- 5:53[SPEAKER_22]: Well, good afternoon.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_22]: You're one of all what a gorgeous day it is and it's going to be gorgeous all week long.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_22]: This is a great late summer weather.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_22]: We're having I have to send out a warning notice.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_22]: Remember to tell you about that national grid bill a couple weeks ago 1364 dollars far above anything I've ever gotten before.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_22]: And I argued about it and they said, oh, you were double punched and there's something about these new meters.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_22]: So then I get the revised bill.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_22]: It was $605, that's quite a difference, $700 plus dollars.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_22]: And then I get a phone call from the owner of a local restaurant.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, I'll say it.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_22]: It's Pete's.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_22]: He got a $1200 bump in his most recent grid bill.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_22]: So I don't know if they're up to something, but be careful.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_22]: Be careful with those bills out there.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_22]: And all of that, and we've got
- 6:39[SPEAKER_22]: Shane Garibrand here to Garibrand, how are you?
- 6:42[SPEAKER_07]: Good, thanks for having me, Mayor Graham.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_22]: Good, good.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_22]: You're the fourth of our interviews to kick off the fall of Council campaign.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_22]: You check your grid bills every month.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_07]: I do.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_07]: I just got the new meter, I think last month, and my bill was normal after so no double punch for me.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, I don't know that went from it was five seventy seven on August 1st, November the 1360, but then they really say it was six or five.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_22]: So how do you know, you're an engineer, I don't know.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_22]: I'm not trying to point you on the spot for the sins of our utility, but holy cow, that's scary.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, well, the council race, we really haven't seen, and I'm sure you agree this.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_22]: This whole format of the primary in June, and then
- 7:27[SPEAKER_22]: You go two and a half months of nothingness, kind of tough.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it's the structure of it.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_07]: It makes it for a really long, can't mean, I mean, I started collecting petitions, you know, into February of the snowing.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_07]: And then, you know, the primary, it's in June.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_07]: And now we go all the way to November.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_07]: It's a real haul.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_22]: You're the front runners or you finish first.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_22]: Were you pleased to have you seen your work?
- 7:52[SPEAKER_07]: I was pleased.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_07]: I was pleasantly surprised.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't know what to expect.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_07]: I was kind of a newcomer to the scene.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_07]: I haven't run for anything.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't really have the name recognition.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_07]: I was tough with that number of candidates to know where you stood.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_07]: The only real data I had was that news junkie pole where I was not not for.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_07]: So I was pleasantly surprised.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_07]: But I'm not treating
- 8:19[SPEAKER_07]: between now and November, like, I'm the frontrunner and think I, you know, well, there is the curse of the first where they call it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_22]: I've been warned about that, but there's a couple of people out there, one who listens to the show, Jim, will Brian, Obey, you probably know him.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_07]: Yep, for mine, I don't know him, but I've heard the next year.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_22]: And Helen Sturts, from many years ago, was that first, but in fact, four years ago, it was kind of an upset because of what happened to Michelle Copone, and that led to Mr. Olmy getting on there, that's another
- 8:49[SPEAKER_22]: Did you go to the council meeting last night?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_07]: I watched it.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_22]: I watched it at home, too.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_22]: Some of these numbers, they're briefing on the courtroom renovations, they got rid of the second judge, but it's 8.6, did I hear myself, right?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yep, they said $8.6 million, yeah.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_22]: For what?
- 9:11[SPEAKER_22]: New bathrooms?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_22]: For the judge or what?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, seems like it's pretty large renovation.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, with those, I mean, with the project was first introduced, you know, 15 years ago or so.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_07]: But that is the longer your way, the price just seems to keep going up and up on everything.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_22]: Well, can we afford that?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if we can or not, frankly, it's, you know, with the budget situation with what it is.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_07]: It seems like they intend to bond on it, but I mean, that's for council to decide, I guess.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_22]: That's better than the cost of two pools.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I know.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_22]: I don't know.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_22]: But then, if you're disturbed by numbers, you get the $30 million reservoir, which I don't know if it'll be there.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_22]: Do you think it will be?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_07]: That's, again, I think that was a conservative number that they were throwing out there.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_07]: It doesn't seem like they were saying that whining it still wasn't an option.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_07]: It sounded like, so I'm not exactly sure.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_07]: You know, where that will pan out, but it's a concerning number for sure.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_22]: Okay.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_22]: Do you have any experience with reservoirs?
- 10:19[SPEAKER_07]: No, no.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_22]: Not anything.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_22]: They brought you an engineering school.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_07]: Not a large school.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_07]: Not a large school.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_22]: Okay.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_22]: The other one was the disinfectant byproducts, which nobody knows what the hell they are.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_22]: 64 million dollars, and you know that'll go up.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_22]: Can we afford that?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, they're talking massive rate increases, even if they get a grant.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, well, from what I understood, the rate increases would be if they didn't phase it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_07]: And yeah, they're looking into a grant that could pay for potentially, it sounded like 40% of the project.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_07]: So it looks like they're trying to get funding for that, which would be very beneficial.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_07]: It's hard to say, because we've been in compliance, but it seems like if they're not exactly sure,
- 11:08[SPEAKER_07]: wire in compliance.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_07]: So if we fell out of compliance, they were saying that we'd be subject to some significant daily fines.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_07]: So when you're dealing with water, I mean, you say you drink the water and that will if I drink the water and have my entire life, but you want the residents to have 100% confidence that what they're drinking is safe and clean and all that.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_22]: If it's not safe and clean, I mean, there should have been something stopping people from drinking that stress.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_22]: But they didn't.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_22]: I don't mean to be like, can tanker us or whatever, but how can we just spend that because some regulators at the EPA under one administration said, we're going to change the standards from 200 down to 60, whatever they measure that stuff in.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_22]: Um, doing what we do now, I just don't
- 12:14[SPEAKER_22]: If I don't understand it, I was around the nonsense for 20 years.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_22]: How do you expect the public to understand it?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_07]: Right.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_07]: And it feels like on a federal and state level, the local municipalities are given these unfunded mandates quite often.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_07]: And it's frustrating.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_07]: But at the same time, I guess, as a city government here, between a rock and a hard place there, what do you do, you're either not following.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_07]: federal orders or you know spending a lot of money.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_22]: I know they mentioned last night they talked to the two senators and the two members of Congress from this region and that's great.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_22]: Nobody said they had perhaps contacted director's album's office at the EPA.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_22]: I mean he's new when he wants to do different things than the previous people.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah and seems like he's
- 12:59[SPEAKER_07]: been cutting some of the red tape for like a better term and with some of these environmental requirements.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_07]: So definitely we're at the shot I think before we spend all that money.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_22]: Well, let's get them on the phone here.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, well I was what else came up like?
- 13:15[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, they talk briefly about the cannabis.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_22]: Would you have voted yes on that?
- 13:21[SPEAKER_07]: cannabis was a tough issue.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, it's been decided.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't have a firm stance either way.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_07]: I understood the arguments on both sides, so I... I probably...
- 13:34[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think I would have voted yes.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_07]: I don't see, I agree with the concerns in terms of health and public safety and crime, and I don't see how it truly better is the city.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_07]: But now that the decision's been made, I mean, your hope it brings in the revenue that they're talking about and you're hoping it doesn't have the negative impacts that the the best you're going to get one store in town.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, there's a big up front cross.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_22]: I mean,
- 14:04[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and that, I mean, I agree with him on what he says.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_22]: They're all selling weed.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_07]: Well, if that's the case, then I believe we should be engaging law enforcement on trying to do something about that, because that's, you know, that isn't helping the health of our our city and the health of our city.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, because I saw it on factory street, there's a couple of big signs in an empty building, advertising, the waste station, which is the pot store out in Evans Mills.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_22]: So we're advertising it in the city, but we weren't lying.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_07]: No, and I agree, I mean, it is the same foolish of that you drive out, you know, Bradley Street, and there it is, and I mean, if you're not paying attention, you only realize you've left the city limits, and there's one there.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_22]: They're doing quite well.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_22]: The supervisor out there told me they're getting 60,000 a quarter.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_22]: every three months or 240,000 a year, it's like free money in addition to the normal sales tax and property tax.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_07]: Do you think they're like that having one in the city will actually
- 15:07[SPEAKER_22]: I don't think you should do it because of the revenue, no, because you could say, let's legalize all sorts of things if we get a lot of it.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_07]: And that seems to be the main argument, though, was the revenue.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_07]: So, I mean, the states made their decision on the legality of it.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_07]: And, you know, the cities now made its decision.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_07]: So, you'll find the money thing.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_07]: for everything they dangled money in front of you like you can get a grant that's the big thing right and with with that yeah I question you know you hear these large sums of money but now are we kind of just cutting into the the market we're going to grow new customers from there are we just going to be taking some of the ones that are already buying out in Bradley Street speaking of money I saw a thing on news junky I don't know if they foiled it or what they did but ten police officers take their cars home
- 15:57[SPEAKER_22]: and we don't know who else in the city does.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_22]: That's a lot.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that is this Elijah.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_22]: And plus they're all living outside the city limits.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_22]: And it just seems like a big rush at 430 every day to get out of town in a city car.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_22]: At least a school superintendent who's driving a brand new GMC UConn.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_22]: At least he lives in the city.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_22]: So I mean, I'll give him credit for that.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_22]: But I don't know.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_22]: It's part of a job, you have to learn management, and usually there's cars available if you had to take a trip to Albany or you had to transport a prisoner or something like that.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_22]: So, but to take one home if you live in Adams or Redwood or...
- 16:41[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it's definitely, you know, something as we look into, you know, ways to potentially save money, I mean, that'd be something to definitely investigate.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know how much you would save by applying that, but I agree, it's something definitely to look into.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_22]: Hey, um, I noticed something when I drove here today.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_22]: and it was on the message board in front of the fairgrounds and there's still advertising the August 29th block party downtown and then I got a drop somebody dropped a flyer off here for the upcoming harvest festival in twenty six seven to eight and it doesn't tell where it's being held it is at the fairgrounds details matter little things matter
- 17:30[SPEAKER_22]: Am I being too picky or is it just well?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_22]: Would you, I don't think too many businesses would have a two week old of that advertised out front.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, maybe you're being a little.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_07]: picky little critical, but I think, yeah, I mean, that's definitely there's definitely a room for improvement in terms of the city governments, communication, and that's something that I've kind of I mean, people say transparency, but that's included.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_07]: People want to know what's going on in our community, what the government is up to, and that's one, and having the harvest festival, yeah, the fairgrounds should be good event.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_22]: Now, you know, when I was first mayor, there was no computer in the mayor's office.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_22]: And then we got one.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_22]: And I never really emailed much, but it amazes me.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_22]: Just the amount of emails I'm seeing that get CCed to me.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_22]: It's incredible.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_22]: You prepared for this onslaught of emails.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_07]: I am.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_07]: I've been an engineer.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I'll get, you know, one to two hundred emails a day.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_07]: Sometimes.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_07]: And so it's kind of just the day and age.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, there are days I wish for.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_07]: that I worked in the time where we didn't have emails because it can be a bit of a distraction when you're trying to lock in on one thing, but yeah, I am prepared for that.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, well that's good.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_22]: Hey, your picture is on news, Jackie.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_22]: you're a great and you got the logo in there that's what we care about but uh... yeah you don't get that when you're on the digital desk or something at channel seven you don't get a picture on newsroom you do here so it's an added benefit i'm reading the headlines here
- 19:09[SPEAKER_22]: uh... let voters decide city of water towns form of government this issue came up because uh... mr. Velasquez brought it up uh... he would like to see a referendum on mayoral governance and uh...
- 19:22[SPEAKER_22]: Well, do you think of that?
- 19:23[SPEAKER_22]: I should people decide that or is it best luck for the profession?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_07]: Well, I think best left to the professionals isn't quite the way to frame the argument.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_07]: I do.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_07]: I think if something like that were to be implemented, even a referendum, the...
- 19:41[SPEAKER_07]: call for it should be coming from should come from the people.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_07]: I haven't heard that from city residency yet.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_07]: I've started.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_07]: Now that the topic's been raised, I've started to, you know, unofficially poll some people as I'm going door to door and I haven't found the interest.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, I'm not sure the whole thing is really explained that.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_22]: Well, I mean, I mean people they you could maybe it's national politics But I keep hearing is we don't want a dictator.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_07]: Well, nobody's suggesting it Mussolini's gonna be the next mayor No, but if you switch to strong mayor they do they you're centralizing power.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I know I've done some started a little research census has been raised
- 20:20[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I know the the city of a swigo city of Syracuse.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_07]: They have strong mayors and their mayors, you know, it's I get things done.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_07]: Well, it might be streamlined, but they they do have more power.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_07]: They have line item veto power over over the budget that would be quite a change and and they only vote if there's a tie among city council.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_07]: So it wouldn't be quite the one for one swap either.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_07]: It'd be
- 20:46[SPEAKER_07]: a significant change to our our system of government and a time where we have a lot of other you know standing issues that would be that issue came up concurrently with residency where 11 or 14 department heads yeah across the city line in about four hours yeah and and that's definitely that was disappointing to hear i know
- 21:05[SPEAKER_07]: someone may have brought that one of the departments I believe are an employee brought that up while advocating for the city manager.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think she ended up making the point that she intended on making it was.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_07]: It's disappointing to hear because as a city resident you want the people that work in the city to live in the city and you can't legislate that.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe there's a way we can
- 21:29[SPEAKER_07]: you know try to entice that either whether it's you know well right i mean it's hard day uh city residents either makes lately more in salary than then non city residents if they work for the city and or something like that but you have a lot of pay cuts right now yeah well that's true but it'd be you know in senate at least um yeah i i remember that meeting when they and you were probably in the audience yeah
- 21:53[SPEAKER_22]: they voted on the local law that allowed the city to circumvent the public officers law, which they were in violation of, from the hiring of Mr. Wagoner, and incidentally he's a nice guy.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_22]: You have to qualify every statement by saying, isn't it?
- 22:08[SPEAKER_07]: So I've been told, I haven't even met him personally, but he appears to be.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_22]: Okay.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_22]: Well, we'll say, but anyway, in that meeting, you had department head
- 22:19[SPEAKER_22]: I'm from Redwood and I want you to pass this law.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_22]: I'm from Louis County, which is a holy cow.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, that was a slap in the face to the rest of us.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_22]: We were trying to put up with the nonsense here and pay the taxes and all of that.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_22]: Hey, it bothered me.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_22]: And then when the city manager got the contacts of a public hearing gave us speech on his own behalf,
- 22:40[SPEAKER_22]: But nice guy or not, I thought that was on a line.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_22]: I thought the mayor should have said something.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_07]: Well, if you felt like that was on a line, then frankly, he probably shouldn't have been, he should have been excused from the entire discussion.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if he should have been forced to sit there as people are debating his faith.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_07]: That felt uncomfortable to me being in the audience.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_07]: And yeah, I,
- 23:04[SPEAKER_07]: hearing all those different employees say they live in this town or village and not in the city yeah it was it was definitely eye opening.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_07]: In the case of the city manager though I do
- 23:17[SPEAKER_07]: it was definitely a 50 50 issue.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_07]: It was, it became, I think, a little unnecessarily divisive, um, I think they ended up making the right decision.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_07]: And only because one, right, he's already there.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_07]: He's got tremendous qualifications, but the other thing, if he is a
- 23:39[SPEAKER_07]: Some outside or I know he doesn't live in the city proper, but he lived he's from North country if you were to then you know say you had to live in the city and then he leaves and you had our force to hire a new city manager Odds are you hiring someone from outside the area that would then be moving into the city and is that really better for Well, let's become problematic in recent years and in for
- 24:01[SPEAKER_22]: you don't believe me, look at Ogden's book, they've had a guy from L.A.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_22]: came here and it's snowed and you immediately left.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_22]: Much smaller city, much smaller.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_22]: But I don't know how you handle it because if something happened and you had to fill it again, you're going to have, you can't hire John Crowle again for the time to come down and oversee that
- 24:30[SPEAKER_22]: And yet all of these towns, some of which have significant budgets, like a Lorraine or something, they run themselves.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_22]: And you know, they've all got legal counsel in there.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, I don't know.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_22]: I don't know what the answer is, but I'm inclined to think that if you take the personalities and people out of it, this whole thing with me, and I don't know if it struck you that way, could you?
- 24:53[SPEAKER_22]: This is when Mayor Smith basically got Mr. Wagner in there.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_22]: Why did they all sign a contract saying he was going to move in when I don't think there was any intention of that was having no insight knowledge.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_07]: It was odd and that was it was most likely not handled the way I would have handled it.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_07]: I think you know talking about communication and stuff like that.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_07]: But you know now that once he's in there you're in.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah well they ignored the public officers law and
- 25:26[SPEAKER_22]: I believe that on the attorney, attorneys are there to tell you, hey, there's this law that says you got to do this.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_22]: And, but it was just, it was just like, I just got the feeling it was like, wink, wink, not nod, you know.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_22]: We'll put this in the contract and nobody will pay attention.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_22]: And really, nobody did for going to one.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and then, and even if that's not the case, that's how it appeared.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_07]: So that makes it.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_07]: So it makes it.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_07]: But that was Jeff's.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_22]: You're tight with Jeff Smith.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_07]: That's what I've heard.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, and he and his wife, Millie, have endorsed him.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_07]: Well, and that's a good thing.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_07]: No, I'll take any endorsement, I guess.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_07]: They are, you know, they've been heavily involved in the community.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_07]: But yeah, I've heard that I'm quote unquote his candidate.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_07]: I've, you know, I've met him a few times, but we're not, you know.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_22]: Well, the appointed your dad is planning for it.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_07]: I don't, I think I think that was Mayor Pierce that did that, but yeah, I don't believe those.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_07]: I get the truth in theory.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, but.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_22]: All right.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_22]: Well, you know, listen, I like Jeff Smith, friend of mine.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_22]: I like Millie.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_22]: I vote for Millie for mayor actually, if you were running.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_22]: So, and she pointed out that the school superintendent drives a new UCI, which I
- 26:43[SPEAKER_22]: burdened you with that issue.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_22]: We'll take that up tomorrow.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_22]: Let's take a commercial break what you rest up here.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_22]: We're talking to Shane Garibrand, candidate for City Council.

- 30:07[SPEAKER_16]: W-A-T-N.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_22]: I'm 1240.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_22]: I'm here with Shane Garibrand City Council candidate Mr. Garibrand.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_22]: When you leave right across the parking lot is Mr. Batista's house.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_22]: I'm sure he'd like to hear the answer to this.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_22]: It's readily apparent when you look at these projections on tax increases unless you're willing to vote for them that there would have to be actual cuts.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_22]: Uh, and that means fewer people, I assume, what do you see as the opportunity for cuts?
- 30:35[SPEAKER_07]: I think it's going to be an necessity.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, we've been, you know, near, near, um, double digit tax rate increases the past couple years.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_07]: And we're looking at, if nothing changed, you know, a 25% tax rate increase next year.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_07]: And by, I think, 29, it's a $14 million deficit than the hydro.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_07]: contract would end.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_07]: So it's an necessity.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_07]: We've already hammered our decreasing tax base enough.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_07]: So
- 31:04[SPEAKER_07]: or what?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_22]: To nature.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_22]: VPW.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_07]: I think so, to name a specific cut, it's too difficult from being on the outside looking in.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_07]: How I would like to see a handled is, you know, in a January meeting during new business, either I or just someone on city council, you know, present to the city manager of, hey, we're looking at a 25% tax rate increase.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_07]: This isn't going to be acceptable to us or the community.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_07]: We'd like,
- 31:31[SPEAKER_07]: either in like a march work session to have options presented to us of if we cut this what are we looking at savings what are we looking at an impact in terms of city government and to the community take a proactive approach because it seems like the past few years we get we get hit with this is what it's going to be and then it's down to the council's little the widdle way yeah because the manager comes out with it and then if you cut it you're cutting and it looks bad correct and
- 31:58[SPEAKER_22]: and you're depending on professional management to propose.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, and in the defense of the city manager there, it's when you're talking about cuts, those are somewhat political decisions, which I think he's more or less supposed to avoid.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_07]: So at that point, I would take that pressure off of him of, hey, these are the options that we can pursue.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_07]: Plus the other thing, once you start talking about cuts, these are during these marathon budget work sessions in May that there's multiple of them
- 32:31[SPEAKER_07]: you don't have the time to get the feedback from the community because what I've found is it seems we're aligned on no one wants the tax rate increases at what they're proposed to be but then also where we disagree is in what we think you know should be cut or should be should be kept so that would give counsel time to present this to the community get some feedback more try to build consensus yeah i maybe have guilty of this too different
- 32:58[SPEAKER_22]: personalities involved, but when the budget comes out, I think, April or something.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, usually the end of April.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, you know, everybody acts like, you know, it's a surprise.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_22]: It shouldn't be.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_22]: There should have been either one on one or, you know, just discussions with everybody and a similar their ideas into it.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_22]: I think what you're saying is, is the right thing.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, you know, you're proposing a good thing and get ahead of the curve.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_22]: Because you'll never be able, you know, if he's proposing cutting five police positions.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_22]: That's a lot easier to do when you have to do it.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_07]: Or at least if it's presented of like, these are different options that we have.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_07]: And then it can be the up to the council of the side of, yeah, we want to pursue this avenue versus that.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_07]: I do think, you know, you talk about public safety, I mean, I realize that that's 50% of the budget.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_07]: So it is a substantial amount, but that needs to be, you know, probably.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_07]: That would be the last place I would look, I think with how dire our budget situation is, like everything's got to be on the table eventually, but that would be the absolute last place I would go with public safety.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, I'm looking at New York, you have there's two pictures of you on now.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_07]: Oh wow.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_07]: So they both are both great pictures.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_22]: One is probably an older one, but I had a good photographer.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, there you go.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_22]: Well, I have a different tie.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_22]: It must have been from my spring, but that's something,
- 34:18[SPEAKER_22]: You're obviously making an impression down at NewsJunkie.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_22]: It's tough to get a message out, isn't it?
- 34:23[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_07]: It is.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_07]: You know, as a candidate with dealing with local media, we have very few outlets for it really nowadays to actually get your message out there.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_07]: There's a lot of times it's, you know, Facebook, but you wonder how much of that's getting seen other than by the people that already support you.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_22]: What do you think of that meme page?
- 34:44[SPEAKER_07]: I think it's important, and it's impact, it's overblown by the people that they, they get pretty vicious.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_07]: It can be, and I do think, I don't think there's a place for the personal attacks.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_07]: I think if you're saturizing people's decisions in their job, but some of it, they put a big face on Mrs. Rujero.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's uncold for that mission be done.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_22]: uh... let's see somebody just sent me a thing that uh... w and y anchor life and dc i don't know that must be a drop is down in dc or i think i saw that on facebook for i can and i think he's interviewing uh... mister homin and dc oh my god well he you know big scoop down in the nation's capital there we get to do that stand up in front of the capital looks like that it looks very nice very professional
- 35:37[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, and maybe see the new, uh, the new patio with the rose garden.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I'd heard that they're doing that.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_07]: That was something.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_22]: That was something.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, well, we're going to take another quick break here.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_22]: We'll be back with Shane Garibrand in a moment.

- 39:51[SPEAKER_18]: Donate your car today.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_18]: Did you know you can donate real estate too?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_16]: We just don't say it off and enough.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_16]: Thank you for listening to the station that listens to you.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_16]: The news in talk authority, WATN, AM-1240.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_22]: All right, we're back on the hotline.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_22]: We're Shane Garibrand, Council candidate.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_22]: We were talking about mayoral government, the city would the biggest mayoral government is the city of New York.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_22]: They're electing a mayor this year.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_22]: But it affects everybody in the state because obviously that's about over 40% of the population
- 40:27[SPEAKER_22]: And it's an interesting race.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, do you ever need thoughts on it if you were living in Queens and how would you vote or whatever?
- 40:34[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I'm not at probably.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_07]: informed enough on it to speak on it.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_07]: I do.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_07]: I see the mom Donnie's house name.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_07]: He's he's a bit extreme for for my taste in terms of you know socialism and stuff like that.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_07]: But it is a concern because in New York State seems like whatever New York City does ends up making its way up here to an extent.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_07]: But yeah, I
- 41:01[SPEAKER_22]: of the alternative is Andrew Cuomo right and yeah I don't I don't think there's many fans left either so no no just a few well anyway I won't watch with interest I'll that turns out and see what a fact it does have in New York state of you were fan of our governor bar governor I mean I think I don't know as it's hard
- 41:23[SPEAKER_07]: hard to say, I'm not really to be honest, I think, you know, the spending, I think how she's kind of handled some of the, I mean, I'm kind of the prisons has been a concern I have family that's corrections office, and that's been, you know, from what I've heard about that, not handled very properly.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_22]: But I do agree with her on this school cell phone thing you have plans to cause, I think that's a good policy.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and that, I mean, when I was going to school, that was when, you know, the cell phones kind of started to take off, but that was the policy when I was there.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_07]: Was you didn't have a mind, you know, you had one, you know, kept it in your locker, your backpack.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_22]: I was in school.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_22]: I don't know.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_22]: I think there were rotary dial phones in the office, and that was it.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, I think so at the time, you know, I never, I use these parents say I have to be able to get a hold of my kid any time.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_22]: Do you feel that way about your kids?
- 42:18[SPEAKER_07]: Um, I mean, there are three and one, so I'm okay.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, okay.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_22]: So when they go to school?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_07]: It'd be, we don't plan on, you know, them having cell phones till they're much, much older.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_07]: I understand having like safety concerns of wanting them if there was something that happened to be able to get a hold of them, but I mean you can call them through the office.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_07]: That's how we we did.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_07]: I mean I my mom was the teacher when
- 42:45[SPEAKER_07]: we need to get a hold of her if she was at work we called the main office they transferred it to her room so.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_22]: Okay sounds easy enough apparently it wasn't for some.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_22]: If you want to call on the aspects to get her wearing the question you're welcome 315-755-1240 I know someone was trying to call in and I apologize for not getting right to you but you kind of have to finish a thought here if you want to do anything.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_22]: Anything as far as there's some argument now over homelessness.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_22]: It's through Somail offered to let you use his field maker building a main avenue.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_22]: That got a big rebuff from City Hall.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_22]: There's that acrimony going on all the time.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_22]: And back and forth and you know, the 6,000 emails and all of that stuff.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_22]: Do you think that's being overdone and we hear it too often?
- 43:38[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, about which, about the 6,000 emails and the share.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_07]: I think the public is, you know, ready to move on from that.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I'd like to see, you know, new business.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_07]: The focus on actual new business, not, you know, why didn't we...
- 43:55[SPEAKER_07]: Why didn't we bond for the golf course?
- 43:57[SPEAKER_07]: Why didn't the helmet, some of that stuff?
- 44:01[SPEAKER_07]: In terms of homelessness, that is a serious issue.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_07]: That's like the issue I've heard most about during going door to door, since the primary, it's relatively new to the area.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_07]: It's a nationwide issue, but it's really impactful to our community.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_07]: And so I think it's something that it needs to be addressed.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_07]: task force of some sort of city officials, county officials, state officials, put them in a room with law enforcement, non-profit organization, see what a root cause is, what are stuff that can be done.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_07]: And then also, I know it's been focused on public square.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_07]: We've invested a lot in our public square.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_07]: We're going to get to where it is now.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_07]: One thing I'd like to see, my grandfather was a city police officer
- 44:53[SPEAKER_07]: back in his day, part of his patrol was used on foot patrol at the American corner.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_07]: I'd like to see, you know, can we have, can we spare to have a city police officer, you know, on foot on the square, even if it's just during peak hours, 11 to 1 by five.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_22]: A cop on the American corner, that's like only old people remember that.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_07]: Well, I grew up here and about it, so it's interesting.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_22]: That's an interesting proposal.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_07]: I think it would make people feel, you know, safe when they're down there and my deter,
- 45:23[SPEAKER_07]: Some of the crime, I mean, it might also, you know, they're talking about the, you know, parking meters as a way of making sure people don't stay in a spot for hours on end.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_07]: That might give something, people something to think about if they realize something there that might notice it, I think could do a lot for the community in terms of just putting people's mind at ease and making sure they feel comfortable going to the square.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_22]: Now, if you're on the American corner, you look straight across at locking our plasma, which is two plus million dollar court street renovation, which in many ways looks nice, but there's two issues where that one is, that fountain is a joke.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_22]: You could get a better look and nozzle over it, ace hardware, I compared to the nice sculpture we had, which we still have.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_22]: We could put that back and light it, you could design the lighting.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_08]: I'm perfect.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_22]: Would you like to see that something a little more
- 46:11[SPEAKER_22]: I don't know appropriate for the city called water town.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, that is something that I've put much thought into to be honest, but if I get on there, I'll look into it for a while.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_22]: I fix it.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_22]: I don't know.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_22]: The other thing of the backward parking places, nobody uses them.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_22]: And when you say that to the planners, they say, well, I like in park elsewhere, which is true.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_22]: but they don't use them because they don't feel comfortable.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_22]: Why not just switch them back to the normal way?
- 46:33[SPEAKER_07]: No, I agree with you on that.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_07]: I never understood why they did that.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_07]: Our community isn't used to thinking that way as silly as that sounds of like when.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_07]: I'm I'm tried parking there before but you know you throw on your your blinker to turn right and you still have someone coming up right behind you Don't feel like you have enough time to actually back in so I'm I'm I'm agreed with that.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_22]: They should take this call good afternoon around the air You're going to go ahead Good interview.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I wanted to just I got a couple questions for the camera I wanted to ask you Would you if you get a lot get
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: How would you feel about trust as far as the current man knows that with the situation with Mr. Smith called the police and Do you know that's not involved?
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: How would you have handled that situation?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_03]: Would you have given the police your phone through?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_03]: That's my first question.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: My second question would be
- 47:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, what are you going to do for the use of the city?
- 47:37[SPEAKER_03]: What's your ideas for the use in the children?
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: And those are my two questions.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_22]: Thank you very much.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_22]: Easy.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_22]: First question, if you had been sitting there on council, not involved in the controversy, a came in a demand of your cell phones, would you have gone along with that?
- 47:52[SPEAKER_07]: That's tough to say, unless you're in that situation, because I could see where, you know,
- 47:58[SPEAKER_07]: being a citizen you'd like to say no.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_07]: I wouldn't give up my phone because they don't, you know, they didn't have a warrant all that.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_07]: But I think in the moment they catch off guard it.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_22]: Well, that's how they work.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_07]: Right.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_07]: And I, and I, I don't know.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know what I would have done.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_07]: It's hard to know unless you're in that situation.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_22]: Okay.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_22]: And the caller also wanted to know about you.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_22]: That's a pretty broad topic, obviously.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_22]: But what do you think?
- 48:19[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I think for the use, we have quite a bit of recreational programs.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_07]: I feel like for the use.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_07]: I think the biggest thing is getting young families to want to live in the city.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_07]: And so to do that, you're going to want to take care of the homelessness issue, the crime problem.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_07]: You're going to want to make sure that the tax rate increases aren't as high as projected in.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_07]: And to get the young families in.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_07]: I think recreation, I mean, we'll see how that shakes out with the budget.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_07]: But I think they do a pretty good job.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_07]: We've taken, um, made use of it over the summer.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_07]: We brought my daughter to the head swim lessons up at the park.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_07]: And that was a great program.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_07]: And we were actually very happy with it.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_07]: So it's, I think they have enough as it is.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_07]: But it's always something to keep in mind.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, I got another crawl there.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_22]: But after noon around the air.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_22]: Good afternoon around the air.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_03]: I have a question for the gentleman.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: But I didn't do it to make sure that the tax iron raised in all the 25% of the citizens in the city.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, well, ask him.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_22]: Thank you, sir.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_22]: I guess we've addressed that to an extent, but I mean, these are people who are concerned.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, no, that's a major concern.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_07]: Something we can't, you know, we can't price people out of the city.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, as I discussed, you know, we'd want to...
- 49:40[SPEAKER_07]: bring that to the city manager's attention very early on so we can we can look into the best avenues for cuts we also need I think councilman shones been all over this but it's you know we need to look into the number of non-profits you know taking up valuable real state in our city I believe the number I saw from the city budget was 32 percent of
- 50:00[SPEAKER_07]: It's a, it's something possible taxable property is taxable.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_22]: But the city did, right, back of your office, the city bought that building over in Van Duzy, that took property off of that.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's true.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_07]: They didn't, it seems like that's, you know, was in the hopes of decreasing costs from a new DPW facility.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_07]: But yeah, that's true.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_07]: And there's something I think every purchase is going to have to be reviewed.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_22]: And we want to thank Jade Stone Engineering for taking it all building a new life.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I think that is something I should be applauded to do.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_22]: And there should be more applauding of stuff like that people who choose to invest in that.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, they've done a lot of work of turning that building around.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_07]: We have, you know, 30, 30 people that come into the water town and work every day.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_07]: We order lunches and stuff like that.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_07]: It should be applauded.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_07]: Okay.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_07]: I got a company man.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_22]: All right.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_22]: You got a call right here.

- 54:08[SPEAKER_22]: the North country's bells news am twelve forty eighty water okay we're back with Shane Garibrand uh... Mister Garibrand you're a man of the world you saw the coverage of the horrible incident in Charlotte North Carolina a twenty-three-year-old Ukrainian who had moved to this country a woman gets on the uh... train there whatever they have
- 54:33[SPEAKER_22]: sits down, this guy behind him just stands up and puts on a knife right through and actually didn't know what was coming.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_22]: It is unsettling to watch that and you say, well, that's a mentally old person and he probably is, but you know, you look at the rag above and sometimes you see around town and you say, he's could that happen here?
- 54:52[SPEAKER_22]: And I know you're concerned about it, but are the police doing anything?
- 54:57[SPEAKER_07]: I think they are.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_07]: It seems like...
- 55:02[SPEAKER_07]: Well, that's part of it, I think, is you know, the states, some of the judicial reforms that have taken place, have kind of handcuffed the police for lack of a better term.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_07]: But yeah, I think that's something locally we need to see how we can address the greatest extent possible.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_07]: You know, a lot of what I've talked about being proactive, instead of reactive, and, you know, over the summer, some of my research of a
- 55:25[SPEAKER_07]: how can we be proactive?
- 55:26[SPEAKER_07]: I looked at the comprehensive plan that they did like six years ago and to see how we can move forward in a cohesive manner.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_07]: One of the things I talked about is one of the biggest assets to our of our city is our safe walkable neighborhood.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_07]: So if that's something we we've lose along the way then you're losing you know one of your potential greatest assets and biggest things to drive people into the city.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_22]: couple of quick issues there was some fires house fires lately city goes in knocks him down on a pile puts a fence up and leaves him for months like the one on West Main Street couple weeks ago the city manager called in after his trip to dc he didn't know anything about it I mean
- 56:05[SPEAKER_07]: if the house burns down next to you on chestnut street wouldn't you like to see it gone yeah absolutely i mean you'd be talking about blight and you know and all that yeah you'd if you're living next to it you'd want to down as soon as possible i'd i think there's there's probably some you know issues in terms of insurance and in terms of who who's who's all they blame it on a specialist testing yeah um okay there's that type of thing but i do you know have you met the police chief
- 56:35[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, I mean, you're running for counsel.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_22]: You're an adult.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_22]: You got a professional job in a family.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_22]: You never met him.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_07]: No, I've never met him.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_07]: Nope.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_22]: But, I mean, I'm about to fire chief.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_07]: I have met him.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_07]: Yep.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_07]: I met him at one of the meetings.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_22]: Okay, public works.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_07]: I don't believe I met him, no.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_22]: Okay.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_07]: I've been trying to get around, you know, door to door.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_22]: Well, I do a talk show as you know, I haven't seen any of these people.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_22]: I don't, you know,
- 57:05[SPEAKER_22]: You know, we ambush people here.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, you come in if you want to talk about Stop-drop and roll or whatever you want to talk about your department.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_22]: You can But we just don't there's no doubt we're trying to part of anybody in this city and As an observer that really disturbs me.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, I've always been you know when I was mayor obviously I was outspoken, but and I don't
- 57:29[SPEAKER_22]: you know you don't want a city manager who's out grandstanding but on the other hand you want to showcase your department heads and a lot of meet people and nobody knows who these people are yeah and I agree that you know
- 57:40[SPEAKER_07]: The communication could be improved, and that's something, you know, I was hoping to do as part of my, you know, campaign, and if I, if I get elected, got.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_07]: I remember too, like, there was a snow, the first snow storm of the year last year, the, you know, the roads in front of my street weren't allowed for a couple days.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_07]: There's rumors that there was a plow down, and stuff being ever heard anything, and I agree, like those those situations where if there is an issue like that, you just want to, you just want to.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_07]: the truth.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_22]: I mean, I hate to say it.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_22]: I hate to bring it up at horrible accident in the park.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_22]: The lady was killed on the speed bump.
