Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: College Football Chaos: Texas-Tennessee, Georgia’s Dominance & Florida’s Rise | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: We'll bounce around like we do on Monday, so we'll
- 0:04Speaker 1: rotate around the table, pick a game, and we'll talk
- 0:07Speaker 1: about that as we roll through college football. Later in
- 0:10Speaker 1: the show, we'll get to the NFL. All three losers
- 0:13Speaker 1: today on the desk, including the Rams last night on
- 0:17Speaker 1: Monday Night Football. I'll break down on that coming up.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Sound from Bo Nix on that win later here on
- 0:24Speaker 1: Sporting State as we get going. Presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:27Speaker 1: This is the next round. Thanks for being with us.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'll start first. I'll start with number one, Texas, in
- 0:34Speaker 1: the latest poll, staying there. Tennessee only drops to 17.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Texas and Tennessee. Let's jump into Steve Sarkeesian first. You
- 0:43Speaker 1: see the AP Top 25 poll that came out. Texas, Georgia,
- 0:46Speaker 1: Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, Florida up to eight,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Ole Miss nine, BYU ten. Five SEC teams in the
- 0:56Speaker 1: top ten there. So much so that The AP sort
- 1:01Speaker 1: of let everybody know how the voting goes, by the way.
- 1:03Speaker 1: There's 10 SEC teams again this week, and there was
- 1:08Speaker 1: some talk around the country from people I'm sure like
- 1:11Speaker 1: Danny Connell, who says there's SEC bias in the AP poll.
- 1:15Speaker 1: The AP lets you know that 30% of the voters,
- 1:19Speaker 1: only 30% of the voters are from the SEC footprint.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's spread out around the country that to have 10–
- 1:26Speaker 1: Ten out of 69 voters to have 10 teams ranked
- 1:29Speaker 1: that most of the votes had to come from outside
- 1:31Speaker 1: of the SEC footprint.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So, yeah, I could barely keep my eyes open. I
- 1:36Speaker 2: was driving back from Nashville this morning and I was
- 1:38Speaker 2: listening to Cannell for a little bit and he was like,
- 1:40Speaker 2: Missouri being ranked is a complete joke. And I'm like.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I thought Missouri played pretty well against Mississippi. They've got
- 1:47Speaker 2: one loss now.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Ball in hand. Their clock management wasn't great.
- 1:51Speaker 2: That is one of the top 25 teams in college football.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I agree. You watch all the games, and we're going
- 1:56Speaker 1: to jump into all of them. You watch all the games,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and I'm not saying there's not great teams, not just
- 2:01Speaker 1: good teams, great teams in other conferences, but I mean,
- 2:05Speaker 1: those 10 teams that are ranked are, I think, 10
- 2:07Speaker 1: of the best 25 teams in the country.
- 2:09Speaker 2: The best team in college football right now is in
- 2:11Speaker 2: the SEC.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not named Texas, but we'll start with Texas.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Number one, Texas. They've got the number one ranking. Steve Sarkeesian,
- 2:17Speaker 1: they go in. They do what it takes to win
- 2:19Speaker 1: in Knoxville in front of President Trump and 102,000 fans.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Here's Stark after a 20-17 win over the Volunteers.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I think no team in the country had more wins
- 2:31Speaker 3: against top 25 teams since 2023. So we're kind of
- 2:36Speaker 3: used to this environment. We're kind of used to this arena.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And I know we may not always be our best
- 2:42Speaker 3: and play super clean football, and I get it. We're
- 2:44Speaker 3: held to a different standard than maybe other places. But
- 2:49Speaker 3: we win big games around here.
- 2:50Speaker 2: We do.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And I know we don't win them all, but we
- 2:52Speaker 1: won a lot of them. Now, other than going Calvin
- 2:56Speaker 1: on the quarterback after the sack and urinating, the urination celebration,
- 3:01Speaker 1: Colin Simmons was a beast. Ten sacks of Faison Brandon.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Arch got sacked six times. I think it was just
- 3:09Speaker 1: great defensive edge play, not really. Those are two pretty
- 3:12Speaker 1: good offensive lines.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I mean, 16 total sacks, 26 tackles for losses. I mean, yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 2: they were living in the backfield. Colin Simmons was unblockable.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You've got to do something. You've got to make some
- 3:21Speaker 2: kind of adjustment if you're Hypel.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Take one guy out of the– bring an extra offensive
- 3:25Speaker 1: lineman in, take one guy out of the route. It
- 3:27Speaker 1: was just– it was amazing that he continued to get
- 3:30Speaker 1: the pressure he got, and there was– like you, there
- 3:32Speaker 1: was nothing it didn't seem– Tennessee adjusted to try to
- 3:36Speaker 1: help out their tackle.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And the last thing you wanted for Faison Brandon to
- 3:39Speaker 2: have that kind of pressure on him in his first really,
- 3:41Speaker 2: really big game. You know what's crazy? That onside kick
- 3:44Speaker 2: at the end. Like when they got it, first of all,
- 3:47Speaker 2: I thought that they were going to tie the game
- 3:48Speaker 2: and I thought they were ultimately going to win. It
- 3:50Speaker 2: just had that weird feeling like how in the hell
- 3:52Speaker 2: do they have ball in hand in this situation?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Because at 20-10, that game was so over.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I was listening to actually because we were between venues
- 4:00Speaker 2: and I was listening to when Relique Brown scored that
- 4:02Speaker 2: final touchdown, and our buddy Mike Keith is on the call,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and he's just completely deflated.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that game's over.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But that onside kick, I'd never seen it executed like that.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I didn't think it was legal.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It's not.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I've never seen it. They came out after the fact
- 4:16Speaker 1: and said it is not legal. Apparently the actual drop
- 4:18Speaker 1: kick is not what makes it illegal. Terry McCauley? Yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Terry McCauley's the one. that said on a kick after
- 4:26Speaker 1: a score, the ball has to be, the tip of
- 4:28Speaker 1: the ball at least, has to be touching the 35.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, unless it's a safety.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Unless it's a safety. But after a touchdown or a
- 4:33Speaker 1: field goal, tip of the ball has to be touching
- 4:36Speaker 1: the 35. So I guess if there's a way you
- 4:38Speaker 1: could execute that and the tip of the ball is
- 4:40Speaker 1: touching the 35, it becomes legal.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't know, but can you imagine? What would the
- 4:44Speaker 2: SEC have done today if Texas would have lost that game?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Because nobody in real time... Because Steve Shaw is in
- 4:50Speaker 1: the booth, obviously. Perhaps I missed it. They had terrible
- 4:53Speaker 1: audio issues in the booth. But I never heard Steve say, hey, guys,
- 4:57Speaker 1: that's an illegal kick. It happened so quickly. It happened
- 5:00Speaker 1: so fast, yeah. You'd have to pick that up on review. Yeah, but,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I mean, they should have. The first one went out
- 5:06Speaker 1: of bounds, right? And somebody, was there too many?
- 5:08Speaker 2: No, he called timeout.
- 5:09Speaker 1: He called timeout, yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 2: And then with the opposite side.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It worked great, and I was like, this is Dippin' Dots.
- 5:15Speaker 1: This is the future of onside kicks. This is what
- 5:18Speaker 1: everybody's going to do. But now we know you can't
- 5:21Speaker 1: do it.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Obviously, the hands team's out there, and it hits probably
- 5:24Speaker 2: the best hands on the team in Ryan Wingo, and
- 5:26Speaker 2: that ball was on the ground for so long with
- 5:28Speaker 2: nobody around it. That's why I was like, man, this
- 5:32Speaker 2: is fate. Something's going to happen. Tennessee's going to win
- 5:34Speaker 2: this game.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Then Tennessee fans won't pass interference in the end zone, which...
- 5:39Speaker 1: On Hail Mary's, you just generally don't get that. You don't,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but it did look like they were hindering his jump. Oh,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I kind of thought so, too. Yeah, like if that
- 5:47Speaker 1: ball's thrown from the 20, that's pass interference. For some reason,
- 5:50Speaker 1: when they throw it from the 50, eh, we're not
- 5:52Speaker 1: going to call pass interference there. Yeah, I thought so, too.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Ask Ole Miss. Listen, the pass rush, for one reason,
- 6:00Speaker 1: Tennessee friends were on the golf course yesterday. They were like,
- 6:03Speaker 1: we asked Lugues early, if you want to see it,
- 6:05Speaker 1: Monday morning quarterback, what happens if, to young quarterbacks, why
- 6:10Speaker 1: they don't necessarily get the reads right and everything. Part
- 6:14Speaker 1: of it is just that pass rush. And Brandon, bless
- 6:16Speaker 1: his heart, had no time to breathe back there. But
- 6:20Speaker 1: then on that drive to make it 20-17... very composed
- 6:24Speaker 1: and made a really good throw to the pylon to
- 6:26Speaker 1: give them that chance.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I didn't think he played that bad. I think he's
- 6:29Speaker 2: going to be fine.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I do too.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I just, you know, this is probably not when you
- 6:33Speaker 2: wanted to play Texas because give Will Muschamp a lot
- 6:35Speaker 2: of credit, what they were able to do against Deshaun
- 6:38Speaker 2: Bishop and then the pressure they applied. That was the
- 6:41Speaker 2: difference of the game. Now, special teams on the other
- 6:43Speaker 2: side almost got Texas in a lot of trouble. I
- 6:46Speaker 2: think Texas is good. I've only seen one really good
- 6:49Speaker 2: quarter from Texas though. And when you look at the
- 6:51Speaker 2: schedule coming up, I think Texas is going to lose
- 6:52Speaker 2: three games. Now, I still think there's a good chance
- 6:55Speaker 2: they would get in the college football playoff with three losses,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but I think they've got.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Three coming up. When you have Florida and Mississippi State
- 7:03Speaker 1: and Kentucky playing like they're playing, there are a lot
- 7:06Speaker 1: of teams that all of a sudden their schedule– looks
- 7:08Speaker 1: even tougher now because those were games that you were
- 7:11Speaker 1: not expecting to be ranked challenging games. Now, I personally
- 7:14Speaker 1: think Colin Simmons should have been ejected from the game.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I do too. And had he been, I think Tennessee
- 7:19Speaker 1: might have won that game.
- 7:20Speaker 2: For doing the Calvin and Huff?
- 7:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Let me tell you why I believe it and you
- 7:24Speaker 2: see if you agree with me. I thought it was
- 7:26Speaker 2: somewhat tacky. I thought it was very, very creative. I've
- 7:32Speaker 2: never seen that. I've never seen it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But here's why. See if you agree, Brant. We eject
- 7:37Speaker 1: the guy for targeting. Correct. And sometimes it's not, now
- 7:41Speaker 1: we'll get to the Oregon USC one, but sometimes it's
- 7:43Speaker 1: not intentional targeting.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It's just, you know, DB receiver. Quarterback lowers his head.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, whatever.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And it's targeting.
- 7:49Speaker 2: The guy's ejected.
- 7:50Speaker 1: This is premeditated, unzipping, pulling your junk out, and then
- 7:54Speaker 1: urinating back and forth on a guy. You've thought about this.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That's right. It's a first-degree unzipping. It's premeditated.
- 8:03Speaker 2: It is.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It's premeditated unzipping.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It was.
- 8:05Speaker 1: He had that one. And, by the way, a little
- 8:08Speaker 1: bit of a brag. He reached deep in there, yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 1: When Leek Brown scored the touchdown, the one he did,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I didn't understand it. I mean, that's like. Sweaty balls. Yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I don't know that I ejected him, but I
- 8:23Speaker 1: would have had no problem if they had ejected Colin
- 8:26Speaker 1: Simmons there. I thought that was beyond.
- 8:28Speaker 2: What number sack was that?
- 8:29Speaker 1: Oh, God. I think it was fourth.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Well, the only reason I bring it up, I mean, like,
- 8:33Speaker 2: if you get him out early enough, that's a big difference.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I mean, it was the first half, right? Yeah, it
- 8:38Speaker 1: was the first half. I don't remember. Yeah, yeah, it
- 8:39Speaker 1: was the first half. I thought it was his fourth sack,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but maybe I'm wrong. Well, it could have been in
- 8:42Speaker 1: the first half. Could have been. No, no, I... Again,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I think it's up to the... I checked with Steve Shaw.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I can tell you what Steve told me, if you.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Care, Jim.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Because I didn't know what's the mechanism for that, right?
- 8:54Speaker 1: I mean, can you just throw a guy out because
- 8:56Speaker 1: like that's bad? And Steve said he thought it was
- 9:00Speaker 1: a good unsportsmanlike conduct call. He was okay with it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: But if they had ejected the player, he says, I
- 9:06Speaker 1: also think that was supported. Like he would not have
- 9:09Speaker 1: had a problem with the player being ejected. But he
- 9:11Speaker 1: said he was okay with simply.
- 9:12Speaker 2: The Xbox One call. And Steve's been doing it a
- 9:14Speaker 2: long time. Again, I wouldn't have ejected him. It was
- 9:17Speaker 2: very over the top. But if he would have gotten ejected,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I don't think Steve Sarkeesian would have had a big
- 9:21Speaker 2: problem with it. I mean, in the moment he would have,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but I think after the fact, especially if they won,
- 9:26Speaker 2: he would be like, I understand this. This is bad luck.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I know we flag you for doing a cutthroat.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Do you get ejected for that or you just, I
- 9:34Speaker 2: don't know, but I think it's just the unsportsmanlike. And
- 9:37Speaker 2: then obviously if you get another one, you're going.
- 9:39Speaker 1: To fire guns into the stands. But based on Steve's text,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think there is some discretion with the official as
- 9:44Speaker 1: to it. It has reached a unsportsmanlike level to the
- 9:48Speaker 1: point that I can eject the player.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But a good win for Texas, not giving up on
- 9:52Speaker 1: Tennessee yet. Um, I did have one problem real quick
- 9:56Speaker 1: before I let LT pick the next game. Um, Did
- 10:01Speaker 1: you see what Sark and Texas did in the locker room?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Cigars?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm confused. I thought that was just an Alabama-Tennessee thing.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Did I miss something?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Sark said it was a tradition here. To smoke cigars. Now,
- 10:15Speaker 1: Texas and Tennessee have never played in the regular season.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But he brought this tradition, I assume, from his time
- 10:22Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa, the third Saturday in October. Nick Saban referenced
- 10:25Speaker 1: it during game day when he said, I'm all about
- 10:28Speaker 1: UT and the fans go crazy, the old bait and switch.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And he goes, I smoked cigars 15 to 16 times
- 10:34Speaker 1: because of you guys, you know, and the car booed.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. Technically 16 of 17 Brown,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 2: That was a pretty big flex.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Oh, that was a heck of a flex. And boy,
- 10:43Speaker 1: he baited the crowd right into it too. So Sark
- 10:46Speaker 1: had cigars ready to go. They smoked them in the
- 10:48Speaker 1: locker room. And I just thought that was weird to
- 10:51Speaker 1: take somebody else's tradition. And I was just wondering in
- 10:53Speaker 1: the chat if, I guess Alabama, Tennessee aren't the only
- 10:58Speaker 1: ones that smoke cigars. I understand that, but that was
- 11:00Speaker 1: a weird thing for Sark to do.
- 11:02Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Especially him being a ex Alabama assistant. Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Hey, our show today being brought to you by our
- 11:08Speaker 1: friends at Hard Rock Bet. Man, I hope you had
- 11:10Speaker 1: fun picking games this weekend because I sure the hell didn't.

- 12:08Speaker 2: LT, your choice. I'll go on and own this. Let's
- 12:10Speaker 2: go to Athens, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
- 12:13Speaker 1: The audience has been wanting this one.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Okay, well, two things real quick. First of all, I
- 12:18Speaker 2: don't think we realized how good Georgia is.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I will admit, I wondered when they ran up against
- 12:25Speaker 1: an actual team what they would look like. And it's
- 12:27Speaker 1: pretty much the same. as they looked against the non-actual teams.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Checking all the boxes.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I just think Georgia is that good. I think this
- 12:35Speaker 2: thing is completely falling apart, and I was wrong on Oklahoma.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I know the offense was broken, but when it's 14-0
- 12:41Speaker 2: in material, he's got a guy wide open. I don't
- 12:44Speaker 2: know how that ball came out of his hand.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the one for those at 14-0 where they're
- 12:49Speaker 1: down on the goal line.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It was third and goal, but the guy was open.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And he throws it backwards. Throws it backwards for a
- 12:53Speaker 2: scoop and score 21-0. At that point, you're like, oh,
- 12:56Speaker 2: my God.
- 12:58Speaker 1: If it had been Brendan Sorsby, what would you be thinking?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Well, yeah. I mean, that was crazy, the way that
- 13:04Speaker 2: thing went down.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You know what I would be thinking? I don't think
- 13:06Speaker 1: Georgia needs your help, Brendan. I think if you'll.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Just play, that could be okay. I mean, two of
- 13:11Speaker 2: 14 on third downs, seven penalties, four turnovers, just an
- 13:15Speaker 2: absolute mess. And what's going to happen is they're going
- 13:17Speaker 2: to end up wasting this defense. And Brent Venables, all
- 13:20Speaker 2: the equity he built last year, he's going to lose
- 13:22Speaker 2: it all this year.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He'll get a contract extension, which might be important in
- 13:26Speaker 1: this discussion. $ 10 million a year he's making. He got
- 13:28Speaker 1: the extension in August. I know sometimes that these contracts
- 13:32Speaker 1: are agreed upon in January, February, and you don't sign
- 13:35Speaker 1: it until August. But this August announcement for a contract extension,
- 13:40Speaker 1: for a guy who goes six wins, ten wins, six wins,
- 13:42Speaker 1: ten wins on a roller coaster.
- 13:43Speaker 2: You're stuck with him now.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You are. Here's Brent Venables afterwards saying, All of you
- 13:48Speaker 1: were in LT's DMs on the socials with Brown and me.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Is LT going to keep riding with John Mateer? Brent
- 13:56Speaker 1: Venables gets asked if he thought about bailing on Mateer.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Brent, what did you think about changing quarterbacks in the
- 14:03Speaker 4: middle of this game? It was something that we discussed,
- 14:07Speaker 4: but in this conversation, you'll look at everything, how to
- 14:12Speaker 4: get better.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Brent, do you?
- 14:15Speaker 1: I expect any possibility of a staff review, structure of
- 14:19Speaker 1: the staff, titles or duties or.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Anything like that. Yeah, I'm not there right now. I'm
- 14:28Speaker 4: trying to figure out what we need to do to
- 14:29Speaker 4: get better and get ready for Texas and the rest
- 14:31Speaker 4: of our season. And so I'm not in any kind
- 14:36Speaker 4: of place to talk about something like that.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, Chapel, we've got eight more games. I mean,
- 14:42Speaker 1: was he talking about changing offensive coordinators? The gotcha guy, yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You know, we.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Normally give the head coach a lot of credit and
- 14:48Speaker 2: the coordinators not enough credit. I think we messed everything
- 14:51Speaker 2: up in Pullman and we gave Ben Arbuckle a lot
- 14:54Speaker 2: of the credit for John Mateer when it could have
- 14:55Speaker 2: been Jake Dicker.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, who turns out can coach football.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Can coach football, definitely. You look at Wake and they've
- 15:00Speaker 2: obviously given Miami their most competitive game and they upset
- 15:03Speaker 2: Louisville as a double-digit favorite or double-digit underdog this past week.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Dicker can obviously coach. I mean, D.O. Lopez looks like
- 15:10Speaker 2: a completely different quarterback.
- 15:13Speaker 1: By the way, on the positive side in that game
- 15:15Speaker 1: from Georgia, and I saw this on ESPN stats, they've
- 15:19Speaker 1: outscored their opponents 63 to nothing in the first quarter. Now,
- 15:23Speaker 1: wherever you want to put Oklahoma, whether they're good, they've
- 15:25Speaker 1: played nobody yet. But Gunnar Stockton hit his first nine passes.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You've got to survive Georgia's first punch to stay in
- 15:33Speaker 1: the game. They're coming out and putting you down on
- 15:37Speaker 1: the canvas right early in the game.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I thought Rocky Beers was very involved. Satania got a
- 15:42Speaker 2: good number of touches. The problem for Oklahoma is they
- 15:45Speaker 2: can't run the football at all. Which was last year, too. Yeah,
- 15:48Speaker 2: same problem last year. So that puts even more pressure
- 15:51Speaker 2: on Mateer. But you guys have got to get me.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Not that they were going to win the game. I
- 15:54Speaker 2: think it was going to be a much more competitive
- 15:56Speaker 2: game if they get in there.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I did not think they would cover. I did not
- 15:59Speaker 1: also think they would lose 41-17. I mean, that was surprising.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And you just wonder if it unravels now. Well, I mean, Lance,
- 16:07Speaker 1: when you look at the remainder of their schedule, now
- 16:10Speaker 1: that you've seen what you've seen out of these teams.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Much needed by week. Much needed by week. And let
- 16:14Speaker 1: me just say, I'm not jumping on the bandwagon at all.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Y'all know how I feel about Oklahoma. It was one
- 16:19Speaker 1: of my three guarantees they will finish unranked. They will
- 16:21Speaker 1: be the top 10 team that finishes unranked this year.
- 16:24Speaker 1: It is also not going to stun me if they
- 16:25Speaker 1: beat Texas in two weeks. That's just the way this
- 16:27Speaker 1: season has gone. I don't know where they're going to
- 16:29Speaker 1: find the offense to do it, but it's a rivalry
- 16:33Speaker 1: game that would not be a stunning outcome. It's not
- 16:35Speaker 1: like Texas blows you away offensively.
- 16:37Speaker 2: No, I think Arch can help out with this.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I thought Arch was, again, average.
- 16:41Speaker 2: He did enough against a really good Tennessee defense, but
- 16:44Speaker 2: I just don't trust Texas right now. Cam Coleman is
- 16:46Speaker 2: a non-factor.
- 16:47Speaker 1: But that is not going to be a stunning outcome
- 16:49Speaker 1: to me. I think Texas wins the game, but if
- 16:51Speaker 1: Oklahoma does, not stunning. But guys, after that, it's Kentucky.
- 16:54Speaker 1: who's vastly improved. It is Mississippi State on the road.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It's a tough game for them. It is South Carolina
- 17:02Speaker 1: who appears to be coming off the rails. It is
- 17:04Speaker 1: at Florida. I just watched the team go to Florida.
- 17:07Speaker 1: We'll talk about that in a moment. That team is
- 17:09Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Then you host them. A & M has
- 17:11Speaker 1: not looked good, but then you're at Missouri. There are
- 17:13Speaker 1: a lot more losses on that schedule for Oklahoma. They
- 17:15Speaker 1: may not win again. Well, I'm not going to go
- 17:16Speaker 1: that far.
- 17:18Speaker 2: They might be trying to pay that buyout in one year.
- 17:21Speaker 1: South Carolina looks like it's about to be a mess.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I think A & M' s a mess, too.
- 17:26Speaker 1: A & M is currently a mess. All right, all
- 17:28Speaker 1: these games as we continue on. Brown, we'll make one
- 17:31Speaker 1: pick here, and then we'll take our first break. This
- 17:33Speaker 1: is the next round on Sporting State. We do this
- 17:35Speaker 1: every Monday. Two games down. We've talked Texas over Tennessee.
- 17:38Speaker 1: We've talked Georgia over Oklahoma. Where do you want to go, Brad? Well,
- 17:40Speaker 1: let's go to the Swamp. And how impressive was Florida?
- 17:43Speaker 1: You know, I laughed all Saturday. Not that I had
- 17:45Speaker 1: any action on this game whatsoever or didn't even make
- 17:48Speaker 1: a pick on it that I'm aware of other than
- 17:49Speaker 1: saying I think Florida will win. But I was laughing
- 17:51Speaker 1: all week thinking of people like, why is Florida favored
- 17:55Speaker 1: in this game? Why is Florida favored in this game?
- 17:57Speaker 1: And then you watch the game and go, that's why
- 17:58Speaker 1: Florida's favored in this game. And this is not hyperbole
- 18:03Speaker 1: for me, and it's not just the SEC. If I
- 18:04Speaker 1: handed out a Heisman for September, I'd give it to
- 18:06Speaker 1: Jaden Ball. Yeah, I mean, I would not have a
- 18:09Speaker 1: problem with it. I mean, Jeremiah Smith has been... Hell
- 18:11Speaker 1: of a job, but different competition. I mean, what Baugh
- 18:14Speaker 1: has done the last couple of weeks, and especially on
- 18:16Speaker 1: Saturday against Ole Miss, he was incredible. Yeah, I mean,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Jaden Baugh, they run the ball, they're physical. They are
- 18:24Speaker 1: the embodiment of what John Summerall is when he talks
- 18:29Speaker 1: to them. I guess his outward, the way he conducts himself,
- 18:34Speaker 1: they already look like their head coach. Is the best
- 18:37Speaker 1: team in the SEC playing in the cocktail party? I
- 18:41Speaker 1: don't know yet. I'll tell you this.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I sent early this morning, Brooks, my power rankings in
- 18:46Speaker 2: the SEC. I've got Florida number three.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I thought Florida-Alabama was a tough call for me because.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I actually had Alabama too. I got Texas four.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Okay, wow. Spoiler alert.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I went.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I went Georgia, Florida. I drew a line. So really,
- 19:03Speaker 1: y'all both have Florida too. I think I do. No,
- 19:04Speaker 1: you got Florida three.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I got Florida three. I got Georgia, Alabama, Florida. I
- 19:09Speaker 2: feel like after a complete month, I finally know a little.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Like I don't think we know everything because there's going
- 19:16Speaker 2: to be these Wake Forest over Louisville moments.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Now, this was a good offense they're facing, but Florida's
- 19:20Speaker 1: concern from day one has been their defense. That's why
- 19:23Speaker 1: John Summerall, their offense, man, when their offense gets cookin',
- 19:27Speaker 1: The way Ball runs the ball, and it makes it
- 19:29Speaker 1: so easy for Philo to play quarterback. But that defense
- 19:32Speaker 1: continues to give up some points. I think that defense
- 19:35Speaker 1: is going to burn them at some point. But Brown,
- 19:37Speaker 1: they ran the ball for 302 yards. Well aware. I mean,
- 19:41Speaker 1: all due respect to Buster Faulkner. And listen. Jade Ball's
- 19:45Speaker 1: a complete stud. Monday morning live, one guy in the
- 19:48Speaker 1: chat room. I think it was... was Troy, in the
- 19:51Speaker 1: chat room said, Congratulations. Buster Faulkner is going to be
- 19:55Speaker 1: the next coach at USC. I just don't know which
- 19:57Speaker 1: one yet. Is it South Carolina or Southern Cal? The
- 20:00Speaker 1: guy stalks through the roof. How easy is it to
- 20:02Speaker 1: call plays? It helps. Play clocks at 17? Just hand
- 20:05Speaker 1: it off. Give it to Ball. Give it to Ball.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Call any of those plays. This Florida team is a problem.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I'm not. I had a buddy text me, hey, man,
- 20:13Speaker 2: we're seeing Indiana part two. And I'm like, I'm not
- 20:16Speaker 2: ready to go there yet. But I do think they
- 20:18Speaker 2: are way ahead of schedule. And I do think this
- 20:20Speaker 2: is a college football playoff team right now. Now, we'll
- 20:23Speaker 2: see about injuries and how this thing works out. But
- 20:26Speaker 2: the defense, to me, against maybe the best quarterback in
- 20:29Speaker 2: college football, giving up 28 points, that's not that bad.
- 20:33Speaker 1: This game, I'm fine. I look at it, I'm like,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I'm fine. But it has been an issue for them
- 20:37Speaker 1: in previous games. They couldn't. They couldn't close the door
- 20:40Speaker 1: on Auburn and Jordan here. They struggled against FAU in
- 20:43Speaker 1: the first game. That was when Summerall was like, our
- 20:45Speaker 1: defense was terrible. And it was against FAU. So they've
- 20:48Speaker 1: shown some cracks defensively that he's got to fix. But
- 20:51Speaker 1: their offense is going to bail them out of a
- 20:52Speaker 1: lot of trouble.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And I thought Philo missed a couple of easy throws
- 20:55Speaker 2: early on. So it wasn't like Philo was great, but
- 20:58Speaker 2: it's just all come together. And Ole Miss didn't have
- 21:01Speaker 2: a sack, so the Florida offensive line is playing pretty good.
- 21:04Speaker 2: You know, we talked to Brandon Spikes back at the
- 21:07Speaker 2: SEC championship game. He was on that panel with us.
- 21:10Speaker 2: And I remember him talking about John Sumrall's got the eyes. Like,
- 21:13Speaker 2: I can just tell that this guy is a dog.
- 21:16Speaker 2: And we've kind of, you know, obviously loved the guy
- 21:18Speaker 2: since his Troy days. But, man, this is a quick ascension.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 21:23Speaker 1: It really is. And at one point now, they had
- 21:26Speaker 1: five consecutive drives that ended in touchdowns. On the flip
- 21:31Speaker 1: side of that, Ole Miss, no Q1 Lacey. uh, Chinadad
- 21:34Speaker 1: got that big hit on the thigh early on. He
- 21:37Speaker 1: wasn't the same. They get a bye week. Then they
- 21:40Speaker 1: get Vandy in Missouri. So it's not, not doomsday yet
- 21:43Speaker 1: for Ole Miss. I mean, it's, it's quick to overreact
- 21:46Speaker 1: with one loss, but we're not in that era of
- 21:48Speaker 1: college football anymore. Where are you in Ole Miss moving?
- 21:51Speaker 2: Well, I, you know, I thought Ole Miss was right
- 21:53Speaker 2: there with Florida until that fourth quarter. And it just
- 21:55Speaker 2: kind of caved in. I mean, it was, they were
- 21:57Speaker 2: to the arm's length the entire time, but it seemed
- 21:59Speaker 2: like it was going to be a one possession game.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I see the goal. Miss is really, really good. I mean,
- 22:03Speaker 2: To have wins, the Louisville win is a little bit
- 22:06Speaker 2: less today because of the wake-up set. But still, the
- 22:10Speaker 2: way they went out and had a double-digit lead and
- 22:13Speaker 2: really controlled LSU early on, I think Ole Miss is
- 22:15Speaker 2: still really good.
- 22:16Speaker 1: They still probably have the best quarterback in the SEC.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I do say probably.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I say probably because.
- 22:24Speaker 2: There are some really good quarterbacks at the top of
- 22:26Speaker 2: the SEC right now.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Two of them playing strong. That's right. While you're still
- 22:34Speaker 1: eating your Waffle House. What a matchup this coming week.
- 22:37Speaker 1: You've got plenty of time to talk about that. With
- 22:39Speaker 1: all that said, it doesn't stun me if Florida goes
- 22:42Speaker 1: and loses at Missouri. And I think I'm going to
- 22:43Speaker 1: say that a lot today.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I was about to bring up, I think Austin Simmons
- 22:45Speaker 2: is really good.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Austin Simmons has played terrific. So, I mean, that's just
- 22:48Speaker 1: going to be life in the SEC this year. All right.
- 22:50Speaker 1: That's the start of our college football roundup as we
- 22:53Speaker 1: roll through here. We'll get to some NFL coming up
- 22:56Speaker 1: as well. Josh Pate, the commissioner, joins us to start
- 23:00Speaker 1: our number two. He'll be with us at 11 Eastern,
- 23:03Speaker 1: 10 Central. Later, Joel Klatt will join us on the
- 23:07Speaker 1: Next Round local part of the show. He'll be with
- 23:09Speaker 1: us at 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central at Next Round Live
- 23:14Speaker 1: on all of our platforms. Like, subscribe, and follow. That
- 23:16Speaker 1: includes on YouTube a subscription and a like there, a
- 23:19Speaker 1: thumbs up. That helps us out tremendously. When we come back,
- 23:23Speaker 1: one more segment before we do a little NFL, one
- 23:25Speaker 1: more segment of college football. I'll make our next pick.
- 23:28Speaker 1: We'll bounce around. We had a urination celebration. What about
- 23:32Speaker 1: the hit out of the Coliseum and how everyone reacted
- 23:36Speaker 1: to that? That's coming up on the next round, presented
- 23:38Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet here on Sporting State.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Okay, back with us.
- 23:42Speaker 1: On Sporting State. I'm not the most optimistic guy on
- 23:47Speaker 1: the show, especially not anymore. Lance is, flip the script,
- 23:51Speaker 1: very optimistic guy. But I've got where I don't trust
- 23:56Speaker 1: when people do things like, It doesn't seem to be
- 24:00Speaker 1: genuine all the time to me. When things happen, I
- 24:03Speaker 1: always see it not being genuinely caught.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Up in the excitement. I feel like it's staged.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It may be because I consume so much social media
- 24:11Speaker 1: and I see so much staged stuff. What did you
- 24:15Speaker 1: make of P.J. Fleck wiping the blood off the guy's
- 24:18Speaker 1: face and then wiping it on himself late night? You
- 24:20Speaker 1: may have missed it Saturday night.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I did not see this.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Minnesota beats Washington on the road. celebration afterwards, the Minnesota
- 24:32Speaker 1: player is bleeding. Fleck wipes the blood off, wipes it
- 24:35Speaker 1: on his face. Very odd.
- 24:38Speaker 2: That's Lord of the Flies shit there. That is weird.
- 24:43Speaker 1: He strikes me as an odd bird there. First of all,
- 24:46Speaker 1: he was wearing white pullover, white shirt, white tie. which
- 24:50Speaker 1: was an interesting look to begin with.
- 24:52Speaker 2: He can coach. I mean, he's doing a lot more
- 24:55Speaker 2: with a lot less. He's got red buttons, too. And
- 24:58Speaker 2: I'll tell you, on the other side, Jet Fish, this
- 24:59Speaker 2: thing has come off the rails. It looks like he
- 25:01Speaker 2: spilled Kool-Aid.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it does.
- 25:03Speaker 2: That's weird.
- 25:04Speaker 1: No, but I think you're right. Fleck may be an
- 25:05Speaker 1: odd bird. The guy can obviously do some coaching. They
- 25:08Speaker 1: were the better team. That was not a fluke win.
- 25:10Speaker 2: By the way. That makes that Mississippi State win even longer.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I agree.
- 25:12Speaker 1: That's a well... framed picture right there that you were
- 25:16Speaker 1: able to get there pointing up with blood on your
- 25:18Speaker 1: face not your blood by the way your player's blood
- 25:20Speaker 1: he bled for us but a good win for Minnesota
- 25:23Speaker 1: And that Big Ten took an interesting turn. We'll talk
- 25:26Speaker 1: some Big Ten football after Brownie tells us about Perfect
- 25:29Speaker 1: Ten Mortgage. Well, the name says it all, Dunaway. Perfect

- 26:45Speaker 1: is Perfect 10 Mortgage. in pursuit of the more perfect mortgage.
- 26:49Speaker 1: All right, my pick next. Let's go to the Coliseum.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Oregon beats USC 41-27. Before we talk about the actual game,
- 26:57Speaker 1: Desmond Stevens knocked out Dante Moore on what was a
- 27:02Speaker 1: dirty play, made dirtier by the celebration and the smiling
- 27:07Speaker 1: caught on camera afterwards and the high-fiving and all of
- 27:09Speaker 1: that while Dante Moore laid stretched out on the Coliseum grass.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Here are the coaches' first Dan Lanning on the hit
- 27:17Speaker 1: that Dante took.
- 27:19Speaker 7: You know, I didn't see any of that. And if
- 27:21Speaker 7: that's the way somebody else was operating, it's really disappointing.
- 27:24Speaker 7: In that moment, for me, I challenged myself to focus
- 27:27Speaker 7: on the moment and the things that I can control.
- 27:29Speaker 7: Their team has absolutely nothing to do with what I
- 27:33Speaker 7: have to do and what we have to do. So
- 27:35Speaker 7: we try to have a singular focus. Our guys respect
- 27:38Speaker 7: the game. I don't think you'd ever see that from
- 27:40Speaker 7: our players. I don't think you'd ever see that from
- 27:42Speaker 7: our coaches. And again, I don't think that's necessarily... an
- 27:45Speaker 7: indictment on Coach Riley because I can't speak to what
- 27:47Speaker 7: I didn't see. I know he was quick to voice
- 27:50Speaker 7: his concern for our players, so I appreciate that from him.
- 27:53Speaker 7: It's a disgusting play. You don't want to see it happen.
- 27:57Speaker 7: It's disappointing that it happened. I'm praying that our player
- 28:01Speaker 7: is healthy and I'm praying that their player can learn
- 28:04Speaker 7: from that situation because that's not a moment you want
- 28:06Speaker 7: to be a part of.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Dante, with a concussion, I'll try not to say only
- 28:10Speaker 1: a concussion, but in those situations when You're on a
- 28:14Speaker 1: hardboard being taken to a local hospital. There are a
- 28:17Speaker 1: lot of concerns out there. But a concussion for Dante.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Disgusting is a strong way to label that.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I mean, that's such a bang-bang play. Look, you know
- 28:26Speaker 2: he's going to give himself up. But when a quarterback
- 28:28Speaker 2: gives himself up so late, the problem with Desmond was
- 28:32Speaker 2: once he got up and the way he continued to celebrate.
- 28:35Speaker 2: He showed zero remorse. And that, it almost doubled up.
- 28:39Speaker 2: And it really looked like at that point it was premeditated.
- 28:42Speaker 1: See, I think.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Huh?
- 28:44Speaker 2: He's dead on.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no, no. I think if he gets up and, and,
- 28:47Speaker 1: and immediately pulls the helmet off, hits a knee and
- 28:50Speaker 1: prays for the kid.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Different.
- 28:52Speaker 1: We view this totally different. We don't view it. We
- 28:54Speaker 1: view it as a late hit and man, you know,
- 28:56Speaker 1: this is the part of the game we're trying to
- 28:58Speaker 1: get rid of, but I don't think we call it
- 28:59Speaker 1: a disgusting play. The disgusting play. It was made more
- 29:01Speaker 1: disgusting about the celebration because there is a legitimate discussion
- 29:05Speaker 1: in football, not just this play, but in football about
- 29:09Speaker 1: these quarterbacks getting down so late. That's right.
- 29:11Speaker 2: That's right.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I, I, I jumped into all this yesterday, too,
- 29:15Speaker 1: last night. There are actual people who teach quarterbacking, who
- 29:21Speaker 1: teach their guys never to slide because you're putting your
- 29:25Speaker 1: health in somebody else's hands. That's right. And some of
- 29:29Speaker 1: the great runners of all time never slid. They took
- 29:34Speaker 1: the glancing blow.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Even my man Stafford last night, multiple times, he's going head.
- 29:40Speaker 7: In.
- 29:40Speaker 1: He's not sliding. And it is such a bang-bang play.
- 29:44Speaker 1: And Chris Sims got raked across the coast for saying
- 29:47Speaker 1: what he said at halftime that Dante got down late.
- 29:50Speaker 1: In slow-mo, it looks like the guy's headhunting. But in
- 29:53Speaker 1: real time, you're going to make a hit on a
- 29:55Speaker 1: pretty good-sized quarterback.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought Chris was spot on with that. And, again,
- 30:01Speaker 2: because the aftermath and what it looked like. And for
- 30:04Speaker 2: the first time ever, it's time for USC to move on.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Okay, so you're done with me.
- 30:09Speaker 2: For sure, yeah.
- 30:10Speaker 1: More on that in a second. But I just want
- 30:11Speaker 1: to say this. That NBC broadcast, God bless it. And
- 30:15Speaker 1: it is like it is a great cameras. It's not
- 30:19Speaker 1: even a play about play, guys. But how do you not?
- 30:23Speaker 1: It's very NFL-esque. How do you not have Dan Lanning
- 30:26Speaker 1: go into the locker room to capture the emotions of
- 30:29Speaker 1: what just happened? I mean, literally, there was, what, a minute?
- 30:32Speaker 1: I mean, it was under two minutes when that penalty happened.
- 30:35Speaker 2: And I actually think it was the worst thing that
- 30:36Speaker 2: could have happened. Raiola coming in. Like, Dante, something's been
- 30:40Speaker 2: a little off this year. Raiola, I mean, a spark
- 30:43Speaker 2: was lit under his ass.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But I want to hear Lanning talk about that going
- 30:46Speaker 1: to the locker room.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Because I want Lanning to.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Be pissed off going to the locker room.
- 30:49Speaker 2: We remember him coming out of high school, and everybody
- 30:51Speaker 2: was like, he's going to be the next big thing. Well,
- 30:52Speaker 2: the difference in Nebraska and Oregon is players around him.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 30:56Speaker 2: And, boy, he played at a high level.
- 30:57Speaker 1: And then after the game on this NBC broadcast, okay,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Oregon's just won a pretty big game for them. Let's
- 31:03Speaker 1: go down to British-speaking lady for a post-game interview. No,
- 31:07Speaker 1: we're just, hey, what a great man. The Laylor News
- 31:10Speaker 1: is next. Boom, boom. WVTM 13 here in Birmingham. Here's
- 31:14Speaker 1: the top stories. I'm like, what in the world is happening?
- 31:17Speaker 1: It seemed like a pretty big moment, yeah. Yeah, why
- 31:19Speaker 1: do you have the football broadcast for him to get
- 31:21Speaker 1: out of it? Now to the game. Oregon wins it 41-27.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Gary Patterson's defense, and we know Gary Patterson knows defense,
- 31:29Speaker 1: so this has to be a little Lincoln Riley, too.
- 31:31Speaker 2: It is.
- 31:32Speaker 1: It is.
- 31:33Speaker 3: 100%.
- 31:33Speaker 1: 460 yards to Rutgers, 504 to Oregon, and as you said,
- 31:37Speaker 1: most of that to the backup quarterback.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, look, and you had the lead when the starting
- 31:42Speaker 2: quarterback goes out at home and you end up losing
- 31:44Speaker 2: this game by double digits. And again, Oregon goes 41
- 31:48Speaker 2: points over 500 total yards. Gary Patterson knows how to scheme.
- 31:52Speaker 2: The problem is, what Lincoln has built culture-wise and how
- 31:56Speaker 2: soft this team is.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Is some of that to the celebration, too, just an
- 32:02Speaker 1: undisciplined team?
- 32:03Speaker 2: I remember a couple of years ago, actually when we
- 32:05Speaker 2: first started this, it was– anyway, the first time we
- 32:09Speaker 2: had Brock on, when I was doing the one-on-one with Brock,
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think it might have been four or five years ago,
- 32:15Speaker 2: but he said too much Gucci and Prada in that
- 32:17Speaker 2: locker room. Like, they only care about NIL. You guys
- 32:21Speaker 2: heard Lanny's comments, and I loved them. It was somewhat petty,
- 32:26Speaker 2: but this needs.
- 32:27Speaker 1: To be heard. Cut 14, Tyler. Cut 14. This is it.
- 32:30Speaker 1: This is incredible. This is Dan Lanning at the end
- 32:34Speaker 1: of his news conference in Los Angeles after the win.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Thank you, Coach, for your time.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Three wins against these guys.
- 32:41Speaker 7: I guess if you're interested in winning football games and
- 32:43Speaker 7: you're from this area, you should go to Oregon.
- 32:46Speaker 3: If you want to go to a Chris Brown concert, you.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Should go here.
- 32:50Speaker 7: Wow.
- 32:50Speaker 1: You heard the SID. Thank you, Coach. So he's done.
- 32:54Speaker 1: He's supposed to walk up, walk away. He intentionally throws
- 32:56Speaker 1: that in there.
- 32:57Speaker 2: This was his Colin Simmons moment. He pulled it out.
- 32:59Speaker 2: He pissed everywhere on that table. It is true, though. Like,
- 33:03Speaker 2: this is the culture that you have built. And I'll
- 33:06Speaker 2: tell you this. USC, his first year there was his
- 33:09Speaker 2: best with Caleb Williams winning a Heisman and playing for
- 33:12Speaker 2: a Pac-12 championship. But I was talking to a guy
- 33:15Speaker 2: that played in that game last night. I was at
- 33:18Speaker 2: a wedding, and a former Utah linebacker, I was talking
- 33:20Speaker 2: to him about Lincoln Riley. He said we had every
- 33:23Speaker 2: one of their signals. The week before, we studied everything.
- 33:26Speaker 2: We had every one of USC's signals. The only reason
- 33:29Speaker 2: they were in that game was Caleb was that good
- 33:30Speaker 2: in the first half. The second half was complete domination,
- 33:33Speaker 2: and now it makes sense. But you've got a head
- 33:35Speaker 2: coach in his best year getting all of his signals stolen,
- 33:39Speaker 2: and now what this product has become, it's... I don't
- 33:43Speaker 2: want to say it's laughable. They have a ton of
- 33:45Speaker 2: talent on that roster. But defensively, it's a problem, and
- 33:48Speaker 2: it's always been a problem with Lincoln Riley.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And I'm going to have to ask Klatt why. So
- 33:52Speaker 1: Klatt will be with us at 1130 Central. And I
- 33:54Speaker 1: don't understand. Like, I've always said Lincoln Riley won't win
- 33:58Speaker 1: a national championship because he doesn't have enough of a
- 33:59Speaker 1: commitment to defense. But why, when you go hire good
- 34:04Speaker 1: defensive coordinators, and he has. Gary Patterson's a well-respected defensive coordinator.
- 34:08Speaker 1: The guy before him. I don't know why I always
- 34:11Speaker 1: forget his name, but everybody was like, ah, this is
- 34:13Speaker 1: the guy, this is the guy. He's always had, this
- 34:15Speaker 1: is the guy. He's always had these guys that were
- 34:17Speaker 1: these good defensive guys. What is it about a head
- 34:20Speaker 1: coach not having commitment that I can't just go hire
- 34:23Speaker 1: a committed defensive guy and say, go do whatever you need?
- 34:27Speaker 2: We're talking about John Summerall. I think these teams, much
- 34:29Speaker 2: like a dog kind of takes on the personality of
- 34:31Speaker 2: its owner, the team takes on the personality of the
- 34:33Speaker 2: head coach. And Lincoln is a soft guy. Yeah, it appears, Lance,
- 34:37Speaker 2: and And John Sumrall, I mean, that's an example right there.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I mean, immediately, Florida is nails tough.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I just don't know. I mean, you, again, we
- 34:47Speaker 1: do this a lot in the SEC, but I look
- 34:49Speaker 1: at the remainder of USC's schedule, and I just don't
- 34:51Speaker 1: think they're going to make the playoffs.
- 34:52Speaker 2: And at some point, you're going to be— Brown, do
- 34:54Speaker 2: they play Ohio State?
- 34:55Speaker 1: They do, Jim. Do they play Indiana? They do. Now,
- 34:57Speaker 1: let me just say this. Do they play an improved
- 34:58Speaker 1: UCLA team? Yeah, they do. Indiana is not Indiana. That
- 35:02Speaker 1: team struggled with Northwestern Friday night. Is that your pick
- 35:05Speaker 1: to go next? No, no, no, no, no.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Indiana will lose a couple games.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Indiana's going to drop some games.
- 35:10Speaker 2: To me, SC, watching them, they've got all the talent
- 35:13Speaker 2: in the world, but I think they're 8-4 this year.
- 35:14Speaker 1: DeAnton Lynn is the name I'm trying to think of.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Thank you, Daniel.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, went to Penn State. Boy, he didn't have a
- 35:19Speaker 2: great second half against Wisconsin.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I know. So maybe these guys just aren't as good
- 35:23Speaker 1: of coaches as we think they are defensively. Lance makes
- 35:26Speaker 1: the next pick here. Pick a game, Lance. Any game
- 35:28Speaker 1: from the weekend.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Let's go. Well, just because we're talking about it, let's
- 35:33Speaker 2: talk about Wisconsin and Luke Fickle. I mean, what a
- 35:35Speaker 2: big win for Fickle. I had a rough day Saturday,
- 35:39Speaker 2: but Wisconsin was one of my plays, plus the 10,
- 35:41Speaker 2: and they're down 17-0, and they start creeping back. And
- 35:45Speaker 2: even with the three turnovers, they're able to get that
- 35:47Speaker 2: road win. And now you look, and Rocco Beck looked terrible.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Penn State had the easiest ready-made college football playoff schedule
- 35:57Speaker 2: in the Big Ten.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And now they're behind the April.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and you lose that game after being up 17
- 36:01Speaker 2: at home. I think Wisconsin's just improved. I mean, I
- 36:05Speaker 2: watched that first half against Notre Dame, and they played
- 36:07Speaker 2: Notre Dame as well as anybody's played them.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I don't know how you can go on the road
- 36:11Speaker 1: in a conference game and throw three interceptions. Lance had
- 36:13Speaker 1: three turnovers. They were all interceptions. Three interceptions and still
- 36:17Speaker 1: win the game. I mean, I... I'd like to know
- 36:20Speaker 1: statistically how often that actually even happens. And it wasn't
- 36:23Speaker 1: like Penn State turned it over a ton. They only
- 36:24Speaker 1: had the one turnover. Yeah, but Rocco Beck only threw
- 36:27Speaker 1: for 114 yards. That's how you do it, I guess.
- 36:29Speaker 1: And I think some of it is Penn State wasn't
- 36:32Speaker 1: ready to be hit in the mouth. Once they got
- 36:34Speaker 1: hit in the mouth, their schedule has been so soft
- 36:36Speaker 1: that once they got hit in the mouth in this
- 36:38Speaker 1: game when Wisconsin started to make a comeback, they didn't
- 36:41Speaker 1: have an answer for it. I don't disagree. In a situation.
- 36:45Speaker 2: But, you know, I mean, Talon, it seemed pretty, you know, equal.
- 36:48Speaker 2: But if you've got a 17-point lead, how you blow that.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Only 233 yards of offense.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Well, four straight three and outs.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I mean, that one was puzzling. Like, I'm with Lance.
- 37:00Speaker 1: In fact... If they just win that Wisconsin game now,
- 37:03Speaker 1: all of a sudden, USC was going to be one
- 37:04Speaker 1: of their tougher games. You're like, God, I think we
- 37:06Speaker 1: can beat USC in Happy Valley. I mean, we are
- 37:08Speaker 1: in the college football playoffs. And, buddy, now you've got
- 37:12Speaker 1: a loss to Wisconsin. That's going to be hard to
- 37:14Speaker 1: climb in.
- 37:14Speaker 2: This Big Ten is not good.
- 37:15Speaker 1: It's a mess. It's helped out by the fact that
- 37:17Speaker 1: Iowa also won both road wins.
- 37:19Speaker 2: That was an absolute joke. I don't know how much
- 37:20Speaker 2: of you guys watched.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I watched a lot of it.
- 37:22Speaker 2: My biggest game of the day was Michigan minus five
- 37:24Speaker 2: and a half.
- 37:24Speaker 5: Nice.
- 37:24Speaker 2: At least it was not at the last second. Well,
- 37:26Speaker 2: I mean, a kickoff return, the penalties, Kyle Whittingham. I
- 37:31Speaker 2: never say this, but Kirk Ferentz outcoached him.
- 37:35Speaker 1: How can you be as inept with offensive football as
- 37:39Speaker 1: Iowa always is? Explain this to me. And then go
- 37:41Speaker 1: 91 yards in a minute 46 seconds.
- 37:44Speaker 2: With Hank Brown.
- 37:45Speaker 1: With Hank Brown.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Well, give Hank credit. That throw at the pylon to
- 37:48Speaker 1: win the game. It was a great throw. You guys
- 37:50Speaker 1: helped me out. It was a great throw.
- 37:51Speaker 2: So I was up in Nashville at this venue, and
- 37:53Speaker 2: so Saturday was the rehearsal. But the steakhouse also has
- 37:59Speaker 2: an enjoying whiskey saloon. So I was going over there.
- 38:01Speaker 2: They only had three TVs, and I wore the girl out.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And I was like, we need this one, this one,
- 38:06Speaker 2: and this one here. But I never had sound. So
- 38:08Speaker 2: when they get the tip ball that was the difference
- 38:12Speaker 2: on that drive where the player comes back inbounds, did
- 38:14Speaker 2: they get the call right?
- 38:16Speaker 1: You know, if you go out of bounds, you have
- 38:19Speaker 1: to make a concerted effort, and it's open-ended. It's subjective, obviously.
- 38:23Speaker 2: He just seemed like he was hanging out there. No, no, no.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I thought that looked like you've got to get back
- 38:26Speaker 1: in as quickly as you can. You can't just hang
- 38:28Speaker 1: out out of bounds. That's the rule. But there's no, like, stopwatch.
- 38:32Speaker 1: There's no, like, it's got to be two seconds, it's
- 38:33Speaker 1: got to be one second. It's just the player has
- 38:36Speaker 1: to make it. I think the way the rule is worded,
- 38:38Speaker 1: the player has to make a concerted effort to.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Get back in bounds. Yeah, I just thought when they
- 38:41Speaker 2: reviewed it, because he was on the sideline for so long,
- 38:44Speaker 2: and it was like he wasn't even coming back into
- 38:45Speaker 2: play until he saw the ball get dropped.
- 38:47Speaker 1: That's right. Now, he has to, fast or not, he's
- 38:50Speaker 1: got to reestablish himself, which he did. He reestablishes himself
- 38:53Speaker 1: in bounds. But forced out of bounds or not, you've
- 38:56Speaker 1: got to get back in bounds as quickly as you can.
- 38:58Speaker 1: I did not think he did. Got in as quickly
- 39:01Speaker 1: as he can to reestablish himself.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 39:03Speaker 1: He did reestablish himself. Yeah, I agree with you. I mean,
- 39:05Speaker 1: he hung out forever. I mean, it was almost like,
- 39:08Speaker 1: like when they first showed the way to shoo the
- 39:09Speaker 1: girl away he was about to squirt water in his
- 39:11Speaker 1: mouth when they first hold on yes let me get
- 39:16Speaker 1: this intercept when they first showed the replay i was
- 39:18Speaker 1: like is this guy got too much mama in him
- 39:19Speaker 1: why did he come running off the sideline i mean
- 39:21Speaker 1: it was.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Crazy that was such a big play because that was
- 39:24Speaker 2: third and i think seven or eight when they converted
- 39:26Speaker 2: that and then they go on and they score on
- 39:28Speaker 2: that drive but michigan was so much the better team.
- 39:31Speaker 2: 99-yard kick return. Like, it couldn't have gone worse for Michigan.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Bryce actually looked good throwing the football.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And he's running the football now. So, like, I think
- 39:39Speaker 2: Bryce is a good enough quarterback with that defense they
- 39:41Speaker 2: should be able to win games. But now you wonder
- 39:43Speaker 2: where they are after that. That was an awful loss.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Okay, give me quick thoughts on Indiana. It was a
- 39:49Speaker 1: Friday night game Northwestern stayed with them. I mean, hats
- 39:52Speaker 1: off to Chip Kelly. He has Aiden Childs playing really
- 39:56Speaker 1: good football in the second half with two touchdown drives. But, Brown,
- 40:00Speaker 1: you trumpeted Josh Hoover. And I'm going to be wrong
- 40:02Speaker 1: on it. He's not anything close to what I thought
- 40:05Speaker 1: he was going to be. They've got a quarterback problem,
- 40:08Speaker 1: and you can tell they're just not, they don't have
- 40:09Speaker 1: the same, I think, you know. Again, Nick Saban used
- 40:13Speaker 1: to always tell you, it is harder to stay on
- 40:16Speaker 1: top of the mountain than climb the mountain.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And this does not look like a team that's figured
- 40:21Speaker 1: out how to stay on top of the mountain just yet.
- 40:22Speaker 1: They just don't have the same pop. I don't know.
- 40:26Speaker 1: But this is not the same idea.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Look, I don't disagree. They seem a step slower than
- 40:33Speaker 2: last year's team. But now they go to Rutgers, then Nebraska. So,
- 40:37Speaker 2: I mean, they're going to open 6-0 and then. Ohio State,
- 40:40Speaker 2: let's just give them a loss there. At Michigan, they're
- 40:42Speaker 2: still a better team than Michigan.
- 40:44Speaker 1: They're still going to make the playoffs. Yeah, but they're
- 40:46Speaker 1: not what they have.
- 40:48Speaker 2: I think they're probably 10-2. I think they will find
- 40:50Speaker 2: two losses, but they still get it.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I'm going to be wrong on Josh Hoover to answer
- 40:54Speaker 1: your question, but I do also want to say David
- 40:55Speaker 1: Braun can coach football, the Northwestern head coach. That guy's
- 40:58Speaker 1: a good football coach. From true media, Josh Hoover was
- 41:02Speaker 1: off target on 20% of his passes. and he only
- 41:06Speaker 1: averaged 6.9 yards depth on his throws. I'm wrong on him.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I thought he was going to be much better in
- 41:11Speaker 1: that offense. Friday night with Penn State coming to town,
- 41:13Speaker 1: Northwestern opens up its new $ 875 million Ryan.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Field on Friday night. We'll all get to see it.
- 41:19Speaker 1: On Maine Fox. When we come back, we'll drive by
- 41:23Speaker 1: the NFL a little bit and then get to Josh
- 41:25Speaker 1: Pate when the next round continues, presented by Hard Rock
- 41:28Speaker 1: Bet on Sporting State. Hey, our friends at Crockett Coffee

- 42:30Speaker 1: in the second next segment to talk college football. NFL yesterday.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Actually, last night.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Broncos... Come back, they beat the Rams. Before Lance breaks
- 42:42Speaker 1: it down for us, here's Bo Nix, former Auburn and
- 42:45Speaker 1: Oregon quarterback, getting asked about now leading the NFL in
- 42:50Speaker 1: game-winning drives since he entered the league.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Wow. Since you entered the league, you have the most
- 42:55Speaker 2: game-winning drives, most fourth-quarter comebacks in the entire NFL.
- 42:58Speaker 7: What about those situations just makes you more comfortable and
- 43:01Speaker 7: makes you live up to them instead of going the
- 43:03Speaker 7: other way?
- 43:04Speaker 5: Well, I think, you know, as a team, we keep
- 43:06Speaker 5: ourselves in the game at the end. And then, I
- 43:10Speaker 5: don't know, I guess it's just a belief at the
- 43:12Speaker 5: end of the game that, you know, we're going to
- 43:14Speaker 5: go out there and do it. And, you know, usually
- 43:16Speaker 5: we have good momentum and we're, you know, it's carried
- 43:20Speaker 5: us into the second half or in that case, the
- 43:22Speaker 5: end of the game. And for us, once you do
- 43:25Speaker 5: it once, you feel like you can do it again.
- 43:26Speaker 5: And that's just kind of where we are. And we
- 43:28Speaker 5: have a great belief that fourth quarter, end of game, we're.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Going to have the ball last.
- 43:32Speaker 5: And no matter what, we're going to go down and
- 43:35Speaker 5: Hopefully do whatever it takes to win the game or
- 43:37Speaker 5: if not tie the game and let our defense go
- 43:38Speaker 5: out there and keep the game going. But I think
- 43:42Speaker 5: it's just an overall belief, a team belief. And when
- 43:44Speaker 5: we get in the huddle, you don't see any flinch
- 43:46Speaker 5: in anybody's eyes.
- 43:47Speaker 1: First, I didn't think there would be that many points
- 43:49Speaker 1: scored in that game. I thought it would be a
- 43:50Speaker 1: lower scoring game.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Well, it should have been. I mean, 16-0 at half.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Denver gets second half kickoff. They go three and out immediately.
- 43:57Speaker 2: At that point, I was like, Denver's not going to
- 43:59Speaker 2: be able to move the football all night.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Real quick, though, I thought, honest to goodness, in the
- 44:04Speaker 1: second half, I thought they were going to cut to
- 44:05Speaker 1: Sean Payton and he's going to have the sheet back
- 44:07Speaker 1: call in place.
- 44:07Speaker 2: That's how bad it got. Collinsworth said it. I think
- 44:10Speaker 2: it was really, really close. You guys will get a
- 44:12Speaker 2: kick out of this. So, you know, the wedding yesterday
- 44:14Speaker 2: was at 430.
- 44:15Speaker 3: What?
- 44:18Speaker 1: On a Sunday.
- 44:18Speaker 2: On a Sunday. So I left.
- 44:21Speaker 1: That'd be like 4.30 on a Saturday for me.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I know, I know. But I ended up, I was
- 44:28Speaker 2: able to go back and forth. The groomsmen had their
- 44:30Speaker 2: own little cabin-like room. So they had Sunday ticket on there.
- 44:33Speaker 2: So I was sampling all the, I did Buffalo Wild
- 44:35Speaker 2: Wings for the early game until halftime and then went
- 44:38Speaker 2: over there and I was sampling. But I was able
- 44:41Speaker 2: to go in at 7 o'clock and just got completely,
- 44:43Speaker 2: just skipped the dinner and everything and went in. And
- 44:46Speaker 2: Matty's two uncles are from Colorado. They're huge Broncos fans.
- 44:50Speaker 2: So I had to watch a game with them.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Oh, no. Oh, no. Were you full-bore Lance Rams watcher?
- 44:56Speaker 1: Is that the only speed you know?
- 44:57Speaker 2: Wait, wait.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Had you had a bourbon?
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'd only had one bourbon. I had way too much
- 45:02Speaker 2: bourbon Saturday.
- 45:03Speaker 1: You just cranked the engine.
- 45:04Speaker 2: So I knew when they sat down to watch it
- 45:07Speaker 2: with me, I switched a transition to beer.
- 45:09Speaker 1: That was probably a good plan.
- 45:11Speaker 2: But, you know, they were talking about... We see this
- 45:14Speaker 2: every single, you know, last year that Denver would get
- 45:17Speaker 2: in a hole. They did it last week against Jacksonville.
- 45:19Speaker 2: And there is something real about the altitude game. And
- 45:21Speaker 2: you could see the Rams' defensive line was really, really
- 45:26Speaker 2: struggling with that. So, like, this recipe for Denver is
- 45:28Speaker 2: I don't know how they get in such a hole.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Because that was a game the Rams could not afford
- 45:32Speaker 2: to lose.
- 45:33Speaker 1: They blocked Aaron Donald with a back once.
- 45:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I mean, that tells you Aaron Donald was not at
- 45:38Speaker 1: full speed. When you're able to block him with a back. Well,
- 45:40Speaker 1: he hadn't played in that altitude since 2018.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Yeah. But, you know, that game should have been over.
- 45:47Speaker 2: And then, you know, you only get 17 of these.
- 45:51Speaker 2: And for the official to miss that call, like, I
- 45:53Speaker 2: don't know why they flagged it in the first place.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Because watching in real time, I thought it was just
- 45:58Speaker 2: incidental contact on them both. But then you go back
- 46:00Speaker 2: and you watch. Not only was it not defensive pass interference,
- 46:03Speaker 2: it's offensive pass interference, and he gets feet down. It's
- 46:06Speaker 2: an interception of the game.
- 46:07Speaker 1: It's an incredible interception. Incredible interception. The officials assume defensive
- 46:11Speaker 1: pass interference there. That's your problem is they're assuming– Always
- 46:15Speaker 1: it's defensive pass interference when there's contact. And you go
- 46:17Speaker 1: back and watch the replay, it was clearly offensive interference,
- 46:20Speaker 1: not that it's ever going to get called, but just
- 46:22Speaker 1: no flag and it's an interception and the game's over.
- 46:24Speaker 1: They did get screwed there. They should have been in
- 46:26Speaker 1: that situation, but you got screwed.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Best news for you, though, is that Washington beat Seattle.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Yep.
- 46:31Speaker 1: So that sort of keeps it condensed there a little bit.
- 46:34Speaker 1: San Francisco wins, but they are beat up.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I know. They're beat up, and this is kind of
- 46:38Speaker 2: what you look at with San Francisco is But really
- 46:42Speaker 2: in the NFC and a lot of, even in the AFC,
- 46:44Speaker 2: you could say this, it all depends on home field advantage.
- 46:47Speaker 3: It does.
- 46:47Speaker 1: I mean, that was the difference last year.
- 46:49Speaker 2: And so to already be in a 1-2 hole and
- 46:51Speaker 2: then San Francisco sitting there at 3-0, it's going to
- 46:53Speaker 2: be difficult. Yeah.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Okay. I want to give you props though, Jim, if
- 46:56Speaker 1: I can.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead.
- 46:58Speaker 1: You nailed the Patriots.
- 46:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Drake May? Drake May. I mean, he's bad. He's a
- 47:02Speaker 1: problem right now. It's a problem for them.
- 47:04Speaker 2: See, I don't think Bo's very good. The fourth quarter
- 47:08Speaker 2: comebacks are pretty good, but before that, he just.
- 47:11Speaker 1: He was not great, but Drake May, he's turning the
- 47:14Speaker 1: ball over, and that interception in the end zone, I mean,
- 47:18Speaker 1: that's just inexcusable. Jaguars beat the Patriots 35-6. The two
- 47:22Speaker 1: things I definitely want to get to quickly, one of them,
- 47:26Speaker 1: is how the Cowboys mismanaged the end of that game.
- 47:30Speaker 1: What are you doing? Against the Ravens.
- 47:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I mean, we pay you a lot of money. We
- 47:33Speaker 1: don't pay you college money. We pay you a lot
- 47:35Speaker 1: of money to manage the end of that game to
- 47:38Speaker 1: give the Ravens a chance to come back. Now, it's
- 47:40Speaker 1: an amazing play by the fact that Lamar was able
- 47:44Speaker 1: to complete that pass. He's able to get down with
- 47:46Speaker 1: a one second on the clock. It's an amazing play.
- 47:48Speaker 1: But their clock management was just awful, the Cowboys. You
- 47:52Speaker 1: should be able to end the game. Yeah, or end
- 47:55Speaker 1: the regulation. They would have gone to overtime. That's right.
- 47:58Speaker 1: That's correct. You don't give them a chance. Yeah, you
- 48:00Speaker 1: make the last play of regulation your kick. Yeah, that
- 48:03Speaker 1: one blew me away. And another that blew me away
- 48:06Speaker 1: was that the Chargers desperately, Lance, needed a win. And
- 48:13Speaker 1: you're going to get five turnovers and lose the game?
- 48:17Speaker 2: Justin Herbert. um very weird weekend for me because i
- 48:22Speaker 2: social media director for the chargers one of the main
- 48:25Speaker 2: guys that does partnerships was at the wedding and so
- 48:29Speaker 2: and he's from england he's from oxford england so he's
- 48:31Speaker 2: got that great accent but we were talking about the
- 48:33Speaker 2: chargers and i.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Was like all your friends are nfl contacts all the
- 48:36Speaker 1: brown friends are college contacts it was.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Pretty wild but he was talking about justin herbert and
- 48:41Speaker 2: you know He was like, so you picked Justin Herbert
- 48:44Speaker 2: to win the MVP and you do that for a living?
- 48:46Speaker 1: I'm like, you're right.
- 48:48Speaker 2: I thought this Mike McDaniel was going to be a difference.
- 48:52Speaker 2: And it seems like it's almost backfired on the offense.
- 48:54Speaker 3: I agree.
- 48:55Speaker 1: It seems like they've gone backwards. I thought Mike McDaniel
- 48:58Speaker 1: taking that offense over because say what you want about
- 49:00Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel as a head coach. It's all valid, whatever
- 49:03Speaker 1: you want to say. He's a good play caller. And
- 49:07Speaker 1: he was going to have a quarterback that's not Tua,
- 49:09Speaker 1: a quarterback that stays healthy. I mean, it's no better, Lance.
- 49:13Speaker 2: If anything, it might be worse. I thought they would
- 49:16Speaker 2: be able to go out and gash teams on the ground.
- 49:19Speaker 2: O'Marry and Hampton, you know, they've got multiple other backs
- 49:22Speaker 2: and then open things up for Justin Herbert and just
- 49:25Speaker 2: hadn't worked out.
- 49:25Speaker 1: But you're right.
- 49:26Speaker 2: I mean, to be plus in turnovers, to have a
- 49:28Speaker 2: double-digit lead in that game and then end up losing
- 49:30Speaker 2: by eight, that was tough.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Makes no sense. Detroit beat the Jets. KC beat Miami.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Two good football teams there. Maybe the best win yesterday?
- 49:42Speaker 2: Cleveland. What?
- 49:44Speaker 1: Cleveland. Cleveland over Cincinnati, yes, they're 2-1. I was going
- 49:48Speaker 1: to go Las Vegas winning in New Orleans. Las Vegas
- 49:51Speaker 1: is 3-0. I mean, what kind of staying power does
- 49:55Speaker 1: Las Vegas have? They're now 3-0 going to New Orleans.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I didn't think they'd go to New Orleans and win
- 49:59Speaker 1: that game.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I mean, I thought it was winnable because New Orleans
- 50:02Speaker 2: has been kind of an early story, too. I mean, look,
- 50:05Speaker 2: it's about to get real, though. Vegas has got– So
- 50:08Speaker 2: not much.
- 50:09Speaker 5: No.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I mean, they've beaten Miami.
- 50:11Speaker 2: They've beaten Miami, the Chargers who are winless, and now
- 50:14Speaker 2: the Saints.
- 50:14Speaker 1: That's right.
- 50:14Speaker 2: But they've got the Chiefs coming up. They go to
- 50:16Speaker 2: the Patriots. So the Patriots aren't the team they were
- 50:19Speaker 2: last year, but I still think the Patriots at home
- 50:21Speaker 2: beat the Raiders, and they've got the Bills, and they've
- 50:23Speaker 2: got the Rams. So they're about to lose. I mean,
- 50:26Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if they're 3-4 when they go
- 50:28Speaker 2: to take on the Jets.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Real quick, Cleveland beat the Panthers. It was Cincinnati that
- 50:32Speaker 1: lost to Pittsburgh. Cleveland beat the Bengals.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:35Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 50:37Speaker 1: No, Cleveland beat the Panthers, and the Bengals beat Pittsburgh.
- 50:41Speaker 1: That's right. Pittsburgh beat the Bengals. I don't know if
- 50:43Speaker 1: you saw the end of that game. Joe Burrow, they're
- 50:45Speaker 1: late getting the play in after a kickoff. No, they're
- 50:47Speaker 1: not late getting the play in. They made a late
- 50:49Speaker 1: sub after a kickoff. And then the official steps in,
- 50:53Speaker 1: and Burrow looks to the sidelines and wears somebody out.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I mean, he was pissed. Because now I'm up against
- 51:03Speaker 1: the clock because you had to make a sub after
- 51:05Speaker 1: a kickoff. That's right. I mean, just the coaching sometimes,
- 51:08Speaker 1: you're like, what are you thinking?
- 51:10Speaker 2: Burrow doesn't look happy. He does not look happy. He
- 51:13Speaker 2: looked really good yesterday.
- 51:14Speaker 1: He did, but he was pissed right there. But they
- 51:16Speaker 1: lose to Pittsburgh.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I think everyone in that division is 2-1.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Now Pittsburgh and Cleveland play a Thursday night game, which
- 51:24Speaker 1: all of a sudden is a pretty big game in
- 51:26Speaker 1: that division. Give me 30 seconds on the Texans. They're
- 51:29Speaker 1: 0-3 again. Can they dig out of that hole?
- 51:32Speaker 2: I don't know. They were able to do it last year.
- 51:34Speaker 2: You're playing with fire when you go back-to-back years at
- 51:36Speaker 2: 0-3 and you think you're... going to get back to
- 51:38Speaker 2: the postseason.
- 51:39Speaker 1: And that was a division game.
- 51:40Speaker 2: That was a division game. And, you know, Daniel Jones
- 51:42Speaker 2: gave him a gift there late with the turnover. And
- 51:45Speaker 2: I thought the Texans were going to end up winning
- 51:46Speaker 2: that game. I thought Fairbair was going to get in
- 51:49Speaker 2: field goal range and bang one through to win it.
- 51:52Speaker 2: They got the Cowboys. Well, I mean, they've They got
- 51:54Speaker 2: the Cowboys at home, and then they go to the Titans.
- 51:57Speaker 2: So two and three. Then they got the Jags, who
- 51:59Speaker 2: are red hot. A beat-up Giants team at the Chargers,
- 52:02Speaker 2: at the Browns. I mean, they've got winnable games coming up,
- 52:04Speaker 2: so they can get back in it. But, man, an
- 52:06Speaker 2: 0-3 hole is tough.
- 52:07Speaker 1: More on Eagles-Bears tonight. Later on, Josh Pate coming up next.
- 52:11Speaker 1: On the next round, presented by Hard Rock Bet, right
- 52:14Speaker 1: here on Sport & State.
