like, this is not me. It was
- 3:46Speaker 4: a lot of math, and I was like, I don't
- 3:48Speaker 4: do mental math. But I was always a reader and
- 3:50Speaker 4: a writer, so I was like, this is not me.
- 3:52Speaker 4: So tennis is a little bit easier. Who would I
- 3:54Speaker 4: pick to do an escape room with?
- 3:55Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Not just your friends. Sam and I got to talk about
- 3:57Speaker 1: this strategy, like people that you think would be good at.
- 4:00Speaker 4: It, probably, I feel okay, kritchya Kova. She's someone that
- 4:03Speaker 4: I feel like studies the game really well, like I've
- 4:05Speaker 4: always seen her like in watching the matches like live
- 4:08Speaker 4: in persons person which I don't think a lot of
- 4:10Speaker 4: players do that. So she just seems smart. I gotta go,
- 4:15Speaker 4: who's someone who's like I feel like Elena. She seems
- 4:19Speaker 4: like someone that's calm under pressure and I'm like rowled up.
- 4:22Speaker 4: She'll probably be the one that we need to be
- 4:24Speaker 4: a buffer, like just quiet, more chill. And then there's
- 4:29Speaker 4: always a wildcard someone that, like I feel like ans like,
- 4:32Speaker 4: you need a wildcard who like because you know she'll
- 4:35Speaker 4: throw in the drop shots and stuff. You need a wildcard.
- 4:37Speaker 4: There's like this clue that you just can't somon on
- 4:41Speaker 4: a here it comes on and you need a lucky
- 4:43Speaker 4: like a little bit of lucky person.
- 4:45Speaker 6: In the pretty simple, straightforward match today, you got through
- 4:50Speaker 6: it pretty easily. What do you do on an off day,
- 4:53Speaker 6: Like what does tomorrow look like for you?
- 4:55Speaker 4: Yeah? Usually I like to practice somewhat in the morning,
- 4:58Speaker 4: not too early, round eleven or so, and yeah, just
- 5:01Speaker 4: we kind of do the same routine and then maybe
- 5:03Speaker 4: like the last like fifteen minutes, I'll do something catered
- 5:06Speaker 4: to who I play the next round of whether it's
- 5:08Speaker 4: drills or something like that. And then other than that,
- 5:11Speaker 4: I mean, yesterday I just stayed inside because of all
- 5:13Speaker 4: the parades and stuff. I wasn't trying to get a
- 5:15Speaker 4: part of that, but probably an escape room or playing
- 5:18Speaker 4: cards or something chill, but just trying to enjoy the
- 5:22Speaker 4: day and not think about the match next day.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Wait, where's the treatment in the massage and all the
- 5:25Speaker 6: day's given?
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yeah, oh that was just built in.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's built in. Like yeah, after I practice,
- 5:34Speaker 4: I eat here and then I go to the hotel
- 5:35Speaker 4: and my physio does Yeah that stuff. But it's probably
- 5:39Speaker 4: my least favorite because I feel like the day always
- 5:41Speaker 4: feels over when I leave here, and then I realize
- 5:43Speaker 4: that it's not. I still have to do that.
- 5:45Speaker 5: I would see your dad on the practice court. I
- 5:46Speaker 5: see her around the grounds all the time. But he
- 5:49Speaker 5: gets too nervous for a matches.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Yea, or it's not a superstition, well both.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I think he he has some like reactions where he'll
- 5:56Speaker 4: just and I get if I look in the box
- 5:58Speaker 4: like I want positivity, and I'll just see him like
- 6:00Speaker 4: go like this or like this, and he doesn't mean it.
- 6:03Speaker 4: And so after woman and I lost first round and
- 6:06Speaker 4: I was like, okay, I don't think we both agreed
- 6:08Speaker 4: that we should have sit in the box, was like,
- 6:10Speaker 4: we can go at it like because I just can't
- 6:12Speaker 4: went through Actually does it with my brothers too, Like
- 6:14Speaker 4: my brother is like, okay, don't sit like right behind
- 6:17Speaker 4: me either. And then after that I won like DC
- 6:19Speaker 4: since TENA has opened, so after that, he's he's kind
- 6:22Speaker 4: of a superstitious guy. So he's like, okay, I'm I
- 6:27Speaker 4: don't know. I've seen him in a Rolex suite once,
- 6:30Speaker 4: but here I think he's watching on a TV. You
- 6:32Speaker 4: just open the final. He was watching in the gym.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And we should have him come to the set and
- 6:36Speaker 1: watch with us.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I think he just buys a ticket on stub Hub.
- 6:40Speaker 5: I've seen him walk.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, after ash I've heard he's walked. And
- 6:44Speaker 4: during that final, I heard that somebody that TV was
- 6:47Speaker 4: delayed with somebody actually the tendant told him to like
- 6:49Speaker 4: go run into the box that the match is over.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 1: One thing that I've been amazed experiencing tennis like this
- 6:56Speaker 1: for the very first time is when we go down
- 6:58Speaker 1: to the whisper seats where Sloan sits, you can see
- 7:01Speaker 1: and hear everything. Can you see Sloan when when she's
- 7:05Speaker 1: down there and there's this famous story about Joe Montana
- 7:09Speaker 1: and the Super Bowl he looks up and he sees
- 7:11Speaker 1: John Candy. Are you so locked in or are you
- 7:14Speaker 1: able to pick faces out the crowd and resonate with that?
- 7:17Speaker 4: No, I see like everybody, I see Sloan. I've seen
- 7:20Speaker 4: hers at my matches. If there's a celebrity there, I
- 7:24Speaker 4: definitely will probably spot them too.
- 7:27Speaker 1: At this point, does that impact you at all?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Or is it?
- 7:29Speaker 6: Oh, it's great.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I think it's keeps because like in practice, like I'm
- 7:33Speaker 4: not one of those players that's like one hundred percent
- 7:36Speaker 4: and every second of practice like, yeah, I'm locked in,
- 7:38Speaker 4: but you know, I'm talking about other stuff on the
- 7:40Speaker 4: changeovers and stuff, so I don't. I don't see why
- 7:43Speaker 4: in the match why I would do something different. So
- 7:45Speaker 4: I think it just helps get my mind off of it,
- 7:47Speaker 4: take the pressure off, and then you know, get back
- 7:49Speaker 4: to focus.
- 7:50Speaker 3: We're in Paris, left Co and I have had to
- 7:53Speaker 3: combine three hundred croissants in the last nine lot. Are
- 7:55Speaker 3: you enjoyed the Paris food. Croissants are gonna have a crossos.
- 7:58Speaker 3: You're pretty strict with the diet.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I had a croissant this morning. I find like, especially
- 8:02Speaker 4: I had the wake up so early, it was just
- 8:04Speaker 4: something to eat. And honestly, I'm not that strict, Like
- 8:08Speaker 4: if there's something sweet and put in front of me,
- 8:09Speaker 4: I won't order it. But once we're at a restaurant,
- 8:11Speaker 4: they gave us like a bunch of free desserts and
- 8:13Speaker 4: I was like, I can't say no to that, So.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, bring out the cooking.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I'm having to telebiscuits every night. So yeah, I'm not
- 8:21Speaker 4: that strict. I find you know, it's okay. I I
- 8:23Speaker 4: feel like I make up for it on the court.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Love that.
- 8:25Speaker 1: As we're talking to Cocoa right now, you are the
- 8:27Speaker 1: first American moving on to the quarterfinals. Congratulations, and America
- 8:31Speaker 1: is watching along with you. They're getting up at four
- 8:34Speaker 1: in the morning to watch Cocoa golf played tennis. They're
- 8:37Speaker 1: paying attention to co Go golf and they are so
- 8:39Speaker 1: proud of you.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Thank you. Thanks for waking up early. I wouldn't do
- 8:42Speaker 4: it for me, Go go go.
- 8:46Speaker 6: Thank you.
