- Roc: What's going on everyone? Welcome back to Jersey Swap Podcast. You got Rock on the mic here. I got C dub watching over right now. And we had a weekend. C Dub: Guardian Angel. Roc: We had a weekend of football, boys and girls. Week five C Dub: We sure did. Roc: in the books. We dub and I were both out on Saturday, so we didn't get to watch as much college ball. We I I was watching the games a little bit, but I think we're gonna pass up on the college minute for for today's episode, but let us know in the comments or text us individually. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: Anything on the IG, on any of our socials. Let us know if you you want more college minute 'cause I mean, I I watch all the games, but this past weekend I was a little busy. C Dub: Yeah, no, we were we we were two busy bees. But shout out Oklahoma flipping off the Texas sidelines. That was pretty cool. That was a cool video. That was cool. Roc: Yeah. So some good games though. Nonetheless. Some some some good games. my only note for the college minute is that the SEC is just chaos. It's chaos. It's any given any given Saturday for the SEC. Every C Dub: Yeah. It's insane. It's Roc: every team in that conference could beat any any team. C Dub: It's it's whoever's top dog just loses. You can just schedule loss Roc: Yeah. C Dub: them. It's it's crazy. Who you're the most high on just loses automatically. Which is cool. But makes it complicated. Roc: So yeah. So I mean we're gonna get right into the games from week five this week. We had some good football, we had some bad football, and then we got a good game tonight, the Bills versus the Rams, which you guys will hear on a little recap after the game later tonight. So we won't really dive that much into what we like, but we'll obviously have our our post up on socials for what picks we like by game time, so Let's jump C Dub: Show. Roc: right in. Week five. We started off Thursday night football. Bucks twenty four, Cowboys sixteen. And let me tell you, dub, and the fans of Jersey Swap, the Buccaneers, those dogs were barking, baby. Rock Rock's dog of C Dub: Woo! At least one of us hit, you know? At least one of us got it. Roc: the week. I put my stones on the line with the Owen four team, and they went out there C Dub: That was ooh. Roc: and won outright in Jerry World. So damn it, that boy Jalen Daniels. C Dub: That's the thing with an ON four team. It's like with the NFL, it's it's not a matter of if it's when a team gets a a a team like that gets a win. And they got a win. It was an amazing watch. I was lit. I was so lit. it was Roc: It's awesome. That C Dub: so much fun. yeah, Roc: Dude. C Dub: you just it was awesome. It was a great watch. I'm gonna be honest though, like, I we're seeing a lot of teams now. I don't know if it if I'm just more astute to it because we podcast now, or if it's really Just different this year, but there are a lot of teams. Like the only way a select amount of teams win is by a shootout. Like I can pick on my Roc: Yeah, I C Dub: I mean I could like we c we can get into it later because there are some teams that are similar to this. But I believe Roc: Yeah. C Dub: that I mean, Cowboys, one. Bears, another one. Lions, another one. We could probably name some more, like those are the ones that I thought of. Maybe the Bengals, I also said. But like Roc: And what what do those teams have in common? They all paid offensive guys that they don't have any money to spend C Dub: They did. They did. Roc: on defense. So the only way they can win is with shootouts. If you think about it, Cowboys are paying top dollar for Dak, CD, and Pickens, Javante, Jake Ferguson, obviously Bengals, you got Burrow, Chase and Higgins, who else said Lions, every single person on that offense, Goff, Gibbs, Amonra, J Mo's gonna get paid. I J Mo already got paid. Laporta paid like i when you spend that kind of money after the first contracts of all all the young studs that they have, if you spend all that money on offense, then obviously your defense is gonna be such such holes in your defense and the only way you can win is with shootouts. So yeah, I I I agree with that, Doug. That's a good C Dub: I mean, is it it but my thing is, is it like more this year than any other year? Or am I just more am I just more tapped in now? Roc: I think he's more locked in, honestly. Because the Bengals C Dub: Yeah, could be, could be. Roc: they've been like that for the the past like four years. Cowboys the last three years, the only way they win is shootouts. Lions that's that's the story of of this w of C Dub: That is. Yeah, no, that's true. Roc: this window of this window that they have is just their their defense is never right. So they the only way that they can win is putting up forty five, fifty points. But yeah, Jalen Daniels played played pretty well. He he did his thing, his second career start. I mean, he did enough. Bucky Irving went crazy. Hundred sixty five yards, nice little seventy two yard pop to start the second half. And that was kind of when the momentum was just like, All right, maybe the Bucs can do this. 'Cause it first C Dub: Yeah. Roc: half it was it was a little this is a good story, you know, a nice little primetime game. We're gonna have a good watch. And then it was turned in the second half of damn, the Bucs are about about to win C Dub: They're fighting Roc: this. C Dub: and they're crawling. You know, Bucky as a fantasy owner. that was a beautiful thing to see. I don't know who the Bucks play next, do you know off the top of your head? Roc: Off rep no I do not. C Dub: Okay. I mean they're supposed to get Baker back soon. Roc: Yeah, I don't know when exactly they're gonna get back 'cause they said originally it was three to six weeks 'cause it's a dislocated wrist or whatever it was. So C Dub: Yeah, yeah, finger or some sh something like that. Roc: They played at home against the Steelers next week. Which is definitely like a winnable game, honestly, in my opinion. C Dub: winnable game, but the Steelers have been looking good, so I guess we'll see where that goes. We'll talk about the Steelers later too. Roc: also w I also wouldn't even rush Baker back right now. You're still a one in four team. There's no point of rushing him back unless you think you can get a run at it r run at the playoffs with the division in in the South the division is always open. But J Jalen Daniels d done enough right now for me to feel comfortable if I'm a Bucks fan or Bucks like ownership, let him let him go out there and play a few more weeks. C Dub: Yeah, yeah, it's not scary. Not scary yet. No, for sure. But great game. Great game. Roc: Yeah, great game. following the Sunday morning we had another lunch Another London start, and I don't know if you guys could hear that, but Dub just rang the London bell. that sounded like Big Ben's clock tower. And let me tell ya, C Dub: it's it's Ringan. Roc: we had a good, ugly, fun finish in this London game. Jaguars C Dub: Yeah. Roc: nineteen, Eagles seventeen. And Dub, go ahead. What what do you what do you think? C Dub: My heart would break for Eagles fans if I like them. My heart would break 'cause it's one of those where you can get into the coaching, you can get into this, you can get into that, but I mean How much blame can you put on Siriani? I mean, it was Roc: I you put C Dub: you could put a lot, but at the same time, you Roc: I think you put a lot I think you put a lot of blame on him. C Dub: but like I d I think 99 out of a hundred times your special teams c like your coverage teams should not allow a free runner in the in today's kickoff rules to get that far. Roc: But we just saw it they just saw it bring to life with a divisional rival with the Cowboys when the Cowboys played the Ravens back in whatever they wherever they played, Rio de Janeiro. Brazil. Yeah. Like C Dub: In was that Brazil? In Brazil. Yeah. Roc: that was just brought to light. And then the week after, I forget C Dub: I guess. Roc: what game what game it was again. It the exact same thing happened to another in in another matchup of them, why didn't they kick it out of bounds? Or why didn't they kick why didn't C Dub: Yeah. Roc: they kick it in like into the end zone? So that's C Dub: Just do anything. Yeah, yeah. Roc: I I don't know, I feel like especially with Nick Siriani, if your job isn't he doesn't call plays on offense and he doesn't call plays on defense. So I feel like you kinda need to have the special teams locked in in those big moments. Those those big like this factor making moments you need your coach to be dialed in if he's not calling plays on offense or defense in his head somewhere else. So I I think a lot of blame could be put on him. But then again, it's Philly Philly fans. They wanted him fired when he was winning the Super Bowl, so C Dub: But then again, I mean, who thought the Eagles would keep it this close to? And without a run game. They had no run game. Roc: Yeah. Hats off to them. They they didn't even have barely enough people to field the team. They had no Saquon, C Dub: Who do they have? Dude. Roc: no no Schmidty. Shipley went down in the first half. Their offensive line shambles, we already talked about. I'm pretty sure the first play of the game on the kickoff, their starting linebacker, who's really their third string linebacker, got kicked out of the game. On the kickoff with the big penalty or whatever it was. C Dub: I forgot about that. I forgot about that. Yeah. Roc: So he was like their third stringer, but he's starting this week the last two weeks because of all the injuries. He got kicked out the game right off rip. So the fact that they were even in C Dub: Yeah, no for sure. Roc: it and that they they should have won that game, I I I texted Chris and I was like, dude, Philly's really gonna pull this one out the bag again. Like somehow, some C Dub: Yeah. Roc: way they're gonna find a way to walk out of here with a win. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: Hurts finished with two twenty passing yards, a touchdown. Nothing crazy, but nothing nothing bad. Trevor Lawrence went for 330, two touchdowns and interception, but it was just kind of like a so-so sloppy football. He had a few fumbles. C Dub: Yeah. Yeah. Roc: One of them lost, one of them recovered. But I think the biggest story is just Parker Washington. Dog. Dog. Six C Dub: Woo Dog Yeah. Roc: for one twenty and two tutties with that one handed catch to win the game, pretty much. C Dub: Yeah, yeah. Roc: On fourth and fourth and six, and they throw a bomb. That's C Dub: Yeah. Roc: that's stones right there. That's that's what you call. Making a play when C Dub: Yeah. Roc: when you when you need it. C Dub: And and Brent Strange also showed up too. He played a really really complete game there. Who I was looking at. Who I was making making notes on. and Trevor played well. Which makes me wonder, I mean, this is what the Eagles do. They make these games just close. Stupid close. He did. Yeah. Roc: Jalen Jalen Carter played out of his mind. He was pressuring every single play. Like nobody nobody could hold him. C Dub: Yeah. And we talked about it we we brushed upon it earlier about the Eagles offensive line. And like I saw Hertz is only sacked once. I I was like wondering how like what really is that stat misleading? I and I did some more research on it. he was pressured like fifty five percent of his dropbacks though. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: So I mean that line definitely has holes. It was a close game. I mean, if you're an Eagles fan, what do you make of this? Roc: Again, like with the NFC East still being open, like you you're your window's still there this year to go and win the division, obviously, and make the playoffs, which is what you want to do. But then after they traded Jurgens, you hear all this noise like, the Eagles are going to rebuild now. They're rebuilding. They're in a rebuild phase. Which I I I feel like's kinda crazy, but it's not like out of the realm. I guess you gotta play out the next two weeks and until trade deadline and see where you're at. If you're still at Two and three right now, if if you you trade deadline you're sitting there two and five, then it's not crazy to say, Hey, let's try and unload for some draft capital this year and just try and get right next year. But as C Dub: Yeah. Make some moves, know for sure. Roc: of right now though, I I think the division's so open that you try and just keep on making a bit at it. C Dub: Yeah. And last thing I'll say, I mean, do you think Saquon changes this game? I I said it last year last week, but what do you think there? Roc: With how close it was, yes, I think so. But C Dub: I would agree. Roc: yeah, I I I would say I mean Saquon's a stud still. So I I I would think that I would like to think that the Eagles would be able to milk the clock there with the final ten minutes that they had in the fourth quarter instead of giving the Jags an another opportunity. So Yeah. C Dub: Yeah. Yeah, no for sure. Textbook Eagles close game, textbook Eagles loss. I mean Roc: Yeah. Jaguars moved to four and one and they look good down in the AFC South. C Dub: Yeah, look great. Yeah. Roc: So that was the start of Sunday, and then we head into the one o'clock games. And the first game I have, Jets seventeen, Browns twelve, and my first note was gross weather to go with a gross game. C Dub: Truly, truly. I mean, Monkin, gotta wear that one on the chest. That one's that one's you can't take the brown out of the browns. There are just sometimes you just can't do it. Roc: I I don't know what it is with the weather right now, but every single Saturday and Sunday up in or down in whatever the New York metropolitan area of East Rutherford, New Jersey and New York City, it's just been raining the past month. Like that game was so gross. There was like rain puddles on turf when they when the Browns oversnapped the punt and people were sliding everywhere. It was just just a gross game and it like the score reflected on it. Deshaun finished with a hundred and fifty five, a touchdown. Gino a hundred eighty two a touchdown. The the really the star of the game was Braden Braylon Allen. Hit twenty four carries for a hundred and tw 120 yards in the tutties. C Dub: Or sure. Yep. Yep. Roc: So I mean, just did what they have to to win the game. And yeah, it was just a gross game. I didn't really have any other notes on it. Ju dub? Yeah. C Dub: I had I had some. Braylon Allen kinda became a guy. Roc: Yeah. first off, he's he's a dude. He's he's jacked. There's pictures of him when he C Dub: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like I he he he he's a guy. Roc: was a freshman at Wisconsin and it looked like he was like thirty years old, a grown grown man. C Dub: Yeah. And then Roc: So he he can he can run the thing. C Dub: in the my last note on that before we move on 'cause it's it was an ugly game, I don't want to talk about it too much. Jerry Judy hasn't had more than three receptions in a game this year. Roc: Yeah, he's perfect trade deadline target. Some teams gonna go out and trade for him. It's Denzel Boston, Casey Concepcion took over that wide receiver group. And then you have Har Harold Fan Fannon in the in the mix of it all. So he just he's the one sadly that just got cut out of the group and he will be a perfect trade deadline piece for some team that needs wide receiver help, I think. C Dub: No, for sure. Roc: 'Cause he is a vet and he is I I think he is serviceable. He he is a good player. Obviously he's not not what he was when he was Getting drafted out of Bama, everyone thought he was gonna be like a thirteen hundred yard, one hundred catch guy each year in and year out, and he just hasn't been that. But he'll definitely be a a good piece to pick up, I think, at the trade deadline. C Dub: That's sharp there. for sure. Roc: I I did have this question for you, Dub. Did Cleveland's luck run its course? They had another shot at a fourth quarter game winning drive, which would have been four straight for four straight wins to get them to four and one and this time they didn't pull it out of the bag, but is it kinda like this is this is the recurring theme we see every single week with them. Is it are we calling C Dub: Yeah. Roc: it luck or what are we feeling on it? 'Cause I still think that their defense is good enough and it really just depends on their how their offense plays. And then that weather, I can't really knock the offense for not moving the ball as much, but do you think it's kind of running its course right now, it's luck? C Dub: I am gonna go with no just because we talk Like other than the NFC East, their division is so wide open to still. I don't think because the Ravens, they don't have Lamar back yet. There could be a lot more shuffle in there. I still I still think they have a path, but has their luck run out? Maybe. I'm still not I I I was an idiot and called them to make the playoffs in some other podcast that we did. I'm not down and out on them yet, but I think Munkins changing the culture. That's just a shitty weather game. Shitty game. I I I think it'll be okay. 'Cause they still gotta get defense, as you said. Roc: Yeah, I'm not down on them yet. They have a big game next week against the Ravens, so I think that would be a big tell telltale for which way this C Dub: That's a good Roc: this which way this division's gonna go, which way this team's gonna go. Honestly. C Dub: Yeah. That's a gut check game. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: That that's that in my opinion for the Browns, I'm not I haven't looked at the line, but that's like a must cover game if they want to stay frisky. Roc: Yeah. Yeah. Especially if there's no if there's no Lamar, then yes, but i if Lamar plays then Yeah, it it could could get. Yeah. C Dub: That moves the line anyways, you know? Yeah. Roc: Next game we had Packers thirty one, Bears seven. And before we start, dub, I just wanna say Bozo Alert on RNs. W last Thursday we talked we ripped Matt LaFleur and Ben Johnson C Dub: No, we did. We did. Roc: We we had the polar opposites approach. We were like, damn, we really C Dub: No, we did. Roc: like how how Ben Johnson's just attacking this matchup. He really wants it. Matt LaFleur's kinda being a little bit of a pansy when it comes to downplaying it. And he heard the disrespect and put BTA to the Bears. C Dub: But I think Matt Fleur did say something correctly. I think it was the players took it personally too. Roc: They did. C Dub: I think it was I mean, granted, Matt LaFleur, I mean, master class at the offensive end with them. I mean, they were throwing nukes. And I think the one drive that really encapsulates that game, it was deep ball left, deep ball right, deep ball center, Christian Watson. Roc: On third and twenty. On third and twenty n nonetheless to start the second half. Yeah. C Dub: Deep ball left, deep ball right, bomb. Down the middle, down the seam. Watson with an insane catch. Head tap. Roc: Watson just under just under a hundred fifty yards, two tutties. Matthew Golden went off. The the Packers offense was clicking and it's it's kind of crazy 'cause their offensive line has been so, so, so bad this year. And the fact that the Bears defense couldn't get any pressure or any real rush or stoppage on them is a a different question of its own, different topic of its own, 'cause they were playing a little bit better the past two weeks as pairs as opposed to what we thought going into the year about this Bears defense was that this that was gonna be their their kryptonite if they want if they wanna be legit. And yeah, they just they couldn't stop Green Bay's offense at all. And Green Bay put BTA. C Dub: Do you think a a signature win like this for the Packers gets their season right? Was that a get right? Roc: Definitely could. Definitely, definitely could. C Dub: It's a winnable game. Roc: I think that's that's a winnable game, easy, easily a winnable game. I'm pretty sure Micah's not coming back this week. I think they said they were gonna target the week after that C Dub: No, yeah. Roc: because they have a I think they have a buy or something after that and then they play then they play the Panthers, C Dub: I'm not sure. I didn't look too far out ahead. Roc: but I think w Micah, because originally in the beginning of the year they said week six before the season started, and week six was the Cowboys. Like obviously that whole storyline. But the last few weeks I think they said that he's he's gonna get pushed back. So I think this C Dub: Yeah. Roc: this is a big win and it could definitely shift momentum in the locker room and get get the morale right for Green Bay. And yeah, they go they go out there and they beat Dallas this week, then they're they're right back C Dub: Then they have the Lions after that. Roc: right back right back in the mix. C Dub: Then they have the Lions and that could be if they if they keep this one of them up, I mean they could really get a get back here in their division. Roc: Yeah. The last note I had on that was I I talked about this in our last on Thursday's episode when we did Contenders or Pretenders and when we asked about the Bears, I said if Caleb's healthy, then yes. But we don't know how many weeks he's gonna be out for. And I think that kind of showed this week. the first week was Case Keenan master class and everyone was like, Ben Johnson can make any quarterback look amazing or look serviceable. Tyson Bajan last week. It was just a dominant performance, just dominant team performance against the Jets. Just Jets weren't even in that game. And then C Dub: Yeah. Roc: this week the offense just looked brutal. Brutal. C Dub: Yeah, and I mean I just Bajan's not the guy. Bajan is not the guy. Roc: I think that they they need to get Caleb back quick if they wanna stay in stay in the mix for this division because th they're they're fine right now, but C Dub: Yeah. Roc: I don't know if they can go another month without him playing this four more games. That's I don't know. C Dub: Yeah, I completely agree. Roc: Next game we had Bengals thirty one, Dolphins twenty-four. And dub, I know you're the segment guy here, but hey, let me let me call T quick. I got a new segment. C Dub: Time it out. Time it out. Give it to me. Roc: New segment, know, my time's precious. Your time's precious precious and our listeners' time is precious. So I got a new segment called Time of Day. And if you're and four or and five after a month into the season, I I we we shouldn't give your team any time of day. So I from going forward, if a team is still winless five weeks into the season, I'm not giving them my breath, I'm not giving them your breath, and I'm not giving them our listeners time of day. Okay. C Dub: Can I do a counterpoint? Roc: Yeah. C Dub: I I brought up a new sub for this one. Roc: What's your segment? C Dub: My segment is Find the Silver Lining. Roc: You can do that. I'm I'm not giving my time of day. My time of C Dub: No, no, hey Roc: day is up. C Dub: Okay, fine. Roc: The Bengals are C Dub: Jamar Chase, that catch. Let's just get into that. Roc: Beast. That's why he's one of one. Uno C Dub: That was awesome. Roc: J Joe Burrow, four tutties. I I said in one of my notes is he looks like he's done with his yearly early season struggles that he always has. The first two or three weeks he's always rusty. And it's just a commonly thing that we can get accustomed to now as an NFL fan. And if you're a Bengals fan, you know those first few weeks the offense isn't gonna be clicking. And Joey B looks like he he's back to himself four tutties. Played a played a pretty near perfect game. C Dub: can I come in with a hot take here? And Roc: Yeah. C Dub: you tell me if I'm off base. Just tell me right away. The Charlotte Hornets announcer. Roc: Electric C Dub: Can I say something real quick? You need to have a better one in the chamber when Jamar Chase makes that catch than good golly. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: Have one in the chamber at least for a guy like that. Like have a little saying that goes Roc: Yeah. C Dub: along with it. He gets hype, he has his voice is amazing. I love the call still, but let's Roc: It's it's so it's so sick. C Dub: let's get something better than good galley for that catch. Roc: I don't I don't hate that at all actually. I don't hate that at all. C Dub: For a guy like that, tee something up. That's all I Roc: Yeah. C Dub: got. And then we can move on from that game, because we should not give this game any more time. Roc: Yeah, I I I'm I'm good with that. That's all I had for the Bengals side of things. Next game, Patriots forty five, Raiders seventeen. Dang. C Dub: Yeah, not proud of it, man enough to say it. the C dub dog lost finally. I was high Roc: Damn. C Dub: on the Raiders. We called them pretenders. I think it really got shown here. when the pa and and it's also when the Patriots have a complete team. They are such a complete team. Their defense has been showing up. the Raiders couldn't get anything on the ground. Genty was held to I don't even know what it was. But it was that's not It's not where Kirk thrives, is when you don't have a run game. So they had him right where they want him. Pass protection held long enough for Drake to make some beautiful throws. one last thing I'll say about this game, and then you can say your points. I sprinkle a little bit on the Patriots to win their division. Roc: I I actually kinda love that. I can't lie. My one my one note was are Pets fully back and is the division still up for grabs for them? C Dub: I think t well the problem is we'll talk about it later. I think tonight's a big a Roc: We'll find a C Dub: big game for the Bills because Roc: Yeah. C Dub: if they just haven't in these past few weeks haven't had a a complete game on both sides of the ball. We'll see what Bills team shows up tonight. But right now, before this game, th the the odds that I found, Pats are plus one thirty four and the Bills are minus one forty six in the division. Roc: Yeah, tonight's tonight we'll we'll swing. It's either gonna be a Bills win and they're gonna still have a nice little chokehold on it, or they lose and all of a sudden things are getting spicy in the AFC East. C Dub: Yep. So we'll see. Roc: Yeah, I said our Pat's fully back. Drake May looks incredible. Almost three hundred seventy five passing yards, five total touchdowns. Their offense had five hundred and thirty six total yards. And I I said I think this game obviously said a lot more about the Patriots than it did the Raiders. 'Cause like C Dub: For sure. Roc: all of us, we we didn't know if the Raiders were imposter s syndrome or what. We we just said they're a good team, but we didn't think they were really legit. But the Pats came into the year with the legit Super Bowl talk, like they're they're real deal, they're real deal. And then the really slow, really, really, really slow start to the year in his last few weeks, some big wins and some dominant wins. And I think he said a lot more about the Patriots and I think they're starting to get their groove back and I kinda like them where they're at right now. C Dub: I do too a lot. I mean, they look great. And again, I like them in the division. So we'll see where it goes tonight. I think that's a big telltale game tonight as to where if this is a two dog race. So we'll Roc: Yeah. C Dub: see. We'll see how it goes. Roc: next game we had Vikings twenty three, Saints thirteen, and my biggest takeaway is just Brian Flores puts quarterbacks in hell, dude. Shuck finished the game with ninety six passing yards and two interceptions. C Dub: And I remember when we were having this conversation last podcast, where we put the Saints, I think we just say sometimes fun offense, bad defense. And Roc: Yeah. C Dub: they're falling into that section of of teams where they can they can win any any single day, but I'm not surprised when they lose. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: they're similar to the Cardinals in that spot I think. You know? Like Roc: I think they're the the Tom Brady of Cardinals, if that kinda makes sense. C Dub: I don't it does. It does I don't wanna call them fr I I they're on the fringe of frisky. They're not frisky. Roc: Yeah. I think they're just like a C Dub: They're on the fringe. Roc: step above the step above the Cardinals. But going off of the Brian Flores, how he just has these quarterbacks in a chamber that they don't even know what's going on, I kinda got in a little bit of a rabbit hole on some breakdowns of what he's doing. And it's really, really, really interesting, I don't know, to me at least, 'cause he runs his defense Based on his personnel and he loves his personnel. Like there's no like studs on this defense where you have like a Will Anderson or a Miles Garrett or a Pat Surtain or Devon W withers Devin Witherspoon. You don't have those studs, individual players, but he loves the all eleven personnel that he has. And the scheme that they're running for defense. Harrison Smith was talking about it on a podcast. They don't actually run a planned coverage. So they don't run like a man like when they when the offense breaks the huddle, they don't have let's do cover zero man or cover one man coverage or cover two zone, cover three zone. They don't run an actual planned coverage. Flores trusts his D Bs so much that they communicate while the snap is happening. C Dub: I see, I did not know this. Roc: Har Harrison i No, it's like it's like 5D level chest. Like Harrison Smith is explaining it that like alright, when when the offense breaks the huddle, they'll they'll be base coverage will be man. But then if they see a guy motioning over, the the left side safety and corner will communicate and they'll play a cover two on the left side, and then they'll only play a cover zero man on the right side, and it's like match coverage. So there's not a real Playing coverage for quarterbacks to look at it pre-snap and be like, we're they're in cover two, we're good, we're good on this play. Or they're in man, we're good on this play. Let me let me audible. Let me check. The quarterbacks don't know what what's going on because there isn't an actual coverage. Nobody knows besides just those six to seven D Bs that are out on the field. Like the defensive line doesn't even know the coverage. They're just out there, let me go get C ball, get ball. And then Brian Flores is dialing up the blitzes, and then the rest of the D Bs that are out there, they're just talking and they're They're they're figuring it out on their own, which is it's just it it blew my mind and like it might have been a boring the topic to talk about, but I I don't I don't know. I d I can't get over that. I C Dub: No, I love that. I love that. As someone who played a little defense himself. I mean it's cool to hear it. I mean I didn't even know this that wrinkle in there. No, Roc: That was just some nerdy stuff that I saw, but C Dub: that's awesome. And I mean, and it shows, I mean, what quarterbacks play good against them. Roc: No nobody C Dub: Yeah, you can't you can't pick out a game where really had anything going. I do want to s I did wanna add new segment. just football guys. d who's Hawkinson's backup? Do you remember his name? Roc: Johnny Mutt? I don't know if that's the one you're talking about. He's the third stringer. C Dub: No, it's another tight end. Another tight end. Gavin Bartholomew. That's just a football guy right there. That's a great name. I looked him up. I was like, Roc: That is a football name. That's a football name. C Dub: I saw his number get called. I'm like, who's this guy? I looked him up. He's got a sick mullet. Just football guy. That's my new segment. That's it. That's all I got. Good game. Roc: I love that. I love that. C Dub: Kyler played great. Was fleet fleet Roc: Yeah. C Dub: of fleet of foot. And Aaron Jones looked great. I think he had one fumble lost. I mean, I know he's had fumblitis recently. But I mean, granted, I don't even remember how many yards he had it well over a hundred all purpose yards. Roc: Yeah, he 113 rushing yards in a tutty. He he played well. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: In last last pot, I tried timing the market with this Vikings offense. And I took the over I gave the play of the over in the game, which it it just missed. But I think what I've came to the conclusion of with this Vikings offense is this week was probably its best looking week wise. I mean, they put up twenty-three points, whatever. But I think we just have to get used to the fact that it's a Kyler Murray played played offense in a Kevin O'Connell scheme. And kind of like what we said with McDaniels and Harbaugh, how they're just they don't mesh. KOC likes his quarterbacks to be in the pocket, timing on rhythm, like get the ball, C ball, pocket passer, get it in and out. And Kyler Murray is obviously the off schedule, extend the play, run here and there. So it won't ever look smooth in my opinion. But there will be openings for the big plays, the off schedules, let me roll right, throw left, bomb the Justin Je Jefferson. I think that's the conclusion that I came to. That's the conclusion I came to. C Dub: but then then then why'd they get him though? Roc: I think he's the most talented guy on the market. I mean he's st he's a talented guy and I C Dub: You know, he is a stud, I'm just saying, but like we see Roc: I think KO C's a good enough coach, like a great enough coach that he's just like, I can bring in any quarterback and I think we'll we'll be okay. And I think they will ultimately be okay. That they will get on the same page. C Dub: I they d they look damn o they look okay, they're they haven't lost yet. Roc: Yeah, but not because of their offense. And this C Dub: Very true, but Roc: was their best offensive output and it still didn't look smooth. So I think I C Dub: Against and against a bad against a bad defense too, so Roc: think I think they will will get better and it will start to to click a little bit more. But yeah, that's that was the last takeaway I had on that game. Next game, Texans twenty six, Titans three, and y yeah, yeah, I'm obligated. C Dub: Are you continuing your s your segment? Okay, good. Roc: I'm not saying anything about that team from Tennessee. That team's yeah, yeah. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: But Texans, they look good. I I my my first note was C Z C J Stroud's been balling this year. I I he has been. C Dub: Eventually, eventually. Roc: No, he has been though. He in the games that they've been losing, he's been putting up three hundred and fifty yards like every game. So it's not his fault. C Dub: He has, he has. And I yeah. Roc: And he's he's been doing his thing. And he didn't sign the extension this before the season because he wanted more money. And I think as of right now, he's gonna get more money. from it and I think it's gonna come back and hurt Houston a little bit. C Dub: Yeah, no, I just remember we're hating on Stroud. But I mean, that could just be because they were because of the record, you know. we could have been on that. But I my notes were I think this team might find a way to make the playoffs as crazy as it sounds. it's madness. another thing I had, the the recent trade. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: Weirdly timed trade. Reuniting Stroud and Marv. will something be unlocked with Maserati? Roc: I said I low key loved the Marvin trade. He's still a young stud. He's still a stud. It's just he they weren't C Dub: Yeah, no for sure. Roc: they weren't they weren't using him right in the Cardinal system. Like he just wasn't that piece, the the main piece of it. And you pair him back up with Stroud in his college days, and I think he's gonna put up numbers, honestly. And I think he's gonna be a perfect side man to Nico. I think Nico's clear cut, the number one. I think he'll be a good two, and I think he'll be Good for both ends. Honestly. I think Marv's gonna gonna gonna get right. C Dub: And then we're not even talking we're not even talking about when Tank Dow comes back too. Roc: Yeah, I don't know, yeah. C Dub: So I I mean, could be like three headed beast. I'm not sure. I mean we'll see how healthy Tank Dell is, but having a having a good two with Nico will I think it'll really unlock something here. And they might make a run. Roc: Yeah, I also w asked I wonder what the playoff od odds are at right now for the Texans because they have a big game next week against the Jaguars and if they really want to make a bit at it, then if they can go into Jacksonville and get a win, I think they are looking not too bad. Not too bad. C Dub: They're live. They're live. Roc: Yes, definitely live. Definitely I I'll say live. C Dub: Yeah. Yeah. Roc: That was all I had on that game. C Dub: I this next game, Rock. Roc: Yeah, next game. Giants twenty seven, Commanders twenty seven. We got a tie, folks. We got a damn tie in two thousand and twenty six. C Dub: and you know what, sum it off, I think Harbaugh put it best, if you saw his his quote Rock. Roc: Yeah. Yeah. I did see I saw that interview. C Dub: I'm happy we didn't lose, but I'm sad we didn't win. That sums it that Roc: Yeah. C Dub: about sums up this game for me. I mean, I don't know what team Roc: Bah. C Dub: wanted to lose it more in overtime. Roc: Yeah, I my my takeaways in this game were it's hard. I can't even describe it honestly. It's it was the ugliest one score game I saw that like throughout that entire game, like we were kind of getting dominated, but we were still only down like a touchdown going into the fourth, and then we were down by fourteen with ten minutes left, and then we get it back to seven with five minutes left. And the whole time I'm just like, We shouldn't really be in this game, like We don't look good. It's not clicking. And then the fourth quarter, we just like woke up and it was just an ugly one score game throughout throughout. And then when we get to overtime, my immediate thought was after we got the stop on Washington, we had zero business losing that game. Zero business losing that game. And then after the scat fumble, it was we have zero business winning this game. So my mind was just all mixed up and all over the place. And honestly, you can't miss three field goals and leave nine points on the board and expect to win. I don't care about the conditions. I don't care about fifty plus. Then then don't attempt them. Then don't attempt it. Like Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Then that's what I'm saying. Then don't attempt them. But like C Dub: at the Those were nukes, those were nu no, that's what that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. I mean it's an ugly weather game, then just don't do it. Then just don't. Roc: w when when you're attempting fifty plus in a in a rainstorm. And you have a rookie kicker and I I I love them trusting their guy. They're going the bat for the guy. And C Dub: Granted, he's been he's been lights out. Roc: he's been he's been nails. This was his first first miss this year. And it just so happened that he did it three times. But when you're going for 50 yarders in in the rain, it's one thing if it's like a fourth and five. I I'd say go for it. Why not? Just just go for it. But play the field position game. I I hate saying that too, because I I'm not big on punting when you're on the opposite s opposite side C Dub: No sure. Roc: of the fifty. But in a game like that, it's like just take a delay game, pin back instead of giving the ball at the forty seven yard line three times, you know? C Dub: Yeah, yeah. found a timestamp from me. I texted Roc: Yeah. C Dub: a coworker who's also a Giants fan at two twenty PM, gimme JJ. And that is exactly when Jameis Winston woke up and gave us the Jameis experience. Roc: That's that was one of the notes I had 'cause 'cause y y you you sent me a text also and I yeah. My my last two notes were Jameis killed it. He's gotta keep driving the ball downfield, targeting neighbors just like he was. I I love it. He t neighbors had twenty targets. J Jabbo threw the ball sixty times, over three hundred yards, three touchdowns, and then we got the good, really good Jameis. No interceptions is a plus, and he keeps playing like this. It's his job the rest of the way if he keeps playing like this. Cause that was really you're that was a great game by him. He picked it up in the second half. Second C Dub: Yeah, yeah, he really did. Roc: first half it was laxadays. Second half though, he started flinging that thing. And one my last point, it was just such a pet peeve to me throughout watching that game was the JJ McCarthy game plan. I just really hated How they kept putting him in only for design quarterback runs. And I get he's a better athlete than Jameis. Don't get me wrong. Like he can move around a little bit and it's like similar to Dart. He's not I don't know if he's that at athletic as Dart. C Dub: Yeah, no, I agree. Roc: But you almost think that the coaching staff thinks that he's Lamar. When you're only putting him in to go do zone reads and to do read options, it makes zero sense to me. He's not like a 4-3, 4-4 guy. like a Lamar and Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, a Trey Lance, somebody that's going to run run the ball and maybe run over somebody. it was just the biggest pet peeve to me 'cause the whole defense knows that he's going in there there to be a be a run a run guy. He's not they didn't even think about the thought of him throwing the ball, which is sad to say. And that you're designing quarterback runs for him when he's not That freak of an athlete, it bothered me so much. And that was that was the last thing. C Dub: Maybe I was trying to think I was trying to conceptualize this in my head. Maybe they're just trying to get his feet wet. But I mean, at least throw an RPO. Like give him a give him a chance Roc: Yeah. C Dub: to throw the ball at at least to make it not so obvious to this defense. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: What I got the most excited in this game was not the offense. It was when the Giants decided to just send house at the end of the game. I that's the closest you can get to a coin flip in football. When you just say, let's throw eight guys on the line. And let's Roc: Yeah. C Dub: and let's see, can your offense get the ball out in time to those routes? And I I was I was really loving that part. Defense was flying, they were playing some great ball. my last I I I had a note here, weird makings Vada. Hit bombs in a bad weather game. And we kind of went over that. but my last Roc: Yeah. C Dub: point was it's weird now that I have to hype up JJ meditation videos when I was commenting Roc: Yeah. C Dub: performative under them his entire career. Now I'm now Roc: Two years ago. Yeah. C Dub: I'm a staunch defender. And that's just the funny part about football. How what what can turn on a dime. I'm I'm all in on it. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: I'm in, let's get let's get in the zone, let's get our head right. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: Don't look at my past comments on other Posts. Roc: That's awesome. C Dub: That's all I got. But damn w I mean, what a Roc: I love that. C Dub: tie. What a tie. Roc: It's a tie. It's a tie. That's it. C Dub: Yeah. And we haven't even we didn't even touch on Scataboo fumbling there. That's just an unacceptable unacceptable play. I mean, you just gotta have your ha your wits about you. You know the defense is going for a punch out Roc: Inexplicable. C Dub: there. But yeah, I mean we can move on. I'm not I'm not too mad at Scat how can you be when he plays in the fourth quarter in overtime he kinda turned it up for them when they didn't really have a run game before? Yeah, so that's that. That is that. Roc: Yeah, next game, Steelers thirty-four, Colts twenty two. Dub C Dub: Yeah. Roc: you said you had some notes on this game. I honestly my my biggest note was I thought it was kind of a boring game. Pit controlled most of the game and never really felt C Dub: For sure. Roc: like the Colts were in that striking distance to really I never felt like the the Steelers were gonna lose, i if that makes sense. C Dub: Yeah. A podcast or two or three ago, I said, Damn, I remember when the Colts were good last year and they're on that run. I mean, and then they got me back, granted they lost, but that Kansas City game where they really gave it to I after that game I feel like I'm a broken record at this point. I I'm not ready to quit on them, but they it just seems like something's not working that was their last year. Roc: Yeah. I know. I I think Daniel Jones isn't fully healthy, obviously. And last year when they got off to that hot start, Jonathan Taylor was leading the league in yards, touchdowns for the first nine weeks, and they're just not having that same effect this year. So I think that's just the biggest thing. And their defense this year is is pitiful. It is is bad. That their C Dub: It is. It is. Roc: DBs are really, really, really bad. And last year they were turning the ball over, making plays, and you know, swarming the football. Then they go out and make that sauce sauce gardener trade and it kinda just seems like everything's gone downhill on that side of the ball. C Dub: Yeah, no, for sure. For sure. I mean I more more NFC East talk though. I mean Ravens are four and one, everyone else is three and two. Steelers go in there. That's how I meant it. Roc: AFC North Doc, you mean? C Dub: to talk similar to the N everyone was talking about the NFC East. But Roc: yeah, yeah. C Dub: the AFC North, again, this division's tight. i I can see it going anyway. And the Steelers look great. I mean, it a complete game. They were in the driver's seat pretty much the whole time. and the Ravens haven't played a division game yet. And we said they have a big one with the Browns coming up. So I'm excited to see where that goes with that division. I'll be keeping a close eye on that one. But no, we Roc: Yeah. C Dub: we also have to give flowers to Jalen Warren. Roc: I was gonna say that's the biggest key for their offense is they they just gotta keep getting him going. In every game that they've won and it's been a a a dominant win or like a sounding win, it's Jalen Warren goes for a hundred plus total yards. I think that's the biggest plan. Just make sure you feed him and then it opens up everything in the rest of the offense. Rogers is finding Firemooth, he was finding Bernard and yeah. C Dub: Yeah, and Bernard's been s been sneaky good too. So yeah. Great rookie. Roc: Yeah, good rookie out of Bama. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: Then four o'clock games and we had Broncos twenty three, Chargers seventeen. C Dub: Rocco, had one note on this game, and then you can take the floor because I know you're high in the Broncos. I wanted let Roc: Yeah, yeah. C Dub: you talk about this one. My main takeaway is I don't trust the Broncos. Granted they won. I Roc: Yeah, I C Dub: don't trust them. I can't trust them. Roc: Yeah. Again, Chargers don't have a win, so I won't be speaking on behalf of anything to do with them. But the Broncos, the biggest note I had was is Bo holding them back? Like I'm I'm such a believer. I'm a I'm a fan of him. He he was really, really, really good last year and he j everything just looks difficult for him right now. He's missing easy throws. His feet, if you watch him in the pocket, he has a clean pocket because their offensive line is still really good. He has a clean pocket and his feet just look too fast. Like he's speeding everything up for no reason. When last year, he would just sit back there, cool, calm, poise, deliver it. And now this year I still know if he's not seeing it, not seeing things or what's going on. If it's like his mental clock is speeding up, but I don't know if he's holding them back and the offense just still looks bad even after Sean Payton took back play calling. W I think people thought that that was gonna be like the our saviors here, Hall of Fame coach, Hall of Fame play calling, one of the best to ever do it. We're gonna be A okay. And C Dub: I fully agree. Roc: they they still just didn't look great and th they can't run the ball. They can't run the ball right now and it's holding them back. And that that was all I had on the Broncos. C Dub: that and I the only note I had was for you 'cause I know you're so high on the Broncos, their defense. Granted they scrapped a one out of this with a I know you don't want Roc: Yeah. C Dub: to talk about it, but with a a Herbert Hoagie. A Herbert Hoagie Roc: Yeah. C Dub: down the field at the end there when they were driving. Yeah, no, Chargers suck. I don't trust the Broncos. Roc: Well said. Well said. Next game. Lions forty five, Cardinals twenty one, and I said points, points, points, fun game. C Dub: Yes. I wasn't too tapped into this one, I'll be honest. When I was when I was on my drive back from the weekend, I was watching most of these games in Roc: Mm-hmm. C Dub: the car, just having the ra having the radio on. my main takeaway of this, I don't think the Cardinals aren't fun anymore. I kinda alluded to it earlier. I put around where the Saints are. they'll give you points, but they're not gonna make any splashes like I thought they were earlier on, when they gave some other teams a run for their money. They're such empty points. Roc: They're empty points. They're empty points. C Dub: And then the Lions get a forty-five, Roc: Yeah. C Dub: Gibbs goes off, bl yada yada yada. This wasn't really competitive. Lions win. That's great for them, but like when they get into these division games, what are we gonna see out of them? And I'm just not sure. Roc: Yeah, I had two two notes on this game. Gibbs obviously went crazy. Hundred fifty one yards, two touchdowns again. Jared Goff balling, two seventy, three tutties. I just said it's a shame that the Lions defense is gonna hold them back from being a real Super Bowl contender because before the year they were my they were my pick. And I knew that their defense was shaky and I knew it wasn't good, but I just thought that this was gonna be the year that maybe they turned it around. And my question to you, Dub. Sneaky MVP Jared Goff. Yay, nay? C Dub: I haven't even thought about that one to be honest with you, brother. I mean he's putting up yards, but Roc: Ex and I think the only I think the only reason why you haven't thought about it is because then now they are three and two and that i if they went out and beat the Panthers in prime time, they'd be four and one. It would change the whole narrative of the story. But C Dub: It would. Roc: he has fourteen hundred passing yards, twelve touchdowns, zero interceptions this year, averaging three hundred yards passing a game with thirteen total T Ds. He's a top three in every stat when it comes to quarterback play, and it just sucks that Their defense is so bad that it's just diminishing what he's doing right now. 'Cause he's playing C Dub: Yeah. Yeah. Roc: right up there outside of Brock Purdy, I think he's playing the best quarterback play in all of football right now. And it's like C Dub: Yeah. Roc: he's it it sucks that he's not getting his flowers. That was just that was the only note C Dub: Yeah. Roc: I had. C Dub: Yeah, no, and VP's a record award for your team as much as it is for your quarterback, you know? So Roc: Mm-hmm. C Dub: I mean I guess we'll see if the Lions can really turn it around, maybe something on defense clicks. I'm not really sure. I don't have high hopes. But no, I d didn't even think about that. But that's a good th good thought and I'm gonna look at look at look at his odds after this. Roc: Yeah. next game, four and forty niners thirty two, Seahawks twenty nine. I shouted this out to be the game of the week before the week started, and it kind of lived up to it, honestly, in my opinion. C Dub: It did. It did. Roc: The biggest I said hell of a game, and in my opinion, the Hawks got hoed on that fourth down Cooper Cup play. They pretty much end the game. That's what my thoughts were. I don't know what you were thinking, Dub. C Dub: Yeah, yeah. I was just gonna say it's really it's on Roc: Mm-hmm. C Dub: all cylinders. two complete teams. The Seahawks were able to make Purdy look a little human, but he's still playing slinging damn good rock. And I think this just really encapsulates for the Seahawks, I mean, how important was K nine to that offense? Roc: That is exact that is exactly what I was gonna say, dub. you could see the Seahawks offense it it goes through the run game and With no run game now, they are pretty much so JSN big play dependent to be able to go and score points. But they they they are. Think about it. JSN had a what? What C Dub: Ooh, I like that take. I like that take a lot. Yeah, no, you're right. Roc: was it, thirty what thirty-eight yard touchdown catch yesterday after he rolled C Dub: That sounds right. Roc: his ankle? Weeks before, it's JSN going for a fifty five yard, sixty yards, seventy yard touchdown. It they're so dependent on the big play by him that if you take out JSN, then they're not a good team. They're still their defense is insane. I'm just saying offensively wise, they're not anywhere close to a complete offense to where they were last year. They don't have a run game right now, and they're so reliant on JSN that again, he rolled his ankle in this game and he fought through it, taped it up. You're a sprained ankle away from him being out four to five weeks, and then what do you do? I I really don't know. I I don't know what you C Dub: That's a great point. Th they don't have any other answer. Roc: do. They're putting Rah He Cheed back there at running back. They're trying to get him the ball to get some explosive plays. And Barner, tight end, it's just n they are so dependent on JSN, who's probably the best receiver in the league, and they're just not a complete offense right now. C Dub: No for sure. That's a great way to put it. Roc: And then I said Niners are just a really, really, really good team. I think they're the best team in the league. Going into Seattle and pulling out a win is very, very impressive. That's a tough environment, tough place to play. And I know you touched on it like two seconds ago, Doug, but I have another question to you. C Dub: Give it to Roc: So we've been talking about Brock Purdy's playing pretty much MVP level right now. C Dub: Mm. Roc: And Mike Evans went out there, had seven for one hundred and thirteen and a touchdown. Was Mike Evans signing more impactful than the K9 signing this offseason? Think about it. K9's going insane in Kansas City and their offense looks good. But Mike Evans signing to San Francisco, I think is just opening up a whole new option for Purdy in this offense. They're they're not relying so much on CNC CMC to do everything like they have been the last three years. And I want to hear your take on it. C Dub: No, I think that's a sharp take. And I I haven't really thought about it. That's great question. What I would say is I would say yes. I think Mike Evans is probably more impactful. Because I trust Andy Reid to scheme up an offense with whatever back he has, 'cause he's been able to do that in the past. And granted, canine also unlock some things for them where Patrick Mahomes doesn't have put on the cape as much. when he's coming back from the injury, which has really helped him out. But as we said, the Chiefs are always inevitable. Like, he's just he's an he's a monster and he really opens up I mean, Purdy has even more safety valves even after he has CMC and Kittle. Roc: Yeah. And I don't want this to be like thrown to the side, but he Mike Evans, at least in our time of watching football, he by the time he retires, I think he might go down as one of the most, if not the most underrated wide receiver to play. Started with what eleven straight C Dub: I mean, he's Mr. Reliable. Roc: eleven straight, ten straight, whatever it was, one thousand yard seasons, and he was just in Tampa, not even he was just doing his thing, doesn't really get any any coverage. And That man, he just puts on the hard hat, grabs the lunch pill and he goes to work every single day. And I I I'm just I'm glad that it's being shown right now in this Niners offense and they look really, really good. C Dub: They do look good. Roc: Now we'll move on to the last game of the week before this Rams and Rams and Bills game. But we had Sunday night football, Ravens thirty, Falcons twenty-three, and dub, I want to give you a hand up right here. C Dub: Give it to me. Roc: I don't know what it was. Maybe it was just a long day, long weekend. I didn't make it through the first quarter. I I passed out. C Dub: Shout out for trying though. Did you give it a shot at least? Roc: I I and I was really looking forward to this. I I I love I love watching this Falcons game. I literally I fell asleep with my phone like on my chest. I I I I it was one of those where I C Dub: Right. Hey. Roc: was unplanned unplanned sleep and I wake up at around one thirty in the morning, pitch black, go to go take a piss, and I'm like, Whoa, I've been knocked out f since nine o'clock. So I hand up, I didn't I didn't watch the game, but I have some notes on it after you C Dub: man. No, hey. That's a Roc: if I I want to give the floor to you. C Dub: that's a not private man enough to say at moment right there, and I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you, Rocco, for admitting that one. Roc: Yeah. Thank you. C Dub: my main takeaway was I mean no disrespect. But anytime Snoop throws over f throws for over 200 yards, you probably did something wrong as a defense, to put it frankly. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: I think it w it was a back and forth game. going down the stretch. I just think Baltimore was able to keep it close, keep it ugly. Henry was a beast. and could we do this? Could we call it the Kyle Pitts game? I mean He had 42 yards for five receptions. That's Roc: Well Tony, right? He f he found paint, no? C Dub: no he did find paint. He did find paint. I'm looking I'm Roc: Yeah. C Dub: looking at it. I mean, I I was waiting for it. He had a game, but then he did his blocking assignment did lead to Penix getting baptized and going out, leading the way for a to to we don't Hammon Rye. Yeah Roc: Yeah. so I I I watched the cut up and was watching the highlights and I had three takeaways on this game. One was I d I was just dying laughing, just first clip I saw was two of throwing a absolute patty melt. C Dub: Ha ha ha ha ha. Roc: An absolute patty melt on a Kaiser roll. On a Kaiser roll. Give me the cafeteria lunch from kindergarten. A patty C Dub: God. Roc: melt on a Kaiser roll. First throw on OT. You gotta feel for him just 'cause like, dude, some some things is right themselves. It sucks. It it sucks. C Dub: Well it's one of those just hand the damn ball off. Just get get him comfy. Get him comfy in there at least. Roc: It sucks. And then my second note was just a a Ravens professional win. Go on the road in Atlanta, backup quarterback, you run the damn ball with King Henry, and I like the little the little wrinkle they threw with getting Justice Hill some carries. C Dub: Yeah. Roc: It was a nice change of pace. It was a a nice little power speed. Power speed. So C Dub: No, it was. It was. Yeah. Yeah. Roc: I thought it was just a true professional win by Baltimore going, get in, get out. And my last note was I said hand up. I completely missed this game, fell asleep in the first quarter. C Dub: Happens. Roc: But I woke up this this morning at seven thirty to my six leg twenty dollar parlay hitting for four hundred and fifty b dollars. Dub. So C Dub: Who'd you have? Who'd you have? Roc: Boom. I had Penix yards, London yards, Bijan total yards, C Dub: That's just mailing. That's just mailing. Roc: Bichon total yards, Henry attempts, Henry yards, and Zay Flowers receptions. C Dub: Beautiful. It's a thing of beauty. Roc: So I woke up to it and I I was ready to watch the cut ups. I was ready to watch the cut ups. C Dub: You know, I I mean I was kind of in and out during this game too, Rock. I'll put my hand up too, 'cause I was out hiking all weekend backpacking. So I was very tired at this game. Very in and out. I didn't put any bets on it. I was my head j head just wasn't in it. My last question though, now that we're wrapping Roc: Yeah. Yeah. C Dub: up and we're about to talk about the Monday Monday slate. Who like I mean, who are your top three backs in the league? We talk about Henry all the time. I think I'm gonna put him there somewhere. We just talked about K9. Do you put him in? Roc: It's tough because it is if you're going top three, it's it's Bijan one two. One A one B. C Dub: But where do you put Henry and Canine? Roc: They're they're not even they're not even a one two, it's a one A one B. They're head and shoulders above everyone. But it's tough because Henry's done it every single year and C Dub: Yep. Yep. I just want yep. Roc: he does it every single year. Like I made this take last year to my fantasy group chat. After week one against the Bills, when he ran for like 250 yards and like three touchdowns, and I I just kind of like rant ranted to the fantasy chat and I was like, it's so mind-boggling how we let the PPR and points per reception get in the way of just pure football. And somehow Derrick Henry falls to like the second round, some people even third round of fantasy drafts when year in, year out, he's gonna finish as a top. five RB with pretty much minimal to zero receiving output. He's just ground and pound. So C Dub: Yes. Roc: it I I I would say Henry, he's getting up there with age. I would even throw CMC in there just because he still does it everything. C Dub: Yeah. Yep. Roc: I think it's really that third spot is kind of a a cup of tea, what you prefer. If you like the CMC do it all swift army knife. Or if you're more of a let me ground and pound it. I want to see Derrick Henry tote that thing 30 times a game. Or a K9, he's just an explosive play waiting to happen. He can make anything pop in both the ground and pass game. So I think that third spot's really just whatever. User, user slack. C Dub: Yeah, that was yeah. No, that was my argument because I'm I was trying to do it myself and you obviously said you got Bijan, you got Gibbs, but like it's so tough to pick an up pick a number three. It's it's it's nearly impossible Roc: It's tough. It's really it's really tough. C Dub: and it is your cup of tea. I mean, I would purchasely put Henry just 'cause w I we were talking about this about this. And it might be a thing because K9 and the Chiefs had a buy this week, so it maybe recency bias there too. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: we didn't see him perform and who knows what he does. Roc: Out of sight, out of mind. C Dub: Yeah, exactly. So I mean but it is so tough. It's so tough. And there are some great running backs in this league. Roc: And it's a blessing. It's a blessing that we get to watch these guys go out there and just ball week in and week out. Like I I one of my favorite things is just w I cannot wait to see how Gibbs and Bijan will top each other each week, in my opinion. it's fun it's fun to watch. C Dub: It is fun to watch. It is very fun to watch. Roc: And the we're gonna talk about this game later on tonight, so we're gonna cut it here, but we have the Bills at the Rams. Rams are three and a half point favorites with an overunder of fifty four and a half. Dub. I just wanna do our game pick right now. Who do you have? Straight up. Bills or Rams tonight, and then we'll talk about it after the game. C Dub: the spread right now, three and a half in the Rams favor. if I'm gonna be completely honest here, I like the Bills. Roc: Oof. All right, we got a head head v head battle tonight. I'm I'm taking the Rams. C Dub: I like the Bills. I said this quote earlier, matter it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. I mean when when both sides decide to show up for them. Roc: Yeah. C Dub: Allen been a little sloppy recently. It's a prime time game. He usually puts up numbers here. and that's not to diminish a Rams or a Rams team that is looking so good, so healthy. So I guess we'll see how it goes. I just think the Bills if not win at least cover. I think this will be a close game and a fun game. Roc: Yeah, no, I I I just hope it's a shootout and I hope we get to see stars perform on prime time when the lights are up. But lights lights are bright and I think the Rams see with the Seahawks losing this week to the Niners, there might be a little a little gap there to jump ahead of them in the division and I think that they they they need to show up and show out this week. So I'm taking C Dub: Yeah yeah. Roc: Rams and then we'll know in about two and a half, three hours if we're if I'm smart or if I'm dumb or if dubs the idiot or C Dub: Yeah. Roc: dubs Einstein. C Dub: Yeah. No, and I just have one more thing, Rocco, for you. I mean if the Bills lose this, they just lost a crusher to the Patriots and now they play a really good Rams team. I mean, when do the questions about Joe Brady start to pop up? Roc: I think it kinda depends on how the offense looks totally. C Dub: Or is it too early to tell? Roc: think there isn't any talk. I think it is way too early. But I think it's only if the offense looks really, really bad for extended amount of weeks, extended period, because C Dub: Yeah. Roc: he is the offense coordinator to head coach, so that side of the ball should be clicking. So if we do get a month's stretch where it's four straight weeks of bad offensive play, Josh Allen turnovers they're just not looking like themselves, then maybe you raise a question like, I don't know if the in house hire was the best thing, but I think right now it's too early to tell. C Dub: No for sure. I completely agree. But I just wanted to see where your head Roc: Yeah. C Dub: was at. Roc: So we will catch you guys on the flip side of this game and recap it. Peace. C Dub: Yes, sir. Alright, and we're back. It may look a little different if you're on the video, but we made a substitution. Call into the bullpen. Rock has an early day tomorrow. I didn't know if he was gonna make it. He didn't make it. But we got something better, a Bills fan. That was quite something. I'm pl that I'm still speechless over it. That was a crazy overtime. I thought we might get something like the Giants, and I was waiting for it. But Bills 37, Aaron: It either mm-hmm. C Dub: Rams 34, and an overtime thriller. And let me start this off. I had no idea Josh was 0-7 in overtimes before this game. Aaron: I was fully ready to come on here. not even before they got the ball, not before Cook fumbled before Cook fumbled, the second they walked down the field. I said, I've seen this before. Allen has never won an overtime game in the NFL. And I and I literally said, the second the they returned the kick, it his zero's on the clock. I turned to my dad, I All yes, PN, show the stat. Get it out of the way. Just show the stat. He's never won in overtime. And it was funny, they never showed it. Which I was shocked because every other time he they've been in overtime, they can't show it fast enough. So I don't know if ESPN was just did they? There was there there was so much pacing going on. Was that before the game ended? Did they show it? C Dub: They showed it. I think he might have missed it. They showed it. They showed it. He's 0-7. They showed. Trust me. I I caught I clocked it. I believe it from you. Yeah, it was before the game ended. They showed he's 0-7. you probably were covering your eyes at some of those points. But we'll start we'll talk about Aaron: I there was there was pacing, there was yelling. C Dub: the overtime, but what were your thoughts from the the game? Aaron: So I thought it was very funny that the world was very excited for tonight's game. Obviously outside of Bills and Rams fans, I think people were excited to see Alan and Stafford. Two years ago, we got one of the games of the year when Alan had six touchdowns and still lost. And I actually said before the game, I go, What if this game is just like twenty seventeen? And it just like kind of lets it down and it was trending in that direction. And and C Dub: sh it sure was. Trust me, I was Aaron: but it was funny. When halftime hit, I said, this fourth quarter will blow it up. It just it gave me those vibes that it was so low scoring, offensive offenses not making like critical mistakes, but making enough mistakes to hurt them. Like the Bills did it twice where they had to settle for field goals. The Rams on the first drive missed Puka where they had to settle for a field goal that ultimately missed. Like there was like weird missed opportunities. But it I when I went in halftime, I was just like, This is gonna be one of those games where the fourth quarter is just gonna be touchdown, touchdown, touchdown. Like and that's exactly what it was. I think it was six straight possessions where there was touchdown. C Dub: It was. It was like thirty something points in the fourth. It was madness. It was a scramble, and it seemed like no each defense did not have an answer for the for the opposing offense. Aaron: No. Mm-hmm. C Dub: Josh found his legs, something I think he's been lacking, especially in the Patriots Aaron: Big time. C Dub: game. last week. it was one of those games where just in the fourth what worked for the offense for most of the game just was magnified by times five, you know? Aaron: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yep. C Dub: I think I mean D I think this is a a season defining win for the Bills, Aaron: Huge. C Dub: I would say. I mean, especially after how the Patriots played this past weekend. but one thing I wrote down some things here. Josh Allen was six minutes and thirty seconds left. Did you see that? What they said? Aaron: He had like ninety yards at that point or what? Yeah. Yes. Yes. It at one point they showed a graphic. C Dub: No completion over six yards down the field. That was shocking to me. Not really shocking to me, but it it just I bet on some overs for some Bills receivers. Aaron: The gambling podcast. C Dub: I was a little heated. I Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: was a little heated. I I I Aaron: God, I I haven't even pulled up staff yet. C Dub: I keep I keep going down the well of Dalton Kincaid and he keeps failing me. Aaron: Mm, mm-hmm. Mm-mm. C Dub: Which is but I mean, I can't say failing 'cause the Bills won. I mean just failing me is a better, I guess. But Aaron: Yeah. Yep. C Dub: I had a key on Coleman any time. I will I will say that. And that one now felt good. That one felt good. Aaron: is one catch. Yeah. They yeah. Yeah, wow. The stats are kind of ugly. C Dub: The I know, it's it's it's it's wild. You you look at his w like I remember looking at the stats 'cause I was like, my god, none of my overs are gonna hit and it was Josh at at this point in the game that I when I looked, it was Josh had eight completions and four one was the cook Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: and two and the th the rest of the three were what's his name? Frickin' Ty Johnson. Aaron: Ty Johnson. C Dub: I'm like, my god, what is going on here? Aaron: Gotta love that guy. C Dub: No, but I mean it's one of those gritty Bills wins. I mean, Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: grant granted, I think there are some glaring holes. Aaron: my god, glaring. C Dub: That that you see. I mean, C Neg C J Gardner Johnson by himself had a disaster class of I mean, I wanna see the tape on that. It's quite something. And he's the biggest shit talker too. Like Aaron: He he he's the fun he he's the f he's the funniest player in the entire NFL. my god, he's so funny. Like he just can't stop. And Devontae Adams, usually doesn't have much to say. Did you see him catch that first touchdown and immediately go at CJ? Like everyone just hates C Dub: Yeah, I know I loved it. Aaron: him. And I get it because like before he was on the Bills, I hated him too. He's one of those guys, you love C Dub: Yeah, yeah. Aaron: when you're on your team. When he's not, everyone hates him. And I get it. And I don't think he's the biggest hole on defense. They their cornerback situation is it's atrocious. And like I I just kept I just kept saying, is it a scheme problem? Is it a talent problem? And I think it's like perfect mixture of both. Because trust me, what Puka did today was incredible. But also at the same time, I I mean multiple Puka's plays, I I was thinking to myself, I I could do the same thing. He was just I mean, it was literally just a like sometimes a run of 10 yards, stop, find the soft spot in the zone, and just stand there. And it's literally catching the backyard. I know they're a zone defense. And they can't man or they'll get beat even worse. They have to run zone. But like sometimes I'm just like, number 12's the best receiver on the planet. Like, like, some like he would catch the ball with 10 yards. Like, guys, he's he he's the best fucking receiver in the whole league. Like, what like I just don't that like that angers me. When like there's been games, I like I'm trying to think of good examples. like okay, Devontae Adams, was it two weeks ago when he went off for like 100-something yards? C Dub: Yeah, I was that was it was still it was still when Puka wasn't out w Puka still wasn't playing, yeah. Aaron: But Devontae Adams was Yeah. But Devontae Adams felt like he was just killing him. Everybody. But Puka was just like, I was just like, he's out scheming you. Like there's nothing Puka's doing today. I don't know. Does that make sense? Like I'm not, I'm not taking anything away. He was unbelievable in the game. C Dub: Yeah, I mean no, I I get what you're saying. He had some of those textbook puka catches in with in Aaron: Yeah. C Dub: contention, but a lot of it was just he did like a ten yard out and was butt booty naked. Aaron: Like outside of his touchdown catch, where he just where he straight up beat the defender. Like I was just like, g like almost make Puka beat you. Like he he was beating you with his football brain, but like I want him to beat you as a like his talent. Like I that was just driving me nuts of like make him like at least man him up and make him beat you. Like he's I know he's gonna. So like it's counterproductive, but like, my god, I was like, guys. Number twelve's the best in the world at the job he does. Can somebody just be in a ten yard radius of him? But I know it's easier said than done. That's why I'm not in the field. That's C Dub: No, for sure. Aaron: why I'm not coaching and that's why I'm sitting right here talking about it. C Dub: That's what that's why we're podcasting about it. I mean, then we could go into the overtime. I mean, what a back and forth. the cook fumble. I mean, this could be a whole different talk track Aaron: Jesus. C Dub: if that if Meevus k makes that kick and all that. Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: I'm just surprised that I don't know what the what McVeigh was doing. I just feel like it was so easy Aaron: I think C Dub: to get those yards, and then they just kind got too keyed Aaron: Yeah. C Dub: at the end with running and trying to set up a kick for a kicker that Aaron: I think Yeah. C Dub: Did that that already missed one at that l at that distance. It was just it was strange Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: game planning there. I mean, I don't I don't know why you just don't keep going to the Puka Devontae Adams well in that position as a coach. I mean, Aaron: Mm-hmm. Exactly. C Dub: and granted again, I'm not a coach, but it just Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: seemed like it was working. It was like the second Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: the Bill secondary had no response, and then you do a Kyron Williams run up run up the gut on like third and ten, get two yards and then call the day. So I I that that flabbergasted me a little bit. I think the Rams are gonna want that game back. But again, the Bills I mean they did everything they could. You know, laid on me. Aaron: Here's I I got I got a question for ya. Mm-hmm. Question for ya. What was if you could if you could write one word about what went on across the NFL in week five. Or sorry, one sentence. Do you know what do you know where I'm going with this? It's actually two words. I'm going with I'm going with two words. C Dub: No, no, no. I want you to I want you to c can you give me a hint? Aaron: Has to do usually with the end of game. C Dub: clock management. Aaron: Clock management was the story of week five. We were introduced to it w C Dub: Yeah, we talked about it. Aaron: Sunday morning, bright and early, clock management disaster. Kick it through the end zone. And then we C Dub: Yeah. Yeah. Aaron: witnessed one of what was Dan Quinn doing. What an absolute disaster. I know you guys touched on it. C Dub: I we did and I we didn't really talk too much on Dan Quinn where the blame pie goes. I mean Aaron: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. C Dub: my my whole thing was Jane Daniels laying on the ball at the Aaron: Yeah. And you know that C Dub: 'cause I th like in I think there's a world where if he was was savvy enough, he would know what the time was and would have gotten up and clocked it. But again, it's inexcusable on both sides. And it was very strange with listening to press conferences, like some players said, they knew about the time, then Jay and Daniels was like, from the upper level we have to be better kind of throwing shade in some ways. But no, we've seen a lot of bad clock management. And it's again, I think James Cook and Cam Scaddy would kind fall into the I mean, granted, it's one of those I think there's a greater conversation. It's similar, I mean, not to go to a whole different sport that just started their preseason shit, but like it reminds me of the Josh Hart missed layup. Aaron: Yeah. Well, I forgot about that. I forgot about that. Yeah. Mm-hmm. C Dub: You know what saying? Yeah, no, it reminds me of that. It's like one of those moments where a talk track for a guy just completely gets eviscerated because of some Aaron: Mm-hmm. C Dub: other things that the other that the opposing team does management wise, where you escape with a win. And that's all you and Aaron: Mm. C Dub: that's all you can ask for as a team. Aaron: And and it's funny because I I mean I have all these things going through my head as after Cook fumbles, the Rams are driving, Meavis is walking out there of all these absolute negatives I have walking on here. And it's incredible, and I still have plenty of Don't get it twisted, but it's incredible. It's blocked, they go down, Bass kicks a forty five yarder, and instantly they're all gone. But my whole point with the clock management thing was there was so much bad clock management in this game. Like I mean incredible. We we can begin Before halftime. Yes, it worked out. Allen arm punt. Sure. If the Rams would have scored off it, it was a disaster. Luckily, they didn't. You can even then, okay. Allen throws the arm punt. Disaster by the Rams. Sure. Was Puko open there? So if Stafford hits him, it's a touchdown. Yeah. But he didn't. Bad clock management. Like you get what I'm saying? Like, yes, if he hits him, it looks like the best clock management in the world. But he didn't. And you should have been sending your kicker out there or trying to get him closer with the eight seconds left and call a timeout. Let's let's go to the second half. The end of the game was a clock management C Dub: That's I was about to say Aaron: disaster. Now li I do not fault Cook for running at that end zone. You you you you and C Dub: No, you can't. You can't you can't. Aaron: And thank God Aikman kept saying in the broadcast because I had people text me immediately, Cooks Cook's selfish. No, he is not. You have to get in the end zone there. Like there you C Dub: That's how you win a game. Aaron: because say he kneels down and then they try their tush push on third and goal and and don't get it. It happened against Kansas City two years ago in the playoffs. It can get stopped. It doesn't happen often, but it can. And then all of a sudden you're at a fourth and goal and you're thinking, Holy shit, what we we could have got you had to go up seven. But yes, you can chalk it up to a disaster. How about the Rams get the ball back? They go down. snuck under. They could have blown up. They're C Dub: I was about to tell you I was about to I it could have blown up. It could have blown up too. Yeah. Aaron: hiking it with 10 seconds left after they had time to call a timeout, rush up there. I don't know what staffer's doing. Obviously, he was confident they were going to get in, and they did. But if they actually stop Kyron there, there's five seconds left. They use their final timeout, and instantly you're running the last play of the game where you have to get in. C Dub: Yeah. No, no, you're right there. You're you're you're spot on. Aaron: And then and then and then we go to overtime. It's even more of a disaster in overtime. Obviously the cook fumbled, not clock management. Their whole they were good once they got in field goal range, kind of. it was almost like the Rams were watching on TV and they were just like the second they got to that line, they were like content. They were like w we don't want to gain another yard. And I C Dub: Exactly. Aaron: I I know and then I actually think This is the gonna be the least talked about time management. Because like I go back to the Puka thing before half, if it's caught, who cares? I don't then it's not time management. Why the Bills kick there, by the way? No clue. Because the second Alan ran and got that first down, put him in range, I turned to my dad and I said, No matter what, you have to kick this ball and either it goes through and you win or it misses and you tie. You you have the ball in field goal range. There is no world where you can give it back. To Stafford. Like the no one had a timeout. Both teams had used them. So you you at this point, you're kicking a win or kicking a tie. You cannot the there's no world where you can play where you if you miss, you can now lose the game. So when I saw Bass coming out there in second and 10, with I was like, what's happening? Because if he misses, they're getting it back at like the f the 30-yard line. And in and two C Dub: Yeah, they look good. Yeah. Aaron: po two Puka catches later, because Lord knows he couldn't be covered. And Meevus is right back out there to try another 48 yarder. Like I That was kind of a disaster for me because I don't know why you wouldn't run it one or two more times and then you're kicking the same kick with no time left. I mean, like I understand you don't want to play for a tie, but you also a tie's better than a loss, even though it looks hideous. bad clock in this game, and it's kind of all covered up because how the outcome was, but there was so much bad clock in this game that like won't be talked about. C Dub: it was also a lot of penalties that won't be talked about. On both sides. On both sides. Aaron: my god. C Dub: I was waiting for that one where the the Bills backed up on that two point attempt. And that was like a textbook Bills moment where Bass if I sa I just saw written the stars, is does Bass miss this? And does Aaron: I was more confident when Bass kicked the forty five yarder to win the game than I was with the extra point. I was standing there and I was like, This extra point's being missed. It was just the whole world knew Bass was it was a thirty eight yarder. The whole world knew Bass was missing it. C Dub: Did so f it was so funny. but no again, hey, what a game, what a game. Caps off our episode here. if you made it this far, I hope we got to enjoy some Aaron Aaron Bill's talk. Aaron: Rousseau. I we I mean we literally didn't talk about he saved the game and blocked the kick. We were literally about to finish this podcast without talking about quite literally the only play that mattered in the entire game. Is the biggest play of the game. C Dub: True. True. Aaron: shout out landman when I meet us walks out and I'm thinking to myself, I'm coming in to talk about how Allen can't win in overtime and I'm coming in to talk about how Cook's a criminal because he can't hold on the ball. And I'm coming in and talk about how Landman was the best guy on the field for anybody. Not Josh Allen, not Matthew Stafford, not Puka. Landman was the best guy out there today. But like I said, instantly the kick's blocked, you kick the field goal and all of it's kind of forgotten. But I he C Dub: All forgot. Aaron: was he was unstoppable today. C Dub: But that's that's Bills Rose Rams. What a win. Hey Aaron: Incredible. C Dub: Pod, what a time. It's freaking 1215 and we're doing this shit. Thanks for the overtime. I'm not getting any sleep tonight. Alright, Aaron: Not me neither. C Dub: there we go. Alright. Thanks, Swap Nation. We're still workshopping the name. We'll figure it out. Alright, see you guys. Aaron: The dub, thanks for having me on. I appreciate it. C Dub: you're a butt. You're a but Aaron.
