- 1:00Speaker 2: gatest edition of this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet,
- 1:03Speaker 2: or computer by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's
- 1:08Speaker 2: the greatest thing since Joe Burrow's Christmas Gift. I don't
- 1:13Speaker 2: know who started the tradition, but for many years NFL
- 1:16Speaker 2: quarterbacks have rewarded the anonymous men who try to protect
- 1:20Speaker 2: them from pass rushers by buying them expensive Christmas gifts.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We're talking cars, Rolex's, shares of stock, just about anything
- 1:29Speaker 2: you can imagine. Well, this year, Joe Burrow bought his
- 1:33Speaker 2: offensive lineman something that none of them imagined. Burrow gave
- 1:38Speaker 2: his offensive lineman authentic Japanese samurai swords. He put them
- 1:44Speaker 2: all in a room and had each lineman pick one
- 1:46Speaker 2: out based on a quick Internet search. Handmade samurai swords,
- 1:51Speaker 2: known as katanas, can run more than twenty five thousand
- 1:55Speaker 2: bucks apiece.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Here's Joe.
- 1:58Speaker 3: They wanted guns, and I was like, I don't know
- 2:01Speaker 3: about guns, guys, And so I was in the weapon
- 2:06Speaker 3: mindset and.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I was Michael, what's cool?
- 2:08Speaker 4: Weapon?
- 2:10Speaker 1: SAMAI swords I think are pretty dank cool.
- 2:14Speaker 3: And Nicole she works for me and she was able
- 2:20Speaker 3: to go and find them for me. So she did
- 2:22Speaker 3: a great job finding the best ones out there.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So I think guys were excited about it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Would I rather have a new car or a Rolex maybe,
- 2:31Speaker 2: but giving out authentic samurai swords is about as unique
- 2:36Speaker 2: as the quarterback himself. Now, time for the radio replays
- 2:40Speaker 2: from Sunday's win over Cleveland. It is a bitterly cold
- 2:46Speaker 2: December afternoon here in Cincinnati as we get set for
- 2:50Speaker 2: the one hundred and third Battle of Ohio. It's the
- 2:54Speaker 2: Bengals versus the Cleveland Browns in a game the Bengals
- 2:58Speaker 2: must win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
- 3:02Speaker 1: First and goal inside the one.
- 3:03Speaker 2: They handed off to Deontay Foreman Shaka Hayward grabbed him
- 3:07Speaker 2: near the one, but couldn't bring them down shy of
- 3:10Speaker 2: the goal line. It's a touchdown for the Cleveland Browns.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The Bengals say they have the ball, but an official
- 3:16Speaker 2: made the touchdown signal. Well, the Cleveland Browns just Cleveland Browned,
- 3:22Speaker 2: at least for twenty twenty four.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They had it.
- 3:24Speaker 2: First down and goal inside the one. Deontay Foreman, at
- 3:28Speaker 2: two hundred and thirty five pounds, had the ball in
- 3:31Speaker 2: his right hand as he was going toward the goal line.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Von Bell, with a right hand cross punched it out,
- 3:38Speaker 2: then recovered it and although one official said it was
- 3:41Speaker 2: a touchdown, when they looked at the replay, the ball
- 3:43Speaker 2: was clearly out and the Bengals takeover at their own
- 3:47Speaker 2: one yard line. Amazing first down and goal from the two.
- 3:50Speaker 2: The ball is on the left. Hash Burrow in the
- 3:53Speaker 2: shotgun back at the eight, chase Brown to his left.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yosi Bosch goes in motion, now goes back in the
- 3:58Speaker 2: original direction. Burrow steps up, throws and it's caught for
- 4:03Speaker 2: the touchdown. Te Higgins with the catch. He tosses the
- 4:07Speaker 2: ball way up into the air like a geyser. Burrow
- 4:12Speaker 2: is being pulled down and just flung it forward for
- 4:15Speaker 2: the touchdown.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Chase out wide to the right.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yo Si Bosh in the slot to the right, Burrow
- 4:20Speaker 2: catches the shotgun snap drops back to the fifteen fires
- 4:24Speaker 2: caught in the middle of the end zone by Yo
- 4:27Speaker 2: Sibosh for the Bengals touchdowns.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Nice spike.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yoshi got some good verdic catalie off of that spike
- 4:35Speaker 4: and a high high percentage of this guy's catchers are
- 4:39Speaker 4: red zone touchdowns.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Kye York is ready from the Bengals logo in the
- 4:43Speaker 2: middle of the field the snap the placement here comes
- 4:46Speaker 2: the fifty nine yard try. It is good whoo mate
- 4:53Speaker 2: Cade York ties the Bengals franchise record with a fifty.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Nine yard field goal.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Has The half comes to an end when the Bengals
- 5:04Speaker 2: leading seventeen nothing, second in goal from the four. They
- 5:08Speaker 2: hand it off to Jerome Ford again and he will
- 5:11Speaker 2: waltz into the end zone for a Cleveland Browns touchdown.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Third down and six from the Cincinnati eight. A big
- 5:18Speaker 2: play here with the Bengals up by eleven. Shotgun snap
- 5:21Speaker 2: Thompson Robinson lobbs went into the end zone, intercepted by
- 5:25Speaker 2: Jordan Battle.
- 5:26Speaker 5: He'll take a knee in the end zone.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Chino Stone putting pressure on the quarterback, leading to the
- 5:35Speaker 2: end zone pick for Jordan Battle.
- 5:38Speaker 4: And what a terrible throw, what a terrible decision. I mean,
- 5:41Speaker 4: now you got two red zone turnovers. You have a
- 5:43Speaker 4: fumble at the one yard line, and as he's delivering
- 5:46Speaker 4: the football, I mean he gets hit and just really,
- 5:50Speaker 4: I mean, just just throw it away. Don't try to
- 5:52Speaker 4: throw it into the end zone to score. Bengals will
- 5:54Speaker 4: take it though two red zone takeaways, third.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Down and five.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Shotgun snap Thompson Robinson, under pressure, begins running right, he looks,
- 6:04Speaker 2: he lobs it downfield and it is intercepted on a
- 6:08Speaker 2: ricochet by Geno Stone. The third game in a row
- 6:14Speaker 2: where Geno Stone has come away with a pick Djivy
- 6:18Speaker 2: deflected it. The pass was intended for Najoku and Geno
- 6:23Speaker 2: Stone has an it for the third game in a row,
- 6:28Speaker 2: Cincinnati seventeen, Cleveland six, and on fourth and twenty seven,
- 6:34Speaker 2: the Browns have to go for it. They snap at
- 6:37Speaker 2: the Thompson Robinson begins scrambling right, throws incomplete at midfield,
- 6:43Speaker 2: and that is coffin nails.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Bam bam bam.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Burrow in the gun. It's a long count for Joe
- 6:53Speaker 2: got it. Got the Browns to go off side. This
- 6:56Speaker 2: is a free play. Throws a deep ball for Chase
- 6:59Speaker 2: in the end zone. Jamar's dot it touchdown penalty. Bengals
- 7:05Speaker 2: aw that tullet offside.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Call it.
- 7:08Speaker 6: The Flagger's thrown.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Jamar Chase with his sixteenth touchdown catch.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Of the year. He is the NFL leader in that category.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Defensive number ninety five. That penalty has declined.
- 7:22Speaker 2: The result of the play is a touchdown and Jamar
- 7:26Speaker 2: is now just one touchdown catch away from tying Carl
- 7:31Speaker 2: Pickens single season Bengals record of seventeen touchdown grab man.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I'll tell you you got Cameron Mitchell is just cooked,
- 7:41Speaker 4: and Joe Burrow says, I'm just going to get that
- 7:44Speaker 4: out there.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Let Jamar Chase.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Do his thing, and he got Miles Garrett.
- 7:47Speaker 1: To jump Browning in the game.
- 7:49Speaker 2: He'll take the direct snap and take a knee to
- 7:52Speaker 2: run out the final twenty two seconds. Jake puts his
- 7:55Speaker 2: left knee on the field turf and the celebration begins.
- 8:00Speaker 2: The Bengals have won three straight, they have pulled within
- 8:04Speaker 2: a game of five hundred, and most importantly, they have
- 8:08Speaker 2: set up a game next Saturday here at pay Corpse
- 8:11Speaker 2: Stadium with gigantic stakes and huge playoff implications, as the
- 8:19Speaker 2: Bengals will host the Denver Broncos, the team they are
- 8:23Speaker 2: chasing for the final playoff spot in the AFC. So
- 8:28Speaker 2: after being zero to three and four and eight, the
- 8:31Speaker 2: Bengals are seven and eight with two games left and
- 8:34Speaker 2: still have a shot at making it to the playoffs.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Here are Zach Taylor, Joe Burrow, and Jamar Chase.
- 8:42Speaker 7: This is what it's supposed to feel like for us,
- 8:44Speaker 7: you know, this is our expectation, and we just put
- 8:47Speaker 7: ourselves in a position to now play some really meaningful games.
- 8:50Speaker 7: And in this we didn't want to talk about what
- 8:52Speaker 7: was coming up. We wanted to get through. I know
- 8:55Speaker 7: how much I respect that that team we played today
- 8:57Speaker 7: and what they can do to you, and you had
- 8:59Speaker 7: a play the right way, and I thought our guys did.
- 9:01Speaker 7: I thought they felt great about the prep all week,
- 9:04Speaker 7: felt great about guys being locked in and focused during
- 9:06Speaker 7: the game, found a way to get the win, and
- 9:08Speaker 7: now we can turn our focus to a short week
- 9:10Speaker 7: in the Denver Broncost.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels good to playing big games. That's why
- 9:15Speaker 3: we do what we do.
- 9:16Speaker 6: That's why we work so hard.
- 9:19Speaker 3: You know, everything that I do in the off season
- 9:21Speaker 3: is to put myself in the best position to play
- 9:24Speaker 3: great at the end of the year in these big
- 9:27Speaker 3: games coming up. So that's it's exciting to be still
- 9:32Speaker 3: be in it. Guys work really hard, coaches work really hard,
- 9:34Speaker 3: so it's nice to rattle off a couple wins here.
- 9:37Speaker 8: I feel like we already the most dangerous team, you
- 9:38Speaker 8: know what I'm saying, And people fear us, you know
- 9:41Speaker 8: what I'm saying. But it's gonna come down to just
- 9:44Speaker 8: making it, making that one play on offense and defense
- 9:46Speaker 8: and just finishing at the end of the game. So
- 9:49Speaker 8: as long as who staying in it as a unit,
- 9:50Speaker 8: you know, we'll be.
- 9:51Speaker 2: All right more on the updated playoff picture. In just
- 9:54Speaker 2: to bet, first, some offensive numbers, Joe Burrow through for
- 9:58Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty two yards with three touchdowns, no picks,
- 10:02Speaker 2: and a passer rating of one thirty four point three,
- 10:05Speaker 2: his second best of the year. Burrow leads the NFL
- 10:09Speaker 2: in passing yards with one hundred thirty four more than
- 10:12Speaker 2: Jared Goff. He leads in touchdown passes with thirty nine.
- 10:16Speaker 2: That's two more than Lamar Jackson, and Joe has now
- 10:19Speaker 2: thrown at least three touchdown passes in seven consecutive games
- 10:24Speaker 2: since the NFL AFL merger in nineteen seventy. The only
- 10:28Speaker 2: quarterbacks with streaks that long are Tom Brady with ten,
- 10:32Speaker 2: Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning with eight, and Dan Marino
- 10:36Speaker 2: like Burrow, with seven. Jamar Chase had six catches for
- 10:40Speaker 2: ninety seven yards in a touchdown and continues to lead
- 10:43Speaker 2: in the Triple Crown receiving categories. He has one hundred
- 10:46Speaker 2: eight catches to lead Amen Ross, Saint Brown and Brock
- 10:50Speaker 2: Bauers by seven. A Bengals single season record of one
- 10:53Speaker 2: thy five hundred ten yards that's one hundred twenty three
- 10:57Speaker 2: more than Justin Jefferson and his sixty touchdown catches are
- 11:01Speaker 2: four more than the next best guy, Terry McLaurin. Then
- 11:06Speaker 2: there's Chase Brown, who had one hundred and nine combined
- 11:10Speaker 2: rushing and receiving yards to top the century mark for
- 11:13Speaker 2: the fifth straight game. He spoke to Dave Lapham in
- 11:16Speaker 2: the locker.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Room, Chase Brown getting it done again. Eighteen carries, ninety
- 11:23Speaker 4: one yards. I think it was eighteen more receiving on
- 11:28Speaker 4: a few catch one hundred and ten yard scrimmage yards.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I mean, you're automatic, man, I mean just check the
- 11:33Speaker 4: box on hundred scrimmag yards plus every game.
- 11:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm just doing my job right now. Offenses executing
- 11:40Speaker 9: and that's all you can ask for is so focus
- 11:43Speaker 9: on the Broncos right now. It's really one game season
- 11:48Speaker 9: right now. So everything kind of rests on this short
- 11:50Speaker 9: week that we have coming up.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So a lot of work, a lot of focus, a
- 11:54Speaker 2: lot of.
- 11:54Speaker 9: Getting our bodies back and you know, going out there
- 11:57Speaker 9: on Saturday and being the best team.
- 12:00Speaker 4: The last time the Bengals swept the Cleveland Browns was
- 12:03Speaker 4: twenty seventeen. Nothing to take lightly to sweep the Cleveland
- 12:07Speaker 4: Browns in the Battle of Ohio.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Right, No, nothing like it.
- 12:10Speaker 9: I mean we're a great team, so we're just gonna
- 12:12Speaker 9: keep on going.
- 12:13Speaker 4: So what do you think, I mean, what was your
- 12:16Speaker 4: plan of attack? Unusual in a football game for both
- 12:20Speaker 4: teams to have a turnover inside the one yard line.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I mean, you don't see that in the low low
- 12:24Speaker 4: red zone very often.
- 12:25Speaker 9: Do you really don't, You really don't. I Mean that's
- 12:27Speaker 9: defense right there. You know, when the offense had them
- 12:31Speaker 9: on their heels a little bit, they responded. So that's
- 12:33Speaker 9: all you can ask for.
- 12:34Speaker 4: So when you were running the football today, what was
- 12:37Speaker 4: the best thing that you had going for you? I
- 12:39Speaker 4: mean you were hit you always hit it between the
- 12:41Speaker 4: tackles so well, but you were doing some stuff in
- 12:43Speaker 4: the perimeter as well.
- 12:45Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean we were getting up to the second
- 12:47Speaker 9: level really quick and get some movement. So that's all
- 12:50Speaker 9: I can ask for the old line and you know,
- 12:52Speaker 9: I can do the restaurant there. So we had that
- 12:54Speaker 9: ruling for us and some explosive plays. So we'll watch
- 12:58Speaker 9: the tape get better and hopefully bring that.
- 13:01Speaker 1: In next week.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Seven straight games, Joe Burrow has three touchdown passes. I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 4: you're talking about guys like Tom Brady who did it
- 13:08Speaker 4: in ten games. Peyton Manning, who did it in eight
- 13:10Speaker 4: straight games. I mean, he's in some high content right there.
- 13:13Speaker 4: I think he's one of five quarterbacks to ever do that.
- 13:16Speaker 9: He's a really good quarterback, so he deserves all that, man, I.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Mean, he should be up there with those guys.
- 13:22Speaker 9: And when you hear Joe Burrow and Tom Brady, it's
- 13:25Speaker 9: I'm not surprised.
- 13:26Speaker 4: So your defense to hold the Cleveland Browns to six points,
- 13:30Speaker 4: how big?
- 13:30Speaker 5: Was that huge?
- 13:31Speaker 9: I mean, especially when they're getting though chances to get
- 13:34Speaker 9: back on the field like that. That's all we need,
- 13:35Speaker 9: especially with all explosive our offenses. We just need opportunities
- 13:39Speaker 9: and drives. Until we get those drives started, we're a
- 13:41Speaker 9: hard team to beat.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Great effort once again today. Appreciate your what you did
- 13:46Speaker 4: out in the football field. Appreciate you allowing us to
- 13:48Speaker 4: catch up with you.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Brown now has nine hundred twenty three rushing yards with
- 13:55Speaker 2: two games to go. Defensively, the Bengals held the Browns
- 13:59Speaker 2: to six points and two hundred and seventy three yards,
- 14:03Speaker 2: the fewest points the Bengals have allowed and the second
- 14:06Speaker 2: fewest yards. They had five sacks, ten quarterback hits, forced
- 14:11Speaker 2: two fumbles and came away with two interceptions, including Geno
- 14:16Speaker 2: Stones fourth.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Of the year.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I caught up with him after the game. Gino, that's
- 14:22Speaker 2: three straight games with an interception. Got an assist on
- 14:25Speaker 2: this one from dj Ivy described the play.
- 14:28Speaker 6: No, it was kind of just cover one.
- 14:30Speaker 10: Me playing a post and scrambled with guy you know,
- 14:33Speaker 10: dtar stars scramble around, joking, went upfield and DJ Meta
- 14:36Speaker 10: great playing, took the ball and I got it.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Described the job you guys did against Dorian Thompson Robinson
- 14:41Speaker 2: basically taking away anything downfield.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Now, I thought we did a great job.
- 14:45Speaker 10: Russian covers working together, he said ear in the weekday
- 14:47Speaker 10: even try to use his legs. I felt like the
- 14:48Speaker 10: front did a really good job of containing him most
- 14:50Speaker 10: as they can, and us in the back end is
- 14:52Speaker 10: you know, plastard and you know, had great covers in
- 14:54Speaker 10: the back in much we can and beside the first play,
- 14:56Speaker 10: that first play the game I played, we did a
- 14:58Speaker 10: pretty good job.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Though. How big was von els play to snuff their
- 15:01Speaker 2: opening drive?
- 15:02Speaker 10: Now, it's huge, it's huge, you know, I feel like
- 15:04Speaker 10: we got altimate mentum back after that they kind of
- 15:06Speaker 10: had met him going at first, and then we kind
- 15:08Speaker 10: of took away from there.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Everybody played by one.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Three straight games with a pick. Second time in your
- 15:13Speaker 2: career you've done that. How do you feel about your
- 15:16Speaker 2: comfort level in this defense right now?
- 15:18Speaker 10: No, I feel comfortable as all. Honestly, I feel great.
- 15:21Speaker 10: You know, I'm happy we're winning, so it's always a
- 15:23Speaker 10: great thing.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You've set up a game with huge stakes next week
- 15:26Speaker 2: against Denver.
- 15:28Speaker 10: Yeah, no, you know, if you can handle it next week.
- 15:31Speaker 10: You know they got a really good team coming in,
- 15:33Speaker 10: so you know, he's gotta have short weeks, so he's
- 15:34Speaker 10: got Our body's ready to get ready to go next week.
- 15:37Speaker 1: You had the pick.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Uh, there was another pick by Jordan Battle in the
- 15:40Speaker 2: end zone. Six takeaways last week. This defense is making
- 15:45Speaker 2: the type of plays that swing games.
- 15:46Speaker 10: Yeah, I feel like we're doing at the right time.
- 15:48Speaker 10: You know, it's great to play a meaningful game next
- 15:50Speaker 10: week in December, something we've been asking for. So you know,
- 15:54Speaker 10: at the end of the day, we got we gotta
- 15:55Speaker 10: do our job and then let the rest hand.
- 15:57Speaker 6: It was open and.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Let's not forget about special teams. Ryan Rico averaged more
- 16:02Speaker 2: than fifty one yards of punt and cade York joined
- 16:06Speaker 2: Money Mack in the Bengals record book. Here's my conversation
- 16:09Speaker 2: with the Bengals kicker the title franchise record Kate a
- 16:13Speaker 2: fifty nine yard field goal just before the half. Did
- 16:16Speaker 2: you know that Evin McPherson's record was fifty nine.
- 16:20Speaker 11: No, I had no clue, and I'm almost kind of
- 16:22Speaker 11: happy I didn't take that from him. That would stake
- 16:24Speaker 11: for just being there for a few weeks.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah, So the circumstances were interesting.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Had the Browns called a time out with about forty
- 16:31Speaker 2: eight seconds to go, I think the Bengals probably would
- 16:35Speaker 2: have punted, but they let it run down, right.
- 16:37Speaker 11: Yeah, I would assume so. And it was cold out
- 16:40Speaker 11: so and none of us hit from that deep. I
- 16:43Speaker 11: think the first I hit that way was fifty seven
- 16:45Speaker 11: warming up, and it barely went in because it was
- 16:47Speaker 11: just cold and the ball wasn't flying too well. So
- 16:51Speaker 11: I just think they assume no one was gonna kick it,
- 16:53Speaker 11: but with only five seconds left, might as well take
- 16:55Speaker 11: a shot out of it.
- 16:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 16:57Speaker 2: My analyst Dave Lapham said, a fifty nine yard or
- 17:00Speaker 2: under these conditions, it's like a sixty five yarder because
- 17:03Speaker 2: the ball just doesn't carry like it would on a
- 17:05Speaker 2: nice norm day.
- 17:06Speaker 11: No, definitely, not especially like one Like k balls are
- 17:10Speaker 11: brand new that day, so all you get is to
- 17:13Speaker 11: scrape them and rub them down for forty five minutes.
- 17:15Speaker 1: For the game.
- 17:17Speaker 11: So yeah, it's a lot of things combined into making it.
- 17:20Speaker 11: That's why you see some guys can hit eighty yarders
- 17:23Speaker 11: at practice because they're kicking a ball that's two years
- 17:25Speaker 11: old and not brand new. So there's a lot of things.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I went to it.
- 17:29Speaker 11: I did hit it really really well. Once I hated,
- 17:32Speaker 11: I turned back and like celebrated it, and I was.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Like, wait a second.
- 17:35Speaker 6: The ball is like halfway there, and.
- 17:37Speaker 11: I'm like, oh, it's I forgot how cold it was.
- 17:39Speaker 11: That ball doesn't look like it's flying as far.
- 17:41Speaker 1: As it should.
- 17:42Speaker 11: But luckily I don't know how much it had, but
- 17:44Speaker 11: at least a yard or two.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So it worked out.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Nobody wants the video of the premature celebration on a
- 17:49Speaker 2: field and then.
- 17:50Speaker 11: Like, oh, it's just like donks right back at you. Yeah, no,
- 17:53Speaker 11: it worked out.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Though we're visiting with Kid York.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Any extra feeling from doing it against your former.
- 17:59Speaker 11: Team, The only extra feeling I wouldn't say coming into
- 18:02Speaker 11: the game, there was that much, but they were yelling
- 18:04Speaker 11: at me a lot very field goal, so I definitely
- 18:07Speaker 11: like that felt nice. I think it was my mood.
- 18:10Speaker 11: Diabaate was telling me I didn't have the leg for
- 18:12Speaker 11: it right before, like yelling.
- 18:13Speaker 10: It at me.
- 18:14Speaker 1: So did you yell back?
- 18:16Speaker 2: No.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I just hope you hear this though we cannot email
- 18:20Speaker 1: it to him.
- 18:21Speaker 2: How has this stint been for you, this opportunity with
- 18:25Speaker 2: the Bengals to show what you can do to the
- 18:27Speaker 2: entire NFL.
- 18:28Speaker 11: It's been great. I love my time here. The guys
- 18:30Speaker 11: are great. I love to spend time with Evan, I
- 18:32Speaker 11: Leve's spend sound Ryan and cow and Darren obviously has
- 18:35Speaker 11: such a great history of just being here for so
- 18:38Speaker 11: long and there's a reason for that. And I love
- 18:40Speaker 11: guys that know what they're talking about, and he definitely
- 18:42Speaker 11: knows what he's talking about. So I'm just trying to
- 18:43Speaker 11: soak up as much knowledge as possible and just put
- 18:46Speaker 11: a few balls to the upreights.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Your name's in the Bengals record book. Congrats.
- 18:49Speaker 6: I love that.
- 18:50Speaker 1: That's Kate York.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So the Bengals did what they needed to do, but
- 18:55Speaker 2: they did not get any help in the playoff chase
- 18:58Speaker 2: as Indianapolis beat Tennessee and Miami beat San Francisco. So
- 19:03Speaker 2: here's what needs to happen for the Bengals to make
- 19:05Speaker 2: the playoffs. They need to win their last two games
- 19:09Speaker 2: against Denver and Pittsburgh.
- 19:11Speaker 1: They need the.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Broncos to lose their last two games at Cincinnati and
- 19:15Speaker 2: at home against Kansas City. Plus Miami has to lose
- 19:20Speaker 2: at least once with road games at Cleveland and at
- 19:23Speaker 2: the Jets. Here's hoping for frigid weather in the Northeast,
- 19:27Speaker 2: and the Colts also have to lose at least one
- 19:30Speaker 2: either at the Giants or at home against Jacksonville. Now
- 19:35Speaker 2: let's hear what Zach Taylor had to say as he
- 19:37Speaker 2: spent a few minutes with Lap after the game.
- 19:41Speaker 4: So here we are with Bengals head coach Zach Taylor.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Heck of a football game today. I mean all phases.
- 19:47Speaker 4: What about your defense holding them to six points?
- 19:50Speaker 7: I was standing, you know, our defense, Roy gave us
- 19:51Speaker 7: a chance to play the game. We wanted to play
- 19:53Speaker 7: on offense where they didn't have many advantages to be
- 19:56Speaker 7: able to pin their ears back outside of a couple.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Of drives, and so just just roy out of the way.
- 20:00Speaker 5: Those guys created turnovers.
- 20:01Speaker 7: Got red zone stops, and give us a chance to
- 20:04Speaker 7: play it the way you wanted to play it.
- 20:05Speaker 4: I don't think I can remember a game where both
- 20:08Speaker 4: teams had a red zone turnover inside the one yard line.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I mean both both teams had that happen to them.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I mean, that's a that's a crazy thing. I guess
- 20:16Speaker 4: if you, like we always talk about, you watch enough football,
- 20:19Speaker 4: you're going to see everything.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I guess.
- 20:20Speaker 7: I guess, so you know, and it's, uh, that's fifty
- 20:23Speaker 7: percent happy with those outcomes. But obviously we're gonna do
- 20:26Speaker 7: a great job protecting the ball when we're down there.
- 20:28Speaker 7: I thought Von died an excellent job coming out the
- 20:30Speaker 7: punching it out and recovering it for us. That was
- 20:32Speaker 7: a huge moe minium change early in the game and
- 20:34Speaker 7: a lot of us to gain control from the onset.
- 20:37Speaker 4: And did you ever you go ninety nine yards and
- 20:40Speaker 4: put a touchdown on the board. I mean, you talk
- 20:42Speaker 4: about compmentary football. The defense, you know, backs against the wall,
- 20:46Speaker 4: you can't get much further against the wall, and they
- 20:48Speaker 4: make a play and then you guys reward them with.
- 20:50Speaker 6: A ninety nine yard touchdown drive.
- 20:51Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 20:52Speaker 7: It's complimentary football. You know, you just took it to
- 20:55Speaker 7: breath after the first play of the game. Defense bowed up,
- 20:57Speaker 7: got us the ball back, and then offense goes now.
- 21:00Speaker 5: And so that what a great way to start, put.
- 21:03Speaker 7: Them in a hole and kind of take some of
- 21:04Speaker 7: the life out of them and able to build a
- 21:06Speaker 7: seventeen nothing lead in the first half.
- 21:08Speaker 4: You know, you made mention of they had the one
- 21:10Speaker 4: sixty six yard run, but the rest they had nineteen
- 21:14Speaker 4: plays in the first half eighty six net yards. They
- 21:17Speaker 4: had the sixty six yard run, then the other eighteen
- 21:20Speaker 4: plays they accumulate twenty yards. He had four tackles for
- 21:25Speaker 4: loss four on the last four possessions, two sacks to
- 21:29Speaker 4: two tackles for loss, I mean twenty yards on eighteen snaps.
- 21:33Speaker 4: I mean they were I think three maybe four at
- 21:36Speaker 4: least three consecutives three and outs and putting the football
- 21:38Speaker 4: back to you.
- 21:39Speaker 7: So outs standing, they had control of the game, put
- 21:41Speaker 7: pressure on the quarterback, a young quarterback, so he could
- 21:43Speaker 7: never feel comfortable, and then they could establish the run.
- 21:47Speaker 7: So I think, you know, as of those the plays
- 21:49Speaker 7: you mentioned, so really proud of the effort, the communication,
- 21:53Speaker 7: the job that they did on defense.
- 21:54Speaker 4: So Joe Burrow three touchdown passes in his seventh straight game.
- 21:58Speaker 4: You know, he's in company who got like Tom Brady,
- 22:00Speaker 4: Peyton Manning. I mean it's a Hall of fame. Tom
- 22:04Speaker 4: Brady did in ten straight games. I think Peyton Manning
- 22:06Speaker 4: did it in eight. And in Joe's right there. He's
- 22:09Speaker 4: on the list. I think he's one of five. Not
- 22:11Speaker 4: only does he play really well, it's every week. I mean,
- 22:16Speaker 4: his consistency is crazy, isn't it it is?
- 22:18Speaker 5: You know he's Yeah, every week he showed up.
- 22:22Speaker 7: He's been consistent and that's that's every game I think
- 22:25Speaker 7: he's ever been here. So really proud of him, really
- 22:28Speaker 7: proud of the guys around him. And he's made some
- 22:30Speaker 7: spectacular plays that you can't really describe.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Rico average fifty one yards of punt and he had
- 22:36Speaker 4: that one that flipped the field for you at a
- 22:38Speaker 4: very opportune time. So you mentioned conpanary football, offense, defense
- 22:42Speaker 4: and special teams did a job for you tonight.
- 22:44Speaker 7: Didn't thought the coverage units were great, you know, the
- 22:46Speaker 7: gunners getting down there and making them uncomfortable and reco
- 22:49Speaker 7: doing an excellent job of flipping the field for us
- 22:51Speaker 7: in some key moments.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Jumee Schwartz gets a lot of talk about what he
- 22:55Speaker 4: does as a defensive quarter. You've got one as well
- 22:57Speaker 4: in LEU inner room. And I thought on first and
- 22:59Speaker 4: second down he was he was bringing all kinds of stuff.
- 23:02Speaker 4: And I mean it was third and thirteen, third and eleven,
- 23:05Speaker 4: third and sixteen, and then on third down, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 4: he plays some coverage and say, all right, you know,
- 23:09Speaker 4: go ahead, try to try to We're not gonna let
- 23:11Speaker 4: you convert. We're gonna keep everything in front of us.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I thought his game plan was outstanding. I thought his
- 23:15Speaker 4: players really executed it.
- 23:17Speaker 7: Yeah, great plan, guys believed in It really fun to watch,
- 23:20Speaker 7: you know, especially when you get some stops like they did,
- 23:23Speaker 7: then your confidence sky rockets and you're able to take
- 23:26Speaker 7: it to another level.
- 23:26Speaker 5: I thought I saw that today.
- 23:28Speaker 4: So Jamar Chase continues to rewrite the record book. I mean,
- 23:31Speaker 4: he has almost one hundred yards receiving, he has another
- 23:33Speaker 4: touchdown catch. He's got sixteen to those, one away from
- 23:36Speaker 4: the club record that I thought nobody had ever touched. Honestly,
- 23:39Speaker 4: Carl Pickens with was seventeen of them. But Chase Brown
- 23:43Speaker 4: as well, continues to I mean, he gives you another
- 23:45Speaker 4: one hundred and ten scrimmage yards, and it seems like
- 23:47Speaker 4: every week you can put him in the book for
- 23:49Speaker 4: over one hundred scrimmag yards.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 7: No, and he's so close to breaking a big one,
- 23:52Speaker 7: you know, And that's just that's part of his game
- 23:55Speaker 7: right now. And so he's he'e somebody we can lean
- 23:57Speaker 7: on and get the ball to a lot of different ways.
- 24:00Speaker 7: He's explosive and again he's due for a really big
- 24:04Speaker 7: one as well.
- 24:05Speaker 4: So coach, finally, I know you haven't studied the Denver Broncos,
- 24:09Speaker 4: but what's your what'd you tell the team about here
- 24:13Speaker 4: comes Denver?
- 24:13Speaker 1: As it too early to even go there.
- 24:15Speaker 5: No, I mean, now we know how important this game is.
- 24:17Speaker 7: We gave ourselves a chance to play for something that's meaningful,
- 24:20Speaker 7: you know, and we know what goes into this game.
- 24:22Speaker 7: We got to win to stay alive and take this
- 24:24Speaker 7: thing into the last week of the season with a chance.
- 24:26Speaker 7: And so you get a chance just to focus on
- 24:28Speaker 7: this team. We don't care about what happens in any
- 24:30Speaker 7: of other games. We care about what happens in the
- 24:32Speaker 7: Denver game. We got six days to get it right.
- 24:34Speaker 7: It'll be a little funky schedule with Christmas, but our
- 24:36Speaker 7: guys are committed to getting this done the right way.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Congratulations coach, appreciate your time.
- 24:40Speaker 5: Thanks Sae.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Up next a four to thirty home game next Saturday
- 24:45Speaker 2: against the nine and six Denver Broncos. If the Bengals win,
- 24:49Speaker 2: the final week of the season is going to be
- 24:52Speaker 2: very exciting. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought to you

- 25:10Speaker 2: Kettering Health is the official healthcare provider.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Of the Bengals.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Now time for the radio guys recap, well lapped. The
- 25:19Speaker 2: next to last game of the regular season just got
- 25:22Speaker 2: a lot bigger. They're going to be major playoff implications
- 25:25Speaker 2: next week thanks to a they had to have it
- 25:28Speaker 2: victory today over the Cleveland Browns.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no question. I mean, you gotta win them
- 25:33Speaker 4: one at a time. When they put themselves in the
- 25:35Speaker 4: positions they put themselves in, you know, you just are
- 25:38Speaker 4: so frustrated when you think back to the way the
- 25:41Speaker 4: opener went with the with the Norton Patriots, and to
- 25:45Speaker 4: go one and four and being close games that they've
- 25:48Speaker 4: been in, I mean, and the whole thing. It's like,
- 25:50Speaker 4: you reflect back, it's a play here and play here there.
- 25:52Speaker 4: But I mean, defensively, I thought it was the best
- 25:55Speaker 4: game of the year by far. Two hundred and seventy
- 25:58Speaker 4: three yards offensively, holding to four point three yards per play,
- 26:02Speaker 4: Cleveland held the Bengals offense to four point two yards
- 26:04Speaker 4: per play up in Cleveland Bengals reverse, it held them
- 26:08Speaker 4: to four point three yards per snap. I mean, that's
- 26:12Speaker 4: that's pretty pretty good. And they obviously suffocated the passing attack.
- 26:16Speaker 4: I mean, it was it was it was tough duty
- 26:19Speaker 4: out there. Won the turnover battle handily, as they only
- 26:24Speaker 4: had one turnover in eight quarters against Cleveland, and they
- 26:28Speaker 4: won that part of it. And that's Cleveland's biggest problem.
- 26:30Speaker 4: They come into the game minus sixteen third down. You know,
- 26:34Speaker 4: they came in at twenty eight percent, the Bengals holding
- 26:36Speaker 4: the twenty five percent, So you add fourth down into
- 26:39Speaker 4: it where they go one for three. They were four
- 26:41Speaker 4: fifteen on third and fourth down. That's that's pretty good.
- 26:45Speaker 4: And the reason is early on they got them in
- 26:48Speaker 4: third and eleven, third and fourteen, third and sixteen, third
- 26:51Speaker 4: and sixteen again, I mean lou Anon Rumo's game plan
- 26:54Speaker 4: on first and second down, pressure packages, get them off schedule,
- 26:58Speaker 4: tackle for lost sack or whatever, and then third down
- 27:01Speaker 4: play more coverage, you know, rush rush four, drop seven
- 27:04Speaker 4: into coverage, rush three, drop eight into coverage. I thought
- 27:07Speaker 4: it was, you know, a really really sound game plan
- 27:09Speaker 4: against an inexperienced quarterback, and the players executed it really well.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Let's go back to the big play that Von Bell
- 27:15Speaker 2: made on the opening drive. Vaughn has lost his starting
- 27:19Speaker 2: job to Jordan Battle. He's a proud VET who's had
- 27:22Speaker 2: a great career, a huge reason why the Bengals went
- 27:25Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl in twenty twenty one. He makes
- 27:28Speaker 2: that play, he's out there on special teams. I've got
- 27:31Speaker 2: a lot of admiration for what he's doing right now.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think the respect that his teammates
- 27:37Speaker 4: have for him has increased. And that's a huge play
- 27:42Speaker 4: that he made. And how about the offense. Okay, we'll
- 27:44Speaker 4: play companenty football. Let's go ninety nine for a touchdown.
- 27:47Speaker 4: You don't see that happened very often. And then later
- 27:50Speaker 4: in the game, the Bengals offense turns it over inside
- 27:52Speaker 4: the one yard line. I can't remember the last time
- 27:54Speaker 4: at any level of football I saw both offenses turn
- 27:57Speaker 4: it over in the lowest of low red zones. I mean,
- 28:02Speaker 4: there were a lot of crazy things that happened in
- 28:04Speaker 4: this football game, and that was one of my von
- 28:07Speaker 4: Bell made a huge play to get things, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 4: turned around again because I mean Ford bust Dets sixty
- 28:14Speaker 4: six yard run. Thought, oh boy, you know they get
- 28:17Speaker 4: on the board first. You know, could give him a
- 28:19Speaker 4: real boost in the arm and all that sort of thing.
- 28:21Speaker 4: But that was massive. To have the takeaway and then
- 28:24Speaker 4: go the length of the football field virtually, you can't
- 28:26Speaker 4: go any longer than they went. To take a seven
- 28:29Speaker 4: to nothing lead and score first, I thought was big.
- 28:32Speaker 2: And that first touchdown comes on a face plant touchdown
- 28:36Speaker 2: pass from Burrow to Higgins. We've reached the point now
- 28:39Speaker 2: where Joe is actually entertaining himself. I mean the jump
- 28:43Speaker 2: pass touchdown against the Steelers. Now this one, he's falling
- 28:46Speaker 2: flat in his face and he somehow manages to fling
- 28:49Speaker 2: it into the end zone to t Higgins. Patrick Mahomes
- 28:53Speaker 2: has you know, earned a lot of plaudits for some
- 28:56Speaker 2: of the crazy things he's done. In addition to the
- 28:59Speaker 2: great normal play Joe has made this year. Now he's
- 29:02Speaker 2: adding these crazy ones.
- 29:03Speaker 4: And you know he is any kind of quarterback guru
- 29:07Speaker 4: that is coaching young quarterbacks. Talk about platform you know,
- 29:12Speaker 4: the right foot and has to have a foundation with
- 29:14Speaker 4: that right foot, transfer your weight to your left foot,
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know, throw, take the stride, throw the football. You know,
- 29:19Speaker 4: it has to be proper mechanics. I mean Joe is platformless,
- 29:23Speaker 4: you know. I mean he can throw off his front foot,
- 29:25Speaker 4: throw off his back foot, throw off no feet. You know,
- 29:27Speaker 4: he leaves his feet, jump passes, or leaves his feet
- 29:31Speaker 4: because he tripped on a teammate and is going to
- 29:33Speaker 4: the ground. But the thing about him is like he
- 29:35Speaker 4: saw saw an opportunity before he actually tripped on Ted's
- 29:40Speaker 4: foot and then kept his head up you know enough
- 29:43Speaker 4: where he delivered an accurate football. So I think that's
- 29:47Speaker 4: the biggest thing with him is his overall awareness of
- 29:52Speaker 4: the game. I mean, every single thing about the game
- 29:56Speaker 4: of football. Joe Burrow has basically achieved at.
- 30:02Speaker 6: A high level.
- 30:03Speaker 4: He understands what he has to do, his protocols to
- 30:06Speaker 4: get there. He just understands every single nuance, every single
- 30:10Speaker 4: thing that you need to understand to be an unbelievable quarterback.
- 30:14Speaker 6: He has it all.
- 30:15Speaker 2: You've had a great comment during the broadcast. I thought
- 30:18Speaker 2: about how good he's become when he's running straight ahead,
- 30:22Speaker 2: often at high speed, and delivering throws in perfect locations
- 30:28Speaker 2: under those circumstances. I'm going to used to seeing guys
- 30:31Speaker 2: go left and right making throws on the run, but
- 30:33Speaker 2: he's now mastered that. Sprinting forward and delivering bebies and accurately.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I mean, that's the thing. A lot of guys they'll
- 30:41Speaker 4: go on the ground, or they'll sail or whatever. I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 4: you know, he has that part of the down. He
- 30:46Speaker 4: is so he has such great body control. He is
- 30:50Speaker 4: and knows exactly where every body part is. And it's
- 30:54Speaker 4: how it relates to what he wants to get done.
- 30:56Speaker 4: I mean, he is. It's unbelievable how he releases the
- 31:01Speaker 4: football from the same place, you know, different platforms, different uh.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I mean, he just creates ways to get rid of
- 31:10Speaker 4: the football, but he always gets rid of the football
- 31:13Speaker 4: at a perfect spot. I mean his release is the same,
- 31:17Speaker 4: he'll change the same. He'll he'll released out of his
- 31:20Speaker 4: hand the same way. That doesn't change, but he'll he'll
- 31:23Speaker 4: change the launch point. I mean he'll change the release
- 31:26Speaker 4: angle arm angle kind of thing. And of course you
- 31:29Speaker 4: know he changes the launch point all the time. Climb
- 31:32Speaker 4: the pocket, out of pocket, climb the pocket and reverse
- 31:35Speaker 4: go back backward in the pocket, I mean, side to
- 31:37Speaker 4: side in the pocket. He is he's one of one.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, to have a guy with his movement skills.
- 31:45Speaker 4: And again, when he's moving, you know, like DTR is
- 31:48Speaker 4: moving and he will he'll looking down the field trying
- 31:51Speaker 4: to make a play. But Joe, I mean DTR is
- 31:54Speaker 4: looking where can I run next? Joe is always down
- 31:57Speaker 4: the football field. He is always seeing how things are
- 31:59Speaker 4: run full, how how his teammates are improvising. And it
- 32:04Speaker 4: is like we said before, you know, his vision is
- 32:07Speaker 4: three sixty. You know, it's his his peripheral is like it,
- 32:11Speaker 4: like he has eyes on the side in the back
- 32:12Speaker 4: of his head.
- 32:13Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be interesting to know if that's been measured,
- 32:17Speaker 2: if he has freakishly good peripheral vision. I mean, if
- 32:22Speaker 2: whatever degrees. The normal human being can see way off
- 32:26Speaker 2: to their left and way off to the right. I
- 32:28Speaker 2: wonder if he sees more degrees than the rest.
- 32:30Speaker 6: Of us, and he has.
- 32:32Speaker 4: I mean a lot of quarterbacks, the great ones, have
- 32:34Speaker 4: a clock in their head and you know they'll count
- 32:37Speaker 4: the second. Joe Burrow has a clock that goes to
- 32:39Speaker 4: the hundredth second. It's not just he's just not counting
- 32:42Speaker 4: down seconds. I mean it's like, how the hell did
- 32:45Speaker 4: you know to do that exactly? Then you know, it's like, jeez,
- 32:49Speaker 4: he's uh. He continues to amaze. I mean, every single
- 32:53Speaker 4: week he's going to do something. It's like, what, man,
- 32:57Speaker 4: I never saw that before. I can't believe he did that.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I mean he is must see viewing or listening on
- 33:05Speaker 4: a weekly basis.
- 33:07Speaker 2: So they've won three straight. The defense has played pretty
- 33:10Speaker 2: well in those games, but the starting quarterbacks in those
- 33:14Speaker 2: games have been Cooper Rush and whoever started for the
- 33:18Speaker 2: Titans last week. I'm drawing a break well Levis and
- 33:21Speaker 2: Dorian Thompson Robinson today. So how much is it The
- 33:25Speaker 2: Bengals defense is improving and the young guys are taking
- 33:28Speaker 2: positive steps forward, and how much is it all?
- 33:31Speaker 5: Right?
- 33:31Speaker 2: They've managed to cobble together three good games against quarterbacks
- 33:35Speaker 2: that weren't great.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I think we'll find out next week. I mean, Bo
- 33:38Speaker 4: Nix is a young guy in the NFL, but he's
- 33:40Speaker 4: got sixty one college starts. I mean he's not immature.
- 33:45Speaker 4: I mean he's an older guy. He's a mature guy.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I think his teammates probably feel like, shoot, he's already
- 33:51Speaker 4: a five year vet, you know, when they're thinking about
- 33:54Speaker 4: this guy. I think his coaches think the same way.
- 33:57Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think there's anything that they can't
- 34:00Speaker 4: We can't go there with him. He can't handle that.
- 34:03Speaker 4: He can't handle that mentally or physically. He's a very
- 34:07Speaker 4: a very accomplished guy. But you know, I don't think
- 34:10Speaker 4: that he can do the things for his football team
- 34:12Speaker 4: that Joe Burrow can do for the Cincinnati Bengals quite yet.
- 34:16Speaker 4: But it is going to be interesting because I think
- 34:18Speaker 4: based on today, with a young quarterback, you think that
- 34:21Speaker 4: lou Anrumo may still do some of the pressure packages
- 34:25Speaker 4: and you know, the fake pressure packages and all that
- 34:28Speaker 4: that he was doing to get in DTR's head. Can
- 34:31Speaker 4: he do it with Bo Nicks And what will vance
- 34:34Speaker 4: Joseph do and there's a guy with his doctorate in
- 34:36Speaker 4: all that stuff, and how much of that will he
- 34:39Speaker 4: do with Joe Burrow or will he feel man, you know,
- 34:43Speaker 4: if it doesn't get there, I'm totally exposed. He's going
- 34:46Speaker 4: to have too many explosives. You know, I'm going to
- 34:48Speaker 4: have to kind of, you know, modify it a little bit,
- 34:51Speaker 4: or not quite do as much of it, or you know,
- 34:54Speaker 4: whatever the case may be. It's going to be interesting
- 34:56Speaker 4: to see how these guys game plan and how during
- 34:59Speaker 4: the course of the the game, you know, the circumstances
- 35:03Speaker 4: taking place in unfolding during the course of the game
- 35:05Speaker 4: changed their approach and thought to what they're doing.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Sounded like you're optimistic that Orlando Brown Junior will be back.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I'd be shocked if he isn't, particularly now with Mims
- 35:16Speaker 4: hurting a little bit. I think, you know, knowing Orlando
- 35:18Speaker 4: Brown and how much playing means to him, I think
- 35:21Speaker 4: if if he can do it at all, he's gonna
- 35:25Speaker 4: go out there and do it. Because against this team,
- 35:29Speaker 4: number one in the league in sacks, I believe, number
- 35:31Speaker 4: one in the league in defense, uh you know, number
- 35:34Speaker 4: number one or number two points allowed. I mean this
- 35:37Speaker 4: this defensive football team is top five and top three
- 35:41Speaker 4: in a bunch of significant categories. So to have both
- 35:44Speaker 4: of your your big stud offensive tackles down. And what
- 35:48Speaker 4: about the offensive tackle position. I mean, during the course
- 35:52Speaker 4: of the year, you lose Brown, you know, first Brown,
- 35:56Speaker 4: then now Orlando is struggling, and now you know Mims
- 35:58Speaker 4: is struggling physically, man the offensive tackle position for the
- 36:03Speaker 4: Cincinnati Bengals this season has been the injury Guds just said,
- 36:06Speaker 4: did al shalt have issues at offensive tackle?
- 36:11Speaker 2: That puts a rap on the Cleveland when Now it's
- 36:13Speaker 2: time for this week's fun fact segment where you get
- 36:16Speaker 2: to know the person under the pads. Time for some
- 36:21Speaker 2: fun facts with offensive lineman Devin Cochrane. You are from
- 36:24Speaker 2: the Atlanta area. Tell me more specifically about where you
- 36:28Speaker 2: grew up and what you like about your hometown.
- 36:30Speaker 12: For sure, moved all around. Initially in Southwest Atlanta. We
- 36:34Speaker 12: end up moving to Northeast Atlanta, where I kind of
- 36:36Speaker 12: went from elementary school up to middle school. I was
- 36:40Speaker 12: in private school, so it wasn't really a district deal.
- 36:42Speaker 12: And then we ended up moving to Lilburn by Stone Mountain, Georgia.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Your mom is a college professor. Correct, Yes, where does
- 36:49Speaker 2: she teach and what does she teach?
- 36:50Speaker 12: Right now? She's been doing a lot of online classes,
- 36:52Speaker 12: but she's taught at many places Spellman, She's taught at
- 36:55Speaker 12: Georgia State Perimeter, and she's a sociology teacher.
- 36:58Speaker 6: She has our PhD in sociology.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Did you have strict rules about grades before being able
- 37:04Speaker 2: to play sports and things like that as a kid, Not.
- 37:07Speaker 12: Really before playing sports, but if my grades ever slipped,
- 37:10Speaker 12: I was definitely hearing about it, and my mom was very,
- 37:12Speaker 12: very present in the PTA or PTO, whatever it is,
- 37:16Speaker 12: going to school and making sure that was getting my
- 37:17Speaker 12: work done.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Visiting with Devin Cochran, were you involved in any activities
- 37:21Speaker 2: outside of sports?
- 37:22Speaker 6: Absolutely? Yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 12: Before I really got into sports, I played piano for
- 37:26Speaker 12: nine years. I played upright bass for four or five years,
- 37:30Speaker 12: guitar for a few years, chess, club basketball, besides football
- 37:38Speaker 12: and track and field, a little throwing.
- 37:40Speaker 2: So if you see a piano in a hotel lobby,
- 37:43Speaker 2: can you sit down and bang something out?
- 37:45Speaker 12: I really can, but it won't be good. I'd have
- 37:48Speaker 12: to practice, And to be honest with you, you know, with
- 37:50Speaker 12: the whole football thing and the hands, you know, I
- 37:52Speaker 12: mean an o linement. It's really actually restricted me from
- 37:54Speaker 12: being able to play all the instruments I like to play.
- 37:57Speaker 2: That's unfortunate. One of the unfortunate whist of the trade.
- 38:01Speaker 6: You have to make a choice. I chose. I remember
- 38:03Speaker 6: my high school.
- 38:04Speaker 12: Football coach told me in ninth or tenth grade, because
- 38:07Speaker 12: we had an orchestra field trip. He told me, you
- 38:09Speaker 12: have to make a choice. And because it was either
- 38:12Speaker 12: orchestra field trip or I think a scrimmage, and I
- 38:14Speaker 12: chose football, and that was it.
- 38:16Speaker 2: We're chatting with Devin cochrane. You're a big band six
- 38:19Speaker 2: seven three thirty a wing span of more than seven feet.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Did you always tower over the other kids?
- 38:27Speaker 3: Uh?
- 38:27Speaker 6: Yeah, mostly?
- 38:28Speaker 12: I think maybe in third grade there was a kid
- 38:30Speaker 12: who was taller than me then, but the last time
- 38:34Speaker 12: I saw him, I was I was much taller than
- 38:36Speaker 12: him and everybody else.
- 38:37Speaker 1: So you caught up and passed them.
- 38:39Speaker 2: When it came time to choose a college, you picked
- 38:42Speaker 2: Vanderbilt over some traditional football powers. Why Vandy?
- 38:47Speaker 12: I had a really good relationship with Derek Mason, And
- 38:49Speaker 12: then also we took a trip to Nashville.
- 38:51Speaker 6: It was about four We went up in a snowstorm.
- 38:53Speaker 12: Actually it was about four and a half hours away
- 38:55Speaker 12: from Atlanta, and I was content with everything.
- 38:57Speaker 6: I loved the school.
- 38:58Speaker 12: Some of the guys there took me into the Jared Southers,
- 39:01Speaker 12: Bailey Grind, a bunch of guys just I think the
- 39:04Speaker 12: culture was what really brought me to it the most.
- 39:06Speaker 12: And then some guys like the recruiting process. Others don't
- 39:10Speaker 12: the attention, and I think it was more so trying
- 39:14Speaker 12: to learn about every single school because I'm very thorough.
- 39:16Speaker 12: So you know, if I wasn't able to do that
- 39:18Speaker 12: with every school, then there's really no point in doing it.
- 39:20Speaker 2: So you did not enjoy the process.
- 39:23Speaker 12: Recruiting, No, not as much so.
- 39:26Speaker 2: One of the most memorable moments of this college football
- 39:29Speaker 2: season was Vandy beating Alabama and the fans tearing down
- 39:33Speaker 2: the goalposts and dropping it into the Cumberland River. Were
- 39:36Speaker 2: you able to watch the game?
- 39:37Speaker 12: I watched the entire game. I was screaming the entire time.
- 39:40Speaker 12: I was calling all my old teammates, and you know,
- 39:43Speaker 12: being at Georgia Tech, a newly found Georgia Tech guy,
- 39:45Speaker 12: I couldn't do anything but root.
- 39:47Speaker 6: For Vanderbilt because you always want to see those guys
- 39:48Speaker 6: go now. You know.
- 39:50Speaker 2: So you did finish your college career at Georgia Tech
- 39:52Speaker 2: after spending the first four years at Vandy. Was it
- 39:55Speaker 2: great for you to experience something else?
- 39:58Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 40:00Speaker 12: One of the biggest I think reasons for the change
- 40:02Speaker 12: was just the coach that they had there, Brent Key.
- 40:05Speaker 12: He was an offensive line coach at Alabama, coached a
- 40:08Speaker 12: lot of greats, Cam Robinson and a lot of other guys,
- 40:10Speaker 12: and that experience was I think where I was really
- 40:12Speaker 12: able to hone in my craft and realize what it
- 40:14Speaker 12: was that I didn't have. And ever since then, I've
- 40:17Speaker 12: been trying to, you know, repair all of those I
- 40:18Speaker 12: think some of the tendencies and some of the things
- 40:21Speaker 12: that I still find in myself doing that hinder my game.
- 40:25Speaker 2: So after your season at Georgia Tech, it was draft time.
- 40:28Speaker 2: The Bengals brought you here for a pre draft visit.
- 40:30Speaker 2: What do you remember about that.
- 40:33Speaker 12: I remember trying to walk to a CVS and the
- 40:35Speaker 12: CVS was closed. I think it was a Sunday, I'm kidding, man.
- 40:39Speaker 12: I remember meeting Pollack, I remember seeing Deontay Smith downstairs.
- 40:42Speaker 12: Deontay I played with an Elite Junior Classic game in
- 40:45Speaker 12: high school and that was I think he was one
- 40:47Speaker 12: of the first people I saw when I walked in.
- 40:48Speaker 12: So it was like, as soon as I come in,
- 40:50Speaker 12: familiar face right there. And then from then on it
- 40:53Speaker 12: was just you know, kind of meeting with different people.
- 40:56Speaker 12: And I mean ever since, it's just been history. You know,
- 40:58Speaker 12: I've been here now three years from then?
- 41:01Speaker 2: Why did you elect to sign with Cincinnati?
- 41:04Speaker 6: I did I sign with Cincinnati?
- 41:06Speaker 12: I mean it was quick, you know how like as
- 41:07Speaker 12: soon as the process is over, you know, you get
- 41:09Speaker 12: your phone calls, coaches call. I remember talking with Pollack,
- 41:12Speaker 12: I remember going through the schemes and everything. I've realized
- 41:15Speaker 12: that this was probably the best opportunity I had. We
- 41:17Speaker 12: my agents and I were happy with just how the
- 41:19Speaker 12: tackle room was going and everything else with the program,
- 41:21Speaker 12: and just thought that I would have a chance. And
- 41:24Speaker 12: years three years later, man, I mean I still you know,
- 41:27Speaker 12: don't don't believe it. But three years later, yeah.
- 41:31Speaker 2: So you spent your first year on the practice squad
- 41:34Speaker 2: and then last year you suffered a knee injury during
- 41:36Speaker 2: training camp and missed the season. How did it happen
- 41:39Speaker 2: and how severe was it?
- 41:41Speaker 4: Oh?
- 41:41Speaker 6: Man, it was it was a nightmare.
- 41:43Speaker 12: I was holding a bag and holding a bag standard
- 41:48Speaker 12: day stepped on somebody's foot behind me and it happened,
- 41:52Speaker 12: But it was a miniscus here and the whole I
- 41:54Speaker 12: was out for I mean it was. It was pretty grueling,
- 41:58Speaker 12: but maybe a lot stronger mentally physically. I remember during
- 42:05Speaker 12: that time I started doing some stuff with you know upstairs,
- 42:08Speaker 12: doing some extra film review breakdowns, trying to help the
- 42:11Speaker 12: guys out give different key pointers and different guys. I
- 42:14Speaker 12: think it was able to help with some of my
- 42:15Speaker 12: pass rush recognition, being able to recognize moves. And then
- 42:18Speaker 12: also I took a lot of time in the weight
- 42:21Speaker 12: room with Joey and Garrett. I think back then was
- 42:25Speaker 12: it Todd? I think Todd as well. And I think
- 42:28Speaker 12: that year last year I think was probably some of
- 42:31Speaker 12: I think the most progress I've ever seen in my game,
- 42:35Speaker 12: just because of the small things I never really had
- 42:38Speaker 12: time to do when it came to priority or really elevating.
- 42:41Speaker 2: It's interesting that you shared that because I had the
- 42:44Speaker 2: memory of you being around last year while you were rehabbing,
- 42:47Speaker 2: which is somewhat unusual. Many players will have an injury
- 42:51Speaker 2: like that and say all right, and I'm gonna go home.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I'll do my rehab there. I don't need to be around.
- 42:55Speaker 2: But you took advantage to try to continue to get
- 42:58Speaker 2: better even though you were limited.
- 43:00Speaker 12: Absolutely, I think the biggest thing that I was thinking
- 43:03Speaker 12: of is how can I contribute when I literally can't contribute?
- 43:06Speaker 12: You know, as a UDFA, I feel like the most
- 43:10Speaker 12: important thing for me to do is always look at
- 43:12Speaker 12: ways to fill deficiencies. Just because you know you're not
- 43:15Speaker 12: as a UDFA, you're not initially brought to immediately fill
- 43:19Speaker 12: a deficiency as a spot as a drafted player is. Therefore,
- 43:22Speaker 12: you have to do a little bit more attentive to
- 43:23Speaker 12: what it is that can be done around here to
- 43:25Speaker 12: help out.
- 43:26Speaker 2: We're doing fun facts with Devin Cochrane. You got your
- 43:29Speaker 2: first chance to play a big role in the Tennessee
- 43:32Speaker 2: game recently when Cody Ford got sick.
- 43:34Speaker 1: How big were the Butterflies.
- 43:37Speaker 12: I don't want to make it sound like not big
- 43:38Speaker 12: at all, but not huge. You brought up the Vanderbilt
- 43:42Speaker 12: Alabama thing, how they played and beat them. I remember
- 43:45Speaker 12: when I was I was a sophomore year, junior year
- 43:48Speaker 12: going up against those guys, you know, I remember going
- 43:50Speaker 12: up against Georgia at Vanderbilt, and I'll tell you one
- 43:52Speaker 12: thing we never really had at Vanderbilt was a home crowd.
- 43:56Speaker 12: You know, my entire career, I always experienced being what
- 43:58Speaker 12: felt like a traumatic environment. And for the first time,
- 44:03Speaker 12: you know, being around some of the elite guys on
- 44:05Speaker 12: this team and knowing that we really do have a
- 44:06Speaker 12: stinking chance. It was like, Okay, I know if I'm
- 44:08Speaker 12: able to fill in and do what it is that
- 44:10Speaker 12: I need to do.
- 44:10Speaker 6: I mean, if I.
- 44:11Speaker 12: Can give Joe three seconds, four seconds, five seconds, you know,
- 44:14Speaker 12: however long it takes, I know we have a chance.
- 44:16Speaker 12: T Jamar, you know, the other guys on the line.
- 44:18Speaker 6: The defense. I knew everybody was gonna step up.
- 44:21Speaker 12: Haven't always been on teams where I was extremely confident
- 44:24Speaker 12: that we would be able to step up. But man,
- 44:27Speaker 12: it's a great feeling when you you know, to be
- 44:29Speaker 12: a part of that first time ever.
- 44:31Speaker 2: All right, some wild card topics now with Devin Cochrane.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Who is your all time favorite athlete in any sport?
- 44:38Speaker 1: And why work done?
- 44:40Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 44:41Speaker 12: Growing up, I remember watching the Falcons and I think
- 44:44Speaker 12: he was just somebody I kind of clinged to because
- 44:46Speaker 12: I wasn't a big football player as a kid. But
- 44:49Speaker 12: my family watched a lot of ball and just that
- 44:52Speaker 12: you know, kind of mid two thousands generation Atlanta culture
- 44:56Speaker 12: that we had going on back downtown and was it
- 44:59Speaker 12: a Jermaine Duprix, you know, the just the culture of
- 45:02Speaker 12: Atlanta it was.
- 45:03Speaker 6: It was a good time to be to be around there.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I mentioned your wingspan seven feet two inches. Basically
- 45:10Speaker 2: when you stretch out your arms, it's Kareem abdul Jabbar.
- 45:13Speaker 2: How hard is it to find a shirt that fits?
- 45:16Speaker 6: Shirts are tough? Shirts are tough.
- 45:18Speaker 12: You get about a you get one or two wears
- 45:20Speaker 12: out of a shirt and you find yourself given it
- 45:21Speaker 12: to your wife. Shoes are tough. Shoes are really really
- 45:24Speaker 12: difficult with shoes. Seventeen pants are really tough length wise.
- 45:28Speaker 12: And then also, you know, I'm not like a just
- 45:30Speaker 12: like a big, kind of really fat guy. I'm kind
- 45:33Speaker 12: of proportional. So it's like it's difficult to find larger
- 45:36Speaker 12: genes that are proportionally fit to like athletically built men.
- 45:41Speaker 12: So it's it's been it's been more difficult.
- 45:44Speaker 6: But you know there's a.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Business concept there, you know, clothing for alignment.
- 45:48Speaker 12: Oh yeah, for sure, I've been my mom has giving
- 45:51Speaker 12: me the recommendation before I just I have to build
- 45:53Speaker 12: up a little capital first, you know.
- 45:55Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about your schooling. You were working
- 45:58Speaker 2: toward a master's degree at Georgia Tech. Did you finish
- 46:01Speaker 2: it and what's the subject?
- 46:02Speaker 1: Yes?
- 46:03Speaker 12: I finished it and it was program management in the
- 46:06Speaker 12: School of Building Construction. So it was ultimately construction with
- 46:11Speaker 12: a focus in management.
- 46:13Speaker 6: So the overall process.
- 46:14Speaker 12: Of being able to go from beginning to end as
- 46:17Speaker 12: far as not only the construction workers but also pre
- 46:22Speaker 12: excuse me, programming and trying to figure out timing aspects
- 46:25Speaker 12: that we're going to meet deadlines. How do we make
- 46:28Speaker 12: sure that all the processes are working together symbiotically to
- 46:31Speaker 12: make everything work.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Would you like to be involved in that someday or
- 46:35Speaker 2: do you hope to play ten plus years in the NFL,
- 46:37Speaker 2: make millions and millions and kickback.
- 46:40Speaker 12: I hope to play for fifteen years in the NFL,
- 46:42Speaker 12: make millions and kickback, and then go and be able
- 46:44Speaker 12: to have my own GC and potentially do something that
- 46:46Speaker 12: nature for sure.
- 46:48Speaker 2: All right, final fun fact for Devin Cochr. And this
- 46:50Speaker 2: one's kind of deep. If you could meet anyone in
- 46:53Speaker 2: history living or deceased. Who would that person be?
- 46:58Speaker 6: King David?
- 47:00Speaker 12: Yeah, King David, And I would just ask what was
- 47:02Speaker 12: going through his head during David versus Good Life.
- 47:06Speaker 6: That's all it is. I just want to hear what
- 47:08Speaker 6: was it?
- 47:09Speaker 12: And then I mean even so from that point on,
- 47:11Speaker 12: you know, the transformation from going from a small child
- 47:15Speaker 12: to ultimately a great king. Because you know, when I
- 47:17Speaker 12: think about football, I think about you know, this past
