Lord, we come to read your scriptures, got to know you

Jesus for many to be saved today.

I pray in the name of Jesus for the Holy Spirit to break out

today. God, I pray that we will be

filled today, overflowing today. I pray that you'll give us a

sound mind. Lord, I pray that you will give

us a new heart. God, I pray that you will

engrave upon us all of your laws and decrees.

Father, I pray that we will know what to do and when to do it and

how to do it, because we are being LED mightily by you.

God, you are the pillar of fire by night.

You are the cloud by day, God, and if you will not go with us,

then we will not go. God, we only want to go where

you are going. We want to get in line with what

you are already doing. So God, open up our hearts and

is worth any of our adoration and praise and affection, God.

And so, Lord, we get out of of our own way and we are asking

for the Holy Spirit to come and teach us today.

God, I decrease as you increase. It's all about you, King Jesus,

Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.

Follow after charity, desire, spiritual gifts, but rather that

you may prophecy. So you're going to see that

prophecy is a superior gift over tongues, and you're going to see
4:06
that it is with prophecy that we edify each other.

And it is with tongues that we edify God.

And anytime you're speaking in tongues, it is to God and God
4:19
alone. And don't forget that it is not
4:22
for you to try to have some kind of corner on being a super
4:26
spiritual St. in the eyes of others.

That, my friend, is vanity. And it will never gain a reward

on this side or the next two. For he that speaks in an unknown
4:37
tone speaks not unto men, but unto God.

For no man understands him, howbeit in the Spirit he speaks

mysteries. Just remember that friends,

anytime you or someone else is speaking in tongues, it is to
4:55
God and God alone. It is not for us to make a show
4:59
or a spectacle of our spirituality.

Verse 3. But he that prophesied speaks

unto men to edification and exhortation and comfort.

So you can see here that the gift of prophecy is superior

because you are able to build each other up and teach each
5:20
other and to comfort each other with God's Word.

Four, He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself,

but he that prophecies edifies the church.

So you can see there that sometimes there are spiritual
5:42
groanings that we do not even know how to articulate in our
5:46
human language, friends. And God gives some the gift of
5:51
speaking in tongues, and it is for our edification and it is
5:56
for God's glory. Friends, it is not for us to
6:01
usurp any kind of spiritual superiority over the masses or
6:07
over others. And it is a heresy to say that
6:11
we need to speak in tongues in order to be saved.

That is unbiblical. And it is ignorance of the Word
6:18
of God that plagues the church today.

Five, I wish that you all spoke with tongues, but rather that
6:30
you prophesied. For greater is he that
6:32
prophesized than he that speaks in tongues, except he interprets
6:38
that the church may receive edifying.

So here there are many mandates by God Almighty in His inspired
6:50
fallible word that tells us to not publicly speak in tongues
6:55
unless there is someone there who can interpret what it is
6:58
that you were saying. And that is a gift that is
7:00
given, friends. And so therefore we need to not
7:05
go against what Scripture tells us.

If you are speaking in the angelic tongue and there is no
7:12
one there who will interpret or feels comfortable or has that
7:17
gifting, then you should only speak in tongues to yourself and
7:21
not make a spectacle out of it. And not 'cause the attention to
7:26
fall upon you. We give all adoration and
7:30
attention and affection unto Christ Jesus.

He deserves and is worthy of all of our adoration and we do not
7:39
take that away from Him. He will share His glory with no
7:43
one friends, and you need to understand that it is a weighty
7:47
matter when you were in a congregation.

And we are there to praise and honor God Almighty, and we are
7:55
there to lift His Son up high above all of our circumstances

and emotions. And then if someone within the
8:05
congregation causes a scene, it is taking away from the entire
8:11
point of the matter, which is to honor and to glorify God
8:15
Almighty. Friends, we do not need to be
8:19
childish and immature, and to cause a scene and to cause eyes
8:24
to fall upon us. Friends, that is not glorifying
8:28
unto God. 6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking tongues,
8:38
what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by
8:43
revelation, by knowledge, or by prophesying or doctrine?

So he's going to say here in just a minute that he would

rather speak 5 words that can be discerned and edify than

thousands of the spiritual language that sounds a whole lot

like babbling. It sounds a whole lot like
9:10
gibberish and if no one is there to understand the angelic
9:15
tongue, it profits everyone around nothing and that is what

is referenced here. He would rather come with
9:23
intelligible words that build up others, than to come trying to
9:29
edify himself, and to glory, and to give God glory with the
9:34
Speaking of in tongues. 7 and even things without life giving
9:41
sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction
9:45
in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harp?

8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall
9:52
prepare himself to the battle? Think about it, friends, in the
9:57
very simple aspect of a musical instrument.

If you are off key and off note, it does not profit anyone around

you. It is an annoyance.

It is a distraction. Think about it, whenever someone

is banging upon a piano and they are not actually playing any
10:23
harmonious notes. It is nothing but a noisy symbol

in a gong, friends, and it has no value.

And that is what you need to understand here, is that

whenever the shofar is blown in a particular manner, it is to
10:42
rally the troops. Friends, when the trumpet is
10:45
blown, it is to rally all of those who will be caught up into
10:51
the air. Think about it, friends, We need
10:54
not try and make any kind of public display and try to get
11:01
the attention off of God and get the attention on ourselves.

That, my friends, is not pleasing unto the Lord.

We prepare ourselves for battle. We wait for the sound of an
11:17
Archangel, the voice of an Archangel for the last Trump.

Friends, that's what we wait for earnestly.
11:24
We wait for expectantly. We prepare ourselves for battle.

9 So likewise you accept, you utter by the tongue words easy
11:35
to be understood. How shall it be known what is
11:38
spoken for? You shall speak into the air.

And that's what you see a lot of times in these congregations.

It's just a big show. Far be it from us.
11:47
The Speaking of tongues is in reality a gift of God and so is
11:53
the interpretation. And we need to make sure that we
11:56
have order friends, and we need to make sure that what we are
12:00
doing is honoring unto God. And we do not need to be manic
12:05
and we do not need to be driven. It is the demonic possession
12:11
that drives, and it's just like the herd of pigs that went down
12:18
the slope. They were driven by the demonic
12:21
activity. But the Holy Spirit, he leads
12:24
us, friends, and He will lead us in order.

Because God is not the author of confusion, friends.

He gives us a sound mind and we're not so incredibly hijacked
12:38
that we're not able to control our senses.

Friends, we do not just speak into the air. 10 There are, it

may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them
12:53
is without signification. So God gave the gift of language

to mankind so that we can reason, friends, and so that we
13:03
can come together and so that we can build each other up.

It is a gift of God and that is what He wants us to know, is
13:11
that we, we should not be, just like with eschatology, friends.

It should not just be for the curious, and it should not just
13:25
be for us to try to gain an angle on our fellow brothers and
13:31
sisters so that we can try to act as if we are superior in our
13:35
walk with him. Far be it from us to take this
13:39
approach when it comes to eschatology or whenever it comes
13:43
to the speaking in tongues. It's not just to satisfy the
13:48
curiosity of those. It is for God's glory, friends,
13:56
and He does not want us to be ignorant of it, but He also does
14:00
not want us to try and Lord it over others.

That is the way of the Gentile world.

That is the way of the pagans, and we are called not to be
14:11
that. We should be building up our
14:13
brothers and sisters with the little facets of knowledge that
14:17
God has deposited into our lives in our sanctification.

It is for the building up of our brothers and sisters as we walk
14:26
this journey out together. And God is faithful to continue
14:29
to reveal more and more and more of His plan.

But we do not need to use the Bible and use religion for our
14:38
own selfish, greedy gain, friends.

And no matter if that looks like trying to pretend whenever it
14:44
comes to speaking in tongues, trying to gain people's favor,
14:50
trying to get people to follow you, far be it from us to ever
14:55
take this approach. 11 Therefore, if I know not the
15:01
meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaks a
15:05
barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.

So that is what he is saying. Don't try to speak in the gift
15:16
of tongues on your own. Let the Holy Spirit give it to
15:21
you, friends. If you do not have it, do not
15:25
try to cultivate it. If you do not have that
15:29
giftings, do not take these courses that try to teach you
15:32
how to speak in tongues. It is a gift that the Holy
15:36
Spirit gives to those as He wills.

If you desire that gift, pray to the Lord God Almighty that He
15:43
would give it to you, but do not ever manufacture it.

Friends 12 Even so you, for as much as you are zealous of
15:54
spiritual gifts, seek that you may excel to the edifying of the

church. It is much better for us to have
16:02
the gifts to edify the church than it is for the gift of
16:07
speaking in tongues to edify us. Friends. 13 Wherefore let him
16:14
that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

So think about that, friends, We need a interpreter.

And so if you have the gifting of speaking in tongues, he's
16:27
saying to pray that you would receive the gift of
16:31
interpretation, so that whenever others are speaking in tongues,
16:36
you can interpret it and it will always be the interpretation.

This is a hallmark. Friends, lock in, pay attention.

The interpretation will always be for God's glory.

It will be unto God, friends. It will not be for the
16:54
congregation. That is a hallmark of speaking
16:56
in tongues. Lock in, pay attention, friends,

do not check out, read the scriptures, go back and look at

it. It is unto God, unto God, unto

God that the speaking in tongues is 2.

Not towards the congregation. And that is why prophesying is a

greater gift than speaking in tongues. 14 For if I pray in an

unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is

unfruitful. So that's what you need to

understand. There are times within our lives

that we do not even know what to pray, but the Holy Spirit does.

And that is what speaking in tongues is working out.

It is what is happening in the spiritual realm is that the Holy

Spirit in the giftings of the speaking in tongues inside of
17:50
you friends is connecting and it is articulating things that the
17:56
human language is not able to to God Almighty friends, and is for

His glory. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the Spirit, and
18:11
I will pray with the understanding also.

I will sing with the Spirit and I will sing with the
18:18
understanding also. So there needs to be a

synonymous, very congruent relationship with the giftings

that you possess and the building up of others also and
18:41
for the glorifying of God. And that is where order comes in

and that is where harmony comes in.

And that is where we see fruit. And that is where God is the
18:54
most pleased is when we are not in chaos and in confusion.

Friends, that is not from God. That is satanic at its core, and

we do not need to make a public spectacle and a show out of it.

16 Else when you shall bless with the Spirit, how shall he

that occupies the room of the unlearned say Amen at the giving
19:25
of thanks, seeing he understands not what you say.

So when you're sitting there speaking in an angelic tongue

and someone there who is not versed in the Speaking of
19:38
tongues or in the interpretation of the tongues, they do not even
19:42
know how to glorify God by saying Amen and yes to the
19:47
things that you're saying. So that is why he says do those
19:50
things at home if there is no interpreter there 17 for you

truly give thanks. Well, but the other is not
20:06
edified. So you could be doing everything
20:10
right in the edifying of self, in the glorying of God, but
20:14
you're not building up your brother if you were just sitting
20:18
there in a. Angelic communication, the
20:25
spirit inside of you connecting with the Spirit of God, and you
20:31
are commuting all of the unspoken things that you can't
20:34
even articulate in your human language.
20:37
But if there is someone there, it could cause a stumbling block
20:41
for them. And we need not be a stumbling
20:44
block to our brothers, even when it comes to the speaking in
20:48
tongues. And that is what is referenced
20:50
here in this chapter. 18I thank my God I speak with tongues more
20:58
than you all, Paul. Paul doesn't just tear down the

Speaking of tongues. He admits here that he speaks in
21:07
tongues more than any of them. 19 Yet in the church I'd rather
21:13
speak 5 words with my understanding that by my voice I
21:21
might teach others also, than 10,000 words in an unknown
21:27
tongue. He's saying it is much more
21:29
profitable to speak five intelligible words than to speak
21:34
10,000 words that no one understands.

Think about it, friends. This calls for wisdom.

Don't be so self-centered that you want to take the adoration
21:49
and affection off of God and put it onto yourself.

There is no reward. There is no prophet in that.

You've got your reward and you will not get rewarded by God if

you take the attention off of him and put it on self. 20

brothers be not children in understanding howbeit and malice
22:18
be children, but in understanding be men.

So he's saying grow up, he said in the last chapter, When I was

a child, I spoke as a child, I reason as a child, but when I

became a man I did away with childish things.

And that's what he's saying, grow in maturation.

In your maturity. Friends, we need to make sure

that we are growing and being sanctified.

It is in our faith that we are childlike.

If you do not have the faith of a child, you shall not inherit

the Kingdom of God. But he's saying in knowledge of

the word of God, grow up and be mature.

He's saying in malice and in deceit, in all of our craftiness

and all of the negativity, and in all cynicism.

Friends, be childlike, but do not be childlike when it comes

to the deep spiritual things of God.

Get in the Word of God. Learn the Word of God.

Own the Word of God. Let the Word of God dwell deeply

inside of you, friends. Do not put it down.

Let it be the first thing that you read when you wake up in the

morning. Let it be what you do with your
23:41
free time. Let it be what you do before you
23:44
go to bed. We need to have a spiritual
23:47
hunger, friends. And how do you develop that?

Well, it's the same way with how you crave vegetables or crave
23:53
water or crave exercise. You have to start, friends, and
23:57
start in Matthew. The New Testament from Matthew
24:02
to Revelation, is milk for the new believer.

If you were unlearned in the Word of God, start in Matthew
24:08
and go from Matthew to Revelation.

Read it as often as you can. Fall in love with the Word of
24:14
God, fall in love with Jesus. And when you get to Genesis,
24:17
start in Genesis and go all the way to Malachi.

Friends, don't put it down. Let it be the first thing on
24:23
your mind and the last thing on your mind and that is not

legalism friends, and that is not works based, friends, That

is our intimacy with God Almighty.

Let the words wash over you and renew through your mind and let

you be a new creation in Christ, friends, and you will measure
24:40
everything that's going on in the world by the Word of God.

Don't be childish and understanding.

You can be childish and malice, but an understanding be men.

This is a call for men to be men in this world today.

We are not called to be children.

We are not called to be animals. We are not called to be women.

We are called to be men. Men, it is high time to rise up

and be the spiritual leaders of your family and of your
25:15
neighborhood and of the world. Friends. 21 In the law it is

written with men. Of other tongues and other lips
25:26
will I speak unto this people, and yet for all that will they
25:32
not hear me, says the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a
25:37
sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not.

But prophesying serve not for them that believe not, but for
25:47
them which believe. So here you need to understand
25:52
that it is this Speaking of tongues that prove that God is
25:58
real. And you can see it at the day of
26:02
Pentecost when the people marveled that all these men were
26:05
speaking in the languages of their hometown.

And you can see here that it was a sign for them that God was on
26:14
the move and the Holy Ghost was filling friends.

And he's saying here that this prophesying it serves not for
26:24
them that believe not, but for them which believe.

It is wonderful for this prophesying to be spoken of, for
26:31
the believers to edify them and build them up, and to comfort

and exhort them. Friends. 23 If therefore the

whole church be come together into one place and all speak
26:42
with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned

unbelievers, will they not say they're mad?

Isn't that what they said to the day of Pentecost when they said

they're drunk and Peter said, no, it's 9:00 in the morning

guys, they're not drunk. And that is what Paul is
27:04
referencing here, that we need not just put on a big show.

If everybody in the building is just going around speaking in
27:12
their angelic language, there is no reaching of the lost and
27:19
those that are far from God. And that should be our heart,

friends. Our heart should be to lay down
27:26
all of our super superiority and our spirituality and to get
27:32
level with the gravel and to come alongside of those and do
27:37
life with those that are hurting and maimed.

Do life with those that are skeptical.

Do life with those that are on the fence.

Do life with those that are outright not living in light of
27:51
eternity. They're living for themselves.

And we need to make sure, just like Jesus, He was never afraid

to be around those prostitutes and tax collectors, but he

never, ever condoned that behavior.

And we need to model our lives after our Lord Jesus Christ.

And you can see here that as the unbelievers come in, they need

to see and to hear the spoken words of truth, friends.

And it is the Word of God that is useful for saving souls.

Nothing added and nothing subtracted.

We do not need to try to come up with clever little jingles for

people to get saved. It is the Word of God and God's

Word alone that is able to save those friends. 24 But if all

prophecy, and there come in one that believes not, or one
28:53
unlearned, he is convinced of all, and he is judged of all.

So these intelligible words that are spoken, the Rhema, the

spoken word of God, that you and I possess in our hands right now

that we are reading, it goes out, and it produces much fruit.

25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest, and so

falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that

God is in you. Of a truth.

What you need to understand here, It is the power of the

Word of God that goes out and saves men's souls.

The Word of God is alive and active, friends.

It is sharper than any 2 edged sword.

And the Word of God became flesh, and the Word was in the

beginning, and the Word was God, and it is alive and it touches

those men's hearts and they come to repentance.

It isn't that your story, friends.

I pray that it is. I pray that it is the Word of

God that came upon you and saved your soul.

His name is Jesus Christ and it and it is being bathed in his

blood that gets us there, friends. 26 How is it then,

brothers, when you come together, everyone of you has a

Psalm, has a doctrine and has a tongue, has a revelation as an

interpretation. Let all things be done unto

edifying. That is, the model friends of a

house church should be the model friends of our congregations.

Friends. This is what we do when we come
30:41
together as brothers and sisters in the Lord.

He's telling us, when you come together, somebody has a song,

somebody has doctrine, somebody has tongue, somebody has a

revelation, somebody has an interpretation.

But look, all of it is done for the building up of others.

It is not to prove our superiority and our

spirituality. 27 If any man speaks in an unknown tongue, let

it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course, and
31:19
let one interpret. So we should not even speak in
31:23
tongues unless there is an interpreter there.

But if there is an interpreter present, then he's saying no
31:28
more than three can go at a time, because he's going to tell
31:35
you why. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent
31:42
in the church, and let him speak to himself and to God.

Sit there within the own confines without drawing
31:50
attention to yourself, and speak in tongues.

If God is laying it on your heart and you do not know how to
31:57
articulate it in a way that edifies others, do it unto

yourself and do it at the house, friends.

Do it in the privacy of your own life.

Do not cause a scene. Do not cause a commotion.

Do not be driven, friends. Do not become manic friends. 29

Let the prophet speak two or three, and let the other judge.

So that is what you need to understand when they were coming

together. And when we come together, we

don't just get to say thus says the Lord, and come up with some

new doctrine. Every single thing that gets

prophesied is measured by the revealed will of God.

Friends, this is the complete authority of God, nothing added

and nothing subtracted. So everything that gets

prophesied must be in line with the word of God and if it is

not, it is not accepted. 30 If anything be revealed to another

that sits by. Let the first hold his peace.

We don't need to sit there and over talk and over chatter each

other. We should be able.

If it is truly a word from God, it will not leave your mind in

the time that it takes someone else to finish their thought.

And if you get to the end of them finishing their thought and

your word that you received is gone, then let it go.

It was not for that time. Sometimes the Lord will speak to

us intimately for our own edification, and not for the
33:33
edification of the body. Friends 31 For you may all
33:40
prophecy 1 by 1 that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

That's the whole point of the whole matter, is what

prophesying is chosen and preferred over.

The Speaking of tongues is for our comfort and for our
33:58
learning, so that we can be grown up in the Lord and be

sanctified. Friends 32 And the spirits of

the prophets are subject to the prophets.

It all has to be congruent in and in line with the Word of

God. It cannot just be some new
34:18
teaching, some new tangent. Friends.

And there have been many that have been LED astray by very
34:25
ravenous wolves and sheep's clothing.

These violent men that take over silly, gullible people who only
34:34
