- 2:47Speaker 2: back in reality and you're just like.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't know what to do with myself.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Anyway.

- 4:40Speaker 1: so help will brow out because I want to do
- 4:43Speaker 1: this full time one day. But yes, today we are
- 4:46Speaker 1: talking about What Feasts at Night, which a standard which
- 4:49Speaker 1: is a sequel to the standalone book No Horror novella
- 4:53Speaker 1: known as What Moves the Dead, both by T. King Fisher.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So this one takes place basically right after the last
- 5:05Speaker 1: one leaves off this book before again into The book
- 5:08Speaker 1: was released February thirteenth of this year, so this book
- 5:11Speaker 1: is fairly new. The book last week I don't have
- 5:15Speaker 1: actually said what when it came out, but came out
- 5:17Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two, so this book came out two
- 5:19Speaker 1: years later. So getting into the plot again, this is
- 5:24Speaker 1: not a short book. This is even shorter than the
- 5:26Speaker 1: last one. It's one hundred and sixty pages, so you
- 5:29Speaker 1: can literally get this done in a couple hours if
- 5:32Speaker 1: you just power through it. It's it's we'll get into it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So Alex is the main character from the last book.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You we meet up with them again as they returned
- 5:41Speaker 1: back to their family hunting lodge in Galicia, which Galicia
- 5:44Speaker 1: is that eastern European country. That is pretty sure. It's yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 1: it's fictional, fictional Eastern European country that this book takes
- 5:52Speaker 1: place in Galicia. Is this supposed to be in Spain? What?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Wait?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Is there an actually European country in Galicia? Oh? My god?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Is it? This is real? Oh my god?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Galatia is a real sounds this is like a country.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It sounds like a like a province.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Or Galicia is historical and geographical region spanning was now
- 6:27Speaker 1: southeastern Poland and western Ukraine. Oh, it's a it's a
- 6:32Speaker 1: region of the world.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, So we're not dumb Americans. We're not knowing
- 6:38Speaker 2: about an existing country. It doesn't exist.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Anymore, Okay, in a weird way. It kind of been
- 6:44Speaker 1: more like a reu. I didn't know that was a
- 6:47Speaker 1: real thing. Wow, learn something new every day. Goddamn. So
- 6:52Speaker 1: this takes place and a family hunting lodge in Galicia,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and they, well, Alex is a company by their quote
- 7:01Speaker 1: unquote batman Agnes in English, and of course the English
- 7:06Speaker 1: woman missus Potta, miss Pata, who's British and loves fungus.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And they meet their caretaker. Oh they find out. Sorry,
- 7:16Speaker 1: Alex finds out that his care that their caretaker h
- 7:21Speaker 1: Adren codrin quadron has died. This caretaker died and he
- 7:27Speaker 1: didn't know about it or they didn't know about it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So he goes. Alex goes to the daughter of the
- 7:35Speaker 1: caretaker and she kind of is, I guess, not in
- 7:42Speaker 1: good not in a good mood when he when he
- 7:44Speaker 1: when they finally go to her to give his condolence
- 7:48Speaker 1: give their condolences, she's like, what the fuck do you
- 7:51Speaker 1: want type of attitude. And he finds or they find
- 7:54Speaker 1: out that her father died of a lung inflammation. Some
- 8:03Speaker 1: villagers have been saying though, that he was killed by
- 8:06Speaker 1: a Maury more Maury Maury m o r o I
- 8:17Speaker 1: is that Maury Maori or m o r o I?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Moroy moroy that's the word now and yeah moroy. So
- 8:33Speaker 1: those of you who don't know as folk, i'm ol
- 8:35Speaker 1: Roy is a type of vampire or ghost, some say
- 8:43Speaker 1: and Romanian folklore this is a phantom that takes energy,
- 8:54Speaker 1: draws energy from living things or living people. So that's
- 8:59Speaker 1: basically the ideas that they're sucking the life value. So
- 9:04Speaker 1: people are saying that the caretaker was killed by Monroy
- 9:11Speaker 1: because of local legend superstition, So of course it's a
- 9:17Speaker 1: creature that steals the breath of its victims by sitting
- 9:19Speaker 1: on their chests. And the moroy may take the form
- 9:23Speaker 1: of a moth or a beautiful woman. As the story
- 9:29Speaker 1: goes on, Agnes then hires a widow of the town
- 9:32Speaker 1: and her grandson to replace the caretaker, and they run
- 9:36Speaker 1: They run the hunting lodge and take care of them basically,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and Alex starts dreaming about this moroy, about this moroy
- 9:45Speaker 1: suffocating them. The grandson of the widow that they hired
- 9:51Speaker 1: takes ill with a lung condition. So everything's pointing to
- 9:56Speaker 1: this that there might be a this creature about suffocating
- 10:03Speaker 1: giving people sail in the stale in the breath from
- 10:06Speaker 1: from you and ship. The widow believes that the moroy
- 10:11Speaker 1: as a course, attacked him, and the moroy is a
- 10:15Speaker 1: spirit of a dead woman. Apparently it's a spirit of
- 10:17Speaker 1: a dead woman buried in the lodge's spring house. So
- 10:21Speaker 1: there's a woman, a dead woman apparentlyied underneath the house
- 10:25Speaker 1: of the property, so which has which is a spring house.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So there's a spring the house stached to it spring house,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and the spring has recently dried. Up, and Alex then
- 10:41Speaker 1: starts investigating moving the stones, which causes the water to
- 10:44Speaker 1: flow again. Ultimately, they do this at Unfortunately they did
- 10:50Speaker 1: this at night, accidentally trapping the Moroy outside, preventing her
- 10:55Speaker 1: from entering her body, and then that night the spirit
- 11:00Speaker 1: tax or the Maroy attacks the main character. From there,
- 11:04Speaker 1: the main character becomes trapped in his dream and they
- 11:07Speaker 1: speak with Boris, which is the widow's grandson that's having
- 11:11Speaker 1: a that's simply dying of a lung condition. She speaks
- 11:16Speaker 1: or he speaks with Boris, who is also trapped, and
- 11:19Speaker 1: they see, God, I'm gonna know, what the hell? How
- 11:23Speaker 1: you even say that? What is that? Mm? How to
- 11:33Speaker 1: say this? How to say how do you pronounce that?
- 11:40Speaker 1: The name botas that I'm terrible at these names. This
- 11:48Speaker 1: is like a Polish Romanian name. What is that? Put
- 11:53Speaker 1: in the chat?
- 11:54Speaker 2: Put in the chat?
- 11:57Speaker 1: I think it's Botta. Let me put it in the
- 12:01Speaker 1: chitty chat future Devin its part out?
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Basically, the name of the widow so Bdazatu, who offers
- 12:30Speaker 1: herself and Alex to the Maroy in exchange for her grandson,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and then the Mary attacks the widow, but Alex tackles
- 12:39Speaker 1: the spirit the dream world changes to Alex's time during
- 12:43Speaker 1: the war, so they start reliving his their wartime. Basically
- 12:48Speaker 1: kind of takes control of the dream and they use
- 12:52Speaker 1: their service basically their uh well, they call it Oliver
- 13:01Speaker 1: to kill the Moroy in the dream world, and then
- 13:05Speaker 1: they're waken up four days later. You see Agnes and
- 13:10Speaker 1: Miss Potter are treating them for pneumonia. Alex was found
- 13:17Speaker 1: half submerged in the spring House in the spring and
- 13:20Speaker 1: they dug up the Moroy's corpse from inside the spring
- 13:23Speaker 1: House and they buried her in the local churchyard. So Alex,
- 13:28Speaker 1: Agnes and as part of returned to their normal lives
- 13:31Speaker 1: and Boris Uh basically remains behind as the new caretaker
- 13:36Speaker 1: and he gets a full recovery from it. So basically
- 13:38Speaker 1: what happened was there's a there's a woman buried under
- 13:41Speaker 1: the spring house and she was killing off everybody because
- 13:44Speaker 1: she as best she was there, So they kicked her
- 13:47Speaker 1: ass in the spirit world and they unburied her body
- 13:50Speaker 1: and moved her body to a proper proper burial bit
- 13:53Speaker 1: bit proper burial in the churchyard, and then everyone's happy,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and then ors is like Hey, can I be the
- 14:01Speaker 1: caretaker of this house? And Alex is like, yeah, sure be.
- 14:09Speaker 1: My guess he needs a new one. So he takes
- 14:13Speaker 1: over as the caretaker of this hunting lodge, and Alex
- 14:17Speaker 1: and this Potter go about the normal lives and that's it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: This one I liked, but I liked the first one
- 14:27Speaker 1: a little more. I liked the idea.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Fir one was definitely more.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yeah, more body horror, and this one was more so.
- 14:42Speaker 2: First one was definitely more like science like science fiction, yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 2: he type. And this one was more like supernatural because
- 14:50Speaker 2: of the Maura dealing with actual supernatural Yeah. Yeah, because
- 14:53Speaker 2: we're dealing with like supernatural entities rather than a fungus.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yes. So this one takes a different which I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the book itself is still pretty good, but I personally
- 15:04Speaker 1: like the first one a little more because I like
- 15:07Speaker 1: the I like the way the first one was written,
- 15:10Speaker 1: not saying this one wasn't written great, but the departure
- 15:15Speaker 1: from the body horror to more of a supernatural horror
- 15:20Speaker 1: centered in on a ghost or spirit. I mean, it
- 15:33Speaker 1: was weird. It's just weird because the vibe of the
- 15:35Speaker 1: first book and the vibe of the second book are
- 15:36Speaker 1: two different vibes. You're just like, whoa, this is a change.
- 15:40Speaker 1: So yeah, it's true.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it honestly doesn't sound it doesn't even sound like
- 15:45Speaker 2: they're part of the same story.
- 15:47Speaker 1: It really yeah, it really doesn't. Yeah, it really doesn't
- 15:50Speaker 1: outside the fact of the main character, Alex Easton, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: then of course is their friend Agnes and ms Potter
- 15:59Speaker 1: are there. The mess Potters and ms Potters don't really
- 16:01Speaker 1: come intil the very end, because she ends up visiting
- 16:04Speaker 1: the lodge because she still wants to do more research
- 16:07Speaker 1: in Eastern Europe. So Alex is like, yeah, you can
- 16:09Speaker 1: come stay with me and this hunting lodge, and she
- 16:12Speaker 1: comes in towards the end, and that's where the stuff
- 16:14Speaker 1: starts getting good. But I mean, this book is still
- 16:18Speaker 1: pretty good, so if you want to complete the series,
- 16:19Speaker 1: be my guest read it. It's great. I just think
- 16:22Speaker 1: the first one is just a little better because that
- 16:25Speaker 1: body Horror was pretty good, pretty gross. But I don't
- 16:30Speaker 1: know if they're gonna make another sequel to this series.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I hope they do. All I know is that this
- 16:35Speaker 1: is gonna be a short lifts series, not very many books.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It's part of it. I'm hoping this is not the
- 16:41Speaker 1: last one because I would love to see more, but
- 16:45Speaker 1: I won't know until the author decides to announce it.
- 16:48Speaker 1: They're gonna it's gonna be another book. But that's what
- 16:51Speaker 1: feasts at night, so go check that out along with
- 16:55Speaker 1: What Moves the Dead. But thank you all for listening.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Today's episode catches next time a t about a different book.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Until then, peace out, Bye all late
