- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey, good morning. Everybody may hear some wind in
- 0:31the background and it sounds just wonderful and peaceful and
- 0:35lovely. And I'm enjoying it out here
- 0:38doing my meditation and now recording a podcast with you.
- 0:42So Carl Jung, we all know Carl Jung.
- 0:46He said you are what you do, not what you say you'll do.
- 0:51And how cool is that when you think about that?
- 0:54Because you, how many of us get aggravated when we know we are
- 0:57around people who are talkers? They just talk and talk, talk,
- 1:01talk, talk and they say they're going to do a lot of things or
- 1:04they indicate that they do a lot of things.
- 1:07Even just in the conversation, you can hear them talking about
- 1:10stuff and you look and you go, this person hasn't done any of
- 1:14that or that stuff has been done in the life that they are part
- 1:19of, but it's essentially not been through them and their
- 1:24efforts. They may have had a small
- 1:26portion of it. And you sit there and you're
- 1:28like, Oh my gosh, what are they talking about?
- 1:31They do nothing. And it's a, it's a very big
- 1:34human habit. You know, I can perfectly well
- 1:38tell you that it's one of my biggest pet peeves personally,
- 1:42that the I have a little Red Hen syndrome.
- 1:45And what that basically means if you don't remember the
- 1:48children's book, The Little Red Hen, she gets very annoyed
- 1:51because everybody wants to have her at the end of the story.
- 1:55Everyone wants to come for a piece of bread that she baked.
- 1:57But nobody wanted to help her plow the fields or plant the
- 2:01fields or attend the fields or harvest the fields.
- 2:04But they all showed up with their plate for a piece of
- 2:06bread. And it's one of my favorite
- 2:08stories because throughout my life, going, you know, to
- 2:12school, going and putting it, being put in classes, I was
- 2:15often put in groups of people who would sit there and say, oh,
- 2:19I'll do it. But it's they never showed up to
- 2:22do things. And then their grade was
- 2:24predicated on my effort more than their effort.
- 2:28And I used to be get so upset about that because I did not
- 2:31want to have that. If I'm going to pour in, I'm
- 2:34going to pour in. And you know, my mother used to
- 2:37tell me, oh, well, you, you know, you have to help.
- 2:41And you know, you, you hear other human beings justifying.
- 2:45And it gets us more and more aggravated.
- 2:48And the point of this today is you are what you do, not what
- 2:54you say you'll do. And listening to Mr. or Doctor
- 2:56Young, we, we sit here and we have to remember as we take in,
- 3:03we sit here in our lives and we look around, we have to remember
- 3:06that nothing is more important than how we show up moment to
- 3:10moment. And, and really how we show up
- 3:13moment to moment. What are the actions that we're
- 3:16taking? What are the things that we're
- 3:18doing? How are we pouring into our our
- 3:21lives and what we say we'll do that inter interacts with other
- 3:26people's lives? Because there are plenty of
- 3:27people out there that we interact with.
- 3:30And if you're part of a team, if you're, if you work on a team,
- 3:34whatever you do and they count on you, there are oftentimes
- 3:39where one line gets hung up for another.
- 3:42So I, I was just talking to somebody yesterday and he
- 3:46indicated that, you know, oh, well, there's people upstream
- 3:49in, in what he does. And you know, they're, they're
- 3:53calling for things to, you know, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up,
- 3:56hurry up, hurry up. And he's like, I can't hurry up
- 4:00because the people are are not giving me what I need so that I
- 4:03can do what I need to do. And it's it's befuddling to me
- 4:08how much people don't look back at this and say very clearly,
- 4:13listen, we have to remember we are what we do, not what we will
- 4:19say we will do. So what are you doing?
- 4:22What are the things you are doing right now?
- 4:24Where in your life are you telling yourself, oh, I do this,
- 4:28but you don't actually do it? Or are you deluding yourself
- 4:31into believing that you're doing more than you think you're
- 4:35doing? Like our biggest weakness with
- 4:37this always across the board, like this is a very funny thing
- 4:41because one would think we would have a good handle on this is
- 4:44our health. We all like to believe like, oh,
- 4:46I'm healthy. But then, you know, there's
- 4:49beer, there's alcohol, there's sugar.
- 4:53There's too much of what one would say is a good thing.
- 4:58And all of a sudden you're not healthy.
- 5:01And I can't tell you how many times I have to, you know, bring
- 5:05some light to this with clients who are saying, well, I'm just
- 5:08not losing weight. And then you dig into it and you
- 5:11find out they're not losing weight because they're not
- 5:14actually doing their workouts. They skipped that part because
- 5:17they said they were going to and they made a commitment to do it.
- 5:20But they skip it. And they're like, well, life
- 5:22gets in the way. Life is always going to get in
- 5:24the way. There is never a time when life
- 5:26doesn't get in the way. I promise you, I was in.
- 5:29I took a call last night, a late call, which I never do, not for
- 5:36a client, but for one of my clients actually asked me to
- 5:40help somebody out. And I said the only time this
- 5:42person could talk was at 7. Now, my brain usually shuts off
- 5:46then, but I was like, no, I'm going to take the call.
- 5:48I want to make sure I help because this person really needs
- 5:51it. And there I go, dive into the
- 5:54call. And in the midst of the call, my
- 5:56son breaks a glass that's filled with apple juice all over the
- 6:02kitchen. And I mean, it was everywhere.
- 6:04He dropped it on the floor and it went up the counters all over
- 6:08the place. And he texted me in the middle
- 6:11of that call while I'm trying to concentrate and figure out
- 6:15what's going on with this person and tells me I need you to come
- 6:21here right now. So I come walking from my office
- 6:24in and he's standing there in bare feet, glass all around him,
- 6:28covered in apple juice up the counters, all over the
- 6:31refrigerator, everywhere. And I just stood there and I the
- 6:35first thing that came into my head was life happens and that's
- 6:40it. And so I just asked the person
- 6:42to hang on and said, OK, let me figure this out.
- 6:47Got him out of the danger and said I'm coming back to fix
- 6:50this. And when I'm done with the call
- 6:54and, and I was able to move on, this is what it's all about.
- 6:58It's not about getting angry. It's not about getting
- 7:00frustrated. What it's about is being able to
- 7:03recalibrate, recalibrate and recognize that it's what you do.
- 7:09It's not what you say you're going to do.
- 7:11And you have to remember that. And I'm constantly trying to
- 7:14say, everybody just realize what will you actually do compared to
- 7:19what do you think you will do? Because it's a major difference.
- 7:22OK, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 7:25tomorrow. Bye.
