- 0:00Speaker 1: Mr.
- 0:01Speaker 2: New York, Mark Simone, is on 710WOR.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Well, hey, the Yankees, tomorrow night, game one. Yankees-Tampa, seven-game
- 0:13Speaker 3: series begins tomorrow night, 6.30. It's going to be a
- 0:17Speaker 3: beautiful fall weekend. That's good. The merger has taken place. Paramount,
- 0:26Speaker 3: Warner Discovery, they come up with a new name, Skydance.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Nobody likes the name except these two Ellisons. They've decided
- 0:34Speaker 3: with CNN. Now, remember, this is a massive conglomerate of
- 0:38Speaker 3: huge media stuff. And CNN is really kind of a
- 0:42Speaker 3: tiny little thing. It's just about 400,000 viewers. It's a
- 0:46Speaker 3: last place, bottom of the barrel cable network. So it's
- 0:49Speaker 3: a little, little part of this company. The guy that's
- 0:52Speaker 3: been running it for years is Mark Thompson. So apparently
- 0:56Speaker 3: the CEO, David Ellison, has met with Thompson and has
- 0:59Speaker 3: said he'll keep him on. He can stay. He'll run it.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Not going to be Barry Weiss from CBS. First of all,
- 1:09Speaker 3: the problem with Barry Weiss, she hasn't really distinguished herself
- 1:11Speaker 3: at CBS. She redid the 630 News, the nightly news,
- 1:15Speaker 3: with a new anchor. Looks good, but the ratings are terrible.
- 1:22Speaker 3: CBS was always in last place on the evening news.
- 1:25Speaker 3: but they sunk even lower. The ratings are really bad.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So that's not good. Then she tried to fix up
- 1:31Speaker 3: 60 minutes and it looked like she did the right stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 3: She tried to take it back to the old 60
- 1:36Speaker 3: minutes where they do really good investigative pieces and, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: profiles of sports stars or movies. So it seemed good,
- 1:46Speaker 3: but the ratings are, they're okay. Just not a lot
- 1:50Speaker 3: of big improvements. So she hasn't really distinguished herself. So,
- 1:54Speaker 3: They're going to keep this CNN boss, CEO of CNN,
- 1:57Speaker 3: Mark Thompson, on. But if you look at the fine print,
- 2:02Speaker 3: apparently he's got a year left on his contract. So
- 2:05Speaker 3: I think they just don't want to pay off the contract.
- 2:08Speaker 3: So they're letting him work out the final year of
- 2:10Speaker 3: the contract. It just means they haven't found who they
- 2:13Speaker 3: want to run it. Or they haven't decided what to
- 2:15Speaker 3: do with CNN. You could keep it as a news network,
- 2:20Speaker 3: or you could turn it into something else. There's a
- 2:21Speaker 3: lot more money in other things. On cable, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 3: you could do a million other things with a cable network.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So I think this is just leave him there. Let
- 2:31Speaker 3: him finish out his one year left on his contract.
- 2:34Speaker 3: And then they'll figure out who they want to put
- 2:36Speaker 3: in there. It's interesting. Jimmy Kimmel has been in New
- 2:40Speaker 3: York all week, actually Brooklyn, doing a show there all week.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And he's having every left wing. You know, last night
- 2:47Speaker 3: it was John Oliver. And who's that other dopey guy?
- 2:50Speaker 3: So Seth Meyers. Between the two of them, they have
- 2:53Speaker 3: like 37 viewers. In fact, it's kind of insulting to them.
- 2:58Speaker 3: They had to have them on together. John Oliver, Seth Meyers.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Neither one of them is big enough to have on
- 3:06Speaker 3: alone as a guest. So they brought them together because
- 3:08Speaker 3: they're two very little tiny TV shows with very small audiences.
- 3:13Speaker 3: They combined them. Although Howard Stern, look at Howard Stern.
- 3:17Speaker 3: He got to come on all by himself. Not only
- 3:19Speaker 3: did they have Howard Stern alone, But they gave him
- 3:22Speaker 3: 18 minutes. That's a nice long segment. Stern and Kimmel
- 3:28Speaker 3: are very, very close friends. They go on vacations. The
- 3:33Speaker 3: wives get along. They travel together. They went to Europe together.
- 3:38Speaker 3: They go on cruises together. They do everything together. Very close.
- 3:43Speaker 3: They go to dinner together. Howard Stern goes to dinner
- 3:45Speaker 3: with very few people and very rarely. But he does
- 3:48Speaker 3: it with Kimmel and his wife. Very close. So he's
- 3:52Speaker 3: on the show and he looked into the camera and
- 3:54Speaker 3: he said, listen, ABC, nobody is a better team player.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Nobody has done more for ABC than Jimmy Kimmel. Well,
- 4:02Speaker 3: of course, that's not true. But he is a guy
- 4:07Speaker 3: who does things. And then Stern said, you know, when
- 4:10Speaker 3: they do those events, those corporate events for the sponsors,
- 4:13Speaker 3: they call them the upfronts where they invite all the advertisers.
- 4:17Speaker 3: It's like a convention for all your sponsors. And he says,
- 4:20Speaker 3: Kimmel goes to those. Kimmel shows up at those. That
- 4:24Speaker 3: is really something. First of all, everybody does. It's part
- 4:27Speaker 3: of your deal. It's part of your contract. You got
- 4:29Speaker 3: to do that stuff. Every star of every network goes
- 4:33Speaker 3: to those things they call the upfronts where you appear
- 4:36Speaker 3: on stage, you speak to all the advertisers, then they
- 4:38Speaker 3: have a cocktail party afterwards where you mingle with everybody
- 4:42Speaker 3: does that. Nothing, nothing unusual about that. Stern says, I
- 4:45Speaker 3: don't do that. Well, he doesn't have any sponsors. It's
- 4:48Speaker 3: on satellite radio. Do you ever hear the sponsors? They
- 4:50Speaker 3: got like, Two sponsors you never heard of. But, hey,
- 4:55Speaker 3: and by the way, behind the scenes, in all of
- 4:58Speaker 3: his years in radio, Howard Stern was very big with
- 5:01Speaker 3: the sponsors. He'd call them up personally. He would always
- 5:04Speaker 3: talk to them. He'd pay a lot of attention to them.
- 5:06Speaker 3: So when he says, I wouldn't do it, he's been
- 5:07Speaker 3: doing that all his life. Now, here's the interesting part. Well,
- 5:11Speaker 3: Stern went on to threaten ABC almost. And he said,
- 5:14Speaker 3: if you cancel Kimmel, if you take this show off
- 5:16Speaker 3: the air, there will be hell to pay. I don't
- 5:18Speaker 3: know what that means. Stern could mobilize his audience, which
- 5:22Speaker 3: is now about 26 people. He's only on one day
- 5:26Speaker 3: a week, like 20 weeks a year or something like that.
- 5:29Speaker 3: But it's very interesting. ABC is owned by Disney. And
- 5:34Speaker 3: the chairman of Disney gives an interview, long interview, in
- 5:39Speaker 3: a trade magazine and was asked about Kimmel and said
- 5:43Speaker 3: all kinds of great things about Kimmel. But at the
- 5:49Speaker 3: end of all of this, great things about Kimmel. She
- 5:53Speaker 3: points out that we love him, but it's not a
- 5:56Speaker 3: good business model. You remember the Colbert show was losing
- 6:00Speaker 3: $ 40 million a year. Losing $ 40 million a year. And
- 6:04Speaker 3: it was doing a lot better than Kimmel. So Kimmel's
- 6:07Speaker 3: losing a lot more money. But what they've done with Kimmel,
- 6:09Speaker 3: they've cut his budget. The most recent cut was like 25%.
- 6:12Speaker 3: They cut the budget 25%. And the problem is these
- 6:17Speaker 3: late night shows are just disasters. They're small audiences. They
- 6:20Speaker 3: don't make a lot of money. So most of them,
- 6:22Speaker 3: even the Tonight Show, they can't afford to do five
- 6:25Speaker 3: days a week. They actually only do three, four days
- 6:27Speaker 3: a week. And the rest is reruns. But this Disney
- 6:30Speaker 3: chairman in the interview said, it's a money loser. There's no,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, it doesn't work as a business model, the
- 6:41Speaker 3: Jimmy Kimmel show. You're just going to take a big
- 6:42Speaker 3: loss all the time. So the interviewer, who's trying to defend, uh,
- 6:48Speaker 3: Kimball says, well, yeah, but on YouTube, he gets like
- 6:50Speaker 3: a million views on YouTube. And the, uh, Disney chairman says,
- 6:54Speaker 3: that's great. We don't make any money off that. It
- 6:55Speaker 3: doesn't help us in any way. There's no profit in that. So, uh,
- 7:00Speaker 3: you know, and there's a, here's a great media critic
- 7:02Speaker 3: who's writing, you know, the old Howard Stern would have
- 7:04Speaker 3: understood all this. If you got a show and it's
- 7:06Speaker 3: got a tiny audience and it's losing money, it's ridiculous
- 7:10Speaker 3: to keep promoting this thing. Uh, And the critic says
- 7:17Speaker 3: Stern is now like an ultra-rich liberal supporting a fellow
- 7:20Speaker 3: ultra-rich liberal misleading the public on what the actual business
- 7:25Speaker 3: issues are and why ABC would consider dumping it. Hey, Anthropic,
- 7:30Speaker 3: that's a big AI company. They're known for Claude, their
- 7:35Speaker 3: AI product. Anthropic, a big, big AI company, talking about
- 7:39Speaker 3: an IPO. And they're looking at November 7th. They want
- 7:43Speaker 3: to wait until after the midterms. But the anthropic IPO,
- 7:47Speaker 3: who knows? That could be very big. Who knows? It
- 7:49Speaker 3: might not be very big. A lot of people leery
- 7:51Speaker 3: about AI companies that could be facing a lot of regulation.
- 7:56Speaker 3: But it's a California firm. They said they'll have to
- 7:59Speaker 3: spend $ 500 billion in the coming years on cloud computing
- 8:05Speaker 3: and infrastructure. $ 500 billion. Their revenue last year was $ 4. 6 billion.
- 8:12Speaker 3: But that's like 10 times what they made the year before.
- 8:15Speaker 3: So it is, I mean, the good news, it is
- 8:18Speaker 3: on the upswing. Hey, crazy little Mom Donnie, our goofy mayor. Now,
- 8:23Speaker 3: the good news is, and we've been telling you this
- 8:25Speaker 3: all along, as crazy, as horrible as his anti-Semitism is,
- 8:30Speaker 3: as just horrifying as his ideas are, his socialism, all
- 8:35Speaker 3: this crap, the good news is he is a guy
- 8:40Speaker 3: who never had a job. He's a kid who never worked.
- 8:43Speaker 3: never had a job, knows nothing about running a business
- 8:46Speaker 3: or managing or anything like that. The good news is
- 8:49Speaker 3: he doesn't actually do anything. President Trump has met with
- 8:53Speaker 3: him a couple of times. President Trump talks to him
- 8:56Speaker 3: on the phone a lot. One thing about Donald Trump,
- 8:58Speaker 3: he can read people. He's very good at reading people.
- 9:01Speaker 3: He's got like radar, sonar, and he's been telling people
- 9:04Speaker 3: privately about Mom Down. He's been telling people privately, the
- 9:09Speaker 3: guy's a coward. He's not brave. He's also very lazy.
- 9:12Speaker 3: He's not going to do anything. He'll get nothing done.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I mean, the one thing he does get done, he
- 9:17Speaker 3: makes these TikTok videos. He does podcasts. He does interviews.
- 9:21Speaker 3: He smiles, goes on any kind of podcast, makes another
- 9:25Speaker 3: TikTok video. This is his day. This is what he does.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So he's on this Theo Vaughn podcast. Here he is
- 9:34Speaker 3: again going after Netanyahu. This is a good example. You
- 9:37Speaker 3: remember he's screaming through the campaign. And while he's in office,
- 9:40Speaker 3: he's screaming that we're going to arrest Netanyahu. We're going
- 9:44Speaker 3: to arrest Netanyahu. If he comes to New York, we're
- 9:46Speaker 3: arresting him. It's just talk. He just talks. Netanyahu comes
- 9:50Speaker 3: to New York. Mamdani does absolutely nothing. Netanyahu is here
- 9:55Speaker 3: for a few days. He leaves New York. And here's
- 9:58Speaker 3: Mamdani back on this podcast saying we're he's calling for
- 10:01Speaker 3: the arrest of Netanyahu. The guy was just here. You
- 10:04Speaker 3: didn't do a thing. But this is the Mamdani playbook.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So you can be a little reassured by that. Every
- 10:11Speaker 3: crazy thing he says, it's just talk. He never actually
- 10:14Speaker 3: does anything. But here he is on this podcast again.
- 10:17Speaker 3: They must arrest Netanyahu, and he calls for the U.S.
- 10:20Speaker 3: to join the ICC. That's the International Criminal Court. This
- 10:25Speaker 3: is a fake court that was— three guys in the Netherlands
- 10:29Speaker 3: came up with this fake thing, the International Criminal Court.
- 10:32Speaker 3: They got a couple of crazy little third-world dictatorship countries
- 10:37Speaker 3: to join them, but nobody recognizes this court. It's not
- 10:41Speaker 3: recognized by the United States. Even the big Democratic leader, Schumer,
- 10:45Speaker 3: Hakeem Jeffries, have said, This is not a real court.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Nobody should recognize it. So, uh, they put out an
- 10:52Speaker 3: arrest warrant for Netanyahu, but again, it's not a real court.
- 10:54Speaker 3: This is a real court. Like a judge Judy has
- 10:57Speaker 3: a real court. This is like the people's court. It's
- 10:59Speaker 3: just something somebody made up. So, uh, but, uh, in
- 11:05Speaker 3: the podcast, mom Donnie's talking about Netanyahu. He says the
- 11:08Speaker 3: architect of a horrific genocide, but this is the way
- 11:12Speaker 3: this guy is. Uh, Anything Netanyahu did was merely a
- 11:16Speaker 3: response to the Holocaust that took place on October 7th. Now,
- 11:22Speaker 3: that's war crimes, just slaughtering babies, just literally cutting the
- 11:27Speaker 3: throats of babies, raping women. That's Hamas. You never hear
- 11:31Speaker 3: a peep about it from Mamdani. He doesn't even mention it.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But Netanyahu responds the way anybody should respond, and Mamdani
- 11:40Speaker 3: yelling and screaming, But this is all he does. He's
- 11:44Speaker 3: also on this podcast talking about how wonderful socialism is. Now,
- 11:48Speaker 3: you could look at history, and socialism has been tried
- 11:52Speaker 3: 10,000 times, a total failure all 10,000 times. One thing
- 11:57Speaker 3: about these crazy left-wing Democrats, they don't believe in science.
- 12:01Speaker 3: They never follow the science. For instance, an economy. There's
- 12:05Speaker 3: a science to an economy. We know what works. We
- 12:08Speaker 3: know what doesn't work. because it's been tested a million times.
- 12:11Speaker 3: This is an actual science. Like socialism, it's been tried
- 12:15Speaker 3: 10,000 times. It's failed 10,000 times. Not only has it failed,
- 12:18Speaker 3: it's made everybody much worse. So that's the science. 10,000 experiments, 100%
- 12:24Speaker 3: failure rate. But again, Democrats and socialists don't follow the science.
- 12:29Speaker 3: They just ignore the numbers, they ignore the science, and
- 12:33Speaker 3: just keep going. But that's the good news of Mom Donnie.
- 12:36Speaker 3: He just does these silly podcasts. Now this is a,
- 12:39Speaker 3: This one's a little over the line here. The other
- 12:44Speaker 3: thing he does all day is TikTok and social media.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And he's got this social media team, about 200 influencers.
- 12:52Speaker 3: They call it his troll farm. And his new plot
- 12:56Speaker 3: now is to go after the big CEOs in New York,
- 12:59Speaker 3: the big CEOs, and smear them. He's going to have
- 13:02Speaker 3: these 200 influencers go after them. Now, apparently there's some grown-ups...
- 13:07Speaker 3: Actual adults in the Mamdani administration, they are very alarmed
- 13:12Speaker 3: about this. In fact, that's the reason we know about this.
- 13:15Speaker 3: They have been warning everybody, telling reporters, leaking out this project.
- 13:20Speaker 3: They think it's disgusting. A smear campaign against New York
- 13:23Speaker 3: City's top CEOs. Now, hopefully, this will wake up these CEOs.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I mean, they're all trying to get along with Mamdani,
- 13:33Speaker 3: but it might wake them up to the fact that
- 13:35Speaker 3: they've got to actually do something. They can put together
- 13:39Speaker 3: massive amounts of money, massive amounts of money, and go
- 13:43Speaker 3: after him, social media, or just bombard the airwaves with commerce, something.
- 13:49Speaker 3: But they're going to have to respond to this guy
- 13:52Speaker 3: and once and for all stand up to him and
- 13:54Speaker 3: put him in his place. But this could get ugly
- 13:57Speaker 3: in the meantime. Red Sox out of it. Dave Portnoy,
- 14:02Speaker 3: you know, he's a Boston guy, a Massachusetts guy, really
- 14:05Speaker 3: going after the Red Sox. Portnoy really going after the owner,
- 14:09Speaker 3: John Henry, saying it was absolutely humiliating. The Red Sox
- 14:13Speaker 3: can't score their lineup, and they were just awful in September.
- 14:18Speaker 3: But this is what John Henry wants. I don't know
- 14:20Speaker 3: what that means. John Henry's the owner. Red Sox owns
- 14:24Speaker 3: Liverpool Football Club, owns RFK Racing. He owns the Boston Globe.
- 14:30Speaker 3: But Portnoy says they're just built to be a fringe
- 14:32Speaker 3: playoff team, to not compete for the division. Just a
- 14:35Speaker 3: fringe playoff team. that gets bounced quickly. Yeah, I guess
- 14:39Speaker 3: it is. I've been a bunch of those through the years. Hey,
- 14:42Speaker 3: we'll take some calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number. 800-321-0710.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Get Mark on demand by setting a preset for his
- 14:48Speaker 3: podcast on the iHeartRadio app. Now back to Mark Simone
- 14:52Speaker 3: on WOR. Hey, let's take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Let's go to Sandy in Rhode Island. Sandy, how are
- 15:12Speaker 3: you doing?
- 15:13Speaker 4: Hi, Mark.
- 15:14Speaker 5: How are you?
- 15:15Speaker 4: I'm doing fine. How are you doing?
- 15:16Speaker 3: Let me check. Not bad. Not bad.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I don't usually call in on radio stations.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, we can tell.
- 15:24Speaker 6: I like you.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Oh, I like you, too. I wanted to read you something.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Where are you in Rhode Island?
- 15:30Speaker 4: Well, I've told you before. Wesley, Rhode Island.
- 15:32Speaker 3: What, am I supposed to remember this?
- 15:33Speaker 5: We.
- 15:34Speaker 3: There are millions of people here.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Well, you're so smart. I think you could.
- 15:38Speaker 5: All right.
- 15:39Speaker 3: What did you want to say?
- 15:40Speaker 4: It will only take 30 seconds. I want to read
- 15:43Speaker 4: you this. I think it's funny.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I've given up social media for the new year, and
- 15:48Speaker 4: I'm trying to make friends outside Facebook while applying the
- 15:51Speaker 4: same principles. Every day I walk down the street and
- 15:55Speaker 4: tell a passerby what I've eaten, how I feel, what
- 16:00Speaker 4: I did the night before, and what I will do today.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I will do it tomorrow. Then I give them pictures
- 16:07Speaker 4: of my family, my dog, and me gardening. I also
- 16:11Speaker 4: listen to their conversations and tell them I love them.
- 16:15Speaker 4: And it works. I already have three people following me,
- 16:18Speaker 4: two police officers and a psychiatrist.
- 16:21Speaker 3: All right. But, you know, here's the flaw in this.
- 16:24Speaker 3: If you're doing this on Facebook, you've connected and you're
- 16:27Speaker 3: friends with friends of yours. So you're putting this to
- 16:30Speaker 3: people that you know or they're people that are following
- 16:32Speaker 3: you so they know you.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Well, I got this from the Reader's Digest. It was
- 16:36Speaker 4: submitted by a lady from Virginia.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Oh, my God. They still have that thing? The Reader's Digest.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I thought it was funny.
- 16:43Speaker 3: The Reader's Digest? It still exists?
- 16:47Speaker 4: I know. But could you do this? Could you walk
- 16:49Speaker 4: down the street and just talk to a nobody and
- 16:51Speaker 4: just tell them?
- 16:52Speaker 3: I do it all the time.
- 16:53Speaker 4: That's great.
- 16:58Speaker 3: The Reader's Digest. You mean it's like a physical little
- 17:00Speaker 3: magazine you get?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Well, yes.
- 17:04Speaker 4: I mean, you're that young that you don't remember the
- 17:06Speaker 4: Reader's Digest?
- 17:07Speaker 3: I didn't know it was still around. I mean, do
- 17:08Speaker 3: you go online and read it, or do they actually
- 17:10Speaker 3: send it to you?
- 17:11Speaker 4: No, no, I've had this for a while. I read
- 17:14Speaker 4: it to people once in a while. I think it's funny.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Well, there's two people that look at the Reader's Digest,
- 17:18Speaker 3: you and Frank Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond. You remember
- 17:22Speaker 3: that episode? All right, thanks for calling, Sandy. Let's go
- 17:25Speaker 3: to Greg in Jersey City. Greg, how are you doing?
- 17:30Speaker 5: Good, Mark.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Good.
- 17:31Speaker 7: When Disney bought ESPN, they shut down ABC Sports. Could
- 17:36Speaker 7: you envision, you know, Ellison shutting down one of those
- 17:40Speaker 7: two units, say, like have, you know, CNN on CBS
- 17:44Speaker 7: or just have, like, a CBS news channel?
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's actually not a bad idea. CBS is one
- 17:50Speaker 3: of the networks that does not have a cable outlet,
- 17:53Speaker 3: although NBC had MSNBC, and they realized it's a terrible
- 17:57Speaker 3: thing to have, so about a year ago they threw
- 17:59Speaker 3: it out and got rid of it. Fox is a
- 18:01Speaker 3: broadcast network and also has cable. Yeah, they could make
- 18:03Speaker 3: it a CBS cable network. Yeah, that would be a
- 18:06Speaker 3: good idea. Not a bad idea, actually. Let's go to
- 18:09Speaker 3: Ralph in Manhattan. Ralph, how are you doing?
- 18:13Speaker 6: Mark, wasn't it something how Mamdani did not respond to Netanyahu?
- 18:18Speaker 6: Netanyahu tore him apart, tore him to shreds. He had
- 18:21Speaker 6: nothing to say whatsoever. I found that to reveal the
- 18:26Speaker 6: true character of the guy, didn't you?
- 18:29Speaker 3: Well, we know what the true character is. He's never
- 18:30Speaker 3: had a job. He doesn't work. He just does smiles
- 18:33Speaker 3: and does videos, makes TikTok videos. Does podcasts. That's his
- 18:36Speaker 3: true character. Doesn't actually do anything.
- 18:39Speaker 6: All that free stuff that he promised is not actually
- 18:41Speaker 6: coming true, as people can see. But I'll tell you something.
- 18:44Speaker 6: There are some people that still maintain their allegiance to
- 18:48Speaker 6: this guy. They love this guy. I'm talking about the
- 18:50Speaker 6: mayor right now. You'd be surprised how many people walking
- 18:52Speaker 6: around New York City still feel a kinship toward this guy.
- 18:56Speaker 3: No, you've got to remember, it's a younger crowd, and
- 18:58Speaker 3: their whole life is fantasy. It's video games. Nothing's real.
- 19:01Speaker 3: So it's the same thing with him. You do it
- 19:03Speaker 3: on TikTok. You smile. You make a TikTok video. You
- 19:06Speaker 3: proclaim things. You never actually do them. You just talk
- 19:08Speaker 3: about them. And that appeals to a lot of younger people.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Let's go to Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how are you doing?
- 19:15Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark. Mark, I'm okay. Mark, I don't know
- 19:18Speaker 1: why President Trump keeps giving... credence and credibility to Mayor
- 19:24Speaker 1: Mondami by visiting him and then afterwards saying things like, oh,
- 19:29Speaker 1: he could do great things. The guy is, Mondami's a dirtbag, period.
- 19:34Speaker 1: That would be like the godfather going to meet, going
- 19:39Speaker 1: to the turf of some low-life bookie who has maybe
- 19:44Speaker 1: a book enabled of four square blocks that he takes
- 19:48Speaker 1: the number. Exactly. you kidding me?
- 19:51Speaker 3: The flaw in your argument is that this is not
- 19:54Speaker 3: some low-life bookie. This is the mayor of New York.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but this is the mayor who constantly.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Says— No, he's terrible, and Trump can't stand him, but
- 20:01Speaker 3: he is the mayor of New York, so he's got
- 20:03Speaker 3: to try to straighten the guy out as best he can.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What straighten him out, Mark? Stop with that crock of baloney.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He hasn't been able to do anything— I understand.
- 20:13Speaker 3: But he's got to try. He's got to at least
- 20:16Speaker 3: have some relationship with the guy. Also, remember, he owns
- 20:18Speaker 3: a massive business in New York.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He's trying to— And still, Mayor Mondami, once Trump leaves,
- 20:24Speaker 1: he trashes Trump. He trashes the Republicans. He trashes Netanyahu.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And please, everybody, stop with the five-step chess game that
- 20:36Speaker 1: Trump is playing. He is not.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Well, you've got to remember, it's not just Trump. Every
- 20:40Speaker 3: major figure in New York, every major CEO, business does
- 20:43Speaker 3: the same thing. They're all meeting with Mondami. They're talking
- 20:45Speaker 3: to Mondami.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and Mondami's making fools out of everything. Yesterday, I
- 20:49Speaker 1: had a comeback at rush hour from 68th Street on
- 20:54Speaker 1: the FDR Drive. The traffic was moving about five miles
- 20:58Speaker 1: an hour. The city is a mess. The highway looked
- 21:03Speaker 1: like it was falling apart. The pilings are rusting. The
- 21:08Speaker 1: steel girders, the guards on the side of the highway,
- 21:13Speaker 1: it's a mess.
- 21:13Speaker 3: That's all true, but that was true every year in
- 21:16Speaker 3: New York. It was 20 years ago when Bloomberg was
- 21:19Speaker 3: the mayor. You'd be stuck in traffic in rush hour
- 21:21Speaker 3: on FDR Drive. Not like now. Yes, you would.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Not like now. Now, if it was going five miles
- 21:28Speaker 1: an hour, it was going very fast.
- 21:31Speaker 3: That was always the case in rush hour in New York.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Remember Giuliani had to fire that traffic commissioner he had
- 21:37Speaker 3: because the traffic got so bad. It always happens.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Well, that doesn't matter. bode well for this city coming back.
- 21:46Speaker 1: All these fools who are buying these million-dollar apartments wait
- 21:51Speaker 1: 10 years when they realize, oh my God, what did
- 21:55Speaker 1: I buy here? What did I buy?
- 21:57Speaker 3: Everybody was saying this 10 years ago when de Blasio
- 22:00Speaker 3: came in.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and what about the fact that now we're paying
- 22:03Speaker 1: more for taxes, for water, for goods and services?
- 22:07Speaker 3: I understand. We'll get Blakeman in there and we'll get
- 22:10Speaker 3: that taxes reduced.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And how's he going to get it down when we
- 22:13Speaker 1: have all these nuts on the city council, the principal?
- 22:17Speaker 3: Well, he'd be working with the state legislature. He's pretty
- 22:19Speaker 3: good at that. He's done that all his life, negotiate
- 22:21Speaker 3: with Democrats. But Vincent, great call as always. Thanks for calling. Hey,
- 22:25Speaker 3: when we come back, the great actor, writer, producer, director,
- 22:29Speaker 3: William DeMeo. Have you seen the series Grave's End? It's
- 22:33Speaker 3: like the new Sopranos. It's a new season coming up, too.
- 22:37Speaker 3: We'll talk to him next. It's a good show, Grave's End.
- 22:40Speaker 3: We'll get to that coming up on 710WOR.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Mark Simone, live from the WOR Life Fact Studios.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Well, you know, there's this great series called Grave's End.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It's on Amazon Prime, season three, just released. Gravesend, if
- 23:02Speaker 3: you love gangster films and mob stuff, and it's a
- 23:05Speaker 3: wonderful series. A lot of you already know it, but
- 23:06Speaker 3: many of you might not. Gravesend, it's on Amazon Prime.
- 23:10Speaker 3: It's produced, directed, written, stars the great writer, director, actor,
- 23:18Speaker 3: William DeMeo. Of course, you remember him from The Sopranos
- 23:20Speaker 3: and Bronx Tale and a million other things. William DeMeo,
- 23:24Speaker 3: how you doing?
- 23:26Speaker 5: I'm great, Mark. It's always a pleasure to come back
- 23:28Speaker 5: to you.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You're a legend yourself and, you know, New York radio, buddy.
- 23:32Speaker 2: You know, I just was on with Sid and he
- 23:34Speaker 2: told me to tell you, he says hello to you,
- 23:37Speaker 2: Sid Rosenberg's fan of you as well. And I know
- 23:39Speaker 2: you're a fan of him, but, um, you know, appreciate
- 23:42Speaker 2: being on with you again, my pal.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Boy, you're like Henry Kissinger, a shuttle diplomacy going from
- 23:47Speaker 3: one side to the other from Sid to here. I
- 23:49Speaker 3: like that. That's pretty impressive. So, Hey, Sid's in the
- 23:52Speaker 3: series too, right?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yes, it's in the series, but I told him I
- 23:56Speaker 2: was going to be speaking with you today, and he's
- 23:58Speaker 2: a fan of you, and I know you listen to
- 24:00Speaker 2: him as well.
- 24:01Speaker 5: You guys, you know, it's great.
- 24:03Speaker 1: It's great.
- 24:04Speaker 5: New York, it's just, you know, New York radio, buddy.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't be in the series, though, right? I
- 24:08Speaker 3: don't look like a gangster, do I?
- 24:11Speaker 5: Hey, we can find a place for you, buddy.
- 24:13Speaker 3: No, but I don't.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Come on, buddy.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I don't look like Pauly Walnuts or anything like that, so.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Yeah, Pauly Walnuts, a Brooklyn guy.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Tony Sirico.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Graves End, it's a great series, and this is season three,
- 24:28Speaker 3: but part one, right? There's more coming?
- 24:31Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes.
- 24:32Speaker 2: So season three, part one, is available now for purchase
- 24:36Speaker 2: on Amazon Prime, and we're proud to say that we
- 24:40Speaker 2: were in the number.
- 24:41Speaker 5: One spot since it came out.
- 24:44Speaker 2: It's been really, the fans have came out and were
- 24:47Speaker 2: waiting for it, and they all stepped up, and I'm
- 24:50Speaker 2: so proud. proud of of our fan base and the
- 24:54Speaker 2: people oh did we lose him a lot on on
- 24:59Speaker 2: amazon prime so it's uh we have a great fan base.
- 25:03Speaker 3: All right the new season is that a lot of
- 25:04Speaker 3: big names like to appear on graves and who do
- 25:06Speaker 3: you got this season.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yes yeah no we got a lot of new people
- 25:11Speaker 2: mark we have uh you know we got shaquille o'neal
- 25:14Speaker 2: you know shack and His group, which includes Maino, great rapper,
- 25:19Speaker 2: and Peter Gunz, another great rapper, and James Harrison, you know,
- 25:23Speaker 2: the linebacker from the Steelers. I'm a big Steeler fan,
- 25:26Speaker 2: so we have him in the show. We have the
- 25:28Speaker 2: legendary Talia Shia from The Godfather, and, of course, Rocky. Yeah,
- 25:33Speaker 2: she's added Vince Cortola, you know, Johnny Sack from The Sopranos,
- 25:37Speaker 2: and then Dominic Cinisi, Uncle Junior from The Sopranos, and,
- 25:41Speaker 2: you know, Johnny.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Ola of The Godfather. We added.
- 25:45Speaker 2: We added a nice new group of people to the
- 25:48Speaker 2: third season.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Anthony Rodilla, the great comedian.
- 25:51Speaker 2: We're very happy with the new additions to season three.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Graves End. It's on Amazon Prime. And go ahead.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And I forgot Tony Danza. I can't forget him. Tony
- 26:04Speaker 2: Danza's in part two. Yeah, Tony Danza's in part two.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Part two's coming out around Christmas time, seven episodes later.
- 26:10Speaker 2: But right now, we want to keep the trending going
- 26:13Speaker 2: and everybody get out there and watch Grey's End Season
- 26:16Speaker 2: 3 Part 1 on Amazon Prime. Wow.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Hey, so we've all watched Goodfellas a billion times and
- 26:22Speaker 3: The Godfather a billion times. Today's gangster, 2026 gangster, they're
- 26:26Speaker 3: a lot different, right? They don't wear the velour sweatsuits
- 26:29Speaker 3: anymore and they don't have the flip phones anymore. What's
- 26:32Speaker 3: today's gangster like?
- 26:33Speaker 2: Well, they're not as stereotypical as in the past. I
- 26:38Speaker 2: would say that today's you know, they're just obviously more
- 26:42Speaker 2: low key, but it's hard to be low key when
- 26:44Speaker 2: there's a camera on every corner and you got people
- 26:47Speaker 2: on podcasts and stuff like.
- 26:49Speaker 5: That, bringing their names up every five minutes.
- 26:51Speaker 2: But, um, but they try to, uh, they try to,
- 26:56Speaker 2: you know, it's definitely a more low key. I don't
- 27:00Speaker 2: think you'd see as many guys like in front of
- 27:02Speaker 2: a social club as you would in graves in 1987,
- 27:05Speaker 2: our show.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 3: So the show takes place in the eighties. That's the
- 27:09Speaker 3: reason I asked it to, great time period. You know,
- 27:12Speaker 3: the worst thing is when they try to do it
- 27:13Speaker 3: in Boston, like this Whitey Bulger. Remember the movie Departed?
- 27:17Speaker 3: Boston gangsters. It doesn't work. You know, gangsters have to
- 27:20Speaker 3: be at the Copa or hanging out with Frankie Valli.
- 27:22Speaker 3: They can't be in Boston, right?
- 27:25Speaker 2: Speaking of Frankie Valli, Frankie Valli is a we have
- 27:29Speaker 2: a lot of his music.
- 27:30Speaker 5: In, in season two. And we, we, you know, he's
- 27:32Speaker 5: a great guy, Frankie.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:34Speaker 2: But getting back to what you were saying, I mean,
- 27:35Speaker 2: you know, the culprit is, you know, good fellas, uh,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you know, just, just something special about shooting. Like we
- 27:41Speaker 2: shoot a lot of people do these movies and these
- 27:44Speaker 2: TV shows about New York and they shoot it in Atlanta.
- 27:48Speaker 2: They shoot it in, you know, different parts of the,
- 27:50Speaker 2: of this, of this, of America, instead of shooting it
- 27:53Speaker 2: in New York, we, we shoot everything right in Brooklyn
- 27:57Speaker 2: on the streets, uh, you know, all in the, in
- 27:59Speaker 2: the boroughs, you know, and, and, and restaurants and very
- 28:03Speaker 2: well-known places. We shoot all over, you know, the places
- 28:07Speaker 2: in Brooklyn. So it's as, it's, it's as authentic as
- 28:12Speaker 2: it could be.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 3: William DeMeo is the star. He's also the writer and
- 28:15Speaker 3: the director. It's a great series. Gravesend season three just released. Hey,
- 28:21Speaker 3: I don't know if you can explain this, but what
- 28:22Speaker 3: is it about gangsters? You could watch the Godfather a
- 28:25Speaker 3: zillion times. You could watch Goodfellas a trillion times. What
- 28:29Speaker 3: is it about gangsters that so fascinates us?
- 28:33Speaker 5: Well, a perfect example of that is like The Sopranos, right?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Because The Sopranos was, no one thought it was going
- 28:40Speaker 2: to be like the number one show probably in history.
- 28:44Speaker 2: It came out, and when it came out, I mean,
- 28:47Speaker 2: it just took the world by storm. And we're kind
- 28:50Speaker 2: of seeing that with Gravesend, you know, following The Sopranos, which,
- 28:54Speaker 2: you know, years later... I just think that, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 2: it's an escape for people. And I think they kind
- 29:00Speaker 2: of like root for the bad guys who actually kind
- 29:04Speaker 2: of have the good things with them as well. You know,
- 29:06Speaker 2: you could identify with characters like a Tony Soprano who
- 29:10Speaker 2: one minute will choke you and knock you out. And
- 29:13Speaker 2: then the next minute he's in his backyard with the ducks. So,
- 29:17Speaker 2: you know, if you kind of look at the way
- 29:19Speaker 2: these guys are, they joke around with each other, they
- 29:21Speaker 2: hang out with their friends, they crack jokes.
- 29:24Speaker 5: And stuff like that.
- 29:25Speaker 2: And I think people kind of it's an escape for
- 29:29Speaker 2: people in a way where, you know, these movies look,
- 29:32Speaker 2: if you look at, you know, some of the greatest actors,
- 29:34Speaker 2: Robert De Niro and and uh al pacino and these
- 29:38Speaker 2: guys who joe pesci who have been in so many.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Movies but what are they known for yeah known.
- 29:44Speaker 2: For goodfellas they're known for scarface they're known for colito's
- 29:47Speaker 2: way they're known for donnie brasco it just seems like
- 29:50Speaker 2: those movies really resonate with people like you said.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah it's the most popular genre of anything in the
- 29:57Speaker 3: film but The latest greatest is Graves End. It's season three.
- 30:02Speaker 3: It just dropped season three. It's on Amazon Prime and
- 30:07Speaker 3: William DeMeo. So you want to give us a little
- 30:10Speaker 3: hint as to what's coming up towards the end of
- 30:12Speaker 3: the season?
- 30:14Speaker 5: Yeah, sure.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Well, you know, everyone that was watching season one and
- 30:17Speaker 2: two know that Charlie came out of prison, you know,
- 30:20Speaker 2: welcome home cause played by a wonderful actor, Chris Tardio.
- 30:23Speaker 2: And he, you know, that's Benny's cousin and he's out
- 30:26Speaker 2: now and, and Chaz Palminteri is, is Cesar Tramaldo. And
- 30:31Speaker 2: it's the power struggle between the two sides of the
- 30:34Speaker 2: Calezzo family. And then you got Shaquille O'Neal who steps
- 30:37Speaker 2: in playing a character named Mustafa, who kind of like
- 30:41Speaker 2: runs the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn and they, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 2: him and Benny become friends and he gets in the
- 30:47Speaker 2: middle of this whole thing. And it's a, it's a
- 30:49Speaker 2: fun ride and it's a, we got all the same,
- 30:51Speaker 2: you know, great music and, great Cadillacs and Lincolns and
- 30:56Speaker 2: to call Cologne and, and, uh, you know, the woman
- 30:58Speaker 2: with the hairdos and, you know, the great, the, the,
- 31:01Speaker 2: the Velour sweatsuits from the Brooklyn brand.
- 31:04Speaker 5: And, uh, yeah, that you, you would want to see
- 31:09Speaker 5: in there.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Um, and, uh, it's, it's the struggle that happens between
- 31:15Speaker 2: the two parts of the family that I think people
- 31:19Speaker 2: are really identifying with right now and coming out to watch. So,
- 31:23Speaker 2: We appreciate our fans and we appreciate them spreading the word.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Because coming on with shows like you, like last season
- 31:30Speaker 2: and Sid and all these different shows and Rosanna Scotto
- 31:34Speaker 2: and all of these great interviews I do has built
- 31:37Speaker 2: up our fan base.
- 31:38Speaker 5: So I always appreciate going on with you, Mark. You're
- 31:41Speaker 5: a legend yourself.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You've been on the radio for so many years.
- 31:44Speaker 5: I always love listening to you and you're a great guy.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Thank you for having me.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Anytime. I love the show. It's Gravesend. Everybody go watch it.
- 31:52Speaker 3: If you haven't seen it from the beginning, start with
- 31:54Speaker 3: season one. But if you're a big fan of Gravesend,
- 31:57Speaker 3: a lot of people are. Season three just released. It's
- 32:00Speaker 3: on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Prime. It's called Gravesend. So,
- 32:05Speaker 3: William DeMeo, congratulations. Great show. And we'll talk again soon.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I can't wait to come back to you, Mark. Have
- 32:13Speaker 2: a great day. God bless you. And, you know, always
- 32:16Speaker 2: keep up the great work yourself.
- 32:17Speaker 6: All right.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Take care. Talk to you soon. Take care. Uh, it's
- 32:21Speaker 3: a wonderful show. Graves end. You'll love it. Amazon prime. Uh, Hey,
- 32:26Speaker 3: don't forget coming up at noon today. You got Buck
- 32:29Speaker 3: and Clay. Excellent show every day, noon to three, then
- 32:34Speaker 3: three o'clock. You got the most listened to radio show
- 32:36Speaker 3: in America. Sean Hannity. Uh, he'll be back today. Turned
- 32:41Speaker 3: out he couldn't get there yesterday. His plane got diverted
- 32:44Speaker 3: or something. So, uh, I ended up having to do it,
- 32:46Speaker 3: but he'll be there today with lots to talk about.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Then at 6 o'clock, you got Jesse Kelly. 9 o'clock,
- 32:55Speaker 3: Jimmy Fela. Very funny show every night at 9. Now,
- 32:58Speaker 3: don't forget, I'm three hours now. I start at 9 o'clock.
- 33:01Speaker 3: It's three hours, 9 to noon every day. And, of course,
- 33:04Speaker 3: before that, from 6 to 9, it's Curtis Sliwa and
- 33:08Speaker 3: Larry Menti. On 710WOR.
- 33:12Speaker 5: He's always a headline ahead. Mark Simone. 710WOR.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Well, hey, the terrible Cornell gang rape allegation. Horrible story.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Kathy Hochul holding a big press conference this morning, yelling
- 33:27Speaker 3: and screaming about this poor girl, Cornell failed her at
- 33:31Speaker 3: every turn. You know, if you look at the actual
- 33:33Speaker 3: track record of all this, and the timeline. Cornell did
- 33:37Speaker 3: take action. They expelled those kids. They closed the fraternity.
- 33:40Speaker 3: They turned the whole thing over to the local DA,
- 33:43Speaker 3: the district attorney, who works for Kathy Hochul, by the way.
- 33:46Speaker 3: District attorneys, that's a state job. It was Kathy Hochul's
- 33:50Speaker 3: district attorney. He's the guy that didn't prosecute. He's the
- 33:54Speaker 3: guy that decided not to. So now she's removing him
- 33:57Speaker 3: from the case, appointing Letitia James. But this is two
- 34:01Speaker 3: years after the rape took place. So Hochul, because it's
- 34:05Speaker 3: an election year, because she's probably going to get beaten,
- 34:09Speaker 3: trying to look like she's on top of this and
- 34:11Speaker 3: she's taking action. Well, where was she for the last year?
- 34:15Speaker 3: When the guy turned down the case originally, where was she? Well,
