- 0:53Sean McAllister: Spin that wheel.
- 1:03Dayna Roselli: Welcome everyone to episode 196 of Vegas Revealed.
- 1:06Dayna Roselli: I'm Dana Roselli, along with Sean McAllister, and boy, what a week it has been.
- 1:11Dayna Roselli: We wrapped up Formula One, our first inaugural race here in Las Vegas.
- 1:16Sean McAllister: And overall, with the exception of a water valve cover disrupting the first trial run, it seemed to go relatively smoothly.
- 1:27Dayna Roselli: I think the after thoughts from everyone, even in the racing world, it seems to be like it was a hit.
- 1:33Dayna Roselli: I mean, they loved it.
- 1:34Dayna Roselli: It was different.
- 1:35Dayna Roselli: We had a lot more entertainment than maybe some of the races normally have.
- 1:38Dayna Roselli: A lot of glitz and glam, a lot of celebrities.
- 1:41Dayna Roselli: We had David Beckham here in Brad Pitt and Danica Patrick in Shaquille O'Neal in Paris Hilton, and the list goes on and on and on.
- 1:49Sean McAllister: Well, and Brad Pitt himself even said that he thinks F1 is here to stay in Las Vegas.
- 1:54Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 1:55Sean McAllister: You're here, formula One.
- 1:56Sean McAllister: Yeah, we're so happy to be here.
- 1:57Sean McAllister: What do you think of it?
- 1:59Sean McAllister: It's just really exciting.
- 2:00Sean McAllister: I think the sticks, I think it's a good one, so he seemed to enjoy it.
- 2:04Dayna Roselli: The Bebes Justin Bieber was what he had, like the flag.
- 2:07Sean McAllister: the checkered flag.
- 2:08Sean McAllister: Rihanna was here.
- 2:09Sean McAllister: It was packed.
- 2:11Dayna Roselli: It was.
- 2:11Dayna Roselli: We have so many thoughts and we know you all do out there in social media too.
- 2:15Dayna Roselli: On social media, I should say it's been quite a week with a lot of back and forth, a lot of positive, a lot of negative, and it looks like those two sides coming at it, especially on Twitter, which is now X.
- 2:26Dayna Roselli: But I was going to say we got a lot of you know what do you say now?
- 2:30Dayna Roselli: You got a lot of X's, a lot of tweets.
- 2:33Sean McAllister: No, it's still tweets.
- 2:34Sean McAllister: It's still tweets for us, and it's still mean tweets when that applies which is what we dealt with and we'll get into that.
- 2:41Dayna Roselli: I know we have so much to talk about really, but we did get to go to opening ceremonies and that was a joy, and then we were able to go to one of the practice rounds on Friday night, the 8.30 slot.
- 2:52Dayna Roselli: So we have a lot to talk about.
- 2:55Dayna Roselli: We want to point out, though first, you know, last week, when we had the episode where we interviewed Mark Chinook and we talked about F1, we actually recorded that before we ever A knew we were going to be able to go to F1.
- 3:07Dayna Roselli: And B before F1 weekend.
- 3:11Dayna Roselli: So our thoughts have always been this has not changed going into F1, the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with a positive edge.
- 3:21Dayna Roselli: You know we all dealt with the traffic.
- 3:24Dayna Roselli: It has been a disruption for our town, but both you and I said and we chatted with Mark about it last week like let's be positive, let's see what happens, and that's what we did.
- 3:33Sean McAllister: And judge the event itself based on just the event itself and not any of the outlying issues that people may have faced and frustrations, all that.
- 3:45Sean McAllister: I think.
- 3:47Sean McAllister: Overall, each of us has the impression that it was a really well done event.
- 3:53Dayna Roselli: It was.
- 3:53Dayna Roselli: I mean, listen, and we were very lucky to be able to go to the Skybox and see the setup, which you know is that whole paddock area there at Harmon and Koval, and we were in awe.
- 4:06Dayna Roselli: I could tell by your face, my face, my friend Melissa's face, your husband we were just like wow, this is gorgeous.
- 4:11Dayna Roselli: Like where did this come from?
- 4:13Dayna Roselli: And then on the way in, you know the whole vibe there it was really relaxed, people were just enjoying themselves and there were people at every corner that you turned there to help you.
- 4:22Dayna Roselli: So all those temporary workers, they made such a difference.
- 4:26Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 4:27Sean McAllister: And there were over 7,000 Las Vegas locals who were hired to work at F1 in various venues around the course.
- 4:38Sean McAllister: So I mean that's a big deal in and of itself, but it did make it so much easier to get around, especially for a new infrastructure.
- 4:48Sean McAllister: You don't know what gate to go to, you don't know where to go once you're inside the gate, and everybody was so helpful and pointing you in the right direction and making sure that you had a really good experience.
- 5:01Sean McAllister: Everyone was really the workers were really really friendly.
- 5:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and they were easy to find because they had these, these like poles that they were holding that said ask me.
- 5:09Dayna Roselli: So you're like you know, you didn't have to go search for someone.
- 5:12Dayna Roselli: We had some great servers too.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: They were amazing and, like I said, we were invited, so we were able to take it in, mostly for free, so that we could experience and see firsthand what F1 was like.
- 5:24Dayna Roselli: We really wanted to see the track and the race at least the practice the cars actually doing a run let's put it that way, because we had never witnessed it in person.
- 5:34Dayna Roselli: You and I have been to NASCAR many times and we loved it, but we were throwing tips around here all over because we knew that we were invited and the staff was so great.
- 5:44Dayna Roselli: We were just so impressed by everyone.
- 5:46Sean McAllister: So they were, and so it was a great event, and we know that F1 is coming back again next year.
- 5:54Sean McAllister: We already have the dates November 21st through 23rd of 2024.
- 5:59Sean McAllister: We can expect it back again, and they're accepting ticket deposits already as well.
- 6:06Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and we had that on Twitter.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: Everyone's like.
- 6:07Dayna Roselli: We knew that it was a 10-year.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: I'm like I know, but there were a lot of people on Twitter that were saying, oh, the race isn't coming back, this is going to be the final year, and it's like, no, it's not.
- 6:16Dayna Roselli: But so a little reminder, it's still on.
- 6:19Dayna Roselli: Everything's moving forward.
- 6:20Dayna Roselli: Everyone can calm down, Gosh, there's so much to talk about.
- 6:24Dayna Roselli: I don't even think we could go through all of it as far as what our experience was like.
- 6:28Dayna Roselli: But let's just hit the opening ceremony because, listen, we love entertainment.
- 6:32Dayna Roselli: We have an entertainment podcast, and so you and I were really impressed to see what was it like eight performers in a row doing?
- 6:38Dayna Roselli: I actually saw an interview with Journey and they said they asked them to perform and they said you have the longest slot.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: And they said how long is our slot?
- 6:43Dayna Roselli: And they said like two minutes and 13 seconds Because they moved them right along.
- 6:48Dayna Roselli: But it was so cool how they moved them right along.
- 6:51Dayna Roselli: It was like 30 seconds from Mars, Kylie Minogue, Journey, Keith Urban, Will I Am and it just kept going and going and going and orchestrated to lights and J Balvin and then drones in the sky creating this Welcome to Las Vegas sign and fireworks, and what a site.
- 7:10Dayna Roselli: And it was so organized because it was on TV.
- 7:13Sean McAllister: Right, and what was cool about it is that instead of having performers on a single stage or on multiple stages, they essentially those video rolling billboards that you see going up and down the strip.
- 7:28Sean McAllister: It was kind of like there were those big mobile video screens that were lined up down the track and there were elevators that would bring the performers up to the top of those.
- 7:41Sean McAllister: So they were each performing on the top of a different massive video screen there right on the track.
- 7:48Sean McAllister: So it was a really neat way to display all of the entertainers who were there.
- 7:58Dayna Roselli: It was really cool.
- 7:58Dayna Roselli: We've seen a lot.
- 7:59Dayna Roselli: I've been, you know, to like multiple.
- 8:02Dayna Roselli: I think I've been live on the strip at least 10 times for New Year's Eve and that is spectacular, it's just different.
- 8:08Dayna Roselli: So I put out this tweet that said it was one of the best things I've ever seen in Vegas and I got attacked Mostly a lot of positive, but like attacked as in like nasty comments, okay, and people say, well, what an over sound, we're being trolled.
- 8:22Dayna Roselli: Well, what is a troll?
- 8:23Dayna Roselli: People are allowed to have differing opinions.
- 8:25Dayna Roselli: So it's like, well, they are.
- 8:26Dayna Roselli: But if they keep coming at you over and over and over again and giving you memes that have the fingers sticking up, and it's like, listen, here's the deal with us, okay.
- 8:35Dayna Roselli: And here's the deal I can speak for myself on myself.
- 8:38Dayna Roselli: I don't talk about it if I don't like it.
- 8:40Dayna Roselli: So if you hear me go silent about something or don't see me talk about it at all, it probably means I didn't love it.
- 8:45Dayna Roselli: I'm only putting out there what I honestly feel and if I like something and if I kinda liked it, I will point out.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: Here were some of the positives.
- 8:55Dayna Roselli: I wish this was better.
- 8:57Dayna Roselli: That's me.
- 8:58Dayna Roselli: It's always been me, nothing different.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: So, yeah, it was one of the best things I've ever seen in Vegas and I'm sticking to it.
- 9:04Sean McAllister: Well, and here's the other thing is that we, being longtime Las Vegas locals, being longtime journalists, broadcasters and, admittedly, cheerleaders for the city of Las Vegas, for all of Las Vegas, we like to see things succeed and to have things succeed.
- 9:28Sean McAllister: Sure, you can look at different situations critically, but you don't have to make overt attempts at being negative over and over and over about every single thing and decision and move that's made.
- 9:46Sean McAllister: You don't have to do that.
- 9:48Dayna Roselli: People couldn't go up the escalators.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: It was negative.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: Too many people on the escalators Two minutes.
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: The line was too long for the monorail.
- 9:55Dayna Roselli: I'm like, oh my gosh, everything.
- 9:58Sean McAllister: It was everything I mean.
- 10:00Sean McAllister: I think there are absolutely certain things that are fair to criticize with the way that certain things went in Las Vegas leading up to the F1 race, but overall I mean looking at it from a positive side.
- 10:21Sean McAllister: I mean it did bring some great things to Las Vegas.
- 10:26Dayna Roselli: It did.
- 10:26Dayna Roselli: And I just wanna address another thing.
- 10:28Dayna Roselli: People always say well, it's different for you, it's easy in and out.
- 10:31Dayna Roselli: That's not, and somebody wrote me that and I said no, that's not true, we had to.
- 10:35Dayna Roselli: We sit and we looked up a map and figured everything out and decided Ubering there and back was the best for us.
- 10:41Dayna Roselli: We actually Ubered to Virgin and walked, and we did it on the way back, and normally sometimes we'll go to a show, sean and I'll take the monorail and we walk.
- 10:51Dayna Roselli: We walk to get to the monorail from the Westgate up the thing, we walk through the, we walk across the street.
- 10:58Dayna Roselli: We are not, we don't have a limo driver, we don't have car service.
- 11:02Dayna Roselli: We are experiencing, in some ways, what normal people are experiencing when it comes to some of these things.
- 11:10Dayna Roselli: However, yes, we are taking places where and given the opportunity to witness things so that we can share them with you, and sometimes Sean and I'll look at each other and go.
- 11:21Dayna Roselli: I don't get it, but we understand that some things that we've been to it might be for somebody else.
- 11:27Dayna Roselli: It doesn't mean that it's for us, but we don't get it.
- 11:31Dayna Roselli: But you know what?
- 11:31Dayna Roselli: I can see why people like this, that kind of thing Exactly.
- 11:35Dayna Roselli: We enjoyed the opening ceremony.
- 11:37Dayna Roselli: It was spectacular, I loved it.
- 11:39Dayna Roselli: I just thought it really was.
- 11:40Dayna Roselli: I always think like, how can we top the year before or this event or that event, and it's like, wow, this, it was stunning and that's how we started out F1.
- 11:49Dayna Roselli: And then everyone saying, well, you're backing the race.
- 11:52Dayna Roselli: I had nothing to do with the race, talking about opening ceremony was gorgeous, it was cool and I just loved it.
- 11:59Sean McAllister: And just to clear up some things that people were asking about on social media no, we, neither of us, was paid by F1 to say positive things.
- 12:09Sean McAllister: Neither of us was paid by.
- 12:12Sean McAllister: Las Vegas to say positive things.
- 12:17Sean McAllister: It was our experience and our choice to look at things positively rather than continuously taking a negative take on things.
- 12:30Dayna Roselli: And we had some lovely waitresses that were working.
- 12:32Dayna Roselli: We were throwing 20,.
- 12:33Dayna Roselli: We gave our Uber driver a $40 extra cash tip.
- 12:37Dayna Roselli: People were working in frust and they had to.
- 12:40Dayna Roselli: They worked hard, they had to get around and we appreciate all of that and I'm not telling you how much we we threw all these.
- 12:45Dayna Roselli: I'm just saying that we appreciated the front.
- 12:48Dayna Roselli: You know that everyone was there with a smile on and just trying their best to get through the weekend because initially, from a distance, we saw so much construction and traffic and frustration that I think people went in thinking this is gonna be a disaster.
- 13:04Dayna Roselli: You know, and it was more of like a thank you, thank you to our community for coming together and let's see how it goes In the end.
- 13:12Dayna Roselli: I think most people enjoyed it.
- 13:14Sean McAllister: I think so too.
- 13:14Sean McAllister: And then just to put a point on, you know all of it.
- 13:19Sean McAllister: You know I likened everything with F1 to a kitchen remodel.
- 13:25Sean McAllister: When you're in the middle of that remodel, your kitchen is torn apart.
- 13:30Sean McAllister: Your microwave is over on top of a box in the corner.
- 13:34Sean McAllister: That's your only cooking device.
- 13:35Sean McAllister: When you're living through that, that is frustrating and you know some people say, well, it's like living through hell when your kitchen's all torn apart.
- 13:46Sean McAllister: But, when the remodel is done, you're like oh, look at this new kitchen and like I feel like that's where we are now with F1.
- 13:55Sean McAllister: We went through all the frustrating stuff.
- 13:57Sean McAllister: The event itself was terrific.
- 14:01Sean McAllister: It's coming back.
- 14:02Sean McAllister: The eyes of the world over 100 million people tuned in around the world to watch the race here in Las Vegas, and so now we have that shiny new kitchen.
- 14:13Dayna Roselli: We do and you know what I think you know for the people that went and people say, well, the tickets came down, but that meant a lot of people like that didn't think they were able to go could go.
- 14:24Dayna Roselli: I saw a lot of people on social media and all platforms saying, you know, we went at the last minute or we went down there and we hung out even close by and it was fun.
- 14:32Dayna Roselli: And I also know that people are saying, well, some businesses were hurt.
- 14:36Dayna Roselli: And that may be true, but I also did get a tweet from someone who said my business actually thrived on that weekend that I didn't normally get a lot of business.
- 14:45Dayna Roselli: So it depends and it was different and it was the first time.
- 14:49Dayna Roselli: So we don't know what to expect.
- 14:51Dayna Roselli: We don't know who's gonna thrive, who's not.
- 14:53Dayna Roselli: You know, and it was one weekend and so we're gonna figure that out.
- 14:57Dayna Roselli: People are gonna know now, maybe to tweak things, maybe, maybe, maybe you give your if you were completely dead and you're off the strip or whatever, maybe give people a couple of days off and then you really kick it up leading up to it or after, I don't know.
- 15:11Dayna Roselli: But we're gonna have to make adjustments and go with the flow.
- 15:14Sean McAllister: Well, and I think those are the kinds of things that you don't know about until you go through the event for the first time and we've now been through that we see where there are opportunities to improve systems, infrastructure, all of it.
- 15:29Sean McAllister: And it is people's jobs to go through and look at all that stuff and make sure that next year is better and the year after that is even better than year two, and so on and so on, and I think it is going to become a well-oiled machine.
- 15:44Sean McAllister: But it's the things that you have to work through when you have an inaugural anything.
- 15:50Dayna Roselli: It's true, and I think it's hard with social media.
- 15:54Dayna Roselli: People are seeing videos and getting riled up and all I say is that does serve a purpose.
- 15:59Dayna Roselli: Influencers serve a purpose.
- 16:00Dayna Roselli: Just keep in mind context is everything.
- 16:04Dayna Roselli: Sometimes somebody's walking through an empty casino.
- 16:06Dayna Roselli: It's like what time is it of day?
- 16:08Dayna Roselli: Was it during the event, because maybe everyone was at the event, or was it early in the morning or was it?
- 16:15Dayna Roselli: There are things where there has been incidents or this person was getting yelled at.
- 16:18Dayna Roselli: Well, how long before that was somebody asking a person to either move or kind of.
- 16:25Dayna Roselli: Whatever the situation is, there's different parts of video and we've talked about things on our podcast in the past where we said here's what we saw with our own eyes, but we weren't sitting there.
- 16:37Dayna Roselli: Let's see if some other videos from different perspectives come out.
- 16:40Dayna Roselli: You have to keep all that in mind.
- 16:41Sean McAllister: Yeah, you do.
- 16:42Dayna Roselli: Now you guys did.
- 16:43Dayna Roselli: Something that was very helpful is we had a lot of questions thrown at us right and so we tried really hard to get you some answers, and we did.
- 16:50Dayna Roselli: We went right to the LVCVA and we asked them a list of questions A lot of them people had asked us whether it was a private message or publicly and tried to get some answers for you.
- 17:00Sean McAllister: Yeah, and the number one question that we got is how long is it gonna take for all of this infrastructure to be taken back down again?
- 17:08Sean McAllister: Well, we know that it took at least a month it was over a month for everything to be set up, so deconstructing it's probably going to be about the same time.
- 17:20Sean McAllister: By January, the bulk of the infrastructure should be taken back down.
- 17:26Dayna Roselli: Right, yeah, we'll see.
- 17:28Dayna Roselli: I did notice that they're going really quick.
- 17:30Dayna Roselli: I have this little hair in my eye and it's really annoying me.
- 17:33Dayna Roselli: I did notice that they were working quick, though, this morning, that some of the live cameras out there was like they were rolling and they were moving things, so I mean it could go a lot faster.
- 17:41Dayna Roselli: They may be really trying to listen to the public and say let's get this all down.
- 17:46Dayna Roselli: We'll see.
- 17:46Dayna Roselli: Here's another broad topic was the race worth it?
- 17:50Dayna Roselli: Well, you know what?
- 17:51Dayna Roselli: From some of these numbers that I'm going to read through, it seems like it.
- 17:55Dayna Roselli: Worldwide viewership was estimated to be about 100 million, that's, 100 million eyes and ears on Las Vegas.
- 18:03Dayna Roselli: So pretty incredible.
- 18:05Dayna Roselli: And you and I even this was one of our questions like how is the community gonna benefit?
- 18:10Dayna Roselli: How is southern Nevada gonna benefit, and we got some answers on that to yeah, 100 million dollars in tax revenue was brought in by this race.
- 18:21Sean McAllister: you have to remember, f1 paid Big chunk of money to have this race here as well, so all of that tax revenue is gonna go to things like K-12 education, higher education, healthcare.
- 18:35Sean McAllister: So that really does offset a whole bunch of money that would otherwise be need need to come from somewhere else, and actually 25 million Is gonna go to K-12 education yeah, that's really cool.
- 18:51Dayna Roselli: I'm glad to hear that and I'm sure that will hear more and more about that.
- 18:55Dayna Roselli: Maybe some more specifics on how they plan to use it.
- 18:57Dayna Roselli: The race was expected to employ more than 7700 people and include roles for event operations and support, as well as construction.
- 19:05Dayna Roselli: We kind of touched on that a little bit, but yes, we did.
- 19:08Sean McAllister: That was very visible visible workers on the ground and then, of course, leading up to it yeah, it was on another big, big, big, big, big question will the track need to be paved again because we know how all that went the first time around?
- 19:23Sean McAllister: The answer is not immediately.
- 19:29Dayna Roselli: No, and it looks like it'll be a little while.
- 19:31Dayna Roselli: So we thought cuz now, like a lot of people saying now, we're gonna go through all this again.
- 19:35Dayna Roselli: Next time it doesn't seem like it's gonna be as bad.
- 19:37Dayna Roselli: So the paving disruptions in future years, they said, will definitely be less.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: So that's great.
- 19:43Dayna Roselli: Miller project management has said that the track should last six years, if not eight to ten years.
- 19:49Dayna Roselli: Now they do recognize there will be times where they have to go back and make repairs.
- 19:54Dayna Roselli: So they've got a protocol in process and in place with the Clark County to make sure that it goes back to the same as they did it the first time around, and so they are looking ahead and planning for that doesn't seem like it's gonna be as big of a mess.
- 20:11Dayna Roselli: So that's some good news.
- 20:12Dayna Roselli: What a relief.
- 20:12Sean McAllister: Yeah, and with a ten year commitment there, they're hoping that the track that was put down this time around is going to last that entire span of time.
- 20:22Sean McAllister: Now we are going to have a clearer idea on exact numbers on hotel occupancy, on gaming revenue, about a month from now, once all those facts and figures are compiled and then released.
- 20:35Sean McAllister: So we'll absolutely share that with you when we get that information in.
- 20:43Dayna Roselli: And the Las Vegas Grand Prix did say that over three hundred thousand people came in specifically for the event, that they were at the event, and then also about one point two billion dollars probably taken in as well.
- 20:52Dayna Roselli: So, again, we're gonna have all that you know like, like the money and the gambling and all that kind of thing coming in in probably a month or so.
- 21:02Sean McAllister: And somebody else who has been following everything F1 and really everything Vegas is Paul Contino.
- 21:09Sean McAllister: You probably know him better if you're following him on tiktok or Instagram as Vegas Paulie see.
- 21:16Dayna Roselli: I know I mean we gotta get.
- 21:18Dayna Roselli: We gotta get it down.
- 21:18Dayna Roselli: I'm excited to talk to Vegas Paulie see.
- 21:21Dayna Roselli: He starts every video off with a little hello, hello, hello and he's on tiktok as a Vegas Paulie see and then you can find him on Instagram as casino comp wallet.
- 21:32Dayna Roselli: We've been wanting to talk to Paulie see because a lot of his videos I think we appreciate a little bit more, because I don't know what you, what you would call it is necessarily an influencer.
- 21:44Dayna Roselli: He provides content on social media, right, yeah, he's kind of like a firsthand account.
- 21:49Dayna Roselli: He walks around the strip, he shows a lot of different things, but what we love about what he does and how he presents his videos Is that he always says this is what I heard or this is what I was told from someone that works there, but I haven't confirmed it, this is what I'm hearing.
- 22:04Dayna Roselli: And then he also got and corrects a lot of his videos on.
- 22:08Dayna Roselli: There was something that came out about the sphere and how much it made, and he'll get on and say you know that's how much it made, but but it also was only open for two days and you know, he really clears a lot of things up, and so I think you and I, as journalists, appreciate his take as a social media storyteller.
- 22:25Sean McAllister: Yeah, we definitely do, so we're excited to have Vegas, paulie.
- 22:30Sean McAllister: See with us now, paulie, hello, hello, hello.
- 22:35Paul Contino: Well, hi, how are you?
- 22:35Paul Contino: It's Vegas, paulie, see.
- 22:37Paul Contino: Well, hello, hello, hello.
- 22:39Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 22:39Dayna Roselli: How many people come up to you and say that?
- 22:42Paul Contino: A lot Every day.
- 22:44Paul Contino: This is what.
- 22:45Paul Contino: This is the way it goes, so not a lot of people really know that what I look like exactly true even though I am sort of an unusual, different looking kind of guy.
- 22:53Paul Contino: But a lot of people don't know what I look like, but they know the voice.
- 22:55Paul Contino: So what happens is and this is always funny to me I'll go to do a video and I'll do my video right out on the corner, wherever, and people will hear the voice and all of a sudden they'll turn and they'll be like I know that voice.
- 23:07Paul Contino: If I'm out there using my voice.
- 23:10Paul Contino: It's a lot more people, but it's probably 10 to 15 people a day.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 23:15Paul Contino: I'm just fascinated, my girlfriend, because you know she knows me as a dork, she knows me as a nerd, she knows me as an introvert, she kind of knows me as just someone who just doesn't have it.
- 23:24Paul Contino: And then she sees me out doing this and she can't you know, she really can't balance the two.
- 23:29Paul Contino: I don't think, you know, this is something that's just so enjoyable.
- 23:33Paul Contino: I mean, how can you not love it?
- 23:36Dayna Roselli: I know I mean, listen, you do a great job.
- 23:37Dayna Roselli: I'm gonna tell you the reason.
- 23:37Dayna Roselli: I feel like I follow and know who everyone is in Vegas.
- 23:41Dayna Roselli: And then all of a sudden I have a friend in New York City who said I love to visit Vegas a lot and he says, dana, you gotta do you know who Polly see is.
- 23:47Dayna Roselli: I said no, I thought I not know who Polly see is.
- 23:50Dayna Roselli: He's you gotta follow this guy.
- 23:51Dayna Roselli: So I did.
- 23:52Dayna Roselli: Then I started sharing with Sean.
- 23:53Dayna Roselli: Even my mom follows along.
- 23:55Dayna Roselli: Now I mean everyone's, we love it.
- 23:57Dayna Roselli: We love your content it's.
- 23:59Dayna Roselli: It's different than everyone else and it's sometimes a rock, it's a riot the way that you present it and how passionate you are about it.
- 24:07Dayna Roselli: And you were just telling us off the phone that, listen, this is what I do and I love it and it feeds you right.
- 24:15Paul Contino: Well, yeah, I mean, I mean they technically call it narcissistic adoration.
- 24:18Paul Contino: So you know, you feel, you feel that love come from the crowd.
- 24:22Paul Contino: You know it's just like anything.
- 24:23Paul Contino: What's fascinating about it is I never felt it at all in any way, shape or form my entire life.
- 24:28Paul Contino: So when I started to feel it, I had a look it up and I had to figure out exactly what's going on.
- 24:34Paul Contino: And I found out what it was, because the act of doing social media and the act of being an influencer, it's extremely ridiculously, insanely narcissistic and it's embarrassing and embarrasses me because, you know, I have this relationship with my girlfriend.
- 24:49Paul Contino: We've been together for six years.
- 24:51Paul Contino: You know, when I try and stay humble and I try and tend to her needs and I'm very small in the relationship, and then I get out there and that starts to go on.
- 25:00Sean McAllister: Right.
- 25:01Paul Contino: So once I saw that, I say, ok, I understand what's going on and you start to understand like the cult of personality and I studied it.
- 25:07Paul Contino: But what's amazing about it to me is just how nice everyone is like.
- 25:11Paul Contino: Everyone is so kind and everyone encourages me.
- 25:15Paul Contino: And sometimes I do stuff and I say that's not that great, but then everybody tells me it's great.
- 25:20Paul Contino: But I don't let myself get high on my own supply.
- 25:25Paul Contino: I'm constantly watching and I'm saying, well, that's not, that, maybe I made a mistake over there, like I made one really tragic mistake and can I tell the story?
- 25:35Dayna Roselli: Go ahead, let's hear it.
- 25:36Dayna Roselli: We're all about tragic mistakes.
- 25:40Paul Contino: I made this tragic mistake.
- 25:41Paul Contino: I went in front of the sphere and I was high on my own supply because I had just done a video where I showed the hockey pucks.
- 25:47Paul Contino: I had walked up to the sphere.
- 25:48Paul Contino: There was no security all in front of it.
- 25:50Paul Contino: I hadn't breached anything, I hadn't done anything wrong, but the security was not there.
- 25:53Paul Contino: It was two days before it opened.
- 25:54Paul Contino: There was nobody there and I said to myself wow, there's nobody here.
- 25:57Paul Contino: So let me walk up to it.
- 25:59Paul Contino: And I did a close up video.
- 26:01Paul Contino: I had never seen what powers this year, and it's these little hockey pucks that have LED lights on it.
- 26:05Paul Contino: I made that video and the minute I made it I was like oh boy, this is a home run, because I got 100,000 views within two hours and then a million views within 12.
- 26:14Paul Contino: And it went to 5 million views.
- 26:16Paul Contino: So of course, I'm going to walk by the sphere every day.
- 26:19Paul Contino: So now the next day, I walk by the sphere and there's someone working on a utility closet and I swear you're going to have to take my word for this, although maybe some people don't.
- 26:28Paul Contino: I come from a place of innocence.
- 26:29Paul Contino: I'm really not trying to cause any trouble.
- 26:31Paul Contino: I certainly don't want to get into any trouble.
- 26:33Paul Contino: So I started interviewing the guy that's working on the box.
- 26:36Paul Contino: Now, all the box does is it's a camera box that looks at the sphere from four different angles so that the controllers inside the booth can see what's outside the booth, so that they understand what they're doing inside.
- 26:47Paul Contino: So I start to interview the guy and you know I put it up innocently and it's doing really well and I'm like happy with it because, again, it was just something that I did with no mal intent.
- 27:00Paul Contino: And I start to see these comments and you're going to get that guy fired.
- 27:02Paul Contino: He that shouldn't have been talking to you.
- 27:05Paul Contino: That you know a lot of negativity and Immediately, because my EQ should be higher than it is, you know, emotional quotient, my EQ is a little.
- 27:12Paul Contino: You know it's a little on the low side sometimes, immediately, I start fighting back in the channel like what are you talking about?
- 27:18Paul Contino: He's not gonna get fired.
- 27:20Paul Contino: You're all crazy.
- 27:21Paul Contino: Why do you got to be negative?
- 27:22Paul Contino: Like I hit some negativity for the first time and I didn't handle it.
- 27:25Paul Contino: Well, sure enough, the guy got fired.
- 27:27Paul Contino: Oh, I talked to his boss, because his boss is the one who said can you please take down the video.
- 27:33Paul Contino: So his boss assured me and I don't I forgot the name of the company, but his boss assured me he wasn't gonna get fired, he was just gonna get transferred off the job because, you know, jimmy Dolan, who owns this fear, runs a tight ship over there and they had a fit blah blah, blah, blah.
- 27:49Paul Contino: So my understanding is is that he did not get fired, he got transferred.
- 27:54Paul Contino: But I made an apology video, but the whole thing was just three days of me feeling so terrible.
- 27:59Paul Contino: But I want to tell you this because I always tell the gauze honest truth about everything you do about four days ago I got a.
- 28:05Paul Contino: I got a DM from somebody who said you know that guy, we just got transferred, we just went, he did end up getting fired and again this is already weeks later.
- 28:14Paul Contino: I mean I don't know how long ago the sphere opened.
- 28:15Paul Contino: So again I had all those emotions again.
- 28:18Paul Contino: Again I feel terrible.
- 28:18Paul Contino: I said, look, you know, to the DM that came in four or five days I said I feel terrible.
- 28:23Paul Contino: Have the guy contact me and I'll do something for him, with him, of him.
- 28:27Paul Contino: You know, I'll try and make amends in some way, shape or form.
- 28:29Paul Contino: I mean, I'm not without resources.
- 28:32Paul Contino: You know what I'm saying?
- 28:32Paul Contino: Mm-hmm, but I never.
- 28:34Paul Contino: I never heard from it.
- 28:35Paul Contino: But that was my most tragic mistake.
- 28:36Paul Contino: So now when I see employees I leave the belong.
- 28:39Paul Contino: Okay, that's basically the lesson that I learned lesson that was really a curiosity, and it really does come from a place of innocence.
- 28:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:46Dayna Roselli: No, I know it's curiosity and sometimes people will start talking to you and you don't know we went to we were the saddest part about it.
- 28:52Paul Contino: I just want to say the guy was the sweetest guy in the world.
- 28:54Paul Contino: That's why he gave me all that information.
- 28:56Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 28:56Dayna Roselli: Well, we went up to Northern Nevada and we stopped at that clown motel, america's scary and whatever.
- 29:01Dayna Roselli: We talked to a woman that worked there and everything was fine.
- 29:03Dayna Roselli: But I thought later when I was posting it, like I hope she's allowed to talk to us, like she was letting us in rooms and she kind of just seemed like you know, and she was telling us all this stuff, but you do have to.
- 29:12Dayna Roselli: That's I think it's curiosity.
- 29:14Paul Contino: But right, you know, but anyway, so I didn't get, you didn't get a text that you got fired.
- 29:18Dayna Roselli: Nope, no, we didn't.
- 29:19Dayna Roselli: No, we didn't Saved by the clown.
- 29:22Sean McAllister: I think she's a lifer.
- 29:23Paul Contino: Okay, good With the jobs.
- 29:26Paul Contino: You know they fire out, they fire out, will out here.
- 29:28Paul Contino: You know like yeah.
- 29:31Dayna Roselli: Well, we appreciate your honesty and one thing that that Sean and I always say is that we love that when you do your videos, that you always say like I heard from someone and this is what I'm hearing, but I cannot confirm so I do enjoy that side of it.
- 29:43Dayna Roselli: I feel like it is really honest because there's a lot out there right now that's very you know, it's out of context, it's not backed up.
- 29:51Paul Contino: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so I think, it's a.
- 29:53Paul Contino: So I found out.
- 29:53Paul Contino: So somebody told me that I ran into somebody in the hallway at a casino and he goes look, I'm security at the win and blah, blah, blah I don't quote whoever I am, don't do this, don't do that.
- 30:02Paul Contino: And he said I heard they made a million dollars in one day.
- 30:05Paul Contino: And I said how many dealer, whatever and I did the math and I came Up with twenty eight hundred dollars.
- 30:09Paul Contino: So I thought I had posted this video this morning.
- 30:11Paul Contino: I thought that they made twenty eight hundred dollars in one day right and I got an avalanche of DM's.
- 30:16Paul Contino: No, they didn't make twenty eight hundred dollars, they made two thousand dollars and they work very hard and it was a twelve hour shift and I'm sure you know I just posted I I posted a video.
- 30:26Paul Contino: I say, look, I was wrong.
- 30:27Paul Contino: It wasn't twenty eight hundred dollars, they made two thousand dollars.
- 30:29Paul Contino: It's still interesting.
- 30:31Paul Contino: It is you know that they made two thousand dollars in a twelve hour shift.
- 30:35Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and then you get another video at it right.
- 30:38Paul Contino: Well, yeah, when I'm wrong, I always, you know, I have the thing about my mental state is or my brain chemistry, and I have no problem being wrong, like, oh wow, I was wrong, let me fix it.
- 30:51Paul Contino: You know, hope I didn't do any crazy damage, right, and I just go back and I say, look, I was wrong, I'm doing, I'm doing the best job I can do out here, I come to it from a place of innocence and I just want to entertain, I want to make people laugh, I want to give people the information and if I'm totally wrong I say look, I was wrong and I move on.
- 31:09Paul Contino: You know?
- 31:10Sean McAllister: well, and that's the way to do it.
- 31:11Sean McAllister: That's what we, that's what we appreciate.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: F1 obviously has been the topic of a lot of conversation, a lot of frustration as well.
- 31:22Sean McAllister: We're just kind of going over the, the post.
- 31:26Sean McAllister: F1 Numbers, the impact it's going to have across the entire community.
- 31:32Sean McAllister: Um, what was your big takeaway from year one of having the formula one Las Vegas Grand Prix here?
- 31:42Paul Contino: Okay, so some of this is selfish, certainly in the beginning, so I want to get that out there.
- 31:46Paul Contino: Okay because in the very beginning, when they started to tear up this, the strip, I started to put a video.
- 31:51Paul Contino: Every video I put up got a million million views, two million views, three million views.
- 31:54Paul Contino: So in the beginning, when they start to tear up this trip, I was like this is the greatest thing that's ever happened to make us policy, because now I'm getting all these views from something new.
- 32:01Paul Contino: And as time went by, I saw the traffic building up and I would do, I would do live performances in the morning and I would ask the locals what they thought about it and I'd say who's positive about it, who's negative about it.
- 32:14Paul Contino: And I saw, you know, 80% of the people were negative, 90% of the people were negative.
- 32:19Paul Contino: And then I saw them cut down the trees, you know, and I ran over there and I saw the sap boiling out of the stump, which hurt, you know.
- 32:27Paul Contino: Hurt because these are, these are desert trees.
- 32:28Paul Contino: They've been there for 50 years.
- 32:29Paul Contino: They got them from the back of the property over there.
- 32:31Paul Contino: Yeah, and I thought to myself what Steve when have really done this?
- 32:34Paul Contino: Would he have blocked the fountains like this?
- 32:36Paul Contino: No, probably not.
- 32:39Paul Contino: And I got very mixed emotions and, leading up to it, I got a little sour and a little concerned.
- 32:46Paul Contino: And then, because I'm a cheap, easy audience, those race cars went by me on that first night and let me tell you I was happy with the nine minutes.
- 32:54Paul Contino: So I was happy with the nine minutes.
- 32:56Paul Contino: That first night I was over there at the Heineken Silver and I went home and I didn't think about suing anybody or getting back half of my ticker.
- 33:03Paul Contino: I didn't pay for my ticket.
- 33:04Paul Contino: Anyway, somebody invited me, we did and that and that Friday I went back again and I was at the VIP here at the Venetian and it was fabulous.
- 33:12Paul Contino: I saw the cars going by.
- 33:13Paul Contino: So the minute it started and this is one of my biggest faults as a human being the minute it started I was overwhelmingly, ridiculously enthusiastically positive about it.
- 33:25Paul Contino: Because now I'm having all of these emotional moments that are I'm getting choked up by that and I was so overwhelmingly positive, but the media had already gone ridiculously negative over the week, a negative over the weekend.
- 33:37Paul Contino: So I'm getting a lot of feedback.
- 33:39Paul Contino: I'm getting a lot of content.
- 33:40Paul Contino: A lot of people contact me.
- 33:41Paul Contino: This is the worst thing that ever happened in Vegas.
- 33:43Paul Contino: Isn't this a disaster policy?
- 33:44Paul Contino: Isn't this the worst?
- 33:46Paul Contino: The casinos are empty.
- 33:47Paul Contino: This is terrible mess and I'm like what are you even talking about?
- 33:51Paul Contino: I was in the casinos.
- 33:52Paul Contino: I saw a hundred thousand dollar chips on the table.
- 33:55Paul Contino: I have never seen that much action come across the table in my entire life.
- 34:00Paul Contino: You can't even get to a five hundred dollar minimum table.
- 34:03Paul Contino: I said people are making money here.
- 34:05Paul Contino: I said I don't know, I'm not negative about it at all, but the press was negative all the way through Sunday night and then Monday morning.
- 34:10Paul Contino: I wake up this morning and I see all of these, all of this press about how are you?
- 34:15Paul Contino: No, not you, but I've congratulations if you want a lot of money.
- 34:20Paul Contino: Okay, so I got.
- 34:25Paul Contino: I got up on Monday morning and I see the press like most overwhelming, incredible, amazing Event to have ever happened in Las Vegas.
- 34:33Paul Contino: Isn't it interesting how it turned.
- 34:34Paul Contino: Well, I just couldn't believe that the press turned on a dime like that, with no shame, like, wow, now you guys are in the press, you guys are news people, you guys are professionals.
- 34:46Paul Contino: Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 34:48Dayna Roselli: Yes, so we went in frustrated with the construction and then, as it got closer, we both we've always been lovers of Las Vegas.
- 34:54Dayna Roselli: We go to all the big events.
- 34:56Dayna Roselli: We love it, we think it's the best thing ever and we said we're going into F1 week here, positive, we're ready to just let's see how this goes.
- 35:04Dayna Roselli: It could be the it's a global event.
- 35:05Dayna Roselli: And then us two we were invited and we went to opening ceremony and we went to the practice round on Friday at 830.
- 35:13Dayna Roselli: And I mean, I even I would just mentioned earlier in the podcast I looked at Shawnee, looked at me and like our mouths were open.
- 35:19Dayna Roselli: We were like in awe over.
- 35:21Dayna Roselli: It was emotional, seeing everything and experiencing the cars and even the teams we're looking in the garages and these teams of people working, and I mean it was unreal.
- 35:33Paul Contino: It was over one.
- 35:33Paul Contino: It was so incredible.
- 35:35Paul Contino: So then you know all weekend living it and being sort of immersed in it and feeling how incredible it was getting all of that negativity from the rest of the country through the chat.
- 35:44Paul Contino: It was confusing me.
- 35:46Paul Contino: You know, when I went to sleep last night like, okay, well, I loved it.
- 35:50Paul Contino: But maybe I loved it because I'm the world's most selfish human being.
- 35:53Paul Contino: I don't know, you know my mind is always open to that, because when you start to do this influencer thing, you could you know if you, like I said, if you get high on your own supply, you'll lose your mind.
- 36:02Paul Contino: So I said, oh right, so okay, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was just great for me because I didn't pay anything and I had such a great time.
- 36:07Paul Contino: And then I woke up this morning and the press was all like it was the greatest thing in the history of civilization.
- 36:12Paul Contino: So I guess they got on board later on, but what really kind of, I wouldn't say, bothered me, but it definitely, you know, made me like.
- 36:21Paul Contino: You know it was like it gave me whiplash.
- 36:25Paul Contino: The whiplash of it was, you know, wow, I couldn't believe it.
- 36:28Paul Contino: I know the whiplash of the press.
- 36:30Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 36:31Dayna Roselli: And then we just got done with the conversation.
- 36:33Dayna Roselli: We were on Twitter talking about how we enjoyed it and we got, like we are said, attacked more than we've ever been attacked.
- 36:40Dayna Roselli: How are we getting attacked for being positive?
- 36:42Dayna Roselli: And it was the same experience.
- 36:43Paul Contino: So by locals, in other words.
- 36:45Dayna Roselli: Locals yep, a lot of locals, and even some people from even a little bit, from people from around the world who were kind of like upset that Vegas was having the race here and we shouldn't.
- 36:57Dayna Roselli: And then you know different kinds of bloggers and stuff like that.
- 37:02Paul Contino: So it was interesting, I mean we were getting memes with the finger up in the whole nine.
- 37:06Paul Contino: There were businesses, and there were at least 10 businesses, I'm sure.
- 37:09Paul Contino: I mean we probably could make a list of 20 of them, but there were businesses that got wiped out.
- 37:14Paul Contino: By this I mean the gas station over on Coval and Flamingo.
- 37:19Paul Contino: They said that their business went from like.
- 37:21Paul Contino: That guy actually contacted me.
- 37:23Paul Contino: I think his business went from a hundred thousand a day down to zero.
- 37:25Paul Contino: You know, because they built that bridge over there, some places closed in.
- 37:29Paul Contino: So there were absolutely.
- 37:31Paul Contino: You know.
- 37:31Paul Contino: You have to be cognizant of the fact that there were.
- 37:33Paul Contino: There were a lot of people that lost.
- 37:36Paul Contino: I was interviewed by the F1 photographer I think his name is Kim Ilman or something like that and I said look, I said I think that they did a terrible job.
- 37:44Paul Contino: I think F1 did a terrible job in not communicating to the public.
- 37:48Paul Contino: I told them, I said I thought that they got a D at best.
- 37:51Paul Contino: I feel that and I'm not saying this to protect any sort of virtue signaling but I think they could have done a lot more for the locals.
- 38:00Paul Contino: I mean they could have put up a grandstand.
- 38:02Paul Contino: Some were over there in the T-Mobile zone, some were over there near the steer, somewhere on the strip, and they could have let people in for a hundred, fifty or a hundred dollars.
- 38:09Paul Contino: You know they could have let the locals in Because you know people going to their job every single day.
- 38:14Paul Contino: They had an extra hour, an extra hour and a half, an extra 45 minutes.
- 38:19Paul Contino: That adds up over the months.
- 38:21Dayna Roselli: It does we live close by?
- 38:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we felt it.
- 38:24Paul Contino: You know I'm still, all you know, excited from the event and whatever.
- 38:27Paul Contino: But you know, now, next year going in it's still going to be two months before and a month after, it's going to be three months of Indian means seeing everybody with the traffic, you know, wow.
- 38:36Paul Contino: In other words, there's a price to pay for this.
- 38:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 38:39Paul Contino: You know, when you come back to reality, there's a pretty big price to pay.
- 38:42Sean McAllister: There is, but when your reality is living in a city that is based on providing hospitality to the rest of the world, I feel like there has to be some sort of ownership of the fact that at some point, you are going to be inconvenienced in some way in order to provide world-class experiences that nowhere else on earth can provide.
- 39:08Paul Contino: I do believe that that's true, but what's interesting about this and not from a science perspective, because that's being too dramatic what's interesting about this is is that it probably is the most amount of sacrifice ever asked of the general public for a benefit that is huge but is not really being universally distributed.
- 39:28Paul Contino: So you have almost a test case in patients.
- 39:32Paul Contino: Can you understand what I'm saying?
- 39:35Dayna Roselli: No, totally, and so you know, Fair enough, yeah.
- 39:38Paul Contino: A boxing event or any kind of event is not going to really impact the locals like this did.
- 39:44Dayna Roselli: No.
- 39:45Paul Contino: The average local probably gave up.
- 39:47Paul Contino: Well, let's just use 10 hours a week.
- 39:49Paul Contino: They may have given up 100 hours of their life for this and they may have a job where, let's just say, you're a local who works at that gas station over at Colville, now you gave up 100 hours of your life and you lost your job or and your boss can't pay you.
- 40:01Paul Contino: So there was some very profound winners and losers here, way more than usual.
- 40:09Dayna Roselli: I agree, and we were just saying some people said, you know, it was just terrible, you know, when it came to their business.
- 40:14Dayna Roselli: But then some people wrote us and said, hey, my business had the best weekend it's ever had.
- 40:18Dayna Roselli: So it is a tough one.
- 40:20Dayna Roselli: Hey, and interestingly enough we went to the LVCVA today.
- 40:24Dayna Roselli: We had a list of questions and they did tell us that the viewership on this thing was a hundred million viewers worldwide on the broadcast.
- 40:32Dayna Roselli: And then also the economic impact we already have seen that 1.2 billion, but the race apparently is bringing in a hundred million or so in tax revenue and it's gonna be used for services like K through 12 education, higher education and healthcare, and about 25 million of that is gonna go to K to 12 education.
- 40:52Dayna Roselli: So we thought that was interesting.
- 40:54Paul Contino: Yeah, well, that's fantastic, because they definitely need to put more money into that over here in the state of Nevada.
- 40:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so it's good to see that the community will benefit.
- 41:02Paul Contino: I mean Vegas.
- 41:03Paul Contino: Let's be honest, vegas is booming.
- 41:04Paul Contino: I mean, not only is it booming, but it just keeps getting better and better.
- 41:10Paul Contino: And now you have the A's coming here and the Super Bowl coming here.
- 41:13Paul Contino: I mean I, you know, people say to me what's the future of Las Vegas?
- 41:16Paul Contino: And I say I think in 40 years the number one city population-wise will still be New York, but I don't think Vegas is gonna be far behind.
- 41:24Paul Contino: I mean I see Vegas, you know they call it Manhattanization.
- 41:27Paul Contino: I see, I know that that was happening in 2005 and then the financial crisis hit.
- 41:31Paul Contino: But I think they're gonna start again with the vertical, you know, and they start to put people in vertical apartment buildings.
- 41:38Paul Contino: They're building a couple of new apartment buildings downtown, a couple of new condo units.
- 41:41Paul Contino: I think they're gonna start to go vertical.
- 41:43Paul Contino: And I see Vegas is, you know, I think I'll be dead, but I don't know how old you guys are, maybe you're younger than me.
- 41:49Paul Contino: 40 years from now, I see Vegas being the second largest city in the country.
- 41:52Paul Contino: Interesting Because and I always joke about this on my lives I say Vegas it's the get it done city.
- 41:58Paul Contino: It really is, you know, if you're from New York, if you're from the East Coast, if you're from New York, if you're from New Jersey and you see what happened with the A's, that's like a five year process in New York, right.
- 42:10Sean McAllister: True, very true.
- 42:12Paul Contino: And you guys got it done here.
- 42:13Paul Contino: You know it was like a thought, and then they picked a location and then it happened.
- 42:17Paul Contino: That was like a.
- 42:18Paul Contino: To me and I know I'm exaggerating a little bit that was like a one month execution.
- 42:23Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 42:24Paul Contino: You know, it seems like it.
- 42:26Dayna Roselli: We interviewed James Dolan before the sphere opening and he said you know?
- 42:32Dayna Roselli: I said aren't you going to put one in New York City?
- 42:33Dayna Roselli: He said well, if they would have it, like Vegas was so welcoming and easy to work with.
- 42:38Paul Contino: That we just he knows, he knows, he knows because he does business in New York, yeah, yeah, and he's been.
- 42:44Paul Contino: You know, you have no idea.
- 42:45Paul Contino: I mean, you know I was in that industry, obviously not anywhere near close to the level of James Dolan.
- 42:50Paul Contino: But they actually make you ask to just put up cable television.
- 42:55Paul Contino: With each town you have to go through like a lengthy approval process.
- 42:58Paul Contino: So if anybody knows about towns getting in the way and government being hostile and I'm not blowing any smoke up James Dolan's chukas, trust me but if anybody, but if anybody knows about that pain because I was in telecommunications, it's James Dolan.
- 43:13Paul Contino: Yeah, so he comes out here, but he must.
- 43:16Paul Contino: Just when he gets out here, gets off the plane, he must feel like, oh, I can breathe.
- 43:21Sean McAllister: A breath of fresh desert air.
- 43:23Sean McAllister: You got to love it.
- 43:24Sean McAllister: Hey, you know, as the as the, the weeks are counting down to the end of 2023.
- 43:31Sean McAllister: I mean, it's still a packed roster that we have the rest of this year and then into next year is just same same velocity with things.
- 43:42Sean McAllister: What are the three things you're most looking forward to coming up here in the next few months in Vegas?
- 43:47Paul Contino: Well, the definitely the opening of the fountain blue, the opening of the Durango and the Super Bowl Very easy, yeah, three good ones.
- 43:55Dayna Roselli: Three good ones December.
- 43:56Paul Contino: January and February.
- 43:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah Well, I live at Turnberry.
- 43:58Dayna Roselli: I'm going to update photos of all the changes and the lights on and all that.
- 44:05Paul Contino: The casino is beautiful.
- 44:06Paul Contino: I saw a video of the casino's gorgeous yeah, it looks really nice.
- 44:09Dayna Roselli: Will we see you at the opening?
- 44:10Dayna Roselli: Sean and I are going.
- 44:12Paul Contino: Well, I won't be invited because you know I put up videos of the windows falling out and whatever.
- 44:16Paul Contino: I just you know, whatever information I have I put up and someone had said that that was due to the wind.
- 44:20Paul Contino: Blah, blah, blah.
- 44:20Paul Contino: I'm sure I'm persona non grotto over there, but I'll go over.
- 44:23Paul Contino: I mean, you know I'm not, I don't, you know, sometimes I have to sneak around a little bit, but I'll go over there and check it out.
- 44:30Dayna Roselli: And we talked to you before the.
- 44:32Dayna Roselli: We actually got you on the line here and started recording, so just tell folks if they want to follow you.
- 44:37Dayna Roselli: What do you do you do a morning?
- 44:38Dayna Roselli: Where are you on in the morning?
- 44:40Dayna Roselli: On TicTac or Instagram?
- 44:41Paul Contino: You do your morning walk.
- 44:42Paul Contino: I walk on TicTac and then I try and get people to go over to my YouTube, which I just just started a couple of months ago.
- 44:47Paul Contino: So I walk from the strip downtown.
- 44:49Paul Contino: You know it was very windy this morning, but I do a morning show and that's live, maybe five days a week, six days a week you know as many days as I can get out there.
- 44:57Paul Contino: I really enjoy doing it.
- 44:58Paul Contino: After the coffee it's me, and then whatever I see on the street I'll do videos.
- 45:03Paul Contino: Like I woke up this morning and they were already taking down the F1 stuff.
- 45:05Paul Contino: And what happens with the live, what happens with the chat and what happens with social media is everybody tells you what they want.
- 45:14Paul Contino: So all I have to do is just do what the people want.
- 45:18Paul Contino: So everybody's asking me constantly how long is it going to be?
- 45:20Paul Contino: How long will it take, you know, for it to get all the stuff down?
- 45:23Paul Contino: So I did a video of it and you know they say it's going to be four or five weeks, which is long to me.
- 45:27Paul Contino: I can't imagine maybe you guys know better how many weeks it's going to take to get the strip back to normal.
- 45:33Paul Contino: That seems a little long.
- 45:35Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they said that's the one thing they can't pinpoint as they start taking it down, because it's obviously the first time they're going to do it.
- 45:42Dayna Roselli: They did say the inconvenience in the fall is going to be a lot less, though that they don't have to repave the track.
- 45:49Paul Contino: So they don't have to repay it every four days?
- 45:50Paul Contino: That's an open question, yeah.
- 45:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah so that was the one thing that they couldn't answer.
- 45:54Dayna Roselli: They said you know they're going to have to see how it goes, but I saw you out there this morning and it looks like they're starting to.
- 45:59Dayna Roselli: You know, working on it quick.
- 46:00Dayna Roselli: I bet I have a feeling that they might try and get it down, you know quick.
- 46:03Paul Contino: Yeah, I think they'll get it done in a couple of weeks.
- 46:05Paul Contino: I really do.
- 46:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah, definitely All right.
- 46:08Dayna Roselli: So you, you, you came to town.
- 46:10Dayna Roselli: What, 18 months ago, you said?
- 46:11Paul Contino: I came to town, I started walking on February 1st of 2022 and I was walking for six days and a woman named Mona from Texas sends me a video.
- 46:23Paul Contino: This is the first time I had any narcissistic adoration.
- 46:26Paul Contino: A woman from Texas sends me a video of me doing something funny and I didn't even understand that she had screenshot me.
- 46:33Paul Contino: This is the level of naive Naive Like I didn't even know you could do that with your phone.
- 46:37Paul Contino: Now I know how to do it, so I'm technically challenged.
- 46:40Paul Contino: I'm bumbling around out there.
- 46:41Paul Contino: She sends me a video of me doing something funny and she says I hope you don't mind, but I set up a fan page for you and I'm like, don't mind.
- 46:50Paul Contino: I'm like, I'm like smiling ear to ear of my God, a fan page for me.
- 46:54Paul Contino: Who the hell am I?
- 46:55Paul Contino: I'm a nerd from the basement, and that basically started the whole thing rolling.
- 46:58Paul Contino: From then on, I was hooked.
- 46:59Paul Contino: She gave me my first hot dose of the drug I love it Mona from Texas Mona from Texas.
- 47:06Paul Contino: We called her the general.
- 47:07Paul Contino: She's still in the show.
- 47:08Paul Contino: She's such a sweet woman.
- 47:10Paul Contino: I've met her three or four times now.
- 47:11Paul Contino: She comes to Vegas all the time and you know I consider her a friend.
- 47:15Paul Contino: Really I love that.
- 47:17Paul Contino: That's terrific.
- 47:18Dayna Roselli: That really is.
- 47:19Dayna Roselli: We love your intros.
- 47:20Dayna Roselli: We love your at your outtros.
- 47:21Dayna Roselli: We're going to keep in touch with you because we appreciate your take on things.
- 47:25Paul Contino: We're both now following you, yeah whatever I can do for you guys, I'll be happy to do it.
- 47:28Paul Contino: I try and help the people who are in the press, the podcast, as much as possible.
- 47:32Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and we love your take, we love your descriptions.
- 47:34Dayna Roselli: You really do absorb a lot of information up in that head when you're walking and talking.
- 47:38Paul Contino: Yeah Well, I love doing it.
- 47:39Paul Contino: What do you get?
- 47:41Dayna Roselli: Direct messages from people that work at places and say hey.
- 47:44Paul Contino: I get a lot of DMs from people that give me information and as soon as I see it from two or three people, then I say to myself, well, maybe there's some truth to this and then I try and go deeper.
- 47:53Paul Contino: But sometimes, like you know, there's so much stuff I can't put up because it's just so unfounded and ridiculous.
- 47:58Paul Contino: But when I heard about the win and the money and the amount of money they took in tips and I heard it from a couple of different people and I talked to some people over that yeah, they did almost I heard a million dollars, but Las Vegas locally, who's very good they said it was only 700,000.
- 48:12Paul Contino: But in any case I heard that the deal is made $2,000.
- 48:15Dayna Roselli: So you know it's a lot of money, pretty good I think I can move forward with that.
- 48:20Paul Contino: I don't have to be like you know, yeah, yeah.
- 48:22Dayna Roselli: I like it.
- 48:22Dayna Roselli: I like it.
- 48:23Dayna Roselli: All right, Paulie, we got to.
- 48:24Dayna Roselli: You got to do your out cue for us, because we couldn't have this phone conversation If you, we didn't end it with your voice ending the broadcast.
- 48:34Dayna Roselli: All right, do it, do it, here we go.
- 48:36Paul Contino: Vegas Paulie.
- 48:41Sean McAllister: Paulie, thanks so much for your time man.
- 48:44Paul Contino: We appreciate you, thank you.
- 48:45Dayna Roselli: Okay, we'll talk to you soon.
- 48:47Paul Contino: Okay, bye-bye.
- 48:48Dayna Roselli: Bye, A lot of fun to talk to Vegas.
- 48:52Sean McAllister: Paulie C.
- 48:53Sean McAllister: Paulie C.
- 48:54Dayna Roselli: He is very unique.
- 48:55Dayna Roselli: You got to give him that right.
- 48:56Sean McAllister: He is.
- 48:57Dayna Roselli: It's different.
- 48:57Dayna Roselli: I like it.
- 48:58Dayna Roselli: It's something different.
- 48:59Dayna Roselli: Everything starts to look the same and sound the same after a while right, he's out there hitting the pavement every single morning.
- 49:07Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 49:07Dayna Roselli: You'd think that he'd live.
- 49:09Dayna Roselli: He lived here for like a really long time.
- 49:10Dayna Roselli: That's what it seems like, but it's interesting to his take because he's he's a gambler.
- 49:14Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's like a different kind of perspective, so did appreciate that.
- 49:18Dayna Roselli: Just like he mentioned, obviously, the fountain blues opening on the 13th, we've got Durango, a station Casino's newest resort and Casino opening on December 5th.
- 49:28Dayna Roselli: Then we've got New Year's Eve and Super Bowl.
- 49:30Dayna Roselli: Sean and I are going to enjoy Thanksgiving and just take a little bit of time off to wrap up some projects that we need to do for the end of the year, but we're going to be back early December.
- 49:39Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's right, December.
- 49:41Sean McAllister: I believe December 9th is when we'll have a new episode out for you.
- 49:46Sean McAllister: So just taking one week off so we can have some downtime, rejuvenate for a busy end of the year and super busy start of 2024.
- 49:56Sean McAllister: We want to be on our A game for you?
- 49:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they do, and with the fountain blue opening and everything, we're going to have some special.
- 50:01Dayna Roselli: You know coverage of that, yes, and we're going to be on the red carpet, and so we're going to bring you a lot of stuff.
- 50:06Dayna Roselli: So we kind of just going to take a breather, spend some time with family and friends.
- 50:10Dayna Roselli: We hope you enjoyed this longer episode.
- 50:12Dayna Roselli: We gave you that right, and then, of course, we will be back.
- 50:16Dayna Roselli: Also, on just a quick little note, we got to mention we're getting a baseball team now too, by the way.
- 50:21Sean McAllister: We are the A's, they're coming.
- 50:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so lots of new updates.
- 50:24Dayna Roselli: Follow us on social media.
- 50:26Dayna Roselli: We'll always be there because that's easy, it's at our thumbs and don't come at us, don't be mean, be nice.
- 50:33Sean McAllister: We will.
- 50:34Dayna Roselli: See you for episode 197.
- 50:36Dayna Roselli: Have a great holiday everyone.
- 50:37Dayna Roselli: Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye.
- 50:42Paul Contino: Bye, bye.
