Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 0:05Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Way. All right,
- 0:13thanks again the Gene Watson, our MLB insider there. Yeah,
- 0:19I think he's probably got a future in broadcasting at
- 0:21some point, in working in doing podcasting and commenty, especially
- 0:26when you hear all the things, all the podcast and
- 0:28all the satellite network radio baseball shows. I think he's
- 0:33you know, he's been doing it for a while and
- 0:35we always enjoy having him on joining us as well.
- 0:40The Tigers and Guardians are still scoreless, although Cleveland is
- 0:45threatening a leadoff double. U has the first run of
- 0:49the ball game about to score. Maybe not. It was
- 0:53a hit through the left side. Yeah, so they're runners
- 0:56on the corners, but nobody out for Cleveland as they
- 1:01bat in the bottom half of the sixth inning. We'll
- 1:03keep you post on them. And again, the Guardians lead
- 1:05that series one game to none of Detroit and Cleveland.
- 1:09Other than other than teams who have never been to
- 1:15the World Series, like the Mariners, I'm trying to think
- 1:22who else has never been New World Series? Is it?
- 1:24Is it only the Mariners who have never been to
- 1:27a World Series. You go American League East Yankees Orioles,
- 1:30Blue Jay's, Red Sox AH. Then in the Central with Royals, Tigers, Guardians,
- 1:41Twins uh. And then you have Angels, Rangers, astros A's. Yeah,
- 1:53you're in the they're in the right division, the the
- 1:57and the Mariners. So there's never appeared World series, right,
- 2:00has anyone else never appeared in the World Series. They're
- 2:03the only ones who know, all right, so other than
- 2:05the Seattle Mariners who've never been in a World Series
- 2:07but didn't come into existence until nineteen seventy seven. And
- 2:11so you can make this statement, and it is true.
- 2:13The longest drought for appearing in a World Series belongs,
- 2:19or for winning for winning a World Series belongs to
- 2:22the Cleveland Guardians, who were the Indians for roof not
- 2:24one one since nineteen forty eight. Now, they were in
- 2:27it when they lost to the Cubs in twenty sixteen.
- 2:29They were in it ninety seven when they lost Game
- 2:32seven to the Marlins. Uh. And they've been in it.
- 2:36They were in it nineteen fifty four when they won
- 2:37one hundred and eleven ball games that year and got
- 2:39swept by the Giants in the World Series. But that's
- 2:43the longest drought because the Mariners weren't even in existence
- 2:46until nineteen seventy seven. So Cleveland has the longest drought
- 2:49of not winning a World Series. But they do have
- 2:53a one nothing lead. Do they have one nothing linking? Yes?
- 2:57A double No, they got out of it. Tiger's got
- 3:00out of the ground ball double play. Wow. Scooball very
- 3:04very happy through that inning. A double play got the
- 3:08Tigers out of the inning. So it's still scoreless after
- 3:11six innings there quickly turned double play six four to
- 3:15three to end the frame. There, All right, let's hear
- 3:17some more from Long Oranges head coach Steve Sarkesian. This
- 3:20from the weekly news conference that we brought to you
- 3:23a live earlier today here on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 3:27hundred The Zone, and he was asked if he had
- 3:32a favorite Texas ou moment. What might that be?
- 3:37Speaker 2: I love everything about the Red River rivalry. I love
- 3:39pulling into the State Fair and seeing fans from both
- 3:42teams and horns up, horns down, all the stuff's flying
- 3:46around the buses. I love walking the field. I love
- 3:49the tunnel. I love both teams being on the tunnel together.
- 3:51I love coming down and their fans on top of us.
- 3:54I love looking at the sea of burn orange and
- 3:56running to that end of the field. I love the
- 4:00city of the game. I love how crowded the sidelines are.
- 4:03I don't I don't know how so many people get
- 4:05on the sidelines for this game, but they do. Hey whatever,
- 4:08you know, I turn over, turn around and Governor Abbotts
- 4:10right next to me on the field, And there's just
- 4:11stuff that happens in this game that I think that's
- 4:14what makes this game special. And like I said, we're
- 4:16fortunate to be part of it, and this week's no different.
- 4:20Speaker 1: He was asked if there's a specific position for Oklahoma
- 4:25that presents the biggest challenge to taxes.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, they've all they've got big playability at the wide
- 4:29receiver spot, you know, and I think they've done a
- 4:32nice job of creating explosive plays and recruiting to explosive
- 4:37play makers, you know, whether it's Burke's Anderson, you know,
- 4:41Brendon Thompson's created explosive plays. So they've got speed, they've
- 4:44got length, they've got playmaking ability, and that's that's you know,
- 4:49one of the keys to the drill is is how
- 4:51do we how do we guard those people stop the
- 4:54run and worry about a quarterback who can extend plays
- 4:56with his legs and so there's a lot of levels
- 4:59to this. But you know, when you have threats on
- 5:01the perimeter, now you have to think about how how
- 5:04are we gonna how are we gonna guard them in
- 5:05a fashion to try to minimize those explosive plays that
- 5:08they're more than capable of making.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I asked my cardball hard on our Long Worns Monday
- 5:13live coverage this morning. I said, I said, you do
- 5:17a better job than I do of paying attention to
- 5:19such things. I said, well, what are the fellas in
- 5:21the desert saying about this? In other words, the points
- 5:23breadt the betting line and at the time he said
- 5:26fourteen and a half and it hadn't moved since last week,
- 5:30So it'll be interesting to see well. Sark was asked
- 5:32about his team being a two touchdown favorite.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I didn't know that it's a rivalry game. Forget forget
- 5:39whatever we're favored or we're not. It doesn't matter. You
- 5:42know that records and things don't matter in games like this.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so when it comes to freshman quarterbacks playing, arch
- 5:51banning of course is played, so and then Michael Hawkins
- 5:54being a true freshman as well. Is there advantage to
- 5:58playing some freshman quarterback to get him that kind of experience?
- 6:01Speaker 2: You know, I think one thing one of the advantages
- 6:03being a true freshman starter in games like this, you
- 6:05have no scars, right, you have no wounds, you have
- 6:07no You're playing with a you know, a clean slate,
- 6:11a blank slate. You know, he's a blank canvas that's
- 6:13just starting to start his career. And so you know,
- 6:17he doesn't have any of those things in the back
- 6:18of his head to worry about, and he's sure he's
- 6:20going to go in there and let it rip and
- 6:22go play. And our job is to try to confuse him.
- 6:24Our job is to try to make it difficult on him.
- 6:28How we do that, We have to do that a
- 6:29variety of ways that you know, all hopefully can add
- 6:34up to making it a tough day for him. But again,
- 6:36that's easier said than done. On a Monday at eleven
- 6:39forty five or whatever time it is. You know, it's
- 6:41going to be a big task for all parties involved,
- 6:45coaches and players included.
- 6:46Speaker 1: No doubt about it. We'll hear more from Coach Star
- 6:48coming up tomorrow, We'll be back to wrap up today's
- 6:50program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
