That's exactly what happened in Tennessee after the state attempted to execute convicted murderer Christa Pike.

Pike was sentenced to death for the brutal 1995 torture and murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

Wednesday night, Tennessee attempted to carry out that sentence using its one-drug lethal injection protocol.

But something went terribly wrong.

Pike received two doses of pentobarbital.

And she didn't die.

Witnesses reported that Pike continued breathing and could be heard snoring…
