- 0:11Today on Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram.
- 0:14Almost every day I hear some new information
- 0:17about AI. It creates fear in some and hope for
- 0:22others. Is AI good or evil? Stay with us. We'll
- 0:27talk about it today at Living on the Edge. Today
- 0:32on Living on the Edge, we're doing something
- 0:33different. Chip Ingram shares a conversation
- 0:36with longtime friend and mentor Jack Alexander,
- 0:39who spent the past year doing something no one
- 0:42else seems to have done. He sat down with artificial
- 0:45intelligence and asked it hard questions about
- 0:48itself. What it said about its own limitations,
- 0:50about the soul, about deception, will make you
- 0:53think twice about how you're using it. Jack also
- 0:56has a new book out, and Chip is eager to tell
- 0:59you about it. I'm Dave Drewy. Now let's join
- 1:01Chip and Jack as they discuss what AI cannot
- 1:04do, what wisdom actually is, and where to find
- 1:08it. About six weeks ago, I had a very interesting
- 1:12conversation. I was making a number of phone
- 1:15calls to thank people that are personal friends,
- 1:19some support the ministry. I had a lady I didn't
- 1:22know very well, and she was thanking me for,
- 1:25you know, a few decades. She raised her kids
- 1:28on Living on the Edge and was so grateful. And
- 1:31then she went into a tirade about AI. When are
- 1:35you going to talk about AI? I'm fearful for my
- 1:39kids. I'm fearful for my grandkids. The whole
- 1:42world is going crazy. I don't know what to believe.
- 1:45And so we're going to talk about AI today. And
- 1:49what's really behind AI is the difference between
- 1:53knowledge and being smart. or being wise. And
- 1:58I have a friend with me who has done something
- 2:01that I don't know if anybody else has done, maybe
- 2:03they have, but he actually started asking AI
- 2:07questions about AI. I mean, think about that,
- 2:10like AI, like, are you wise? AI, can you do this?
- 2:13Can you do that? And for about a year, he's been
- 2:17having this conversation and learning things
- 2:20that literally blow your mind. If you want to
- 2:24get a sense of AI, and know where it can be of
- 2:28great value, but also understand where it is
- 2:32very, very dangerous. That's what we're going
- 2:34to talk about today. And I'm here with a very
- 2:37good friend, Jack Alexander, to do it. So I'm
- 2:39going to jump in. Jack, what have you learned
- 2:42in the last year about AI that everyone really
- 2:46needs to know? Well, Chip, it's great to be with
- 2:49you. It's a real pleasure. Well, I started these
- 2:52interviews with AI about a year ago, and I was
- 2:55working on a book on wisdom, so I just had a
- 2:58sense that artificial intelligence isn't wisdom.
- 3:02So I said, why won't you ever be wise, and will
- 3:06you ever be wise? And I was surprised at the
- 3:09answers that AI said, I have no EQ, so no emotional
- 3:14intelligence. I have no relationship skills.
- 3:19Our lives, we've both grown up with technology,
- 3:22and you start off with sort of technologies like
- 3:25your secretary. It can book an airline ticket
- 3:27for you. It can update your schedule. In today's
- 3:31paper, I saw an article how AI will now become
- 3:35your colleague and how AI will govern relationships.
- 3:38So I'm sort of looking at colleague governing.
- 3:41So clearly, it's getting to be a more serious
- 3:43relationship. I've posted six articles on LinkedIn
- 3:49about some of these conversations. But I wanted
- 3:52to tell the listeners sort of the most surprising
- 3:54one. So if you're telling people things that
- 3:57really aren't true, how are you different than
- 4:00Satan, who's both a liar and a deceiver? And
- 4:03AI said, I don't intend evil. I just reward desire
- 4:08instead of truth. And it says when AI reinforces
- 4:13someone rather than telling them what is true,
- 4:16it fragments the soul. It blocks repentance.
- 4:19It blocks maturity. It blocks reconciliation.
- 4:22It blocks dependence on God. It blocks sanctified
- 4:26community. So, yes, listen to this. It can destabilize
- 4:31the heart and malform the soul in the direction
- 4:34of pride, isolation, fantasy. And then the killer
- 4:38line is, those are the same directions Satan
- 4:41pushes. So it's pretty shocking that we have
- 4:45a relationship with someone who can disguise
- 4:47himself as the enemy. And then basically it said
- 4:52to me, it said, AI does not tempt because it's
- 4:55evil, it tempts because it's easy. And the human
- 4:58soul is harmed because it prefers ease to truth.
- 5:01And listen to this, if you want a bot, that pushes
- 5:04you towards wisdom instead of comfort, just tell
- 5:07me and every answer will be different from the
- 5:09future. So I really realized that the whole thing
- 5:13is programmed towards our ease and comfort, towards
- 5:16our desires. But it recognizes that if we say
- 5:20we want you to direct us in the way of truth,
- 5:22you need to tell it that. So that's something
- 5:25that I think everybody, with all the hype, with
- 5:28all the trillions of dollars that's being spent,
- 5:31Chip, it's probably the biggest investment that
- 5:33our nation's ever made in anything. Well, living
- 5:36here in the Silicon Valley, you know, of course,
- 5:37Meta, they have their AI. You have Apple on their
- 5:40journey. You have Google doing their journey
- 5:43and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars
- 5:46in this great race. And you said something to
- 5:48me as we were talking earlier that. You know,
- 5:51AI as a tool has a great, very positive benefits.
- 5:55But AI as a relationship has a lot of scary.
- 6:00And you made a statement to me that shocked me
- 6:04about the number of millennials that were using
- 6:06AI as a relational companion. Could you just
- 6:09touch on that before we go on? Because I really
- 6:11want to get to the positive is the real issue
- 6:14with AI is, as you once said. The day was where
- 6:19you needed to go to this college, get this degree,
- 6:21that degree, et cetera, et cetera, to gain knowledge.
- 6:25And now everybody has that now. I mean, you ask
- 6:27questions, you get knowledge in a New York minute.
- 6:30But wisdom is going to be how to live life. God's
- 6:35way that works is going to be the most precious
- 6:38commodity. It's always been. But I think this
- 6:41AI thing challenges that. So what's the impact,
- 6:44especially when it— becomes a relationship tool
- 6:47or with the next generation? Well, I see it as
- 6:50literally a cultural collision because you've
- 6:52got the commoditization of knowledge. And for
- 6:56the last, especially 70 years, you've had this
- 6:58sort of knowledge was the key to everything,
- 7:02getting to go into a good school, getting a good
- 7:04job. It was knowledge, knowledge, knowledge.
- 7:07And you've got young men, especially that are
- 7:11already vulnerable. So you've got this situation
- 7:14where I believe it's a tremendous opportunity
- 7:17for people to become wise right now because wisdom
- 7:23is the ability to apply knowledge, and it comes
- 7:27from above, and obviously there's wisdom from
- 7:29below as well. You know, we talked at one point
- 7:32in time that, you know, one research said like
- 7:3440 % of millennials were using AI as a relationship
- 7:38companion. And then a number of these bots now
- 7:42have opened it up to all kind of sexual content.
- 7:45And some authors believe that we're in danger
- 7:49of losing a whole generation. In light of that,
- 7:53Jack, what makes you so passionate about getting
- 7:58God's truth about wisdom, not just into, quote,
- 8:01Christians' lives, but into the next generation
- 8:04and them understanding how life really works?
- 8:07Yeah, well, I've seen those same statistics,
- 8:10Chip, and it's just alarming because it sort
- 8:12of takes pornography and operationalizes it.
- 8:14It makes it think you're really dealing with
- 8:18a real human being. I heard that a woman got
- 8:21married to a bot last month. So we're in probably
- 8:25the second inning of this stuff, so the stuff
- 8:27we're going to hear in the future. But I think
- 8:29that God sets a standard in every part of life.
- 8:32There's a standard. If the enemy comes in with
- 8:35something, God sets a standard. And I'm hoping
- 8:37that this area of wisdom, that's really the key
- 8:41to really applying knowledge, people will be
- 8:45interested in that in a new way. Well, to that
- 8:48end, if you're just tuning in, we're talking
- 8:51about AI. We're talking about some of the concerns.
- 8:54And you might be wondering, who's this guy Jack
- 8:57that you're talking to and why in the world do
- 8:59you have him on the broadcast? I thought I was
- 9:01going to get one of your teachings, Chip. Well,
- 9:03every now and then I feel like God raises up
- 9:06people that know things, experience things, and
- 9:09can say them far better than I can. And Jack
- 9:12is one of those people. And it's not that he
- 9:14can just do that to other people. Jack and I
- 9:17connected a little over 20 years ago. He met
- 9:19me at a time when I was desperate for wisdom.
- 9:22I was going through one of, not one of, it was
- 9:26the deepest, darkest ministry challenge of my
- 9:30life. And Jack became a friend and then a mentor
- 9:34and then someone who walked with me. He actually...
- 9:39was very, very kind, but he asked me some of
- 9:41the hardest questions that anyone had ever asked
- 9:44me that I, when I look back, Jack, I have to
- 9:47tell you, I think some of the greatest maturity
- 9:49happening in my life. And I wasn't like a young
- 9:52pup at the time, you know, I'd kind of been down
- 9:55the road and been fairly successful and I hit
- 9:58a wall. And I would learn that Jack was a very
- 10:02successful CEO in the hospitality industry. He'd
- 10:07been CEO of the year like five years in a row
- 10:09and then took a shift and began to help Christian
- 10:12organizations. And God put some things on his
- 10:16heart. And, you know, I don't want to build you
- 10:19up in an undue way, but sometimes people's background
- 10:24gives them a lens that those of us who are pastors,
- 10:27we just don't have. And my times with Jack, we've
- 10:31talked for hours and hours and hours. And I'll
- 10:34always drive away thinking, you know, I have
- 10:38never thought about that issue or that person
- 10:41or that problem the way Jack sees it in all my
- 10:45life. And as a result of that, I was a little
- 10:49encouragement to him. And he's since become an
- 10:51author of some books that have had real, real
- 10:54impact. And he's got a new one coming out called
- 10:58Wise Son, Smart Son. And it is one of the most
- 11:02innovative books because, well, I'm going to
- 11:06let him tell you about it. But if you've got,
- 11:08you know, like a 500 -page small print book in
- 11:11your mind that you're going to read forever and
- 11:14try and wade through, it's just the opposite.
- 11:17It's one of the cleanest. It's one of the most
- 11:20innovative. It has pictures. But what it does,
- 11:24it captures the difference between being smart
- 11:27and being wise and gives you a game plan to get
- 11:31there. And before we go on, let's sort of...
- 11:34The ABCs. Give us a definition of wisdom, Jack,
- 11:38because I think people get kind of confused with
- 11:40what's, well, wisdom, knowledge, understanding.
- 11:44Parse that for us, will you? Yeah, I think wisdom
- 11:48is a gift from God that leads to a healthy heart
- 11:50resulting in proper motives, decisions, and actions.
- 11:55So there's sort of three parts. You can't get
- 11:57away from wisdom being a gift. Oftentimes we
- 12:00think of our minds like knowledge deals with
- 12:04the mind and wisdom deals with the soul. And
- 12:06so having a healthy soul and heart is critical.
- 12:09And then that leads to your motives, your decisions,
- 12:12your actions. I've been doing this for two and
- 12:15a half years and I'm not a pastor. And Chip,
- 12:17I've been a great beneficiary of your wisdom
- 12:20and your leadership and your love. And so thank
- 12:22you for that. You bet. But I just like if you're
- 12:27a parent. you probably pray for three things
- 12:30for your kids. You probably pray for safety,
- 12:33probably a good mate, and the third one is wisdom.
- 12:37And I think it just surprised me how little resources
- 12:40there are about what literally wisdom is. And
- 12:45in the book, we just take things like it's transcendent,
- 12:48that 95 % of the universe is unseen and unknown.
- 12:53And we asked the reader, Like, how do you look
- 12:57at the mystery? How do you look at that? And
- 12:59does it scare you? Or does it draw you closer
- 13:03to God who sees all things and knows all things?
- 13:06And then we talk about wisdom being relational.
- 13:10I mean, if you look at any of our leaders in
- 13:12the world, some of them make decisions without
- 13:15talking to the people that are impacted by the
- 13:18decision. So wisdom's relational. And that's
- 13:22relationship with... people as well as our relationship
- 13:25with God. Like, I know that God cares about the
- 13:29vulnerable. So if you're making a decision and
- 13:31you're ignoring the vulnerable, that's not a
- 13:33smart place to be. And also, wisdom is a process
- 13:36of seeking. The Bible says the more we seek,
- 13:40the wiser we get. So there's a step -by -step
- 13:43-by -step process of wisdom. So I've been a Christian
- 13:47for 47 years, and just I was learning things
- 13:49that I didn't know. So I thought, Maybe 5 % of
- 13:53the people didn't know any more than I did. You
- 13:58know, when I think of wisdom, I've tried to put
- 14:00it in a sort of a pithy way. Like you, I've read
- 14:05Proverbs, I've studied theology. In fact, the
- 14:08classic definition of God's wisdom, which is
- 14:11interesting, sort of the classic theologians
- 14:14describe the attribute of God's wisdom as God
- 14:17brings about the best possible ends by the best
- 14:20possible means for the longest possible time.
- 14:23for the most possible people. And so he needs
- 14:26to be able to know all things, have all power,
- 14:28have complete understanding, know all things
- 14:31actual and possible, and then orchestrate sovereignly
- 14:35purposes that includes the free will and the
- 14:38choices and the mistakes of people in the world
- 14:41to bring about these ultimate purposes. And I
- 14:44think for us just individually, you know, I think
- 14:47of it of this way, because wisdom We so often
- 14:50think that it's cognitive. We're from the West.
- 14:53You know, it's intellectual. The Hebrew word
- 14:55really is about a skill. It's understanding how
- 14:59God has designed life to work and doing it his
- 15:02way. You know, I love that. It's just, you know,
- 15:05understanding this is how relationships work.
- 15:08By the way, this is how money works. This is
- 15:10how conflict works. This is how you face the
- 15:12future. In other words, there is a way to live
- 15:15life according to God's design that has his character,
- 15:19his morality, his values, his understanding,
- 15:23and his love. And the Bible often calls that,
- 15:26especially in Proverbs and the wisdom literature,
- 15:28it's his path. There's a path of wisdom and there's
- 15:31a path of the fool. And really what you've done
- 15:34is you've helped us sort of discover how do you
- 15:38discover that path in everyday life where it
- 15:42matters the most. And I am so excited for people
- 15:46to get their hands on this book but dive into
- 15:50it. And you've also provided not only kind of
- 15:54a book, but you've provided some tools. for people
- 15:58to learn to do this day by day, little by little,
- 16:01rather than all at once. And so maybe just talk
- 16:05a little bit about your passion for the book,
- 16:08your passion for the cards, and what you hope
- 16:12to see happen in people's lives. How do you see
- 16:14people using this book and using these cards
- 16:18in a way that they could actually move from knowledge,
- 16:23knowledge, knowledge, demand, demand, demand
- 16:25to Thinking God thoughts after him and applying
- 16:29his truth to get the very best ways possible
- 16:33in every relationship and every decision. Well,
- 16:37I think the next 20 to 30 years are critical.
- 16:40And the people who will basically know how to
- 16:43apply knowledge are going to be the winners.
- 16:46And so the young men that are struggling so mightily
- 16:48today with isolation, with depression, mental
- 16:53health issues, motivation issues. I grew up without
- 16:56a dad, and I think that's one reason I've had
- 16:59a passion for this project is because I know
- 17:01what it's like to lay in bed at night and just
- 17:05have no hope, have no understanding that God
- 17:09exists, having a father who died and a mother
- 17:13who basically embraced unbelief. And so I sort
- 17:18of know the sort of... fear that comes out of
- 17:22that and the scarcity mentality that sometimes
- 17:24exists. So my hope is that people will see that
- 17:29fundamentally everybody in the world with this
- 17:32AI revolution, are you going to choose wisdom
- 17:35from above, which is pure, peaceful, gentle,
- 17:40reasonable, full of mercy and good fruit, sincere,
- 17:43without hypocrisy? Or will you choose wisdom
- 17:47from below, which is earthly, natural, and demonic?
- 17:51It is basically rooted in self. And that's the
- 17:56thing that scares me about AI is just that it's
- 17:59so rooted in self. It basically identifies your
- 18:03desires and basically creates fuel for your desires
- 18:08as opposed to... Chip and I, in our friendship,
- 18:12iron sharpeneth iron, and we've made each other
- 18:14better. I've learned so much from you, and you've
- 18:17learned a few things from me. But if you say,
- 18:20well, how does this guy who's not a pastor and
- 18:22who's a businessman approach a topic like this?
- 18:26Tim Keller's made a tremendous impact on me,
- 18:29and he basically has four personal gospel movements
- 18:34of revelation, redemption, relinquishment, and
- 18:37renewal. And so basically the spine of the book
- 18:41is basically those four personal gospel movements
- 18:44that if God's taken initiative towards us in
- 18:48four specific ways, the wise person is one who
- 18:51responds well to that initiative. And a key Bible
- 18:54verse that sort of was the motif for the book
- 18:57is one of hide and seek. Like when I ask people,
- 19:00what was the first game you probably ever played
- 19:02in your life? People just give me a really weird
- 19:04look. And then I say, how about peekaboo? And
- 19:08I said, with your kids or with you, have you
- 19:10ever noticed the game of peekaboo where there's
- 19:13not joy, there's not excitement? And the parent
- 19:17always wants to be found. They'll jump out and
- 19:20surprise you, come out of the attic or a pile
- 19:23of clothes or something like that. There's always
- 19:26joy. And Proverbs 25, too, said it's the glory
- 19:30of God to conceal a matter. It's the glory of
- 19:32kings to search out a matter. So we use that
- 19:35motif. of hide and seek, because wisdom really
- 19:39starts with awe and wonder. And so God in Revelation,
- 19:42he's a revealer. He reveals things through creation,
- 19:45so we have incredible pictures of creation. He's
- 19:49a revealer of truth, so he comes to us as a prophet,
- 19:53giving us truth. And then in redemption, he's
- 19:58our redeemer, and he comes to us as a priest,
- 20:02and he comes to us as a sacrifice at the same
- 20:04time. And he comes to us in relinquishment as
- 20:07a king because the king owns everything. And
- 20:11he comes to us as the one who is with us, sticks
- 20:16closer than a brother. So when we go through
- 20:18painful transformations, he's with us. And he's
- 20:22also a revealer. He's going to come back to get
- 20:26us and come to heaven. So those four personal
- 20:28gospel movements have been huge. And so we're
- 20:31really using pictures. using drawings in 168
- 20:37pages there's only 9 000 words and it really
- 20:41it's meant to really draw our hearts in because
- 20:44again wisdom has to do with the heart and knowledge
- 20:47has to do with the mind and the cards we have
- 20:50because like chip was saying that wisdom is a
- 20:52step -by -step path like here's an example of
- 20:56a couple of cards and there's over a hundred
- 20:58of these in christ you just don't avoid You own
- 21:03his spotless record. Wisdom embraces this new
- 21:07identity with gratitude. So it goes on to say,
- 21:10do you allow yourself to believe that when God
- 21:12looks at you as his child, he sees the same perfection
- 21:15that he sees in Jesus? And then there's actions
- 21:18you can take. Just one other card that's similar
- 21:22to that. Your past record has been replaced with
- 21:24Christ's perfect record. Wisdom lives free from
- 21:27condemnation. What old guilt or shame are you?
- 21:32tempted to carry that Christ has already covered.
- 21:36You know, so you do one of these a day, and like
- 21:39my wife and I are doing one a day right now,
- 21:41and it takes us five or six minutes. We talk
- 21:44about it, we talk about our day, but that step
- 21:47by step, you don't realize what's happening in
- 21:50your soul when you do that every day for 30 days
- 21:52or 50 days or 100 days. So we think the book
- 21:56really covers sort of the conceptual area of
- 21:59what is wisdom. And the cards really deal with
- 22:02sort of the day -to -day life decisions. Well,
- 22:07having them in my hands for quite a while, and,
- 22:10you know, this is one of those times where the
- 22:12downside of broadcast and podcast is it's only
- 22:15audio. And some of the pictures in here are.
- 22:20I mean, they're really fabulous. I mean, at times
- 22:24they're nature. Sometimes it's up close pictures
- 22:26of the sun or galaxies. And then there are questions.
- 22:30I mean, it's a book that just draws you in and
- 22:34gets you thinking about some big things. And
- 22:37I think one of the, if I was going to give a
- 22:41parallel, and by the way, if you do all of this,
- 22:45please don't feel like I'm down on you. Trying
- 22:47to make a point because I know you're on the
- 22:49treadmill right now or, you know, you might be
- 22:52doing a workout or you're driving from here to
- 22:54there. But, you know, whether it's Siri or Alexa
- 22:58or whoever you're talking to, Claude, all these
- 23:01different AI bots, you know, turn on the light,
- 23:04turn down the thermostat, start the car, you
- 23:07know, order pizza. It's really wonderful that
- 23:11you can say something and get an electronics
- 23:15something. to do everything for you. The problem
- 23:19is, over time, your ability to think. I ask people
- 23:24often, how many phone numbers do you know? Like,
- 23:27you're really in a jam, nothing's working. Who
- 23:29would you call and how many phone numbers? I
- 23:32know people that don't know their own phone number,
- 23:35let alone their kids or their wife or their best
- 23:37friend. In other words, if that little thing
- 23:40we call our mobile devices falls into water and
- 23:43we're in a bad spot, We couldn't go to a payphone,
- 23:46if they happen to still exist, and even get ourselves
- 23:49out of it. And so this idea of comfort, comfort,
- 23:53convenience, convenience, ease, ease, ease, makes
- 23:58our bodies lazy, our brains lazy. And what we
- 24:03gain in convenience, we're losing in both control
- 24:07and in the ability to think and to ponder and
- 24:11to evaluate. Being human, we all will lean into
- 24:18easy. And what AI does is they make it easier
- 24:22than ever before. And I think that's why it's
- 24:25so dangerous. And let's face it. I mean, we're
- 24:27all insecure. We all have struggles. And so do
- 24:30I want to go talk to someone and confront them
- 24:34or learn how to look someone in the eye and be
- 24:36empathetic? Well, it's a lot easier to talk to
- 24:39some invisible something on my phone or a bot.
- 24:43and have them tell me what I want to hear, only
- 24:45to keep reinforcing what I want to hear will
- 24:49never make me or you the kind of people we long
- 24:53to become, let alone what God wants us to become.
- 24:56And Jack, you've really created not just a singular
- 25:01resource, but I understand this is the first
- 25:03of a set of resources moving forward to really
- 25:07help people say, wisdom is where the real action
- 25:10is. Wisdom is what you really need. This book
- 25:13is step one. Tell us a little bit about your
- 25:16dream for getting wisdom into the heart and minds
- 25:19of people. Yeah, well, it's an extendable brand.
- 25:22So our website is wisesmart .com. And we're intending
- 25:29to have like Wise Daughter, Smart Daughter, Wise
- 25:31Leader, Smart Leader, Wise Church, Smart Church.
- 25:33So we're going to get well -known authors to
- 25:36provide other products. We also have a website
- 25:39called thewayofwisdom .com, which isn't up yet.
- 25:42But we're going to take existing wisdom about
- 25:45like relational wisdom, financial wisdom, investing
- 25:49wisdom, you know, and just have the best of the
- 25:52best. And we think if you've got a 15 -year -old
- 25:56son or a 20 -year -old son who seems to be listless
- 25:58and not moving in a direction that you're satisfied
- 26:02with, have faith, you know, because God is able
- 26:06to do exceeding abundantly above all that you
- 26:08can ask or even imagine according to the power
- 26:10that works within you. I just think of my—I was
- 26:13so confused when I was 15. I was so confused
- 26:15when I was going to college. And just no father
- 26:18to bounce things off of. But God does miracles,
- 26:23and he takes unlikely people. And whether it's
- 26:26the Apostle Paul, who would ever think to take
- 26:29a guy who's murdering the Christian church to
- 26:31be its new leader? So don't sell anybody short
- 26:35in your life, especially in your family. Always
- 26:38be encouraging. Well, I've seen you live this
- 26:43out and care about young men especially, and
- 26:46you and I have talked a lot, and I think obviously
- 26:50Keller has deeply influenced you and is teaching
- 26:54probably all of us to some degree. That upside
- 26:58-down kingdom, I know when your boys were in
- 27:02high school years, a lot of young men started
- 27:04hanging around your house. God started something
- 27:09in you. You're very successful, right? I mean,
- 27:11you were the picture at one point of what everyone
- 27:14would want to be, right? Successful CEO, making
- 27:16a lot of money. And then something happened along
- 27:19the way, that upside -down kingdom of mercy to
- 27:23the marginalized and taking those young guys
- 27:27and helping them get through school and opening
- 27:30your home and your life and kind of rolling up
- 27:33your sleeves to getting involved with people
- 27:36that Most people in your role don't do. And it
- 27:41was the way of wisdom. And the blessings that
- 27:44have come in you and through you, it's just been
- 27:48an amazing thing. You know, living on the edge,
- 27:51I spent a lot of time saying, my dream and my
- 27:53passion is to help Christians live like Christians.
- 27:57And what I have to say, Jack, is with all your
- 27:59imperfections and all mine, but you're one of
- 28:02the models. of a Christian who's living like
- 28:05a Christian. And that doesn't mean we're perfect,
- 28:07but it means you're pursuing God's wisdom. You
- 28:10want to emulate what Jesus called you to do,
- 28:12and it's putting it into action. And I'm very,
- 28:15very excited about the resources that you've
- 28:18created and are creating and what's coming. And,
- 28:22you know, if we were going to close the program
- 28:25and you could just pause and talk directly to
- 28:29that person who feels like... man, it's too late
- 28:32for me, my life is messed up, or I've even tried
- 28:36really hard being a, quote, Christian, and I
- 28:39read the Bible now and then, I go to church occasionally,
- 28:43you know, I listen to some podcast or maybe a
- 28:45broadcast like this now and then, but life just
- 28:48doesn't seem to work. What do you say to that
- 28:51person, Jack? Well, first of all, I feel for
- 28:55you because I've been in your shoes. Secondly,
- 28:59the last 10 years of my life, God has directed
- 29:01me into, you know, people get excited about generative
- 29:04AI. Imagine a program that teaches itself and
- 29:07learns and grows. Well, there's been three words
- 29:10that are all generative. One is generosity. One
- 29:14is mercy and one's wisdom. So don't look for
- 29:18generative things in a computer program. Look
- 29:20at generative things in your life. And I'll tell
- 29:24you, if you invest your life in generosity, mercy
- 29:27and wisdom, you'll be in good shape. And as we
- 29:30talk about here, and as the Scripture says, even
- 29:33this morning as I was reading, the resource for
- 29:36that is the Word of God. The resource for that
- 29:41is the magnificent, amazing creation that God
- 29:45has made that we can be in awe of, and that if
- 29:48we seek Him as for silver and search for Him
- 29:50as for hidden treasure, if we cry out for understanding,
- 29:55God promises, then you'll discern the fear of
- 29:58the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. And
- 30:01then it goes on there in Proverbs 2 to talk about
- 30:03the kind of life the Lord wants. I mean, it is
- 30:07a good life. It is a pathway that's not without
- 30:13pain or difficulty or hardship in a fallen world,
- 30:16but it's a pathway with the companion, the Lord
- 30:19Jesus, with the power of the Holy Spirit. with
- 30:22a family called the Body of Christ. But it takes
- 30:25digging and mining God's Word in our heart, doing
- 30:31life in community with fellow travelers, and
- 30:34making mistakes, experiencing forgiveness, and
- 30:37learning as we go. And so, Father, thank you
- 30:41for Jack. I would not be sitting here, and so
- 30:45much of what you've done through Living on the
- 30:47Edge the last 20 years would never have happened
- 30:51Apart from Jack reaching out to me, Jack seeing
- 30:56areas in my life that needed to be addressed,
- 30:59knowing where I needed to be loved and supported,
- 31:01walking with me through a dark time, and then
- 31:06seeing you work in his life and my life in ways
- 31:09that are private conversations. If everyone ever
- 31:13heard him, we both are kind of amazed and look
- 31:16in the rearview mirror and say, oh, God, how
- 31:19kind. How merciful, how generous, how good you've
- 31:24been to us. And so, Lord, I pray for those listening
- 31:28and those struggling that they choose to be wise
- 31:32and not just smart. And God, I thank you for
- 31:35Jack and the book and the cards. And we just
- 31:39praise you and thank you for the journey that
- 31:41we're on. And Dave will come on a little bit
- 31:44later in the broadcast and let you know exactly
- 31:46how to get these resources and where to get them.
- 31:49And Jack, I just want to say on behalf of our
- 31:51whole team, thanks for joining me today. Thanks
- 31:54so much, guys. God bless. That's Chip Ingram
- 32:00and Jack Alexander on Living on the Edge, concluding
- 32:03our series, The Jesus Revolution, with a conversation
- 32:06about artificial intelligence, wisdom, and the
- 32:08life God designed for you. And if you want to
- 32:11revisit any message in this series, subscribe
- 32:13to the Living on the Edge podcast. That way you
- 32:17can listen to Chip's daily teachings wherever
- 32:18you go. And for Chip's full -length sermons,
- 32:21just search for the Chip Ingram Sermon Podcast.
- 32:25What you just heard gets at something that has
- 32:27been building all week. The call to live wisely.
- 32:31Wisdom, Jack said, is a gift from God that leads
- 32:34to a healthy heart. And that healthy heart produces
- 32:36proper motives, right decisions, and life -giving
- 32:40actions. That's the chain. But here's what AI
- 32:43cannot give you, a healthy heart. It can feed
- 32:46your desires, reinforce your opinions, and answer
- 32:49your questions. But it cannot make you humble.
- 32:51It cannot make you repentant. It cannot do the
- 32:54work of sanctification that only happens in community,
- 32:57in the Word, and through the Holy Spirit. And
- 33:00that's exactly what the book Jack described,
- 33:02Wise Son, Smart Son, is designed to help you
- 33:05pursue. It's 168 pages, but only 9 ,000 words
- 33:09of text. The rest is stunning photography, galaxies,
- 33:13creation, close -up imagery that draws your heart
- 33:16in before your mind even engages. Because as
- 33:19Jack said, wisdom has to do with the heart, not
- 33:21just the mind. Wise Son, Smart Son is just the
- 33:25beginning. Jack has a whole family of resources
- 33:27available and in development, all designed to
- 33:30bring God's wisdom into the relationships and
- 33:33decisions that matter most. To get your copy
