- 3:54sci book Out A four three and welcome to sc Bookout and Friends Chat.
- 4:01So you know, I'm just gonna keep it real with y'all. Y'all know,
- 4:06once I once I get there, I go there. So I was
- 4:10supposed to have this author show up tonight and she flaked literally flaked on me.
- 4:16Am I feeling some type of way? Yes, I am, So,
- 4:21I just there's always God always has a ram in the bush, and
- 4:27I thank God for having this ram in the bush who is also my mentor,
- 4:31and the fact that she has a cool mindset about it. I'm gonna
- 4:36keep a cool mindset about it. But I will say this, and I
- 4:43don't know it's gonna get me some people liking me, not liking me,
- 4:46but I'm gonna say it. It's like this, If you're serious about your
- 4:49craft, you're gonna show up and when you're supposed to. If you're serious
- 4:55about your work, you're gonna be there when you're supposed to. Now,
- 5:00am I hitting on this author, No, because I don't know the circumstances
- 5:03that's going on. But I will say that there's been several times that I
- 5:10have authors hitting my inbox. Hey, I want to be on your show.
- 5:13I want to do this, I want you to do this. I
- 5:14want to do that, and do this and do that. But when it's
- 5:16time to show up, y'all ain't there. And then y'all wondering why the
- 5:20next time there's a project going on, Oh, Patrice, why are you
- 5:25supporting me like you support this person? Well, that person told showed me
- 5:29that they were ready to eat, but you didn't show me that you were
- 5:32ready to eat. So since you didn't tell show me you were ready to
- 5:35eat, I'm gonna go ahead pass the food to somebody who's hungry. Simple
- 5:41ass that. So I'm gonna just put this disclaimer out there. If you're
- 5:46serious about your work, just like me, serious about our black and brown
- 5:53authors, our black and brown children, before we even go any well,
- 5:57we're gonna keep on going. But if you're serious, I'm serious about you
- 6:00and I will support you one hundred. But if I feel you're not serious
- 6:05about it, don't come. Don't like. I got better things to do,
- 6:12other authors to do. Yes, I might be low on this pool
- 6:15and pool right now, but guess what. I know where God has has
- 6:18taken me, and I see where He has brought me from. But I
- 6:23can't waste the talent he gave me on somebody who wanted to work for himself.
- 6:30Okay, all right, disclaimer Rover. First, I want to thank
- 6:35my aunt Angie. I was hanging out with the seniors and New Bethel R
- 6:42m u E Church today. You guys were so much fun. That's part
- 6:46of my job that I love is getting out in the community. And doing
- 6:49these outreaches with those in the community. And today I was with them and
- 6:55we talked Christmas in July, so we did Christmas Bengo or playing the music,
- 7:01and I'm willing to come back and then again and also beyond the Walls.
- 7:06I had a great time with those kids on Fridays along with my other
- 7:10coworkers. So, like I said, I'm about putting that work in,
- 7:14even if it's for Stie bookusen friend or for my main job. Okay,
- 7:18So I'm gonna put that work in. But tonight, tonight, tonight,
- 7:25tonight, I have my mentor, and she's gonna be talking about some of
- 7:29the projects that she has going on, some of the projects that we're gonna
- 7:33be doing. And y'all, I heard that she got this project going on
- 7:41gonna help you become an author. So all of y'all, like myself,
- 7:46who is sitting on that talent and seeing you want to write that book but
- 7:49you don't know where to start. I heard she got that going on.
- 7:53Okay, so we're gonna bring up my mentor, my bestie, the Queen
- 7:59of collaboration, Miss Angela Thomas Smith. Hey Girley, Hey, m all
- 8:11right now, we go. Thank you for being my ram in the bush.
- 8:16Y'all. Yeah, man, I'm feeling some typic with y'all. It
- 8:18kind of it doesn't hurt me, but it kind of shows me the dedication.
- 8:26I mean, I can hear God say that I'll make you. I
- 8:33might not be saying it's correct, but if I can assure you with the
- 8:35little things, I will make sure you're here. I mean, come on,
- 8:41man, like anyways, yeah he said if he said, it goes
- 8:50something like this, if you be faithful over a little things, he'll make
- 8:54you money over many things. So it's the little things that we have to
- 9:01be faithful over. And just like you say, just showing up and even
- 9:07if you can't show up, just having a courtesy to let people know that
- 9:13you can't show up. Because I understand that sometimes there are emergencies. I
- 9:18understand that that sometimes issues come up, things happen, but we know how
- 9:26things that we're gonna do. So I just have this thing where show up
- 9:35for what they want to show up for, when they want to show up,
- 9:39and how they want to show up. So when people show them selves
- 9:43to you, you have to take for what they show if that's what they
- 9:48constantly show you this who they are. So thank you, thank you,
- 9:58thank you. So we all know about you. But of course we got
- 10:03some new people out there, so go ahead and tell them a little bit
- 10:05about yourself. So I am Angela. I'm a smith. I am a
- 10:16little small police inoson South Carolina. I currently live in myrtle By, South
- 10:24Carolina, by way of Atlanta, Georgia. I am the author of Who
- 10:33I Don't even know, over a hundred books journals. I'm a life coach.
- 10:45I'm just out here, just trying to be the change that I want
- 10:48to see. I do a lot of advocacy work. I advocate for social
- 10:54injustice, I advocate for domestic violence, mental health. I advocate for my
- 11:03people for a better life. That that's what I do. I want better,
- 11:11so I try to do better, and I try to lead by exam.
- 11:18I want people to know that no matter where you are, where you're
- 11:22being, that your past does not have to dictate your future. You can
- 11:28take those things from your past to be a stepping stone or building block towards
- 11:35your future. And that's what I do. Because I tell people all the
- 11:41time, I ain't no angel I'm not perfect by no way. Shape or
- 11:48form. I'm out here every day just just just trying to get through this
- 11:54day. And if I can make it through this day, then I can
- 12:00look back and I can tell somebody else how to take it to another day.
- 12:05So, hey, here, give me the opportunity to use books as
- 12:18a platform to share his goodness, to share those things that he has done
- 12:22for me. For those that do not know, I am a suicide attempt
- 12:28survivor, I am a domestic violence survivor. You name it, I've probably
- 12:35endured it. I've lost both of my parents. I've even lost the siblings.
- 12:41I lost my best friend, cousin, my big brother one. So
- 12:48I've been through some things. You know, this life experience have given me
- 12:54an opportunity to be able to share with other people. You know, my
- 12:58experience may not be your experience, but the experience may be able to help
- 13:03you through something, a nugget to take you to the next level, or
- 13:07to help you come out of whatever you may be going through. So that's
- 13:13what that's what I'm out here doing. There you go, So a little
- 13:18birdie told me that you have a new book coming out and that you're wanting
- 13:24to have other authors doing you on this venture. Is that great? So
- 13:41a couple of books that's going to be coming out. I'm working on a
- 13:43couple of projects. I have a poetry book that's going to be dropping in
- 13:48September thirty amazing poets. Shout out to them. I have a and and
- 13:56these are not just my books, these are all collaborators. So our books.
- 14:05Pamela J. Hayes and Shaniya Osborne, they are my prayer besties and
- 14:11we have been in five a M Prayer for the last four years. We
- 14:18go in for one hundred and twenty one days. We start February first.
- 14:22This year we came out May thirty first because of leap year, But normally
- 14:26we come out on June first, and we usually do a book every year,
- 14:31but for some reason last year we didn't do a book. This year,
- 14:39we're gonna close out a three book series, Learn Lovely one hundred and
- 14:48twenty one Days of Prayer but one end two and I am excited. I
- 14:56am looking for this year. It's a little different because normally me, Paum
- 15:03and Area we usually do most of the devotions and the prayers and everyone else
- 15:11will contribute affirmations. Well, this year it's like he dropped my spirit.
- 15:20He wanted me to get one hundred and twenty one different devotions, to have
- 15:26different people share their different story. So I've been asking people, what have
- 15:31God done you? Not what he did for Sally Judhn, Harry mark Mer,
- 15:35but what has He done for you that you can share with somebody else
- 15:39that may help them come out. Because remember he said we should do greater
- 15:45works. How would these people know these greater works if we're not recording these
- 15:50greater works. I can tell you some of the things that God has done
- 15:54for me. You can tell you some of the things that God has done
- 15:58for some of those people that have been on that prayer line. Over those
- 16:03last four years. I've seen people delivered from cancer. I've seen people where
- 16:11they doctors have given them a certain amount of time to live, and yet
- 16:15they are still here, you know. So I've seen the power of God.
- 16:22And these are the things people need to hear about. People need to
- 16:26hear how God raised you up off your bed of affliction, how you diagnosed
- 16:30with with one thing and God did something else. People need to know how
- 16:40you are on the brink of a nervous break, but yet you still hear.
- 16:48People need to know how you wull idle. But yet you're still hear
- 16:56like all those things we forget about, the God would see us through and
- 17:04answer our prayers. And we don't tell nobody. We just sit on it.
- 17:10We we we are some of us are so stuck in this moving and
- 17:15silent. How did God move in silent with twelve deciders? Huh s with
- 17:25twelve disciples. Somebody had to know something. Somebody had been talking, so
- 17:30there was no moving in side. Wow, man, somebody that I when
- 17:40when you when when you're a call to do something and and and here annaunt
- 17:45you and he appoint you. You don't got to move in silence because what
- 17:52was for you was for you. We I hear people say that all the
- 17:56time. Believe it, what is we? It was for you. I
- 18:02see people all the time doing the exact same thing I'm doing. But do
- 18:07you think it's stop me from doing what I'm doing? No? Because my
- 18:11gift is my gift. And if I'm true to who I am and to
- 18:15who he called me to, then you will see me collaborating instead of competing.
- 18:22That is so true. That is that I'm gonna say this. We
- 18:30have that bad in our community that we feel that we had that corner market
- 18:37and only we can do it good. I don't think so. I think
- 18:40that everybody had the talent. Listen, y'all know me. I like to
- 18:47eat Your fried chicken might be good. Yeah, like your fried chicken.
- 18:49But you know I like your macaroni cheese. I'm aa buy your fried chicken.
- 18:52I'm about your macaroni cheese. And I'm gonna support everybody. Why can't
- 18:57we support each Why do we feel that we can't accomplish that? Why it's
- 19:10like a competition, and it's like we feel like, see some of us,
- 19:18we have so many gifts and talents, and we are afraid of our
- 19:23own gifts and our talents. Because it ain't that we are afraid of failing.
- 19:30Because if we look back through history, what have we always done?
- 19:37Let them we always fail? But when we fail, what do we do?
- 19:42We always get up? And then he reminds us that over in the
- 19:45scripture, the righteous man falls seven times? How did they fall seven times?
- 19:52If they didn't get up, that's themselves out and do it again.
- 19:56But see something, we will not, We will not get up. We
- 20:03will we want a pity party. We want everybody to feel sorry for us.
- 20:07Okay, Oh, well, we we want we want to always bring
- 20:12it up. We want to stay right there in that hurt because we don't
- 20:17want to move on, because we don't truly want to hear. Oh,
- 20:21while you're coming around the front door, stop sweeping the steps. Stop sweeping
- 20:25the steps, because you're sweping my steps right there, our kids not you
- 20:30had somebody, yes, somebody told me that that I gotta look past the
- 20:34hurt and look for the future. And they were absolutely correct, and and
- 20:38and not gonna say that you won't go back and look at the past,
- 20:44but you gotta keep on going toward the future. So you are totally totally
- 20:48right. So tell us about being a place go ahead. I'm sorry,
- 20:57No, no, no, no, no, go ahead, go ahead.
- 21:04I was just gonna say that you shouldn't be in a place to where
- 21:11you're able to look at those things that have caused you hurt if you are
- 21:18truly someone that grow from those things that you've been through and someone that's wanted
- 21:25to heal. See, a lot of us can't heal because we keep allowing
- 21:30hindrance. Those those hurts, those let downs, those disappointments, those are
- 21:37all those things that throw interference to hinder us. And then once we get
- 21:45in this hindrance stage, we begin to have an attitude. The ego comes
- 21:52first because now we got this thing where won't want nobody to tell us nothing.
- 21:59We we we we we. It's just be bad. That ego is
- 22:03terrible because we everything is stream. It's just like everything is extreme and and
- 22:17you just oppressed. You you, That's that's what the ego. Oh is
- 22:25you? You? You extreme about everything? You You yet gible yet oppressed.
- 22:33Let it go because it causes you to have an attitude. We walk
- 22:37around these move swings. We walk around thinking that the world is out to
- 22:42get us when we're supposed to be moving in. Love. Love covers,
- 22:49love draws, love is action. Like you you you should walk in a
- 22:56room and people should feel your presence if you were here, see her,
- 23:03people hurt, and we need to get to a point to where here you
- 23:08know, people can help other people here. We shouldn't keep going in the
- 23:14same circle. These these lessons that that that that we are encountering, and
- 23:18we wonder why we stay in the same circle, why stuff keep happening the
- 23:22same way, because you didn't get it, like you. You, you
- 23:26on the verge like you you you, you right down the loop. Then
- 23:32you get that same mindset and then you back thinking the same thing, and
- 23:36then there you go. You have to go back through it again. Let
- 23:40it go. See a lot of us we hold on to stuff and holding
- 23:45on to it. See a lot of us we say we'll, we'll,
- 23:49we'll quick to say we'll forgive you. But I ain't gonna baby forget that
- 23:56and let it go. Some stuff you're just gonna have to forgive and forget
- 24:02so that you see when somebody when somebody to us and we want to suppress
- 24:08stuff, we can suppress stuff. So now you got to learn how to
- 24:11suppress those things that have hurt you so you can move on, especially when
- 24:15you know dealt with it. And you hear, honey, I'm telling you
- 24:22I used to play this game with people all the time. You piss if
- 24:27you want to, I would ignore you like I'm talking about. We can
- 24:33be in the same room, you can be talking to me, I can
- 24:37be looking directly at you and ain't heard nothing and responded and gave you no
- 24:41reaction, no nothing. And we got to learn how to do that.
- 24:48Wow, sweep front the front door, down manicured lawn. She now bought
- 24:56the plants cat. So let's tell you when we come into the novelge,
- 25:07when were coming to the knowledge. Let's talk about these books. You said,
- 25:11you don't, you don't, you don't put it out there. So
- 25:14since you don't put it out there, I am in. In twenty twenty
- 25:19five, I am not. I'm publishing one book of my own and that
- 25:26is going to be my birthday book. But the last four years, since
- 25:33the pandemic started, I started honoring women in my circle, women that I
- 25:42know, women that I've come in contact with, women that I work with,
- 25:45in these different books, allowing them to share their story, allowing them
- 25:49to you know, however they're led to share in these books, to be
- 25:55able to share. So we've had, we've had broken to be molded and
- 26:00mended. This year we're gonna do. I forgot what the first one was,
- 26:08Oh, Sisterhood of the Traveling the Traveling Prayers, I think the first
- 26:12one. And then this year I am turning fifty, and I it's just
- 26:21something about fifty that reminds me of glory. So half a century he dropped
- 26:29in my spirit the title Crowning glory. So I am looking for fifty women
- 26:36to sharing this book with me, not only to share in the book with
- 26:41me, but I also want them to go on a Crew book release.
- 26:49We would do our book release on the cruise ship. Up to my personal
- 26:56travel agent, Jeanette Johnson, who is over here on the Crew podcast.
- 27:03She's one of the amazing hosts right here on the Crew podcast, but she's
- 27:06also the travel agent for this event. I'm excited because I want to be
- 27:15able to face these women in this book, share your story and you know
- 27:26how you realize that you were the glory of God and his glory was shining
- 27:32on your life because not all the time I believe that you I was the
- 27:40app off his eye or that you know, he really cared for me,
- 27:45you know what I'm saying, Because I ain't always been on the straight and
- 27:49narrow. You know, I've been out there. Your girl used to club
- 27:53like when like club was going left. The five five nine used to be
- 28:00my best friend. Everybody about the five five nine by five nine used to
- 28:06be that used to And I'm telling you and and where I am now.
- 28:14God truly did a one in my life. He allowed me to be able
- 28:21to share sickness. I don't have to stand in the pool pit, I
- 28:26don't have to wear a title, I don't have to walk in the office.
- 28:32But just as his child, I'm able to share in that book.
- 28:36I want these fifty queens to be able to share. You know, how
- 28:38did they get to this point where they are now? You know, because
- 28:45most of the queens that I'm seeing around the different platforms, I'm seeing a
- 28:49glow on them. All of them are glowing because a lot of them now
- 28:53are truly walking into some things that they never saw themselves walking into, and
- 29:00they have gotten their their confidence and they've gotten just just this second win about
- 29:10them where they can believe in themselves. So I want all those queens that
- 29:15you know are in the circle, that you know want to share, you
- 29:19know, I want them to be a part of this book. And then
- 29:22I want them to go on this cruise with me. We're gonna have some
- 29:26things lined up, a couple of private situations on the ship. We're gonna
- 29:36have some little you know, some little goodies, like some some some good
- 29:40stuff, like there's gonna be a day where you know, everybody gonna know
- 29:44who we are because we're gonna have We're gonna wear our T shirts. We're
- 29:48gonna all have on the same I figure we all do white. They we
- 29:53go to Jamaica and there's shirt. Can I put my name on the back
- 30:03of my shirt? Yeah, everybody gonna have their name, everybody I'm on
- 30:06the back of their shirt. And then on the front of their shirt.
- 30:11Of course it's gonna say Crowning Glory because I want everybody to know that they
- 30:15are part of the crowd. That's gonna be on the front of the shirt.
- 30:21And then we're gonna just you know, we're gonna have some things to
- 30:23create memory. You know, That's what I keep telling people. It's all
- 30:27about creating a legacy and creating memories. So a lot of the stuff that
- 30:33you're gonna see me doing over the next few years, it's gonna be all
- 30:37about legacy and creating a legacy. You know. This three book poetry series
- 30:44that we're working on, it's entitled The Legacy Chronicle, and it is pretty
- 30:49much just we're chronicling our poetry different phases of our life. The first book
- 30:57was Seeds of Immortality. We talked about seeds of loss, seeds of love,
- 31:04hope of endurance, resilience, and individuals got to share, you know,
- 31:10these types of seeds that they in love, you know, even seeds
- 31:15that we've sown in loss, whether it's loss of loved ones, you know
- 31:21things, because the loss of things. So it is just a lot I
- 31:29am doing. I got my hands in my Yes, that's not there's not
- 31:33many things that I don't do. Charita Tarda saying, you know this time,
- 31:45you going, Yeah, I'm going, it's gonna be my first time.
- 31:48So y'all gonna have to work for the sisters because I mean, yeah,
- 31:53that would be my first time going down the cruise and I look near
- 31:57the bad Yeah, okay, guys, so well you'll have fun. My
- 32:02very first time, I really enjoyed it, and ever since then, I've
- 32:08been on a cruise every year until the pandemic started in twenty twenty. I
- 32:15haven't been on a cruise since twenty nineteen. So right, so we talked,
- 32:23I'm ready to get back out there on that water. See I'm cool
- 32:30with that. Okay, So you guys, if you don't know, this
- 32:36has been the year first for me. I've been on my first plane ride.
- 32:40That was an experience. Now next year I'm going on the first cruise.
- 32:47The plane wasn't that bad. It was bumpy, but me and and
- 32:51my friend were talking in the cruise. Yeah, I was cool with it
- 33:00until they said, you look around and you see nothing but water, that
- 33:04might be might think there, but I'm going. I mean, it depends
- 33:07on where you are. It depends on where you are, because when you're
- 33:13inside of that ship and you're walking around on that ship, honey, you
- 33:17whatever the scenery is. So depending on what kind of ship you're on,
- 33:22because like there's a ship that actually looked like Bourbon Street in Louisiana in New
- 33:29Orleans. So when you when you on, you gonna you're gonna be walking
- 33:35around and you're gonna think and you down there on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
- 33:39So it no, you're not gonna be thinking about all that water.
- 33:44Now if you have, if you may think, you may get motion sickness
- 33:50or something that you want to be prepared for that because you may not be
- 33:53used to. But I can say, as long as the waters are not
- 34:00rocky's not rough, it's gonna be like you're not either. You're not even
- 34:05gonna realize you own no ship, honey, you're not gonna go lie And
- 34:08And that was from my first experience cruise. I went on Royal Caribbean and
- 34:17it was such an amazing experience. I wanted to do it again. I
- 34:22didn't think I could have no, no, no, no more fun until
- 34:27I went on Carnival. Now, Carnival is a if you like to have
- 34:32fun, you like to party, you like to you know, interact with
- 34:37all the people that's on that ship on Carnival. You don't want to go
- 34:42on Royal Caribbean because Royal Caribbean is for the it's for the older crowd.
- 34:49But you're gonna have fun. You're not gonna realize that you own the ship.
- 34:52Now. The only time you have to be out there on the outside
- 34:54where you have to see out that water is when they tell you when you
- 34:59first get on ship and they're telling you about the safety procedure. Everybody got
- 35:02to go out to the to the what's the name, and they got to
- 35:06see where all the safety stuff at and when they go through the little procedures
- 35:13like if you have to evacuate or whatever they do that that's the only time
- 35:17you got to be out there After that, Honey, you ain't got to
- 35:21go back out there on the on that balcony out there on that side.
- 35:24You can stay inside the ship and do all kinds of stuff. Honey.
- 35:28They got clubs, they got casinos, they got everything you can imagine on
- 35:32land is on that ship. All right, So tell people how they can
