- 0:00Exodus chapter 8, let us pray. Father God, who reigns on high,
- 0:08we thank you, Lord, for another day.
- 0:10We thank you God, for giving us life and life abundant.
- 0:14We thank you God for your holy scriptures.
- 0:16We are thankful for who you are. God, for giving us the down
- 0:20payment of the Holy Spirit. Lord, I pray that we'll be
- 0:24filled with the Spirit today. Lord, give us your righteousness
- 0:29and your holiness. Help us to walk across the
- 0:32stones, God of fire. Help us to walk across the
- 0:36water, God, and not be drowned. Lord, I pray you'll fan the
- 0:40flame. God, I pray for the living
- 0:42water. God, I pray that you'll continue
- 0:45to empower us for the journey. Help us to know what to do and
- 0:49when to do it and how to do it. God, we pray for the peace of
- 0:53Jerusalem. God, we pray that you will help
- 0:59them. Father, help your ethnic people,
- 1:03Lord, who are called by your name.
- 1:05God, I pray that they'll come into the fold, Lord, in the same
- 1:10way that we did through Christ Jesus.
- 1:13Lord, I pray that you'll continue to have your purposes
- 1:16and plans played out. Lord, for today, for such a time
- 1:21as this. God, we thank you for
- 1:24protection. God, we thank you that you have
- 1:27kept us, or we thank you that you've preserved your word
- 1:31through the ages. God, heaven and earth shall pass
- 1:35away, but not one of these words.
- 1:37Or we know that your Word is alive and active.
- 1:39We know that Jesus became the Word, flesh became the Word
- 1:44Father. So we eat it today, or we eat
- 1:48the scroll that is sweet, Lord, but help it, Father, to become
- 1:53bitter within our bellies. Lord, help us not to just be
- 1:58complacent. Help us not to be complicit.
- 2:01Help us not, Father, to just lay down God and take whatever's
- 2:06coming our way. But God, I pray it will rise to
- 2:09the occasion. It will be the men and women who
- 2:13are on the front lines, got out in the harvest, Lord, going and
- 2:18making disciples of all nations, all people groups, all languages
- 2:23and tongues, God, and baptizing them in the name of the Father,
- 2:27the Son and the Holy Ghost. Three in one, Father, for you
- 2:30are You are holy and worthy and righteous God, and you are just
- 2:36in all of your ways, even when we don't understand them.
- 2:39Father, we thank you God, for giving us your counsel through
- 2:45the Word. Help us to study it and to know
- 2:48it, to learn it, to own it, to live it.
- 2:50God, faith in action today, Lord, for all your Saints, and
- 2:56it's in your mighty and powerful and precious name.
- 2:59But I pray, Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 3:08And the Lord spoke unto Moses, Go to Pharaoh and say to him,
- 3:14this is what the Lord says, Let my people go, that they may
- 3:19serve me. So God Almighty is the one who
- 3:22calls the Israelites his people. They are his first born.
- 3:27And he's saying, let them go. Pharaoh verse 2 And if you
- 3:33refuse to let them go, behold, I will strike all your borders,
- 3:38frogs. So here we can see that God has
- 3:42unlimited power to literally do anything.
- 3:45And if he wants to cause frogs to spring up on the borders of
- 3:50Egypt, that's exactly what'll happen. 3 In the river shall
- 3:54bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into
- 3:58your house, into your bed chamber, upon your bed, into the
- 4:02House of your servants, upon your people, and into your
- 4:05ovens, and then to your kneading troughs.
- 4:09So this is a complete covering of frogs on every square inch of
- 4:15the habitation. In the bedroom, in the bathroom,
- 4:18in the kitchen, in the dining room, in your yard, your car,
- 4:23every single place, there will be billions of frogs.
- 4:32Four. And the frogs shall come up both
- 4:34on you and upon your people and upon all your servants.
- 4:37So when no one's safe, 5 And the Lord spoke to Moses, say to
- 4:41Aaron, stretched forth your hand with your rod over the streams
- 4:46and over the rivers and over the ponds, caused frogs to come up
- 4:50upon the land of Egypt. 6 And Aaron stretched out his hand
- 4:55over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered
- 4:58the land of Egypt. So God was not playing around,
- 5:02friends. Aaron stretched forth his hand,
- 5:06and all of a sudden the frogs were there in the land. 7 And
- 5:11the magicians did so with their enchantments and brought up
- 5:14frogs upon the land of Egypt. So here the Egyptians, they're
- 5:17going toe to toe, They're trying to outmatch old Moses and Aaron.
- 5:22They're showing Pharaoh that there's nothing peculiar in
- 5:25their magic, that they have the same magic.
- 5:29And so they bring up frogs as well.
- 5:31It's the same as whenever the rod went down and turned into a
- 5:35serpent. And then the magicians were able
- 5:37to do the same. But just remember, the Aaron
- 5:40staff ate up the other staff and we're here.
- 5:44We know that God is the one who has all the power and any of the
- 5:48power that within the magicians is very limited and allowed by
- 5:53holy God. And it's for the purpose to lead
- 5:57them astray, friends, and harden their hearts.
- 6:00And that's what you see time and time and time again, that God
- 6:04gives them over to a powerful delusion, so that they will
- 6:07believe the lie, because they delighted in evil and they
- 6:11refuse to love the truth. 8 And Pharaoh called for Moses and
- 6:16Aaron and said, Entreat the Lord, that he may take away the
- 6:20frogs from me, from my people, and I will let the people go,
- 6:24that they may do sacrifice to the Lord.
- 6:28So here Pharaoh is saying, Take the frogs away, and I'll let you
- 6:32go. 9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, Glory over me, When shall I
- 6:39entreat for you and for your servants, and for your people,
- 6:43to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may
- 6:46remain in the river only. So Moses says, At what time
- 6:50would you like for me to stop all this tan?
- 6:56And he said, Tomorrow. And he said, Be it according to
- 7:00your word, that you may know that there is none like unto the
- 7:03Lord our God. So here Pharaoh says, Make it
- 7:06stop tomorrow. And Moses says, I sure will.
- 7:09But by it's stopping tomorrow, you will know that God is who he
- 7:15says he is. 11 And the frogs shall depart from you, and from
- 7:21your houses, from your servants, and from your people.
- 7:24They shall remain in the river only. 12 And Moses and Aaron
- 7:29went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried unto the Lord, because of
- 7:32the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. 13 And the Lord
- 7:36did, according to the word of Moses.
- 7:38And the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and
- 7:42out of the fields. So here we can see that God
- 7:44stops this plague of frogs. 14 And they gathered them together
- 7:49upon heaps, and the land stunk, stink, stunk, stank, friends.
- 7:57It's nothing but rotting frogs in the land, heaped up in piles
- 8:03because there were so many. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there
- 8:10was respite, he hardened his heart, and he listened not to
- 8:13them. As the Lord had said, God
- 8:16already knew what was going to happen.
- 8:17It was not as if God hardened his heart.
- 8:20It is because he chose to harden his own heart, and God allowed
- 8:25it. Friends, he does not 'cause it,
- 8:29but he allows it, and that's a hard lesson for a lot of us to
- 8:33learn about the character of a loving, peaceful, almighty God
- 8:38who can do anything. 16 And the Lord said to Moses, say to
- 8:43Aaron, stretch out your rod and strike the dust of the land,
- 8:50that it that it may become lice throughout all the land of
- 8:55Egypt. So here they're going to turn
- 8:57all the dust into lice. 17 And they did so for Aaron straight
- 9:02stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the
- 9:05earth, and it became lice and man and beast and the dust of
- 9:09the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
- 9:12So you can see here friends, that all Aaron had to do is
- 9:16stretch out the rod, and all the dust of the land became as lice.
- 9:2318 The magicians did so with their enchantments to bring
- 9:27forth lice, but they could not, so the lice upon man and upon
- 9:32beast. 19 Then the magician said to Pharaoh, This is the finger
- 9:38of God, and Pharaohs heart was hardened, and he listened not to
- 9:43them as the Lord had said. So not only would he not listen
- 9:47to Moses and Aaron, not only would he not listen to the
- 9:51plagues that have come and the signs and the miracles that have
- 9:55already come, but here he will not even listen to his own
- 9:59magicians who say, Surely this is from the hand of God.
- 10:03This is not some magic trick. This is a divine miracle that
- 10:11only God could do. He will not listen to them
- 10:14either. 20 And the Lord said to Moses, rise up early in the
- 10:20morning, stand before Pharaoh, lo, he comes forth to the water,
- 10:25Say to him, This is what the Lord says, Let my people go,
- 10:30that they may serve me. So God here again is calling the
- 10:34Jews, He's calling the Israelites his first born.
- 10:37They are his people, friends, and it's still the same today.
- 10:42Don't forget that 21 else if you will not let my people go,
- 10:47behold, I will send swarms of flies upon you, and upon your
- 10:51servants, and upon your people, and into your house, and into
- 10:55the House of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and
- 10:59also the ground whereon they lay.
- 11:01So it's no wonder that the flies come about because of the
- 11:05massive amount of toads and frogs that were heaped up that
- 11:09stung. 22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in
- 11:16which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there
- 11:20to the end that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst
- 11:23of the earth. The earth is the Lord's and
- 11:25everything in it. He has full control over every
- 11:28single person continent, all the molecules of water, the
- 11:32droplets, friends, all of the electrons and neurons.
- 11:36God is Lord over it all. Never forget that there is
- 11:40nothing within the tapestry of life, within the tapestry of how
- 11:44we operate and move and have our being, that God is not Lord over
- 11:49friends. Never forget that.
- 11:51And here, if He wants to cause a massive amount of flies, thick
- 11:56as clouds, to come in and cover the land where you get no
- 12:00respite, you get no peace, you cannot move, you cannot do
- 12:04anything without the flies being all over and around you.
- 12:08Friends, then that is exactly what will happen.
- 12:12He can do it again today. God is not limited and we are
- 12:16not in a sensational thinking and thought process and
- 12:19theology. God can do miracles today in
- 12:22signs and wonders. There is nothing outside of
- 12:26God's power and control. 23 And I will put a division between my
- 12:34people and your people tomorrow. Shall this sign be so?
- 12:38God says you will know it by tomorrow, that there is a
- 12:42distinction between the Jews and the Egyptians. 24 And the Lord
- 12:48did so, and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the
- 12:52House of Pharaoh, into his servants houses, into all the
- 12:56land of Egypt. The land was corrupted by reason
- 13:00of the swarm of flies. So all of these things, the
- 13:03frogs, the flies, friends, this is all ridiculing their false
- 13:10lowercase G pantheon of gods that the Egyptians worshipped.
- 13:16And what Yahweh everlasting Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nisi,
- 13:23what he was doing is he was proving that there was no
- 13:28substance to their false worship of all of their lowercase G
- 13:33gods. He was putting them to shame and
- 13:37mockery here with all of the plagues.
- 13:40And the Egyptians would have understood way more clear than
- 13:44you and I who have no context for the matter.
- 13:48But they grew up within their culture.
- 13:50They grew up within the way that they had their society
- 13:54structured with all of these lowercase G gods that they
- 13:58worship. And God was dismantling it all
- 14:02in this moment. Friends, don't miss it. 25 And
- 14:07Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and he said, Go sacrifice
- 14:13to your God in the land. 26 And Moses said, It is not good to do
- 14:21so, for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians,
- 14:27and to the Lord our God, lo, shall we sacrifice the
- 14:31abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and they will
- 14:36stone us. So here Moses is telling Pharaoh
- 14:40we cannot do all of the sacrifices that God requires
- 14:45here in Egypt, or else the Egyptians will stone us to
- 14:50death, because we'll be slaughtering the very animals
- 14:54that they worship. And here Pharaoh has to make a
- 14:58hard decision. He has relegated his own power
- 15:04and his own self denoted deity. And he's acknowledging that
- 15:11there is someone higher than him.
- 15:13He's acknowledging that there is no power within all of their
- 15:17pantheon of lowercase G gods here. 27 We will go three days
- 15:26journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God.
- 15:30He has commanded us. And so you can see here,
- 15:33friends, that he says we will not just sacrifice here in
- 15:37Egypt. We're going to go out for a
- 15:39three day journey out into the wilderness to sacrifice as God
- 15:43had told us to do so. 28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go,
- 15:48that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness,
- 15:51only you shall not go very far away.
- 15:55Entreat for me. So here Pharaoh's trying to find
- 15:59some kind of compromise. He's trying to find the hook.
- 16:03He wants them to agree to his terms, but Moses and Aaron will
- 16:10not. As long as they are being led by
- 16:13Almighty God in this, they will not give in to any of Pharaoh's
- 16:19entreaties. 29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from you, and I
- 16:26will entreat the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from
- 16:30Pharaoh, from his servants, from his people tomorrow.
- 16:33But let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully anymore in not
- 16:37letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.
- 16:40So just like Judas had the decision that he did not have to
- 16:43sell our Lord out, but he chose to hear, Pharaoh is given chance
- 16:48after chance after chance after chance to not harden his own own
- 16:52heart, chance after chance after chance after chance to let them
- 16:57go. But he continuously keeps going
- 16:59back this sin cycle, and he's stuck in his own ways, and he's
- 17:04deceived himself and he's believing the lie, friends, that
- 17:08he is the one that is in control, when ultimately it is
- 17:12God who will have the final say. 30 And Moses went out from
- 17:17Pharaoh, and he entreated the Lord. 31 And the Lord did,
- 17:20according to the word of Moses, and he removed the swarms of
- 17:23flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, from the people that
- 17:27remain, not one. You can't even begin to imagine
- 17:31what this must have looked like from the lice and the frogs and
- 17:37here the flies. And this is a plague that unless
- 17:44you were able to be there, it is incomprehensible of how this
- 17:52would have affected your daily life.
- 17:56And here this would have been enough for Pharaoh to let them
- 18:01go. But he continuously keeps
- 18:03hardening his heart. We'll end on 32.
- 18:06And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also.
- 18:09Neither would he let the people go.
- 18:11Come on, Pharaoh, give it up. Give it a break.
- 18:17But he doesn't. We're going to see how the story
- 18:19goes as it progresses. I hope you've been blessed by
- 18:22this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 18:24I know I sure have. I love you.
- 18:26I'm praying for you. We'll see you back here
- 18:27tomorrow. God bless you.
