- 0:00Speaker 1: And then oh, by the way, we're waiting for this
- 0:01Jalen Carter thing, to which no information really from Nick,
- 0:06And he said, you know, we're gonna keep that in house.
- 0:08But do we anticipate I want to get your take
- 0:11on this. Do we anticipate that the league is having
- 0:13a hard time with this based on the evolvement from Prescott.
- 0:17Then on Saturday, a college player spits on somebody, you know,
- 0:22maybe the NFL said, okay, we'll find them. And then
- 0:24the college guy like, do you look at this and say,
- 0:26the NFL is kind of happen There's no precedent.
- 0:30Speaker 2: No, there's been spitting incidents in the NFL before. The
- 0:35only thing that's happened is things have changed over the
- 0:38years with personal conduct policy and you know, addition to
- 0:43that and different suspensions. So I don't think the think
- 0:47trusted them per se is an issue. I don't think
- 0:49the NFL is having any trouble with this because of
- 0:51the college thing. And I certainly don't think and I
- 0:55know this may rub some Eaglands fans the wrong way.
- 0:57I don't think that Dak Prescott thing has one iota
- 1:01to deal with it. You're allowed to spit on the ground,
- 1:03you're allowed to talk a little. I know they're, you know,
- 1:07trying to crack down on taunting in the middle of
- 1:09a game a little bit. But you can't convince me,
- 1:11and I'm sure you can't convince anybody in the NFL
- 1:14that only jailing. The only way Jalen Carter could be disciplined, fine,
- 1:18suspended or reprimanded in some way is if Dak Prescott
- 1:22also gets it too.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Like that.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Come on, if the situation was reversed, and if Dak
- 1:27Prescott was kicked out of a game instead of Jalen
- 1:30Carter and Jalen Carter spit on the ground, no Eagles
- 1:32fan in the world would be sailing saying Jalen Carter
- 1:35should also be reprimanded or it would be fair. I
- 1:38mean that is that is laughable to be even suggested
- 1:41that Dak Dak Prescott would have to be either fine,
- 1:44suspended or any reprimanded for for spitting on the ground,
- 1:48which we see a billion guys do all the time.
- 1:50Speaker 1: No, I listen, it's just weird the way it was presented, right,
- 1:54it was that he gets thrown out of the game
- 1:57for spitting, and you clearly saw him spit and I
- 1:59don't anybody had a problem with the fact that he
- 2:01was kicked out or that punishment should have happened. Then
- 2:04there was some reports around halftime or right after halftime
- 2:07that there was two sources essentially claiming that Prescott provoked
- 2:12them or YadA, YadA, YadA, and then it will come out. Well,
- 2:14then NBC then shows this as if and then he
- 2:17had like this maniacal laugh as like, you know, I
- 2:21go to you, I got you know, this wind of
- 2:23the way is the Walter Payton Man of the Year
- 2:26for the Dallas Cowboys here, so you know, you throw
- 2:28that into the mix, and that NBC kind of made
- 2:30this like, I don't know, it was just a weird situation.
- 2:33And then it's why I was wondering if the Prescott
- 2:35thing changes any punishment for Carter at all.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't see that happening. I don't. I don't think.
- 2:43So Carter has a history himself of some sideline player up,
- 2:48so I don't know.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Most you don't think the college player like the whole
- 2:52thing of Okay, maybe we'll find them. They're they're doing
- 2:55this sportsmanship thing, and then the college kid spits on
- 2:58a guy and it's almost like, that's a exactly why
- 3:00you're being penalized because that guy, you know, this is
- 3:04a lower level of football that now can say, well,
- 3:07I saw a pro guy do it. You know what
- 3:09I'm saying. Like, So you don't think that that factors
- 3:11in at all.
- 3:13Speaker 2: No, I think if the NFL is going to suspend
- 3:15Jalen Carter, it was already on their mind that they
- 3:18want to set a newer or reinforce. They always say
- 3:21to talk about reinforcing things that are already there. They
- 3:24want to reinforce that this cannot happen, and should that happen,
- 3:27it won't happen again without severe ramifications. If that's what
- 3:32they do, if they suspend Jill and Carter, that's the
- 3:35message they'll have sent. And I honestly, I don't I
- 3:38haven't even seen I've heard about it, but I haven't
- 3:41seen the college incident. I don't know how much of
- 3:43America has. I think most of America is now just
- 3:45hearing about it because it's in conjunction with with Jalen
- 3:49Carter doing it. I haven't seen it making the rounds
- 3:52on social media as much as Jaleen Carter. So I
- 3:55just think that the NFL is going to act and
- 3:56then I'll.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Tell you what high It was a pretty high profile
- 4:00game too. It's Florida or South Florida and the guy
- 4:03spits on the player and it costed the game. That
- 4:06penalty was a fifteen yard penalty and South Florida kicked
- 4:09the field goal to win like seventeen sixteen. That's sitting.
- 4:13Incident was really the end of that game, and it
- 4:16was weird. There was a Saturday night and so I
- 4:18don't know, you might be right about that. I'm just
- 4:20wondering if, yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Just in the NFL doesn't they don't want this. It's
- 4:25and why should they. It's an humane thing to do.
- 4:29I mean, it doesn't like we don't have to, like,
- 4:30you know, nail the guy to the cross for the
- 4:32rest of his life. But he is a guy who
- 4:34has some baggage with him as far as his sideline demeanor,
- 4:37and he did something that's reprehensible and he should be
- 4:42you know, in if my opinion sometimes is this that
- 4:47the player was objected from the game, he paid punishment
- 4:50for it, but I'm not the league. In the league
- 4:52always wants to make sure that more precedent is set,
- 4:56Like you're saying, so it discourages players from making it
- 5:00from doing this ever again. They don't want to ever
- 5:02see stuff like that again. So it wouldn't surprise me
- 5:05if there was a little bit of a draconian hand
- 5:08down here in the form of a punishment. We'll see,
- 5:11And yeah, I don't know, We'll just see. But I
- 5:15know that the NFL usually doesn't act with influence outside
- 5:21of what's best for the NFL.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Well, and then you know, and I don't know if
- 5:24the factors in all they're doing sportsmanship, sportsmanship, sportsmanship, the
- 5:29incident with Lamar Jackson last night, like and they saying, look,
- 5:32we got these two situations that we don't want to
- 5:34deal with. So to make sure we don't have to
- 5:36deal with either of these again, both of you guys
- 5:38are getting the book.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah, And the interesting thing is, like this has all
- 5:42happened after the NFL already told its teams they were
- 5:46cracking down this year sportsmanship. It's kind of funny, a
- 5:50little funny, but it's kind of ironic. I guess that
- 5:53these incidents would suddenly occur after the NFL. You saw
- 5:57it in the preseason, the talking penalties or some talking healthies.
- 6:00I saw yesterday just watching football NFL football that I
- 6:04thought he's that wouldn't have been called last year or
- 6:07the year before. So they're really cracking down on sportsmship
- 6:10and yet here you have, you know, incidents like these happening.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher from the Inside of the Birds podcast, Inside
- 6:17the Birds dot Com, Philly Voice as well Football at four.
- 6:22All right, Zadarius Smith in they signed him after the game?
- 6:27Is this? Hey, we were not happy with our pass rush.
- 6:30I mean, obviously Jalen Carter not being there, Jane's is
- 6:32the dynamic of the pass rush. But they go outside
- 6:35a legit, guy, This isn't just some bumb off the street.
- 6:37Za Darius Smith had nine sacks last year, So give
- 6:40us your read the tea leaves on why Zadarius Smith
- 6:43is here.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he had four sacks last year in
- 6:46eight games, which project to like.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And he had four sacks with Detroit at five in Cleveland.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Oh that's right, that's all. Good job, good good ball
- 6:56on that. Yeah, so he's a good player and he
- 6:59had I know, we'll get into this on Inside the
- 7:01Data with Sam Finkel on Inside the Birds later this week.
- 7:04Even his advanced pass because sometimes stats bats can be misleading,
- 7:08but this guy's been doing it long enough that you
- 7:09know he's a legit pass rusher, a lot of quarterback
- 7:12hits things like that. His advanced metrics look good too.
- 7:16The Eagles clearly, you know, and I know Nick Curianni
- 7:20said today that as he's a JILARI is gonna, you know,
- 7:24make things happen. He's part of the team for the future.
- 7:26He said that last year about Devin White, and you know,
- 7:29after the first four weeks, Devin White was gone. Vic
- 7:32Fangeo has made it pretty clear. Two things right, He's
- 7:35not he does not care about your contract, doesn't matter
- 7:38about playing time for him. And then the second thing is,
- 7:41as we get to know him as an Eagles defensive coordinator,
- 7:44he really is comfortable with a three edge rotation. You know,
- 7:48he had it last year with Bryce Hoff sort of
- 7:51hurt and ineffective. He was really going with early in
- 7:54the year, Jaylex Hunt was mostly special teams. He was
- 7:56going with Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith and Josh Sweat
- 8:00occupying most of that those snaps until Brandon Graham got hurt.
- 8:04Then you got to see a little bit more of
- 8:06Jalex Hunt as the season went on, and it was
- 8:09really just a three and man edge rotation. And he's
- 8:11doing that again because Jalx Hunt and Noan Smith where
- 8:14your primary where your starters and your primary snap getters
- 8:18at that position. And then Josh Ruche was the first
- 8:21guy off the bench. There was a couple I think
- 8:23Patrick Conson plates twelve reps, but he's basically there for
- 8:27special teams. So if you're only gonna play three edge
- 8:30rushers and now you've just added Zadarius Smith, and for
- 8:34the money he signed for and the history that he's
- 8:36got recently, he's gonna be in that rotation. And if
- 8:38he's number three, that sort of passed some doubt on
- 8:41what hez Ojalai and even Josh Rouche are gonna mean
- 8:45to this team going forward. Do you remember last year
- 8:47when it was clear they weren't and it played Devin White.
- 8:49After the first four weeks, they worked on some contract resolution.
- 8:54The details really never came out, but you know, he
- 8:56got his free agency and then he went over to
- 8:59He went over to play for the Texans because if
- 9:01they didn't want to wait, he didn't want to wait
- 9:03till the trade deadline. So he made some concessions. We'll
- 9:05see what happens with Azizo Jelari. If he's not going
- 9:08to play, you know, is there is he going to
- 9:11ask for his release or is going to work something out?
- 9:13Speaker 1: All right? Jeff Boscher Football at four? Here Mike Hilton.
- 9:17He was working out according to report today, he's a
- 9:20guy who played a lot of slot. Is this a
- 9:22possibility that not only are they not happy with their
- 9:25outside corners, they might be so unhappy that they move
- 9:27Cooper de Gene out there and are looking for slot corners.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you don't work out a guy and look,
- 9:35you know, especially that caliber and experience for no reason.
- 9:39So and you're right, he has a slot corner. The
- 9:40guy's got more. This is weird. You don't find too
- 9:43many cornerbacks that have far more sacks in their career
- 9:47than they do interceptions. But that's much help me. I'm
- 9:49like eleven and a half career of sacks, I think
- 9:51one career interception. So he's a slot guy. And if
- 9:55they're kicking retires and they're looking at there, I gotta
- 9:58be thinking about, well, what are we going to do
- 10:00if we move Cooper to gen to the outside corner
- 10:02Because that's our best option. They like Mac McWilliams. They
- 10:06practiced him at the slot and outside. Believe a rookie,
- 10:08and I don't know if they want to rely on that,
- 10:11and may do. They may still give him a shot,
- 10:13but also have Mike Hilton there or someone like that
- 10:15for insurance. You know. Right now, they're just in the
- 10:18exploring Shase.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Mike all right, Jeff Boscher, Football at four from the
- 10:21Inside of the Birds podcast Inside the Birds dot Com.
- 10:24There's a quick breakdown Carter, no news yet there. Uh
- 10:28Zadarius Smith is in and Mike Hilton was in for
- 10:31a workout. Those are the big stories with the Eagles
- 10:34as they now get ready for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 10:36Who could start off? Oh and two, we'll keep our
- 10:40eye on that. Motion is back on Wednesday. Football at
- 10:42four tomorrow with Adam Kaplan.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Thanks Buddy, all right, Mike, talk you
