- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 117 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: So we have not watched Toy Story 4 yet, nor Toy Story 5.
- 0:38I Hate Talking: So we have been watching a lot of TV, but it has not been anything Disney or Toy Story related.
- 0:47I Hate Talking: We have been watching the World Cup.
- 0:49I Hate Talking: That's true, and as of this week, it is now concluded with Spain taking the final game to its conclusion in the positive, and they have won World Cup 2026.
- 1:03I Hate Talking: Spoiler.
- 1:04I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 1:05I Hate Talking: It's, it's been 5 days or so.
- 1:07I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think it's pretty much out there that even as of the time of this recording, that it's pretty well known.
- 1:14I Hate Talking: So, but yes, the game is probably not really worth watching the recap.
- 1:21I Hate Talking: I mean, in the recap, yes, but like the full game.
- 1:23I Hate Talking: Probably not.
- 1:25I Hate Talking: -- And -- it was a long game too, cause they went into overtime, however you say it.
- 1:30I Hate Talking: Extra time, time.
- 1:31I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 1:32I Hate Talking: Well, no, extra time, extra minutes.
- 1:36I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 1:37I Hate Talking: -- I don't -- know, I'll have to check.
- 1:38I Hate Talking: I don't know what that exactly is called.
- 1:40I Hate Talking: Extra time is the time added to the standard time for the hydration break and different stoppages.
- 1:48I Hate Talking: So is this the word of the day?
- 1:50I Hate Talking: I guess it could be the original word of the day was gonna be offsides because I think more people understand that nowadays that soccer has become a little bit more ingrained in American culture and sort of people do follow the World Cup in general.
- 2:05I Hate Talking: So I think offsides maybe is a bit more well understood these days, I suppose we could do.
- 2:12I Hate Talking: A doubleheader.
- 2:13I Hate Talking: Is it called a knockout match?
- 2:16I Hate Talking: Well, if there's a golden goal, yes, then that would be.
- 2:19I Hate Talking: Like a knockout time.
- 2:22I Hate Talking: I think it just apparently it's called extra time.
- 2:26I Hate Talking: Yeah, it says extra time.
- 2:29I Hate Talking: is also referred to as overtime.
- 2:33I Hate Talking: In the World Cup soccer rules, it's 30 minutes, which are composed of 2 15 minute halves, and there is no golden goal.
- 2:41I Hate Talking: Which is the golden goal essentially being the first team to score wins.
- 2:46I Hate Talking: So that does not happen.
- 2:47I Hate Talking: They have all 30 minutes to play out the entire time, and then if it's tied again at the end of that extra time, then it goes to a penalty shootout.
- 2:59I Hate Talking: Right.
- 3:01I Hate Talking: And even then it's not the first to make a goal, right?
- 3:04I Hate Talking: You get like 5 chances.
- 3:06I Hate Talking: Correct, yes, and then if it's a tie after that, you go do it again.
- 3:09I Hate Talking: We got to see one of those, got to go to Vegas recently and we just so happened to be on a date in a casino.
- 3:18I Hate Talking: We had just finished our like drinks and all that and we were about to hit the casino floor.
- 3:25I Hate Talking: When we heard all this ruckus and we're all like, hey, what's that?
- 3:28I Hate Talking: And so we went over there.
- 3:30I Hate Talking: And we saw really entertaining penalty kicks.
- 3:34I Hate Talking: I think that was the first time I've ever actually seen it, the game.
- 3:38I Hate Talking: It's somewhat rare because you have to have at least A game in like the semifinals.
- 3:47I Hate Talking: After the knockout rounds.
- 3:49I Hate Talking: Because that's where you actually have to determine a winner instead of allowing it to be a tie, whereas in like the knockout rounds, it's just gonna be points based, so a game can end in a, in a draw in that scenario.
- 4:00I Hate Talking: So, and then there has to be a tie at both the end of regular time and then also a tie at the end of the extra time.
- 4:09I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 4:10I Hate Talking: And then I think I've heard people refer to the time added to the end of the standard 45 minute half as extra time, but it's also referred to more explicitly as stoppage time.
- 4:23I Hate Talking: Oh, OK, yeah, I've heard that term before.
- 4:25I Hate Talking: Yes, so that is the time that is added to the regular time for injuries, substitutions, and other interruptions such as the hydration break.
- 4:36I Hate Talking: Right?
- 4:37I Hate Talking: So I had heard, and you can correct me if you think otherwise.
- 4:41I Hate Talking: I'd heard that this year for FIFA World Cup, they did the 5 minute hydration break.
- 4:48I Hate Talking: In each half, because it was so hot here in America, where they're hosting.
- 4:53I Hate Talking: But then I heard somebody else saying, well, that's just what they're saying it's really for commercial break.
- 5:01I Hate Talking: Well, there certainly were a lot more commercials this World Cup, so I think that's perhaps true.
- 5:07I Hate Talking: It's also interesting that in some games, even though the hydration break was supposed to take 5 minutes, either it did not, or the ref just didn't keep track of it because there would be actually less than 5 minutes of stoppage time added afterwards.
- 5:20I Hate Talking: So that was sort of strange.
- 5:24I Hate Talking: Like, even the announcers, I think, were sometimes caught off guard by that because they're like, and we'll see at least 5 minutes of stoppage time, and then it would be like 4 minutes or something.
- 5:32I Hate Talking: I didn't think about that, but you're right, there was definitely at least 1 time it was plus 4 minutes indeed, huh.
- 5:39I Hate Talking: So I suppose we've touched on some different Definitions of time that is used within.
- 5:48I Hate Talking: The world of soccer or football, as it is known in the rest of the world, but our official word or phrase of the episode is offsides.
- 5:59I Hate Talking: OK.
- 5:59I Hate Talking: So Basically, according to Duck Duck Go AI search assist, a player is in an offside position if any part of their head, body, or feet, excluding hands and arms, is in the opponent's half and closer to the goal line than the ball and the second last opponent.
- 6:20I Hate Talking: So, they're basically including the goalie as an opponent in that particular definition.
- 6:25I Hate Talking: So that's why you would have basically the first defender or the last defender essentially would be offsides if you're past that person.
- 6:35I Hate Talking: On their side of the field.
- 6:38I Hate Talking: OK, so that makes um some sense because when you clarify that the goalie counts as an opponent, which he does, that makes sense, because I thought I had understood offsides finally, after all these years.
- 6:52I Hate Talking: And then when you said that, I was like, oh no, wait, now there has to be two opponents, yes, obviously the goalie and But here's a question, what if the goalie goes rogue and leaves his box and runs to the front?
- 7:07I Hate Talking: Does there still have to be 2?
- 7:10I Hate Talking: Soccer opponents.
- 7:12I Hate Talking: Um, I'm not sure.
- 7:15I Hate Talking: We'll have to check because maybe AI got this wrong because I thought it was just basically a player.
- 7:20I Hate Talking: That is not the goalie.
- 7:22I Hate Talking: So, perhaps we can look at that.
- 7:26I Hate Talking: That is pretty rare as well.
- 7:27I Hate Talking: That may occur like if there's been a red card and they're playing a man down and then they want to pull the goalie to try to Score, yeah, push it forward or something.
- 7:37I Hate Talking: So, there are some nuances about offsides.
- 7:40I Hate Talking: So offsides cannot occur if you're on your own side of the field.
- 7:44I Hate Talking: So you could have the goalie in his Goal and then all the opponents standing like at the, your home goal, and if you're on your side, you can.
- 7:56I Hate Talking: Be on sides essentially, so OK, -- you can go behind them or in front of them -- and if you're -- on your side of the field -- because you're not shooting to your goal.
- 8:05I Hate Talking: No, but even if the Ball is passed from like the 18 yard line to the closest edge of the circle.
- 8:15I Hate Talking: And all the defenders are closer to the home goal, then that's not offsides cause you're still on your side of the field.
- 8:23I Hate Talking: OK, wait, yes, but if they were to push it to go to make a goal, then it would be offsides.
- 8:31I Hate Talking: No.
- 8:31I Hate Talking: Oh no OK.
- 8:33I Hate Talking: So then, A player can be quote unquote, offsides, but then it's not necessarily going to be a stoppage if they are not involved in the play.
- 8:44I Hate Talking: So, typically, you'll see the offsides call when they either receive a pass or are somehow involved in the play with like either covering a different opposing player or something like that.
- 8:56I Hate Talking: And then, so wait, so for that you're saying.
- 9:01I Hate Talking: Yeah, say some a player wants to be proactive and runs towards the goal, and then just chills there.
- 9:08I Hate Talking: As long as he doesn't get the ball first before the other opponent comes, he's OK.
- 9:13I Hate Talking: -- He can run over that way and hang out -- if he's not involved in the play at all.
- 9:17I Hate Talking: Yeah, -- if he's just -- just go and hang out over there.
- 9:19I Hate Talking: OK, because is that something uh that teams, is that a strategy that they could maybe back out?
- 9:28I Hate Talking: If they realize like, oh no, there's all, you know, like, they're way ahead of us, so we're all behind.
- 9:34I Hate Talking: So the player could instead of trying to run ahead and get the ball, could he just step back?
- 9:39I Hate Talking: And then the team is offsides.
- 9:43I Hate Talking: -- Like -- the defenders are basically -- Pulling this player offsides by -- moving closer to, yes, that is true.
- 9:51I Hate Talking: They do that sometimes.
- 9:52I Hate Talking: Now, the critical thing about offsides is that the position of the player is only measured when the ball is passed to them.
- 10:05I Hate Talking: So, at the time their teammate is passing the ball, they actually kick it.
- 10:11I Hate Talking: They have to be onsides, but then immediately after the kick, they can go into the quote unquote offsides position because the ball has already been in play.
- 10:21I Hate Talking: OK.
- 10:21I Hate Talking: Because they're theoretically moving to the next play, right, they're moving faster than the defender, and they can receive the pass, -- and that's -- OK as long as they don't touch the ball again, right?
- 10:32I Hate Talking: That's where all those like fancy.
- 10:34I Hate Talking: VAR replays come into play where they're checking that player's exact position at the time the ball was actually kicked as a pass.
- 10:43I Hate Talking: That's where I finally realized I understand offsides was they had one of those.
- 10:49I Hate Talking: Graphics, they lined up.
- 10:51I Hate Talking: And they showed that his shoulder and part of his head.
- 10:55I Hate Talking: was off like ahead of the defender.
- 10:59I Hate Talking: And so he didn't, the goal didn't count or whatnot, right?
- 11:02I Hate Talking: So I was like, oh, that visual really helped me see, but they said that if he had just moved his shoulder, Like I guess to the right, like a little bit back.
- 11:11I Hate Talking: Then he would have been fine, because he was leaning towards the left, he was offsides.
- 11:18I Hate Talking: And it's crazy that it can be that strict.
- 11:21I Hate Talking: So what's the purpose of offsides though, like.
- 11:26I Hate Talking: For the rules, why is it so strict?
- 11:31I Hate Talking: Well, to prevent exactly what you were saying, that a player could just go hang out on the opposing side of the field and just wait for a pass, and that could be colloquially known as cherry-picking because you're basically just hanging out and waiting for a pass, and that offside's role is to try to prevent that.
- 11:53I Hate Talking: OK.
- 11:54I Hate Talking: Yeah, I can see that.
- 11:56I Hate Talking: And then offsides rules are suspended for throw-ins, so a player can receive a ball from a throw-in and be quote unquote offsides, and that is allowed.
- 12:07I Hate Talking: There is no offsides in a corner kick, and then there's also no offsides during a goal kick.
- 12:14I Hate Talking: So even A player that is.
- 12:18I Hate Talking: On the same team that is performing the goal kick, they will not be offsides in that particular scenario.
- 12:26I Hate Talking: OK.
- 12:26I Hate Talking: Now, typically, it's gonna be quite a long pass to pass to somebody that far away in a goal kick, but it is possible, right?
- 12:35I Hate Talking: There's a lot of rules, like, In soccer, you think initially it's just a lot of running and kicking.
- 12:42I Hate Talking: But there's a lot of nuanced rules in this.
- 12:46I Hate Talking: I guess I mean, I think there's like offsides in hockey, right?
- 12:51I Hate Talking: I don't even know hockey at all.
- 12:52I Hate Talking: So I think there's offsides, there's icing on in hockey as well that has some sort of similar rules, I believe.
- 12:59I Hate Talking: So, it's all about player positioning with these type of games.
- 13:04I Hate Talking: Can you have offsides in basketball?
- 13:05I Hate Talking: I don't, I don't know.
- 13:07I Hate Talking: -- I've never heard of all sides -- in basketball.
- 13:09I Hate Talking: Like, -- like -- I'm trying to think of all the roles.
- 13:11I Hate Talking: It's been so long since I was in that world, and I never played.
- 13:16I Hate Talking: I, we were very much a basketball family.
- 13:19I Hate Talking: So I'm trying, I've never heard that term, I feel like for that.
- 13:23I Hate Talking: No, the biggest quote unquote cheat you would do in basketball that I was aware of was, yeah, when you're throwing in, or in a position, like you're kind of boxed in.
- 13:36I Hate Talking: You throw the ball at the person's foot, and it goes out and then your team gets the ball and you can all reset and play a better.
- 13:46I Hate Talking: From better positions.
- 13:48I Hate Talking: So, basketball does not have offsides, but have you heard of the three-second violation?
- 13:53I Hate Talking: When you don't throw it or you don't bounce it for 3 seconds, an offensive player cannot remain in the paint area for more than 3 seconds.
- 14:02I Hate Talking: Oh, yeah, I do know that.
- 14:04I Hate Talking: I do know that.
- 14:05I Hate Talking: Well, I don't know the word paint area.
- 14:07I Hate Talking: I'm trying to think of it a box.
- 14:09I Hate Talking: What do we call it a box.
- 14:10I Hate Talking: -- I'm trying to think of what we call -- it officially, yeah, OK, there you go.
- 14:14I Hate Talking: Oh man, this is coming back.
- 14:16I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 14:16I Hate Talking: So yeah, you can't just like, again, I guess it's the same kind of idea, right?
- 14:20I Hate Talking: You can't just hang out there waiting.
- 14:22I Hate Talking: You got to be moving.
- 14:23I Hate Talking: If you're in that section.
- 14:26I Hate Talking: And then there's a backcourt violation that is somewhat to do with player positioning that occurs when an offensive player returns the ball to the backcourt after crossing the midline.
- 14:37I Hate Talking: So I guess that's actually to like prevent some of the back passes that happen very frequently in soccer.
- 14:44I Hate Talking: So basically, once you're past the midline, you can't pass backwards.
- 14:49I Hate Talking: So you have to continue to drive.
- 14:51I Hate Talking: So that's very different than soccer where you have all the freedom to pass backwards and keep control of the ball all the way back to the goalie if the team so desires.
- 15:02I Hate Talking: Oh, they love to do that, it seems like.
- 15:04I Hate Talking: That was, yeah, a lot of time, I guess 90 minutes is a long time watching the World Cup.
- 15:11I Hate Talking: I'm like, man, y'all are in no hurry.
- 15:13I Hate Talking: You're just dillydallying out there passing it back and forth.
- 15:17I Hate Talking: I just felt like it was like our front yard just kicking it around to each other.
- 15:21I Hate Talking: And then they would get into it for sure, and then it would get intense, but.
- 15:27I Hate Talking: Right, they're looking for those gaps in the defense or trying to set up a set play or something like that.
- 15:32I Hate Talking: So they'll just pass it back in order to maintain control of the ball until they find that opportunity.
- 15:39I Hate Talking: So That can happen with soccer as well, where you're trying to get it out on the other person, right?
- 15:48I Hate Talking: That happens.
- 15:49I Hate Talking: Frequently where you're basically kicking it as hard as you can against the opponent and hoping that it bounces out so that you take a throw in or take a corner or something like that.
- 15:59I Hate Talking: Yeah, they do that in soccer too.
- 16:00I Hate Talking: So That was the The thing that was probably the most prevalent thing to referee when I was doing referee for youth soccer, you had to make sure that the ball was given to the correct team after the ball went out of play.
- 16:20I Hate Talking: For a throw in a corner or a goal kick, because you got to pay attention to that and I was paid ref, but then the linemen were volunteers, so you couldn't often trust them to pay attention because they'd be like someone's dad.
- 16:35I Hate Talking: No, he's usually like a sibling, like an older sibling, probably.
- 16:39I Hate Talking: So I had a vested interest in who won.
- 16:43I Hate Talking: Yeah, maybe.
- 16:44I Hate Talking: That's why I still had to pay attention to make sure they're, were making the right call.
- 16:48I Hate Talking: But you would know, like if you go to the same teams over and over again, you'd know like which ones are the good ones and you could just say like, no, you're not allowed to do it because you're not accurate or fair, and then you have to find somebody else.
- 17:02I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, obviously, like, you know, we're Compared to basketball, basketball has that too.
- 17:09I Hate Talking: But the court is much smaller, so I think it's just a lot less running, like, I mean, in basketball, the refs run some.
- 17:20I Hate Talking: But man, in soccer, those guys.
- 17:24I Hate Talking: Uh The refs have a hard job.
- 17:28I Hate Talking: I would know.
- 17:29I Hate Talking: I was like, really feeling for, especially in the last game, the main ref.
- 17:35I Hate Talking: I was like, oh, I don't want to be him right now.
- 17:36I Hate Talking: I think he's more stressed than anyone.
- 17:38I Hate Talking: Because He has to watch all around him while running and not getting in the way.
- 17:45I Hate Talking: Sometimes they get in the way of the ball.
- 17:47I Hate Talking: And then mess that up too.
- 17:50I Hate Talking: Indeed.
- 17:52I Hate Talking: So according to Docco AI.
- 17:56I Hate Talking: An average professional basketball player runs about 2.55 miles during a 48 minute game.
- 18:04I Hate Talking: OK, well, that's half of a soccer game.
- 18:09I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 18:11I Hate Talking: So how much does a soccer player run and then half that, I guess, right?
- 18:16I Hate Talking: I suppose so, -- but maybe -- the same then.
- 18:19I Hate Talking: Um, but Is a 48 minute game standard basketball game?
- 18:24I Hate Talking: There's, yeah, they're quarters.
- 18:28I Hate Talking: I don't know, it says NBA game, cause this is 48 minutes.
- 18:33I Hate Talking: I'm certainly not a basketball expert, as is probably readily apparent.
- 18:37I Hate Talking: Well, obviously I'm not either.
- 18:39I Hate Talking: All right, well, no, OK, I was wrong.
- 18:42I Hate Talking: I said for 15 minutes, it's for 12 minutes.
- 18:45I Hate Talking: For 12 minutes.
- 18:47I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 18:49I Hate Talking: So, um, I was off by 3, which I guess, yeah, 4 times 12 is 48 minutes, and then that's for NBA.
- 18:57I Hate Talking: The NCAA does 2 20-minute halves.
- 19:02I Hate Talking: Oh, but here we go.
- 19:05I Hate Talking: Can I justify myself?
- 19:07I Hate Talking: Oh no, I'm not gonna, that doesn't justify me, never mind.
- 19:10I Hate Talking: I was gonna say high school is for.
- 19:15I Hate Talking: 8 minute quarters.
- 19:17I Hate Talking: That's even less.
- 19:19I Hate Talking: That's even less.
- 19:20I Hate Talking: So, on average, a soccer player runs 6 to 8 miles during a professional game, and it can vary because your fullbacks are gonna run in a different amount than your midfielders are gonna run a different amount than your forwards and strikers.
- 19:34I Hate Talking: But If you essentially AA basketball game to 5 miles.
- 19:42I Hate Talking: Even on the low end of soccer players running more than that and close to double that.
- 19:49I Hate Talking: And then that's, Assuming that they play for the entire length of the game, but then if it goes to extra time.
- 19:57I Hate Talking: That could be playing even longer and then they're running even more.
- 20:02I Hate Talking: And I did just look it up because once again, my uh memory, I'm not in this world any longer.
- 20:10I Hate Talking: Basketball players typically don't play an entire game.
- 20:14I Hate Talking: Like I was, I was surprised at how.
- 20:17I Hate Talking: The majority of the soccer players play the entire time, like you said, if they go to overtime, they're playing for like 120 minutes.
- 20:26I Hate Talking: No, yeah, yeah.
- 20:28I Hate Talking: Oh man, my math today, but yes, 120 minutes, that's intent.
- 20:33I Hate Talking: Basketball players often, uh, they'll often swap them out.
- 20:38I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 20:39I Hate Talking: All right, so, a deep dive into various rules and nuances of soccer and as well and other sports and things of that nature.
- 20:49I Hate Talking: So as we round out this episode, what was your favorite game of World Cup 2026?
- 20:55I Hate Talking: Like to watch or.
- 21:00I Hate Talking: But I'm glad I participated in.
- 21:03I Hate Talking: Well, I don't, did you, you were on the field, you were playing?
- 21:06I Hate Talking: No, but I mean, some games were more interesting to watch than others.
- 21:12I Hate Talking: And, but like our church had an event for.
- 21:20I Hate Talking: The first US game.
- 21:23I Hate Talking: And we all like watched it and ate good food and like all decked out.
- 21:30I Hate Talking: Like it was just a really fun day.
- 21:31I Hate Talking: So I think that one or like.
- 21:36I Hate Talking: Ambience or whatever you wanna call it, you know, I really enjoyed all that and then they have like pickup soccer games and stuff like that, that people participated in our kids did.
- 21:49I Hate Talking: It was really fun, you did.
- 21:50I Hate Talking: It was really fun to watch.
- 21:51I Hate Talking: So the US game, that one particularly?
- 21:56I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think we won too, right?
- 21:59I Hate Talking: I don't recall.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: I had to leave before it ended.
- 22:03I Hate Talking: That's true, but we were ahead when I left.
- 22:06I Hate Talking: That was good.
- 22:07I Hate Talking: But I mean, so yeah, that was the most fun overall experience.
- 22:14I Hate Talking: I really enjoyed watching.
- 22:17I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, the game, I we only watched the.
- 22:21I Hate Talking: Over time in Vegas, but that one was really fun.
- 22:26I Hate Talking: And again, part of it was, it was the atmosphere and the shootouts.
- 22:30I Hate Talking: I was most invested.
- 22:33I Hate Talking: In the US game at the end when they got out, yeah, I was rooting for Norway and then they lost.
- 22:40I Hate Talking: I was rooting for Switzerland and then they got out.
- 22:43I Hate Talking: I see.
- 22:45I Hate Talking: They were out pretty early though.
- 22:47I Hate Talking: No, they made it to the quarterfinals.
- 22:50I Hate Talking: Maybe they'd make it to the quarterfinals.
- 22:52I Hate Talking: They did better than us.
- 22:53I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 22:54I Hate Talking: So, yeah, and then after that.
- 22:59I Hate Talking: I think I did France and they lost.
- 23:03I Hate Talking: And then I was rooting for Argentina, and they lost to Spain.
- 23:08I Hate Talking: So I really.
- 23:10I Hate Talking: Did bad choosing this time.
- 23:12I Hate Talking: But what about you?
- 23:14I Hate Talking: What was your favorite games and who were you rooting for?
- 23:18I Hate Talking: So Yeah, I was rooting for the US, uh, so.
- 23:24I Hate Talking: Well, typically for Germany.
- 23:26I Hate Talking: Norway was one that was following that up to the very end, would have liked to see them go to the final or even win.
- 23:35I Hate Talking: The particular games that stand out to me were the 3rd-place match between England and France, just because that was such a strange game.
- 23:46I Hate Talking: Like England scored 4 goals in the very 1st half.
- 23:49I Hate Talking: It was like all England.
- 23:51I Hate Talking: France didn't seem like they even wanted to be there.
- 23:53I Hate Talking: And then something changed at the half.
- 23:55I Hate Talking: So either inspirational speech or, you know, like an offer of a bonus or something if they win.
- 24:02I Hate Talking: And, They played like a completely different game, and that game ended, I think 6-4 England.
- 24:08I Hate Talking: So it was a very high scoring game, very exciting.
- 24:11I Hate Talking: And that was probably my favorite game of the World Cup 2026, the.
- 24:18I Hate Talking: Other ones that were interesting way back in the Uh, knockout rounds were converting just because they did so well and were able to defend, and I think they finished.
- 24:33I Hate Talking: Didn't they finish their game with Argentina as a tie and a And also finished their Spain match as a tie.
- 24:42I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 24:44I Hate Talking: So based on that, they should have just won because they basically tied both of the final teams.
- 24:51I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 24:52I Hate Talking: Do some of the teams not try hard in the beginning?
- 24:56I Hate Talking: That is true.
- 24:57I Hate Talking: They kind of save their best players or they save their so that they don't get injured or anything like that, yeah.
- 25:03I Hate Talking: Makes sense.
- 25:05I Hate Talking: If you don't really have any skin in the game, if you're not gonna lose anything.
- 25:08I Hate Talking: Will it give you a better bracket, like, You'll get like home field advantage, I believe, so.
- 25:16I Hate Talking: Like you will But none of them are home.
- 25:20I Hate Talking: Mexico.
- 25:21I Hate Talking: So they could have played at home in the US and Canada, and Canada as well, right?
- 25:28I Hate Talking: So if they, if they won all their matches and were able to like pick their games, they would play in Canada or in Mexico.
- 25:36I Hate Talking: What do you think Canada and Mexico felt like?
- 25:39I Hate Talking: They were part of the World Cup too, right?
- 25:42I Hate Talking: They're hosting everything was the US, like a big US when it was the 4th of July.
- 25:48I Hate Talking: 250 years.
- 25:50I Hate Talking: President Trump was out there giving out the medals and all that.
- 25:54I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 25:55I Hate Talking: -- They really participate or -- yeah, they hosted, they had some of the, the Mexico City.
- 26:00I Hate Talking: One had some really good matches at the Mexico City.
- 26:03I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 26:03I Hate Talking: We're just the real big ones, the final ones here in the state, right?
- 26:08I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 26:08I Hate Talking: OK.
- 26:09I Hate Talking: Miami, New York, New Jersey.
- 26:11I Hate Talking: So, and we're already bidding to host it next time.
- 26:16I Hate Talking: Oh really?
- 26:17I Hate Talking: That's what Mr.
- 26:19I Hate Talking: President Trump says, yep.
- 26:20I Hate Talking: So we'll see.
- 26:22I Hate Talking: They don't have it already lined up.
- 26:24I Hate Talking: It's 4 years away.
- 26:25I Hate Talking: I feel like they should.
- 26:25I Hate Talking: Um, yeah, maybe that, I think maybe it already is determined for 2030, so this would be like the next bid for 2034.
- 26:34I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 26:35I Hate Talking: Let's check that as our final stat for this episode, see where the 2030 World Cup is.
- 26:41I Hate Talking: Again, a group of countries will be hosting in 2030, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.
- 26:48I Hate Talking: OK, how fun.
- 26:50I Hate Talking: It's a fun area to go to.
- 26:52I Hate Talking: I really enjoyed, probably my biggest thing I enjoyed about the FIFA World Cup this year.
- 26:59I Hate Talking: Was, I mean, our kids were into it, so that was fun to watch and obviously you really like it, so I enjoy spending time with you doing that.
- 27:07I Hate Talking: But I loved all the Europeans and their takeaways coming to the States.
- 27:13I Hate Talking: They just cracked me up all their tweets and their Instagram posts and stuff.
- 27:18I Hate Talking: They seem to, most of them seem to really like it.
- 27:21I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 27:21I Hate Talking: There will also be 3 matches, one held in each of the following countries, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
- 27:28I Hate Talking: OK.
- 27:29I Hate Talking: And then 2034 will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
- 27:34I Hate Talking: So if they thought it was gonna be hot in the US, I think it's gonna be pretty hot there.
- 27:37I Hate Talking: So maybe they'll need, you know, maybe like 5 hydration breaks a game or something.
- 27:42I Hate Talking: Is that where they had it last time?
- 27:45I Hate Talking: I feel like they had it there.
- 27:46I Hate Talking: Or where they did it somewhere back east in the Middle East.
- 27:50I Hate Talking: It was very hot in Qatar, so maybe that's what you're thinking of, right, which is why, I mean, and it was exceptionally hot.
- 27:58I Hate Talking: The last couple of weeks here in the States, hotter than normal, like record-breaking heat.
- 28:05I Hate Talking: But I don't think they could really know that for sure.
- 28:09I Hate Talking: I think a lot of it was water breaks that were unprecedented were more so for ads, which is such an American thing to make it.
- 28:20I Hate Talking: Uh, money grab.
- 28:22I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 28:23I Hate Talking: So, lots of statistics and thoughts on the World Cup and soccer in general.
- 28:31I Hate Talking: So if you did enjoy this episode, make sure to like, share and subscribe, and you can always send us your thoughts via text message, email, or comment on whatever platform you're listening on.
- 28:43I Hate Talking: And then maybe Toy Story 4 next time.
- 28:46I Hate Talking: We'll see if we have time to get to it.
- 28:49I Hate Talking: We have to watch it.
- 28:50I Hate Talking: We do have to watch it.
- 28:51I Hate Talking: And Toy Story 5, which that may be a longer thing because we don't plan on going to theaters for that.
- 28:57I Hate Talking: No, yeah, we need to, it needs to come to streaming first.
- 29:00I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 29:01I Hate Talking: So from your friends at I Hate Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
