- 1:20[SPEAKER_05]: Well, and welcome to a film and TV review, just how regular podcasts of the film and TV shows over the last month or so, done by Regulus Andrew Afonzo, which I know well as well, I've got quite a few
- 1:42[SPEAKER_05]: releases very recently, he's leading up to the kind of the first same season.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_05]: We could too, we would have put it to Badlands, Frankenstein, the running man remake.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_05]: And a few others, but we will kick off with one of the big ones, especially for this season.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_05]: It's wicked too, or rather the second part of the wicked movie, which is basically the Wizard of Oz stageer.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_05]: I think so, this is, I accept a few years after the film, main cast, Cynthia Alvaroas, Arpitha and Andrea Grande as Linda.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_05]: I think so, basically, symbols of good and bad, and on their way to a quest of their way in the world of all such.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_05]: So, did good.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, big fans of this great musical from the first part, which was last year.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_05]: So this was the second part.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_05]: No, well, you saw this Richard and Andrew, you saw this.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_05]: So is it, does it live up to the previous chapter?
- 2:58[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, does it, I mean, this is basically split into two.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_05]: So second part.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_05]: So is this,
- 3:03[SPEAKER_05]: a great one for the season upon us Christmas film.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_05]: No, wow, what did you think of Weekit 2?
- 3:11[SPEAKER_04]: So, Weekit has always had the short coming of Act 1 and 2.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_04]: Because the second act is nowhere near as strong as the first act.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_04]: And Weekit all together's musical is not, while it's beloved by a lot of young people.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_04]: The critics didn't have the same opinions about it.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_04]: It's not known for being an A-level musical.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: Um, which is ironic because I thought with this sort of new way of doing musicals, they would combine elements from the wicked book and the wicked film that way you could pad out the runtime.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_04]: The book is really good and it has a lot of these political elements that they briefly touch on but then don't seem to do anything with, which is very disappointing.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_04]: It felt very rushed, but also like there was a lot of like not like things that could have been cut basically.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_04]: I think if they had done what hunchback of Notre Dame did recently, which is they combine the Disney movie with the book to make a musical.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_04]: If we could did a similar thing of combining some elements from the book to pat out the runtime, make it more interesting and use the songs.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_04]: It would have been much stronger.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_04]: There were some changes I did like.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_04]: I think the...
- 4:17[SPEAKER_04]: the way that the animals are is better because when you see them as real animals, and not just someone in a costume, it adds, you know, to, you know, the situation.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_04]: I also like how they didn't kill Dr. Dillman like to do in the, you know, in the show and book, but still, I just felt like a lot of the time you have this, you have so many plot holes and so many unanswered questions, and it just feels really disappointing because of that,
- 4:46[SPEAKER_04]: fix those things, but unfortunately they didn't.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_04]: So it kind of isn't even a better version of the me as a cool, except for just a couple elements, including like the connection to the wizard laws itself, including how Nessa Rose is portrayed, I think that was a lot better done this time around, but it's not
- 5:05[SPEAKER_04]: Eons better than the musical which is sad because the first part was much better than the musical in my opinion.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_05]: Richard, you saw this as well.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously the first part is so honest.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_05]: Does it say as good or maybe shouldn't have been done or split?
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: I have kind of agree but also disagree with
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the reason I'm saying that is a bit different from what Noah just said, my opinion is that in a way, it's true actually, but the first on the onboard way or in the West End, it's true actually, but the first part, and with it's climatic moments with defying rabbit digs, etc.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: And the second part is kind of doesn't have this great extraordinary moments,
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: But perhaps it's a good reason, it's a good writing in a way because I see it as two parts of the tragedy where you have a very uplifting and kind of funny sometimes.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: all the things that don't have consequences and you see the consequences of these things that they've done the first movie.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: And like a good tragedy, all these things kind of come together and not spoiler, but it's been around in the West End for 20 years.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: You have actually a very sad ending sad last 20 minutes, especially about the friendship about the two main characters, which is very well portrayed on the screen, I think.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: which is a thing with the strongest pattern for these two movies.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: So they are still very emotional moments in the second one, but not in a different emotion than the first movie.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: But the question is, when you do a two-part movie, do you criticize or review it just as it is?
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: Just the second part or do you analyze the whole thing?
- 7:28[SPEAKER_04]: I do analyze the whole thing because, you know, it's kind of like a TV show, you don't say of the episodes really good in this episode's not.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't like the whole thing.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_04]: I just think that because there's multiple source materials out there, not just the musical, they could have done more with like having six hours basically of screen time.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: You could have bought in other elements than that.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: six hours in two parts or they do a four hour movie, but the one in my opinion, but we even better.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you think, even if you think of Harry Potter and the last two Harry Potter's, for me, the first part of Harry Potter, that they are what kind of, not many things happening and then everything happens the second part.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: And when I compare with, I'm a broken record, when I compare with the best adaptation of all time, lot of the rings.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: If you
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: The philosophy of the ring, the two towers are written as a Kim, by itself.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: Just one movie, you think that it's, there are masterpieces, they are really well done.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, you want to see more, but what I mean is that you can enjoy these movies by themselves.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that you can enjoy wicked for goods without watching recently, or just a few days before or just before wicked part one, and especially if you don't know anything about Wizard of the Poes.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: uh, based so many connections with other boards in this part and and I said the consequences of everything that happens a year ago, you can see them now.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, yeah, obviously it's for financial reasons they want to do two releases, very enough, they don't make two twice more money, very enough.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's, I think it's as it's an issue.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: Now, bad being said, I enjoyed again the
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: The two actresses, I think they were born to be these people.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: These two guys, I mean, great casting.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: They were amazing.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I think, again, even in a more dramatic part, let's say that in the first movie.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I felt like it was a very nice conclusion of what I watched last year.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_05]: You think this should have been maybe I think maybe the students kicking itself that it wasn't a free partner that didn't stretch it out because it probably does well make money.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think it is just like good you know what Noel is saying that actually on the in the book space in the sus material why not but I agree but in a way some some story lines in the second part feel almost rushed and you think
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's a wrong decision made until what to adapt what to develop animal.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, unfortunately, the two central characters are amazing still.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, they're all the stuff, but they're not that great.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I also think it makes it difficult, so I just really quick, but makes it difficult as well is the book is very adult and the subject matters very adult and then you have a musical that like 13 year olds like so you can't show everything unfortunately, so which is a disappointing thing.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_05]: Hmm, um, an injury, but east so this is where would you do if it works?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_05]: Do you think maybe it would work better as maybe one maybe four hour kind of like?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just want to say that because, uh, I know in the US that know that they're going to be releasing a four plus hour version of kill bill where they basically take those two films and I guess have some additional scenes
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that's going to be really soon in the US.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, they're getting back to a wicked and that helps me analyze.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't read the book, but I've seen, basically seen the theater of production.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: And now the movies, I'll say that act two of the stage musical is then I'll say that the movie adaptation of that is better
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: back to of the stage musical, what you see there, I mean, that's only like maybe less than an hour.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I guess for this, what they tried to do was, uh,
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: add some things a little more of the side characters and and also Linda and her back story.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: I guess part one is I'm just on out the movies here.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: The part one is focus more on Elfaba and here you have Elfaba again, but you also have Linda and her back story and why she's doing the things that she is doing.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's overall pretty all right for me.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I didn't have any really issues of, oh, well, is this too much?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Are they patting out too much?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the new songs?
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I like them, and some of the other songs that were brought over from the stage performance, like we're good, or some of the other ones.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's no good deed.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Those were still good for this version.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: There are little glitches here there, I think.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's someone pointed out and I was reading.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of noticed it's too.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: There's a scene where it's a bit where like Alphabet's going to meet the wizard and it's supposed to be like the middle of the night.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then she goes off somewhere and then suddenly it's like daytime and they're having the wedding for a Glinda.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, wait, what time of day is it?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Is it the middle of the night or is it the middle of the day?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And are they having wedding late night?
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I thought that was a little strange,
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Overall, I thought it was, you know, a decent adaptation of that and adding some new things and kind of blush out the story of, you know, this, what's happened to the animals and what's going to happen to, you know, society in general and in this reality and flushing that out.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, and and the actors playing these roles, I thought they did decent job.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you mentioned
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: and there's Jeff Goldblum, and then try to remember the others.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: You should, you should, you.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, see about her.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: About her, I mean, she was all right.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: I can't really see no.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: I thought somewhere she might have been able to sing somewhere else, but here I didn't sound like she.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it's going to be back because it didn't sound so good.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: you know, whatever.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, uh, and Rissa, body, body, yeah, that's actually, that's all right for the, this we saw her.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, there is some nods to, uh, I say the Wizard of Oz.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I guess, what people are familiar with, it's the 1939 version of the Wizard of Oz.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: There are many different adaptations of the Wizard of Oz.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: The 1930, then Judy Garland one wasn't even the first one.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: actually so but that's the one that people are familiar with and so that's kind of the one that they're going for.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it made a little changes like the slippers weren't ruby color, I guess.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it would be red, right?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but in the original book they're silver, but they wanted to find the color so that's why they're red in the film.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so a lot of different
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: things that were or weren't adapted from, I mean, really, it's a franchise that's going back almost a century.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you feel bad about it.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Bound and his original novels.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: But getting back to this movie, I thought it was fine.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, not as good as the first movie, but I thought it was fine.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have too many issues with it.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yes, certain parts could have been maybe flesh out a little more, but it ends on a,
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that's a fun, but it ends on a good strong note, just the idea of the relationship between the two leads and for good, that song and what happens afterwards.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I thought it was, I thought it was all right, okay.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_04]: Sorry, just make it more critique really quick.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I put a couple of them.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_04]: But the main one I have as well is as soon as Elfable learns her sister died.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: She basically is no reaction like bro.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: A house is fell on your sister.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_04]: And she's like then fighting with Glenda playfully right after.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, your sister died.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, why are you, you know?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: The reaction is delays, let's say.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_04]: But I did like the reaction from Glindo and Madame Morvil when she tells like Madame Morvil, I figured it out that you caused the, you know what I mean, like Gorilla Grande's acting surprised me a lot, so for both films.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, okay, okay, good.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_05]: That sounds about sticks to landing on there, so okay, pretty.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, just right, next, a long standing franchise with some ups and downs, throughout the years.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_05]: But the latest entry in the, I guess, Predator, I, I suppose franchise, let's call it a franchise, is a Predator Bannon.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_05]: So, um,
- 16:51[SPEAKER_05]: Here, it's Clark, it was a standalone movie almost, but it's the same director who did pray, which was a couple years back, to pretty.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_05]: good reviews around.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_05]: Here we follow deck, a young outcasts, predator, or yavcha, is sent to a hostile planet to prove himself to his tribe, hunting an apex creature.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_05]: He crush lands and then kind of hasn't an alliance with a damage android from the way in Utahny.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_05]: corporation from the experts, not just the alien franchises, but both navigate this alien landscape and a form of bond and face the existential threats that are long the way.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_05]: It's, I think, mean.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_05]: besides our predator, it's Ellie finding as the android.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_05]: So it kind of a buddy but he kind of road movie almost in the predator kind of like framework.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_05]: This is a hard one to
- 18:07[SPEAKER_05]: to expect from this initially from the trailers, but I got to say pleasantly surprised by this.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_05]: I actually did, and you know, you kind of like I said for the years, there's been more.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_05]: Mrs. then hits or hitting their mark upon the pun with these franchise so when you go in move no expectations but maybe you know adding the trailer was like I'll start to warm to it but it's actually an enjoyable film actually um great kudos to her
- 18:42[SPEAKER_05]: Ellie Fanning on this, Richard, what do you do with this?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's interesting because I think I mean the minority here because I know that this movie has been enjoyed by a lot of people around the world for some reason.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the start with is true and Ellie Fanning is amazing in this movie.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: To be honest, she's definitely for me the best part of the movie.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, she's only supporting, she's playing the supporting character.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: And my friend comes from the main character with always on screen, not 100% of the time.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: So that's my main issue, obviously.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why I'm not sure it's in my opinion.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's a great character movie.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm telling you why I'm such in the mind, I feel like I'm in the minority about the whole franchise because one of the movies that I'm guessing predator fans hate the most is predators, I think,
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: and the Lawrence Beach Burn, I actually enjoy a lot of this movie, and I still like it, even to rewatch it.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, and that explains why I don't like much about the Predator characterization here.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: I truly believe that Predator, since the Trots of the Game Movie, is supposed to be dumb.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's dumb movies, but are supposed to be just full action, and you have a Predator,
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: And then you're only here to kill people, and that's it.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like the craziest alien in the universe, who is almost invincible, and that should be the top, the glots of all movies have to stop something that is invincible, that is the best killing machine ever.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why I enjoy Predator with Trasninger.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I enjoy the one we've launched,
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: The choice of the guy who wrote the movie is to make it like, actually, is someone that you can almost relate to, I guess.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: Or is actually almost a, as human problems with his parents.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought it was that way, but it was a joke sometimes.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what, at some point, I think it makes a joke by the way.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's trying to have some sense of humor and is a friend with the kids slash and droid.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think what am I watching?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I truly believe, and that's only on the opinion.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: But I truly believe that the Disney influence on these franchises to make everything more nicer and cool or whatever, but not as frightening as these things used to be.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm thinking about alien with terrible TV show but we had a couple of months ago.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: where the same happened to Xenomorph, almost a different way, but again, the adding Xenomorph is now it's definitely not frightening and speaking, what's going to be next?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I really really didn't like the categorization of this monster of cinema that's in this movie.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Every time it wasn't screened, every time it was doing something or even talking, what the hell is happening?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_05]: I guess it is a bit of a characterization that's going because obviously it's he suffers the I guess the murder of his brother from his father who's not very accepting This sounds like a soap opera but this is all part of me pretty tough So proper actually happens in the preamble so and he's going through
- 22:28[SPEAKER_05]: uh depression or remorse as diagnosed by early fanning um a lot of stuff going on here that you'd see in Disney film and character arc yes um Andrew how had this sit for you because this is definitely a lot of tonal dimension now are getting with usually movie monsters now
- 22:54[SPEAKER_05]: Did you actually enjoy this from the straight off anyway, or did it really did do too much for you, Andrew?
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, I'd definitely enjoyed it.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: I like the world building and expansion because we never really saw that side of things except in like the expand of materials like maybe the novels or the comics.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm trying to remember if you've been heard the word,
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: and then any of the other movies or any maybe it was mentioned briefly, but I think it's more I'm expanding universe.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: But here you find the guys you have to see.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: The, you know, what's what's that world is like, what that species is like.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so I like the world building.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of was thinking like, okay, they're trying to weld the kind of do arc welding with the
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: the sense, which again was something that was, I think first really talked about, I mean, it's type out a while, but more recently on Alien Earth, so I'm wondering, they're trying to do some kind of cinematic universe with that.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe, maybe in fact, but I think for this movie, I've always find, um,
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: Again, different vantage point, focusing on the youtcha, what it's like to them, what the rules and the cast and what their society is like and having the human looking characters be sort of the antagonist this time around.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: In this case, it's since who were creative by humans.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, I thought it was fine.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I did, my main only thing is, is that I thought I was planning was all right, I mean, she'd played the two different roles, Sophia, and Tessa, I guess, those two sense.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I guess she kept saying the word, the Alcho over and over again, which kind of sort of, this way she kept saying it is sort of like, she'll do it, I guess, I don't know.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I was like kind of got used to it, it was sort of like, okay.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, no, I thought it was fine.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm kind of curious whether they're going to go from here.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: They do, without spoiling the ending, it does seem like they're trying to allude to having some kind of larger thing going on.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_05]: Almost like, you know, a godfather's of the galaxy, but we've predicted and pectown.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_05]: I kind of see, I know.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_05]: Honestly, I mean, if you're going to rank them, I'd just say the first movie is,
- 25:40[SPEAKER_05]: the best one because there will be movies, but this was basically a done, a very tight, very primal, and well shot, good charisma from the leads, and a scary attempt, you know, because he was very much undiluted, this is, you know, hunting and killing, and this is...
- 25:59[SPEAKER_05]: different apex predators, but how you can't keep maybe doing that over and over again.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_05]: Having said that, there is a great animated, I think, spin off of killers or, yeah, clip killers, which is what it does is that scenario about over different periods of time, you know, it's like,
- 26:22[SPEAKER_05]: man out or man out or man out I guess one more who if depending on the character that they are interacting with so some it does better without talking basically these these these kind of movies um but then how do you keep doing that I guess when you got that Disney umbrella you they have to in there you know in the MMO they have to evolve it or make it
- 26:50[SPEAKER_05]: a bigger franchise or, you know, as a pill as many as possible, but yeah, maybe it dilutes it too much.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_05]: It's enjoyable as it is as a B movie, but, you know, we don't want to see this continue in its same vein, I don't know.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_05]: But I enjoyed it.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_05]: It's not something you can really put too much thought behind, honestly, but, um,
- 27:11[SPEAKER_05]: I think it does it well.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_05]: Explained itself as well.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_05]: Things, which you don't happen in movies a lot, why this happens, why it actually doesn't exist.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_05]: There is four in why things happen.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_05]: I enjoyed it, but where it goes from here.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_05]: Who knows?
- 27:29[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_05]: Next.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_05]: Uh... Burgonia.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_05]: Now, this is a... Garca.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_05]: Conspiracy.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_05]: Conspiracy obsessed.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_05]: Kind of like framework of a CEO of a big pharmaceutical company.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_05]: is maybe under the suspicion that she's actually an alien plotting of destruction.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_05]: So two characters, I think Don and his cousin, I can just kidnap her and subject to experiments to try and, I guess, extract a confession out of her, come on,
- 28:12[SPEAKER_05]: I guess this kind of comedy, it's got, uh, I think in the, in the, Emma Stone as a, this CEO character, um, quite intriguing premise, um, James, our funds, no, our funds are, Andrew, you both saw this, um, is it, does it, uh, quite intriguing, does it, as interesting as it pans out?
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's, it's entertaining.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you kind of summarized it very well.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically a couple of knuckleheads that had a mission, which is to give that end the stone with the CEO, a company and quite, like, I don't know, she has a cold exterior.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: And they take her hostage, and I'm not hostage with her.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's, I think there are castions and the leader, it's G.C.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Planons, who is convinced that C.S.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: and A.L.N.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: and the movie is basically he's trying to,
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: make her confess that she's an alien with everything seems a little bit Michael Gondry, the way that it's very homemade.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: You think like this guy is totally nuts, because he has, he doesn't have the most, let's say, sophisticated lab in his basement.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's very, or anything.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you didn't, the real
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: And well, that's something that you've got a movie.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it keeps you entertained all the time.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: In the end, you got an answer to that question.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird because it's Jorgos Lantimos.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's quite enough Jorgos.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: One of the most commercial, maybe, maybe, films of Jorgos.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I like it.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think it should be, for example, lemonade for best picture or nothing.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_05]: Um, this was, this was a feature release, or is this actually on a streaming.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's here, it's here to cinema.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_05]: Cinema, right?
- 30:48[SPEAKER_05]: Um, Andrew, what do you think?
- 30:51[SPEAKER_05]: It's, uh, it's that comedy I'm guessing the vein is kind of like.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_05]: So it was like,
- 30:56[SPEAKER_05]: Kings of Comedy or something.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_00]: The thing is, is that it's actually remake of a Korean film called Save the Green Planet, or these types of title in English.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: And both versions have the same basic plot and the same plot beats.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think the main difference is that the original Korean film
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: is like maybe a half hour longer, and has more, I mean, because it's longer, but there's like a whole additional sub-tlawed in the Korean version of the some police officers and their investigation of this kidnapping.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like a whole thing in the original film.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: And this, I guess US-based or maybe multinational remake,
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just more, um, a lot more fake focused on the, uh, the kidnappers, and the, um, snappy and, uh, you know, not a lot of, uh, not a lot of side characters really, uh, so another thing is that in the original, uh, kidnappers were this guy and his sort of girl
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: the sky and his developmentally disabled cousin, so that kind of changes the dynamics a little bit.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's also a character in dispersion that's played by, uh, kind of NASA's name, Stavros.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Ias, uh, he's from the US.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's a comedian.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: I guess he has a following
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: So he has apparently a lot of people who are interested in this film because of this person, but he, this small, small, small, small chia's played, but pronounced correctly.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: He plays a police officer who has some kind of history with the character played by Jesse Plyman's.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: So there's like something there that,
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say what it is, but, you know, that makes it a little bit more, you know, so I think something interesting there a little bit more unique to that.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, so yeah, I mean, there's I mean, this was a fine film as it was.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: I guess the issue for me is, because I already
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't like, the taking it back by certain things like people who've never seen the original and are just seeing this and this particular story for the first time are like, oh wow, you know, and I was like, yeah, I mean, you know, again, some differences, but the same basic plot and plot beats.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I wasn't as surprised at things, but
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: that being said, there are some things that were a little bit unique that was like, okay, I think what they're going for here.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, it's, again, a fine film by itself.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Although, as I said, if you've seen the original Korean film, it may not be maybe as interesting as if you were you know, completely new to this story.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: If the first time.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't know.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's just me.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_05]: Next, another adaptation of a classic story, especially on this winter months, his Frankenstein, will get more deterrent.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_05]: It's the obviously doing his version of the classic
- 34:51[SPEAKER_05]: grief in box on a project to create new life and it takes a form of a powerful creature from and unfortunately this secretion of science and horror kind of like grows beyond his control so it's obviously the
- 35:15[SPEAKER_05]: Let me show you classic.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_05]: It's been done so many times before obviously.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_05]: So it was interesting to see what this director would translate to on the screen.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_05]: So I mean, there's love expectation when this.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_05]: title was announced.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_05]: Um, it, uh, and so it came out recently on Netflix.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_05]: Um, I saw this, a phonzo James and Richard you also saw this.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_05]: Um, I guess I'll say it right off the bat.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_05]: I found it a bit lacking in what maybe from his vision, what I can
- 35:55[SPEAKER_05]: maybe what as in visually or his little touch on it because we have seen this so many times before and I found it a bit pedestrian.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_05]: What about you guys?
- 36:07[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think for me?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_05]: It did remind me, I'll just add this.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_05]: If there was one, we've kind of branded it a few years ago.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_05]: Again, you know, nice production values and everything.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_05]: I couldn't see much difference between this and this version, except the question was about it here, but am I wrong on this Richard, what did you, was your take on this prank as well?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not hyped before this.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to actually add anything because
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think it kind of sound up, no, it's true, I think you've sound up my thoughts.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's true, actually, if you adapt to fucking Stein, which is a very famous book, and there's so many adaptations, you might want to add something to make your version different from
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of look like actually the perfect guy to adapt function time when you think about it, because obviously you have this gothic atmosphere and it is set in the Victorian era, I'm guessing.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: So in a way, you would think that with a guy who did
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: the L-boy movie is already the crimson peak also it will be actually when you look at what you don't before, even ship a water is the guy actually with perfect to do a Frankenstein adaptation and visually it's true visually actually I think that it's truly a beautiful movie a perfect movie almost and
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and almost even the Frankenstein creature, by Jacob, you know, these quite interesting because you not only see strength, but also is, let's say, a human part, we saw whatever you want to call it.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the problem that I had was the fact
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: As you said, there is, for me, nothing new under the sun, let's say, but actually I don't identify anything new in this movie, but I didn't know anything about before.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that we were too long for what he was trying to tell.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: And if we go to spoilers, I mentioned in the chat we discussed that actually I think
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say the love triangle between the old-scar is a character, a bit of a kind shine.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: The creature of a kind shine, and I forgot the name of the actress of the character, played by this girl.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think this part was not developed enough, so I'm thinking honestly, we move it completely from the script, and that would be fine, actually, but story could have worked to me.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's a shame, because I think they were trying to set up
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: It was almost nothing there, so perhaps you could have said after an hour with the movie, I don't know, but yeah, let's see, that's my opinion.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I mean Oscar Isaacs is basically, it's pouring shoulders as Dr. Frankenstein, so it's, it's, I don't think he quite has that.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_05]: charisma or the way he portrays it, maybe.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_05]: Ironically, I think he's better in another film like this, which he plays the creator, which is like DX Mach Machicela, Machicela.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_05]: DX Machina.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_05]: Well, where he, again, he's another creator, but there is just absolutely strange charisma to him when he's he's creating in that case, a modern AI robot.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_05]: But, um, Afonzo, Andrew,
- 40:10[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think about this?
- 40:12[SPEAKER_05]: That's a serene adaptation.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think people really, some people really like it.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's been very popular this past few weeks.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't enjoyed it quite a bit.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the sets, the costumes, everything that is technical is stop-knocked.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I also, I don't know, it's not the very complicated story, but I think it's well, it's well told that the Jack Jacob of the Lordy has does a very good Frankenstein's creature.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, it just, it was funny to me how every person that crossed paths with Oscar Isaac was always
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: Something was doing something bad.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: He was a monster that he had how could he dare to create life all the time on the time?
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: the monster at some point tells him but you don't listen to me and I have to say it to you many times that I heard and why did you do this to me and I like it, not don't worry don't worry because if you haven't told him a hundred times, some of the people in the film had it already.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was, it was, it is, I saw it in cinema as in it's it's in spectacle.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I like it.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, did you see it in the middle of my injury, or did you see on Netflix?
- 41:45[SPEAKER_05]: Because I think it was almost a simultaneous video.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was in the middle of for a couple of weeks and then made it swayed a Netflix.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: I saw it in Netflix.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I pretty much liked it.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: I know a few complaints that I did see a couple of days
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: original novel from a couple of centuries ago.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's going to happen.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: But it seems like here in this version, uh, fair, uh, Guillermo del Toro, they took, uh, ideas from not just in 1931 film, but also from Hammer, from Mianfrocknstein, Frankenstein, uh, or even Toho, sort of.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: But it does seem like it wasn't just an adaptation from this, it's like an adaptation from different adaptations and kind of made its own little thing.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you have some basic stuff there, but also some stuff that's maybe a little bit more unique, like as already been mentioned, I guess, but you mentioned the love triangle.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that really hasn't happened in another bridge.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: Also speaking of that,
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: In most versions, it's I guess Elizabeth is her name is the fiance of Victor Frankenstein and here she's a fiance of his brother and there's no really connection between the two of them.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: What was like, oh, okay, this is Dr. Frankenstein's Victor Frankenstein's fiancee, and here in this version, you know, he's really nothing turrets that may be offended first and then not even that much.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was a little bit more unique.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's something that's been done in other versions where those two characters don't really have
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, actually, I mean, not in any kind of romantic one anyway, except maybe in Dr. Frankenstein's mind.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: So speaking of which, me and God, yeah, I thought you did decent job playing the two roles as Elizabeth and also as the mother of
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Dr. Frankenstein, like in the flashback scenes.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that was me a Goth as well with this makeup.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess props go to the makeup people as well.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: For that, and I'm for a quick hobbyist.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so it's like she was good.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I would have liked to see more crystal bulbs.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: He was really good.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he kind of had an interesting story there,
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: much of a matter of certain points certainly.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm in curious.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think also the characterization of Dr. Frankenstein in this version is a little bit more similar to maybe the curse of Frankenstein going back to again hammer.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it's maybe different from people who aren't used to that, they're thinking
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe like Dr. Frank Assignus sort of like this misunderstood genius or someone who's like, he means well, but he winds up doing things that are bad.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not quite what happens here.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe initially he means well, but eventually he just kind of goes his own whatever,
- 45:46[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, next, another adaptation or rather over.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_05]: The book, I'm Stephen King, again, I can almost say, a remake of a movie, it was done originally, I guess, in back in the 80s, we've unfortunately, it was the running man.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_05]: It's a dystopian future where the running man is a brutal television show where contestants must survive.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_05]: I'll be a period of time here for 30 days, I think, while being hunted by assassins and members of the public, in an effort to win the prize money and to save his chronically ill daughter.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_05]: So I think it's Glenn Powell, I think, and man in the moment in the title of this time.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't really just watch, I think, yesterday because they're showing on TV here, the original Money Man, me, we've won, it's rich, which is a very tight B movie, but we're getting leaning into that game show aspect.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_05]: over a much shorter period of time, like say maybe 90 minutes, so someone's getting real time, and it's very much this WDF WrestleMania vibe to it.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_05]: Quite fun, fitting in a lot of science fiction tropes about TV and all that.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_05]: I was wondering what this would add to it.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_05]: Is it a good adaptation or is it an axe fun moving its own right?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_05]: Richard you saw this Andrew, Richard
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: For the record, I haven't read the book, so that's something that would be interesting to check, because in a way, okay, so yeah, I'm sorry, I'm thinking about something else.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: The movie, the 2020 Paris version, for me, as less impact than the 1980s movie.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: When you watch the trust negative version of the movie, we are in an era of in time where it definitely looks like a dystopia or crazy future where you would have a TV show where people will literally kill each other to make money.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: If you, now by releasing a new version in 2025, it's not completely crazy to think, or far-fetched actually to imagine actually that a show like this would exist.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: if a show like this running man was going to be released anyway in the world next year people say okay why not you know so i don't think i think what i'm trying to say that actually but it doesn't scared uh new generations to watch a movie like this thinking oh my god is this really what's gonna happen in 20 years from now or no it's actually just a description of what's going on nowadays because you have crazy tv realities nowadays already
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that's actually the first problem for me, but by refusing a running man movie in 2025.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: Therefore, moving itself, I think that it's decent.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_02]: But when you think it got right, you would expect more from him.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: And also, I have no idea what is the genre of the movie almost
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: As you said, it's supposed to be a B-movie in V8's, and it was a B-movie in V8's.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: Do a B-movie now, kind of what I tell the Predator of again.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: Do a B-movie, just do a two-hour guy running around the streets, killing or trying to avoid to be killed.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, here it tries to be a lot of things, which I respect very enough, but then be a TV show.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_02]: I was thinking about all the movie I think a TV show would have been much better.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's supposed to be here, it's supposed to be an action movie, but also it has a huge political message about
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: revolution about the corporate and a big corporate TV business actually but all the world and the the the poor people actually was to to go on a riot etc and you think yeah there is something here like a social message etc.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting message nowadays where all these corporations actually are on the world meeting Amazon or
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: or Elon Musk, we couldn't be actually an interesting operator to do, but not enough timing in the two hour 15 minutes.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I was thinking, my God, a TV show, like that would have been perfect.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_02]: Fortunately, I think it's trying to be too much in a space of too little time.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm, it's my opinion.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_05]: and crew, you saw this as well, did enjoy it?
- 50:52[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, how has it compared to the original, because I'm sure you've seen the the earlier version, we've watched it, I had to do this work, or this is not, it didn't seem to seem maybe a bit redundant, even, but
- 51:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's for Dundance, maybe maybe nowadays because of what Richard was saying where you want to see something like this, you don't need to see it in a movie, just see it in me a life.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's not necessarily a good thing.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I think even Ryan George wanted to pitch meeting, so he's talking about this.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: reality show on Amazon for Mr.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: Beast, the internet personality, and they were kind of referencing that the idea of things kind of being pretty dystopian as they were.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, the original film
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not the original, but the original, the earlier film version was sort of like you were saying to be action movie, this version I think is like trying to adapt the story from Stephen King or Richard Bach and whatever you wrote it under and make it almost been on at the same time.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: Again, trying to go close to the novel, but also with all differences.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: And some of those are due to pragmatic reasons because you can't do the original ending.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't do the book ending in the earlier film version just because, you know, that's more silly action film.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't do it here because of similarities to a real life tragedy.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: And that's another thing, too, is I kind of felt the ending was kind of trying to have both ways, trying to go for like the original ending, I mean the original ending from the novel and the original film ending to something very different and try to have it both ways.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I was very confusing if you're watching it.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as far as other stuff in the film, uh, and basically have a different character this time around, same, same name, a Ben Richards, but he's more of like a family man.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's trying to do something with his family.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's not some fugitive, some,
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: top action hero type.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he is trying to be an action hero, but not to the extent that Arnold Schwalzen Schwarzenegger was in the 1987 film.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: Having said that, you do have a lot of nods to that film.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: And the currency that exists in this reality, you have Arnold space on the
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: you know, on the paper currency.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, I guess they know that people are familiar with that version of it.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, I just find it funny how people aren't as familiar with us even King of the story as they normally are.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: They just know that the film, uh, does that's a lot of their thing?
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I thought there were some moments that were all right, but I don't know that film
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: I thought for a couple reasons, one is that the hunters aside from
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: was this name, McCone, the guy with his face covering, he was the only hunter that really had any kind of, you recall personality.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_00]: In the 1980s, 1970 film, the hunters all had these unique traits.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's only to give Arnold, you know, one liners to say, but here you don't really have
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: they didn't really stand out and we'd like to know more about them.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing is that there was already a king at a Richard Bachman, whatever adaptation earlier this year.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: I talked out last time, the long walk, also dystopian, and that I think was a better film, um, better
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: Also same kind of idea taking like a reality competition Dudley and Really scary and Here I just was like yeah It could be entertaining could be scary.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of like But it doesn't I don't know it seems to try a lot of different things and Some of them were okay, but something didn't quite stick.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I'd seen more of certain characters like Katie
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: a Brian's character or a common domain go that as the host you see a little bit of him I mean I guess isn't the main villain this time around but yeah I wish I had seen some of these side characters more but yeah I mean some moments work but I don't know I guess I kind of feel like and especially after the long walk which was another really good dystopian
- 55:55[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_05]: Next.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_05]: Now you see me.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_05]: Now you don't.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_05]: Again, I suppose a de facto other franchise because it's done, okay, the previous entries.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_05]: This is the events of Rose, the adventures of the Four Horseman.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_05]: These are stage magicians who are frail and audiences worldwide with
- 56:23[SPEAKER_05]: real stage magic so it's basically it's like an ocean sea level with magicians but you have like Jesse Asimberg and Woody Harerson as these commandstays here they re-unite as they join a new generation of illusionists to
- 56:45[SPEAKER_05]: pull off their most daring heist yet, the heart diamond for my crop, crime, family, twists, turns, illusions, heists, exceptions, the hand is possibly quicker than the eye.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_05]: Were you
- 57:09[SPEAKER_05]: This, this paper Richard, I know you're a fan of me.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: A fan is a strong word.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_02]: I just said, I, I do admit it.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: I did enjoy these movies back in a day and I still enjoy this movie.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_02]: But you can say that and you can also say that it's full of flaws and it has some terrible writing, etc.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: So you see, sometimes, I'm kissing every one of us as some kind of movie or movies, but you know that's terrible, but you still enjoy them.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of them.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, for some reason, I just don't understand that to us.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: I believe that actually when the first one was released, at a long time ago, and I think it's like almost 16 years ago, it's.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was a bit original, because I say, yeah, a group of magicians doing high so whatever, that's kind of funny and also trying to help the poor or whatever, like, Robin Hood or whatever, but what's kind of funny.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: And the chemistry between the characters and the actors was pretty good.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_02]: The J.J. hasn't very good with the others, and especially videos, those little events, and they do work together very well.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: The second one was already kind of
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: So when this one was announced, I say, do you really need the third one?
- 58:36[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, the answer is no.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need the third one, especially when they are all in their 40s, or would the ISO is in the 60s, whatever?
- 58:44[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need it.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_02]: If you follow these characters, because characters, well, I mean, you've seen once twice by stories, you cannot do everything.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, obviously, yeah, and the real thing is money.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, money.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, the movie is about trying to set up the future of his franchise.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of a lot of times nowadays, it tries to work on nostalgia and fan nostalgia for only for the 2010s, I mean, nostalgia from the guys watching the first two movies and also
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: what's supposed I'm guessing to be like, you know, like in they are going to actually do the future of them and we don't see any more of Mark and follow or Morgan Freeman or with their identities and we're going to see only these three guys and because they definitely take the center stage of this new movie I want us to go into spoilers because they are a lot of twists, the scenario makes no sense whatsoever, I'm not going to
- 59:56[SPEAKER_02]: going to the details.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, I'm trying when I think my train home, I was thinking, okay, that makes no sense, that makes no sense.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's now you see me every time it doesn't make sense.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's real magic.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's not magic that you see on stage.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Harry Potter magic.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_02]: But you if you accept all these things again, just seeing these characters is kind of fun.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and these new characters actually are decent, I'm guessing.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_02]: The best part of this young generation of magicians is the guy at the bottom of his name, sorry.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: terrible with names is the guy actually was in the holdovers and he is actually kind of the leader, but not really leader, again not spoilers, but yeah and he is really interesting as an actor and I'm guessing that this guy I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is actually hired for something big in the future, like a blockbuster franchise, whatever, not now you see me or buildovers, now actually he's kind to make a name up his sense himself, sorry, so yeah he is very good, yeah, but yeah
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, again, it's not the movie, but that recommends if you like movies, but it's just a fun time for an hour and a half or one hour and 40 minutes.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_05]: I think it has a kind of like that period of that, like it is, like I said, it's Oceans 11.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_05]: There's a lot of always, sort of in the first two movies, there are twists, turns, double crosses.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's quite funny meeting the characters.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's always ends with a 10 minutes explanation.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_02]: and you think, how is it possible?
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_05]: I want to almost believe that, oh, this is actually how you would do it, or it's in camera, but as you said, it's a film, does it kind of like, is it such a disconnect that, no, it couldn't really happen.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_05]: There was always a kind of that tangibility of feasibility, that, oh, this is how it's so, it seemed like a well fought out plot, but I don't know if this is the case.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_05]: in this one, Andrew, you saw this as well.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_05]: Would I be disappointed or, I mean, because I thought the other two were okay.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, they are enjoyable.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_00]: I would say this is better than number two, but not quite number one, but that's not really saying a whole lot.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just because, I mean, I thought the franchise was entertaining at first,
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what's weird to me because I didn't, I mean, Richard was talking about nostalgia for the 2010s.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's not that long ago.
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_00]: And the idea of doing a legacy sequel, it's one thing if you're doing a legacy sequel for something in the 1980s, 1990s, maybe the early part of the millennium, you have some that now.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_00]: This franchise started in 2013.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_00]: With all due respect, that's not that long, though.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_00]: So why are you suddenly doing this legacy sequel?
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_00]: And OK, these are the old characters, and we're trying to bring the nuke.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_00]: This franchise has been around for 12 years.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's not that long.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I guess do they feel the original actors are too expensive to work with, or they try to move them out, or I don't know.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, that being said, a couple pointers I just want to mention, you mentioned already that Dominic Sessa, he was in the holdovers.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was good here as well.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: The best part of the new bunch.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_00]: I had him Arianna Greenblatt and and just a Smith.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the new bees.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought they were generally good, but Dominic Sesson, in particular, does a good job.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's nice to see him get other work since the whole dovers.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_00]: Also, the film is directed by someone, I guess he didn't direct the other films in this franchise, but this one is directed by Rubin Flasher, who, by the way, also directed the zombie land films, which also had,
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: start for a while.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_00]: We'll start Woody Hours and Jesse Eisenberg.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I wonder if maybe these share a cinematic universe.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_00]: That would be interesting.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Befand and now you see me.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_00]: That would be interesting.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I wasn't too crazy about this film.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I guess at a certain point, you start being like, okay, how these tricks work and how this sandwich's like really interesting at first, but then it's just like, okay, you know, you know, okay, they're just gonna make themselves disappear or disappear out of the situation.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_00]: There are some moments where they bring in,
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_00]: with something happens and it's like oh okay and again you're looting to a franchise that has been around that long so it's not like a big deal that you're looting to something I'm not gonna say more about that um also I don't know kind of curious if anyone from South Africa has weighed in on this film
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but anyway, from South Africa's waitin because I was wondering about the accent that Rosemann Pike does in the film.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_00]: She's the antagonist.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and she does what's supposed to be like a really thick South African sounding accent.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just kind of curious how that act.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know she's a good actress.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just, but I'm not going to have passed judgment.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just curious anyone from South Africa has anything to say about her accent in the film.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's all say on that.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, okay, she's very campy in her role.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, that's, that's, that's maybe what it is, too.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, go to playing straight characters, you know, serious characters here.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's more campy, but that's what's made with the franchise.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess, you know, they had, um, other actors for the villains and the other films.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, anyway, um, I guess some moments, some things I did appreciate, like I said, Dominic Sessa seeing him get more work.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's good here, but overall, I just don't know if it's really my type of film, so I don't know.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, then.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_05]: Well, it seems more or less part of the course, but I think comes on every good time of the year where you're kind of in the mood for these nice kind of like, like how I did comedy keepers kind of thing.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, well, okay, thanks for that roundup.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_05]: I'll reset release it as thanks Richard.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_05]: Andrew, now Fondo, and a well.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_05]: Don't forget home.
