- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So let me ask you a question.
- 0:32How many times have you tried to carry something from your car
- 0:38from one location to another? You've got quote UN quote, lots
- 0:42of stuff, whatever that might be, whether it's groceries or,
- 0:46you know, just stuff you're carrying around.
- 0:48Like for me here on the farm, it happens constantly.
- 0:50But this morning there was a very clear distinction in this.
- 0:53So I thought, oh this is very funny.
- 0:56So I am I am 100% guilty 100% of the time of trying to carry too
- 1:02much stuff. Let me just put that out there.
- 1:05That is just how my brain works. Now.
- 1:08Anyone who follows me regularly knows I like to get steps in.
- 1:11So I walk a lot. Like 20 to 30,000 steps a day is
- 1:15normal. So why would I care how many
- 1:18trips I made? You might be asking yourself
- 1:20that question, right? I asked myself that question
- 1:22this morning because as I'm leaving to do all the chores and
- 1:25get everybody settled in and get everything going, get the girls
- 1:28out and go through it. I have this little routine that
- 1:31I run through for all the farm stuff that I have to do.
- 1:35And feeding the birds is one of them.
- 1:39And it's very funny to me because I have to go out and I
- 1:43have to fill these different bird feeders for different
- 1:46things. Like I've got these Bluebirds
- 1:48and I've got a mix of regular normal birds that you would see,
- 1:52Cardinals, finches, all of that. And then I've got some specialty
- 1:55ones that pass through here through the summer,
- 1:58hummingbirds, whatnot. And so those need different
- 2:01foods. So as I'm leaving and I've got
- 2:04to carry a ladder, let me be very clear about this.
- 2:07I've got a ladder I have to carry every day because the
- 2:10flight deck is way up top. So we have like one of those
- 2:13Wild Birds Unlimited flight decks and it's way up top.
- 2:16And we've got like 12344 feeders besides the flight deck and some
- 2:22suet feeders because I've got about four different kinds of
- 2:25woodpeckers that show up. So here I am, I'm getting ready
- 2:29to go out. I've got all my little
- 2:30containers filled up and ready to pour it.
- 2:33I've got a bird feeder that I'm swapping out because it rained
- 2:37so much. So I've got to swap them out
- 2:39because we all know if we feed the birds that the bird food
- 2:42gets caked in there if there's too much.
- 2:43So I had to swap one of them out.
- 2:45And I've got the ladder and I've got this new feeder and all
- 2:49these cups. So if you can picture these big
- 2:52Giant, like yogurt, giant yogurt containers, like the ones you'd
- 2:55get from Costco, I've got like five of those filled with stuff.
- 2:59And here I go to walk out the door and I'm struggling and I've
- 3:04got a cut on the inside of my right hand, which is the one
- 3:07that's carrying the ladder and the bird feeder.
- 3:10I'm in big rubber boots and shorts as I'm walking out the
- 3:13door. And I'm struggling with it.
- 3:15And I'm to go that far. Like, it's not like I'm trekking
- 3:18to, you know, Alaska and back. It's just a short distance but
- 3:23I'm getting annoyed because I've got too too much stuff in my
- 3:26hands and I don't want to carry it all.
- 3:28And I start laughing at myself and I'm like why am I doing
- 3:32this? Why don't I just make 2 trips?
- 3:34And immediately in my head, it's like, because you can do this,
- 3:37Because it's my brain to say no, no, no, you can do this.
- 3:40And yes, I can do it, but should I do it is a better question.
- 3:44So I stop and I'm like, no, no, no.
- 3:46Steps are also important. Conflict of outcomes here.
- 3:50Think about this. So I put the stuff down.
- 3:53I went and set the ladder up, came back and then got my stuff.
- 3:57And I only motivated myself to do that by pointing out that the
- 4:01steps were important. Getting steps in is always
- 4:05important, and as soon as I remembered that, as soon as I
- 4:08put that to the forefront, I was able to get past my
- 4:11stubbornness. Now, the whole point of this is
- 4:14when you are doing something, whatever that something may be,
- 4:18it is important to recognize you probably have overlapping
- 4:22beliefs that are going to get in the way so or, or outcomes or
- 4:28drivers and they're going to get in the way.
- 4:30And once you choose the right driver, things become a lot
- 4:33easier. Because the 2nd that I let that
- 4:35go, I was willing to just go ahead, finish up, put the stuff
- 4:39I needed down and do it because I was the priority.
- 4:42The hierarchy of my needs and wants in that moment shifted.
- 4:46So when you can do that, it really helps a lot.
- 4:50But you have to have the the ability to just stop and pause
- 4:53and laugh at yourself and say, OK, I've got some conflicting
- 4:56things going on here. Is this more important than
- 4:58that? Get your hierarchy of needs in
- 5:00order. And then all of a sudden things
- 5:02become easier. Now, while this is a simple
- 5:04example, I wanted to use it because this shows up everywhere
- 5:09for us as human beings, everywhere, everywhere,
- 5:12everywhere, everywhere. So you have to think in terms
- 5:15of, all right, do I have any other needs that are going to
- 5:16come into conflict with this? And then all of a sudden, boom,
- 5:19you're like, all right, good. I can, I can work that.
- 5:22I can get past that. So start thinking in terms of
- 5:26hierarchy and you won't run into the trouble.
- 5:28All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:31see you tomorrow. Bye.
